Curtis L. Kaiser, 59, died July 9, 2021, at his home in Newton, 
Kansas.&nbsp; He was born November 15, 1961, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son 
of Royce and Pauline (Adams) Kaiser.&nbsp; Curtis was a 1981 graduate of 
Claflin High School and then went on to graduate from the North Central 
Kansas Technical College in Beloit, Kansas.

A lifetime Claflin resident recently moving to Newton, Curtis worked 
as a mechanic for C &amp; R Auto, starting in 1985.&nbsp; He also worked in 
the family business, Kaiser Trash since 1973.&nbsp;

On June 3, 2017, he married Cynthia G. Stuhlmiller at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Claflin, Kansas.

He is survived by; his wife, Cynthia Kaiser of the home; three 
children, Ashley Schauf and husband Brian of Hays, Aaron Kaiser and wife
 Kendra of Claflin, and Casey Webber and husband Catlin of Wilson; 
stepchildren, Corrine Guglemeyer and husband Jared of Lakin, Vickie Kern
 and husband Aaron of Newton, Jean Winston and Seth Farrel of Nixa, 
Missouri, and James Winston and wife Karen of Taipei, Taiwan; his mother
 Pauline Kaiser of Salina, six sisters, Colletta Gisick of Salina, 
Connie Hattan and husband Al of Great Bend, Christine Morrison and 
husband Rick of Maize, Cynthia Wheeler and husband Rich of Hoisington, 
Clara Oborny of Maize, and Camille Straub and husband DeLos of Salina; 
and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Royce Kaiser, and a brother-in-law, Duane Oborny.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday and Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vigil with Knights of Columbus Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 13th, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Family will greet friends at the church starting at 6 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 
2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Claflin, Kansas, 
celebrated by Father Terrance Klein. Burial will follow in Claflin 
Cemetery.

Reenea Bryant, 64, passed away July 12, 2021, at her home in Great 
Bend. She was born August 2, 1956, at Great Bend to Chester &amp; 
Dorothy (Farmer) Bryant.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Reenea lived in Ellinwood for 25 
years and the last 19 years in Great Bend. She was the head of 
housekeeping at the Holiday Inn/Highland Manor until she retired in 
2004. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church in Great Bend and
 loved reading the bible. Her favorite saying was "One Day at a Time." 
She enjoyed working in the yard. Her grandchildren were the sunshine of 
her heart and soul.&nbsp;

Survivors include, her children, Misty Bryant of Great Bend, Ashley 
Trejo of Ellinwood, Lacey Lininger and husband Neil, Casey Hupfer, and 
Devin Hupfer all of Great Bend; and her grandchildren, Jacob Hoch, 
Dominique Hoch, Makayah Trejo, Elyssiah Trejo, Martin Trejo, Braylen 
Lininger, Jayvion Lininger, Alex Bunch, and Danasia Bunch. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Dana Hupfer; a grandson, 
Gavoyn Bunch; and two sisters, Sharon Herrman, and Shirley Wedgewood.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 
p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, 
July 15, 2021, at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Dwight Dozier

Becky Lynn Hodson, age 48, passed away July 7, 2021.&nbsp;She was born May 16, 1973, in Russell, Kan., daughter of Ronald C Boxberger and Ginger Lea Ann Boxberger. She married Eric S Hodson on Aug. 28, 1993.&nbsp;

She graduated from Russell High School, DCCC, and attended FHSU. She loved spending time with her husband Eric, and their two children, Corinna (27), and Daytona (19). She had a passion for genealogy, advocating for others, cooking, and celebrating her German heritage and hometown. Becky volunteered for Sleep in Heavenly Peace, FARE, and JDRF. She is survived by her husband, children, mother, sister (Lea), and brother (Ronnie), and preceded in death by her father.&nbsp;

David L. Krayca, age 66, of Goodland passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Goodland Regional Medical Center.&nbsp; 
 
