Larry Gene Lauber, 65, passed away November 20, 2020, at Diversicare 
of Larned. He was born October 11, 1955, at Russell, to Wilford &amp; 
Peggy (Kuntzsch) Lauber. He married Mary Addington June 17, 1977, at 
Great Bend. She survives.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Larry was a driller in the oilfield 
for 38 years. He was a member of the Church of God in Great Bend. He 
enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding Harley motorcycles. He especially loved
 to spend time with his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife Mary Lauber of the home; four sons, Larry
 Lauber, Jr., Andrew Lauber, and Daniel Lauber and wife Janice, all of 
Great Bend, and Jason Lauber of Lyons; a daughter, Raven Lauber-Hamit 
and husband David of Great Bend; a brother, Patrick Lauber and wife 
Dorothy of Osborne; a sister, Angela Lauber of Arizona; and fifteen 
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, November 23, 
2020 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, 
November 24, 2020, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Chaplain Darren Johnson 
presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery. 

Memorials have 
been suggested to the Golden Belt Humane Society and St. Jude Children’s
 Research Hospital, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Dorothy Elizabeth Racette, 100, of Oakley, died Tuesday, November 17, 
2020, at the Logan County Hospital, in Oakley. She was born August 14, 
1920, in a sod house, in southern Logan County, KS, to William O. and 
Beth (Wise) Martin. When Dorothy was 8 years old, her family started 
building a new home. The home was almost finished when a bad storm hit 
and destroyed their sod house. Dorothy remembered moving into the new 
home in the middle of the night, during the storm. 
Dorothy graduated from Monument High School in 1938. In her 20s, Dorothy
 heard of a seed company hiring in Oregon State and moved there with two
 friends. While she was home for Christmas, Frank Flax proposed to her. 
Dorothy and Frank were married in 1946 and had two children, William and
 Mary. They farmed south of Oakley. In 1953 Frank passed away, leaving 
Dorothy to care for their two children. She continued to farm on her own
 until 1955, when she met Wilcid Racette. They were married on June 2, 
1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Oakley and they enjoyed 61 years 
of marriage before his death. They added two more children to the 
family, Steve and Helen. The couple moved into Oakley in 1989. Their 
house was always open for the grandkids and their friends to stop by. 
Dorothy loved feeding them all and being called “grandma” by many. 
Dorothy was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Altar 
Society, VFW, RSVP and Pleasant Hour Club. Never one to sit idle, 
Dorothy volunteered for many things, some of those included delivering 
Meals on Wheels, helping with commodities and Heartland Share, serving 
on the Farm Bureau Board and organizing and serving funeral dinners. She
 also made old-fashioned noodles for the Catholic and Methodist 
churches. If you ever had a question about the history of Oakley, 
Dorothy was the one to ask. She was an Oakley Historian and remembered 
everyone. 
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Frank Flax and 
Wilcid Racette; son, William Joseph Flax; sisters, Opal Bretz, Bertha 
Joseph and Leila Burkhead and brothers, William Martin and infant John 
Martin.

Eloise M. Reece, 91, passed away November 19, 2020, at Medicalodge of Kinsley.

She was born July 30, 1929, in Larned, the daughter of Willard and 
Minnie Showalter Branine.&nbsp; A lifetime area resident, she was a farm wife
 and homemaker.

She was a member of the Burdett United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Burdett Senior Center.

On January 15, 1950, she married Ernest Eugene Reece at Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; He passed away July 20, 2007.

Survivors include; two sons, Dennis (Sue) Reece, Wichita, Les Reece, 
Burdett; a daughter, Karen (Cedric) Hands, Garden City; five 
grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest.

Due to covid, a private family service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday,
 November 27, 2020, at Beckwith Mortuary with Rev. Mitch Reece presiding.

Virginia Gwen Young, age 68, of Colby, 
passed away Wednesday, November 18th, 2020, at Hays Medical Center in 
Hays, Kansas.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was born June 17, 1952, in Colby, Kansas to Jefferson 
and Gwen (Couch) Young. Virginia was baptized in the First Presbyterian 
Church of Colby and attended school in Colby, a proud graduate of the 
1970 senior class. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bethany 
College in Lindsborg, Kansas.&nbsp;

After college, Virginia Gwen lived and
 worked in Denver before returning home to Colby.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was best known as
 the Executive Assistant at Citizen’s Medical Center from 1988 until she
 retired in December 2015.&nbsp;&nbsp;She strived for excellence when fulfilling 
her job responsibilities and felt a special affection for her 
colleagues. In retirement, she enjoyed cooking, crosswords, reading, 
classic movies and art.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a faithful, loyal and loving person.

Virginia Gwen is survived by her 
younger brother, Jeff Young, his wife, Ann of Hays, and sister-in-law,
 Nancy Young of Olathe, Kansas. Nephews Parker Young and family, Matt 
Young and family, Ethan Young and family, and niece Sarah Young, cherish
 the times they each spent in the company of “Aunt Ginny”.

Virginia Gwen was preceded in death by 
her parents, two older brothers, Parker and Keane Young, and by her 
nephew Brendan Young.&nbsp;

A private family service will be planned for a later date.

Virginia Young

Danny E. Echer, 86, of Lucas, Kansas, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at his home in Lucas.

