Brenda
Burgardt, 60, Hays, died Friday, October 18, 2024 at Wesley Medical Center in
Wichita.

She was born
September 10, 1964 in Hays, the daughter of Fredoline P. “Fritz” and Rosaline
“Rosie” (Hoff) Burgardt.&nbsp; In 1983, Brenda
graduated from High School and she worked at Hadley Hospital, Sykes, Hays
International and Wal-Mart.&nbsp; She was a
member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.&nbsp; Brenda was an avid reader and crocheter and
used her craft skills to help others. She would crochet lap blankets and totes
for the local nursing homes. She enjoyed country music, baking and online
shopping. 

Survivors
include her brothers, Alfred Burgardt and wife Kathy of Hays and Larry Burgardt
of Moore, OK, her sister, Mary Leer and husband Mike of Manhattan, two nephews,
one niece and several great nephews and nieces. 

She was
preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law, Zoni Burgardt.

Mass of
Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at St.
Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 9:00 am until service
time and recitation of the rosary will be at 9:30 am, all at the church. &nbsp;Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society

Brenda Burgardt

Ada (Sally) Louise Strutt, of Hays, KS and formerly of
Stockton, KS, passed away with family at her side on October 18, 2024, at Hays
Medical Center, at the age of 83. She was born on August 29, 1941, in Charles
City, Iowa. She was raised mostly in Stockton by her parents Orville and Maxine
(Gilles) Kenworthy. Ada married Joseph “Joe” Strutt on May 20, 1959, in
Stockton. They made their home in Stockton and were blessed with two children:
Dale and Donna. Eventually, they moved to their small farm outside of Stockton
which they enjoyed and loved for years with friends and family.

Ada graduated from Stockton High School in 1959. She worked
for the Rooks County Treasurers Office and Register of Deeds for several years
as well as a clerk at Coast to Coast, J-Mart, and Dollar General. Outside of
her professional life, Ada found joy in bowling, swimming, and attending
workout classes, where she embraced fitness and fun with enthusiasm. She had a
passion for auctions, often returning home with unique treasures for keeps or
selling at flea markets. Ada was very caring and often went out of her way to
help or care for others.

Ada truly loved her family, particularly the grandchildren.
She attended many of their sports events and graduation ceremonies. She really
loved the holidays when the children and grandchildren would come and stay at
the farm where the house would be filled with love and joy. Ada enjoyed
preparing the meals, particularly Thanksgiving making sure that everyone had
their favorite dish.

Ada is survived by her children, Dale (Mary) Strutt of Mead,
CO and Donna (Jerry) Jones of Kearney, MO; brother, Gary Barry of Indianola,
IA; five grandchildren, Sarah Magee, Casey (Cierra) Jones, Jon (Karissa) Jones,
Kaitlyn Strutt, Colton (Jasmine) Strutt; and eight great-grandchildren, Conner,
Evie, Jadeyn, Kyleigh, Kollin, Charlotte, Rhett, and Harper, all who will
forever carry her spirit and love in their hearts. She will be deeply missed
but fondly remembered for her kindness, laughter, and joy she brought to every
gathering.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Orville and Maxine;
husband, Joe Strutt; brothers, Dale Barry, Cary Barry; and step-sister Marilee
DeBey.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, October 23,
2024, at 11AM at Ash Rock Cemetery in Woodston, KS. A family receiving time
will be held on Tuesday 6-7:30PM at the funeral home in Stockton.

Ada (Sally) Louise Strutt

Warren Eugene (Gene) Boomer, age 79 of Hideaway,
Texas, passed away on October 9, 2024.&nbsp; Gene was born March 30, 1945, in
Portis, Kansas, to Viola and Warren Boomer.

He spent his childhood on the farm outside of
Osborne, Kansas, and graduated from Osborne High School in 1963.&nbsp; Gene
attended Kansas State University and earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine
in 1967. He was united in marriage to Connie Nichols in June 1966 and to this
union, two children were born, Scott Gene and Jodi Kaye. &nbsp; He was united
in marriage to Marsha May, in June 1997.

Gene practiced veterinary medicine in Bern and
Sabetha, Kansas for over 25 years.&nbsp; He eventually left private practice
and worked for Monsanto and Church &amp; Dwight traveling to dairy farms
worldwide, providing consultation on dairy cattle nutrition.&nbsp;&nbsp;He and
Marsha spent time in Gainesville, FL, Visalia, CA, and eventually settled in
Rockwall, TX in 2010. He retired in 2021.&nbsp; Gene loved to travel, bird
hunt, play golf, and spend time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Boomer,
parents, Viola and Warren Boomer, sister, Kathy Palmer, and brother, Richard
Boomer.

Gene is survived by his wife Marsha;
&nbsp;children &nbsp;Jodi Foerschler (Josh), Ann Boomer Minson (Doug),
&nbsp;Tara Williams, &nbsp;Kevin May; &nbsp;grandchildren Tyler Boomer, Kaden
Boomer, Ryan Foerschler, Olivia Foerschler, Mia Foerschler, Sophia Williams,

Zerr, 88, of Oakley, died Sunday, October 20, 2024. He was born July 24, 1936,
in rural Park, KS, to Christopher and Barbara Zerr. Willie attended country
school and graduated from Park High School. He then served in the United States
Army from 1955-1957. Willie was united in marriage to Louella Dinkel on January
8, 1958, and to this union six children were born. He was a life-long farmer
and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the
Oakley Country Club. 

Willie was
preceded in death by his parents; brothers Peter and Augustine; sons, Chris
(1985) and Scott (1967); son-in-law Doug Hills (2018) and granddaughter Chelsey
Scott (2001). 

He is survived
by his wife of 66 years, Louella; children, Junelle Hills, Denise (Rick)
Gillespie, Alan (Challis) Zerr, David (Suzy) Zerr and Brenda (Steve) Scott;

William D. Zerr

Harold Auman
Plymell, 98, Hays, died Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Via Christi Village.

