Florence Berneking, the daughter of Herman and Gertrude (Hansen) 
Origer, was born February 8, 1922, on a farm in Emmet County, Iowa.&nbsp; She 
departed this life July 21, 2021, at 99-½ years old (and don’t forget 
the ½!), at her home in Sequim, Washington.

She attended rural school in Iowa, and Gruver High School, Gruver, 
Iowa.&nbsp; She graduated from Estherville, Iowa Junior College in 1941 and 
from Ft. Hays Kansas State College in 1948.&nbsp; She loved children, 
teaching into her 70s.&nbsp;

She married Carleton Berneking in 1945 and after World War II they 
moved to Hays, Kansas, to make their home.&nbsp; Their three children, Rex, 
Ruth and Kay, were born and raised there.

Florence taught school and kept busy with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 
Sunday school teaching, and work in the women’s groups at the Methodist 
Church.&nbsp; In 1997, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, to live with her daughter,
 Kay, and her family, helping the family following the death of her 
daughter.&nbsp; In 2007 she moved to Sequim, Washington to make her home with
 her son and his family.&nbsp; She lived very close to many of her great 
grandchildren, spending time with them until her death.

Florence loved life and was active and engaged in it to the end - 
attending church, playing&nbsp;games (especially Scrabble) with her friends, 
giggling with great grandchildren and wanting to be with her family - 
traveling to visit them in the Midwest into her 90’s.

Florence is survived by a son, Rex (wife, Penny), a daughter, Ruth 
Mareda (husband, John), and son-in-law, Fulton Calvery.&nbsp; She leaves ten 
grandchildren:&nbsp; Daniel (Corrie), Rebecca, Mark (Holly), James (Sharon), 
Mary, Elizabeth (Nathan), Steven (Jessica), Samuel (Christa),&nbsp;Chaney 
(Chris) and Melanie (Carter); and twelve great grandchildren: Luke, 
Ruth, Hannah, Peter, Caleb, Zadok, Lydia, Adam, Brynlee, Lilliana, 
Bailey and Rylan.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carleton, a daughter, Kay 
Calvery, her parents, a sister, Velma, and brothers and their wives, 
Francis (Lucille), Ralph (Betty), Maurice (Peggy), and Vernon (Vera).

We are grateful for those who helped us care for Mom at home until her death.

A celebration of life service will be held August 7 at 3:00 pm at the
 Peninsula Evangelical Friends Church, 1291 N. Barr Rd., Port Angeles, 
WA.&nbsp; Cremation has taken place and the family will have a private 
graveside service at a later date.&nbsp; Remains will be buried in Green 
Mound Cemetery, Mitchell County, Kansas.&nbsp; In light of Florence’s 
enduring gratitude for all veterans, we ask that memorial contributions

Florence Berneking

Jimmy D. Brown, 74, passed away August 2, 2021, at Kansas Soldier’s Home in Dodge City.

He was born September 25, 1946, in Blanco, Texas, the son of Sim and Lila Bagby Brown.

A longtime area resident he worked as an oil field manager in 
Oklahoma and later for Good Earth Ranch in Hanston, Kansas. He was of 
the Christian faith and served the United States Navy in the Vietnam 
War. He was a member of the American Legion, Woodward, Oklahoma, the 
V.F.W, Hanston, and the N.R.A. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, and 
reloading in his spare time.

On December 15, 1988, he married Betty Dunsworth at Buffalo, Oklahoma; she survives.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Tessa Swodeck, Great Bend; two 
sons, Chris (Ashley) Swodeck, Gatesville, Texas, Eric (Kendra) Brown, 
Burdett; two sisters, Nancy Lanning, Hanston, Laura Seal, Kerrville, 
Texas; four brothers, Mike Brown, Batson, Texas, Tom Brown, Odessa, 
Texas, Joe Brown, Hanston, Charlie Brown, Sonora, Texas; nine 
grandchildren: Cierra, Dawson, Logan, Canyon, Sean, Cedar, Cadence, 
Chandler, Mackenlie; and two great grandchildren, Evalena and Dahlyla.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Linda Haynes.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the 
Baptist Church, Hanston, with Ronnie Ruff presiding. Visitation will be 
9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2021, at Beckwith Funeral Home, 
Jetmore. Burial with military graveside rites will be 3:00 p.m. 
Saturday, August 7, 2021 in Laverne, Oklahoma.