Danny was born on April 10, 1934, in Rural Osborne County, Kansas, the only child of Frank and Sylvia (Florian) Echer.  He grew up in Lucas, Kansas, and graduated from Lucas High School in 1952.  After high school he served his country by joining the United States Army.  He was united in marriage to Ramona Svaty on September 23, 1956 at the Baptist Church in Lucas, Kansas.  They lived a full and happy life in Lucas for over 50 years.  From this union Danny and Ramona were blessed with two daughters Jill and Joy.  Danny &amp; Ramona gave their girls an idyllic childhood, with Sunday dinners at either Grandma-on-the-farm’s house or Grandma-in-town’s house. He worked as a farmer but also worked as a Meat Inspector for 30 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  He was a longtime member of the Lucas United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed taking care of his farm, going to sale barn auctions, researching war history and spending time with his family, friends and neighbors.

Surviving family include daughters Jill Vinson of Salina, Kansas, and Joy Echer of New York, New York.  Three grandchildren Rachel Camese, Cole VanBlaricon and Olivia Schaan; and three great grandchildren Warrick VanBlaricon, Strattyn Wheeler and Briggs Schaan.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Ramona on January 22, 2016.

A graveside service to celebrate Danny’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, at the Lucas City Cemetery in Lucas, Kansas.  Family and friends can view Danny from 9 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, November 25th at the Lucas United Methodist Church.  The family will greet guests the day of service at the cemetery. 

 Memorials may be given to the Lucas United Methodist Church and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.

Randy Lee Mapes, 32, of Quapaw, OK died Friday, November 13, 2020 at 
Integris Miami Hospital, Miami, OK. He was born September 15, 1988 to 
David Lee Mapes and Frances Rene (Ainsworth) Vogler in McPherson, KS.
 Randy attended schools in McPherson, KS. He married Allysha 
Montgomery in Smith Center, KS on July 10, 2013 and they were parents of
 three boys Bentley, Brenner and Blayne. Randy worked as a Certified 
Nurse Aide, working in many area facilities as a traveling CNA. He 
loved to bake, always looking for a new and delicious recipe to try. He
 enjoyed gardening and looked forward to trips to the greenhouse to 
start planting. He also enjoyed taking the boys to the lake, fishing 
and camping.
 He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Fran Taylor, paternal grandfather Eddie Mapes and aunt Rhonda Hart.
 He is survived by sons Bentley, Brenner and Blayne of Smith Center,

Karol Ann Carden, 73, passed away November 19, 2020 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born January 5, 1947 in Horton, KS, the daughter of Dean and 
Loretta Bell Mitchell Querry.&nbsp; A longtime area resident, she was a 
Health Aide at the Larned State Hospital.

She was a member of the First Christian Church, Larned.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
Collecting Holstein cow figurines, tuxedo cats, doing needle point and 
cross stitch, coloring, going to coffee and loved spending time with 
family and friends.

On June 3, 1967 she married Dennis H. Carden in Larned.&nbsp; He survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Terri (James) Nauert, Hubert 
Heights, Ohio and Elizabeth (Robert) Keller, Larned; five grandchildren,
 Justin, Johnathan and Jericah Nauert, Ayla Wagner, Brandon Johnson and 
ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth Querry and a brother-in-law, Ronald D. Carden.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2020 at 
Garfield Cemetery, Garfield with Pastor Damon Bradley presiding.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Mortuary,

IIla “Jean” (Lowrey) Bacon, 90, passed away on Saturday, November 14, 
2020 at the Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas due to complications of 
Covid-19. She was born to Leon E. and Lucy Ann (Berry) Lowrey in 
Neosho, Missouri on February 28, 1930. She grew up in Neosho on the 
family farm. Jean was baptized at a young age in the river near her 
home. She attended the Neosho Schools graduating from Neosho High 
School. After graduation, she moved out to Northwest Kansas to help her
 sister with her children. Her sister’s husband was working for the 
Foster Farms near Rexford, Kansas. When Jean was done helping her 
sister, she worked in the Rexford Café. Henry Lloyd “Red” Bacon was a 
regular at the café and Jean met and fell in love with him. Jean and 
Lloyd were married in 1950. They were blessed with two children Danny 
and Marcy.
 Jean and Lloyd lived in Rexford, Kansas where Lloyd was working as a
 Post Master. Jean helped Lloyd in the Post Office working as a Postal 
Clerk. December 17, 1968, Lloyd passed away. Exactly three years after
 Lloyd’s death, Jean was blessed with her first grandson, Kyle Keith 
Gilbert. Eventually, Jean moved to Hoxie, Kansas. She worked for the 
Sheridan County Health Complex as Supervisor of the House Keeping 
Department. She also worked for Developmental Services of Northwest 
Kansas DSNWK). She loved cooking and enjoyed cooking for her grandson, 
Bryce. Gardening and doing yard work was a passion of hers. She always
 wanted her yard to look nice and mowed it as often as she could. Jean
 loved going to her grandkids wrestling, basketball, and volleyball 
events. Royal’s baseball and Red’s ice cream where something she really
 enjoyed. Jean was an energetic, on the go person and loved looking for
 a bargain at the flea markets, Swap Shop, or garage sales.
 Jean is survived by her son, Danny Bacon and wife Ronda of Hoxie, 
Kansas; daughter, Marcy Gilbert and husband Keith of Rexford, Kansas; 
Grandchildren, Kyle Gilbert, Michelle Renner, Seth Gilbert, Shaun 
Gilbert, Brandy Benavidez, Ashley Breese, Bryce Bacon, and Danielle 
Bacon; great-grandchildren, Jada Renner, Levi Renner, Talon Breese, 
Trace Breese, Dominic Benavidez, and Eziekel Benavidez, and sisters, 
Bessie Lauffer of Independence, Missouri and Ellen Jeffers of 
Independence, Missouri.
 She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lloyd “Red” Bacon; 
Parents, Leon and Lucy Lowrey; brother, Charles Lowrey; sisters, Eunice 
Wisehart, Virginia Hoppas, Viola Smith, Rosalee Middleton.
 A Funeral Service is planned for Monday, November 23, 2020, 2:00

Carol Ann Huffman, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at her 
home in Great Bend. She was born May 4, 1945, in Great Bend the daughter
 of Edward and Marie (Krmela) Horyna.