He was born October 15, 1926 in Pattonsburg, Missouri the son
of Herbert Otto and Irene Leona (Cornett) Plymell.&nbsp; On December 23, 1944 he was united in
marriage to Jessie Willodean Royston in Troy, Kansas, and they celebrated 78
years of marriage before she preceded him in death on June 26, 2023. &nbsp;Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946
and was stationed in Japan during World War II.&nbsp; In 1949, Harold and Willodean and their son,
Larry moved to the Sheldon, Missouri area to farm.&nbsp; Shirley, Ron, and Dean were all born in
Lamar, Missouri.&nbsp; In 1964, the family began
custom harvesting, which they did before moving to Scott City, Kansas in 1967.

Harold and Willodean moved to Hays, Kansas in 1974, and they
continued the custom harvesting until 1977.&nbsp;
In 1978, they began over the road trucking with their own semi and
enjoyed seeing the country during their many years of trucking.&nbsp; They were both drivers until they retired in
1990.&nbsp; Harold continued harvesting with
his family for 20 more years.&nbsp; He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Hays, stayed informed about
current events and delighted in knowing about the lives of his children and
grandchildren.&nbsp; 

Survivors include his children, Larry Plymell of Hays,
Shirley and Ron Suppes of Dighton, Ron and Carol Plymell of Assaria, and Dean
and Bonnie Plymell of Colorado Springs, CO, a sister, Rosmarie Deevers of
Cameron, MO, eight grandchildren, Molly Legleiter (Shawn) of Hays, Shandi
Westergard (Chris) of Scott City,&nbsp; Sherry
Kinderknecht (Norman) of Colby, Courtney Britton of Goodland, Shayne Suppes
(Amanda Ruth) of Scott City, Rusty Plymell of Central City, CO, Jeremy Plymell
(Shannon) of Independence, and Aaron Plymell (Diana) of Park City, eleven great
grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law,

Harold Auman Plymell

Peter
J. 'Junior' Billinger, passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of
90 in Hays, Kansas. Born on March 4, 1934, in Hays, to Peter and Martha
(Kuntzsch) Billinger.



Pete devoted his life to his family, his faith. He was not only an entrepreneur
who owned and operated his own printing company but also a man deeply committed
to the Catholic faith, serving his community as an active member of Immaculate
Heart of Mary Church.



A devoted husband, Peter, first married Carol June (Ernst) on June 24, 1953 in Hays.
She preceded him in death on December 30, 1987. Peter was blessed to find
companionship with Edna (Jacobs) Wolf Billinger and was married on April 12,
1996, in Russell, Kansas.

 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Edna, and their blended family, which
includes his son Jeff Billinger and his wife Phyllis of Russell, Kansas;
daughter, Beth Zweifel and her husband Bradley of Waldo, Kansas; a
stepdaughter, Linda Thyfault of Hays, Kansas; and two stepsons, Wesley Wolf and
his wife Carolyn of Yoder, Kansas, and Terry Wolf of Hays, Kansas. He also
leaves behind his step daughter-in-law, Betty Wolf of Hays, Kansas, as well as

Peter's educational journey took him through St. Joseph's Military Academy,
from which he graduated in 1952. This foundation instilled in him the values of
discipline and commitment, qualities that were evident in every aspect of his
life. His passion extended beyond his professional endeavors; he found pleasure
in yard work, flower gardening, and maintaining a pristine fishpond. His love
for baseball led him to manage the Russell Babe Ruth Baseball program as well
as coach the team for several years and was proud to be able to coach his son
Jeff during that time.



Peter was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert and Donnie
Billinger; infant sister, Anita; a step grandson, Kristopher Thyfault and a
stepson, Rick Wolf and a step daughter-in-law, Karen Wolf.



Private family graveside services will be held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in
Russell, Kansas.

Pete devoted his life to his family, his faith. He was not only an entrepreneur
who owned and operated his own printing company but also a man deeply committed
to the Catholic faith, serving his community as an active member of Immaculate
Heart of Mary Church.

A devoted husband, Peter, first married Carol June (Ernst) on June 24, 1953 in Hays.
She preceded him in death on December 30, 1987. Peter was blessed to find
companionship with Edna (Jacobs) Wolf Billinger and was married on April 12,
1996, in Russell, Kansas. 

He is survived by his beloved wife, Edna, and their blended family, which
includes his son Jeff Billinger and his wife Phyllis of Russell, Kansas;
daughter, Beth Zweifel and her husband Bradley of Waldo, Kansas; a
stepdaughter, Linda Thyfault of Hays, Kansas; and two stepsons, Wesley Wolf and
his wife Carolyn of Yoder, Kansas, and Terry Wolf of Hays, Kansas. He also
leaves behind his step daughter-in-law, Betty Wolf of Hays, Kansas, as well as
the joy of fifteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren.

Wayne
Scott Fleenor, 69, a beloved member of the Hays community, passed away on
October 16, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Born on
September 15, 1955, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Donald and Doris (Ulrich)
Fleenor, Wayne lived a life full of joy, adventure, and family.

Wayne was known for his playful spirit and his love of bringing joy to everyone
around him. Every day with Wayne felt like an adventure, whether racing
go-karts, splashing in the pool, or building a pond in the front yard just for
fun. No holiday or summer day was complete without candy, popsicles, and ice
cream; whether the stockpile was meant more for the grandkids or himself
remains up for debate! He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into
unforgettable memories, ensuring everyone left with a smile and a story. Family
gatherings were especially important to Wayne, whether they were lounging by
the pool or huddled around the TV to cheer on the Kansas City Chiefs. Laughter,
good food, and joy always flowed freely, reminders that for Wayne, the best
moments in life were the ones spent with the people he loved most.