David was born to James and Anna (Hradecky) Krayca in Sterling, Colorado
 on December 4, 1954. &nbsp;He married Sondra Krueger on June 9, 1974, in 
Goodland. The couple made their home in Goodland. &nbsp;Several years were 
spent in Hays and Russell with their return to Goodland in 1987. To this
 union, two children were born: Dustin and Matthew. 
David worked as a Deputy Sheriff at the Sherman County Sheriff 
Department as a Deputy Sheriff. &nbsp;Notably during his career there he 
delivered a baby at a local residence. He also worked in construction 
and in the oilfield. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, &nbsp;camping, TV and 
spending time with his family and friends. &nbsp;He attended VoTech after 
high school in Goodland and studied Drafting there. He enjoyed drafting 
architectural plans which were used for some construction in the area 
and he used this skill and talent drawing up accident scenes as a 
Deputy. &nbsp;Growing up on the family farm was a fond memory he spoke of 
frequently. 
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Richard, Wayne and 
James; son, Matthew; sister-in-laws, Stephanie Krueger and Eileen 
Krayca. 
He is survived by his wife, Sondra; son, Dustin of Goodland; brother, 
Ken (Glenda) Kraysha of Townsend, GA; sister Betty (Don) Engel of 
Russell, KS; granddaughter, Helaina Krayca of Sharon Springs, KS; and

Our beloved father Edward “Ed” Pete Peltz Jr. was a sports enthusiast, jack of all trades, and former service member.&nbsp; More importantly to Ed, though, he was a proud father and even prouder grandfather. On July 7th 2021, he passed away at his home in Hays, Kansas at the age of 62.&nbsp;&nbsp; Ed was born on January 15th 1959 in Denver, Colorado to Edward Sr. and Pauline (Massey) Peltz.&nbsp;

During his childhood his fondest memories included helping his dad work in the mechanics shop, leftover candies from his mom’s job at the candy factory and driving equipment on his Aunt and Uncle’s farm in Brush, CO.&nbsp; He joined the United States Army in 1977 at the age of 18 where he served and was stationed in Germany as a heavy equipment operator and in Colorado Springs for 7 years until 1983.&nbsp; He played hockey while in the military where he continued after his service for many years recreationally.&nbsp; After his military service he married Linda White July 23rd 1983, though their relationship turned out to be less permanent than either of them expected, both went on to raise exceptional children.&nbsp; They lived in Denver, Colorado where he worked his way to becoming a Master Electrician and worked in the trades until his move to Kansas.&nbsp; 

One of his favorite things to do was play hockey and after the game he would take turns spoiling each one of his kids by treating them to a burger or ice cream.&nbsp; Ed moved to Hoxie, Kansas in 2000 when he founded his own electrical contracting business and operated for more than a dozen years.&nbsp; They raised three biological daughters, three adopted daughters and one son. They went on to foster more than 12 children.&nbsp; In his spare time, he thoroughly enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos, Colorado Avalanche (but really any hockey game he could watch) and his children and grandchildren's events.&nbsp; His most enjoyed moments in life were fast cars at the track, spending time in the Rocky Mountains and spending quality time with his kids and grandkids. He is survived by his six children: Jade Baalman, Janine Myers, Jacinda Hernandez, Jonathon Peltz, Caroline Peltz, Cascada Peltz, and Catrina Peltz;&nbsp; his 7 grandchildren Iden, Tehlyn, Chloe, Kierdyn, Caleb, Rylen and Camden; Sister Deborah Maestas;&nbsp; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to an education fund for his grandchildren at Bison State Bank. Barbara J. McBride, age 78, passed away at her home in Scott City, 
Kansas on Tuesday, July 6, 2021.&nbsp; She was born on January 6, 1943 in 
Pueblo, Colorado, the daughter of Leslie Lewis and Ava Lavone Lick 
Weeks.&nbsp; A resident of Scott City, Kansas for 40 years, she was a CNA and
 Physical Therapist.

On October 14, 1961 she married Ronald McBride in Pueblo, Colorado.&nbsp; He passed away on May 13, 2011 in Scott City, Kansas.

Survivors Include her One Son - Ronald McBride of Katy, Texas, One 
Daughter - Debbie Edwards of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Five Grandchildren,
 and Three Great Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her Parents, One Son - David McBride, and One Brother - Leslie Weeks.

Private Family memorial service will be held at a later date and time.

Alice Mae Greig, 71, of Topeka, KS, formerly of Osborne, KS, &nbsp;passed 
away on Thursday, July 1, 2020. &nbsp;She was born on July 2, 1950 in Beloit,
 KS to Wendell &amp; Regaina "Ruth" (Sherbon) Storer. &nbsp;She was one of 
six&nbsp;children.

