Clara Louise (Heuertz) Wynkoop, 78, resident of Valley Falls, KS, 
passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in 
Topeka, KS.&nbsp;

Louise was born on September 21, 1942 at home in Valley Falls, KS. 
Daughter of Ben and Clara Heuertz. She has 9 siblings, Benny, Mary, 
John, Phil, Cathy, Margaret, Eddie, Ruth and Carolyn. She went to the 
Catholic school in Valley Falls.

She was an organist and secretary for the Immaculate Conception 
Catholic Church in Valley Falls for many years. She was also a member of
 the Altar Society. She had many jobs throughout her life, she was a 
secretary for the family business CRW Family Trucking, worked at A&amp;W
 Root Beer, the Mop Factory, was a CNA for Jefferson County Home Health 
taking care of people. She was an assistant leader of Blue Birds, as 
well as assisted in leadership roles for multiple cub scouts. Louise 
organized local blood drives in Valley Falls over many years. Her 
hobbies and interests included sewing, quilting and taking care of her 
beloved grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Charles “Butch” Wynkoop Jr.; 6 
children, Chad (Laurel) Wynkoop, Terry Wynkoop, Debbie (Ron) Schrick, 
Kevin (Sharon) Wynkoop, Brad (Tammy) Wynkoop, and Kelli Wynkoop, all of 
Valley Falls; 3 sisters, Margarite Stover of Hays, KS, Carolyn Lewis of 
Topeka, KS and Ruth Remmers of Lawrence; 3 brothers, John J. Heuertz, 
Benny Heuertz and Phil Heuertz all of Valley Falls, KS; &nbsp;31 
grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren with 2 more greats on the way and 
several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her siblings Mary Cummings, Cathy Abrams 
and Eddie Heuertz; her parents Ben and Clara Wynkoop and a granddaughter
 MacKenzie Haug.

Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020 at the Immaculate
 Conception Catholic Church. Rosary will be 5:00 p.m. Friday evening, 
November 13, 2020 with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at the 
Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Clara will lie in state beginning 
Thursday afternoon at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the

Clara Louise (Heuertz) Wynkoop

Eldon Lyle Bird, age 93, of Quinter, KS, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2020, at Andbe Home in Norton, KS. He was born in Quinter, KS on June 11, 1927 to Andrew and Mary (Anderson) Bird.&nbsp;

Eldon grew up on the family farm south of Quinter where he worked with his father. He liked to farm, work with cattle, and break horses with his dad and brother. He liked to hunt, fish, garden, visit with friends, and hunt for fossils on the farm. Eldon and his brother discovered a 12-inch fossil and some tail links of what turned out to be the “fish within a fish” that was later donated by Andrew and Mary Bird to the Sternberg Museum. He especially enjoyed “fixing broken stuff.”

Eldon enlisted in the army in 1945, and was called to duty in January of 1946, when he processed through the Denver, CO induction center. He completed basic training at Shephard Field, WA, where he was trained in demolitions and airplane mechanics. He was then sent to Clarke air base in the Philippines, where he worked on B-17’s, B-24’s, and B-29’s, all of which were primary bombers of World War II. Eldon also proudly served with the Quinter American Legion for over 50 years.

After returning home, Eldon went back to his life of farming and raising cattle, ran Bird’s K-T Fina station, worked as a meat cutter, and managed Fink grocery store for several years, eventually buying the store, which he operated for 25 years. He also had his own trucking operation, feed lot calves, and took pride in helping other local farmers. On December 9, 1957, Eldon was united in marriage to Cecelia Schmidt. To this union 2 sons were born, Gregory and Mitchell, by whom he is survived.

Eldon was preceded in death by both parents; brother Roland; and sisters Eva, Reva Lanore, Loreene, and Norma.

Cora Elizabeth “Corlene” (Chancy) Steinle, 85, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Russell Regional Hospital.

Corlene was born August 8, 1935, in Russell.  She was the second of five children born to Earl and Susan (Klein) Chancy.  She grew up and attended schools in Russell until she was fourteen and the family moved to Livermore, California. Later she returned to Kansas and graduated from Ft. Hays State University with a degree in Liberal Arts.

Corlene was united in marriage to LaVern E. Steinle on November 26, 1977 in Great Bend, Kansas.  They made their home in Russell.

Corlene was a devoted wife. Earlier in life she worked as an operator for the Russell Telephone Company.  She was also known for being an Artist, working in paintings, sculptures and ceramics.  She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  She enjoyed all types of art, reading, writing and studying religion.

