Betty Lynette Musick was born on March 25, 1942, in 
Concordia, Kansas to B. Russell Alcorn and Della La Verta (Wheeler) 
Alcorn.&nbsp; She graduated from Concordia High School.&nbsp; After one year at 
Fort Hays State University, she married Richard DeWitt.&nbsp; Three sons were
 born to this union: Steven, John, and Dennis.

Betty earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of 
Nebraska at Lincoln.&nbsp; She taught English, Sociology, and Spanish in 
Lincoln and Franklin, Nebraska and Concordia and Scandia, Kansas before 
moving to the Cloud County Clerk’s office where she served for thirty 
years, twenty-four as County Clerk.&nbsp; Betty was very active in the Kansas
 County Clerks’ and Election Officials’ Association, serving on many 
committees for various Kansas state departments and officers.&nbsp; As State 
President of the CC&amp;EOA, she was instrumental in creating the 
continuing education program for County Clerks at Wichita State 
University.

In 1988 Betty met and married the love of her life, Karl Douglas 
Musick.&nbsp; Together Betty and Doug spent many years serving Veterans 
through the VFW and Auxiliary.&nbsp; Betty retired in 2005 and the couple 
moved to Salina where Betty volunteered as a USD 305 English as a Second
 Language teacher.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.&nbsp; 
Surviving her are her husband Karl Douglas Musick; sons Steven (Barbara)
 DeWitt, Bennington, John DeWitt, Salina, and Dennis (Jennifer) DeWitt, 
Abilene; brothers Ben (Dee) Alcorn, Wichita, and Marion (Jackie) Alcorn,
 College Station, Texas; granddaughters Ashley (fiancé Jason Hekele) 
DeWitt, Olathe, and Chelsey (Collin) Giambrone, Olathe; grandsons Tyler 
(Dr Krista) DeWitt, Salina and Eli DeWitt, Abilene;&nbsp; 
great-granddaughters Allison LaValette, Olathe, and Reagan DeWitt, 
Salina; great-grandson Paxton DeWitt, Salina; aunt LaVerne Stringham, 
Paola; sister-in-law Debra Wilhm, Bentonville, Arkansas; and many 
beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Cremation was chosen and the family will hold a private celebration of life.

Alfred Henry “Fritz” Sauer, 97, died Wednesday October 27, 2021, at St. 
Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born January 7, 1924,&nbsp; in Antonino, Kansas, the son of Anton George and Pauline (Rupp) Sauer. 
Fritz grew up on the family farm near Antonino, Kansas until his 
enlistment into the US Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served in WWII 
and upon his honorable discharge he worked in the shipyards of Alabama 
for a short time. He moved to Garden City and worked with his brother in
 construction before starting his own company (Fritz Sauer 
Construction). It was here that he met his future wife of 70 years. 
Fritz and Carolyn were married August 2, 1949, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. 
Fritz built many custom homes, schools, storefronts, and prominent 
structures in Garden CIty and Southwest Kansas. Later in his career he 
had the privilege of working for Winger Cattle Company in Johnson, 
Kansas until his retirement. He was well known for his perfection, work 
ethic, values, and integrity. Fritz enjoyed hunting, fishing, and 
spending time with his family and friends. 
Survivors include two daughters Patty Carr of Waco, Texas and Deb Foltz 
of Garden City, Kansas; four grandchildren, and thirteen 
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- 
Carolyn (Goodin) Sauer, brothers- IA Sauer, and Joe Sauer, and 
sisters-Irene Leiker, Katie Dodson, and Albertine Stewart. 
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Monday November 29, 2021, at

He was born November 3, 1924, in Vincent, Kansas, to Peter C. and Pauline “Lena” (Schwartz) Kippes.

He was a farmer and spent his lifetime in the Vincent and Victoria Kansas area.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, Kansas and the Victoria Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree.&nbsp; He moved to St. John’s Health Care Center, Victoria, Kansas in 2005, then to St. John’s of Hays Care Center, then to Via Christi Village Care Center in Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include two brothers, Eugene Kippes, Hays, KS; Lloyd Kippes and wife, Benita, Edmond, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roy Kippes; two sisters, Pauline “Pearl” Leiker and Rita Pfeifer.

