Mary Ann Randa, 86, Liebenthal, died Friday, September 18, 2020 at HaysMed as a result of COVID-19.

She was born July 8, 1934 in 
Liebenthal, the daughter of Bernard and Mary (Depperschmidt) Herrman.&nbsp; 
She graduated from Schoenchen High School in 1952.&nbsp; On September 30, 
1953 she was united in marriage to Marvin Anthony Randa in Liebenthal, 
and they celebrated 39 years of marriage before he preceded her in death
 on October 2, 1992.&nbsp; For 35 years she was the Community Postal Officer 
at the Liebenthal Post Office.&nbsp; Her memberships included St. Joseph 
Catholic Church in Liebenthal and St. Ann’s Altar Society.&nbsp; She was an 
outgoing and social person who enjoyed going places, visiting with 
people, and learning about her Volga-German heritage.&nbsp; She loved God, 
prayed the rosary, was active in the church, and enjoyed sitting on her 
porch reading a book.&nbsp; Mary Ann also loved her family and looked forward
 to all holidays, especially when she could spend them with her 
children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons; Ronald 
Randa of Hays, Leslie Randa of LaCrosse, and Lyle Randa and wife Amy of 
Wichita, five daughters; Linda Gottschalk and husband Loren of Basehor, 
Doris Scheideman and husband Kent of Haysville, Marilyn Randa of Derby, 
Nadine Foreman and husband Steve of Haysville, and Pamela Winkler and 
husband Robert of Charleston, SC, a daughter-in-law; Barbara Randa of 
Huntsville, AL, two sisters; Elvera Rupp-Mock of Haysville and Alfrieda 
Dinges of Hays, a sister-in-law; Gloria Herrman of LaCrosse, 23 
grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, her special friend; LaVern Meier 
of Wichita, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, her husband Marvin, a son; Gary Randa, two brothers; Wilbert 
and Richard Herrman, and a sister; Firmina Herrman.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church 
in Liebenthal, with Fr. Stephen Dabanka officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow
 in St. Joseph Cemetery, Liebenthal.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 6:00 pm 
until 8:00 on Tuesday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A St. Ann’s
 Altar Society rosary will be at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, at the funeral

Mary Ann Randa

Clifford D. Rein, 85, of Garden City, KS. passed away on September 14, 2020, at High Plains Retirement Village in Lakin, KS.


He was born to Henry and Pauline (Yeager) Rein on a farm near Bazine, 
KS., June 26, 1935.  He attended school in a one-room schoolhouse 
southeast of Bazine.  In 1954, he joined the Army, where he was a 
paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C.  He was part of 
the 376 Field Artillery Battalion.  In 1956, he was honorably discharged
 with the rank of SPC 4.  


On October 10th, 1956, he married Lillyann Suppes at St. Michael’s 
Catholic Church in LaCrosse, KS. They moved to Larned, KS., where Cliff 
worked at a sheet metal company for two years before enrolling in barber
 school in Wichita, KS. in 1958.  After graduating barber school, they 
moved to Garden City, where he went to work for Frank Koksal, at Ace 
High Barber Shop on Fulton Street.  He worked there for many years 
before starting his own business.  On November 16th, 1971, he opened 
“Cliff’s Barber Shop” at the corner of 7th and Laurel.  He worked with 
Danny Reitcheck, for four years, and then he ran the shop on his own for
 44 years.  On August 3rd, 2019, Cliff retired after 61 years of cutting
 hair.


Cliff was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church, the American Legion 
and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  He enjoyed spending time with his 
grandchildren and attending all of their events, taking care of his home
 and lawn, building and fixing things, and discussing family and 
politics with his many loyal customers.


He is survived by his wife, Lilly;  one daughter, Debra (Mike) Olson, 
Lakin, four grandchildren, Caitlin Olson, Kansas City, KS., Mckenzie 
Rein, Columbia, MO., Jacob Rein, Hays, KS., and Zachary Rein of Lakin.  
He is also survived by his sister, JoAnn Schlegel of Pueblo, Co., and 
many nieces and nephews.  


He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Kenneth Rein and 
Dwayne Rein.  One sister, Angleta Lapka, one brother, Gary Rein and 
granddaughter, Maggie Melynn Olson.


Visitation was be at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City, KS. on 
Saturday, September 19th, from 3-8 pm and Sunday, from 12-5 pm. A rosary
 and vigil was held at St. Dominic Parish in Garden City, on Sunday 
at 7 pm.  Funeral Mass was at St. Dominic Parish, Monday at 10:30 
am.&nbsp;


Cliff requested, in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to “Maggie’s
 Mission”, (a scholarship/Christian based community fund, established in
 2012 in memory of his granddaughter, Maggie Olson) or “St. Dominic

Clifford D. Rein

Barbara Kendrick, age 84, of Johnson, Kansas died Monday, September 14, 
2020, at her daughter Lyn’s home in Parker, Colorado.  She was born 
April 30, 1936, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the daughter of Harry and
 Doris (McKelvey) Houf.