Wayne’s sense of adventure didn’t stop there. He had always dreamed of flying,
which became a reality when he bought his helicopter. Taking to the skies
became one of Wayne’s greatest joys and proudest achievements, along with
owning and operating his own business, Fleenor Dirt Construction. His love for
his family and adventure will always be cherished by everyone who had the
privilege of knowing him.

Wayne leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly. He is survived by
his sons, Michael (Sase) Fleenor and Jesse (Whitney) Fleenor, along with his
daughters, Sarah (Mark) Cain and Kristina Befort (Jay Simpson), all residing in
Hays. His brother, Lee Fleenor (Laurie) of Hays, and sister, Jean Dreiling of
Lawrence, Kansas, will forever hold fond memories of their times together.
Wayne’s family also includes his beloved grandchildren: Jaxon, Roqua, Jules,
Jared, Collin, Amari, Leah, Andrew, Summer, Skyler, and Hattie. Each one of
them carries a piece of Wayne in their hearts and stories.

Wayne has rejoined his parents and sister, Elaine Moyer, who preceded him in
death. Though he may be gone from our sight, let’s remember him with a smile, a
hearty chuckle, and perhaps a moment spent reminiscing about those

BobJane 'Bobbi' Dreiling, loving wife and mother, left this
world but not our hearts on October 16, 2024. Bobbi, or also known as BJ, was
born October 22, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas and was the only child of Robert and
Marjorie Barrows.

Bobbi attended Fort Hays State University (FHSU) where she
was an active member of the Tri Sigma sorority and co-chaired the Republican
Party for Ellis County. While at FHSU Bobbi met the love of her life, Richard
Lee Dreiling, and the two were married on August 5, 1967.

The two moved to Wichita and raised three incredible
children and eight grandchildren which provided her with another nickname,
Bobba. Her stewardess as a mother was one of dedication and faith ensuring that
her devout Catholic faith was passed on and instilled into her children. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert “Red”
Marvin Barrows and Marjorie “Skip” Barrows (McLeod). She is survived by her
husband, Richard Dreiling; and children, Juliette Anne Zumwalt (Jon) of
Houston, Texas, Robert Dominic “RD” Dreiling (Sheena) of Valley Center, Kansas,
and Nickolas Lee Dreiling (Hannah) of Wichita, Kansas. Her beautiful
grandchildren, Baleigh, Laila, Dominic, Joshua, Norah, Olivia, Maximilian, and
Parker.

A rosary for the repose of her soul will occur on Monday,
October 21 at 5:30 PM at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Her mass of
Christian burial and 80th birthday celebration will take place at 10:00 AM on

Robert 'Bob' Steerman, 68, of Gove, Kansas, passed
away on October 15, 2024, at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Born on
February 21, 1956, in Quinter, Kansas, Bob was the son of Russell and Earlene
(Bretton) Steerman.

Bob grew up in Gove, where he attended Gove Grade School and
graduated from Wheatland High School in May 1974. His passion for mechanics led
him to earn an associate degree in diesel mechanics from Goodland Vo-Tech. He
began his career at Shaw Motors, but his dedication to his community soon found
him serving as a road grader operator for the Gove County Road Department, a
role he cherished and held for most of his life. After retiring, he continued
to stay active, working on a ranch alongside his brother David until 2022.
Above all, Bob's heart was filled with love for his children and grandchildren,
who brought him immense joy and pride throughout his life.

Bob is survived by his son Dusty (Brenda) Steerman of Gove,
Kansas; daughter Shelby Getz of Grainfield, Kansas; grandchildren Austin
Hawkins, Layla Steerman, Leeta and Junior Gorczyca, and Layne, Layton, and Sage
Getz; brother David (Diane) Steerman of Wamego, Kansas; and sister Deborah
(Dale) Heideman of Alta Vista, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A public visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19,
from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the
Gove Community Building, located at 305 Broad St., Gove, KS 67736. Burial will

Marcos, Texas and former Gorham, Kansas, resident died on Saturday, October 12,
2024, in San Marcos, Texas.&nbsp;

Sammie was born on July 19, 1928,
in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Samuel T. and Lavita (Elliott)
Steward.&nbsp; She grew up in the Gorham and Russell, Kansas, area and
graduated from Gorham High School.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united
in marriage to Melvin George Bricker on February 21, 1947, in Russell,
Kansas.&nbsp; She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker and enjoyed caring
for her family.&nbsp; She also enjoyed listening to music, playing the organ
and scrapbooking.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Surviving family include her son
Craig Bricker and daughter Carol Wisseman both of San Marcos, Texas and 5
grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Springs, died Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell
surrounded by her family.

She was born September 25, 1947 in Hays, Kansas to Joe S.
and Pauline (Karlin) Dinkel.&nbsp; She graduated from Victoria High
School.&nbsp; On August 5, 1967 she married Robert Dean Brown and moved to
Denver, Sharon Springs, and later back to Victoria.&nbsp; He preceded her in
death on November 15, 2017.&nbsp; Lucy worked as a county clerk and bank
teller.&nbsp; Her love of caring for others drew her to become a CNA and later
a CMA.&nbsp; Her career lasted for 35 years between St. John’s Nursing Home and
Via Christi Village.&nbsp; She was a member of the Basilica of St. Fidelis in
Victoria.&nbsp; She cherished time with her family and loved ones, and she
enjoyed baking. &nbsp;Her specialties were bierocks, blackberry kuchen and pies
along with dilly bread.&nbsp; Other things that filled her spare time were
crocheting, rug making, reading, and watching Hallmark movies.

