&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Lucille Wanda Kuhn, age 70 of Ellis, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was born February 24, 1954, in Hays, Kansas to Andrew T. “Andy: and Clara Irene (Hammerschmidt) Kuhn.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She worked at the DSNWK/Reed Center at Hays in the sewing department and housekeeping for almost 50 years, and retiring in 2023.&nbsp; She grew up in Ellis, Kansas, attended the Washington Grade School and then graduated high school from the Reed Center,&nbsp;

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellis, and a member of the Victoria V.F.W. Auxiliary.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; She was known as Lu; Lucy; LUCY GIRL; but by her mother as Lucille.&nbsp; She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles, Lu has put together over 500 puzzles, listening to her music on her cassette player, and watching her TV shows.&nbsp; Her best game shows where The Price Is Right and Match Game.&nbsp; Her series shows where Major Crimes, The Closer and Rizzoli and Isles, and she always tuned in on the EWTN Channel.&nbsp; She would look out her window at home and watch her windmills outside and enjoyed spending time with her family.&nbsp;

Lucille Wanda Kuhn

Charles “Charlie” Edward Norton, age 81, passed away on Friday, July 19, 2024, at his home in Leoti, Kansas. He was born to Walter Wade and Clara Francis Moore Norton on November 25, 1942, in Scott City, Kansas, and was a lifelong resident of Leoti. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1964, Charlie served as an armorer in the 2/21st Artillery, 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army until 1966, attaining the rank of Specialist E4.

On January 21, 1966, Charlie married Patricia J. Schulz in Lakin, Kansas. She survives him.

After his military service, he attended a farrier’s school and shod horses for many years. Charlie went on to become a renowned artist and historian, capturing the true spirit of the American West, its buffalo, and its people in his sculptures and paintings. Charlie was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Dodge City, and was the sculptor of the 8th Wonder of Kansas, “Buffalo Bill” in Oakley, Kansas. He was a lifetime member of the Sharps Collectors Association, a board member of the Kansas State Historical Society, and a supporter of the Museum of the Great Plains in Leoti, Kansas. Charlie truly lived a western life.

Charlie is survived by his wife and three children: Tonya &amp; John Lamb of Russell Springs, Kansas; Taner &amp; Suzanne Norton of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Carson &amp; Ashley Norton of Leoti, Kansas. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the Leoti Cemetery at a later date.

Kenneth E. Price, 82, passed away July 20, 2024 at Harry Hynes Hospice, Wichita.

He was born November 2, 1941 in Larned, the son of Lester Kenneth and Aline Clarabel Irion Price.

Kenneth was a lifetime resident of Garfield, Kansas. He grew up on the Price Farm, a Holstein Dairy Farm, northwest of Garfield, in Pleasant Ridge Township. He grew up as a member of the Garfield Boosters 4-H club. He attended Garfield Schools, graduating from high school in 1960. He then attended Hutchinson Community College where he went on to work in Wichita Aircraft Mfg, lastly working with Lear Jet. He married Carol Whitman on April 27, 1968 in Wichita, Kansas. He served two years active duty in the US Army at Ft. Carson, Colorado. He was a member of the Garfield United Methodist Church and Garfield American Legion Post 300. Kenneth and Carol farmed in Pawnee County and he worked at Larned State Hospital and Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility. He enjoyed his passions of farming, hunting, fishing, and family gatherings.

Survivors include: his wife of fifty-six years, Carol Price; two daughters, Stephanie (Michael) Hall, Salina, Ericka (Chad) Davis, Ellsworth; brother, Lester L. (Janet) Price, Allen, Texas; two sisters, Kay E. Roberts, Grove, Oklahoma, Carole A. (Michael H.) Tudor, Fairland, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Michaela (Randy) Picking, Kelsie (Ariel) Hall, Drew Davis, Emersyn Davis; four great grandchildren, Elias Williams, Rylan Picking, Raelynn Picking, Abby Picking, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Kathleen Cheryl Spillman.

Donald K. McClain, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024 on his 89th birthday at Topside Manor in Goodland.

Don was born July 20, 1935, to Donald Dennis and Nellie Elizabeth (James) McClain in Clinton, Missouri. His family moved to the OK Ranch near Ruleton, Kansas in 1943, he grew up and went to school in Ruleton and Goodland. In October 1955 he married Lois Jane Helton. He worked in the seismic field most of his life while Lois stayed home raising the children, he enjoyed witching for oil and gas. Don was of the Christian belief, a doer of good deeds, a believer of the Golden Rule, an ultimate storyteller (you never knew if he was pulling your leg or not) and he loved his wife and family fiercely.

He was preceded in death by his wife Lois (Helton) McClain, daughter Beth McClain, and sister Mary Gotchall. Don is survived by 5 children Brenda (Bob) Regan of Pueblo, CO, Becky Hedgecoke of Goodland, KS, Darin McClain of McCook, NE, Amy (Mike) Byers of Junction City, KS, Ryan McClain of McCook, NE, sister-in-law Carol Lisowski of Las Vegas, NV; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many friends.