Barbara grew up in Colorado Springs and graduated from Palmer High 
School. After completing High School, Barbara attended Colorado 
University from 1955 until 1957. Shortly after, she married the love of 
her life, Ronald Kay Kendrick on June 23, 1957 in Colorado Springs, 
Colorado. He preceded her in death on February 4, 2018 after 61 years of
 marriage. Together, Barbara and Ron raised 5 children in Johnson, 
Kansas. During her time in Johnson, she worked as an EMT and also 
instructed EMT courses for Stanton County. Barbara went back to school 
and obtained her degree in Nursing in 1992, she then practiced as a 
Registered Nurse for Stanton County Hospital. Barbara loved to knit, 
sew, crochet, and make crafts for her family. 


Barbara is survived by her three sons, Mark and wife Amie Kendrick of 
Colby, Kansas, Gary and wife Brenda Kendrick, and Bret and wife Robyn 
Kendrick all of Johnson, Kansas; two daughters, Julie Brincks of 
Johnson, Kansas and Lyn Finnegan and husband Greg of Parker, Colorado; 
sisters, Dodie and husband Frank DeBell of Security, Colorado, Judy 
Kellogg of Sterling, Colorado; 17 grandchildren and 18 
great-grandchildren. 


Barbara is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Harry Houf III; and brother-in-law, Willis Kellogg.

Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Kurt

Barbara Rupp, age 78, of Hays, Kansas 
passed away Thursday, April 2, 2020 in Hays from an extended illness. 
Barb died peacefully at her home with her two daughters. Barb was born 
November 29, 1941 in Oklahoma City to William and Evelyn (Qualls) 
Douglas. Barb graduated from Ellis high school in 1960. Barb&nbsp;married 
Alois W. Rupp on October 22, 1960 in Ellis. Alois&nbsp;preceded her in death 
on March 12, 2016.

Barb had worked at Travenol and at 
Walmart. Barb enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as 
studying genealogy. Barb&nbsp;was a member of St. Mary&nbsp;Church, Ellis.

Survivors include two daughters, Lisa 
(Tony) Workman, Loveland, Colorado&nbsp;and Lora (Todd) Armbruster of Hays; a
 sister, Peggy Schoenberger,&nbsp;Russell, Kansas; five grandchildren, 
Zachariah (Maria) Armbruster, Grand Island, Nebraska, Marguerite (Yan) 
Stastny of Berthoud, Colorado&nbsp;, Shelby Workman of Loveland, Cassandra 
Armbruster and Candra Armbruster both of Hays; and great grandchildren, 
Camdyn Armbruster, Prisayus Kennedy, Draxton VanEpps, and Everleigh 
Whittington all of Hays, Reagan Stastny, Mila Stastny, Brooks Stastny 
and Quinn Stastny all of Berthoud,&nbsp;Dylan Armbruster of Grand Island.&nbsp;

Barbara Rupp

Jean LaVon Hunt passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at the Rooks
 County Health Center in Plainville, Kansas, at the age of 93. She was 
born on October 8, 1926 to William and Myrtle (Sines) Lafferty in Otis, 
Colorado. She grew up in Marion, Nebraska and attended Danbury High 
School where she graduated with the class of 1945.


On August 9, 1945 she married Jesse Hunt. The couple moved to Palco 
in 1970 where she was a homemaker and raised their children. For many 
years she was a member of the Redline Church of God in Palco.


Jean is preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle 
Lafferty; husband, Jesse Hunt; children, James Hunt, Dorothy Lawver, and
 2 infants; siblings, Virgil, Cecil, Kenneth, and Wayne Lafferty, and 
Lois Myers.


She is survived by her children, Jerry (Betty) Hunt of Wichita, KS, 
KayLynn (David) Rogers of Newton, KS, and Jane (Rod) Rudman of Halstead,
 KS; sister, Evelyn Stinnett of McCook; ten grandchildren, nineteen 
great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.


A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, September 21, 2020 at 
the Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, Nebraska at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will 
be on Sunday from 2 P.M. to 8 P.M. at the funeral home in Plainville.

Jean LaVon Hunt

Warren Allen White was born on a small farm in Graham County, Kansas, on April 1, 1926, and died September 15, 2020, in Manhattan, Kansas, at the age of 94. 

 Warren was born to Warren Scott White and Anna Hess White.  He attended schools at Spring Creek Rural School and Hill City High School and was the first in his family to graduate from high school.  He was drafted into service for WWII and left for the Navy immediately after graduating.  He spent 1944 to 1946, in the South Pacific and witnessed the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima.  He was also at Okinawa.  He was very proud of his service. 

 When he returned home, he used the GI Bill to attend Kansas State University graduating in Civil Engineering.  In June 1949, he married Marjorie "Jean" Moore," also of Hill City, and they remained happily married until her death in October 2016.  He worked for the Kansas Highway Department (now called Department of Transportation) building roads across Kansas for 35 years.  He oversaw the last stretch of I-70 to the Colorado state line which was finished in 1970.  

Even though he had the mind of an engineer, his family considered him a modern renaissance man because of his creativity and many fields of interest and expertise.  His hobbies included gardening, stained glass, wood working, genealogy, wine making and hunting.  