Joyce Ann (Fullerton) McElroy, the daughter of William 
and Ruby (Hancock) Fullerton, was born on January 4, 1942, in Montrose, 
Kansas. She passed away on November 21, 2021, at the Bob Wilson 
Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas, at the age of 79. 
Joyce grew up in a very large family of 17 siblings and was a graduate 
of Montrose High School, class of 1960. She then moved to San Rafael, 
California, and married Roger McElroy. 
After their first son Curtis Eugene was born, she didn’t think that 
California was a place to raise children so they moved back to Randall, 
Kansas, to be near family. One year later, Gregory Allen was born and 
then they headed west to Menlo, Kansas, just in time for their oldest 
son to start pre-school in Colby. Both boys attended a few years of 
elementary school in Rexford, Kansas. Adding two girls to the family, 
Gina Susanne and Kimi Lynn were born. In 1971, they moved to Johnson, 
Kansas, where they raised their children. Joyce had the ability to find
 ways to keep her children busy and learn how to make money. At a young
 age, they delivered the Garden City and Dodge City newspaper, sold 
seeds, had a fireworks stand and many other endeavors. As everyone left
 home to pursue life, she enjoyed taking her oldest grandkids to 
Colorado and Silver Dollar City when she was able. 
Joyce was most known for her clothing store, RJ Western Wear that she 
owned for many years. She enjoyed the craft of stamping names on 
leather western belts and visiting with all of her customers. Throughout
 her lifetime she was an EMT and Nurse’s Aide for Stanton County, a Girl
 Scout leader, a supervisor for 17 years at Grant County Feeders, a 
meter reader for Pioneer Electric, and a rural route postal carrier 
until four years ago when she moved to Ulysses, Kansas, where she 
resided until her final day. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruby; brothers, 
Roy, Donald, LaVern, and Dean; sisters, Bernice and Neva; and four 
infant brothers and one infant sister. 
Survivors include her children; Curtis McElroy of Tulsa, OK, Greg 
McElroy of Randall, KS, Gina (Eric) Fox of Rockwall, TX, and Kimi

Robert “Bob” Waugh, 89, of Goodland, KS, passed away November 15, at 
his home following a life well lived. He was born in Emporia, KS, and 
grew up on his family farm in Olivet, KS. He attended country schools 
until high school where he excelled at athletics and catching the girl. 
He met Margaret when her mother came to teach at Olivet High School, and
 they were together until her passing in 2009.&nbsp; Bob and Margaret married
 on March 22, 1952.&nbsp; Seven children were born to the couple: Cathy 
Manhattan, KS; Bob (dec); Tom (Wendy) Ocean Shores, WA; Marcia Honer 
(Ron dec) Missouri City, TX; Lynn (Richard Fogg) Manhattan, KS; Mike 
(Monica) Spearfish, SD; Scott (Trischa), Goodland, KS. &nbsp;

Early in his life he farmed and worked at Globe Union in Emporia, KS 
until its closing, and then began studying at Emporia State University 
where he earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science in Education 
degrees. &nbsp;During this time Bob and Margaret moved to Reading, KS, where 
he was self-employed as a farmer and “the best TV Repair guy” in the 
region. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree in 1966 the family moved 
to Goodland, KS, where he was an excellent educator at what is now 
Northwest Kansas Technical College. He was also the teacher/coordinator 
of the DECA program at Goodland High School. He taught business 
education at the Goodland “Vo-Tech” for more than 30 years and retired 
in 1995.

Shortly after moving to Goodland, Bob and Margaret purchased a travel
 trailer and they were off on adventures! Over the years the family 
explored the western states; upon retirement Bob and Margaret enjoyed 
traveling across the country visiting national parks, presidential and 
other museums, as well as visiting friends and relatives all over the 
US. For hobbies, Bob loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting, reading, and
 spending time with family and friends.

Bob could fix almost anything from minor machine repairs to household
 repairs, and also “fixed” people who needed special attention. He was 
kind and generous to all, and while he might give someone a hard time, 
he would always come through.&nbsp;

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one son Bob, his beloved 
wife Margaret, son in law Ron, his sister Carol Bradshaw, brother-in-law
 Paul Michael, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Bob is survived by one sister Louise Michael, brother-in-law Richard 
Bradshaw, six of his children, ten grandchildren: Kari, Brad, Karina, 
Matt, Nick, Benjamin, Dayelle, Trace, Bryan, and Charles and seven 
grandchildren Hunter, Tatum, Kinzlee, Ellie, Calvin, Greyson, Bennett, 
and Kennedy (arriving early 2022),&nbsp;and numerous nieces, nephews, and 
cousins.

Robert 'Bob' Waugh

After a brief hospital stay, Bill Claussen quietly passed away the evening of November 19th, 2021.

William “Bill” Frederick Claussen was born July 14th, 
1940, in Spearville, KS, to Victor and Florence (Stein) Claussen. Bill 
grew up South of town with his siblings, Darrel, Corrine, and Richard. 
Bill often regaled us with the tale of a big, ol’ mean rooster who would
 chase the kids around, refusing to let them gather the eggs. Until one 
day when he went after it with a baseball bat! After that, the rooster 
left them alone to gather eggs in peace.

Bill married Ann on July 14th, 1962. He never had to worry
 about remembering their anniversary since it was his birthday! They 
lived on the farm where they farmed and ranched for nearly 59 years. Ann
 preceded Bill in death earlier this summer on July 8th, 
2021. During their life together they raised three children: Tonya, 
Doug, and Curt. Bill loved fishing and made many memories with his 
family fishing in the creek, at Cedar Bluff lake- where he also taught 
the kids to water ski, and during the yearly trips to Buena Vista, 
Colorado to trout fish.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Florence 
Claussen, his brothers Darrel and Richard Claussen, his sister Corrine 
(Claussen) Eaton, and his wife Annette (Zurbuchen) Claussen. He is 
survived his children Tonya Claussen Wyles, her husband Jack and their 
children Sammi and Kola of Buena Vista, CO; Doug Claussen, his wife 
Rachel and their children Gavin, Zach, Brooke, Luke, and Will, of 
DeSoto, KS; Curt Claussen and his son Cash of Kansas City, MO; and his 
brothers-in-law, John Zurbuchen of Spearville, KS and Arlen Eaton of 
Dodge City, KS, and sister-in-law Kathy Claussen of Colorado Springs, 
CO.