Carol was a life time resident of Great Bend. She was a member of the
 Eagles and the Assembly of God Church. Carol enjoyed collecting humming
 birds and walking. She loved spending time with family.

Survivors include two sons, Leslie Hopkins of Hutchinson, and Tommy 
Hopkins of Great Bend; two daughters, Pamela Hopkins and Kristie Huffman
 both of Great Bend; a brother, Edwin Horyna of Hutchinson; four 
sisters, Rose Cosper of Grand Prairie, TX, Betty Hafenstine of LaCrosse,
 Connie Allen of McPherson, and Lois Cox of South Hutchinson; eleven 
grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death 
by her parents; three brothers, Clarence, Donald, and Kenneth Horyna; 
and two sisters, Evelyn Knox and Sylvia Horyna.

Visitation will be held 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2020,

Maybelline "May" Joyce Karst, 87, passed away Nov. 19, 2020, at 
Medicalodges of Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born March 2, 1933, at the farm, in
 rural Milberger, to George and Mary (Kraft) Steinert.&nbsp; May married 
Leonard Karst April 16, 1950, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, north of 
Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp;

May, a resident of Great Bend since 1968, moving from the farm in 
Galatia, was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Milberger, 
and currently a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend. 
She retired as a CNA at ElderCare, previously working as a dietician for
 the Dominican Sisters of Peace and Central Kansas Medical Center, J.C. 
Penney, Kmart, and previous owner of the Zarah Cafe.&nbsp; Her volunteer 
spirit was displayed through the Barton County Food Bank, Red Cross 
blood drives, and Trinity Lutheran Church's home communion ministry.&nbsp;

Survivors include husband Leonard Karst; two sons, Allen Karst and 
wife Doris of Great Bend and Michael Karst and wife Tracey of 
Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Debra Karst of Pflugerville, Texas, and
 Loralie Weller of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Amy Paden and 
husband David, Timothy Karst and wife Shari, Jeremy Weller, Kaleia 
Karst, Kelsey Karst, Keaton Karst, Zachary Karst and Michael Anderson; 
six great grandchildren, Daulton Paden, Dylon Paden, Cody Karst, Luke 
Karst, Mason Paden and Jaron Anderson; and one great great grandchild, 
Isom Paden.&nbsp; She was preceded in passing by one great granddaughter, 
Brecklyn Paden.

Junior A. Steinbring, 93, passed away November 19, 2020 at Hodgeman County Health Center, Jetmore.

He was born August 22, 1927 in Spearville, the son of Fred and Lillian Demain Steinbring.

A lifetime area resident he was the owner and operator of Jetmore 
Lumber. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Lions Club, and 
the American Legion, all of Jetmore; the VFW, Dodge City; sat on the 
Jetmore City Council, and served in the United States Navy.

On July 16, 1950 he married Elsie Ehrlich at Dodge City, she survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Larry (Betsy) Steinbring,&nbsp; and 
Gary Steinbring, both of Jetmore; three grandchildren, and three great 
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Galen Steinbring, and a daughter, Jana Steinbring

Junior A. Steinbring

It is with great sadness that the family of Marina Munsch announces 
her passing, on November 16, 2020, at the age of 95 years.&nbsp;She will be 
forever missed by her family and friends.

Born to Peter and Christina (Herrman) Suppes in Liebenthal, Kansas on
 June 18, 1925, family and friends within the small community referred 
to her as “Dolly” as a child. She fondly recalled attending the 
community’s Catholic School and helping the local nuns with chores 
during her childhood. Subsequent to her parents’ grocery business and 
house burning down in separate accidents, the family moved to LaCrosse, 
Kansas. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1943 and entered the 
workforce. She exchanged vows with Edwin Munsch on May 19, 1947, at 
Saint John’s Catholic Church near Bazine, Kansas, and cherished their 60
 years of marriage.

Marina is remembered for her work ethic. She held several jobs 
throughout her teenage years, including babysitting, newspaper delivery,
 handicap services, and selling popcorn at the LaCrosse Movie Theater. 
She proudly assisted with the war effort through her employment as a 
spot welder with the “Rosie the Riveter” women’s workforce in Wichita, 
Kansas. Following marriage, she helped with farm work and raised the 
couple’s five children. By 1964, all of the couple’s children were 
attending school and Marina applied for a job at the Ness County 
Hospital. She held continuous employment within the Ness County 
Hospital’s Laundry Department for 45 years, serving 42 years as 
Department Supervisor.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Christian 
Mothers. She held a lifetime American Legion Auxiliary membership. She 
enjoyed serving her community as a Eucharistic Minister, visiting 
individuals at the hospital and their homes.&nbsp; She loved her family, 
enthusiastically attending her children’s football and basketball games 
and spending all available opportunities with her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren. She was an avid player of checkers, cards, and 
crossword puzzles.

She is survived by a son and three daughters, Mike Munsch and his 
wife Jean Munsch, Vicki Herrman and her husband Steve Herrman, Betty 
Knoll and her husband Don Knoll, and Christy Healzer and her husband 
Paul Healzer; daughter-in-law, Debbie Munsch; sister, Elsie Haberman; 
brother, Gilbert Suppes; thirteen grandchildren, David Munsch, Matt 
Munsch, Becky Newell, Todd Munsch, Addison Munsch, BJ Munsch, Amy 
Hayden, Tate Herrman, Stephanie Brown, Ashley Knoll, Sarah Sandbo, 
Stephen Healzer, and Mark Healzer; seventeen great-grandchildren; and 
two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
 Edwin Munsch; a son, Ronald Munsch; a baby grandson, Cody Munsch; 
parents, Peter and Christina Suppes; a baby sister, Edith Suppes; and 
two brothers, Arnold and Jerome Suppes.