Terri Brown, 66, received her angel wings on July 24, 2021, at her 
daughter’s home in Oberlin, Kansas. Terri was born to Melvin and Betty 
(Norton) West on March 9, 1955, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Terri lived 
in the Loveland-Fort Collins area most of her childhood. She was 
surrounded by her dad, mom, and sister Cindi (West) Grafel.
 Her parents divorced and married again bringing new people into 
Terri’s life. Melvin married Nancy Reider and her two children. A 
daughter Debbie (Reider) Gray and a son Mark Reider. Betty married 
Archie Aman and his daughter Lorri (Aman) Grafel.
 Terri married Jack Brown on October 19, 1975, in Loveland, Colorado.
 To this union they had a daughter Jackie Lynn (Brown) Winder. Terri 
moved to California where Jack was stationed in the Marines. They 
returned to Colorado in December 1977. Terri was a stay-at-home mom. She
 did part time jobs here and there. She helped out wherever she could. 
She loved to crochet and color pictures. Her favorite past time was 
collecting figurines. She loved animals, angels, and crystals. 
 Terri had the spirit of adventure, she loved road trips anywhere at 
any time. Most of all she loved spending time with family and friends. 
In 1984, she moved to Kansas to be closer to her sister Cindi and her 
family. She divorced Jack and remained in Kansas to be close to her 
daughter until her passing.
 Terri was preceded in death by her dad and stepmom, Melvin and Nancy
 West, of Loveland, Colorado and mom and stepdad, Betty and Archie Aman,
 of Loveland, Colorado.
 She leaves behind her daughter, Jackie Lynn (Brown) Winder and 
husband James of Oberlin, Kansas; sisters: Cindi (West) Grafel and 
husband Kyle of Herndon, Kansas, Lorri (Aman) Grafel and husband Kent of
 Culbertson, Nebraska, Debbie (Reider) Gray and husband Mike of Montana;

Kiana Danell Adams, 25, of Stockton, Kansas, died on Saturday, July 24, 2021, at her home.

Kiana was born on August 25, 1995, in Lawton, Oklahoma, the daughter 
of Liria (Herman) Adams.&nbsp; She grew up in Hays, Kansas, and graduated 
from Larned High School in Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; She met her fiancée Brett 
Kreutzer and from this union they were blessed with two children Brodie 
and Brynlie Kreutzer.&nbsp; She worked as a fulltime homemaker taking care of
 her growing family.&nbsp; She enjoyed making crafts with her children, 
music, and everything outdoors. She loved fishing, and was an excellent 
marksman.

Proud of her heritage, Kiana was a member of the Cherokee Nation Native American Tribe.

Surviving family include her mother Liria Adams of Catherine, Kansas,
 fiancée Brett Kreutzer, son Brodie J. Kreutzer and Brynlie N. Kreutzer 
all of the home; brothers Kelby Price of Hays, Kansas and Jerod Price of
 Tulsa, Oklahoma and sister Briana Adams of Ft. Worth, Texas. Cremation 
has been selected by the family and a private memorial service will be 
held at a later date.&nbsp;

Cody Joseph Johnson, 35, of Hays, KS died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on August 2,&nbsp;2021, near Hill City, KS.

Cody was born March 21, 1986, in Hays, KS to Kriag Johnson and Jackie Jacobs Eakin.&nbsp; He attended and graduated from Hays High School – class of 2004.

He was a friend to all he encountered, and enjoyed time with his family throwing darts, playing pool, and cheering on the Detroit Red Wings.&nbsp; He also enjoyed anything with two wheels, especially motorcycles.

He is survived by his daughter Emry of Hays; mother and stepfather Jackie (Shannon) Eakin of Hays; sister Cassie Johnson of Ellis; grandmas Darlene Rogers of Hays and Kay VanHouteghen of Waterford, MI; grandpa Joe Jacobs of Dodge City; and many cherished aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father Kraig; and grandpa Charlie Rogers.

