Lifelong Wallace, Kansas, resident Shirley Rose Bussen, 84, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Shirley was born on April 24, 1936, to Celestine Leiker and Virginia Rumbach in a sod house east of Wallace, KS. She was the fourth of five children; Gloria, Roger, Elizabeth (Betty), and Celestine (Junior). She attended Wallace Grade School and graduated from Wallace County High School in Sharon Springs.&nbsp;

On August 31, 1954, she married Raymond Theodore Bussen and moved to the farm east of Wallace until her death.&nbsp; Together, they raised six children. Thomas (Tom), their natural born, and five adopted, Brian, Rhonda, Julie, Joseph (Joe), and Celeste. &nbsp;

Shirley was very strong in her faith and was an active member of St Peter’s Catholic Church and Alter Society in Wallace and later of Holy Ghost Catholic Church and Alter Society of Sharon Springs.&nbsp; She was especially devoted to Jesus’ Blessed Mother Mary.&nbsp; Many a Rosary was prayed at the Bussen farm for special intentions, family, and friends.&nbsp; Rosaries were especially prayed during bad weather and on family vacations during long car rides.&nbsp;

Shirley’s children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were her greatest blessings.&nbsp; She treasured spending time with each and every one of them making all feel as if they were her favorite.&nbsp; Shirley welcomed everyone to the Bussen farm and at mealtimes the table was set with homecooked food and was surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp; Shirley enjoyed all her nieces and nephews that spent extra time at the farm during summers, harvest, and holidays and welcomed her children’s friends as if they were here own family.&nbsp; Many lived there for extended periods of time.&nbsp; Shirley enjoyed having family reunions and neighborhood gatherings at the farm, creating great feasts of food and making fond, happy memories for many.&nbsp; Everyone left with a full stomach and a warm heart.&nbsp;

Immediate family preceding her in death is her oldest son Tom, sister Gloria Jones, and brother Roger Leiker. &nbsp;

Shirley is survived by her husband Raymond of the farm at Wallace, sister Elizabeth Colson (Leo) of North Platte, NE, brother Junior Leiker (Dolly) of Atwood, KS,&nbsp; Tom’s wife Deanna Bussen of Wallace, son Brian Bussen of Denver, CO, daughter Rhonda and husband Greg Winkler of Haven, KS, daughter Julie Bussen of Baltimore MD, son Joe and wife Suzanne Bussen of Great Bend, KS, and daughter Celeste and husband Mike Rains of Oakley, KS.&nbsp; She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Shirley leaves a legacy as a faith filled woman of God, devoted wife, loving mother, grandma and great grandma. &nbsp; Her arms, kitchen, and home were always open.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:30 AM MT at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs with Father David Michael officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fort Wallace Cemetery, Wallace, Kansas.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2020, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT with a combined Vigil and Parish Rosary to begin at 7:00 PM all at the Church in Sharon Springs.

Shirley Rose (Leiker) Bussen

John P. Cedeno, 60, passed away November 11, 2020, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born June 18, 1960, at Lyons, to Joseph L. &amp; 
Amelia (Aguilera) Cedeno. He married Karen Weathers January 8, 1983 at 
Great Bend. She survives.

Coming from Lyons in 1983, John was a Great Bend resident. He was a 
storage field operator for Oneok Hydrocarbon, LP. He was a member of 
Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He enjoyed 
making license plate art, 4 wheeling, going to swap meets, collecting 
guns, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his 
grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife, Karen Cedeno of the home; a son, Killian
 Cedeno and wife Jessica of Great Bend; a brother, James Cedeno and 
wife, Cathy of Lyons; a sister, Geriann Habiger and husband Virgil of 
Bushton; and two grandchildren, Kyson Cedeno, and Kenley Cedeno. He was 
preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Joseph Cedeno.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Monday, November 16, 
2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Vigil service held at 7:00 p.m., Mass
 of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 17, 
2020, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, with Father Don Bedore 
presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. The family

John P. Cedeno

Linda Kaye Schwarz, 72, of Oakley, died November 8, 2020, in Wichita, 
KS. 

She was born August 26, 1948, in Quinter, KS, to Charles and Ruth 
(Moss) Sidles. Linda moved to Oakley in 1961 and graduated from Oakley 
High School in 1966. On July 13, 1968, she married William “Bill” Schwarz 
in Oakley, Kansas, where they lived their entire life. To this union two
 children were born. Brian on February 21, 1976, and five years and 5 
days later, Bradley, on February 26, 1981. 

One of the most enjoyable 
times in her life next to being a mom and grandmother was fishing at 
Trenton Lake with Bill. Linda and Bill owned and operated Big A Auto 
Parts from 1985-1999 and NAPA auto parts from 1999-2008. Through the 
years of raising her sons, she devoted her life to them and her husband. 
After they sold their Napa store, she began her second career as 
boopkeeper and dessert maker for The Bluff. She also took on many more 
daily tasks at the bluff. One of her most loved roles was being a 
caregiver to her grandchildren in Oakley while their parents worked. 