Alice graduated from Osborne High School in 1968. &nbsp;After graduation, 
she attended North Central Kansas Vo-tech in Beloit to&nbsp;study&nbsp;office 
management. &nbsp;She spent most of her life in Osborne, Kansas.

Alice worked many different jobs all through her working years. &nbsp;One 
of her first jobs was at Jack's Drive Inn. &nbsp;It was during this time she 
met the love of her life, Dean Greig. &nbsp;Alice married Dean Greig on July 
27th, 1969 in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;From this union, 2 children were born.

Alice was active in the family business of farming. &nbsp;She kept the 
books as well as every other aspect of the family farm. &nbsp;She also worked
 for 25 years as the office manager of the Osborne County Health 
Department. &nbsp;Alice was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church 
in Osborne.

After Alice retired in 2013, Dean &amp; Alice moved to Topeka, KS to 
be closer to the grandchildren. &nbsp;Spending time with her family was 
Alice's greatest enjoyment in her life.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dean.

Alice is survived by her sons: Alex&nbsp;(Stacey) of Topeka; Bryan 
(Kristin) of Topeka; grandchildren: Lawson, Marcus, Addison, Reagan 
and&nbsp;Alessa, all of Topeka, Kansas.

away on Thursday, July 1, 2020. &nbsp;She was born on July 2, 1950 in Beloit,
 KS to Wendell &amp; Regaina "Ruth" (Sherbon) Storer. &nbsp;She was one of 
six&nbsp;children.Alice graduated from Osborne High School in 1968. &nbsp;After graduation, 
she attended North Central Kansas Vo-tech in Beloit to&nbsp;study&nbsp;office 
management. &nbsp;She spent most of her life in Osborne, Kansas.Alice worked many different jobs all through her working years. &nbsp;One 
of her first jobs was at Jack's Drive Inn. &nbsp;It was during this time she 
met the love of her life, Dean Greig. &nbsp;Alice married Dean Greig on July 
27th, 1969 in Osborne, KS. &nbsp;From this union, 2 children were born.Alice was active in the family business of farming. &nbsp;She kept the 
books as well as every other aspect of the family farm. &nbsp;She also worked
 for 25 years as the office manager of the Osborne County Health 
Department. &nbsp;Alice was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church 
in Osborne.After Alice retired in 2013, Dean &amp; Alice moved to Topeka, KS to 
be closer to the grandchildren. &nbsp;Spending time with her family was 
Alice's greatest enjoyment in her life.Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dean.Alice is survived by her sons: Alex&nbsp;(Stacey) of Topeka; Bryan 
(Kristin) of Topeka; grandchildren: Lawson, Marcus, Addison, Reagan

Alice Mae Greig

Melba Jean Stos, 90, passed away July 8, 2021, at Hays Medical 
Center. She was born November 14, 1930, in Olmitz to George &amp; 
Augusta (Springer) Nordman. She married Leo Stos, Sr. September 8, 1948,
 in Olmitz. He died December 16, 1995.

A lifetime Barton county resident, Melba worked for Superior Essex as
 a twinner operator and farmed along with her husband in the Otis area. 
Never having idle hands, she was also a caregiver and house cleaner.&nbsp; 
&nbsp;Having a great deal of pride, Melba kept her own home spotless, as 
well, which was a trait that was carried on and taught to many.&nbsp; She 
never knew a stranger, and her home was always open. Melba was a member 
of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society 
and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and
 friends, especially for her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Aggie Lang of Salina, Shari Miller 
and husband Maynard of Great Bend, Lou Ann Legleiter and her husband 
Norman of Liebenthal, Betty Miller, Leo Stos, Jr. and Charlotte, Gene 
Stos and wife Kristi and Steve Stos all of Great Bend; a brother, 
Maurice Nordman of Great Bend; two sisters, Norma Knight of Wichita and 
Margie Purdy of LaCrosse; Fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great 
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her 
husband, Leo Stos, Sr.; a son in law, Fritz Lang; a daughter in law, 
Mona Stos; a sister, Alice Oborny.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, July 11, 2021
 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m., with 
family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Rosary to follow at
 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, July 12, 
2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Father Prakash Kola, MSFS presiding.