Survivors include a son, Michael Brown (Blythe) of Victoria,
three daughters, La Donna Braun (Frederick) of Bunker Hill, Kimberly Brown and
companion (Kenneth Kuntzsch) of Russell, and Bobbie Phlieger (James) of
Plainville, two brothers, Delmar Dinkel of Hays and Kenny Dinkel (Margie) of
Plainville, two sisters, Dorothy Jacobs and Donna Deckman (Joe), both of Hays,
a sister-in-law, Peggy Dinkel of Hays, 12 grandchildren and ten great
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert

Richard
Polcyn, 77, of Russell, Kansas died on Monday, October 14, 2024, at St Francis
Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.


Richard was born on November 14, 1946, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Florian
“Mike” Joseph and Clemence “Clem” Katherine (Mudd) Polcyn. He grew up on the
family farm south of Gorham, Kansas and then the family moved to Russell, in
1958. He graduated from Russell High School in 1965 and continued his education
at Pittsburg State University graduating in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in
Industrial Technology.&nbsp; Richard was a
member of the United States Army through the Reserve Officer Training Corp,
receiving a comission as a 2nd Lieutenant and stationed at White
Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. &nbsp;After
leaving the Army, Richard moved to Phoenix, Arizona and went to work for Ford
Motor Company before moving back to the family farm in 1975.&nbsp; Richard was married to Carol Moyer and
Rebecca McKim.

While
farming was something he was good at, his passion was always flying so in 1980,
Richard started Rich’s Air Service, a charter company that eventually grew to
include fuel sales, and flight instruction in Russell and then later in Hays,
Ks.

He was
a lifelong member of St.Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, the Knights of
Columbus, Russell Elks Lodge and American Legion Post #99. Richard served on
several boards including the Farm Bureau and looked forward to meeting with
local and state government officials to talk about policy and government
programs that could help Kansas farmers.&nbsp;



Surviving family include his daughters, Vickie Polcyn-Scott (Glen) of Wichita,
Kansas and Jennifer Rogers (Robin) of St. George, Kansas. Four grandchildren,
Alex Cunningham (Dylan), Andrew Rogers, Kinsley Scott, and Kallen Scott. One
great-grandson, Dutton Cunningham and his sister &nbsp;Jean Crawford of Natoma. He was preceded in
death by his parents and son Alan Polcyn.

A

William 'Bill' Cooley, born on October 27, 1958, in
Montvale, New Jersey, left this world on October 14, 2024, at his home,
surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Bill's journey was rich with
the type of dedication and spirit that few possess. A hard worker, he carved
out a successful career in residential and commercial construction, where his
skills shone brightly, forming the foundation of countless structures and the
livelihoods of many.

Bill's life was not only about work; it was also a tapestry of
cherished memories woven with threads of laughter, friendship, and delightful
moments shared over burgers and beers at the Sip 'N Spin. The resonance of his
jovial spirit could often be found there, where he relished time with family
and friends, finding joy in both the grand gestures and simple pleasures of
life.

An avid sports fan, Bill’s enthusiasm sprung from his New Jersey
roots, where he developed an unwavering loyalty to the NY Yankees but by and
through his Kansas family he could be caught cheering on the KC Royals. His
ardor extended to his love for the Kansas Jayhawks and the Fighting Irish of
Notre Dame, capturing the hearts of those who gathered with him to cheer on
their teams. With every game, he instilled a sense of camaraderie, proudly
embracing the highs and lows of competition, unless the Miami Dolphins made him
cry and utter those all too familiar words: Next year will be our year.

However, the true essence of Bill's heart lay in the radiant love
he had for his family. His seven grandchildren—Alexis, Raelynn, Ariah, London,
Aiden, Aleeah, and Matthew—were the treasures of his life, the jewels that
illuminated his days with joy and laughter. Bill took immense pride in being a
grandfather, tirelessly creating memories that would live on in stories told
and moments shared.

He is survived by his devoted wife, LaVon Buhrle Cooley, along
with his sons, Brian (Joann) Cooley and Sean Cooley, and daughters, Cassandra
Buhrle and Chelsey (Josh) Schroeder. These family members remain a testament to
the love he cultivated throughout his life, each sharing in the memories of
laughter, support, and enduring affection that Bill gave so freely.

Though he will be deeply missed, Bill has been preceded in death
by his beloved parents, Chester and Catherine (Bowden) Cooley, and two
brothers, Robert and Kevin Cooley. Their memories live on, a gentle reminder of
the family bonds that shaped him.

As loved ones gather to honor Bill’s life, they will do so at
Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory in Hays, Kansas, beginning with
visitation on October 18, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a prayer service

Joseph's Catholic Church on October 19, commencing at 10:00 AM. Burial will
take place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Schoenchen, Kansas.

William 'Bill' Cooley

Daniel Wade Zahn, 61, Hoxie, Kansas, passed away October 11, 2024, from a
tragic heavy equipment&nbsp;accident in Sheridan County.

Dan was born August 31, 1963, to Marvel and Irene (Lytle) Zahn in
Bottineau, North Dakota.&nbsp; He was an avid basketball player. Through the
years many people were impressed with his sports and work ethic due to him
having only one hand as the result of a farm accident when he was four years
old. According to Dan he never had a disability he couldn’t conquer. He was a
determined kind of guy. After Dan finished high school in Westhope, North
Dakota, he joined the workforce as a heavy equipment operator. Soon after, he
met his first wife Nicole Roy. To this union two daughters, Shelby and Megan
were born.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

After his divorce Dan settled in Bogue, Kansas, where he started his
heavy equipment operating company, Dan’s Dirt Works, in 2006. He considered it
one of his greatest work accomplishments. Among his favorite jobs were building
locations, moving rigs and setting tank batteries. With his sense of humor, he
kept the job site very interesting.&nbsp; All
who knew Dan will never forget his infectious laughter, smart mouth and entertaining&nbsp;comments.
Dan loved sports, especially basketball. As a high school player, he was better
than most, scoring double digits. His love for sports continued as he took
special pride in his children and grandchildren’s sporting activities. 