Warren had lived in Norton since 1970, and was active in the Norton United Methodist Church and in the community.  He was a Boy Scout leader and a Hunter Safety instructor.  He served many organizations including Rotary, the Norton County Hospital, Thomas D. Morgan Trust, and Masonic Lodge.  He was well known in several counties as a farming and conservation expert.  He and his wife were generous philanthropists including Johnson Cancer Research Center, Norton United Methodist Church and various scholarships.  

Warren was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his sister Virginia Quinn and his brother Emanuel White.  He is survived by two sisters, Norma Brown, of Walton, Indiana, and Annabel Tate, of Kettering, Ohio; his children Eileen Jesse, and husband, Robert, of Overland Park, Kansas; Warren J.  </figure>Warren Allen White was born on a small farm in Graham County, Kansas, on April 1, 1926, and died September 15, 2020, in Manhattan, Kansas, at the age of 94. Warren was born to Warren Scott White and Anna Hess White. He attended schools at Spring Creek Rural School and Hill City High School and was the first in his family to graduate from high school. He was drafted into service for WWII and left for the Navy immediately after graduating. He spent 1944 to 1946, in the South Pacific and witnessed the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima. He was also at Okinawa. He was very proud of his service. When he returned home, he used the GI Bill to attend Kansas State University graduating in Civil Engineering. In June 1949, he married Marjorie "Jean" Moore," also of Hill City, and they remained happily married until her death in October 2016. He worked for the Kansas Highway Department (now called Department of Transportation) building roads across Kansas for 35 years. He oversaw the last stretch of I-70 to the Colorado state line which was finished in 1970. Even though he had the mind of an engineer, his family considered him a modern renaissance man because of his creativity and many fields of interest and expertise. His hobbies included gardening, stained glass, wood working, genealogy, wine making and hunting. Warren had lived in Norton since 1970, and was active in the Norton United Methodist Church and in the community. He was a Boy Scout leader and a Hunter Safety instructor. He served many organizations including Rotary, the Norton County Hospital, Thomas D. Morgan Trust, and Masonic Lodge. He was well known in several counties as a farming and conservation expert. He and his wife were generous philanthropists including Johnson Cancer Research Center, Norton United Methodist Church and various scholarships. Warren was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his sister Virginia Quinn and his brother Emanuel White. He is survived by two sisters, Norma Brown, of Walton, Indiana, and Annabel Tate, of Kettering, Ohio; his children Eileen Jesse, and husband, Robert, of Overland Park, Kansas; Warren J. Warren Allen White

Clayton Allen Mong, age 90, passed away September 17, 2020, at 
Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood, KS. He was born June 26, 1930, 
on the family farm near Ogallah, KS, to John and Barbara (Weaver) Mong.

Clayton was a resident of Great Bend since 1957, coming from Russell 
Springs, KS. He was united in marriage to Pauline Pierce on September 2,
 1951, at her family’s farm near Hill City, KS.

He worked with animals his entire life. From his family farm near 
Ogallah, at Clarance Hanna Farm, Wakeeney Livestock Commission, 
Riverside Cattle Co., and Thies Packing Co., as a farm hand, livestock 
buyer to a truck driver hauling livestock and milk.

Survivors include, a daughter, Barbara Bitnoff of Belpre, KS; a son, 
Clinton Mong and wife Cindy of Kansas, OK; a brother, Charles Mong and 
wife Donna of Wakeeney, KS; a sister, Corlene Mong of Ogallah, KS; ten 
grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren. He was preceded in 
death by his wife, Pauline Mong; a son, Anthony Mong; and five brothers,
 Curtis Mong, Clyde Mong, Clarence Mong, Clifford Mong, and Carroll 
Mong.

Cremation has taken place and burial will be held at a later date. 
Memorials are suggested to Barton County Relay for Life or the Arthritis

Judith Karen Dinkel, age 75, of Hays, Kansas died Monday, September 14, 2020, at the Rooks County Health Center, Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born January 30, 1945, in Colby, Kansas to William and Esther (Yenick) Ryan.&nbsp; She married Laren Dinkel in 1962 at Hays and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2011.

She was a phlebotomist for 25 years working in Colorado and for Quest Labs. in Hays.&nbsp; She grew up in Colby and was a graduate of Colby High School.&nbsp; She lived in Denver for a number of years and retired in 2009.&nbsp; She moved to Plainville in 2012 until moving to Hays this year, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville.&nbsp;

Survivors include her son, Sean Dinkel, Hays, KS; her daughter, Gian Marie Dinkel, Westminster, CO; three sisters, Jan Bainter and husband, Warren, Oberlin, KS; Marj Cheney, Syracuse, KS; Marilyn Ryan, Wichita, KS; several nephews and nieces. &nbsp;

A memorial service will be held at a later date due to the COVID-19 restrictions and&nbsp;inurnment will be at the Colby Cemetery , Colby, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;

George Laverne Noll, 93, passed away on September 16, 2020, at the 
Ellsworth County Medical Center in Ellsworth, KS.&nbsp; George was born at 
the Noll ranch 6 miles southwest of Ransom on December 22, 1926, to Leonard 
and Eva (Daniels) Noll and continued to live there until his death.&nbsp; He 
loved the farm and cattle.

