Virginia F. Depperschmidt, 73, died on Saturday September 25, 2021, at 
her home. She was born on November 9, 1947, at Larned the daughter of 
Jess C. &amp; Caterina (Amoruso) Miller. She married Leo L. 
Depperschmidt on November 15, 1969 at LaCrosse. 
Virginia grew up on the family farm in Ness County and graduated from 
Bazine High School. She had worked at several jobs before moving with 
her husband to Garden City in 1970 and was mainly a homemaker. She was 
of the Lutheran faith and was an avid reader. 
She is survived by her Husband- Leo L. Depperschmidt, 2 Daughters- 
Katrina L. Coast of Beeler and Lori A. Strasser of Garden City, 4 
Sisters- Marlene Winter of Burdett, Linda Denning of Hays, Julie Tejeda 
of Wichita and Edna Ayers of Peabody, 2 Grandchildren and several 
Great-Grandchildren. 
There will be no public services held. Memorials are suggested to

Leslie Allan “Les” Ward was born Aug. 7, 1951, in Norton to Frank and Velda (Fullerton) Ward. He passed away Sept. 27, 2021, at Whispering Pines at the age of 70.

Les grew up on the family farm east of Norcatur with his older sister, Wava. He attended school in Norcatur and graduated in 1969. In high school, he participated in football, basketball and was active in FFA. Les married Lynn McMurry on April 26, 1980, at the Norton Methodist Church. They lived in Les’s childhood home for six years until they moved to the current farmstead in 1986. The couple was blessed with two children, Kaley and Keith. Les and Lynn later moved to town in 2011 and Keith moved onto the farm.

Les dedicated his life to family and farming. His kids were his greatest joy. In 2015, Les and Lynn welcomed their granddaughter Josie into the world. Les found himself with quite the little helper around the farm as she got older.

Les grew up helping on the family farm and became a fourth-generation farmer. He was also a crop adjuster for Great American Insurance for 15 years. He was a Farm Bureau board member for six years and served as the president for two.

During his free time, he could always be found on the golf course and enjoyed the annual golf trips with his golf buddies. He was a proud supporter of Norton Bluejay athletics and attended as many games as possible.

Les was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lynn of the home; daughter, Kaley Ward of Norton; son, Keith Ward of Norcatur; granddaughter, Josie; sister, Wava Reames of Norcatur; mother-in-law, Ruby Pflieger of Norton, father-in-law, Dean McMurry of Norton; brothers-in-law, Steve McMurry of Florida and Patrick McMurry of Colorado and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, 2021, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Norcatur Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7:oo p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.

Marva Lee Doud passed away on Sept. 27, 2021, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton at the age of 96. She was born on Sept. 26, 1925, to Lorenzo Rea and Mary Delina (Netherland) Zeigler in rural Rooks County. She was married to John William Doud on Nov. 24, 1951, in Salina. They were blessed with one daughter, Barbara Su. Marva Lee graduated from Natoma High School in 1943 before moving to Salina to attend Brown Mackie College. She lived in Salina until 2016 before moving to Stockton to be closer to family. While in Salina, she worked for Vernon Jewelers, Pyle Elevator Co., and First Bank of Kansas for 18 years until retiring. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Salina. Marva Lee enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and was a caregiver to many friends. She is survived by her sister, Geoa Norris of Stockton; niece, Nila Denton of Colorado; nephew, Neal Brown of Natoma; step-nieces and nephew, Tonja Strope, Beverly Hershberger, and Doug Norris; and great-nephews, Michael McShea, Matt McShea, Ryan Brown, and Tyler Brown.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Doud; daughter, Barbara Su Doud; brothers-in-law, Duane Brown and Lowell Norris; and great-nephew, Kit McShea. Dr. Robert J. “Bob” Keener, 54, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021, at his home.

Dr. Keener was born December 21, 1966, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son 
of Samuel George and Evelyn Joyce (Greenler) Keener.&nbsp; He was a lifelong 
resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a 1985 graduate of La Crosse 
High School, La Crosse, Kansas, and a 1998 graduate of Kansas State 
University, Manhattan, Kansas, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary 
Medicine Degree.&nbsp; He was an Assistant Professor of Agriculture at Fort 
Hays State University, Hays, Kansas, since 2012.