Later in 2008 Dan met the love of his life Donata Geerdes. They were
married November 8, 2009. For the next 10 years the couple resided in Bogue.
Soon after Dan sold his business, he returned to his old roots working at the
Hoxie Feedyard.&nbsp;Dan enjoyed taking his grandchildren around the feedlot
and showing them his day-to-day work life. Dan was known to be able to do it
all at the feedyard: from feeding to mechanical work and heavy equipment
operating. 

Dan was preceded in death by his parents Marvel and Irene Zahn; his
sister-in-law Jerilyn Zahn; his brothers-in-law Rickie Gust and Leonard
Marcotte; his niece Amber Gust; and his great-nephew Boston Glueckert.
Survivors left to mourn his passing are his wife, Donata, of the home;
daughters Shelby (Nick) Geist and Megan (Cameron) Ghumm, both of WaKeeney; his
step-children: Cody (Crystal) Wolf, Hays, Matt (Jenna) Wolf, Grinnell, Chelsie
Wolf (Roger Billips), Bogue; his sisters Janell Gust, Claycomo, Missouri and
Susan O’Neil, Drayton, North Dakota; his brothers Teri Zahn of Westhope, North
Dakota and Bruce (Christy) Zahn of Wichita, Kansas; his mother-in-law Rosie
(Dennis) Hayes of Colby; his sister-in-law Brenda (Ed) Gaccetta of&nbsp; Parker, Colorado; 12 grandchildren with
another one due in January; many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.

Daniel Wade Zahn

Gene Charles Jaco passed away
on October 15, 2024, in Hays, Kansas at the age of 92. He was born on September
27, 1932, to Harry Morris and Inez Marie (Brown) Jaco in Nowata, Oklahoma. He
was united in marriage to Phyllis Maureen Mock on June 17, 1951, at the First
Christian Church in Plainville and the couple was blessed with three children:
Jana, Michael, and Jill.

Before moving to Plainville
with his family in 1938, Gene lived in St John, Kansas and on the Saline River
near Fairport, Kansas. He attended Plainville schools and graduated in May
1950. He loved sports, lettering in football, basketball and track. His Senior
year he made the 1st Team All State.

At the age of 6 he met the
love of his life, Phyllis Maureen Mock. They grew up together and spent lots of
time riding bikes and horses, swimming, skating, going to the movies on
Saturday and just enjoying life. They were blessed with 70 years of marriage.

Gene attended Fort Hays State
University where he lettered four years as left halfback on offense and safety
on defense, returning punts and kick offs. During those four years in college,
Gene worked at Gogleman Ford Co. in the body shop and planned on teaching math,
industrial arts, physical education and driver education. His first teaching
and coaching job was in Florence, KS where he taught industrial arts and driver
education. In the summer he coached Legion baseball. However, due to an
accident that hurt his back, he took a desk job in Wichita at Boeing for a
brief time before a new teaching opportunity arrived. In 1958 he signed a
contract to teach and coach in Woodston, KS teaching industrial arts, math,
drivers ed and physical education. In his third year he purchased a farm 6
miles south of Woodston. Phyllis and Gene began to milk cows, raise chickens
and hogs and planted a large garden. They sold the products their farm produced
for extra income. 

Gene moved his family to
Plainville in 1964 when the state began closing small high schools. He taught
math, physical education and driver’s education and coached boys’ basketball
and track. He stopped coaching two years later and began farming more. He
served as the athletic director at PHS, was a commissioner for two leagues and
served on the state committee. He stopped teaching in 1983 and became a Rooks
County commissioner in 1984, where he served until 1992. He continued to farm
and ranch until 2006. 

Gene is survived by his three
children: Jana (Ray) Kuhn of Overland Park, KS, Michael (Bonnie) Jaco of
Springfield, CO, Jill (Mark) Brin of Godley, TX; five grandchildren, Jesse
(Jena) Jaco, Braxton Brin, Adam Kuhn, Aaron (Stephanie) Kuhn, Amber Kuhn; and four
great-grandchildren: Tyler Jaco, Style Brin, Grayson and Callahan Kuhn.

Gene joins in his heavenly
home, his wife, Phyllis; parents, Harry and Inez Jaco; brother, John W. Jaco
Sr.; and nephew, John W. Jaco, Jr.

A Funeral Service will be held
on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Plainville at 11AM.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, 6PM until 7:30PM at the funeral
home in Plainville.

served as the athletic director at PHS, was a commissioner for two leagues and
served on the state committee. He stopped teaching in 1983 and became a Rooks
County commissioner in 1984, where he served until 1992. He continued to farm
and ranch until 2006. Gene is survived by his three
children: Jana (Ray) Kuhn of Overland Park, KS, Michael (Bonnie) Jaco of
Springfield, CO, Jill (Mark) Brin of Godley, TX; five grandchildren, Jesse
(Jena) Jaco, Braxton Brin, Adam Kuhn, Aaron (Stephanie) Kuhn, Amber Kuhn; and four
great-grandchildren: Tyler Jaco, Style Brin, Grayson and Callahan Kuhn.Gene joins in his heavenly
home, his wife, Phyllis; parents, Harry and Inez Jaco; brother, John W. Jaco

19, of Wilson, Kansas, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at
the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas, with her loving family by her
side.

Grace was born
November 17, 2004, in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp;
She was the oldest of three children born to Todd and Christa
(Whitebird) Bohnen.&nbsp; From the age of
infant to second grade, Grace’s family lived in Bel Aire, Kansas.&nbsp; They moved to Wilson, where she grew up and
graduated from Wilson High School in the Class of 23. Grace was a leader among
her peers, family and within the community. She was class president for 3
years, cheer captain, and involved in several sports and school activities
where she led with passion and tenacity. She had an amazing spirit, contagious smile,
and a drive to always be the best version of herself. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Grace loved to be
surrounded by her close friends and family. She brought so much joy and
laughter everywhere she went. She was a leader, but also felt the need to take
care of people, whether it be her brothers, friends, or complete strangers.
She’ll be remembered for the love that she shared, bravery, and fearlessness to
live life to the fullest. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Charles John “Charlie” Dreiling, age
91, of Victoria, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Via
Christi Village Care Center in Hays, Kansas.