Parish vigil and rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November
 20, 2020, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, 
November 21, 2020, officiated by Father Pascal Klein. Both events will

her passing, on November 16, 2020, at the age of 95 years.&nbsp;She will be 
forever missed by her family and friends.Born to Peter and Christina (Herrman) Suppes in Liebenthal, Kansas on
 June 18, 1925, family and friends within the small community referred 
to her as “Dolly” as a child. She fondly recalled attending the 
community’s Catholic School and helping the local nuns with chores 
during her childhood. Subsequent to her parents’ grocery business and 
house burning down in separate accidents, the family moved to LaCrosse, 
Kansas. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1943 and entered the 
workforce. She exchanged vows with Edwin Munsch on May 19, 1947, at 
Saint John’s Catholic Church near Bazine, Kansas, and cherished their 60
 years of marriage.Marina is remembered for her work ethic. She held several jobs 
throughout her teenage years, including babysitting, newspaper delivery,
 handicap services, and selling popcorn at the LaCrosse Movie Theater. 
She proudly assisted with the war effort through her employment as a 
spot welder with the “Rosie the Riveter” women’s workforce in Wichita, 
Kansas. Following marriage, she helped with farm work and raised the 
couple’s five children. By 1964, all of the couple’s children were 
attending school and Marina applied for a job at the Ness County 
Hospital. She held continuous employment within the Ness County 
Hospital’s Laundry Department for 45 years, serving 42 years as 
Department Supervisor.She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Christian 
Mothers. She held a lifetime American Legion Auxiliary membership. She 
enjoyed serving her community as a Eucharistic Minister, visiting 
individuals at the hospital and their homes.&nbsp; She loved her family, 
enthusiastically attending her children’s football and basketball games 
and spending all available opportunities with her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren. She was an avid player of checkers, cards, and 
crossword puzzles.She is survived by a son and three daughters, Mike Munsch and his 
wife Jean Munsch, Vicki Herrman and her husband Steve Herrman, Betty 
Knoll and her husband Don Knoll, and Christy Healzer and her husband 
Paul Healzer; daughter-in-law, Debbie Munsch; sister, Elsie Haberman; 
brother, Gilbert Suppes; thirteen grandchildren, David Munsch, Matt 
Munsch, Becky Newell, Todd Munsch, Addison Munsch, BJ Munsch, Amy 
Hayden, Tate Herrman, Stephanie Brown, Ashley Knoll, Sarah Sandbo, 
Stephen Healzer, and Mark Healzer; seventeen great-grandchildren; and 
two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband,
 Edwin Munsch; a son, Ronald Munsch; a baby grandson, Cody Munsch; 
parents, Peter and Christina Suppes; a baby sister, Edith Suppes; and 
two brothers, Arnold and Jerome Suppes.Parish vigil and rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November

Marina Munsch

Almeda Marie Jurgensen, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2020,
 at University of Kansas Health System, in Great Bend. She was born 
December 5, 1935, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Jake and Leona 
(Dinges) Herl. Almeda married Merle D. Jurgensen on May 5, 1953, in 
Great Bend. He passed away February 15, 2013.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a sales clerk for 
Anthony’s. Almeda was a member of Prince of Peace at St. Rose Catholic 
Church. She enjoyed reading, shopping, fashion, and drinking Pepsi. She 
loved spending time with her family, especially the grandkids.

Survivors include; three sons, Eddie Jurgensen and wife Cindy of 
Great Bend, Bradley Jurgensen and significant other Lisa Garland of 
Oskaloosa, and Brett Jurgensen and wife Pricella “Zoe” of Apple Valley, 
California; twelve grandchildren, Brandi Scheck, Chelsea Hartshorn, Kyla
 Jurgensen, Katelyn Johannes, Andrew Jurgensen, Drew Jurgensen, Hannah 
Jurgensen, Hayley Sleffel, Tara Jurgensen, Cody Jurgensen, Sherri 
Scheuber, and Amanda Schaffer; and seventeen great grandchildren. She

Donald L. “Don” Bahr, 89, passed away Nov. 13, 2020, at his home near
 Olmitz.&nbsp; He was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Olmitz to William and Anna 
(Hickey) Bahr.

Donald, a lifetime Olmitz resident and farmer, was a member of St. 
Ann Catholic Church and 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus, 
Council #2100.

Survivors include two brothers, Marion Bahr of Claflin, and Robert 
Bahr of Houston; one sister, Rose Ann Wondra of Claflin; and numerous 
nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil 
Bahr, Charles Bahr, Frederick Bahr and Francis Bahr; and by one sister, 
Catherine Oborny.

Larry Brent Graham, 79, died November 18, 2020, at Hays Medical 
Center, Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born April 2, 1941, in Council Grove, 
Kansas, the son of Nelson Everett and Vivian C. (Johnston) Graham.&nbsp; 
Larry served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 
to 1964.&nbsp;

Larry was a longtime Claflin resident. He worked for Kansas Brick and
 Tile in Hoisington for many years.&nbsp; Larry was an active member of the 
Zion Lutheran Church in Claflin.