As a youth, Dr. Keener was a member of the Walnut City 4-H Club, Rush
 Center, Kansas; and Future Farmers of America (FFA), La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas; 
Walnut City Masonic Lodge #215, Rush Center, Kansas; ISIS Shriners, 
Salina, Kansas; Fort Hays Shrine Club, Hays, Kansas; La Crosse Brookdale
 District #4 Fire Board, American Veterinary Medical Association, 
(AVMA); Kansas Veterinary Medical Association (KVMA); American 
Association of Bovine Practitioners (AABP).&nbsp; He was a volunteer for the 
Special Olympics; McCracken Rodeo; and the Rush County Fair, where he 
was the 2021 Crops Superintendent.

Dr. Keener received the 2020 FHSU Pilot Award as the outstanding 
faculty member.&nbsp; He was also awarded the Spring, 2020 Werth College 
Award for Outstanding Teaching.&nbsp; Dr. Keener often spoke about how his 
greatest achievement was the relationships he built with his students.&nbsp; 
He was an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) member.&nbsp;

Survivors include:&nbsp; his wife, Shelley Oelkers, La Crosse, Kansas; his
 daughter Dyan Axman (Tony), Olathe, Kansas; his granddaughter, Raelyn 
Axman; two brothers, Tom Keener (LeAnn), Rush Center, Kansas, and Jeff

Mary was born on July 5, 1924, in Shattuck, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jacob and Lydia (Kraft) Long.&nbsp; She grew up in Ransom, Kansas, and graduated from Ransom High School in 1942.&nbsp; After high school she received education degrees from Kansas State University and Ft. Hays State University where she received her master’s degree.&nbsp; She was an elementary school teacher in many locations for 45 years and worked as a teacher for USD #407 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Robert L. Craig until his passing in 1995 and was also married to David Goodyear until his passing in 2011.&nbsp; She also lived in Ransom, Kansas, Smith Center, Kansas, Manhattan, Kansas, Claflin, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Plainville, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and numerous other clubs and organizations.

Surviving family include her son Mike Craig of Russell, Kansas; grandson Matt Craig and wife Alicia of Colorado Springs, Colorado; grandchildren Piper, Ellie, and Oliver Craig and her sister Lillian Skinner.&nbsp;

Wilmer Kellogg, 89, Hays, Kansas, died Friday, September 24, 2021, at his home.

He was born January 8, 1932, in Palco, 
Kansas the son of Charles and Hattie (Beougher) Kellogg. &nbsp;In 1950, he 
graduated from Salina High School. &nbsp;He was a Korean War Navy Veteran. 
&nbsp;He was The Civilian Manager of the Officer’s Club at Schilling Air 
Force Base in Salina, Kansas for eleven years and the Club was rated 
first place in Strategic Air Command and first in the Air Force in 1961.
 &nbsp;After the base closed, he managed the Smoky Hill Country Club in Hays,
 Kansas for 11 years. He started the Taco Shop in 1970 and sold it 31 
years later. &nbsp;He also started Captain Kidd Fish and Chips and Daisy 
Mae’s Tavern, and purchased Ellis Rendering Co. and ran it for six years
 before selling it. &nbsp;During this time, he started and managed Kellogg 
Rentals. &nbsp;Wilmer served on the FHSU Endowment Association Board, the 
Good Samaritan Board of Directors, and was a member of the First United 
Methodist Church and served on several of its committees. &nbsp;He was a life
 member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Sternberg Museum of Natural
 History, the Ellis County Historical Society, and the Society of 
Historic Fort Hays.&nbsp; He served six years on the Colt Collectors 
Association Board of Directors. &nbsp;He started the Elizabeth Colt Legacy 
Foundation Board of Directors. (Their purpose was to help fund the youth
 shooting teams across America.) He was also a member of the Texas Gun 
Collectors and the Colorado Gun Collectors Associations.&nbsp; Wilmer married
 Lorena (Mendenhall) Deighton on August 16, 1965.