Bill was a strong man who lived a quiet life. He often said that he 
felt the presence of God in nature, not church. He loved to watch the 
crops grow and made lots of trips around the sections to see them.&nbsp; He 
marveled at the beauty of the new wheat sprouts early in the morning as 
the rising sun sparkled in the dew. If you find yourself reflecting 
about Bill, take a walk in the country, go on a mountain hike to find 
the perfect trout stream. Feel the breeze, the sun, and the gentle 
rains. Soak in the smells and enjoy the sounds. Walk in a field, grab a 
handful of the fertile soil, and breath in the scent. At night if you 
look to the sky, you’ll see the lights of heaven shining through the 
stars. That is where Bill felt closest to God, and where we can feel 
closest to him as we remember all the good times and the love he gave us
 all.

Every farmer puts his land to rest for the winter. On springs horizon
 it is brought back to life. God has put this farmer to rest, and with a
 spring in his step, Ann in hand, he walks the horizon to a new life.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Monday, November 29, 2021 at St. 
John the Baptist Church, Spearville.&nbsp; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am 
Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the church with Fr. John Forkuoh 
presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Spearville.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral 
Chapel, Dodge City.

Schmidt, Pawnee Rock, Ks. She died at home at the age of 94. She married
 Gene Schmidt on August 25, 1948.

Surviving are Becky (Jim) Cram, Salina, Ks., Rodney (Patty) Schmidt, 
Larned, Ks., John Schmidt, Pawnee Rock, Ks., Karl (Emily) Schmidt, 
Overland Park, Ks., Janet (Randy) Naus, Calhoun, Ga.; brother and 
sister-in-law: Jerry and Toni Schmidt, Harvard, Ne; 11 grandchildren: 
Marc Cram, Sara Schebo, Seth Schmidt, Shea Lopez, Somer Talkington, 
Jessica Schmidt, Nathan Schmidt, Allison Nicholson, Rachel Auten, 
Madison Naus, Taylor Naus and 4 great grandchildren: Kass Brennakate

 in Larned before becoming a farm wife and mother. She was active in her
 children’s activities, especially 4-H. As the children grew older, she 
worked for the 1st National Bank Larned as a teller and later
 for Carr Auction. She also loved caring for her grandchildren. An avid 
reader, Glennie had many friends and loved talking to them especially to
 share a good joke or story. She was a woman of strong faith and 
belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

A visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021,&nbsp; at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00
 p.m.

Lynette Dea Gallentine, 55, passed away November 19, 2021, at OU 
Health - University Of Oklahoma Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla.&nbsp; 
She was born October 25, 1966, in Great Bend, to Carl and Dolores 
(Bauer) Maddy.&nbsp; Lynette married Jerry Gallentine June 30, 2018, in 
Oberlin.

Lynette, a resident of Clayton since 2018 coming from Barton County, 
was a long time devoted nurse. She had recently worked at Logan Manor, 
Logan, previously working at Diversicare, Larned, Clara Barton Hospital,
 Hoisington, and The Children's Clinic, CKMC, and Great Bend Health and 
Rehabilitation, all of Great Bend. She enjoyed Mickey Mouse collectibles
 and decorating, but especially cherished her time with family and her 
wiener dog Gretta.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of the home; parents, Carl and 
Dolores Maddy of Logan; one son, Gannon Radenberg and his companion 
Brooke Oleson of Lenexa; one daughter, Taryn Mitchell and husband Jack 
of Great Bend; one granddaughter, Emersyn Mitchell; two brothers, Steven
 Maddy and wife Clairissa of Wichita, and Mike Maddy of Larned; one

Wilma Ross, 87, Hays, died Saturday, November 20, 2021, at her home.

She was born November 21, 1933, in 
La Crosse, the daughter of William and Philomena “Minnie” (Kuhn) 
Schafer.&nbsp; Wilma attended grade school in La Crosse, was a graduate of 
La Crosse High School, and she graduated from nurses training at St. 
Anthony School of Nursing in Hays.&nbsp; She played an important role in her 
family when she took charge of caring for her siblings after their 
father died at a young age and her mother worked outside the home.&nbsp; As a
 nurse, her desire was to take care of people in a humble, caring manner
 and seeing them get well.&nbsp; She worked for 35 years as a nurse manager 
on the surgical floor at Hays Medical Center as well as at other 
hospitals.&nbsp; She then worked at the Orthopedic Office for five years.&nbsp; On
 February 11, 1956, she was united in marriage to Alan Ross at St. 
Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; They celebrated 55 years of marriage 
before he preceded her in death on December 22, 2011.&nbsp; She was a member 
of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed playing 
Pinochle, casino trips, buying shoes, traveling with her husband Alan 
while he was a tour and activity bus driver, exercising at the Rec 
Center, and watching FHSU and TMP-Marian athletics.