He was born on September 17, 1933, in Victoria, Kansas to Alphonse J. and
Sophie (Sander) Dreiling.&nbsp; He was married to Nancy (Wheaton) for 23 years
and later separated.

&nbsp;He was a member of The Basilica of Saint Fidelis and Knights of Columbus both
of Victoria.&nbsp; He was a U S Army veteran and served during the Korean
Conflict. &nbsp;

Charles grew up in Victoria, and graduated from Victoria High School in 1951.
He then&nbsp;went to St. Benedict’s College in Atchison for a year before
joining the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. After serving, he returned
home and went to Fort Hays State University graduating in Business
Administration in 1959.

He moved to Denver, CO and worked for Shell Oil Co. where he met his former
wife, Nancy.&nbsp; He worked for Shell for many years and eventually took him
to Houston, Texas. While staying with the oil industry, he later moved to Dallas,
TX where he remained for 23 years before moving back to Victoria.

From a young age, Charlie was an athletic individual with a special love
for baseball. He loved to play, attend and watch many sporting events
throughout his life. He was a big supporter of his children’s sports from
coaching his sons’ baseball teams to cheering on his daughters in many sports
but specifically soccer.&nbsp; In Charlie’s later years, his pride and joy were
his three granddaughters, [Charlie’s Angels]. He especially loved attending
their sporting events and cheering them on, as well.

Charles is survived by his children, Tami Robben and husband, Jason “Jake”,
Hays, Ks; Debbie Dreiling and spouse, Adrienne Dreiling, Gardena, CA; his
grandchildren, Isabel Robben, Maggie Robben, and Caroline Robben; his brother, Jim
Dreiling, Parker, CO; his sister, Theresa Ellis and husband, Clark, Lafayette,
CO; brother-in-law, Will Dell, Littleton, CO ; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy
Dreiling, Hays, KS; Jeanette Dreiling, Victoria, KS; and several nieces and

Robin Dawn (Campbell) Henman, of Ellis, Kansas died Sunday,
October 13, 2024 at HaysMed - Hays.&nbsp; She was born March 20, 1958, in
Gunnison, Colorado. Her parents are Albert B. Campbell (College Station, TX)
and Patricia (Welling) Campbell Albrecht (Hays, KS). Robin was preceded in
death by her grandparents Albert Beryl Campbell and Roberta (Richardson)
Campbell, and Sarah (Lacey) Welling and SA Welling, as well as her stepfather,
Gerhard “Gary” Albrecht. Robin is survived by her husband, Perry Henman; son, Isaac
Henman (Kenzie); daughter, Sarah Finger (Ian); and grandchildren Jaxon,
Remington, Raylan Henman, and Halle Finger, all of Ellis. She is also survived
by her brothers Austin Blaine Campbell (Marcie) of Madison, WI; Flint Campbell
(Carol) of Arnold, KS; Kyle Campbell (Bun) of Montgomery, TX, sister in law,
Jackie Henman, Ellis, KS; and step-sisters Vicki Albrecht of Hays, KS; and
Tracy Albrecht-Ilic (Borna) of Inglewood, CA, along with multiple nieces and
nephews.

Robin grew up in Gunnison and Delta, CO, Roswell, NM, Scottsdale,
AZ, and graduated high school in Manhattan, KS. She received her Bachelor’s in
Education and Master’s in Special Education from Fort Hays State University.
Robin taught kindergarten in Palco, KS, special education at Roosevelt Grade
School in Hays, KS, and special education at Washington Grade School in Ellis,
KS. Robin was also the Ellis JH cheer coach for many years. She retired after
33 years of teaching but continued to substitute teach in the Hays and Ellis
school districts.

Robin was an active member of the Ellis United Methodist Church
(especially Seeker’s Club and High School Fifth Quarter), the Ellis PEO Chapter
F.O., and the Ellis Public Library Board. She enjoyed being a tour guide at the
Walter P. Chrysler Museum, Ellis County election worker, as well as being a
part-time cowgirl. Robin had great fun waitressing at the former GiGi’s Café in
Ellis and at Rosie’s Bar &amp; Grill in WaKeeney.

She also enjoyed her daily morning exercise group, FHSU sporting
events, babysitting grandchildren, warm beach vacations, sewing and quilting,
monthly ladies’ Bunko gatherings, line judging volleyball games, ticket-taking
at the visitors’ gate for EHS football games, baking dessert for Ellis Rotary
Club, running the Ellis JH and HS games score clock, and, last but not least,
changing the outdoor library sign for the monthly book club topic and quote.

Robin was a doer and organizer of all things family and friends.
She knew no strangers and lived life to fullest. To know Robin was to know
love. She was the greatest and most irreplaceable wife, mother, and Memaw,
always seen with a smile and a happy heart.

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at
the Ellis United Methodist Church, 1201 Washington Street Ellis, Kansas 67637
with a memorial visitation from 9 AM until service time at the church.

Bieker, 83, Hays, died Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Via Christi Village.