Survivors include his wife: Lorena of 
Hays, a step-son: Brad Deighton (Carroll) of Dallas, TX; two sons: 
Lonnie Kellogg (Jennifer) of Hays and Larry Kellogg of Salina; a 
daughter: Cathy Scherven (Don), Randy Duke (Tami) of Minnesota, 
grandchildren: Jason Duke (Jonna), Josh Duke (Tina), Lindsey Duke, 
Suzanne Kellogg (Jake), Marissa Scherven, and Madeline Scherven, all of 
Minnesota, and great-grandchildren: Lane, Ava Belle, Alexis, Zofie, 
August, Stella, Juniper, Sage, and Wilmer Duke, all of Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents: Charles and Hattie Kellogg, a sister: Eva Marie (Kellogg) Will 
(Karl), a brother: Charles Kellogg (Edna), and a grandson: Donald Eugene
 Kellogg.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am on
 Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, Hays,
 Kansas.&nbsp; Private family burial will be in Mt. Allen Cemetery.&nbsp;

Wilmer Kellogg

Kendall Phillip Stinemetz, 42, departed this world September 22, 2021. 
He was at his home in Castle Rock, Colorado, at the time of his death. 
Kendall was born to Phillip Frederick and Susan Kay (Erickson) 
Stinemetz, December 26, 1978, in Hoxie, Kansas. He grew up on the family
 farm north of Hill City and was later joined by two younger siblings, a
 brother, Chris, and a sister, Amanda. 
 His life was filled with tragedy as well as resounding beauty. He 
married his first love, Jackie (Dowling) Stinemetz, in 2003, and this 
celebration was followed by heartbreak, as she died a few months later. 
After rebuilding his life, he met the woman who would restore love, 
faith, and kindness in him; he married Karin (Berg) Stinemetz June 9, 
2006, and they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Kloe Louise Stinemetz,
 August 27, 2008. 
 Kendall was immeasurably diverse in his skill sets and unyieldingly 
versatile in his interests. Since high school, he had been wholly 
invested in building, shaping, and creating with his hands – especially 
household and automotive restoration. He regularly worked with engines 
and tractors. Most recently, he was assembling materials to restore a 
1968 Pontiac Firebird. His outdoor hobbies involved shooting trap with 
precision and skill, hunting, and fishing. Further, Kendall’s navigation
 of grilling and smoking meat was unparalleled; he was a master in the 
kitchen, and it brought him tremendous joy to share his food creations 
with others. Additionally, he had great fondness of movies and music; he
 found delight in recommending to others his unique and meaningful 
finds. 
 In terms of career, Kendall was a telecommunications genius. His 
first taste of the industry came by devise of his uncle, Don Stinemetz, 
the summer of his junior year when he worked in New Haven, Connecticut. 
The majority of his career was dedicated to telecommunications; however,
 he took a brief reprieve and moved back home to Hill City where he 
served as the Deputy Undersheriff for the Graham County Sheriff’s 
Office. At the time of his death, Kendall served as Director of RF 
Design and Network Performance for ATN International in Castle Rock. 
 Kendall had a strong physical presence, and his personality was 
equally captivating. He was quick witted, dry humored, intelligent, 
hardworking, and sentimental. He was also a storyteller and enjoyed 
sharing stories. In his own right, he was a giant whose reach was 
unlimited, as he impacted lives and made impression upon others; his 
influence echoed even in his absence. 
 Kendall was preceded in death by his first wife, Jackie (Dowling) 
Stinemetz; his paternal grandparents, Fred B. and Muriel Stinemetz; his 
maternal grandparents, Bryce and Esther Erickson; and his uncle, Donald 
Stinemetz. He is survived by his wife, Karin Stinemetz, Castle Rock; 
daughter, Kloe Stinemetz, Castle Rock; parents, Phillip F. and Susie 
Stinemetz, Hill City; brother, Chris F. (wife Kara Stinemetz) Lee’s 
Summit, Missouri; and his sister, Amanda K. (fiancé Adam D’Alessandro).

Beulah B. Johnson was born to Charles A.&nbsp; &amp; Agnes L. (Hawks) 
Bertholf on November 5, 1923, in the Bow Creek area of rural Kirwin, KS.&nbsp;
 She passed away on September 9, 2021, at the Hilltop Lodge in Beloit, KS
 at the age of 97.