George entered the Navy in 1943 at the age of 17 and served four 
years.&nbsp; He returned home and enrolled at Colorado State College in Fort 
Collins for 2 years of Forestry.&nbsp; Then he transferred to the University 
of Kansas where he received his degree in Geology.&nbsp; He worked for 
different oil companies in Oklahoma where he met his wife, Mary Anna 
Leone in Coalgate.&nbsp; They were married on October 13, 1951. &nbsp;

George enjoyed reading and playing cards with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Anna of Ransom; 4 sons, George Eric 
and his wife, Pam, of Greensburg, Byron Eugene and his wife, Janet, of 
Carmel, Indiana, Kevin Wayne and his wife, Gena, of Jetmore, and Jon Kip
 and his wife, Dara, of Ness City; 8 grandchildren; 10 
great-grandchildren and his best friend and companion, Wrangler, his 
dog.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Kathryn 
Blocksome and Wilma Sims.

A private family graveside service led by Achile Bourquin will be on 
Monday, September 21, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Ransom Cemetery.&nbsp; 
Viewing will be at Fitzgerald Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. 
on Sunday, September 20, 2020.

George Laverne Noll

Althea M. (Colton) Pellant, 87, of Russell Kansas, passed away Thursday morning, September 17, 2020 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell, Kansas.

Althea was born October 1, 1932, to Victor and Florence (Bellows) Colton, in Delphos, Kansas. Althea was united in marriage to John E. Pellant, of Aurora Kansas on December 29, 1951. This union was blessed with five children; Mike, Doug, Sonia, Denise and Mark.

Althea’s early years were spent in Delphos. In 1945 the family moved to a farm in the Lamar neighborhood. Althea went to 7th and 8th grade at the Fairview rural school. She graduated from Miltonvale Rural High School in May of 1951.&nbsp; After her marriage in December, she and John lived in Concordia. Later they moved to Hays where John went to college. After his graduation, he had teaching jobs in Morrowville and Miltonvale, and then in 1961 he accepted a teaching position in Russell. Althea was a devoted wife and homemaker while her children were growing up. After her children were in school, Althea went to work at the Travenol Pharmaceutical Company in Hays, Kansas. Althea was a long time member of the Otterbein Methodist Church in Russell. She enjoyed visiting the residents in the nursing homes and in their own homes and helped them out. She loved taking pictures of family and friends and we always received homemade cards for all occasions. She was always excited to see her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and take pictures. Althea and her four sisters were able to get together often, after their children were grown up. They enjoyed being together to travel, take pictures, and enjoy this great state and others.

Surviving family include: her husband, John, sons, Mike Pellant (Sue) of Eagle, Idaho, Doug Pellant (Michele) of Russell, and Mark Pellant, of Russell, her daughter’s, Sonia Mendenhall (Randy), of Liberal, Kansas and Denise Schultz (Scott), of Russell. 8 grand children, Angela (Pellant) Latham (Rick), Josh Pellant (Jessie), Jake Pellant, Dustin Ehrlich (Katie), Tyler Ehrlich (Jessica), Colton Pellant, Bekki (Mendenhall) Fowler and Scott Mendenhall (Jessie) and 13 great grandchildren and one sister Doris (Colton) Turner (Doyle) and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Victor and Florence Colton, brothers, Carroll, Jim, Lawrence, Max, Ivan, Byron Colton and three sisters, Audrey Scott, Bernita Lippe and Margaret Louthan.&nbsp;

Brenda Marie Duran, 65, of El Reno, Oklahoma, was called to her heavenly home on September 13th, while surrounded by her family, in Amarillo, Texas. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse, Kansas. Interment will follow at La Crosse Cemetery.&nbsp; Arrangements are under the personal care of Lighthouse Funeral and Cremation Services of Amarillo.

Brenda was born in Great Bend, Kansas, on November 11, 1954, to Arlon and Teresa Johnson.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Alice Wagoner

John Arthur Cederberg, 86, passed away September 16, 2020 at the Decatur
 County Hospital in Oberlin, KS. God took another good one home.


John was born the third child to John “Walter” and Edith (Glad) 
Cederberg on a hot day, July 11, 1934 in Oberlin, KS. He went to country
 school near their family farm in Rawlins County. John was very athletic
 and loved most sports. When he started high school, he moved to Oberlin
 and lived with his Aunt Sidna during the week. He loved baseball, 
football and basketball. After graduation, John went to Kansas State 
University. That fall he discovered wrestling and competed on the 
wrestling squad for K-State. He was drafted and entered into the Army in
 the fall of 1954. John proudly served his country and was stationed in 
Germany post-war. He played on several of the army’s ball teams while 
serving. His father needed surgery after two years, so John left the 
military and came home to farm. When he returned home, he was on active 
reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1962. 