Survivors include her son: Brian Ross 
and wife Peggy of Liebenthal, a grandson: Mark Ross of Houston, TX, a 
sister: Donna Schmidtberger and husband Dan of Hill City, and numerous 
nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her

LaVerne N. Dinkel, 86, Ellis, died Friday, November 19, 2021, at home surrounded by his family.

He was born November 19, 1935, on the 
family farm southwest of Ellis, one of 15 children of Nicholas Andrew 
and Leoba (Geist) Dinkel.&nbsp; He attended country school until eighth grade
 then went to work for several local farmers.&nbsp;&nbsp; He served in the U.S. 
Army from 1954-1956 and was in the Army Reserve.&nbsp; 

On January 2, 1960, he 
was united in marriage to Janice Schoenthaler in Wichita, and they 
celebrated 61 years of marriage.&nbsp; LaVerne was a trim carpenter and owned
 and operated Big D Construction.&nbsp; He trained his brothers in the trade 
and they went on to practice the trade with their own businesses.&nbsp; He 
was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and his family and Catholic 
faith were very important to him.&nbsp; LaVerne enjoyed vegetable gardening 
and growing pumpkins, polka dancing and polka music, and playing 
Pinochle and Pitch.&nbsp; He faithfully attended his sons’ sporting events, 
and was a fan of the Denver Broncos, the New York Yankees, and women’s 
college basketball.&nbsp; He loved every moment with his grandchildren, 
especially when they would all eat ice cream right out of the carton.

Survivors include his wife Janice of 
Ellis, three sons: Dan Dinkel and fiancé Stephanie Desjarlais of Derby, 
Don Dinkel and wife Jan of Columbia, SC, and Daryl Dinkel and wife 
Corinne of Mack, CO, five brothers: LeRoy Dinkel and wife Helen of 
Lakewood, CO, Verlin Dinkel of Henderson, NV, Larry Dinkel of Ellis, 
Patrick Dinkel and wife Doris of Broomfield, CO, and Paul Dinkel of

He was preceded in death by his

10:00 am on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 
Ellis, with Fr. Dana Clark officiating.&nbsp; Burial with military honors by 
the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in the church cemetery.&nbsp;
 Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:00 am

Edna M. (Soukup) Buehler, Wilson, KS, passed away on November 20, 2021, 
at the Ellsworth County Medical Center, Ellsworth, KS, at the age of 92.
 She was born on February 1, 1929, to Frank J. and Albina (Tymer) 
Soukup. She married Dale Buehler on June 15, 1949, at the St. Wenceslaus
 Catholic Church in Wilson. They were blessed with four children: 
Gloria, Wes, Lori, and Bruce.
 Edna graduated from Wilson High School with the Class of 1947. She 
then attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS, where she earned
 her teaching certificate. She taught at College Hill School south of 
Dorrance for two years. Later she worked at the Wilson Nursing Center as
 a Certified Nurse’s Aid for 20 years. She was a member of the St. 
Wenceslaus Altar Society and VFW Auxiliary of Russell, KS.
 Edna loved flowers and tending to her huge flower garden. She also 
loved cooking, baking, and quilting. But most of all, she loved her 
family and spending time with her grandchildren.

married to Donald Armbruster in 1966. 
 Julia grew up in Rooks County and graduated from Palco High School 
in 1961. She cooked for the O’Loughlin School in Hays for many years and
 enjoyed seeing the little kids coming through the lunch line. She also 
drove the water truck for her husband for many years. Julia enjoyed all 
her grandchildren. She loved gambling and could pull a good all-nighter 
doing so!
 Julia is survived by her children: Tamara Seglem of Kaw City, OK, 
Michael Wentworth (Diann) of Clearwater, KS, Lucinda Kerns of Kaw City,

Gwen Irene Walter, 85, passed away November 20, 2021, at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.

She was born October 5, 1936, in Arnold, Nebraska, the daughter of Ralph Earl and Irene Violet Norall Alexander.

Moving from Lyons, she was an area resident since 1971. She was a 
group manager of Alco and a member of the First Christian Church, both 
of Larned.

On April 5, 1954, she married Vurn “Shorty” Walter at Kearney Nebraska; he preceded her in death on March 18, 2005.

Survivors include: five children, Robert L. (Mary) Walter, McPherson,
 Connie Lou (Raul) Servin, San Antonio, Texas, Bruce E. (Julia) Walter, 
Turon, Thomas E. Walter, Larned, Rocky (Linda) Fox, Pratt; one sister, 
Judy (George) Lookhart, Manhattan; twenty-one grandchildren, forty-six 
great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, 
Ralph D. Alexander, and two sisters, Joan Bagley and Virginia Moore.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 
Beckwith Mortuary, with Pastor Damon Bradley presiding. Visitation will

