Donna Kay Maska

Donna Kay Maska, known by family and friends as Kay, age 81, of Hays, Kansas, died Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at Hays Medical Center.  She was born November 27, 1939, in Larned, Kansas to Eual E. and Donna Mary (Wonsettler) Douglas.  She married James A. Maska on February 1, 1958, in Hays, Kansas.  He preceded her in death on  August 18, 1994.

She was a middle school teacher for over 25 years for Hays U.S.D. 489.  Kay grew up in Larned, and was a 1956 graduate of Larned High School.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Fort Hays State University.  Kay enjoyed reading, puzzles, spending time outdoors gardening, and treasured time with family and friends.   

Survivors include one son, Kirk Maska and wife, Lynn, Hays, KS; four daughters, Deb Watts and husband, Mark, Hays, KS; Lisa Winner and husband, Mark, Phoenix, AZ; Jill Kolbeck and husband, Kurt, Eastborough, KS; Suzie Burkhart and husband, Tom, Mulvane, KS; three brothers, Larry Douglas and wife, Sue, Antelope, CA; Denny Douglas and wife, Kathy, Wamego, KS; Steve Douglas, McAlester, OK; 11 grandchildren, Marcus Watts; Kylee Bombardier (Bryant); Brandon Maska (Megan); Brady Maska (Courtney); Nolan Enslinger (Alison); Sarah Mallery (Mike); Taylor Kolbeck and Tom Drake; Casey Kolbeck (Paige); Kennedy Kolbeck; Zach Burkhart and Amanda Haberman; Aubree Smith (Nolan); and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a granddaughter, Nicole Watts Robben; and a great grandson, Landry Robben.   

Private family services and burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, April 15, 2021, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.  Due to the COVID-19 restrictions masks are required during the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Hays USD 489 Foundation in care of Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.