Claflin High School and then went on to graduate from the North Central 
Kansas Technical College in Beloit, Kansas.A lifetime Claflin resident recently moving to Newton, Curtis worked 
as a mechanic for C &amp; R Auto, starting in 1985.&nbsp; He also worked in 
the family business, Kaiser Trash since 1973.&nbsp;On June 3, 2017, he married Cynthia G. Stuhlmiller at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, in Claflin, Kansas.He is survived by; his wife, Cynthia Kaiser of the home; three 
children, Ashley Schauf and husband Brian of Hays, Aaron Kaiser and wife
 Kendra of Claflin, and Casey Webber and husband Catlin of Wilson; 
stepchildren, Corrine Guglemeyer and husband Jared of Lakin, Vickie Kern

Mona Jean Hamel, 92, Hays, died Friday, July 9, 2021, at Via Christi Village.

She was born December 7, 1928, in 
Zurich, Kansas, the daughter of Phil and Nelda (Thyfault) Mongeau.&nbsp; Mona
 was a graduate of Palco High School.&nbsp; On June 1, 1948, she was united in
 marriage to Jasper Joseph “Jack” Hamel at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in 
Zurich, and they celebrated 72 years of marriage before he preceded her 
in death on October 7, 2020.&nbsp; Mona was a housewife. Her memberships 
included St. Ann’s Parish in Zurich, St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic 
Church in Hays, the USD 269 School Board, Rooks County Fair Board, and 
the Rooks County Extension Homemaker Unit. &nbsp;She enjoyed sewing, 
gardening, cooking, and crafts.

Survivors include two sons: Dan Hamel 
and wife Lori of Wichita and David Hamel and wife Anjanette of Hays, 
four daughters: Sheryl Rempe and husband Francis, Mary Rempe and husband
 Walter, and Carol Mendoza and husband Robert, all of Wichita, and Pam 
Mayers and husband Stan of Hays, a sister: Delores Meyers of Plainville,
 two sisters-in-law: Ida Mae Lesage of Hays and Antoinette Hamel of Hill

Mary Staab, 101, Hays, died Saturday, July 10, 2021 at her home.

She was born May 3, 1920 in Walker, 
Kansas, the daughter of Peter P. and Catherine (Dreiling) Braun.&nbsp; On 
September 27, 1948 she was united in marriage to Isidore “Issy” Staab at
 St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Walker.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on 
September 26, 1984.&nbsp; Mary was a homemaker and a sales clerk at Wiesner’s
 Department Store from 1944 until 1950.&nbsp; She was a member of Immaculate 
Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254,
 earning her 50-year pin this year.&nbsp; For many years she was a perpetual 
adorer and was a former member of the National Association of Retired 
Federal Employees.&nbsp; Mary enjoyed cooking, housekeeping, and gardening.

Survivors include her son: Leon Staab of Hays and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
husband Issy, four brothers: Aquilin, Anselm “Lefty”, Peter L., and 
Kilian Braun, three infant brothers: Otto, Joseph, and Gilbert Braun, 
and four sisters: Salome Braun, Margaret Braun, Fina Staab, and Regina 
Manik.

Mary Staab

Phillipsburg resident Burnell M. Goll passed away Wednesday, January 6th, 2021, at the Phillips County Retirement Center, in Phillipsburg, Kansas, at the age of 91.

He was born at home on June 24, 1929, in Otis, Colorado, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Grauerholz) Goll.&nbsp; Burnell
 was baptized on May 18, 1930, at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Blue
 Hill, Nebraska.&nbsp; On April 18, 1943, he was confirmed. 