She grew up in the Kirwin area &amp; graduated from Kirwin High 
School.&nbsp; Beulah worked several years at various jobs.&nbsp;&nbsp; On August 15, 
1947, she was united in marriage to Floyd “Joe” Johnson at the 
Congregational Church in Smith Center, KS.&nbsp; After marriage, she worked 
as a secretary for the Department of Agriculture for 12 years.&nbsp; Because 
of Joe’s jobs, they lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado &amp; 
Washington. They were living in Grand Coulee, WA when Joe retired in 
December of 1974.&nbsp; The couple then returned to Kirwin to make their 
home. &nbsp;Joe passed away on February 16, 1994.&nbsp; After a few years, Beulah 
moved to Phillipsburg.

Beulah enjoyed the outdoors, she and Joe took several fishing trips 
to Minnesota.&nbsp; She had fond memories of clam digging and salmon fishing 
while they lived in Washington.&nbsp; Her family &amp; friends meant much to 
her &amp; she loved attending family functions &amp; visiting with &amp;
 helping friends.&nbsp;

Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, husband Joe, 2 brothers;
 Wayne Bertholf &amp; wife Wanda &amp; Charles Bertholf &amp; wife 
Marilyn &amp; her nephews Keith &amp; Phil Bertholf.

She leaves to mourn her passing, 5 nephews &amp; their families, many
 nieces &amp; nephews in the Johnson family as well as many cousins 
&amp; friends.

Cremation was chosen.&nbsp; Private family services were held Sat. Sept. 
25 at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Pastor Blake Stanwood 
officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment was in the Kirwin Cemetery.

Cleo Kay Nosekabel, 87, Gorham, formerly of Plains, died Saturday, September 25, 2021, at his home.

He was born June 10, 1934, in Malvern, 
Iowa, the son of Walter Francis and Alice Elizabeth (Duvall) Nosekabel.&nbsp;
 He was a 1953 graduate of Randolph High School.&nbsp; In March 1954, he was 
drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country until 1957.&nbsp; For 30 
years, Cleo worked as a USDA meat grader, retiring in 1999. He was 
united in marriage to Janet L. “Jan” Miller on April 28, 2001, in Plains,
 and on May 7, 2021, Cleo and Jan renewed their wedding vows in a 
private ceremony in the Catholic Church.&nbsp; Cleo was a member of the 
Liberal Bass Masters, Kansas Trap Shooters, NRA, and the Liberal Bowling
 League.&nbsp; He played slow pitch baseball, loved the outdoors, and enjoyed
 fishing, rifle and bow hunting, trap shooting, bird watching, and 
camping.&nbsp; Cleo was friendly, always willing to help others, wise, had a 
hearty laugh, and loved spending time with his children and 
grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Jan of 
Gorham, one son: Michael Nosekabel and wife Carla of Plains, two 
daughters: Pam Louderback and husband Max of Liberal and Linda Lynn of 
Plains, two stepsons: &nbsp;Matt Steen and wife Karen of Dillon, CO and Ryan 
Steen and wife Audra of Shawnee, one brother: Glen Nosekabel of Kismet, 
one sister: Peggy Greenwood of Kismet, seven grandchildren, 24 great 
grandchildren, and five step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother: Gene Nosekabel.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm on
 Friday, October 1, 2021, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; Burial 
with military honors by the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in the 
Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 6:00 pm 
until 8:00 on Thursday and from 11:00 am until service time on Friday,

Vivian L. McDowell

Laura Ellen Medina, 69, passed away on September 25, 2021, at Wichita
 County Hospital. She was the wife of Charles Medina and they shared 
over 50 years of marriage, 3 sons, 3 grandchildren, and 2 
great-grandchildren together.

Born March 2, 1952, in Leoti Kansas, she was one of the six children 
of Merle and Dorthy Hahn Bishop. She graduated from WCHS in 1970 and 
then attended cosmetology school in Garden City, Ks.&nbsp;&nbsp;

On March 13, 1971, she married Charles Medina of Leoti, Kansas.&nbsp; She 
was employed at Western State Bank in Leoti for 25 years where she 
worked as a loan officer, retiring 8 years ago.

