LeRoy P. Werth

LeRoy P. Werth, age 79, of Hays, Kansas passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020, at Hays Medical Center. He was born December 29, 1940, in rural Ellis County, Kansas to Wendelin William and Brigitta (Dinges) Werth. He graduated from Schoenchen High School in 1958. On May 25, 1962, he married Christina Franz in Germany.

LeRoy was a lifelong farmer in Ellis County. He was a very active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen. He served on the church committee, choir, and a eucharistic minister. He was also a 3rd degree Schoenchen Council Knights of Columbus member. He enjoyed fishing and taking walks with his grandchildren. LeRoy was a US Army veteran as well.

He is survived by his wife, Christina of the home; two sons, LeRoy Werth (Joann) of Hays and Eric Werth of Schoenchen; two daughters, Sonya Peters of Lincoln, Nebraska and Michaela Werth of Phoenix, Arizona; two brothers, Linus Werth of Victoria and Paul Werth of Great Bend; three sisters, Laura Klaus of Hays, Clarice Stoecklein of Ness City and Dorothy Moeder of Hays; 10 grandchildren, Ericka, Ashley, Peyton, Gavin, Michael, Seth, Spencer, Sierra, Jessica and Nathaniel, 10 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Werth, brothers, Ralph and Donald Werth and sisters, Joyce Klaus, LaVera Schuckman and Mary Catherine Barnes.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, December 17, 2020, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Schoenchen. Inurnment with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery.

Memorial visitation will be Wednesday 6 PM - 8 PM and Tuesday 9:30 AM until service time all at the church.

A parish vigil and Knights of Columbus rosary service will be at 7 PM on Wednesday at the church.