Cody Joseph Johnson

Robert E. Boxley Sr. of Lakeland, Florida passed away Sunday, April 
25, 2021. He was born June 5, 1933, in Tribune, Kansas to Clifford and 
Viola Cogdill Boxley.

Robert was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during the 
Korean War. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Knights of 
Columbus, and the Catholic War Veterans. Robert loved spending time with
 his family. Was a devoted fan of University of Missouri football and 
basketball. Enjoyed wood carving and won several prizes at the Florida 
State Fair. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great 
grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna, children Diana and
 Bradley Tice, Mark Boxley, Marsha and Vito Vano, Robert Boxley, Jr., 4 
grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. (MT) on Friday, August 6, 
2021, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tribune, Kansas with Fr. Ben

Kay was united in marriage to Robert L. Eakins on June 12, 1965, in Concordia, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Robert.

Survivors include her son Sam Eakins and wife Brenda of Burr Oak, KS;
 brother Ken Chandler and Marta of Mankato, KS; sister Dee Engling and 
husband Mike of Phillipsburg, KS; four grandchildren: Amber, Lainie, 
Cordell, and Noah; and two great grandchildren: Keegan and Kason.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A private inurnment will take place in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Concordia, KS.

Clarice Peteete

Reta E. (Cody) Hawkins was born November 9, 1935, in Oberlin, KS, to 
George and Verna (Chapin) Cody. The youngest of seven children, she grew
 up at the Sappa State Park where her dad, George, was Park 
Superintendent. In 1949, they moved to town. Reta attended school in 
Oberlin. 
Reta met her future husband, “Shorty” Duane Hawkins, at a dance in 
Norcatur. Shorty was in the Air Force at that time. They were married on
 July 24, 1954, in Oberlin, KS. To this union, three children were born,
 Cheryl Ann, Robert Duane and Sandra Lee. 
In 1960, the couple made their home in McDonald, KS, where Shorty leased
 land from his Aunt Daisy and started farming. When the children were 
school age, Reta began helping with the farming. She drove a 730 John 
Deere with a buggy top and radio, pulling a 14 ft one way. When harvest 
time came, she drove the farm truck to the elevator. Reta also drove the
 school bus during the school year. She drove 2 generations of children 
in her over 30 years of driving. It was the best job she ever had and 
loved each and every kid, and they loved her too. 
Reta and Shorty had a lot of adventures together, from owning and 
operating semi’s, owning a bar and running a gas station, to racing 
stock cars, hunting and fishing. They bought land in Missouri, for 
retirement, and moved there in 1978. In 1983, they moved back to western
 Kansas and built a home in McDonald. Shorty tinkered in his shop until 
he died on May 15, 2015. Reta stayed in the home until her last days. 
She passed away peacefully, in the hospital, surrounded by her family, 
on July 30, 2021. 
Reta was preceded in death by her husband Shorty; her parents, George 
and Verna Cody; three brothers, Roy Cody, Warren Cody and Elden Cody; 
two sisters, Irel Myers and Arvilla McCloud and three grandchildren, 
Michelle Hawkins, Bradley Hawkins and Jesse Hawkins. 
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Weishapl, of St. Francis, Robert
 Hawkins, of St. Francis, and Sandra Lee, of McDonald, KS; 
grandchildren, J.D. Hawkins, Rex Weishapl and wife Emily, and Alexis 
Weishapl; great grandchildren, Chase Hawkins, Xavier Weishapl, Elina 
Weishapl and Iris Weishapl and one sister, Gara Lee Sprague. She will be
 deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. 
Visitation is from 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at Baalmann

Lola Mae Griffin (Parsons)