Linda enjoyed cooking and baking, as she always made an abundance of 
food at family gathering, spending time with her family, and traveling 
to truck and tractor pulls with Bill...especially if kids or grandkids 
were involved. As you can see, the joy of her life was being a grandma 
to her 6 grandchildren. She was always there whenever her family needed 
her because in her heart her family always came first and she lived her 
life for them. 
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Ruth, and sisters Beulah Bloom and Lyla Younkin. 
She is survived by her husband Bill; sons Brian (Lexy) Schwarz of Salina
 (grandchildren Brazyn and Boxtyn), and Bradley (Alisha) Schwarz of 
Oakley (grandchildren Adisyn, William, Jacob and Matthew) and sister 
Nina (Chet) Hayes. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020, at the Oakley 
United Methodist Church. A private family service will take place with 
burial in the Oakley City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the 
Oakley Park Development Project for the splash pad and shade covers at 
Annie Oakley Park or Logan County Senior Living.

Covid-19 claimed the earthly life of 78-year old Dennis Shank of Goodland, KS on November 8, 2020, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas, with his family at his side. Dennis was larger than life and with his life eternal, he has triumphed over death.

Dennis was born to Lee E. and Leola J. (Schwindt) Shank on March 17, 1942, at the Baker Hospital in La Crosse, KS. He attended District 52 in rural Rush County and graduated from Bison High School in 1960. In 1966, Dennis received his BS degree in Business and Economics from Fort Hays State College three days after he met Gaylene Hayden on a blind date. Dennis and Gaylene were united in marriage on June 4, 1967 at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. Their union was blessed with two children, Tiffany and Cade.

For sixteen years Dennis worked as a bookkeeper and corporate accountant at Weilert’s Furniture in Hays, KS, Staab-Bunker Motors in La Crosse, KS, and Frick Construction and Exline, Inc. in Salina, KS. In 1982, Dennis felt the call to be a steward of the land and began farming and ranching in Sherman County, KS. Dennis was most at peace while caring for the land, producing crops, and tending his beloved herd of cattle, including his favorite cow, Gertrude, who still resides at the farm.&nbsp;

In addition to being a member of the Goodland United Methodist Church, Dennis took special pride in serving each of his communities in various ways. He was a member of the La Crosse Jaycees, the International Lions Clubs of Solomon and Goodland, the Solomon Masonic Lodge, and the Isis Shrine of Salina. He enjoyed serving on the Solomon City Council, the board of directors of the Goodland Co-op, the Goodland Regional Medical Center Board, and the Sherman County Soil Conservation Services Board.

Dennis was an avid hunter, enjoying many pursuits of pheasants, deer, and antelope with his treasured friend and hunting buddy Richard Carlson. He was a member of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Richard recalls the special occasion of their hunting trip to Nebraska during which Dennis used his grandfather’s shotgun to shoot a pheasant.

Dennis had a rough exterior with a good heart. He was very generous with others and fond of taking in strays, whether they were animals or strangers. He loved to talk with anyone and everyone, especially about farming. If Gaylene wanted to locate him in a crowd, she merely had to listen for his booming voice talking about agriculture.&nbsp;

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister Katherine.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife of the home, daughter Tiffany (Casey) Musil of Louisburg, KS, son Cade Shank of Wichita, KS, beloved grandchildren Megan Scott of Hays, KS, Hannah Jones of Hays, KS,&nbsp; and Zachary Musil of Louisburg, KS. He is also survived by his brother Duane (Carol) Shank of Stillwater, OK, sister Deanne (John) Ficken of Bison, KS, brother Dale (Lorrie) Shank of Basehor, KS, his favorite Aunt Thelma Fiala of Bison, KS, many nieces and nephews, as well as many extended family and legions of friends.

Visitation will be held at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland, KS from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. MT on Friday, November 13, 2020. Memorial services will be at the Goodland United Methodist Church at 1:00 p.m. MT on Saturday, November 14, 2020 with Pastor Zach Anderson officiating. Dennis Lee Shank

LeRoy D. Hogan, 97, died November 10, 2020, at Brookdale Senior 
Living, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born January 7, 1923, in Rural 
Barton County Kansas, the son of Patrick A. and Wilhelmina D. (Eggers) 
Hogan.&nbsp; LeRoy graduated from Holyrood High School in 1941, where he 
excelled in Football, Basketball, and Track.&nbsp;

LeRoy was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. Mary’s 
Catholic Church, was a board member of the Holyrood CO-OP for over 40

On January 24, 1945, he married Allene Marie Heiken at St. Mary’s 
Catholic Church in Holyrood.&nbsp; They shared 74 years together. She 
preceded him in death on August 27, 2019.