Survivors include; two sons, Todd Graham and wife Melissa of Grain 
Valley, Missouri, and Trevor Graham and wife Jolie of Leavenworth, 
Kansas; extended family of the heart, June Garrett of Claflin, Gary 
Garrett and wife Kristen of Wichita, Rachael Nagel and husband Travis of
 Great Bend; three sisters, Margaret Ann Bryant, Martha Wayman and 
husband Robert, and Beverly Gwinn; and 18 grandchildren, Jessie, Jayden,
 Triston, Andrew, Raif, Alana, Bella, Jacqueline, James, Haley, Luke, 
Ethan, Terrance, Talem, Angel, Neveah, Trevin, and Jacob.

He was preceded in death by brothers, John, Lauren, and Russell Bruce
 Graham; brothers-in-law, Allen Bryant and Ed Gwinn; and son of the

She was born January 7, 1940, in Oil 
City, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Steve and Lena (Bisker) Veres.&nbsp; In 
1957, she graduated from Oil City High School.&nbsp; She earned a Bachelor of 
Science degree from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio and a Masters of 
Social Work degree from Ohio State University. On December 31, 1967, she
 was united in marriage to Lionel Preston Caprez in Worthington, Ohio 
and they celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage.&nbsp; 

Judy and Preston moved
 to Hays in August of 1968 and she became the first Director of the 
Psychiatric Inpatient Unit at High Plains Mental Health Center, fourth 
floor Hadley.&nbsp; She was the Supervising Social Worker for High Plains 
Mental Health Center, Administrative Director of Nursing at Hadley 
Hospital, an instructor in the Department of Social Work at Fort Hays 
State University, and for the last 23 years at FHSU was Director of the 
Social Work Department.&nbsp; Judy owned her own private social work 
counseling practice, wrote a daily article for the Hays Daily News, and 
served on several committees including Big Brothers Big Sisters and the 
First Call For Help Board.

Survivors include her husband Lionel 
Preston of Hays, a son: Dr. Adam Caprez of Lincoln, NE, a daughter: Dr. 
Cassanda Caprez-Davis and husband Lt. Col. Chris Davis of Castle Rock, 
CO, and two grandchildren: Mitchell and Savannah Davis.

Judith V. 'Judy' Caprez

LeHart “Lee” Dean Gemaehlich, 86, passed away November 17, 2020, at his Dodge City, Kansas home.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Lee was born June 25, 1934, in Kensington, Kansas and was the first 
child born to Norma Louise (Dettmer) and Hardy F. Gemaehlich.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Lee attended Grade School through High School in Kensington, Kansas. 
He proudly graduated high school as a Kensington Goldbug. He also 
received his Associate of Arts from Dodge City Community College and 
Realtor License later in life.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Lee was a family man to his core. He was a loving husband, daddy, 
grandpa, and great grandpa as he built a solid family pyramid to cement 
his legacy. Lee lived life by example for his family, friends, and 
community. He was kind-hearted and generous with his set of skills and 
never-ending love. He was proud to emulate the nature of his mother and 
maternal grandfather. They taught him to be a productive member of his 
community and devout Christian man.

Lee was drafted into the Army in March 1957 and served two years as a Specialist - 4th
 Class in Munich, Germany. On November 15, 1958, Lee married Cathy 
Jimenez in Munich. They had an adventurous honeymoon traveling through 
Europe, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria. Lee started his career 
at Boeing as a machinist, then was employed by Unisys as a Field 
Engineer for over twenty years. Lee and Cathy lived in Valley Center for
 a short stint and then spent the remainder of their married life in 
Garden City and ultimately in Dodge City. In 1961, they started their 
family and had two children, LeAnn and Dean. Two days prior to his 
passing, they shared and celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage.&nbsp;

Born and raised on a Smith County farm, Lee possessed a disciplined 
work ethic. This shined through in all he did through life. Taught by 
his father, Lee was a skilled handyman, working construction as a young 
man prior to and after serving in the Army.&nbsp; Lee instilled in LeAnn and 
Dean that common sense, integrity, and empathy are paramount to a 
successful life.&nbsp; He also loved the outdoors! He would take every 
possible opportunity to camp, hunt, fish, or trail ride on motorcycles 
and ATVs, while enjoying the Colorado Rockies throughout his life. This 
love for nature’s bounty is now shared by all members of his adoring 
family.&nbsp;

Lee and Cathy loved to travel, visiting much of the United States and
 enjoying a few vacations in St Croix and Mexico.&nbsp; His trip of a 
lifetime was traveling through Alaska with friends, spanning Prudhoe Bay
 to Fairbanks.&nbsp; Lee was a lifetime member of the VFW as well as Dodge 
City Lions Club, where he served several terms as Lions President and 
other official duties.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Knights of 
Columbus.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Cathy; daughter, LeAnn Yost and husband 
Doug of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Dean Gemaehlich and wife Kathy of 
Dodge City; granddaughter, Ashley Gemaehlich and boyfriend Jon Wendal of
 Dodge City; 2 grandsons, Tanner Gemaehlich and wife MeKayla of Dodge 
City, and Justin Gemaehlich and wife Jada of Hays, Kansas; and 3 
precious great-grandchildren, Gannon Dean, Sylvir Faith, and Ella 
Janise. Additionally, Lee is survived by his 3 cherished sisters Carolyn
 Billings and husband Stanley, Jean Ragland, and Twila Hickman and 
husband Jay and many more family members.&nbsp; Lee’s first love was his 
family who he deeply treasured!

Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Norma Gemaehlich.&nbsp;

Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:00 
pm Sunday, November 22, 2020, both at the Cathedral of Our Lady of 
Guadalupe. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday at the church with 
the Most Rev. Ronald M. Gilmore presiding and Fr. Wesley Schawe 
concelebrating. Burial will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at St. John Lutheran 
Cemetery, Kensington, Kansas.