Lawrence J. “Larry” LaBarge, 79, Topeka, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021. 
 Larry was born February 3, 1942, in Damar, Kansas, the son of Leonard 
and Caroline Newall LaBarge. He graduated from Damar High School and 
Fort Hays State University earning three degrees in education. Larry 
taught Spanish, English and Latin and spoke French and Italian. He also 
served as a counselor and administrator. Most of his career was spent in
 western Kansas where he was named Outstanding Young Educator. He 
retired from USD 501, Topeka, where he served at Jardine School. On June 6, 1961, Larry and Joyce Dreiling were united in marriage. She survives. 
 He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Knight of Columbus 
Council No. 8411 and the James W. Gibbons Fourth Degree Assembly. 
 Larry was a very talented woodworker who made many toys for his beloved
 children and grandchildren as well as donating many for the Church’s 
fund raisers. Also surviving are Larry’s children, Monique 
Ellis, her husband, Shane, and Darin LaBarge; three grandchildren 
Madison, Maegan and Nolan LaBarge; great-grandson, Bennett Matthew; 
brother-in-law, Gerald Dreiling; and sisters-in-law, Jean Stabb and 
Shirley Bollig. Larry was preceded in death by his parents. 
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 3, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Christ 
the King Catholic Church followed by the Fourth Degree Chalice Ceremony 
and rosary led by Knight of Columbus Council No. 8411 at 10:30. Mass of 
Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at the Church. 
Inurnment will be Saturday, August 7, at 1 p.m. in Sacred Heart 
Cemetery, Plainville, Kansas. A reception will follow in the Knights of 
Columbus Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may

Donna Ann Seltmann, 73, of Lincoln, Nebraska, died on July 31, 2021, at the Journey House.

She was born on January 19, 1948, to ElVerne and Mary (Wilt) Seltmann
 of Nekoma, Kansas. She attended Pleasant Point country school, 
Alexander Grade School and graduated from Alexander High School in 1966.
 She attended Union College for a time, then worked as a Certified Nurse
 Assistant at various skilled nursing facilities including Homestead, 
Clark Jeary, Holmes Lake Manor and Eastmont.

She is survived by her siblings Shirley Opp of Lincoln, NE; Bill 
Seltmann of Nekoma, KS; Lyle Seltmann of Smyrna, TN; Terry (Cynthia) 
Seltmann of Nekoma, KS; Rita (John) Taylor of Portland, TN; Tim (Marcia)
 Seltmann of Nekoma, KS; Kerrie (Ralph) Schnell of Lincoln, NE; and many
 nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She will be remembered for her love for plants, garage sales, puzzles
 and game playing. Donna brightened up the room with her fun-loving 
spirit and love of people.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Her final resting place will be in Nekoma, Kansas, her childhood home.

Richard Lee “Dickie Lee” Weiser, 71, died peacefully at his home on 
Sunday, August 1, 2021. He was born on August 1, 1950, at Garden City the son of Jerome S. and Donna Lee (Wheatcroft) Weiser. 
Rich graduated from Dighton High School in 1968 and was drafted into the United States Army shortly after he began college at Fort Hays State University. He served as an office clerk in Thailand during the Vietnam War. After his discharge he attended Goodland Vo-Tech and continued his studies at Hutchinson Community College. On May 30, 1981, he married Linda Stremel in Dodge City. 
Rich owned and operated Dickie Lee’s Lounge &amp; Parlor from 1980 to the early 1990s. He spent the rest of his life as the owner and contractor of his Company RLW Construction. His younger brother, Robert, worked alongside Rich and his small crew for many years. In later years he also did roof inspections for Reliable Reports.

He was an avid and competitive golfer who won several tournaments throughout the state and took great pride in his two holes in one. Many will remember Rich for his passion for automobiles, especially his 1956 Ford pickup from high school and his bright, shiny Corvettes. A cribbage player and great dancer, he never knew a stranger, always enjoyed a good joke, and loved spending time with his family. 
Rich’s memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew him. 
He is preceded in death by his Parents- Jerome and Donna Weiser and Brother-Robert “Snub” Weiser.

He is survived by his Son- Nick Weiser of Dunkirk, New York, Sister- Brenda (Steve) Kuhlman of Cimarron, Former Wife- Linda Stremel of Dighton, Step-Children- Kimberly (Shane) Bell on Linwood and Kurt Cummins of Dighton, 4 Grandchildren- Wyatt and Aspen of Linwood and Max and Kendreex of Dighton.