She was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church, a Leoti City 
Council Member, Mayor of Leoti, Economic Development Committee Member, 
and had volunteered within her community of Leoti, Ks with several 
organizations.&nbsp;

She enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling with her husband Charles.
 She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren. Laura will be remembered for her smile, compassion,

sisters - Janet &amp; Gerald Kasten of Skandia, Michigan, Barbara &amp; 
Pat Ryan of Scott City, Kansas, Anita &amp; Mike Ellis of Scott City, 
Kansas, three grandchildren - Tye &amp; Delaney Manns of Blue Mound, 
Illinois, Tori Smith of Leoti, Kansas, and Mateo Medina of Portland, 
Oregon, great-grandchildren Jackson and Augustina.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son - Chad Medina.

was employed at Western State Bank in Leoti for 25 years where she 
worked as a loan officer, retiring 8 years ago.She was a member of Saint Anthony Catholic Church, a Leoti City 
Council Member, Mayor of Leoti, Economic Development Committee Member, 
and had volunteered within her community of Leoti, Ks with several 
organizations.&nbsp;She enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling with her husband Charles.
 She also loved spending time with her grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren. Laura will be remembered for her smile, compassion,

Laura Ellen Medina

Billie Lou (Harris) Smiley was born in Norton, Kansas on May 23, 1922, 
to parents, Charles and Nola Harris, and was the youngest of 5 siblings.


She moved to California after graduating high school to work at 
Consolidated Vultee in acquisitions to build airplanes in WWII. After a
 car wreck in California, she moved to Kansas City and then St. Louis, 
where she met married Larry Finnell and moved to Florida to raise her 
son, Robert J. Finnell, and worked at Land Rover selling automobiles. 
She went on to become Vice President of Montessori Schools and was 
instrumental in establishing many schools along the Eastern part of the 
United States. She and Larry divorced. She then had an old flame from 
the early days of kindergarten in Norton come a’calling, Ward B. Smiley.
 They were quickly married and spent the next 22 years enjoying life; 
traveling and golfing, that ended in 1995 when Ward passed. She 
followed her son, Bob, to Scottsdale where she lived another full life 
with great neighbors and family, always the life of the party and loved 
by all. Her final two years were spent in Littleton, Colorado, near 
family. She was looking forward to having a large party and dancing at 
her 100th birthday.
 Loved ones that preceded her in death are her husband, Ward Smiley; 
son, Bob Finnell; parents, Charles and Nola Harris; brother, Walter 
Harris; sisters, Eve Campbell, Dorothy Garrett Smiley, and Georgia 
Spaulding; stepson, Robert Smiley; niece Georgia Garrett; and great 
grandson, Noah Montano. Loved ones that will miss Billie are stepson

Leroy “Marty” Martin Diehl, 70, passed away September 18, 2021 at his home in Leavenworth.

He was born October 26, 1950 in Dodge City, the son of Roy L. and 
Verona M. Kellogg Diehl. Marty graduated from Jetmore High School in 
1969 and received his Masters degree in Psychology from Emporia then 
went to work for Leavenworth Penitentiary before retiring.

He was of the Christian faith and was a member of the NRA.&nbsp; Marty was
 an avid gun collector and enjoyed spending time with family, especially
 nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He served in the United States Air Force.

Survivors include: two brothers, Sonny&nbsp; (Linda) Diehl, Fort Collins, 
CO, Ronnie (Jeri) Diehl, Jetmore; sister, Lorina (Gene) Mache, 
Schulenburg, TX and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Jason Diehl.

Memorial graveside service will be held in the Fairmount Cemetery, 
Jetmore at a later date with military honors provided by United States 
Air Force and Chester Hawkins American Legion Post #290.