Gwen Irene Walter

J.S. Wagner passed away on November 19, 2021, at Meadowlark Retirement Community in Manhattan, KS.
 Junior Simeon "J.S." Wagner was born on October 25, 1922, in Smith 
Center, KS. His parents were Lillie (Routh) and A. F. “Jud” Wagner.
 J.S. attended primary grades at Smith Center Grade and then a one 
room country school north of Smith Center. He was an honor student and 
football and track athlete at SCHS, graduating in 1940. J.S. went on to 
Fort Hays but his time there was interrupted by WWII. J.S. followed his 
father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1942.
 J.S. was assigned to officer training school at Bowling Green State 
University in Ohio. He returned later to Bowling Green to receive his 
bachelor’s degree.
 J.S. met his wife Betty (Barcus) Wagner at SCHS. They were married 
in 1945. J.S. and Betty were blessed with 3 children, Nancy, Jim and 
Joe.
 J.S. was enlisted with the Marine Corps, both active and reserve 
duty for several years spanning WWII and the Korean War. He was 
discharged with the rank of Captain. While J.S. was in the Marine 
Reserves he was hired as a social studies teacher at Lebanon High 
School. He then was called back to active duty to serve in Korea. Upon 
completing his Marine assignment in Korea, he resumed teaching in 
Lebanon.
 In the mid 1950s, J.S. decided to pursue administration certification using the GI Bill to study at the University of Colorado.
 In 1955 J.S. started his long tenure as school superintendent in 
Kensington. He remained as superintendent until retirement in the spring
 of 1987. He developed and maintained hundreds of positive relations 
with the students, staff and community members at Kensington. In 
addition, he supervised the development of many building projects for 
USD 238 and held many league administration duties. J.S. was a member of
 many organizations including the United Church of Kensington, Lions 
Club (charter member), VFW, American Legion, The Marine Corps League and
 the KS Retired Teachers Association (serving as state president at one 
time. He was league president of the K-18 (cookie) baseball association 
at one time. In addition, J.S. wrote a grant that in large part provided
 financial support for the building of the Kensington Senior Center. 
 J.S. and Betty continued to make Kensington their home after his 
retirement until October 2017. During retirement J.S. and Betty remained
 quite active in community affairs. J.S. was a big sports fan. His 
favorite teams were the Kensington Gold Bugs, Thunder Ridge Longhorns, 
K-State Wildcats, Bowling Green Falcons, the Royals and the Chiefs.
 J.S. was proceeded in death by his parents, his sisters Maxine and Donna (Attwood) and grandson Joey Weber.
 He is survived by his daughter Nancy Weber (John), son Jim Wagner 
(Susan), son Joel Wagner (Diane), grandson Greg Wagner and a brother Bob
 (Vicki) Wagner.

October 19, 1930 to William and Adalaid (Barns) Selbe in Ellis, Kansas. 
He was united in marriage to Mary L. (Miller) Selbe in 1952 and the 
couple raised two daughers: Denise and Joni.
 Jack was a lifetime resident of Rooks County and attended Plainville
 schools until the 10th grade. He then enlisted into the United States 
Marine Corps in 1950 and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably 
discharged in 1952 and married Mary Miller. When Jack returned to 
Plainville he owned the Plainville Dry Cleaners for 14 years, he then 
sold the dry cleaners and went to work in the oil field as a roustabout 
until his retirement in 1980.
 Jack loved being in the outdoors, coon hunting, fishing, and treeing
 cougars with his hounds. He was a strong, conservative, patriot who 
loved to laugh and make others laugh or sometimes jokingly boast about 
his dashing good looks. He was a member of the Plainville VFW Post 8871 
and the Methodist Church.

Jack Milton Selbe

Robert “Bob” Schlyer, age 95, of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021, in Hays. He was born December 5, 1925, in Hays, Kansas to Albert and Clara (Denning) Schlyer.&nbsp; At the age of 18, Bob joined the US Navy where he served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre including the battle of Iwo Jima. When Bob returned from serving his country, he married Dolores E. (Dreiling) on September 3, 1947, in Hays. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2013. Bob was a longtime wine and spirits salesman for State Distributors of Hays. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Hays VFW Post 9076. He was an avid bowler and fisherman as well as a dog lover. He was an avid bowler and fisherman as well as a dog lover. James Leon Lobmeyer, age 92, passed away on November 18, 2021 at the 
Wichita County Health Center in Leoti, Kansas. He was born on March 20 
1929 in Kinsley, Kansas, the son of Nicholas J. and Johanna M 
Gerstberger Lobmeyer.&nbsp; A resident of Wichita County, Kansas since 1953 
moving from Greeley County, Kansas, he was a farmer.

On April 11, 1950, James married Kathryn Strecker in Spearville, Kansas. She passed away on September 22, 2017 in Leoti, Kansas.

James was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Leoti, Kansas.

Survivors include eleven children; Albert &amp; Therese Lobmeyer of 
Leoti, Kansas, James &amp; Valerie Lobmeyer of Leoti, Kansas, Alfreda 
Lobmeyer of Hill City, Kansas, Daniel Lobmeyer of Leoti, Kansas, Helen

James Leon Lobmeyer

Kenneth Ray Bishop, 98, passed away on November 13, 2021, at the 
Wichita County Hospital. He was born on February 19, 1923, in Leoti, the 
son of Elvin and Inez Henry Bishop.