Corlene’s surviving family include her husband of 42 years, LaVern of the home; daughters, Constance Swan of Dana Point, California and Cynthia Swan of Russell, Kansas; son, Thomas Swan of San Clemente California; step daughters, Holly Betts of Waldo, Kansas, Melissa Leslie of Boring, Oregon and Maribeth Rush of Geneseo, Kansas; step sons, Curtis Steinle of Garden City, Kansas, Kirby Steinle of Russell, Kansas, Martin Steinle of Bunker Hill, Kansas, and Scott Steinle of Bunker Hill, Kansas; sisters, Margaret Dentici of Livermore, California and Marlene Coronado of Mountain Ranch, California; 23 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Corlene was preceded in death by her parents and brother Paul Chancy.

Linda Kaye Schwarz (Sidles)

Mildred Mary (Heim) Barnett Green, 93, of Colby, died Saturday, November
 7, 2020, at the Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center, Sedalia, MO. She 
was born January 14, 1927, in Leoville, KS, to John and Margaret Heim. 


Mildred grew up near Dresden, KS and attended a country grade school. 
She attended High School in Leoville, graduating with the class of 1944.
 In 1945 Mildred moved to Colby and worked at St. Thomas Hospital. Later
 she became secretary for Rix Studio and Crawford and Company Insurance 
Adjusters. She also was manager of the Holiday Store, in Colby, for 
eight years. In 1946, Mildred married Vernon Barnett. The couple were 
blessed with Diana and four adopted children, Rick, Gerilyn, Tim and 
Kevin. 

Mildred was very proud of her family. She cared for her 
grandchildren and was quite involved with their activities. Mildred was a
 member of Sacred Heart Church and its Altar Society. She volunteered 
her services to many others in the community and enjoyed every moment 
while doing so. In 2002, Mildred married Gerald Green. 
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Vernon Barnett 
and Gerald Green; daughter, Diana Marie; son Rick; brothers, Fr. 
Cornelius, Julius, Edwin and Alfred and sisters, Leona Zodrow. Lillian 
Heim, Irene Kruse and Berniece Halle. 
Survivors include her sons, Tim (LeiAnn), of Colby and Kevin (Loretta), 
Colorado Springs, CO; daughter Gerilyn Barnett, Cole Camp, MO; six step-
 daughters; one step-son; brother Ray Heim; sister Lorene Reinert and 
numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. 
Vigil Service is Thursday, November 12, 2020, at 7:00 p.m., at Baalmann 
Mortuary, Colby. Funeral Mass is 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020 at

Cecilia Edwards of Ellis died Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born April 14, 1949, in Hays to Ralph and Barbara (Augustine) Burns.&nbsp; She married Homer Edwards on June 15, 1974, at St. Mary’s Church in Ellis. Cecilia attended St. Mary’s Grade School and Washington Grade School.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecilia loved spending time with her husband and their dog, Sugar.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Cecilia is survived by her husband, Homer of the home and her beloved dog, her sister Mary Ann (Marwan) Nahas of Wichita.&nbsp;&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents Ralph D. Burns and Barbara (Augustine) Burns-Cameron and her brother, Ralph Burns, Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Leroy F. Stecklein, 70, Osawatomie, Kansas, died Sunday, November 8, 2020 at KU Medical Center.

He was born July 23, 1950 in Hays, 
Kansas, the eighth of nine children born to Joseph C. and Catherine 
(Wasinger) Stecklein. Leroy grew up in Hays and graduated from Hays 
High School in 1968. After high school, Leroy was drafted into the 
United States Army and was honorably discharged after three years. Leroy then went into the work force, first for Travenol for a short time
 as a janitor, then into the grocery business. He became the produce 
assistant at Dillon’s in Garden City, Kansas, for eleven years.&nbsp; Then he 
and his family moved to Osawatomie, Kansas to work as the Produce 
Manager for Willard’s IGA and then Moon’s Hometown Market for 30 years.

In his free time, Leroy enjoyed 
gardening and working in his yard. &nbsp;He liked woodworking and even owned 
his own business for a short time. &nbsp;Leroy had a green thumb and arranged
 flowers beautifully. &nbsp;His favorite holiday was the Fourth of July.&nbsp; 
Leroy collected eagles and he loved to laugh.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, brothers: Richard Wasinger, Donald Stecklein, Elmer Stecklein 
and Ronald Stecklein, and sisters: Delores Dreher and Rosie Koerner.

Survivors include children: Scott 
(Brooke) Stecklein of Olathe, KS, Angela (Nick) Hampson of Osawatomie, 
KS, Doug (Dawn) Stecklein of Olathe, KS, and Will (Jennifer) Stecklein 
of Spring Hill, KS, two sisters: Charlene (Dennis) Weigel of Gorham, KS 
and Theresa Gottschalk of Hays, KS, and sister-in-law Linda Stecklein, 
eleven grandchildren, and other family and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
9:00 am on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Catholic Church with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military 
honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in the Kansas 
Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 
8:00 on Thursday and from 8:00 am until 8:45 on Friday, all at Hays 
Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Howard Lee Schmidt, 66, Hays, died Monday, November 9, 2020, at HaysMed.