John married Barbara Eckhardt in 1958 in Oberlin. To this union, two
 daughters were born, Janet and Cynthia. In 1969 John decided to 
continue his education, first commuting to Colby Community College, and 
then finally returned to Kansas State. John graduated with a bachelor’s 
degree in Agriculture in 1971. They returned to the farm near Herndon 
and John farmed and taught agriculture and industrial arts classes in 
Herndon. In 1975, John was set up on a blind date with Ardythe Slatt by 
his ex-sister-in-law Corky. They dated a couple of years with a weekly 
date for prime rib on Saturday night. They were married in McCook, NE 
July 16,1977, on a blistering hot day. Ardythe and the girls joined the 
family with all five girls in high/middle school. His life was filled 
with women and their many school activities. John retired from teaching 
in 1979 and farmed full time until he retired in 2007, when they moved 
to Oberlin. John enjoyed having his family at home. He looked forward to
 playing pinochle and pitch with family and friends. John was baptized 
on August 19, 1934 and his confirmation was on August 22, 1948. His 
devotion to Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin was great and he came to be
 known as the “Gummi Bear Man” to the grandkids and children at church. 
He always had a package in his pocket for any hungry child. John was 
diagnosed with Parkinson’s about 20 years ago and began the long battle.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Ardythe, daughters, Janet

 Pettera, North Platte, NE; and Renae (Jim) Wolf, Pierre, SD;

 Ruppert, Dana (Chase) Juenemann, Derek (Bethany O’Neal) Ruppert, Chloe 
(Lucas) Brown, Dalton Pettera, Mariah (Taylor Klinitski) Olson, Christa 
(Eric) Trumbull, Jamie Wolf, Megan Ruppert, Cianna Olson;  9 
great-grandchildren: Arlo, Payton, Paycie, Parker, Jayda, Avril, Boston,

John was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, stepson, David

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, September 19, 
2020 at Faith Lutheran Church, Oberlin. The service will be live 
streamed on Pauls Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Burial with military 
honors will follow at Oberlin Cemetery at 11:15 am. Visitation will be 
12-7:00 pm Friday, September 18, 2020 at Pauls Funeral Home, Oberlin.

 </figure>John Arthur Cederberg, 86, passed away September 16, 2020 at the Decatur
 County Hospital in Oberlin, KS. God took another good one home.
John was born the third child to John “Walter” and Edith (Glad) 
Cederberg on a hot day, July 11, 1934 in Oberlin, KS. He went to country
 school near their family farm in Rawlins County. John was very athletic
 and loved most sports. When he started high school, he moved to Oberlin
 and lived with his Aunt Sidna during the week. He loved baseball, 
football and basketball. After graduation, John went to Kansas State 
University. That fall he discovered wrestling and competed on the 
wrestling squad for K-State. He was drafted and entered into the Army in
 the fall of 1954. John proudly served his country and was stationed in 
Germany post-war. He played on several of the army’s ball teams while 
serving. His father needed surgery after two years, so John left the 
military and came home to farm. When he returned home, he was on active 
reserves. He was honorably discharged in 1962. 
John married Barbara Eckhardt in 1958 in Oberlin. To this union, two
 daughters were born, Janet and Cynthia. In 1969 John decided to 
continue his education, first commuting to Colby Community College, and 
then finally returned to Kansas State. John graduated with a bachelor’s 
degree in Agriculture in 1971. They returned to the farm near Herndon 
and John farmed and taught agriculture and industrial arts classes in 
Herndon. In 1975, John was set up on a blind date with Ardythe Slatt by 
his ex-sister-in-law Corky. They dated a couple of years with a weekly 
date for prime rib on Saturday night. They were married in McCook, NE 
July 16,1977, on a blistering hot day. Ardythe and the girls joined the 
family with all five girls in high/middle school. His life was filled 
with women and their many school activities. John retired from teaching 
in 1979 and farmed full time until he retired in 2007, when they moved 
to Oberlin. John enjoyed having his family at home. He looked forward to
 playing pinochle and pitch with family and friends. John was baptized 
on August 19, 1934 and his confirmation was on August 22, 1948. His 
devotion to Faith Lutheran Church in Oberlin was great and he came to be
 known as the “Gummi Bear Man” to the grandkids and children at church. 
He always had a package in his pocket for any hungry child. John was 
diagnosed with Parkinson’s about 20 years ago and began the long battle.

Joseph P. “Joe” Werth, 84, Hays, died Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at Via Christi Village.

He was born January 13, 1936 in Park, 
Kansas, the son Robert and Theresa (Werth) Werth. &nbsp;Joe was a graduate of
 Park High School in the class of 1953. On April 3, 1956 he was united 
in marriage to Agnes Kaiser at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Park, and
 they celebrated 64 years of marriage. &nbsp;He was retired from motel sales 
and operation and enjoyed his farm ground, landscaping, and woodworking,
 making cribs and changing tables for his great grandchildren. &nbsp;His 
memberships included Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Third 
Degree Knights of Columbus Council #6984, and Fourth Degree Knights of 
Columbus Bishop Cunningham Assembly.