Kenneth was a life time member of the Leoti community. After serving 
during World War II in the US Army Air Corps, he returned to Leoti and 
worked as a farmer and rancher.

On June 24, 1945, he married Elizabeth Jane Pflaumer in Kansas City, Kansas. She passed away on June 13, 2015.

He was a founding member of the High Plains Appaloosa Horse club.

He is survived by his son Kelly &amp; Chris Bishop of Leoti, Kansas, 
one granddaughter, Kyla &amp; Paden Owens of Leoti, Kansas, four 
great-grandchildren; Kelly Bishop Owens, Mesa Rae Owens, Mercy Johanna 
Owens, and Raegan Leola Owens of Leoti, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one sister, LoRee Scott and one brother Leslie Merle Bishop.

John William Bergman, 95 years old, of Osborne, Kansas, passed away 
at&nbsp;his home on Tuesday, November 16, 2021. &nbsp;He was born on July 2, 1926 
in Beaver, KS to Peter &amp; Mae (Stoskopf) Bergman.

John graduated from high school. &nbsp;He enlisted in the US Army in 1944 
and served during WWII.&nbsp; John was Honorably Discharged in 1946 with a 
Purple Heart &amp; a Bronze Star.

After he returned home from the service, he met and married Alberta 
C. Bathurst. &nbsp;To this union, they had 2 daughters. &nbsp;John was employed 
with the Santa Fe Railroad as a Depot Agent in Osborne. &nbsp;He also did 
some farming. &nbsp;John was an active member of the Free Methodist Church 
and the Osborne Lions Club.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alberta in 
October, 2015; both daughters: Judy Wagner (2017) &amp; Janette Doyle 
(2016).

John is survived by brothers: Dean of Lincoln, NE; Paul of Hastings, 
NE; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

John William Bergman

Beloved by all who knew her, Sayan “Ludee” (Rogers) Wolfe left this 
world peacefully on September 17, 2020, at the age of 80. Just as Sayan 
wished, she passed at her home, surrounded by loving family members.

What an amazing life Sayan lived, beginning in Mae Sariang, Thailand 
and ending in Phillipsburg, Kansas. Not much is known about Sayan’s 
early life, except her first daughter Doy was born in Thailand. Several 
years later, she met a young GI from western Kansas named Larry Rogers. 
Larry was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War and was smitten 
with the beautiful young woman working in a department store. Their 
whirlwind courtship was sealed, as they married in Sayan’s hometown, 
where their daughter Cher was born. Because of red tape, lack of visas 
and passports and other roadblocks, Larry had to return to Kansas after 
his tour of duty without wife and child. After many months of filings 
and proper paperwork, Sayan and Cher finally reunited with their new 
family in the United States in December of 1968. As for Doy, she stayed 
behind to help care for Sayan’s aging mother, with the hopes of joining 
mother &amp; sister at a later time. Unfortunately, that never happened,
 which forever left a void in Sayan’s heart. She was sad to leave her 
first-born behind, and she returned to her homeland as much as she could
 throughout her years.

As Sayan would often say, she only knew two basic English words, 
“yes” and “no”, when she came to the US. However, the international 
language of a simple smile needed no interpretation, and she would end 
the story with a serious look that signified her sheer determination to 
make a successful life in America, no matter the linguistic barriers or 
cultural challenges.

Not long after Sayan’s arrival in Phillipsburg, her family grew by 
two sons, Pete followed by Warren “Sonny” ten months later (It seems 
that Thai people are capable of Irish twins!) Sayan and Larry soon 
settled in, raising their family along with great assistance from 
Larry’s parents (Warren &amp; Ida), his sisters Diane (husband Charles 
Portenier), Ardith (husband Robert Horn) and Jacque (then-husband Dennis
 Babcock), and baby brother Mike (with late wife Marty). It was 
obviously a difficult time to be a foreigner of Asian descent in America
 after an unpopular war, but the Phillipsburg community warmed to 
Sayan’s broad smile, genuine soul and infectious giggle.

Sayan and Larry eventually divorced, and years later she met and 
married the most wonderful of men, Earl Wolfe. He brought such 
stability, loyalty and limitless love to her life through nearly 22 
years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and especially 
hosting family and friends at their home during Rodeo and Christmas. 
Earl worked tirelessly to remodel their dream home. Sadly, Earl passed a
 little more than a year after Sayan’s passing, surely ready to join her
 to make more egg rolls and take more drives around the lake.

Sayan never knew a stranger. She greeted everyone with a big hug and a
 beaming smile, even if she just met you. Sayan loved to cook for family
 and friends and was well-known for her Thai food—mostly her delicious 
egg rolls. You were sure to get fed if you were at her house, regardless
 of if you were hungry or not! Most of all, Sayan treasured spending 
time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She 
showered those grandies with so much love, spoiled them with candy and 
treats and was often sure to give them a bath.