He was born November 21, 1953, in Hays, 
the son of George J. and Caroline (Dreiling) Schmidt.&nbsp; In 1971, he 
graduated from Hays High School. Howard was a custodian at Fort Hays 
State University and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was a 
Denver Broncos fan, loved the mountains, country and western music, 
horses and cowboy stuff. Howard enjoyed trout fishing, flower 
gardening, and learning to cook. He loved his family, was selfless, 
happy, and had a way of making others feel better.

Survivors include two brothers: Ralph 
Schmidt of Pearl City, HI and George Schmidt and wife Kristy of 
McPherson, two sisters: Kathy Quigley of Manhattan and Elizabeth Speer 
and husband Lynden of Clearwater, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law: Dan Quigley.

Myron H. Kornmeyer, 79, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at his home
 in Wilson, KS. He was born November 10, 1940 in Waldo, KS to Howard 
and Blanche (Hubbard) Kornmeyer. Myron grew up in Waldo and attended 
the Waldo school district. He was united in marriage to Janiece Pejsha 
on October 20, 2000 in Ellsworth, KS.
 Myron spent most of his life as a mechanic. He worked for Lucas 
Motive for 32 years and for the State of Kansas in Ellsworth for 5 
years. Myron was a handyman and could fix anything, but he enjoyed 
fixing old International tractors the most. He could make or find just 
about any part he needed from his scrap iron pile.
 Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janiece of the home, nieces,
 Laura Phillips, Gail Barnes, Diana Worman, and Cindy Carnahan; and 
nephews, Joe Kornmeyer, and John Noel.

Darlene received her GED and continued on to receive her LPN degree from Colby College. She was united in marriage to James Gerstner on June 20, 1959.

Darlene is survived by 4 daughters; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 2 brothers. She was preceded in death by both parents; 1 sister; and 3 grandchildren.

Darlene Joyce Gerstner

My father, Donald Lee Davison, passed away at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas, on November 4, 2020, at the age of 86.  He was born to Carl and Pauline (Porter) in Lakin, Kansas, on September 10, 1934, in the middle of a dust storm.  He weighed 2.5 lbs.  He lived the first six months in the bottom dresser drawer.

Don graduated from Lakin High School in May 1956.  Following his graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and later Alaska.  While living in Alaska, where he became a bush pilot and weather man and he helped discover the jet stream.

On August 10, 1958, Don sobered up and never took a drink of alcohol again.  In 1964, he returned to Lakin and in October he met his future wife, Wanda Hawley, on a blind date.  They were married in April 1965, immediately moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  This union was blessed with two daughters, Pauline and Sharon.  In 1968, they moved Lexington, Missouri, and in 1969, they moved to Richmond, Missouri.  In August 1976, we moved to Hill City, Kansas, where dad worked as a maintenance man for Dawson Place and the hospital.  In June 1978, we moved to Lenora, Kansas, where he worked building terraces and dirt work, remodeling houses and restoring cars among many other aid jobs.

In 1987, the family moved to Lake Wales, Florida.  Dad went back to college to become a pastor.  He got a three-month position at a treatment center and it turned into a full-time job.  In April 1992, we moved to Avon Park, Florida, where he worked at South Florida College.  In May 1999, he became an ordained minister.  He worked at Avon Park Correctional Facility for many years.  Following his retirement, they moved back home to Kansas.  In June 2012, they moved to Norton where they lived with their daughter and three grandchildren.  No one was a stranger to my dad.  He has many kids and grandkids he has "adopted" along the way.  Due to his health, he moved into the Andbe Home in April 2020.

Survivors include:  his wife, Wanda Davison, of the Andbe Home in Norton; his daughters, Pauline King, Norton; Sharon (Bill) Avedesian, Avon Park, Florida; five grandchildren, Larry Keith King, Larned, Kansas; James King, Beaumont, Texas; Ricky and Andrew King, Norton; and Anna Avedesian, Avon Park, Florida; one sister, Katherine Miller, Kansas City, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Norma Hawley, Norton; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Lois Stukey Davison, one infant brother, one sister, Velma Kay, two step-sisters, Lois Ann and Edith Ann, and one step-brother, Gordon Dale.