He was born
September 17, 1941 in Hays, the son of Fred and Mary (Klaus) Bieker.&nbsp; Dennis graduated from St. Mary’s of the
Plains High School in Dodge City and he graduated cum laude from St. Benedicts
in Atchison in 1963.&nbsp; He graduated with
his Juris Doctorate from Washburn Law School in 1966 and started practicing law
with Norbert Dreiling that same year.&nbsp; He
was a partner at Dreiling, Bieker, and Hoffman Law Office and has continued
practicing law for 58 years.&nbsp; His
professional memberships included the Kansas Ethics and Grievance Committee (20
years), Kansas Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the American
Trial Lawyers Association.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; 

On December
26, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marsha Ayres in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; He loved his family, practicing law, and
traveling.&nbsp; Dennis and Marsha enjoyed
family trips to all 50 states, vacationed annually and semi-annually in
Nantucket for 35 years, and he also traveled to Europe and South America with
his uncle, A.F. Bieker.&nbsp; He was an avid
reader of the Wall Street Journal, a KU basketball fan, enjoying many games at
Allen Fieldhouse, watched pro football, and listened to the Kingston Trio.&nbsp; Dennis was actively involved throughout the
community of Hays as a member of the Golden Belt Board of Directors
(1972-present), Airport Committee, Chairman of TMP Endowment (20 years), St.
Anthony Hospital Foundation Trustee, and Hays Medical Center Board of Directors
(1991-2017).&nbsp; 

Survivors
include his wife Marsha of Hays, his son, Chris Bieker and wife Leah of Denver,
CO, daughter, Lorrie Windholz and husband Greg of Lawrence, brother, Larry
Bieker and wife Barbara of Hays, sister, Nila Bieker of WaKeeney, four
grandchildren, Natalie Windholz, Lacey Windholz, Ivy Bieker, and Easton Bieker,
four sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral
services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Hays Memorial

in Atchison in 1963.&nbsp; He graduated with
his Juris Doctorate from Washburn Law School in 1966 and started practicing law
with Norbert Dreiling that same year.&nbsp; He
was a partner at Dreiling, Bieker, and Hoffman Law Office and has continued
practicing law for 58 years.&nbsp; His
professional memberships included the Kansas Ethics and Grievance Committee (20
years), Kansas Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the American
Trial Lawyers Association.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; On December
26, 1966, he was united in marriage to Marsha Ayres in Kansas City, Missouri.&nbsp; He loved his family, practicing law, and
traveling.&nbsp; Dennis and Marsha enjoyed
family trips to all 50 states, vacationed annually and semi-annually in
Nantucket for 35 years, and he also traveled to Europe and South America with
his uncle, A.F. Bieker.&nbsp; He was an avid
reader of the Wall Street Journal, a KU basketball fan, enjoying many games at
Allen Fieldhouse, watched pro football, and listened to the Kingston Trio.&nbsp; Dennis was actively involved throughout the
community of Hays as a member of the Golden Belt Board of Directors
(1972-present), Airport Committee, Chairman of TMP Endowment (20 years), St.
Anthony Hospital Foundation Trustee, and Hays Medical Center Board of Directors
(1991-2017).&nbsp; Survivors
include his wife Marsha of Hays, his son, Chris Bieker and wife Leah of Denver,
CO, daughter, Lorrie Windholz and husband Greg of Lawrence, brother, Larry
Bieker and wife Barbara of Hays, sister, Nila Bieker of WaKeeney, four
grandchildren, Natalie Windholz, Lacey Windholz, Ivy Bieker, and Easton Bieker,
four sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.He was
preceded in death by his parents.Funeral
services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, October 21, 2024 at Hays Memorial
Chapel Funeral Home with Fr. Earl Befort officiating.&nbsp; The family will receive friends from 10:00 am

Michael James Bird 1942-2024, a Hays, Kansas native and
long-time Grants Pass, Oregon lawyer, businessman, community leader, and
friend-to-many Michael J. Bird died peacefully at his home surrounded by family
on September 22, 2024.

Michael is survived by his
wife of 46 years, Katherine Bird; sons Sterling R. Bird and Ryal T. Bird;
stepsons Robert D. Christman and Ashlee R. Christman; siblings Martha Bird
Roberts; John T. Bird (Jo Ann Jennings), David (Lori); and Susan Bird; brother-in-law
Edmond Rodriguez (Giti), sisters-in-law Inez Doerter and Terry McDonald (Ed);
grandchildren Sterling Bird, Spencer Bird (Anabel), Sabrina Paton (Blake), Blue
Christman, Ali Christman, McKenna Christman, Abbie Christman, and Astrid
Ranneberg, in addition to several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by former wife Janet Lorimor Bird, parents Mike and Agnes Bird; and his beloved
grandparents.

Michael had an enterprising
spirit since his youth—business owner, lawyer, Oregon rock and silica
entrepreneur, business strategy and planning, among other interests—but his
love has been his volunteer community activities and good citizenship. In
recent years his special interests have included the arts field and working in
the local arts with his wife. He was an active member of several community
organizations and special causes. He was a devoted member of his church, St.
Anne Catholic Church in Grants Pass. He was also an initial and continuing
supporter of St. Rita's Retreat Center in Rogue River. He was a long-time
photographer, sharing his work far and wide.

Michael was born in 1942 at
St. Anthony Hospital in Hays, Kansas—where in 1917 his father was born. He
graduated from Hays High School in 1960. He earned a degree In Business
Administration/Minor in Economics at Fort Hays Kansas State University in 1968 and
completed his law degree at the University of Oregon in 1971.

While Michael lived away from
Hays and the Bird Family Farm for most of his adult life, he retained his
birthplace as an essential, continuing part of his life, legacy, and spirit.

Funeral services will be at
St. Anne Catholic Church on Monday, October 14. Rosary recitation will be at 10
a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. Presiding will be Fr. Michael
Walker. A reception will follow at 12 noon at Si Casa Flores restaurant, 202 NE
Beacon Drive, Grants Pass.

His family will have a
memorial service at the Bird Family Farm in the Spring of 2025, date to be
announced later.

Zane Asher Page, age 16, of Hays, Kansas passed away Saturday,
October 5, 2024 in rural Ellis County as the result of an automobile accident.
Zane was born on November 4, 2007, in Hays, Kansas to David Hilton Jr. and
Heather Page.