Survivors include; three sons, D.A. Hogan and wife Kim of Tarkio, 
Missouri, David Hogan and wife Barb of Jamestown, North Dakota, and Dan 
Hogan and wife Toni of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, 
Shelly, Tom, Patrick, Collin, Linda, and Sean; and four great 
grandchildren, Ruby, Flint, Rose, Mark and one more on the way.

He was preceded in death by his wife Allene Hogan; three brothers, 
Harold, Marvin, and his twin brother, Leo Hogan; and two sisters, Myrtle
 Rose Hogan and Mary Zajic.

Verlene F. Stoppel, age 89, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at her home in Scott City, Kansas.  She was born on September 12. 1931 in Okeene, Oklahoma, the daughter of Walter and Lydia Karbs Dobrinski.  Verlene was a lifetime resident of Scott City Kansas and  she was a farmer and homemaker.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scott City, Kansas.

On September 14, 1950 she married Duane A. Stoppel in Scott City, Kansas.  He passed away on September 26, 2009 in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors include Two Sons - Mike &amp; Becky Stoppel of Holcomb, Kansas, Dwight &amp; Sheree Stoppel of Olathe, Kansas, One Sister - Virginia Ramsey of Claremore, Oklahoma, Five Grandsons - Chris &amp; Dawn Stoppel of San Antonio, Texas, Kelly &amp; Kendra Stoppel of Scott City, Kansas, Blake Stoppel of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kaleb &amp; Allison Stoppel of Olathe, Kansas, Nick Stoppel of Kansas City, Kansas, Eight Great Grandchildren.

LeRoy George Degenhardt, 87, passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020, 
at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned. LeRoy was born September 
20, 1933, at Loretta, KS, the son of George and Margaret (Meier) 
Degenhardt. He married Marilyn Gleissner June 6, 1955, at Olmitz. She 
survives.

Coming from La Crosse in 1955, LeRoy worked at Sears in deliveries for
 14 years and at Fuller Brush in shipping and receiving for 27 yrs. He 
was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 
Knights of Columbus #862, and the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed polka music 
and fishing. &nbsp;

Survivors include, his wife, Marilyn Degenhardt of the home; five 
sons, Richard Degenhardt of Great Bend; Kenneth Degenhardt and wife 
Cheryl of Garden City, Raymond Degenhardt and wife Cindy, David 
Degenhardt and wife Janet, and Daniel Degenhardt and wife Mary, all of 
Great Bend; a daughter, Darlene Stoss and husband Merlin of Great Bend; 
twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren. He was preceded in 
death by his parents; a sister, Lillian Weber; a brother, Don 
Degenhardt; and an infant brother, Harold Degenhardt.

Rose Mary “Rosie” (Comeau)&nbsp;Karlin, age 91, of Hays, died Monday, November 9, 2020 at her home in Hays.&nbsp; She was born February 11, 1929, in Hays, KS to Alphonse and Ida (Cardinal) Comeau.

Rose Mary married Arthur Charles&nbsp;Karlin&nbsp;in St Joseph’s church on September 7, 1948.&nbsp; They were blessed with three children:&nbsp; Susan, Robert, and Thomas.

Her hobbies included gardening, playing bridge, as well as traveling with her family.&nbsp; She was an outgoing and friendly person who enjoyed visiting with friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose Mary worked as an operator for Southwestern Bell and was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After retirement, she became a Mary Kay consultant, a perfect blend of business and pleasure. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Arthur of Hays, KS; Daughter: Susan Pfannenstiel of Apple Valley, MN; Sons: Robert J.&nbsp;Karlin&nbsp;(Jane) of Sugarland, TX; and Thomas E.&nbsp;Karlin&nbsp;(Lindy) of Lincoln, NE, eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and five sisters.

Ruth Ellen (Sherbert) Annis, age 80, of Oakley, passed away Monday, 
November 9, 2020 with family by her side at her home in Oakley, KS. She 
was born December 28, 1939 at their farmhouse near Broughton in Clay 
County, KS to Akin and Mary (Townsend) Sherbert. She married Maurice 
Arthur Annis on June 18, 1961 in Salina. They have two sons, Thomas and 
Douglas. Ruth was salutatorian of the Clay Center High School 
class of 1957, and she graduated from Asbury Hospital School of Nursing 
in Salina in 1960. She began her career as a Registered Nurse in 
hospitals in Manhattan and Oakley. Later, she and Maurice owned and 
operated the Annis Supermarket in Oakley. She also was a Financial 
Advisor with Waddell &amp; Reed alongside Maurice for many years. Ruth 
was an active member of the Country Chapel, Oakley, and was involved in 
many church and community activities over the years, including the Logan
 County Tree Board. She liked to travel and loved her grandkids and 
enjoyed getting involved with anything that they were doing. She 
was preceded in death by her parents, husband Maurice, brother Dwight 
Sherbert, and half-sisters: Ethel Luthi, Velma Handley, infant twin 
half-sisters, Leona May and Iona Fay Sherbert, half-brother, Melvin 
Sherbert, and nephews: Jeffrey Sherbert, Jason Furrer, Monty Miller, and
 Scott Studebaker. Ruth is survived by her sons: Thomas (Suzy) 
Annis of Oakley, and Douglas (Denise) Annis of Parker, CO, and four