Sayan was preceded in death by her parents, only sister, first 
daughter Doy, stepdaughter Kayla Kreller and husband Jim Kreller, 
grandson Mai, great-grandson Titan, and other extended family members 
from Thailand. Sayan is survived in America by her children Cher Simpson
 (with husband Brad, sons Jacob and Ty and daughter Mayci), Pete (with 
ex-wife Kristy, stepsons Mark and Cody Harmon and daughter Alyssa and 
husband Kian Stegmaier) and Sonny (with ex-wife Aubrey and daughters 
Grace and Zoe); stepson Kurtis Wolfe (with sons Zack, Aaron and wife 
Lynsey, and Skylar); Kayla and Jim Kreller’s children Morgan and Jordan;
 and her great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Sayan is 
survived in Thailand by her son-in-law Sompet, along with nieces and 
nephews &amp; their children.

Sayan was so dearly and incredibly loved by her family and friends; 
she was a great teacher of acceptance, understanding, compassion and 
unconditional love. In that spirit, her family asks those who wish to 
send flowers to instead continue to spread that same acceptance, 
understanding, compassion and unconditional love throughout the world.

Sayan 'Ludee' (Rogers) Wolfe

Charles Wayne Bayles, 55 of Johnstown, CO passed away on Monday, 
October 18, 2021, due to complications from a two-month battle with 
COVID.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Charles was born in Kansas City, MO on February 22, 1966, to Ralph 
and Judith Bayles. Charles grew up in Gillette, WY and graduated from 
Campbell County High School in 1984.&nbsp; He attended Casper College and 
graduated from the University of Wyoming.&nbsp; He married Melanie Darnell in
 1992 and they were blessed with their son Tabor Bayles.

Charles was active in 4-H and FFA throughout high school and 
college, serving as a State FFA officer and was a member of the 
livestock judging team at Casper College.&nbsp; Charles worked for 26 years 
in the pork division of Excel/Cargill Meat Solutions in Wichita, KS and 
served as the Director of Bacon Processing for JBS/Swift Prepared Foods 
in Greeley, CO for 6 years until his passing.

Charles was a previous season ticket holder and avid fan of the 
Kansas City Chiefs and Wichita State Shockers.&nbsp; He was a master of the 
grill and enjoyed barbequing and smoking meats, as well as playing cards
 with friends.&nbsp; Travel in general was a big part of Charles’ life, and 
he was fortunate to attend many sporting events and visit many beaches 
and countries around the world. He attended Foundations Church in 
Loveland, CO.

Charles is survived by his wife Melanie, son Tabor, mother Judy; 
brothers John (Michele) and Anthony (Heather); sister-in-law Marsha 
(Gary) Armbrister; aunt Colleen (Fred) Baumert; nieces Nicole Goodenow 
(Luke), Amaya Bayles, and Aberdeen Bayles; nephews Seth Armbrister 
(Hunter), Asher Bayles and Sullivan Bayles, cousins Juliana Rubek, 
Amanda Baumert, Jessica Dwyer, Taylor Baumert and his golden retriever 
Patrick.

He is preceded in death by his father Ralph Bayles, in-laws Gary 
and Shirley Darnell, grandparents, Eileen and Willis Price and Velma and
 Ralph W. Bayles Sr.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on November 13, 2021, at
 Foundations Church, 1159 Main Street, Windsor, CO and at 1:00 pm on 
December 4, 2021, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 2525 N Rock Road, 
Wichita, KS.

 </figure>Charles Wayne Bayles, 55 of Johnstown, CO passed away on Monday, 
October 18, 2021, due to complications from a two-month battle with 
COVID.&nbsp;&nbsp;Charles was born in Kansas City, MO on February 22, 1966, to Ralph 
and Judith Bayles. Charles grew up in Gillette, WY and graduated from 
Campbell County High School in 1984.&nbsp; He attended Casper College and 
graduated from the University of Wyoming.&nbsp; He married Melanie Darnell in
 1992 and they were blessed with their son Tabor Bayles.Charles was active in 4-H and FFA throughout high school and 
college, serving as a State FFA officer and was a member of the 
livestock judging team at Casper College.&nbsp; Charles worked for 26 years 
in the pork division of Excel/Cargill Meat Solutions in Wichita, KS and 
served as the Director of Bacon Processing for JBS/Swift Prepared Foods 
in Greeley, CO for 6 years until his passing.Charles was a previous season ticket holder and avid fan of the 
Kansas City Chiefs and Wichita State Shockers.&nbsp; He was a master of the 
grill and enjoyed barbequing and smoking meats, as well as playing cards
 with friends.&nbsp; Travel in general was a big part of Charles’ life, and

Charles Wayne Bayles

Ruth Elaine Schuster, age 82, of Hays, KS, passed away peacefully on 
November 15th, 2021, at John Knox Village in Lees Summit, MO, after a 
long illness.&nbsp;

Ruth was born on December 3rd, 1938, to Harry and Helen Miller in 
Hays, KS. She and her brother, Max Miller, grew up and went to school in
 Ellis, KS. In high school, she met the love of her life, Donald 
Schuster, at a skating rink - a story she often related to her 
grandchildren. After high school she attended Fort Hays State 
University. She and Donnie were married on May 5th, 1959. They first 
lived in Dodge City, KS, where they had their two sons: Todd and Troy 
Schuster.&nbsp;

In 1971, the family moved to Hays, KS, and Ruth began teaching Sunday
 School at the local Methodist Church. She was a woman of faith and was 
also involved in the Church’s women’s group called Circles. After 
working at the Sunday school, Ruth taught at an early development center
 as a paraprofessional. She enjoyed assisting toddlers with special 
needs for over 15 years.