Dean that common sense, integrity, and empathy are paramount to a 
successful life.&nbsp; He also loved the outdoors! He would take every 
possible opportunity to camp, hunt, fish, or trail ride on motorcycles 
and ATVs, while enjoying the Colorado Rockies throughout his life. This 
love for nature’s bounty is now shared by all members of his adoring 
family.&nbsp;Lee and Cathy loved to travel, visiting much of the United States and
 enjoying a few vacations in St Croix and Mexico.&nbsp; His trip of a 
lifetime was traveling through Alaska with friends, spanning Prudhoe Bay
 to Fairbanks.&nbsp; Lee was a lifetime member of the VFW as well as Dodge 
City Lions Club, where he served several terms as Lions President and 
other official duties.&nbsp; He was also a member of the Knights of 
Columbus.&nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Cathy; daughter, LeAnn Yost and husband 
Doug of Overland Park, Kansas; son, Dean Gemaehlich and wife Kathy of 
Dodge City; granddaughter, Ashley Gemaehlich and boyfriend Jon Wendal of
 Dodge City; 2 grandsons, Tanner Gemaehlich and wife MeKayla of Dodge 
City, and Justin Gemaehlich and wife Jada of Hays, Kansas; and 3 
precious great-grandchildren, Gannon Dean, Sylvir Faith, and Ella 
Janise. Additionally, Lee is survived by his 3 cherished sisters Carolyn
 Billings and husband Stanley, Jean Ragland, and Twila Hickman and 
husband Jay and many more family members.&nbsp; Lee’s first love was his 
family who he deeply treasured!Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Hardy and Norma Gemaehlich.&nbsp;Vigil service followed by Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:00 
pm Sunday, November 22, 2020, both at the Cathedral of Our Lady of

LeHart 'Lee' Dean Gemaehlich

Laverne “Duffer” E. Mauck, 95, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 
2020 at his home in Hoxie, Kansas. On August 6, 1925, Duffer was born 
to Henry and Emma (Trueblood) Mauck on the family farm in rural Sheridan
 County. He attended grade school nearby at the Chicago School House 
and graduated from Sheridan County Community High School with the class 
of 1943. 
 Duffer was first drafted into the United States Army during WWII 
only to be instructed by the War Department to return to farming. He 
then served in the Army’s 1st Cavalry Division where he earned the 
Combat Infantryman Badge and Korean Service Medal. While in the service,
 Duffer enjoyed playing baseball for the Fort Riley baseball team and 
outshooting all of the officers on the rifle team as a Private First 
Class. His skill in both baseball and shooting, coupled with his 
stubborn candor, gave him ample opportunity to share his opinion with 
those in command and contributed to a rather unique experience in the 
Army.
 With six weeks notice before being sent to serve in the Korean 
Conflict, Duffer and JoAnn (Coulter) Mauck rushed to tie the knot on 
August 22, 1950. This institutionalized the beginning of what became 
their 70-year love story. When Duffer returned from fighting in heavy 
combat in Korea, they moved to their honeymoon cottage where they raised
 their family and were blessed with a family of five children, Rex, 
Roger, Brena, Karen, and Rodney, who share many warm memories from "the 
farm". 
 Duffer raised his family while farming. It gave him the opportunity
 to farm into the wee hours of the night so that he could attend his 
son's many wrestling matches. Having been a high school state wrestling
 champion himself, he found great joy in watching his son's wrestle. He
 logged many miles as he never missed a match. He filmed their matches 
and the whole family would gather and watch them on the living room wall
 as he would "coach" them. Duffer continued the enjoyment of logging 
many miles as he watched grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their 
athletic activities also.
 Duffer is well-known for his pranking which has been passed down to 
almost all in the family and has led to many laughs. One of the “famous”
 pranks was the time he crawled under a pickup in the dark that was 
parked in the field and waited patiently for Roger so he could grab 
Roger’s feet and scare him. He was rewarded for his efforts by Roger’s 
reaction. Duffer’s shoulders always bounced up and down with a twinkle 
in his eyes while he laughingly recounted many such stories over the 
years.
 Duffer enjoyed fishing from childhood through retirement. 
Additionally, he grew to appreciate rock and fossil hunting with JoAnn. 
Their expeditions began locally with trips to Castle Rock and developed 
into cross-country treks. He outfitted his pickup with a wench to help 
lift his favorite fossils. One of his finds was published and others are
 displayed at museums throughout Kansas. He shared his discoveries and 
insights with his family, many grade school classes and anyone that 
showed an interest in his hobby. The prankster in him came out when he 
tricked many enthusiasts into licking his special rock, and then 
watching their faces when he told them they had just licked petrified 
dinosaur poop. This hobby led to trips throughout the world to explore 
ancient artifacts and fossils. They spent time in Arizona, Utah, Egypt, 
Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, and Montana, just to name a few. 
 One of his greatest prides was perfecting his jerky recipe over many
 years which his grandkids loved. It gave him great pride to make a 
batch when he knew the grandkids and the great-grandkids were coming. He
 also had a soft spot for romantic ‘50s music and Hawaiian tunes, so 
much that he traded for a radio in Korea so he could listen to tunes, 
like the Tennessee Waltz, as often as they would play. At home he made 
hours of tapes, cds, and then MP3s for all who would listen.
 Duffer is survived by his sons, Rex Mauck (Dorothea) of Longwood, 
Florida and Roger Mauck (Dolores)of Hoxie, Kansas; daughters, Brena 
Mauck of Hays, Kansas and Karen Billinger (Ed KImminau) of Dodge City, 
Kansas; sister, Elaine Kramer of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren, 
Melissa Small (Richie), Nathan Mauck (Kelsie), Dr. Michelle Pope 
(Jason), Tate Mauck (Heather), Adam Mauck (Krista), and Michaela Linden 
(Brett), Brandon Billinger (Liz) and Amy Billinger; great-grandchildren 
Zoe Small, Sophie Mauck, Truman Mauck, Emma Pope, Grace Pope, Kate Pope,
 Charlie Pope, Sydney Mauck, Reilly Mauck, Avery Mauck, Harper Mauck, 
Blayke Mauck, Max Mauck, Maggie Mauck, Parker Linden, Collins Linden, ,