Ruth E. Annis

John Lauren Stanley passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the age 
of 72 in Kansas City, KS with his wife and children by his side. He was
 born November 29, 1947, in Phillips, WI to Norman and Dorothy (Hayes) 
Stanley. John married Linda Kinser on July 27, 1969, in Oberlin KS. 
They had four children, Chad, Chanda, Chaylene, and Christina, eleven 
grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. 
 After graduating high school in 1965, John enlisted in the United 
States Army where he proudly served his country from 1966 to 1968. He 
always took great pride in the time he served and continued to love his 
country each and every day until he died. He remained connected to his 
unit, the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment whom he served with in Vietnam 
from 1966-1967 at the Blackhorse Base Camp. John started working around 
the age of 13 in cafes in Oberlin, but after serving in the US Army, 
John had several different jobs, including Kansas DOT, Western Auto, 
Safeway, Decatur Feed Yard, and then Don’s Supermarket where he spent 
many years that he greatly enjoyed. He then worked as outdoor 
maintenance at the schools, Sappa Valley Youth Ranch, Juvenile Justice 
where he transported youth. His final and probably most loved job was 
as a school bus driver for USD #294 where he often said that he would 
actually pay them to let him drive. He officially retired from that job
 at the age of 62.
 John was the biggest sports fan throughout his entire life. While 
he played football, wrestled, and competed in track in high school, he 
continued to love to play softball with his brothers and sister during 
his younger adult years. He was a fan of all DCHS sports, where he was 
an announcer at wrestling matches and football games. He enjoyed 
playing golf with his family and friends, coached youth ball teams, and 
Legion baseball, and spent many of his summers umpiring both youth and 
adult ball games. 
 John is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, his son, Chad and wife 
Susan, daughters, Chanda Fleckenstein and husband Leonard, Chaylene 
Buzard and husband Andrew, Christina Green and husband Eric, his 11 
grandchildren - Addeson and Ryder Stanley, Emily and Hannah 
Fleckenstein, Mickey Ann and Hunter Kriegh, Haisly Buzard, and Malilah, 
Mason, Madilyn, and Maddix Green, and one great-granddaughter, Amelia 
Scheneman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Dorothy 
Stanley, his brothers, Richard, Dale and Kenneth Stanley, his 
parents-in-law Joseph and Josephine (Von Schuetz) Kinser, brother-in-law
 Timothy Kinser, and sister-in-law Kay (Kinser) Reedy. John loved his 
family deeply and continued to welcome new family members with open arms
 believing that the last one was just as precious as the first. He had a
 great love for his friends, his community, and his country.

 </figure>John Lauren Stanley passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at the age 
of 72 in Kansas City, KS with his wife and children by his side. He was
 born November 29, 1947, in Phillips, WI to Norman and Dorothy (Hayes) 
Stanley. John married Linda Kinser on July 27, 1969, in Oberlin KS. 
They had four children, Chad, Chanda, Chaylene, and Christina, eleven 
grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. 
 After graduating high school in 1965, John enlisted in the United 
States Army where he proudly served his country from 1966 to 1968. He 
always took great pride in the time he served and continued to love his 
country each and every day until he died. He remained connected to his 
unit, the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment whom he served with in Vietnam 
from 1966-1967 at the Blackhorse Base Camp. John started working around 
the age of 13 in cafes in Oberlin, but after serving in the US Army, 
John had several different jobs, including Kansas DOT, Western Auto, 
Safeway, Decatur Feed Yard, and then Don’s Supermarket where he spent 
many years that he greatly enjoyed. He then worked as outdoor 
maintenance at the schools, Sappa Valley Youth Ranch, Juvenile Justice 
where he transported youth. His final and probably most loved job was 
as a school bus driver for USD #294 where he often said that he would 
actually pay them to let him drive. He officially retired from that job
 at the age of 62.
 John was the biggest sports fan throughout his entire life. While 
he played football, wrestled, and competed in track in high school, he 
continued to love to play softball with his brothers and sister during 
his younger adult years. He was a fan of all DCHS sports, where he was 
an announcer at wrestling matches and football games. He enjoyed 
playing golf with his family and friends, coached youth ball teams, and 
Legion baseball, and spent many of his summers umpiring both youth and 
adult ball games. 
 John is survived by his beloved wife, Linda, his son, Chad and wife 
Susan, daughters, Chanda Fleckenstein and husband Leonard, Chaylene 
Buzard and husband Andrew, Christina Green and husband Eric, his 11 
grandchildren - Addeson and Ryder Stanley, Emily and Hannah 
Fleckenstein, Mickey Ann and Hunter Kriegh, Haisly Buzard, and Malilah, 
Mason, Madilyn, and Maddix Green, and one great-granddaughter, Amelia 
Scheneman. He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Dorothy 
Stanley, his brothers, Richard, Dale and Kenneth Stanley, his 
parents-in-law Joseph and Josephine (Von Schuetz) Kinser, brother-in-law
 Timothy Kinser, and sister-in-law Kay (Kinser) Reedy. John loved his 
family deeply and continued to welcome new family members with open arms
 believing that the last one was just as precious as the first. He had a
 great love for his friends, his community, and his country.