Burnell attended a one room schoolhouse from grade 1-8.&nbsp; He 
played basketball and football during his high school days and graduated
 from Blue Hill High School on May 16, 1946, as Valedictorian. He farmed
 until enlisting in the United States Navy on December 3, 1950.&nbsp; On 
January 4, 1951, (70 Years ago) Burnell began active duty as Engineman 
Second Class on the USS Rockbridge APA 228. He was Honorably Discharged 
on November 26, 1954.&nbsp; 

He farmed and lived in Kensington after returning from the 
service.&nbsp; Burnell could fix just about anything from putting Jeeps and 
Trucks together to inventing items when he needed something.&nbsp; His Aunt 
Mary offered his services to Evelyn “Bum” Madison Dressel when her purse
 broke.&nbsp; He returned it, and for payment received a date with Bum to the
 movie.&nbsp; Burnell was united in marriage to Bum on August 18, 1955, in 
front of the parsonage in Kensington, Kansas.&nbsp; 

Burnell continued farming and drove a semi truck. He and Bum 
moved to Pueblo, Colorado, for him to attend Telegraph school for the 
Union Railroad.&nbsp; They were blessed with a son, Micheal Elwin, on March 
11, 1957.&nbsp; The family moved back to Kensington. He worked for the Rock 
Island Railroad and Kensington Lumber Yard until Burnell began 
employment on August 26, 1957, with the CRA Refinery in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; 

On May 13, 1959, their daughter, Michela Jean, was born in 
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Burnell worked in the Warehouse for Farmland Industries 
until October 15, 1982, when he was transferred to the Coffeyville 
Refinery for one year.&nbsp; He returned to Coffeyville Resources in 
Phillipsburg and Burnell “SeaDaddy” retired on June 26, 1991, after 34 
years.&nbsp; Burnell and his family were faithful members of Zion Lutheran 
Church in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; 

Burnell loved watching Mike and Mick’s games whether playing 
or coaching, tinkering in his garage, sitting on the front porch with 
his Sweetie waving at EVERYONE that passed by, telling hunting &amp; 
Navy stories, camping &amp; fishing, CO &amp; WY Hunting trips, coaching
 and umpiring girls’ softball, playing slow pitch softball . . .&nbsp; 
Burnell worked hard and loved the simple life he created for his 
family.&nbsp; He will be dearly miss by many whose lives he touched.&nbsp; He 
never knew a stranger and helped out anyone that asked.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Evelyn “Bum”
 of Phillipsburg; a son Micheal and wife Brenda of Salina, KS; a 
daughter Michela Hiesterman and husband Joel of Phillipsburg; his 
brother Lawrence and wife Kay of Blue Hill, NE; 3 grandchildren Chandler
 Brass and wife Carissa of Stockton, KS, Spencer Brass of Los Angeles, 
CA, and Connor Brass and wife Mary Claire of Kansas City, MO; a great 
granddaughter Brooklyn Elizabeth Brass of Stockton; sister-in-law Carrie
 “Nette” Philbrick of Sidney, NE; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Lizzie; sisters Myrnah Ratliff and husband Eldon and Naomi Siebrass and husband Don; sister-in-law Kathleen “Kassie”&nbsp;Bronson and husband Walter “Fat”; and brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” Philbrick

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later time.

Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.&nbsp; The family has requested no flowers or plants please.

employment on August 26, 1957, with the CRA Refinery in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; On May 13, 1959, their daughter, Michela Jean, was born in 
Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Burnell worked in the Warehouse for Farmland Industries 
until October 15, 1982, when he was transferred to the Coffeyville 
Refinery for one year.&nbsp; He returned to Coffeyville Resources in 
Phillipsburg and Burnell “SeaDaddy” retired on June 26, 1991, after 34 
years.&nbsp; Burnell and his family were faithful members of Zion Lutheran 
Church in Phillipsburg.&nbsp; Burnell loved watching Mike and Mick’s games whether playing 
or coaching, tinkering in his garage, sitting on the front porch with 
his Sweetie waving at EVERYONE that passed by, telling hunting &amp; 
Navy stories, camping &amp; fishing, CO &amp; WY Hunting trips, coaching
 and umpiring girls’ softball, playing slow pitch softball . . .&nbsp; 
Burnell worked hard and loved the simple life he created for his 
family.&nbsp; He will be dearly miss by many whose lives he touched.&nbsp; He 
never knew a stranger and helped out anyone that asked.Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Evelyn “Bum”
 of Phillipsburg; a son Micheal and wife Brenda of Salina, KS; a 
daughter Michela Hiesterman and husband Joel of Phillipsburg; his 
brother Lawrence and wife Kay of Blue Hill, NE; 3 grandchildren Chandler
 Brass and wife Carissa of Stockton, KS, Spencer Brass of Los Angeles, 
CA, and Connor Brass and wife Mary Claire of Kansas City, MO; a great 
granddaughter Brooklyn Elizabeth Brass of Stockton; sister-in-law Carrie
 “Nette” Philbrick of Sidney, NE; along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Lizzie; sisters Myrnah Ratliff and husband Eldon and Naomi Siebrass and husband Don; sister-in-law Kathleen “Kassie”&nbsp;Bronson and husband Walter “Fat”; and brother-in-law Charles “Chuck” PhilbrickCremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be held at a later time.Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church.&nbsp; The family has requested no flowers or plants please.