Memorial Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 7, at St Theresa Catholic Church in Dighton. Burial will be in Dighton Memorial Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post # 190 and Kansas Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Richard Lee 'Dickie Lee' Weiser

Phyllis Lorraine (Meyer) Gugler, age 90, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Friday, July 30, 2021, in Ellis. She was born September 25, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois to Edwin and Catherine (Blesch) Meyer. On February 12, 1955, she married Loren Arthur Gugler in Chicago. He preceded her in death July 26, 2012. Phyllis was a farm wife and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary and PEO Chapter FO all in Ellis. She enjoyed Gardening, Bowling, Cross Stitching, Needlepoint and cooking Fried Chicken during Harvest. Road Junction City, KS. Pastor Ronnie Roberts will officiate. The family

attended rural schools and graduated from Dickinson County Community 
High School in Chapman, Kansas. He was a graduate of Fort Hays State 
University where he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, serving 
as Social Chairman and Commissary Steward along with being involved in 
numerous other extra curricular activities. While many farm 
parents in those days thought children were “cheaper by the dozen”, 
Larry’s parents discussed and thought that 8 children would be enough to
 help with the farm chores as almost everything that was produced on the
 farm was needed for food. Larry was a kind, obedient and cheerful son 
and brother who was always proud to talk about being a farm boy and his 
careers that followed. He started driving a Ford tractor at age 6 to 
help pick up hay bales and that was just the beginning of working their 
family farm and helping numerous neighbors. At age 16, Larry was 
employed for the State of Kansas Highway Department in Junction City 
where he worked for two summers. Following his graduation from 
High School, not yet 18, Larry walked into Wilson and Company Engineers 
and Architects in Salina, Kansas and asked to speak with the President 
of the company. He was obliged and started work there one year later 
doing drawings for the Saudi Arabian Government Highway project. Due to 
his performance there, he never had to ask for another professional job!
 As word traveled, Larry eventually moved to Waterloo, Iowa and taught 
Commercial Art at Hawkeye Institute of Technology for almost 30 years. 
Larry also had his own studio and did all aspects of Advertising Art and
 Design. He was devoted to his family and as his children became
 older he served as President of the Parent Teacher Organization. Larry
 often said his proudest moments were raising his family and watching 
his students become successful. Larry enjoyed fishing and was an 
avid bowler, bowling for 60 years with one perfect 300 game. Larry was 
added to the Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a junior bowling coach and got
 to meet Hall of Fame professional bowler, Dick Weber, for raising money
 for the Boys &amp; Girls Clubs of America. Larry was an advisor for 
the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America and served on a number of 
charitable organizations and events. Larry was also proud to have served
 as a Scout Master for eight years. He loved working with young 
children. As you know, in those days only the Good Lord knew 
whether a child to be born was a boy or a girl. As Larry’s dad was 
working on the farm making noise in March, 1942, the Good Lord came to 
him and asked what kind of ears he wanted for his son. Because of the 
noise, his dad thought he said “What kind of beers do you want” to which
 he replied, “two big ones”. On June 30, 1942, with his mother 45 
years old, Larry was born on the kitchen table in the old farm house 
with the help of a mid-wife, but there were complications. Dr. Butcher,
 who was the doctor in Wakefield came to the house and discussed with 
the mid-wife the situation. They could not determine whether the 
problems were related to his mother’s age, being born on the kitchen 
table or if it might be because of his “big ears”. After 2 months of 
careful treatment the Doctor told his mother that it looked like 
everything was going to be fine. His mother replied “Thank you Lord” to 
which Larry’s big ears heard that response. As he grew older, Larry 
began to read and research and found what his mother actually said was 
“Amen Lord”. Larry studied about a seminary student who was working on 
his Doctorate Degree. On his thesis he asked what the definition of Amen
 was and found that only about 30% of people who say Amen actually know

Roch Alan Miller, 66, passed away at his home August 1, 2021, 
surrounded by much of his family in his final days. Roch was born in 
Great Bend to Cy and Fran (Muth) Miller and lived most of his life in 
Barton County.

Roch was a United States Marine, lifetime oilfield worker and lake 
enthusiast all his life. He was loved by his family and friends for who 
he felt the same and gave his all to make sure they all knew he would 
help them in any way possible. His faith was solid in Christ and he 
looked forward to seeing his son, Rochy in heaven along with so many 
others.