Virginia L. (Hammersmith) Rathbun, age 81 formerly of Natoma, Kansas, died Monday, November 9, 2020, at her daughter’s home in McPherson, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born February 13, 1939, in Russell, Kansas to Alfonse and Silverina I. (Quint) Hammersmith.&nbsp; She married James L. Rathbun on July 18, 1964, at Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp; &nbsp;

She worked at the Russell State Bank from 1963 to 1970, then moved to Plainville in 1971 and she worked at the Storm Insurance Agency.&nbsp; In 1976 she moved south of Natoma and she worked for the first National Bank of Natoma for 32 years, and retired in 2010. &nbsp;

Virginia grew up in Gorham and Plainville and was a 1957 graduate of Plainville High School.&nbsp; She and James moved from Natoma, to Via Christi Village Assisted Living Center-Hays in December of 2017.&nbsp;

She a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainville, the Daughters of Isabella in Gorham for over 50 years, and the American Legion Auxiliary in Natoma. &nbsp;

Survivors include her husband, James L. Rathbun, Hays, KS; one son, Jason Rathbun and wife, Dawn, Zurich, KS; two daughters, Beth Fyler and husband, Ron, Olmitz, KS; Joy Hohmann and husband, Scott, McPherson, KS; ten grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one brother, Alfred Hammersmith and wife, Mary, Hays, KS; many cousins and friends.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant brother, Marvin Hammersmith; one sister, Darlene Mattas; and one daughter-in-law, Kristin (Miller) Rathbun.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 13, 2020, at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gorham, Kansas. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Jeff Bell, age 63, passed away Tuesday evening November 10, 2020, at his 
home in rural Gaylord, KS. He was born the son of Roy &amp; Sharon 
(Bose) Bell on December 4, 1956, in Smith Center, KS. He was a farmer.
 He is survived by his father Roy Dean Bell; 2 sisters Luann (Earl)

Clara Louise (Heuertz) Wynkoop, 78, resident of Valley Falls, KS, 
passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in 
Topeka, KS.&nbsp;

Louise was born on September 21, 1942 at home in Valley Falls, KS. 
Daughter of Ben and Clara Heuertz. She has 9 siblings, Benny, Mary, 
John, Phil, Cathy, Margaret, Eddie, Ruth and Carolyn. She went to the 
Catholic school in Valley Falls.

She was an organist and secretary for the Immaculate Conception 
Catholic Church in Valley Falls for many years. She was also a member of
 the Altar Society. She had many jobs throughout her life, she was a 
secretary for the family business CRW Family Trucking, worked at A&amp;W
 Root Beer, the Mop Factory, was a CNA for Jefferson County Home Health 
taking care of people. She was an assistant leader of Blue Birds, as 
well as assisted in leadership roles for multiple cub scouts. Louise 
organized local blood drives in Valley Falls over many years. Her 
hobbies and interests included sewing, quilting and taking care of her 
beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Charles “Butch” Wynkoop Jr.; 6 
children, Chad (Laurel) Wynkoop, Terry Wynkoop, Debbie (Ron) Schrick, 
Kevin (Sharon) Wynkoop, Brad (Tammy) Wynkoop, and Kelli Wynkoop, all of 
Valley Falls; 3 sisters, Margarite Stover of Hays, KS, Carolyn Lewis of 
Topeka, KS and Ruth Remmers of Lawrence; 3 brothers, John J. Heuertz, 
Benny Heuertz and Phil Heuertz all of Valley Falls, KS; &nbsp;31 
grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren with 2 more greats on the way and 
several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Mary Cummings, Cathy Abrams 
and Eddie Heuertz; her parents Ben and Clara Wynkoop and a granddaughter
 MacKenzie Haug.

Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Immaculate

Eldon Lyle Bird, age 93, of Quinter, KS, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2020, at Andbe Home in Norton, KS. He was born in Quinter, KS on June 11, 1927 to Andrew and Mary (Anderson) Bird.&nbsp;

Eldon grew up on the family farm south of Quinter where he worked with his father. He liked to farm, work with cattle, and break horses with his dad and brother. He liked to hunt, fish, garden, visit with friends, and hunt for fossils on the farm. Eldon and his brother discovered a 12-inch fossil and some tail links of what turned out to be the “fish within a fish” that was later donated by Andrew and Mary Bird to the Sternberg Museum. He especially enjoyed “fixing broken stuff.”