Elsie Arlene Brandyberry, age 81, of Hill City, Kansas, passed away 
Thursday September 23, 2021. Elsie was born October 29, 1939 to Earl 
and Mildred(Morgan) Hildebrand and was a little sister to her brothers 
Reno and Darrell. Elsie was a tomboy and loved sports and playing on 
the creek with her brothers.
 Elsie graduated from Hill City High School and received her 
Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Fort Hays State University where 
she was a member of the women’s tennis team. Elsie taught Women’s Health
 and Physical Education at Hill City High School and coached a girl’s 
tennis team. This was before girls’ sports were recognized in schools, 
so Elsie drove the girls around to play in her own car. Elsie married 
Willis Brandyberry July 25, 1964, at the Hill City Methodist Church. 
Elsie and Willis had three children: Steven of Hill City, Stanley of 
Hill City, and Staci of Kansas City. Elsie was a hard-working farmer 
and rancher and believed in community. She volunteered with the Happy 
Crickets 4-H Club, Graham County Extension, Graham County Community 
Foundation, and the Graham County Historical Society. She enjoyed her 
six grandchildren and attended as many of their events as possible. 
 Elsie is survived by her brother Darrell; her husband Willis; her 
son Steven and his wife Barbara of Hill City and his son Heath of 
Wichita; her son Stanley and his wife Mary of Hill City and their 
children Everett, Asa, and Georgia; and her daughter Staci and her 
husband Don of Kansas City, Missouri and their children Isaac and Conor.
 A private interment will be held at Prairie Home Cemetery and a 
celebration of life will be held December 27, 2021, at the Stinemetz 
Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Graham County Historical 
Society.

Judith “Judi” Anne (Cox) Stewart, 79, passed away September 23, 2021,
 after a two year battle with cancer. She was born on September 17, 
1942, in Oklahoma City, to Arthur and Helen (Truitt) Cox. Judi put 
herself through college, and taught in public schools for 43 years, the 
bulk of those years in Marion, KS. Children and literacy always had a 
special place in her heart.

Judi and her husband Ron were happily married for 38 years and were 
actively involved in ministry. Judi loved the Lord, and dedicated her 
life to teaching, missions, and ministry. She had a great compassion for
 people, loving on and encouraging more than we could count. One of the 
highlights of her life was traveling to Romania and working in their 
orphanages, with H2H International, Heart 2 Heart Ministries.

Judi was creative, demonstrating her gifts as a published author, an 
artist, gardener and avid seamstress and crafter. Her greatest joys were
 her beloved grandchildren.

Judi is survived by her brothers, Lonnie Cox and his wife Bonnie of 
Oklahoma City, Larry Cox and his wife Vicki of Blanchard, OK, and Mark 
and his wife Jean of Choctaw, OK; her daughter, Billye Meade and her 
husband Devin of Moore, OK, her son, Michael Stewart and his wife Gina 
of Apple Valley, MN, and daughter Shannon Wedel and her husband Darcy of
 Great Bend; her step daughters, Linda Manister of Edmond, OK, and Diane
 Worthington and her husband David of Oklahoma City; eight 
grandchildren, Delaney Meade, Nathaniel Meade, Reaghan Stewart, Kellen 
Stewart, Rhyan Stewart, Ethan Wedel, Evan Wedel, and Emily Wedel; three 
step grandchildren, Ian Worthington, Jack Manister, and Will Manister; 
as well as her lifelong friend, confidant and sister in Christ, 
Charlotte Love of College Station, TX. She was preceded in death by her 
parents; her husband, Ron Stewart; and a daughter, Belinda.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
services will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 
Faith Community Church, Great Bend, with Pastor Sandy Kennedy presiding.

Tonya L. (Bittel) Sweat passed away on 
9/21/2021 at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born June 3, 1980 in Hays, 
Kansas&nbsp;to Marvin and Mary (Wasinger) Bittel.

She married Shawn Sweat on 4/28/2007, 
at St. Fidelis in Victoria, KS. Tonya graduated from Thomas Moore 
Prep-Marian High School in 1998 where she went on to Fort Hays State 
University to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration 
with a Minor in German. Tonya moved to Gladstone, MO in 2004. She became
 an active member of Northland Cathedral. Tonya and Shawn opened their 
home and hearts to children in the foster care system in Missouri and 
were fortunate enough to be able to adopt two of the children, Hannah 
and Ryan, both in 2012. Tonya and Shawn opened their arms and hearts to 
children who needed them most and showed them a loving family and what 
it means to follow in their faith. In 2019 Tonya and Shawn decided it 
was time to move away from Kansas City and moved to LaCrosse KS. Tonya 
enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, she would spend hours
 playing video games with them or just being on the phone with them 
while they played. They would spend almost every weekend at her house 
working on crafts or puzzles. Tonya became affectionately known as Tonga
 by her youngest niece and nephew. After moving to LaCrosse she became a
 member of Celebration Community Church. She was a devoted friend and 
would build lifelong friendships with the people she came across in her 
life. If anyone ever needed anything she was always right there for 
them.