Gerald "Jerry" Joseph Hutfles of Colby, age 93, passed away July 9, 2021,&nbsp; at the Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby. He was born on January 
30, 1928, at his family home in Herndon, KS to Frank and Mary Hutfles. As
 a young man, he farmed and raised cattle. Jerry loved to work with his
 hands; building, masonry and carpentry. In his free time, he played 
baseball on the Herndon team. 
Following his High School graduation, Jerry served in the US Army during
 the Korean Conflict. After his military discharge, he met married 
Darline Arnold. They were married for 63 years and have nine children. 
Jerry worked at several different jobs before starting his own business,
 Hutfles Excavation. For many years he was involved in municipal, 
commercial and residential projects throughout the Colby area. 
Jerry never really retired, but in later years changed hats, 
occasionally helping his sons on their projects and managing his rental 
properties. He was known for his abundant vegetable garden, and sharing
 it with others. He was a patriotic veteran who loved his family, 
music, dancing, watching sports, and eating sweet desserts. Jerry was a
 life-long learner and an observer of nature. He was best known for his
 compassion and generosity to others. 
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary, wife 
Darline, son-in-law Rob Boardman, brothers Arnold Hutfles, Eugene 
Hutfles, and Roger Hutfles, and sister Sylvia Sattler. 
He is survived by children: Mary (Rick) of Helena, MT; Bob (Patty) of 
Dillon, MT; Ron (Dena) Hutfles of Salina, KS; Tim (Amy) of Colby, KS; 
Gerrianne (Alan) Bray of Calgary, Canada; Annette Boardman of Topeka, 
KS; Jackie (Roger) McAsey of Holton, KS; Richard (Amy) Hutfles of Kechi,
 KS; and Larry (Cindy) of Wichita, KS; four siblings: Alvin Hutfles, 
Larned, KS; Marge Mowry, Colby, KS; Marilyn Weisphal, Atwood, KS; Angela
 (Dick) Rosebrough, Meriden, KS; 30 grandchildren, 33 great

Being born with cerebral palsy and several additional physical impairments, Mark made the most of the hand that was presented to him.&nbsp; People with "special needs" require a significant amount of time, patience, love, understanding, and acceptance.&nbsp; As time moved on, it became crystal clear that Mark gave far more than he ever needed.&nbsp; Everyone needs unconditional love.&nbsp; Mark provided this to all that knew him and interacted with him.&nbsp; This special quality will be cherished and greatly missed.&nbsp; As society evolves, it is comforting to know that we are making significant inroads for people with special needs.&nbsp; Mark enhanced our lives, and his memories will endure.

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Hoffman, 77, 
originally from Hays, Kansas, died October 2, 2020 in his sleep at his 
home in Evergreen, Colorado.

He was born August 1, 1943 at home in 
Hays, the son of John and Agnes (Carlin) Hoffman.&nbsp; He was a graduate of 
Hays High School in 1961 and a graduate of Fort Hays Kansas State 
College, earning a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1965 and an M.S. degree 
in chemistry in 1966.&nbsp; After leaving Hays, he went on to earn a Ph.D. 
degree in chemistry in 1971 from the University of Hawaii.&nbsp; On September
 4, 1971, he married Eva Jernigan in Houston, Texas.&nbsp; He is survived by 
his wife of 49 years.&nbsp; He worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the 
University of Rhode Island, as a research chemist at EPA in 
Narragansett, Rhode Island, and for the U.S. Geological Survey in the 
Denver, Colorado area.&nbsp;