Our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Maxine 
Lucy (Sabatka) Prideaux passed from this life to her life of glory on 
November 8, 2020. She passed away with her husband Bob and sister-in-law 
Agnes Sabatka at her side at Prairie Senior Living in Colby, Kansas. 
Her passing was a result of complications from the novel Coronavirus 19. 
Maxine was born June 9, 1931 in Stratton Nebraska, the youngest child 
and only daughter of Ralph and Lucy (Sramek) Sabatka. She had two older 
brothers, Raymond and Raphael, to greet her when she came home to the 
family farm in northwest Rawlins County. The family farm was part of the
 Czech farming community surrounding St John Nepomucene Catholic Church 
and it was here that Maxine was baptized and received her childhood 
sacraments 
Growing up on the family farm was recalled with fond memories. Her 
social life revolved around events at the parish church and with many 
friends and relatives. She attended the White Lily country school which 
was just a few miles south of her home. There she was instructed under 
the watchful guidance of Miss Margaret and Miss Regina Brown. Maxine 
always spoke with high regard for these two sisters/educators. During 
many of her school years, WWII raged across the seas and many prayers 
were said for her brother Raphael who was involved in the conflict. In 
1945, with the War ending, Maxine began her high school years attending 
Atwood Community High School. She, like other farm kids, lived in an 
apartment during the school week and went home to the farm on the 
weekends. She graduated from high school with the class of 1949. 
It was at a basketball game at Atwood high school that Maxine met a 
young man, from McDonald, KS, she would eventually spend many years 
with. Robert “Bob” Prideaux and Maxine dated a few years. During this 
time Maxine lived with her parents who had moved to Atwood and she 
worked at various jobs in Atwood. Some of these were working as a 
secretary for school superintendent Molly McBride and working at a 
bakery as a sales person. Bob finally asked “the prettiest girl on the 
north divide” to marry him. The couple were married on June 26, 1951 at 
Sacred Heart Church in Atwood. A dance followed at St John’s hall 
northwest of Atwood. They were a couple that was always in love. They 
worked together with love and respect as a team throughout their 
marriage. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary June
 26 2021. 
The young couple made their new home on the Prideaux family farm south 
of McDonald, Ks. On Sept 1,1952, the couple welcomed their first child 
Denise Marie. Robert Randell (Randy) was welcomed on July 27 1953. 
Eventually the young family decided to move to Atwood. On November 25, 
1959, Donna Lee was welcomed into the family and finally baby Roger 
Bryan arrived on January 25,1962. These are the kids who always knew 
Maxine as their dear mother. 
She was active in the Sacred Heart school parents’ association and 
Christian Mother’s Altar Society. Maxine and Bob were members of a 
couple’s study club sponsored by the church for many years. She was a 
member of several weight loss groups and enjoyed the company of the 
other members. She worked for many years in the laundry department for 
the school district. 
Maxine was a humble person who never desired frills or self-attention. 
She never had a bad word about others. She was proud to be a devoted 
wife and mother. Maxine was an impeccable housekeeper and she enjoyed 
gardening, She and Bob loved to go polka dancing. 
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Raymond and Rapheal and son-in-law John Morrell. 
She is survived by her devoted husband Robert “Bob”; daughters, Denise 
Morrell and Donna Prideaux; sons, Randy (Melanie) Prideaux and Roger 
Prideaux; grandsons, Troy (Jessica) Morrell and children Dylan and 
Madelyn, Ryan Morrell and son Matthew; Trevor Morrell, Tyrel Prideaux 
and sons Tucker and Toby, and Logan (Emily) Prideaux and daughters Ellie
 and Elaina; sister-in-law Agnes Sabatka; brother in law Duane (Hazel) 
Prideaux and many nieces and nephews. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 13, 2020, at Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, Atwood, with a vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00
 a.m. Saturday, November 14, 2020, also at the church with burial in Mt.

Jeff passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point, NE. 
Jeffrie Thomas Fox was born on October 27, 1971, in Hays, KS to Chester 
and Glenda (Watt) Fox. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew 
Catholic Church in Wright, KS. Jeff graduated high school from Dodge 
City High School in Dodge City, KS. He attended Kansas State University
 obtaining a B.S. Degree in Animal Science, became a Doctor of 
Veterinary Medicine, and later obtained his Masters Degree in Feedlot 
Management 
On September 7, 1996, he was united in marriage to Rhonda Hollrah at St.
 Paul’s Lutheran Church in Enid, OK. In October of that year he was

moving to Beemer, NE in 2010. He started and operated Bovine Veterinary
 Management Resources. 
Jeff has always taken an active role in the cattle industry, where he 
served or belonged to many organizations. He was currently a member of 
the Nebraska Cattlemen serving as Committee Chairman for the Animal 
Health and Nutrition Committee. He was a member of American Veterinary 
Consultants(AVC), where he served on the Board of Directors and also 
served on the Beef Cattle Health and Well Being Committee. Jeff went to
 Washington, DC multiple times to represent AVC at the National 
Cattlemen's Beef Association Legislative Forums. Jeff was also a member
 of the Bovine Practitioners. 
Jeff was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Point and had 
formerly served as an Elder at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer. 
He also served as a Board Member at the Indian Trails Country Club,