 He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Mauck; parents, Henry

L. 'Duffer' E. Mauck

Barbara "Sue" Campbell, 83, passed away on November 16th, 2020. Her 
death was due to complications from COVID-19, however, she was not alone
 and in the comfort of her Hoisington, KS home.

On November 3rd, 1937, Sue was born to Walter "Shelby" Hawkins and 
Letha May (Fisher) Hawkins in Maud, OK. She was an alumna of Hoisington 
High School, class of 1955. She married a dashing young Marine, Orville 
Richard “Dick” Campbell (1934-2008), on May 3rd, 1959 in Hoisington, KS.
 They had three wonderful, strong, and stubborn children: Russ, Rana and
 Robert. Professionally, she was a business owner of “Le Shop” hair 
salon and went on to be a proud employee of ElderCare, Inc. in Great 
Bend, KS where she retired after 18 years. Sue was an active member at 
the First United Methodist Church and was involved with American Legion 
Auxiliary, Post #286. Sue volunteered with Boy Scout Troop #130, and was
 a leader of Explorer Post #013.

Very few things were more important to her than God, family, and the 
people she surrounded herself with. She was firm and soft in all the 
ways a mother should be. She was a strong constant for all of the people
 who were a part of her beautiful life. She celebrated life in many 
“little” ways: ice cream and popcorn for dinner on Sundays, posting 
daily Bible verses, and tending to her flowers (real AND virtual). Sue 
was all but quiet in the kind of love and support she would give. She 
never forgot a birthday and strove to be there for important events. Sue
 found comfort in truth and never valued herself above others.

She is survived by one son, Robert Campbell; one daughter, Rana 
Campbell (Richard Lynn); a daughter-in-law, Holly Campbell-Heinze (Ron 
Heinze); four grandchildren: Shiree Houf (Donnie Houf), Shelby Lynn, Ian
 Lynn (Michelle Castillo), Courtney Campbell (Marcus Allen); and two 
great grandchildren, Arabell &amp; Emerson Houf. Sue was preceded in 
death by her parents; husband; son, Russell Campbell; her brother, Bill 
Hawkins; and devoted dog, Jack.

Services will not be held until 2021 or until the threat of the 
COVID-19 pandemic has decreased enough for family to travel and gather. 
If you would like to make a memorial in her honor before such a time is 
decided, please consider First United Methodist Church or the American 
Legion Auxiliary Scholarship Fund. While we wait to celebrate her life,

Barbara 'Sue' Campbell

Lavern George Bieker, age 75, of McCook, NE passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, NE.

Lavern was born October 29, 1945 to parents Martin and Josephine 
(Jegan) Bieker on the family farm near Grainfield, KS. He was one of 
three children who attended school in Hoxie, KS, graduating from Hoxie 
High School with the Class of 1963.&nbsp; Following high school, Lavern 
proudly served his country in the United States Army where he earned a 
Purple Heart during his tour in Vietnam.&nbsp;

On November 30, 1968, Lavern married Kathleen (Holzmeister) Bieker at
 Angelus, KS. The couple was blessed with four wonderful children.&nbsp; The 
family made their home in the Hoxie area until 1982 when they moved to 
Hayes Center, NE.&nbsp; Lavern worked in grain management for several years 
before starting his own business, Bieker Welding, in Hayes Center. He 
later moved the business to McCook.

Lavern was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Knights of 
Columbus, a lifetime member of the 11th Armored Calvary’s Veterans of 
Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as a member of St. Patrick’s Church. He 
served on the Hayes Center School Board and was a commander for the 
American Legion.&nbsp; Lavern was also the Veteran’s Service Officer for many
 years in Hayes County.&nbsp;

Welding and fabrication were Lavern’s pride and joy.&nbsp; He spent numerous hours in his shop just tinkering.

Lavern was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Josephine 
Bieker; his father and mother in law, Lawrence (Frances) Holzmeister and
 bother in law, William Mask.

Those left to celebrate his life include his wife of almost 52 years,
 Kathleen Bieker of McCook; sons, Lester (Traci) Bieker, Leelan (Maria) 
Bieker and Jason Bieker and friend Emily Perry, all of McCook; daughter,
 Collete Guynan of North Platte, NE; brother, Lawrence Bieker of Hoxie, 
KS; sister, Loretta Mask of Russell, KS; six grandchildren, six great 
grandchildren and a host of extended family member and lifelong friends.

Lavern George Bieker

Mary Beth Gorden, age 68, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020 at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas.  She was born on August 1, 1952 in Geneseo, Illinois, the daughter of Bill and Eunice Marchand Rambo Jr.  In 1986 Mary Beth moved with her family from Illinois to Sublette, Kansas, then in 1987 they moved to Garden City, Kansas.  In 1989 they moved to Leoti, Kansas and then to Scott City, Kansas in 2015.

She was a member of Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas.

On September 6, 1975 she married Arlan Gorden at Sacred Heart Church in Annawan, Illinois.  He survives.