Eldon enlisted in the army in 1945, and was called to duty in January of 1946, when he processed through the Denver, CO induction center. He completed basic training at Shephard Field, WA, where he was trained in demolitions and airplane mechanics. He was then sent to Clarke air base in the Philippines, where he worked on B-17’s, B-24’s, and B-29’s, all of which were primary bombers of World War II. Eldon also proudly served with the Quinter American Legion for over 50 years.

After returning home, Eldon went back to his life of farming and raising cattle, ran Bird’s K-T Fina station, worked as a meat cutter, and managed Fink grocery store for several years, eventually buying the store, which he operated for 25 years. He also had his own trucking operation, feed lot calves, and took pride in helping other local farmers. On December 9, 1957, Eldon was united in marriage to Cecelia Schmidt. To this union 2 sons were born, Gregory and Mitchell, by whom he is survived.

Eldon was preceded in death by both parents; brother Roland; and sisters Eva, Reva Lanore, Loreene, and Norma.

Cora Elizabeth “Corlene” (Chancy) Steinle, 85, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Corlene was born August 8, 1935, in Russell.  She was the second of five children born to Earl and Susan (Klein) Chancy.  She grew up and attended schools in Russell until she was fourteen and the family moved to Livermore, California. Later she returned to Kansas and graduated from Ft. Hays State University with a degree in Liberal Arts.

Corlene was united in marriage to LaVern E. Steinle on November 26, 1977 in Great Bend, Kansas.  They made their home in Russell.

Corlene was a devoted wife. Earlier in life she worked as an operator for the Russell Telephone Company.  She was also known for being an Artist, working in paintings, sculptures and ceramics.  She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  She enjoyed all types of art, reading, writing and studying religion.

Corlene’s surviving family include her husband of 42 years, LaVern of the home; daughters, Constance Swan of Dana Point, California and Cynthia Swan of Russell, Kansas; son, Thomas Swan of San Clemente California; step daughters, Holly Betts of Waldo, Kansas, Melissa Leslie of Boring, Oregon and Maribeth Rush of Geneseo, Kansas; step sons, Curtis Steinle of Garden City, Kansas, Kirby Steinle of Russell, Kansas, Martin Steinle of Bunker Hill, Kansas, and Scott Steinle of Bunker Hill, Kansas; sisters, Margaret Dentici of Livermore, California and Marlene Coronado of Mountain Ranch, California; 23 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Corlene was preceded in death by her parents and brother Paul Chancy.

Mildred Mary (Heim) Barnett Green, 93, of Colby, died Saturday, November
 7, 2020, at the Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center, Sedalia, MO. She 
was born January 14, 1927, in Leoville, KS, to John and Margaret Heim. 


Mildred grew up near Dresden, KS and attended a country grade school. 
She attended High School in Leoville, graduating with the class of 1944.
 In 1945 Mildred moved to Colby and worked at St. Thomas Hospital. Later
 she became secretary for Rix Studio and Crawford and Company Insurance 
Adjusters. She also was manager of the Holiday Store, in Colby, for 
eight years. In 1946, Mildred married Vernon Barnett. The couple were 
blessed with Diana and four adopted children, Rick, Gerilyn, Tim and 
Kevin. 

Mildred was very proud of her family. She cared for her 
grandchildren and was quite involved with their activities. Mildred was a
 member of Sacred Heart Church and its Altar Society. She volunteered 
her services to many others in the community and enjoyed every moment 
while doing so. In 2002, Mildred married Gerald Green. 
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Vernon Barnett 
and Gerald Green; daughter, Diana Marie; son Rick; brothers, Fr. 
Cornelius, Julius, Edwin and Alfred and sisters, Leona Zodrow. Lillian 
Heim, Irene Kruse and Berniece Halle. 
Survivors include her sons, Tim (LeiAnn), of Colby and Kevin (Loretta), 
Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Gerilyn Barnett, Cole Camp, MO; six step-
 daughters; one step-son; brother Ray Heim; sister Lorene Reinert and

Cecilia Edwards of Ellis died Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born April 14, 1949, in Hays to Ralph and Barbara (Augustine) Burns.&nbsp; She married Homer Edwards on June 15, 1974, at St. Mary’s Church in Ellis. Cecilia attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Washington Grade School.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecilia loved spending time with her husband and their dog, Sugar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecilia is survived by her husband, Homer of the home and her beloved dog, her sister Mary Ann (Marwan) Nahas of Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph D. Burns and Barbara (Augustine) Burns-Cameron and her brother, Ralph Burns, Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Leroy F. Stecklein, 70, Osawatomie, Kansas, died Sunday, November 8, 2020 at KU Medical Center.