Roch is survived by his loving wife, Cori of Ellinwood; a daughter, 
Tammy Dean of Galveston, TX; a brother, Don (Wendy) Miller of 
Hutchinson; a sister, Monica (Barry) Bowers of Great Bend; a daughter in
 law, Renee Miller of Great Bend; his grandchildren, Kaleb, Aerieana, 
Elijah, Brynn, Daegan and Cambrie; and nieces and nephews. He was 
preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roch Miller II; and his 
brothers, Tim Miller and Mick Miller.

Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends from 5:00 
to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home. A 
Celebration of Roch’s Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 
7, 2021, at Wilson Lake Tatanka Lodge-The Church, with Military Rites

Village Memory Care in Round Rock, Tex. She was born November 28, 1933, 
at Albert, Kan. to Orville &amp; Rachel (Lebsack) Hays. She married 
Merle Drehle on January 14, 1961, at Great Bend, Kan.&nbsp; He died September
 15, 1990.

Patricia was a claims secretary at Farm Bureau Financial Services in 
Great Bend. In 1997 she moved away from Great Bend and relocated in 
Harlingen, Tex., before moving to Round Rock, Tex. in 2013. She was a 
member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend, and St. Paul Lutheran 
Church in Harlingen. She always volunteered at church. She especially 
loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, a daughter, Susan Uribe and husband Eddie of Round
 Rock, Tex.; a brother, Charles Hays and wife Jennifer of Cordillera, 
Colo.; and a grandson, Adam Uribe of Dallas, Tex. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; her husband, Merle Drehle; and two sisters, Carol 
Mills and Sandra Horn.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Private 
Family Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Great Bend

Gregory Keith Chambers, age 56, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 
his home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on December 19, 1964, to 
James and Shirley Ziegler Chambers. He was a new resident of the 
community and worked in the oil fields.

Gregory was a member of the Catholic faith.

Gregory was married to Angi Sanders. She passed away in May of 2015.

Survivors include his parents, his son Keith Charles Chambers &amp; 
Jennifer of Cheyenne, Wyoming, his daughter Kaitlin Rose Chambers of

was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington, 
Kansas. &nbsp;She married Thomas Reynolds on November 29, 1959, in 
Philipsburg, Kansas. &nbsp;She received her nurse's aide certificate in 1968 
and was employed at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, 
Kansas. &nbsp;She lived most of her life in Smith Center and Osborne, Kansas.
 &nbsp;On November 24, 2014, she moved to Bethany Home in Lindsborg, Kansas, 
along with her cat, Blackie, where she resided until her death.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, sister and 
brother-in-law, Delores and Bill VanWey of Red Cloud, Nebraska, 
brother-in-law Jim Jones of Wood Village, Oregon, and sister-in-law 
Barbara Krein of Connell, Washington. &nbsp;

Donald G. Boos passed away July 30, 2021, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was born in Hays, Kansas on September 2, 1930 to John and Catherine (Boos) Boos. The family moved to Topeka in 1942 where Don attended Hayden High School.&nbsp; He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1954.&nbsp; Following his Naval service, he returned to Topeka to study at Washburn University.&nbsp;

On January 28, 1956 he married the love of his life, Joan Marie Krische, with whom he would spend the rest of his life.&nbsp;

Don spent his career in and around the grocery and real estate businesses, primarily with the Fleming Company, in several cities, where he was Store Development Manager. He was an extremely loyal employee always looking out for the company’s interests. He loved working with people and the real estate community loved working with Don. As much as he loved his work, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, his wife, his four sons and their families.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Don was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he served on the Parish Finance Council for 15 years. Don was involved in his community serving as a member of the Olathe Planning Commission for six years, with one year as Chairman.&nbsp; He was a Precinct Committeeman and was active within the Olathe Republican Party.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Wanda Jean (Boos) Guth, daughter-in-law, Gina Marie (Ross) Boos, and grandson, Vincent Edward Boos.&nbsp;

Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan, his sister, Frieda (Boos) Schmidtlein of Topeka, KS, sons, John (Rochelle) Boos, Ron (Jill) Boos, David Boos, all of Olathe, and Don (Cathy) Boos of Salina, KS, along with seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.&nbsp;

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Davita Dialysis Center, the staff and doctors at Olathe Medical Center, with special thanks to their Critical Care nursing staff.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 11:00AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren St., Topeka, KS.&nbsp; A Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 10:30 a.m. prior to the mass.&nbsp; Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka, KS following Mass.