While in high school he worked several 
jobs; doing maintenance work on a motel near the airport, at a bakery 
shop, and at a gas station.&nbsp; He was a frequent visitor to the old Hays 
Public Library and ran track.&nbsp; While in college, he worked at the KSU 
Experiment Station and was well known for dropping in on his sisters at 
supper time.&nbsp; They figured out easily.&nbsp; He wasn’t exactly subtle.&nbsp; 
Although he worked hard, he also played hard.&nbsp; His first love was an old
 car, which he souped up.&nbsp; He and his brother Larry built themselves a 
boat in the Hays High shop.&nbsp; Then they and a cousin, Gary Feltis, took 
the boat out to cruise on Big Creek.&nbsp; Jerry was also a founding father 
of the high school fraternity known as the ‘Old Codgers’.&nbsp; Their secret 
greeting, not much of a secret, was a pounding on the chest with a 
cough.&nbsp; It was their sarcastic answer to the ‘Young Turks’, a clique of 
jocks.&nbsp; By the time they graduated, the ‘Old Codgers’ had risen to 
prominence, the hippest of the hip.&nbsp;

Jerry was determined to continue his 
education, but the local draft board had a completely different plan in 
mind.&nbsp; They classified Jerry 1A even though he had several graduate 
school offers.&nbsp; Jerry appealed the decision to the state board and they 
ruled in Jerry’s favor, overruling the local board.&nbsp; This did not go 
over well.&nbsp; For years afterwards, the local draft board would send Jerry
 an annual letter.&nbsp; First, they accused Jerry of fleeing the United 
States by going to the University of Hawaii.&nbsp; By this time, Hawaii had 
been a state for several years.&nbsp; Then, they wanted him to tell them what
 made his education special.&nbsp; It seemed that every year, professors at 
the university would write letters on his behalf.&nbsp; Although he had 
obvious intellectual capacity and was serious about science, he was 
well-rounded, well-read, and could get along with most everyone.&nbsp; He 
looked at life with a sense of humor.

There will be no funeral service.&nbsp; 
Instead, Jerry’s family and friends are hosting a picnic with fried 
chicken and the fixings from 12:00 noon until 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 
17, 2021 at East Frontier Park in Hays.&nbsp; Just bring your favorite Jerry 
stories.&nbsp; Jerry will be there in spirit because he lives in our hearts

Wilbert “Bud” Wittman Jr., 77, passed away on July 8, 2021, at the 
Cedar Village Care Center in Ness City, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born on November
 22, 1943, in Melbourne, Australia, the son of Wilbert and Nellie (Tite) 
Wittman.

Bud was a proud US Marine, a Fredericksburg Police Officer and later 
in life retired as a truck driver at McLane Distribution Center. He was a
 member of the Olin Cole Post No. 392 in Bazine. He was also a member of
 the Fredericksburg Eagle’s Club Aerie 4133. He married Dianne Sacrey on
 May 16, 1981, in Hartwood, Virginia. She died on February 23, 2019.

Survivors include a son, Chip Klock (Kimberly)&nbsp; of Fredericksburg, 
VA; 4 daughters, Teresa&nbsp; Janda (Mike) of McPherson, Lori&nbsp; Klock (Mark), 
Heather Thompson (Carey), Amanda Henson (Joshua) all of Fredericksburg, 
VA; 2 brothers, James Wittman (Brenda) of Tyler, TX, David Wittman 
(Malinda) of Alvin, TX; sister, Kathy Lawson (Allen) of Bazine; 16 
grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by 
his parents, his wife and best friend, Dianne, brother, Dan, and 2

