Elva June (Sprague) Keiswetter

Norton resident Elva June (Sprague) Keiswetter was born July 29, 1933, to Earl and Hattie (Williamson) Sprague in Norton County, KS.  June passed away at the Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit in La Crosse, KS on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the age of 87.

She grew up north and west of Almena on the family farm.  She attended grade school at a Frontier county school and graduated from Almena High School in 1951.  Following graduation, she worked in Denver until 1953.  On January 9, 1953, she married Keith Keiswetter, they lived in Hill City and Lenora, moving to Norton in 1972.  They later divorced.  She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and American Legion Auxiliary.  She was employed at the Andbe Home for 30 years in the Dietary Dept., retiring in 2003. 

She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She loved to paint, work on crafts and take handmade items to craft shows. In the past, she was an avid gardener and enjoyed taking produce to the farmer’s market.  She was a very devoted Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and KU basketball fan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Hattie Sprague, and brothers Arlo and Elden. 

June is survived by her children Deborah (Steve) Persinger of Norton, KS, Jonda Keiswetter of Hays, KS, Louis (Jana) of Norton, KS; three brothers Olin of Norton, KS, Gary of Dekalb, IL, and Lynn of Redfield, AR; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

Cremation was planned.  A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 15th in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Almena, KS, with Pastor Ron Martin officiating.