 </figure>Donald G. Boos passed away July 30, 2021, at Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kansas.&nbsp;He was born in Hays, Kansas on September 2, 1930 to John and Catherine (Boos) Boos. The family moved to Topeka in 1942 where Don attended Hayden High School.&nbsp; He proudly served in the United States Navy from 1951 until 1954.&nbsp; Following his Naval service, he returned to Topeka to study at Washburn University.&nbsp;On January 28, 1956 he married the love of his life, Joan Marie Krische, with whom he would spend the rest of his life.&nbsp;Don spent his career in and around the grocery and real estate businesses, primarily with the Fleming Company, in several cities, where he was Store Development Manager. He was an extremely loyal employee always looking out for the company’s interests. He loved working with people and the real estate community loved working with Don. As much as he loved his work, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, his wife, his four sons and their families.&nbsp;&nbsp;Don was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and he served on the Parish Finance Council for 15 years. Dianne L. Merz, 74, passed away at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, CO on July 25, 2021.

Dianne was born on September 9, 1946, in Goodland, KS to Lyman and Virgiline (Duell) Amos.&nbsp; Dianne attended and Graduated Goodland High School with a diploma in 1964. Dianne then went to Fort Hays for 3 years then continued her education in Washburn, KS where she got her Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1969.&nbsp; On June 26th, 1966 Dianne married Doyl Merz at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. The couple adopted two sons when they were newborns Steven in 1973 and Kevin Merz in 1975.

Dianne started her teaching career in 1969 and continued teaching for 30 years in the Lawrence, KS school district. Dianne retired in 2008 to come back to Goodland, KS to take care of her elderly mother.&nbsp; Dianna’s passion was her family, Dianne learned to fly and had her pilots license where she would fly mostly in Eastern Kansas. Dianne also started a T-Shirt business with aviation designs. Dianne enjoyed her flower garden, silk screening, cake decorating, Stain glass, and reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents and Grandparents.

Surviving family includes her husband Doyl Merz, her two sons Steven (Melissa) Merz of Springfield, MO, Kevin Merz of Lawrence, KS. One grandchild Robert Merz of Lawrence, KS. Brothers&nbsp; Ron (Kathy) Amos of Mound City, MO, Dan (Karen) Amos of Nixi, MO. Sister Linda (Walt) Linthacum of Goodland, KS.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Young Won officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Agra resident Lora A. Dettmer passed away August 1, 2021, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 97.

Survivors include her sons: Craig &amp; wife Janet, Brian &amp; wife 
Linda of Kensington &amp; Van &amp; wife Carla of Agra; her 
sister-in-law Irma Brandt; 5 grandchildren &amp; 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 5, at 10:30 a.m. in the 
St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, with Pastor Lorna Paulus 
officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve 
Memorial Chapel Facebook page. Burial will follow in the church 
cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Tues. &amp; 9:00 to 9:00 Wed. at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Wendelin Patrick Schmidt Jr., 84, Retired Petroleum Sales Manager, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Rosary will be at 6:00 pm, Sunday, August 1, 2021. 

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, August 2, 2021, both at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Wendelin grew up in a farming family and continued to be a farmer at heart by maintaining his large vegetable garden. He also enjoyed traveling and loved attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. 

Wendelin was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the American Legion. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Wendelin and Pauline; daughter, Mary Catherine; sisters, Margola, Melba. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine Marie Schmidt; daughter, Sheryl (Patrick) Gallagher; sons, Jeffrey (Kim) Schmidt, Michael (Jana) Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt; sister, Norma; brothers, Irvin, Leon, Gary, Melvin; grandchildren, Cordel, Brooklyn, Cole, Sydney, Connor, Luke, Cooper, Emily, Logan; great-granddaughter, Paisley.