Survivors include her husband Shawn, 
LaCrosse; son Ryan, Hays; daughter Hannah, Kansas City, MO; parents 
Marvin and Mary Bittel, Hays; sister Sheri Bittel (Joe Hillebrand), 
Hays; brother-in-law Scott Sweat (Tiffany), Olathe; father and 
mother-in-law Leroy and Kay Sweat, Olathe; nieces and nephews Allison 
Hillebrand, Alex Hillebrand, Leah Hillebrand, Rhys Hillebrand, Hays and 
Dylan Sweat, Olathe.

She was preceded in death by her 
grandparents Tony and Margaret Bittel and Andrew and Miriam Wasinger, 
and three uncles Ron Wasinger, Cliff Wasinger, and John Wasinger.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 
September 28, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Celebration Community Church with 
Pastor Brandt Rice officiating.&nbsp; Interment will follow the services in 
the St. Francis Cemetery - Munjor, Kansas.&nbsp;

 </figure>Tonya L. (Bittel) Sweat passed away on 
9/21/2021 at Hays Medical Center.&nbsp; She was born June 3, 1980 in Hays, 
Kansas&nbsp;to Marvin and Mary (Wasinger) Bittel.She married Shawn Sweat on 4/28/2007, 
at St. Fidelis in Victoria, KS. Tonya graduated from Thomas Moore 
Prep-Marian High School in 1998 where she went on to Fort Hays State 
University to receive a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration 
with a Minor in German. Tonya moved to Gladstone, MO in 2004. She became
 an active member of Northland Cathedral. Tonya and Shawn opened their 
home and hearts to children in the foster care system in Missouri and 
were fortunate enough to be able to adopt two of the children, Hannah 
and Ryan, both in 2012. Tonya and Shawn opened their arms and hearts to 
children who needed them most and showed them a loving family and what 
it means to follow in their faith. In 2019 Tonya and Shawn decided it 
was time to move away from Kansas City and moved to LaCrosse KS. Tonya 
enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, she would spend hours
 playing video games with them or just being on the phone with them 
while they played. They would spend almost every weekend at her house 
working on crafts or puzzles. Tonya became affectionately known as Tonga
 by her youngest niece and nephew. After moving to LaCrosse she became a
 member of Celebration Community Church. She was a devoted friend and 
would build lifelong friendships with the people she came across in her 
life. If anyone ever needed anything she was always right there for 
them.Survivors include her husband Shawn, 
LaCrosse; son Ryan, Hays; daughter Hannah, Kansas City, MO; parents 
Marvin and Mary Bittel, Hays; sister Sheri Bittel (Joe Hillebrand), 
Hays; brother-in-law Scott Sweat (Tiffany), Olathe; father and 
mother-in-law Leroy and Kay Sweat, Olathe; nieces and nephews Allison 
Hillebrand, Alex Hillebrand, Leah Hillebrand, Rhys Hillebrand, Hays and 
Dylan Sweat, Olathe.She was preceded in death by her 
grandparents Tony and Margaret Bittel and Andrew and Miriam Wasinger, 
and three uncles Ron Wasinger, Cliff Wasinger, and John Wasinger.Funeral services will be Tuesday, 
September 28, 2021 at 2:30 PM at Celebration Community Church with