Survivors include his wife Agnes, of 
the home in Hays, a son; Stephen Werth and wife Mary of Paola, two 
daughters; Patricia Hafer and husband Roger of League City, TX and 
Jolene Werth of Overland Park, three brothers; Marcellus Werth and wife 
Saundra of Wichita, Marvin Werth of Wichita, and Jerry Werth of Aztec, 
NM, a sister; Irene Flax of Wright, a sister-in-law; Freida Werth of 
Wichita, six grandchildren; Lee Hafer, Justin Hafer, Tyler Werth and

Loretta Marie Tyler, 71, died Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at her home in Dodge City.

She was born June 28, 1949 at Lamar, Colorado, the daughter of 
Herbert and Clara (Sharrock) Schale.&nbsp; On September 7, 1978 she married 
Rev. William “Bill” Tyler at Syracuse, Kansas.&nbsp; She moved to Dodge City 
in 2008, previously living in Cimarron and Tribune.&nbsp; She was a cook at 
Greeley County Long Term Care and worked at the Ampride both in 
Tribune.&nbsp; She helped Bill with his carpentry work as well as being a 
preacher’s wife.&nbsp; She collected dolls and was a dog breeder and enjoyed 
crocheting and quilting.&nbsp; She was known for her homemade cinnamon rolls 
and her sense of humor.

She was a member of the Dodge City Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include: her son, Kenneth Tyler and wife Gwen, Holly, 
Colorado, her daughter, Kim Hensley, Dodge City; 2 step-sons, Arlin 
Tyler and wife Jeannie, Bethany, Oklahoma and Ardee Tyler and wife 
Penny, Arrow Rock, Missouri; a step-daughter, Tova Barnes and husband 
Dale, Syracuse, Kansas; close friend, Henry Brensing, Dodge City; 3 
brothers, Alvin Schale and wife Janie, Amarillo, Texas, Herbert Schale

(Dreiling) Schumacher, age 87, of Victoria, Kansas, died Friday, September 11, 2020, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born June 14,&nbsp;1933, in Victoria, Kansas, to Leo J. and Albina&nbsp; (Jacobs) Dreiling.&nbsp; She married Leland H. Schumacher on November 5, 1962, in Victoria, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 2, 2014.

She was a homemaker, a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis and Daughters of Isabella all of Victoria.&nbsp; She grew up in the Catharine and Victoria area, and was a 1951 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.&nbsp; She made her home in Victoria until moving to St. John’s/Via Christi Village Care Center in 2013.&nbsp; Lillian enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, and traveling on many bus tours across the United States.&nbsp;

Lillian was often recognized for her many charitable efforts in and around the area. She was a recipient of the TMP-Marian 2014 Point of Light award for her commitment to catholic education. Her generosity to health care included Hays Medical Center Foundation, and the opening of the Lillian Schumacher Therapy Center at St. John’s/Via Christi Village Care Center.&nbsp;

Lillian was the last living sibling of ten children. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Leo Francis Dreiling, John G. Dreiling, Thomas Dreiling; twin infant brothers, Virgil John and Frederick Joseph Dreiling; and four sisters, Anita Feltis, Irene Kippes, Shirley Gross, and one infant sister, Lillian Margaret Dreiling. Survivors include numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Basilica of St. Fidelis or TMP-Marian High School in care of the mortuary &nbsp;

Cinch Everette Barta, 2 weeks old, of Colby, KS, died Tuesday, September
 15, 2020. He was born August 26, 2020, in Colby, to Dillon and Ashley 
(Burton) Barta. Cinch was an amazing baby for the time his family had 
with him. He was such a laid-back baby and was the sweetest little boy 
ever. He was loved by all. 


Cinch was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom and Linda Barta; 
great grandfather Grant Schnase and great grandmother Mary Gillming. 


He is survived by his parents; sisters, Brylee and Chevelle Barta;

LeRoy L. Herrman, “Herrman the German," age 87, joined the Lord Tuesday, September 15, 2020, surrounded by his family at Via Christi in Hays, KS.&nbsp; LeRoy started his life on February 21, 1933, where he was born and raised in Liebenthal, KS. His parents were Reinhold and Emma (Wolf) Herrman.

LeRoy graduated from LaCrosse High School, where his love of music excelled. His second, but most important love, was Bernice (Basgall) whom he married on October 15, 1952, in Hays, KS. They were coming up on their 68th wedding anniversary.

After graduation, LeRoy joined the Marine Corp, where he played in the Marine Corp Band.&nbsp; After that, he came back to Hays in 1956, to start Herrman Electric with his favorite helper, “Bernice the Boss”.&nbsp; Around 1967, they started Shady Rest Campground, which eventually began the Camper &amp; RV Center in 1972. They were now selling RVs, doing electrical work, trucking, and harvesting.&nbsp; In 1981, Herrman the German and Bernice the Boss moved north of Interstate and started Great Plains Chrysler Ply-Dodge, along with the Camper and RV Center. LeRoy and Bernice eventually sold the dealership and moved the Camper and RV Center to its current location south of Hays on Old 40 Highway.

While building their business and raising a family, Brenda and Roger, LeRoy was also busy gathering his band, “The Herrmanettes”. The Herrmanettes consisted of LeRoy, his brothers, Artie, Ron and Vernon, son, Roger, nephew, Randy, and many other players over the years. The band played polka, rock, and country music all over Midwest Kansas, venturing into Colorado, for over 40 years. LeRoy met a lot of people during that time and helped them enjoy life to the fullest.