Zane was a bright and spirited student currently in the 11th grade
at Hays High School. Known for his infectious laughter and his unique sense of
humor—often delivering jokes at the most unexpected moments. He was a cherished
friend to many. Zane's passions included wrestling, fishing, and spending time
outdoors around campfires and barbecues.

&nbsp;He is survived by his parents, Heather Page of Hays, David
Hilton Jr. of Houston, Texas, Bryan and Erika Noone of Hays; Zane is also
mourned by his siblings: Garrett Page, Kelsi Page, Zoe Martin, Morgan Noone,
Myles Hilton, Hannah Page, Brandon Glaze, Aries Glaze, Kian Noone, and Logan
Noone; his grandparents, Lynnette Purvis, Dale and Shelly Haselhorst, and Tom
and Normadine Noone, all of Hays. Aunts and uncles, Brad and Jami Noone,

Jackie E. Benander, 92, of
Russell, Kansas, died on Sunday, October 06, 2024, at the Russell Regional
Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Jack was born on November 27,
1931, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Theodore A. and Isabelle Ann (Ladner)
Benander.&nbsp; He grew up in Topeka, Kansas,
and graduated from Topeka High School.&nbsp;
After high school Jack served his country and enlisted in the United
States Air Force and served during the Korean War era.&nbsp; After serving his country he worked for many
years for the telephone company as a telephone lineman.&nbsp; He met, fell in love and was united in
marriage to Ruth Ann Pierce on May 31, 1991, in Denton, Texas. He was a member
of the Church of Christ of Russell, American Legion Post #309 of Luray, Kansas,
and V.F.W. Post #6240 of Russell.&nbsp; Jack
enjoyed having a good time with his buddies at the American Legion and V.F.W.&nbsp; 

Surviving family include his
daughters Beverly K. Bickery and husband Bill of Bloomington, Illinois, Debra
S. Freeman of Tool, Texas and Laura Benander of Arizona; his son Jimmie Dean
Furst and wife Stella of Baytown, Texas, sister Darlene Smith of Hays, Kansas;
9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.&nbsp;


He was preceded in death by his
parents, wife Ruth on December 21, 2016, son Michael E. Benander and brother
Larry R. Benander.

Phillip George Gibbs, Jr. 71, died
on Monday, September 23, 2024, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Phil was born on December 16,
1952, in Jamestown, New York, the son of Phillip George, Sr. and Betty Jane
(Mason) Gibbs.&nbsp; He grew up in Frewsburg,
New York and graduated from Frewsburg High School.&nbsp; He also lived in Cloverdale, Indiana and
Indianapolis, Indiana for many years before moving to Russell, Kansas in 2019,
working as a heavy machinery mover and millwright.&nbsp; He met, fell in love and was united in
marriage to Linda Lorena Harmon on August 22, 2023, in Green Castle,
Indiana.&nbsp; He enjoyed his dogs, hunting,
fishing and gun collecting.&nbsp; Most of all
he enjoyed spending time with his wife Linda, in which his entire world
revolved around.

Surviving family include his
loving wife Linda of the home and many longtime friends from New York and
Indiana and new friends in Russell, Kansas.

Phillip George Gibbs, Jr

Shirley Bracelin of St. Francis, KS passed away on Friday,
September 27, 2024.&nbsp; Shirley was born to
Arthur and Martha Lueschen.&nbsp; She attended
and graduated from St. Francis High School.&nbsp;


She married Darrel Lee Purvis on January 27, 1957, and had
two children, Mark and David.&nbsp; Darrel
passed away in 2003.&nbsp; Shirley married
Keith Bracelin on February 24, 2013.

Shirley is survived by her son, David (Victoria) Purvis,
Shawnee, KS. and daughter in law, Karen Purvis (Rusty) Blehm, Meade, KS; four
grandchildren: Josh (Tiffany) Purvis, Jennifer Taylor, Michael Purvis, and
Jordan Purvis; and two great-granddaughters, Jessa Taylor and Isabelle Purvis.&nbsp; She also leaves behind many nieces and
nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands, Darrel
Purvis and Keith Bracelin; son, Mark Purvis; great-grandson, Wyatt Windholz;
siblings, Phyllis Hook, Paul Lueschen and Beverly Crane.

Graveside services, officiated by Pastor Brenda Rodger, will
be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Mount Allen Cemetery. 2601

Roetta Dee (Floyd) Mann, 73, of Quinter, Kansas, passed away
on October 3, 2024, in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp;
Roetta was born to R.D. and Evelyn (Winger) Floyd on October 25, 1950,
in Syracuse, Kansas.&nbsp;

the farm, Roetta drove trucks, worked with cattle (though she would NOT scoop
bunks), managed the books, and took great joy in her vegetable and flower
gardens.Roetta found immense joy as a paraprofessional at Quinter
High School; one Facebook commenter noted she was the reason he graduated! She
had a unique ability to connect with people, making friends wherever she went,
and her presence was always marked by laughter and her distinctive “bling”
attire. A passionate traveler, she loved organizing memorable trips for family
and friends.A dedicated member of the Gove Community Church, Roetta
volunteered extensively and served her community in various capacities. One of
her favorite roles was serving on the Dream First Bank Board of Directors.Her priorities in life centered around her relationship with
God, her church, her family, and her many friends. Her grandchildren held a
special place in her heart, and after her recent cancer diagnosis, her goal was
to see them all grow up. Though the Lord had other plans, they know they are
loved by their Nana, who was immensely proud of them. Roetta fought cancer
bravely but found peace in knowing she would be going home to Jesus.She is survived by her devoted husband, Dave, children Shane
&amp; Mary Jo Mann of Quinter, Kansas, Tracey and Audrey Mann of Salina,
Kansas, and Tara Jo and Cory Crouse of Colby, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the best Nana to Barrett and Carson
