Theodore "Ted" Edward Otto Schreiber III, age 81, of Downs, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 17, 2021, at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, surrounded by loving family. He was born July 25, 1940, in Downs, Kansas, the son of Theodore and Mildred (Koops) Schreiber.
On March 10, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Fletcher, also of Downs, Kansas. Ted lived his entire life in Downs where he graduated from Downs High School in 1958, a true “dragon”. Ted worked several jobs in the area, including Culligan in Downs, and as a carpet/tile installer at Ellenz in Tipton, and then as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service.
Ted loved to shoot trap, fish, hunt, play billiards with the guys, garden, and tinker in his shop. He served as a deacon at the Down Christian Church, where he was an active member, and also on the Downs volunteer fire department.
He is survived by his two sons Eric (Kristi) Schreiber and Kevin (Annette) Schreiber, two grandsons Travis (Catherine) Schreiber and Kyle Schreiber, seven granddaughters, Nicole, Rachel, Kaya, Keri, Kymber Schreiber, Courtney Bushong, Danielle (Jarrod) Janzing , four great grandchildren, a brother, Kent (Linda) Schreiber, sister Jean Roumell, sister-in-law Peggy Schreiber, and a faithful lapcat, Charlie.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife (Ann), parents (Theodore and Mildred), a brother (Robert), and two sisters (Thelma Ann Johnston and Mary Fallon).
A celebration of life will be planned at a later date at the Downs Senior Center.