LeRoy and Bernice were very involved with Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church where LeRoy was a member of the 4th Degree Bishop Cunningham Assembly of Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of American Legion Post #173 and V.F.W. Post 9076.&nbsp; LeRoy was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corp and helped establish the local Marine Corp League. He was also a previous Pay Master and Commandant for the local Edwin Schumacher League #740, all of Hays, KS.

When he did not have a ‘gig’ for the weekend, it was camping, boating, and fishing with his family and friends. We will miss you tremendously!

Survivors include his wife, Bernice Herrman of the home; daughter, Brenda Marie Herrman-Morrissey, Hays, KS; son, Roger L. Herrman, Hays, KS; two grandchildren, Jacine Marie Morrissey and Spencer L. A vigil service and Knights of Columbus/Daughters of Isabell rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Friday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.&nbsp; The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus will stand honor guard form 6:30 to 7:00 P.M. Friday.

Leroy L. Herrman

Betty Lou Rundel (Christiansen), 85, was born in Colby, KS September 20,
 1934 and passed away Monday, September 14, 2020 at Swedish Medical 
Center, Denver, CO. Betty married John R. Rundel (Johnny) on April 17, 
1954 in Raton, NM. She was a homemaker, businesswoman and farmer. 


She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Rundel; son Robert (Bob)
 Rundel; her parents, Arley and Rosa (Dotie) Christiansen; brother, Baby
 Christiansen and brother-in-law Skip Runzel.


She is survived by her siblings, Bonnie (Christiansen) Biggs and husband
 Walt, of McDonald, Ken Christiansen and wife Janet, Brewster, Kay 
(Christiansen) Runzel, of St. Francis; children, John A. Rundel and wife
 Zita, of Trenton, NE, daughter-in-law Pam Rundel Arnold, of Farnum, NE,
 Chris Rundel and wife Clarris, of Topeka and Tom and wife Nancy, of 
Levant; grandchildren, James Rundel, Lenay Rundel Marteney and husband 
Justin, Wyatt Rundel, Brady Rundel, Tatym Rundel, Adam Rundel, Case 
Rundel and Colton Rundel; great-grandchildren, Brittan Marteney and

Betty led a busy life full of family, farming, animals and hard work. 
She took great pride in her poultry flock, winning Grand Champion many 
times at the Thomas County Free Fair. As a former 4-H’er, who had the 
Grand Champion Steer during her 4-H years, she instilled a love for 4-H 
and animals in her grandchildren and supported their efforts in raising 
and showing livestock. Many great memories are wrapped around Grandma 
Betty’s campsite during fair week. There were always plenty of snacks, a
 place to nap and water or pop for her grandchildren and their friends. 
She had a love for all animals, dogs, cats, poultry, sheep and cattle. 
Over the years she fed bottle lambs and bucket calves, and adopted 
several dogs and cats from vet clinics and animal shelters. She was well
 known as a “good feeder” of her animals who were all plump and happy.


Betty was also proud of her farm, and in earlier years did most of the 
farming herself after Johnny’s death in 1988. Once her sons and 
grandsons were able to do the farming, she kept a close watch and fixed 
many “field lunches” to keep them well fed. She also worked for Wal-Mart
 as a CSM from 1989 until 2006, even getting a chance to have coffee 
with Wal-Mart founder, Sam Walton.


Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17 from 5-7 pm, at 
Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. A graveside service will be held on Friday, 
September 18 at 11:00 am in Beulah Cemetery, Colby, KS. In lieu of 
flowers memorials are suggested to the Northwest Kansas Animal Shelter, 
Goodland, KS, Thomas County Historical Society or the Prairie Museum of 
Art and History, sent in care of Baalmann Mortuary, PO Box 391, Colby,

Eileen Jesse Roehl was born October 16, 1922, in Salina, Kansas, to Jesse
 R. and Irene (Morgan) Anderson. She transitioned from this life 
September 10, 2020, in Ness City, Kansas. Eileen married Sol Roehl May 
17, 1943, in Clovis, New Mexico. Three children were born to this union: 
 Sol L., Carol, and Jeannie. Eileen spent much of her married life as a 
homemaker. She had many jobs as she stayed home with her children. She 
took in ironing, made potato salad to sell at the local grocery, and 
babysat.


After Sol died in 1973, she took college classes and became a 
computer operator. When she retired from her computer job she began 
babysitting again. She dearly loved each child she cared for and thought
 of each of them as her own grandchild. As Eileen’s health began to 
fail, she moved to an assisted living home in Hutchinson and then to a 
long-term care facility in Ness City where she passed away.