Jeff passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at Franciscan Healthcare in West Point, NE. 
Jeffrie Thomas Fox was born on October 27, 1971, in Hays, KS to Chester 
and Glenda (Watt) Fox. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Andrew 
Catholic Church in Wright, KS. Jeff graduated high school from Dodge 
City High School in Dodge City, KS. He attended Kansas State University
 obtaining a B.S. Degree in Animal Science, became a Doctor of 
Veterinary Medicine, and later obtained his Masters Degree in Feedlot 
Management 
On September 7, 1996, he was united in marriage to Rhonda Hollrah at St.
 Paul’s Lutheran Church in Enid, OK. In October of that year he was 
confirmed as an adult at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The couple resided
 in Enid, OK, Manhattan, KS, then in Guymon, OK for six years before

Logan resident Ronald K. Lohrmeyer passed away August 29, 2020, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 71.&nbsp; He was born March 2, 1949, in Norton, the son of J.B. &amp; Maurine Lohrmeyer.&nbsp;

Survivors include his brother Gale of Logan; Sisters, Lynne Lohrmeyer of Logan, Billie Jacobs of Hays &amp; Patricia Dusin of Phillipsburg.&nbsp;

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; A private family Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. John Catholic Church, Logan, with Father George Chalbhagam officiating. Jon enjoyed sports, especially the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, KU Jayhawks and fantasy football. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club and Army Veteran.

Max Alwyn 
Porter, 89 years of age, of Alma, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 
2020 at the Harlan County Health System in Alma.&nbsp; Max was born on April 
8, 1931, in home at Albion, Nebraska, the seventh of eight children, 
born to Don and Grace (Wilson) Porter.&nbsp; &nbsp;He attended Albion Public 
Schools and graduated from Albion High School, with the class of 1949.

In 1945, Max 
was in a hunting accident where he suffered the loss of his left thumb 
and 1/3 of the muscle in his left arm. Because of this accident he was 
often asked by children what happened to his thumb, his favorite answers
 were: a bear bit it off or I sucked it too much as a kid; to his 
grandkids he was known as Grandpa no thumb.

In 1951, Max
 married Alice Larson.&nbsp; They were blessed with three children: son, 
Jerre Lee, and daughters: Jeanette Allyson and Jennifer Lynn. The family
 moved to Phillipsburg, Kansas in 1953 and Max worked as an auditor and 
later, material account manager for the Kansas-Nebraska Energy until his
 retirement in 1993. The marriage later ended in divorce.

On May 4, 
1980, Max was united in marriage to Barbara Casper in Las Vegas, Nevada 
at the Chapel of the Bells.&nbsp; The couple made their home in Phillipsburg 
until 2004, when they moved to Alma. Together, the couple enjoyed 
traveling and attending Nebraska football games.

Max loved 
fishing, hunting, and athletics. He officiated football, basketball, and
 baseball, both at the High School and Collegiate level, including 
officiating football in the Big 8 and Western Athletic Conferences. In 
March of 2003, he was inducted into the Kansas State High School 
Activities Association Hall of Fame. Max was proud of obtaining the 
Grand Royal and World Slams from the National Wild Turkey Federation, by
 harvesting all six species of turkeys.

Max was a 
member of Zion Lutheran Church in Phillipsburg and the Peace Lutheran 
Church in Alma. He served on the church boards for many years. Max also 
mentored students at the Alma and Phillipsburg Public Schools.

He was a 
member of Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, NWTF, and the NRA. He 
served 38 years on the Phillipsburg Volunteer Fire Department and was a 
hospice volunteer. Max was always very active in the community where he 
lived.

Max was 
preceded in death by; his parents; six siblings, four sisters: Shirley 
Kendrick; Margaret Hamel; Barbara Breazile; and LeAnn Wurtele; and two 
brothers: Donovan Porter; and Lyle Porter.

 celebrate his life; his wife, Barbara Porter of Alma; son, Jerre Porter
 and his wife, Kayleen Logan of Rock Springs, Wyoming; two daughters:

Max A. Porter

William “Bill” Anthony Phillips, 47, passed away on November 5, 2020, at 
St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas from complications of 
COVID-19. He was born January 15, 1973, at the Sheridan County Hospital 
in Hoxie, Kansas to Charles Robert Phillips, Sr. and Rose Marie (Becker)
 Phillips. 
 Bill was raised in Menlo, Kansas. He attended twelve years at 
Golden Plains School in Rexford and Selden, where he graduated in 1991. 
 He then went on to auto body school at the Vo-Tech in Goodland, Kansas.
 After school, he came to work in Menlo for his father. 
 Bill had an avid streak for circle track racing which he loved. 
After his father died in 1998, Bill worked at several different places. 
 He then decided to go to NASCAR Technical school in North Carolina. 
Following his graduation, he moved to Garden City to work for Western 
Motors, and to be with the love of his life Mandy Fine. They were 
married on June 27, 2009. After their marriage, Bill adopted Mandy’s 
daughter Aspen. Bill and Mandy have fostered many children over the 
years and in 2019 adopted James Robert Anthony Phillips. 
 While working at Western Motors, Bill achieved all of his 
certifications through Chevy. His hobbies include building race cars 
and derby cars, and he was always working on ways to make things easier 
for their daughter Aspen. Bill also loved riding motorcycles, going on 
poker runs, and creating things with his vinyl printer for friends and 
family. 
 He is survived by his wife Mandy; a daughter Aspen Phillips; son 
James Phillips all of the home; his mother Rose Phillips of Colby, 
Kansas; a brother Charles Phillips, Jr. and wife Sherry of Oakley, 
Kansas; his mother-in-law Sandy Fine of Garden City; a nephew Noah 
Phillips of Hays, Kansas; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Bill is 
preceded in death by his father Charles Robert Phillips, Sr., and his 
grandparents Leo &amp; Aline Becker and Barbara Rose Phillips. 
 A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November
 14, 2020 at the First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City with 
Pastor Jeff Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View

Arthur H. Roberts, 84, died Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton, Kansas.

He was born on February 14, 1936 in Nashville, Tennessee the son of 
James Clough and Margaret Elizabeth (Street) Roberts. He moved to 
Fowler, Kansas in 1971 from Wichita, Kansas where he resided until 
moving to Dodge City, Kansas in 1982. He worked for West Plains Energy 
until the closing of the Dodge City Office. Upon retiring from the 
electric company became a realtor for Coldwell Banker.&nbsp; After retiring 
for a second time, he filled his time working at the United Wireless 
Arena greeting patrons at the elevator.

Art was very active throughout his whole life, while living in 
Fowler, he was an active member of St Augustine’s Church in Meade 
Kansas.&nbsp; Upon closing of that parish, he became a member of St. 
Cornelius Episcopal church in Dodge City. He was active with the 4-H 
club in Meade County, helping with various livestock and cooking 
projects with his children, Arthur was always an avid chef throughout 
his life. After relocating to Dodge City, he became involved with the 
Carnegie art center for many years.

Survivors include: his 3 daughters, Dawn Guenthner, North 
Carolina/West Virginia, Jennifer Whipple and husband Layton, Beeler, 
Kansas, and Lisa Sauls and husband Larry, Texhoma, Oklahoma; a son, 
David Roberts, Elizabeth, Colorado; a sister, Kay Toft, Cincinnati, 
Ohio; 7 Grandchildren; Michael Chinn, Hutchinson, Kansas, Margret 
Guenthner, Branson, Missouri, Sydney Horacek and husband Dustin, 
Spearville, Kansas, Ayden Whipple, Beeler, Kansas, Jami Forgey and 
husband Thomas, Walsh, Colorado, Kati Alexander, Hilo, Hawaii, and Ryan 
Sauls, Texhoma, Oklahoma; and 6 Great Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James C. Roberts Jr., and a great grandson, Gunnar Paxton Chinn.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November, 14, 2020 at 
St. Cornelius Episcopal Church in Dodge City with Fr. John Seatvet 
officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Beeler Cemetery, 
Beeler, Kansas. Friends and family may sign the register on Friday from 
5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel with the family present.

The family suggests memorials to the St. Cornelius Episcopal Church

Patricia A. Brown

Claude L. Keeler Jr., 95, passed away November 8, 2020. He was born 
September 8, 1925, at Seward, to Claude L., Sr. &amp; Iva Mary (Wetig) 
Keeler. He married Georgalee Ann Sallee, September 24, 1949, at St. John.
 She died December 23, 2019.

A Great Bend resident since 1987, Claude previously lived in Russell 
and Claflin. He worked in the oil field supply industry as a sales 
manager for many years. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St.
 Patrick Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Post #6240, Russell.

Survivors include, a son, Raymond Keeler and wife Colette of Great 
Bend; and a daughter, Susan Keeler of Tempe, Ariz.; daughter-in-law, 
Barbara Keeler of Tucson, Ariz.; five brothers, Donald Keeler, Charles 
Keeler and Larry Keeler, all of Great Bend, Marvin Keeler of Salina and 
Ivan Keeler of Colorado City, Colo.; two sisters, Connie Eilts, and 
Marilyn Luenberger-Frank, both of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Tina 
Keeler (Charlie Bird), Tammy (Mike) Steinert, Patrick Keeler, and 
Brittany (Kyle) Aungst; and three great grandchildren, Ashlynn and 
Alaina Steinert, and Wyatt Keeler. He was preceded in death by a son,

Claude L. Keeler Jr.