Ruth had a passion for children, and all who were close to her could 
see that working with kids was her true calling. She was absolutely 
adored by her six grandchildren. Even after she retired she continued to
 teach them, often engaging them in activities such as making homemade 
Play-Doh, coloring, and playing red light, green light (with trivia 
questions).&nbsp;

Ruth also had a knack for baking, often delighting her relatives with
 her famous “ice box pudding” and “red hot salad.” She and Donnie spent 
their life together adventuring, they enjoyed traveling with their sons 
and collecting souvenir plates from the many places they visited. They 
also enjoyed attending Fort Hays State athletic events for the remainder
 of their time in Hays.

In 2019, Donnie and Ruth moved to Kansas City to be closer to their 
sons and grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s 
various activities including cheer, theatre, music, volleyball, and 
soccer.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Helen Miller, and
 her daughter-in-law: Michelle Schuster. She is survived by her husband 
of 62 years: Donnie Schuster, her brother: Max Miller, her children: 
Todd Schuster and Troy Schuster (Missy Schuster); her cousin: Bernie 
Helget (Bob Helget), and her six grandchildren: Katrina (24), Brandon 
(23), Ashley (21), Cassidy (21), Kylie (19), and Colin (17).

Services will be held on Monday, November 22nd at Longview Funeral 
Home &amp; Cemetery. The visitation service will begin at 1pm followed 
by a funeral service at 2pm, and burial service at 3pm.&nbsp;

Ruth Elaine Schuster

Casey “Scott” (Davis) Barnum was born on June 16, 1960, in Casper WY. He 
took his first breath in heaven on November 17, 2021, at Swedish Medical
 Center, Englewood, CO. 
As a child, Scott lived in Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder, and moved to 
Colby in 1972 when his parents, John and Shirley Barnum, were called to 
the Colby Presbyterian Church. He graduated from Colby High School in 
1979 and bought his first house the following summer. Remodeling and 
renting houses became a business as he also worked for Colby Glass. He 
met Jan Coffey Thanksgiving of 1985 where someone asked Scott how many 
houses he had. Jan thought he was crazy when he answered “14”….. little 
did she know! Scott and Jan married on July 12, 1986, in Colby, KS. 
Scott and Jan opened a music store, “The Music Staff” together in 1986. 
In 1992, Scott started working as an auto and home adjuster for American
 Family Insurance, balancing the growing rental business with Jan at his
 side. Their first child, Amanda, was born that year. He was a proud new
 dad and was more so with the addition of a son, Matt, in 1996. Scott 
was involved with his kids, attending ball games, scout meetings, 
school, and church events as much as he could. In 2003, Scott was proud 
to complete his pilot’s license. In recent years, he was an active 
member of the Barbershop Tumbleweed Chorus and the High Plains 
Barbershop Chorus. 
After his family, the church was his passion. Scott was a member of 
Colby United Methodist Church and became a Lay Leader, holding that 
position for several years. He then became a Lay Speaker, filling in for
 absent pastors both in his home church and others. He conducted several
 memorial services for family friends and was honored to officiate at 
his son’s wedding last June. Scott helped set up the Colby UMC live 
radio broadcast that has run for over twenty years, and he continued as a
 sound technician as often as he could. He helped with different mission
 projects, helping with Habitat for Humanity in Cheyenne, WY, Great 
Plains Camps, local missions, and church maintenance projects. Most 
recently, Scott was Hays District Director of Lay Servant Ministries and
 on the Great Plains Conference Board of Trustees, both of which he 
enjoyed immensely. Helping others is perhaps what he was most well known
 for. 
Scott retired from American Family after twenty-five years and worked 
full-time on the rental business. Over the most recent years, he worked 
to see his dream of building a lake house at Grand Lake in Oklahoma come
 true, drawing his own house plans, overseeing major construction, and 
doing the detail work himself. The house was built on the site of an 
original family property, and Scott worked diligently to retain the 
sentimental value he and others placed on the original components he was
 able to incorporate into the design of the house. He spent as much time
 there as he could and planned to retire there full-time in the future. 
Scott was preceded in death by his biological father, J.G. Davis and 
wife Ellen. Survivors include his wife, Jan (Coffey); daughter Amanda, 
of Meade, KS; son Matt (Ashley), of Talmage, NE; parents, John and 
Shirley Barnum, of Colby; brothers Grant (Carol), of Osage Beach, MO, 
Evan (Regena), of Colby and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and 
friends that he loved without ceasing. 
Services will be held at the Colby United Methodist Church on Monday, 
November 22, 2021, at 10:30 am. Visitation will be held at Baalmann 
Mortuary Sunday, November 21, 2021, from 4-7 pm.