Eileen was preceded in death by her parents: Jesse R. Anderson and 
Irene Marlin; husband; her daughter Carol and Carol’s husband Billy Gunn
 ; her two brothers Duane Anderson and Billy Marlin; She is survived by 
her son Sol “Butch” Roehl and his wife Joyce of Ness City; her daughter 
Jean Gisel of Clinton, Iowa;  eight grandchildren:  Sherry (Fred) 
Humbree, Larry (Tammy) Roehl, Terry Roehl, Shanda (Scott) Studt, Skye 
(Alan) Christiansen, Corie Novak, Ashley (Timothy) Woodward and Justin

Betty F. (Wilkerson) Martindale was born on September 27, 1927, in Martinez, CA and passed from this world on August 20, 2020, in Oklahoma City, OK.

She was the youngest of six children born to Earl Lavanda Wilkerson and Cella Arthesia Wilkerson (Gallagher).

She graduated from Alhambra High School in Martinez in 1945. In August of the same year, she married Arrell Dean Martindale, after his return from the war. They had six children over the next 17 years, traveling wherever the Army sent them. Retiring from the military in 1967, they moved permanently to Dean’s hometown of Phillipsburg, KS, where they lived until 2016 when poor health caused them to relocate.

Betty was a homemaker and her family meant everything to her. She worked part-time at the Mark V motel for 10 years. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She loved music of all kinds, but especially enjoyed the old gospel hymns she was raised on.

She was preceded in death by Dean, her beloved husband of 71 years, her parents and five siblings, her daughter Chris, her grandson Justin, her granddaughter Stephanie, and son-in-law Alancy Price.

She leaves behind 5 children: D.J.(Joe) of Salina, KS, Dean, Jr. and wife Pam of Oklahoma City, Patrick and wife Jean of Oklahoma City, Nicki Price of Shawnee, KS, and Roy and wife Sandra of Oklahoma City, 13 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Gerald Lee Steinle

Gary R. Grandy, 77, passed away September 14, 2020 at his home in Rozel.

He was born October 2, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert Preston and Grace Olive Pfenninger Grandy.

A lifetime area resident, he was a member of the Rozel United 
Methodist Church, where he served on many boards and as a youth leader. 
He was a member of the Rozel Lions Club and the Garfield American 
Legion. He served in the United States Navy, two terms on the 
conservation board, and the Pawnee County Fair Board. Gary was a farmer 
and had many hobbies: he liked making and collecting walking sticks, 
traveling, going to the lake, fishing trips, golfing, and spending time 
with his family and friends.&nbsp;

On November 6, 1966 he married Faye Hagewood at Trousdale, Kansas; she survives.

Survivors include: wife, Faye, Rozel; daughter, Tina (Todd) Hyburg, 
Lebanon, Connecticut; son, Crieg Grandy, Larned; six grandchildren,

 </figure>Gary R. Grandy, 77, passed away September 14, 2020 at his home in Rozel.He was born October 2, 1942 in Kansas City, Missouri to Robert Preston and Grace Olive Pfenninger Grandy.A lifetime area resident, he was a member of the Rozel United 
Methodist Church, where he served on many boards and as a youth leader. 
He was a member of the Rozel Lions Club and the Garfield American 
Legion. He served in the United States Navy, two terms on the 
conservation board, and the Pawnee County Fair Board. Gary was a farmer 
and had many hobbies: he liked making and collecting walking sticks, 
traveling, going to the lake, fishing trips, golfing, and spending time 
with his family and friends.&nbsp;On November 6, 1966 he married Faye Hagewood at Trousdale, Kansas; she survives.Survivors include: wife, Faye, Rozel; daughter, Tina (Todd) Hyburg, 
Lebanon, Connecticut; son, Crieg Grandy, Larned; six grandchildren, 
Kacey Grandy, Rachelle Hyburg, Jacob Hyburg, Kendra Grandy, Cody Hyburg,

Geraldine Marie “Gerri” (Brungardt) Enslinger, 83, passed away on September 11, 2020, in Lenexa, Kansas.

Gerri was born on November 7, 1936, in Victoria, Kansas, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Wellbrock) Brungardt.&nbsp; She was a 1954 graduate of Hays High School.&nbsp; On September 13, 1958, she was united in marriage to Cornelius “Corny” Enslinger in Hays, Kansas, and they were married for 62 years.

Survivors include her husband Cornelius Enslinger of Lenexa, Kansas; a daughter, Gloria Rohr and husband Neil of Morgan Hill, California;&nbsp; three sons, Darrell Enslinger of Olathe, Kansas; Dennis Enslinger and husband Tom Lore of Washington, D.C.; and Dean Enslinger and wife Chelsea of Overland Park, Kansas.&nbsp;

She has 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by five sisters: Doreen Wildeman of Grainfield, Kansas; Mae Suppes of Great Bend, Kansas; Helen Van Quaethem of Kansas City, Missouri; Mary Brungardt and Rose Brungardt, both of Overland Park, Kansas; and her brother Dale Brungardt and wife Thuong of Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Balthasar and Rosa (Frank) Brungardt, and John and Anna (Broekelman) Wellbrock; her parents Joseph and Elizabeth Brungardt; and brother-in-laws John Van Quaethem, Edward Suppes, and Francis Wildeman.

Gerri was a shipping clerk for A.P.S. Warehouse in Great Bend, Kansas. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella for 61 years, St. Patrick Altar Society, and the Central Kansas Thread Benders Quilt Club.