Jolene Kay Roe was born on May 29, 1950, to Don and Ardis Roe. She passed away on November 7th, 2020, in Lincoln, Nebraska. 
 Jolene grew up in Oberlin and attended Oberlin Elementary School and
 Decatur Community Junior/Senior High School. She graduated in 1968, and
 then went to work for the phone company in McCook, Nebraska.

She 
married Jerry Fortin on December 28th, 1969. They made their home in 
Oberlin. To this union, four children were born, Kevin, Daren, Kristi, 
and Corey. She worked as a nurse’s aide at the Good Samaritan Center 
after getting married. As the kids grew up, she worked as the office 
manager at the Oberlin Livestock Auction. 

Jolene loved the Lord and was a
 member of the Oberlin Covenant Church where she was a deacon, taught 
Sunday school and held many other church duties. She was a wonderful 
mother and homemaker, and she loved to cook. Family was everything to 
her, and on most Sundays, everyone would gather at Grandma Ardis’ house 
for dinner, games and cards. She followed her kids in every school 
activity and especially enjoyed attending sporting events and music 
programs. She was a leader of the Stick-To-It 4-H club numerous times 
during the family’s 20-year involvement with the club. She loved 
birthdays and holidays, and each event was celebrated in a special way. 
Her nine granddaughters were the light of her life, and she followed 
them in many activities as well. 
 She was preceded in death by her father, Donald Roe.

She is survived
 by her husband, Jerry, Oberlin, KS; mother, Ardis Roe, Oberlin, KS; 
brother, Larry Roe (Peggy), Oberlin, KS; sisters, Carol Manning (Jerry),
 Derby, KS and Donna Spresser (Robert), Lansing, KS; sons, Kevin Fortin 
(Lori), Wamego, KS and Daren Fortin (Erica), Oberlin, KS; daughter, 
Kristi Dirks (Brandon), Ludell, KS; son, Corey Fortin (Jason Russell), 
Incheon, South Korea; nine granddaughters: Jessie, Erin, Jacie, Jenna, 
Jori, Kaci, Kylie, Kodi, Kora, and many nieces and nephews.

Jane Gaynell Smith, 70, passed away November 8, 2020, at her home in 
Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born July 30, 1950, in Great Bend to Melvin and 
Glenna (Bardel) Butherus.

Jane, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, was a desk clerk at Best 
Western Angus Inn and enjoyed Hallmark movies, cheering on the Denver 
Broncos, and above all, time spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Terry Bieberle and Kelly Henry and 
husband Raymond all of Great Bend; and three grandchildren, Meagan 
Henry, Justin Henry and Hannah Sexton.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2020, 
at Bryant Funeral Home, with Rev. Adam Wutka presiding.&nbsp; Inurnment will 
follow at Shaffer Cemetery, rural Albert, Kansas.&nbsp; There will be no 
visitation, as cremation has taken place.

Margaret Lee Inloes died Friday morning November 6, 2020, at the Gove County Long Term Care Facility.

She was born on the Lewis family farm in Smith County, Kansas November 29, 1922, the first born of Walter M. and Lelah I. Lewis. She graduated from Brewster High School in 1940 and prepared to be a teacher by attending Fort Hays State College for two years.&nbsp; While teaching in Quinter she met a young farmer Winfred Inloes.&nbsp; They married December 22, 1944, on Winfred’s boot leave from the Navy. Winfred and Margaret Lee began farming with Winfred’s parents upon the completion of his service. &nbsp;

A deep faith and belief in God undergirded all of Margaret Lee’s days.&nbsp; She was committed to the Quinter Church of the Brethren and participated fully in the life of the congregation.&nbsp; M. Lee considered her five children one of her greatest blessings.&nbsp; She loved farming alongside W.D. in the fields and with the cattle and sheep.&nbsp; Some of her special women friends belonged to the Gyne-Fealti Club. &nbsp; She considered many younger friends to be ‘one of her kids’ or grandkids.&nbsp; Margaret Lee was a loyal and compassionate friend.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death was her husband Winfred, and great grandson Caleb Bonde.

Survivors are her five children:&nbsp; Sharon (Keith) DuBois, Quinter; Charlotte (Edwin) Courtney, Hot Springs, Arkansas; Dana Inloes, Paola, Kansas; Dorothy (Jerry) McIntosh, Wichita, Kansas; David (Beverly) Inloes, Paola, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great, great grandchild.&nbsp; Margaret Lee’s sister, Lorna May Stoner, Lawrence, Kansas, two nephews, two nieces and their families also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 12, 2020, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Quinter Church of the Brethren with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM. Burial will take place at Baker Township Cemetery.