Carolyn Meier Denchfield, age 85, passed away July 4, 2021, at the Logan
 County Senior Living Center. She was born Carolyn Weigel, to Wilhelmina
 Weigel, in Chicago, Illinois, on January 27, 1936. Her mother passed 
away in March of 1943. Carolyn was then adopted by Wendle and Josephine
 Knoll Meier, of Holcomb, Kansas, in April 1944. Although she was an 
only child, she was surrounded by numerous cousins from the Meier and 
Knoll families. 
She lived on a farm near Holcomb and attended school there until the 
middle of 7th grade when they moved to Garden City. She completed 7th 
and 8th grade at St. Mary's Parochial School. When she was in the 9th 
grade, her English class presented a Christmas play, "No Room at the 
Inn" and that is where she first met Keith Denchfield. He played the 
part of Joseph and she played the part of Mary. She knew Keith during 
high school, but they never dated. She graduated from Garden City High 
School with the class of 1953. 
After graduation she worked as a store clerk at Ideal Foods and then as a
 bank teller at Garden National Bank. In December of 1956 Keith was 
home for Christmas vacation. He came into the bank and asked her to 
attend a class reunion their class was having. She agreed and they 
continued dating and were married September 1, 1957. They welcomed Mark 
in 1959, Jeffrey in 1962 and Wendy in 1964. 
Keith joined the Kansas Highway Patrol in 1962 and was assigned to 
various locations in northwest Kansas, finally ending up in WaKeeney in 
1966. Carolyn went to work for the Ralph Clark Law Firm. Upon Ralph's 
retirement, she went to work for the Probate Judge. During her time with
 the judge, the court system unified, and she became the Deputy Clerk of
 the District Court working for Cora Hladek. She was appointed the Clerk
 of the District Court of Trego County February 1983, where she remained
 until her retirement in September 2001. 
Carolyn was a lifetime member of the Gamma Eta Sorority, with 57 years 
of service, a 50 year member of Christ the King Catholic Church, 
WaKeeney and most recently, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 
Oakley. She enjoyed reading and scrapbooking, but her greatest joy was 
being ‘Grammy’ to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During 
their retirement years Keith and Carolyn traveled around the country to 
visit family and friends. They also enjoyed many adventures with the 
class of 1953. She was an amazing daughter, wife, mom, grammy and 
friend and will be missed dearly. 
Survivors include her husband, Keith, of Oakley; sons, Mark Denchfield 
and wife Pauline, of Hutchinson and Jeffrey Denchfield and wife Sherry, 
of Greenwood Village, Colorado; daughter Wendy Glassman and husband 
David, of Oakley; four grandchildren, who were her joy, Allison 
Glassman, Ethan Glassman, Derek Glassman and wife Sadie and Cole 
Denchfield and three great-granddaughters, who she was blessed to be 
near, Ronnie Josephine, Hattie Rose, and Evie Lyn. 
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Wilhelmina Weigel; her 
parents, Wendle and Josephine Meier; grandparents, John and Elizabeth 
Meier and Adam and Eva Knoll and father and mother-In-Law Ray and 
Mildred Denchfield. 
Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2021, at Baalmann Mortuary, 
Oakley, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 
a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oakley, 
with burial in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial 
contributions are suggested to St Joseph Catholic School, sent in care

Carolyn Denchfield (Meier)

Timothy Wayne “Tim” Johnson, 48, of Salina, Kansas, passed away July 6, 2021 at his home, after a prolonged illness. He was born January 22, 1973, in Ft. Carson, Colorado, the son of Walter E. Johnson and Carol A. Henry. 

Tim graduated from Lyons High School, Lyons, Kansas, with the class of 1992; and later received his ASE Certification from Hutchinson Community College. He has resided in Salina since 2008, formerly of Hoisington and Lyons. Tim worked as a painter for Cessna, Spirit, and Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, and at Hodges Body Shop in Lyons. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and most of all spending time with his family. 

On December 23, 2006, Tim was united in marriage with Beckie Dreiling in Hoisington. She survives of the home along with their four children, Zoie, Zylie, Zurie, and Zade; and their beloved dog, Ziggy. Tim is also survived by his mother, Carol Stewart (Mike) of Lyons; father, Walter Johnson (Chasity) of AL; and a mother to him, Denise Froehlich of Michigan; six siblings, Wally Johnson (Stephanie) of College Station, TX, Cody Luck (Jennifer) of Lyons, Neil Johnson (Jessie) of Michigan, Mandy Paterson (Keith) of Michigan, Stephanie Minix (Steve) of Lyons, and Michelle Richmond (Mark) of Rolla, MO; mother-in-law, Sharon Dreiling of Hoisington; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Tim is going to be reunited in heaven with his father, Dennis Luck; favorite uncle, Fred Henry; and best friends, Vern and Barb Stutz. 

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 12, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with Pastor Joel Grizzle officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Sunday, July 11, 2021 at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons with family present.