He was born July 23, 1950 in Hays, 
Kansas, the eighth of nine children born to Joseph C. and Catherine 
(Wasinger) Stecklein. Leroy grew up in Hays and graduated from Hays 
High School in 1968. After high school, Leroy was drafted into the 
United States Army and was honorably discharged after three years. Leroy then went into the work force, first for Travenol for a short time
 as a janitor, then into the grocery business. He became the produce 
assistant at Dillon’s in Garden City, Kansas, for eleven years.&nbsp; Then he 
and his family moved to Osawatomie, Kansas to work as the Produce 
Manager for Willard’s IGA and then Moon’s Hometown Market for 30 years.

In his free time, Leroy enjoyed 
gardening and working in his yard. &nbsp;He liked woodworking and even owned 
his own business for a short time. &nbsp;Leroy had a green thumb and arranged
 flowers beautifully. &nbsp;His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July.&nbsp; 
Leroy collected eagles and he loved to laugh.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, brothers: Richard Wasinger, Donald Stecklein, Elmer Stecklein 
and Ronald Stecklein, and sisters: Delores Dreher and Rosie Koerner.

Survivors include children: Scott 
(Brooke) Stecklein of Olathe, KS, Angela (Nick) Hampson of Osawatomie, 
KS, Doug (Dawn) Stecklein of Olathe, KS, and Will (Jennifer) Stecklein

Howard Lee Schmidt, 66, Hays, died Monday, November 9, 2020, at HaysMed.

He was born November 21, 1953, in Hays, 
the son of George J. and Caroline (Dreiling) Schmidt.&nbsp; In 1971, he 
graduated from Hays High School. Howard was a custodian at Fort Hays 
State University and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a 
Denver Broncos fan, loved the mountains, country and western music, 
horses and cowboy stuff. Howard enjoyed trout fishing, flower 
gardening, and learning to cook. He loved his family, was selfless, 
happy, and had a way of making others feel better.

Survivors include two brothers: Ralph 
Schmidt of Pearl City, HI and George Schmidt and wife Kristy of 
McPherson, two sisters: Kathy Quigley of Manhattan and Elizabeth Speer 
and husband Lynden of Clearwater, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Dan Quigley.

Myron H. Kornmeyer, 79, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at his home
 in Wilson, KS. He was born November 10, 1940 in Waldo, KS to Howard 
and Blanche (Hubbard) Kornmeyer. Myron grew up in Waldo and attended 
the Waldo school district. He was united in marriage to Janiece Pejsha 
on October 20, 2000 in Ellsworth, KS.
 Myron spent most of his life as a mechanic. He worked for Lucas 
Motive for 32 years and for the State of Kansas in Ellsworth for 5 
years. Myron was a handyman and could fix anything, but he enjoyed 
fixing old International tractors the most. He could make or find just 
about any part he needed from his scrap iron pile.
 Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janiece of the home, nieces,
 Laura Phillips, Gail Barnes, Diana Worman, and Cindy Carnahan; and 
nephews, Joe Kornmeyer, and John Noel.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Blanche; brother,
 Milton Kornmeyer; sister, Neta Mae Noel; and nephew, Joseph Noel.

Darlene is survived by 4 daughters; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers. She was preceded in death by both parents; 1 sister; and 3 grandchildren.

Darlene Joyce Gerstner

My father, Donald Lee Davison, passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on November 4, 2020, at the age of 86.  He was born to Carl and Pauline (Porter) in Lakin, Kansas, on September 10, 1934, in the middle of a dust storm.  He weighed 2.5 lbs.  He lived the first six months in the bottom dresser drawer.

Don graduated from Lakin High School in May 1956.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and later Alaska.  While living in Alaska, where he became a bush pilot and weather man and he helped discover the jet stream.

On August 10, 1958, Don sobered up and never took a drink of alcohol again.  In 1964, he returned to Lakin and in October he met his future wife, Wanda Hawley, on a blind date.  They were married in April 1965, immediately moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Pauline and Sharon.  In 1968, they moved Lexington, Missouri, and in 1969, they moved to Richmond, Missouri.  In August 1976, we moved to Hill City, Kansas, where dad worked as a maintenance man for Dawson Place and the hospital.  In June 1978, we moved to Lenora, Kansas, where he worked building terraces and dirt work, remodeling houses and restoring cars among many other aid jobs.

In 1987, the family moved to Lake Wales, Florida.  Dad went back to college to become a pastor.  He got a three-month position at a treatment center and it turned into a full-time job.  In April 1992, we moved to Avon Park, Florida, where he worked at South Florida College.  In May 1999, he became an ordained minister.  He worked at Avon Park Correctional Facility for many years.  Following his retirement, they moved back home to Kansas.  In June 2012, they moved to Norton where they lived with their daughter and three grandchildren.  No one was a stranger to my dad.  He has many kids and grandkids he has "adopted" along the way.  Due to his health, he moved into the Andbe Home in April 2020.