Survivors include her Husband - Arlan Gorden of Leoti, Kansas, Three Daughters - Jennifer Thompson of Colby, Kansas, Karen &amp; Kevin Stallings of Camp Verde, Arizona, Cathy Gorden of Scott City, Kansas, Parents - Bill &amp; Eunice Rambo of Annawan, Illinois, One Brother - Bill F. Rambo of Annawan, Illinois, Two Sisters - Jackie &amp; Dick Crosby of Harvard, Illinois, Sue &amp; Bill Dierex of Annawan, Illinois, Six Grandchildren - Courtney Van Eaton of Lawrence, Kansas, Rachel Van Eaton of Colby, Kansas, Carson Van Eaton of Colby, Kansas, Erin Woody of Lexington, Nebraska, Tyler Woody of Lexington, Nebraska, Emilee Turley of Scott City, Kansas, Several Brothers-In-Law, One Sister-In-Law, and numerous Nieces &amp; Newphews.

She was preceded in death by her Mother-In-Law and Two Sisters-In-Law.

In 1989 they moved to Leoti, Kansas and then to Scott City, Kansas in 2015.She was a member of Christ Covenant Church in Leoti, Kansas.On September 6, 1975 she married Arlan Gorden at Sacred Heart Church in Annawan, Illinois. He survives.Survivors include her Husband - Arlan Gorden of Leoti, Kansas, Three Daughters - Jennifer Thompson of Colby, Kansas, Karen &amp; Kevin Stallings of Camp Verde, Arizona, Cathy Gorden of Scott City, Kansas, Parents - Bill &amp; Eunice Rambo of Annawan, Illinois, One Brother - Bill F. Rambo of Annawan, Illinois, Two Sisters - Jackie &amp; Dick Crosby of Harvard, Illinois, Sue &amp; Bill Dierex of Annawan, Illinois, Six Grandchildren - Courtney Van Eaton of Lawrence, Kansas, Rachel Van Eaton of Colby, Kansas, Carson Van Eaton of Colby, Kansas, Erin Woody of Lexington, Nebraska, Tyler Woody of Lexington, Nebraska, Emilee Turley of Scott City, Kansas, Several Brothers-In-Law, One Sister-In-Law, and numerous Nieces &amp; Newphews.She was preceded in death by her Mother-In-Law and Two Sisters-In-Law.Memorial Services will be held at a later date and time. Sharon LaVonne Hattig, 83, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020, at Parkview Care Center, Osborne, KS.&nbsp; &nbsp; Sharon
 was born September 10, 1937, in&nbsp;North&nbsp;Loup, NE, the daughter of Howard 
and Edna (Baker) Preston.&nbsp; Sharon enjoyed several hobbies, one was 
collecting rabbits, she also loved the Nebraska Huskers and Nebraska was
 one of her favorite places to go. &nbsp;She also loved watching Cops, there 
was not a Saturday night where she was not in front of the TV doing so. 
You might of thought Sharon’s favorite color was red because she liked 
to wear the color so much, but she loved purple. A soft, light purple. 
She loved all the animals she ever had throughout her life, even a 
donkey called Dude that she fed a chocolate pudding cup too everyday. 
However, her love for her pet Pekingese Dee Dee was the greatest. &nbsp;She 
spent many hours of her life frying beef stew for Dee Dee. She believed 
in angels and knew that she would once see Dee Dee again.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Sharon
 worked at Red Field for quite some time of her life, where she made 
military night vision scopes. She would also shoot military guns and was
 known as one of the best sharp shooters around. Later in life, she 
worked as a CNA taking care of the mentally handicapped.&nbsp; She enjoyed 
spending time with them, they always listened to her and enjoyed her 
company.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband Earl, son Russell Dale&nbsp;Geter, sister Shirley Phillips, 
two brothers, Joe and Jim Preston and a grandson Randy Chad Schamp.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Sharon
 is survived by two daughters, Dovie (Randy) Schamp of Gaylord, Cindy 
(Skelly) Frank of Minneapolis; daughter-in-law Carol&nbsp;Geter of Liberty, 
MO;&nbsp;former husband Wylie Post Geter of Las Vegas;&nbsp;granddaughters 
Kristine (Rob) Wright of Aurora, CO, Desiree (Rob) Runquist of El 
Dorado, KS, Krystle (Chris) Eakin of Phillipsburg; grandsons David 
(Meghann) Geter of Kansas City, MO, Chris Geter of Kansas City, MO, 
Shane (Melissa) Schamp of Galva, KS, Kyle Schamp of Gaylord; twelve 
great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp; Cremation
 has taken place; a celebration of Sharon's life will be announced at a

Louise Neumann, age 73, of Ellis, KS 
died Monday, November 16, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Society – Ellis.&nbsp; 
She was born July 7, 1947, in Lawrence, KS to John and Loretta (Gross) 
Purdy.

Louise met and married Richard Neumann 
in 1968 in Hays, KS.&nbsp; She was a graduate of Marion High School and 
furthered her education at Ft. Hays State University, earning a master’s
 degree in education.

She was a passionate reader and enjoyed spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her children:&nbsp; Aaron
 Neumann of Ellis, KS; Brett Neumann (Sarah Taillon) of Aurora, CO; 
Grandchildren:&nbsp; Cayle, Aiden, Brady, and Olivia; and two brothers.&nbsp; She 
was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers.

Family services will be held in Ellis and she will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Mount Hope Cemetery – Ellis, KS.

 She was born July 14, 1931 in rural Penokee to Alphonso Faunce and Agatha C. (Michaelis) Henry. She was an only child.
 Rosalie was proceeded in death by her parents.
 Those left to remember her life are her many cousins and friends. 
She had such a wonderful laugh that will be missed by all who were lucky
 enough to know her.