Tonya L. (Bittel) Sweat 

Patricia Ann Cozad, 74, of Oberlin, KS passed away on September 21, 
2021, in Cambridge, NE. She was born on March 19, 1947, in Norton, KS 
to Chester and Josephine (Heisz) Johnson.
 Patricia grew up on a farm southwest of Lenora in Graham County and 
graduated from Lenora High School in 1964. After high school, she 
attended Brown Mackie Community College in Salina, KS where she received
 her Associates degree in Business. She later came back to Oberlin and 
worked at the Oberlin Herald for 30 years as an office manager. Pat 
also helped many people as a Notary Public. In her spare time she loved
 to quilt, sew, spend time in her garden and woodworking; she liked to 
go to and put on yardsales. She also enjoyed attending church on 
Sundays.
 She was an active volunteer in the community and was known for her 
warm smile, friendly nature and caring personality. Most of all, Pat 
was a very devoted mother and grandmother who cherished her time with 
her family.
 Pat is survived by sons: Brad (Brenda) Burmaster of Oberlin, KS, 
Jeff (Andrea) Burmaster of Oberlin, KS; daughter, Jackie Mayberry of 
Beaver City, NE; grandchildren: Lakin Stanfield, Chyanne May, Zach Lahe,
 Aubrey Burmaster, John Burmaster, Kira Burmaster; 6 great 
grandchildren; brother, Harold (Cork) Johnson of Lenora, KS; sisters: 
Esther Headley of Eugene, OR and Lela Smith of Plattsmouth, NE, Glenda 
Stephen of Virginia Beach, VA, and many nieces and nephews. She was 
preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wilber Johnson and sister, 
Alice Griffin.

Patricia Ann Cozad

Juanita Mae Boley, 91, passed away peacefully at home Monday, September 20, 2021, in Salina, KS.

Juanita was the youngest of 10 siblings. On August 11, 1930, she was 
born at home in rural Valley Falls, KS to John William Strawn &amp; 
Luella Jane (Grahem) Strawn. Juanita married the love of her life, Louis
 Raphael Boley on June 17, 1953, at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic 
Church in Topeka, KS. They were happily united in marriage for over 65 
years, he proceeded her in death. Together, they were blessed with five 
children: John Boley (Diana), Wakefield; Mark Boley (Connie), Concordia;
 Cindy Boley (Bennie), Myra Texas; Jay Boley (Deb), Meade; and Rex 
Boley, Mankato. Juanita was also a proud grandmother to 16 grandchildren
 and 19 great grandchildren. &nbsp;

When Louis and Juanita returned to her family’s farm her dad would 
often stop working when he saw family come home. He would say, “There is
 always time for work, but you never have enough time with family.” 
Juanita and Louis used this statement as the foundation to build their 
family. Juanita spent much of her life serving her family and others as a
 proud homemaker while her husband served in the Kansas National Guard. 
She valued the time she invested in her children in those primary years.
 When Louis retired, Juanita decided to return to work. She was employed
 at Cook Hardware in Eskridge, KS until it closed. She then accepted the
 Head Cook position at Eskridge Elementary School until her retirement. 
She loved to cook and often talked about her wonderful experiences with 
students and staff while working at Eskridge Elementary School. &nbsp;

Juanita enjoyed supporting her husband during his military service 
while they lived in Topeka and Eskridge; however, they decided to move 
to Ellsworth, KS to be closer to their grandchildren. When they moved to
 Ellsworth, Juanita enjoyed spoiling her grandkids, cooking for others, 
being an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Ellsworth County 
Senior Center, and Mutual Friends Investment Club. Juanita loved 
attending school functions of her grandkids and helping with the 
Ellsworth Ag Department annual greenhouse plant sale. She was proud of 
her rural up bringing and enjoyed telling stories about growing up being
 part of a large family on a rural farm in Jackson County. She also 
shared stories of her high school years of playing girls basketball. &nbsp;

Juanita and Louis moved to Salina, KS in 2013 to once again be closer
 to family. Juanita loved her family, driving in the county, gardening, 
taking care of her flowers, cooking, and Wednesday night dinners with 
grandchildren. Her cookie jar was always full of chocolate chip and 
oatmeal raisin cookies! Grandkids always could count on a full jar of 
M&amp;M’s and Skittles on top of the refrigerator. Juanita was a light 
in all her family and friends' lives and we are happy knowing she is at 
peace.

Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2021 at Sacred 
Heart Cathedral, 118 N. 9th St. Salina, KS.Family will welcome visitors 
after the service in the Hall of Bishops. Burial will be at a later 
date. &nbsp;