Survivors include:  his wife, Wanda Davison, of the Andbe Home in Norton; his daughters, Pauline King, Norton; Sharon (Bill) Avedesian, Avon Park, Florida; five grandchildren, Larry Keith King, Larned, Kansas; James King, Beaumont, Texas; Ricky and Andrew King, Norton; and Anna Avedesian, Avon Park, Florida; one sister, Katherine Miller, Kansas City, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Norma Hawley, Norton; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Lois Stukey Davison, one infant brother, one sister, Velma Kay, two step-sisters, Lois Ann and Edith Ann, and one step-brother, Gordon Dale.

Donald Lee Davison

Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Maxine 
Lucy (Sabatka) Prideaux passed from this life to her life of glory on 
November 8, 2020. She passed away with her husband Bob and sister-in-law 
Agnes Sabatka at her side at Prairie Senior Living in Colby, Kansas. 
Her passing was a result of complications from the novel Coronavirus 19. 
Maxine was born June 9, 1931 in Stratton Nebraska, the youngest child 
and only daughter of Ralph and Lucy (Sramek) Sabatka. She had two older 
brothers, Raymond and Raphael, to greet her when she came home to the 
family farm in northwest Rawlins County. The family farm was part of the
 Czech farming community surrounding St John Nepomucene Catholic Church 
and it was here that Maxine was baptized and received her childhood 
sacraments 
Growing up on the family farm was recalled with fond memories. Her 
social life revolved around events at the parish church and with many 
friends and relatives. She attended the White Lily country school which 
was just a few miles south of her home. There she was instructed under 
the watchful guidance of Miss Margaret and Miss Regina Brown. Maxine 
always spoke with high regard for these two sisters/educators. During 
many of her school years, WWII raged across the seas and many prayers 
were said for her brother Raphael who was involved in the conflict. In 
1945, with the War ending, Maxine began her high school years attending 
Atwood Community High School. She, like other farm kids, lived in an 
apartment during the school week and went home to the farm on the 
weekends. She graduated from high school with the class of 1949. 
It was at a basketball game at Atwood high school that Maxine met a 
young man, from McDonald, KS, she would eventually spend many years 
with. Robert “Bob” Prideaux and Maxine dated a few years. During this 
time Maxine lived with her parents who had moved to Atwood and she 
worked at various jobs in Atwood. Some of these were working as a 
secretary for school superintendent Molly McBride and working at a 
bakery as a sales person. Bob finally asked “the prettiest girl on the 
north divide” to marry him. The couple were married on June 26, 1951 at 
Sacred Heart Church in Atwood. A dance followed at St John’s hall 
northwest of Atwood. They were a couple that was always in love. They 
worked together with love and respect as a team throughout their 
marriage. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary June
 26 2021. 
The young couple made their new home on the Prideaux family farm south 
of McDonald, Ks. On Sept 1,1952, the couple welcomed their first child 
Denise Marie. Robert Randell (Randy) was welcomed on July 27 1953. 
Eventually the young family decided to move to Atwood. On November 25, 
1959, Donna Lee was welcomed into the family and finally baby Roger 
Bryan arrived on January 25,1962. These are the kids who always knew 
Maxine as their dear mother. 
She was active in the Sacred Heart school parents’ association and 
Christian Mother’s Altar Society. Maxine and Bob were members of a 
couple’s study club sponsored by the church for many years. She was a 
member of several weight loss groups and enjoyed the company of the 
other members. She worked for many years in the laundry department for 
the school district. 
Maxine was a humble person who never desired frills or self-attention. 
She never had a bad word about others. She was proud to be a devoted 
wife and mother. Maxine was an impeccable housekeeper and she enjoyed 
gardening, She and Bob loved to go polka dancing. 
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Raymond and Rapheal and son-in-law John Morrell. 
She is survived by her devoted husband Robert “Bob”; daughters, Denise 
Morrell and Donna Prideaux; sons, Randy (Melanie) Prideaux and Roger 
Prideaux; grandsons, Troy (Jessica) Morrell and children Dylan and 
Madelyn, Ryan Morrell and son Matthew; Trevor Morrell, Tyrel Prideaux 
and sons Tucker and Toby, and Logan (Emily) Prideaux and daughters Ellie
 and Elaina; sister-in-law Agnes Sabatka; brother in law Duane (Hazel) 
Prideaux and many nieces and nephews. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020, at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, Atwood, with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00
 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, also at the church with burial in Mt.
 Calvary Cemetery, Atwood. Masks are required at the services. Memorials
 are suggested to the church, Prairie Senior Living Complex or Jayhawk

 </figure>Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Maxine 
Lucy (Sabatka) Prideaux passed from this life to her life of glory on 
November 8, 2020. She passed away with her husband Bob and sister-in-law 
Agnes Sabatka at her side at Prairie Senior Living in Colby, Kansas. 
Her passing was a result of complications from the novel Coronavirus 19. 
Maxine was born June 9, 1931 in Stratton Nebraska, the youngest child