Margaret Lee Inloes

Willie G. Peters was born in Topeka, KS on August 24, 1938, and passed away on November 6, 2020, in Oberlin, KS.
 He was raised on the family farm in Red Willow County, NE. Willie 
was a farmer by trade and had many other passions in his life. He loved
 riding horses and motorcycles, hunting, watching football, John Wayne 
movies, and flying. He took great interest in playing cards, usually 
pitch at the sale barn or the Elks Club. He also enjoyed driving his 
semi-truck to haul cows, hay, or anything else to make extra money. 
 Willie learned how to fly at a young age and worked as a spray pilot
 shortly after obtaining his commercial pilot license. His favorite 
airplane was the yellow Super Cub. Willie's friends and family have 
fond memories of flying with him. Those flights usually included coyote
 hunting, checking cows, or observing the farm from the lowest altitude 
possible.
 Willie's favorite color was red, and he believed everything was 
better in red; with the exception of his John Deere green tractors. 
Willie worked hard and played hard. He had a stroke at the age of 62 
while Elk hunting in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Willie continued to 
work and live on the farm for as long as his health would allow him. In
 recent years, he was cared for at the nursing home, where COVID-19 
ended his life.
 Willie is survived by two sons: Rick Peters of Elfrida, AZ, and 
Randy (Lynda) Peters of Oberlin, KS; one daughter: Suzanne Close (Craig)
 of Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren: Travis, Justin (Erin), CJ 
(Jenny), Caleb (Kelsey), Garrett (Amie), Toby (Vanessa), Nolan (Elisha),
 Jillian (Brandon), and Braden; and eighteen great grandchildren with 
two more on the way. Also surviving Willie are his sister, Jane 
Pennock, and numerous other relatives and friends.
 Preceding Willie in death are his parents, Cloyd and Naomi Peters; 
an infant brother, Sheldon; and a daughter-in-law, Jill Peters.

 </figure>Willie G. Peters was born in Topeka, KS on August 24, 1938, and passed away on November 6, 2020, in Oberlin, KS.
 He was raised on the family farm in Red Willow County, NE. Willie 
was a farmer by trade and had many other passions in his life. He loved
 riding horses and motorcycles, hunting, watching football, John Wayne 
movies, and flying. He took great interest in playing cards, usually 
pitch at the sale barn or the Elks Club. He also enjoyed driving his 
semi-truck to haul cows, hay, or anything else to make extra money. 
 Willie learned how to fly at a young age and worked as a spray pilot
 shortly after obtaining his commercial pilot license. His favorite 
airplane was the yellow Super Cub. Willie's friends and family have 
fond memories of flying with him. Those flights usually included coyote
 hunting, checking cows, or observing the farm from the lowest altitude 
possible.
 Willie's favorite color was red, and he believed everything was 
better in red; with the exception of his John Deere green tractors. 
Willie worked hard and played hard. He had a stroke at the age of 62 
while Elk hunting in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Willie continued to 
work and live on the farm for as long as his health would allow him. In
 recent years, he was cared for at the nursing home, where COVID-19 
ended his life.
 Willie is survived by two sons: Rick Peters of Elfrida, AZ, and 
Randy (Lynda) Peters of Oberlin, KS; one daughter: Suzanne Close (Craig)
 of Pensacola, FL; nine grandchildren: Travis, Justin (Erin), CJ 
(Jenny), Caleb (Kelsey), Garrett (Amie), Toby (Vanessa), Nolan (Elisha),
 Jillian (Brandon), and Braden; and eighteen great grandchildren with

Dolores A. Demel, 83, passed away November 8, 2020, Hays Medical 
Center, Hays.&nbsp; She was born January 4, 1937, in rural Great Bend, to 
Albert and Mary (Wondra) Jenisch.&nbsp; Dolores married Stephen Frank Demel 
April 23, 1957, in Odin.&nbsp; He died Oct. 22, 2014.

Dolores, a lifetime resident of rural Odin, was a farm wife and 
homemaker and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed KU basketball, Kansas City Royals, NASCAR and playing pinochle 
with her family.

Survivors include four sons, Roy Demel and wife Gracie of Ellinwood, 
Daniel Demel and wife Darlene of Claflin, Darryl Demel and wife Brandi 
of Claflin and Randy Demel of Claflin; one brother, Raymond Jenisch of 
Hoisington; two sisters, Virginia Zink of Tecumseh and Lucille Kaiser of
 Redwing; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.&nbsp; She was 
preceded in death by her husband, Stephen, and one daughter, Bonita 
Demel.

Due to pandemic concerns, a private family Mass of Christian Burial 
will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church in Odin, with Father Don 
Bedore.&nbsp; Private interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery, Odin.&nbsp; 
Services will be available to be viewed at <a href="http://www.nicholsonrickefh.net">www.nicholsonrickefh.net</a>.&nbsp;
 Public visitation will be Thursday, Nov., 12, 2020, from 3 – 8 p.m., 
and Friday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke 
Funeral Home.&nbsp;