Brenda Kay Speer, 68, passed away Saturday, July 20 , 2024 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, KS. Brenda was born to Harley and Lila (Halstead) Florence in Atchinson, KS, July 12, 1956. She was united in marriage to Gerald Eugene Speer on November 17, 1983, and they celebrated 40 years of marriage in 2023. They moved to their forever home in Almena in 1989.

Brenda enjoyed life and was deeply devoted to her family. She was a great baker and enjoyed playing bingo and cards, sewing, crafting, and growing flowers. Camping and fishing were some of her favorite things to do with her family. Brenda was a member of the Almena Bible Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary 3288 where she served as President of the local club and was honored to be named Trustee, Inside Guard, and Outside Guard of the state office.

Eunice L. (Van Greuningen) Neiltopp, 102, passed away on July 22, 2024, at the Andbe Home in Norton, Kansas. She was born to Art and Ann Van Greuningen in Prairie View, Kansas, April 6, 1922, in Prairie View, Kansas. She was the third child of four born to her parents. In 1929, the family moved to Norton. Eunice attended Norton School, graduating with the class of 1940. After graduation she went to work for Southwesten Bell Telephone Company for 4 years. In September Eunice went to visit Ken Neiltopp who was in the service and stationed at Gainesville, Georgia. September 20, 1944, she married Ken Neiltopp in Greenville, South Carolina. Eunice and Ken were blessed with one daughter, Tamra. They made their permanent home in Norton, Kansas

In 1953, Eunice went to work in the Norton County Treasurer’s Office and retired in 1987. Eunice was a worker and volunteered at the Andbe Home by doing residents hair, worked in the thrift shop, was on Methodist Church committees, helped deliver Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Downtown Flower Committee. She loved working with her hands, especially planting flowers to help make her yard and the community beautiful. Besides her work and volunteering, Eunice had many activities she enjoyed. She participated in Mendo Club, a sewing club, Mid Century Book Club, flower planting, and bridge club. The Rovers, a group of five couples, enjoyed traveling together, playing bridge, and anything they could all do together. Most importantly, Eunice and Ken loved watching their grandchildren’s ball games and other activities. Eunice was a member of the Methodist Church, the Methodist Women’s Group, and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Eunice leaves to mourn her passing, daughter, Tamra Miller, and husband Richard of Norton; grandchildren, Michele Donovan, Todd Donovan and wife Sheila, and Aaron Miller and wife Kara; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, Art &amp; Ann Van Greuningen; great-grandson, Elliott Conard; brothers, Ted, and Paul Greuningen; sister, Wanda Heaton and son-in-law Michael Donovan; and many friends and family members.

A funeral service is planned for Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, Norton, Kansas, at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow the service in the Norton Cemetery. D. Maxine Patmon, daughter of Daris and Ruby (Hardman) Karnes, was born on May 13, 1929, at the family home in Studley, Kansas. Maxine attended school in Hoxie and several Oregon elementary schools during her younger years and returned to Hoxie for high school. It was during high school that she met Bill Patmon, who was the love of her life. They were married on July 25, 1945, at the courthouse in Colby, Kansas. Together they lived southwest of Hoxie where they built their home and created their own little slice of heaven. During the first seven years they welcomed their four children: Barbara (Richard) Ringer, Lenny (Michelle) Patmon, Sue (Wayne) Mountford, Cindy (Tim) Brainard.

Maxine helped Bill with farming chores, planted a big garden and raised their four children. Maxine was an excellent seamstress and took great pride in creating clothes for the children. As the kids grew up, she was a 4H sewing leader, was active in church and participated in the Neighborhood Entertainment Company. While her girls were in high school, it wasn’t unusual for her to be sewing the last hook and eye on a party dress as the girl(s) were headed out the door, Maxine worked as a cook in the high school cafeteria for several years. She became acquainted with many students over the years. Her memory is held fondly by many of those students.

During the summer, the Patmon house bulged at the seams with cousins and friends who loved to spend time on the farm. Maxine always found an extra seat at the table for anyone who showed up. It was a busy but happy home.

Faith was an important part of Maxine’s life, and she was active in the Christian Church where she served in many capacities. Later she and Bill belonged to the Methodist Church and as always, she became an active member of the congregation by helping with anything and everything that was needed.

Bill and Maxine moved off the farm in 1997 and bought a house in Hoxie. It was a big change after 52 years on the farm, but they easily became good neighbors and friends to those in their neighborhood and active in the community.

After her girls were grown, Maxine enjoyed making dresses for the granddaughters. From there she moved into quilting and quickly became an excellent quilt maker. Her goal was to complete a bed sized quilt for each of her 14 grandchildren which she did accomplish. Just like all avid quilters, she had a substantial fabric ‘stash’ to draw from. Each and every bed in their home had one of Maxine’s quilts as a bedspread. She is being followed in her love of quilting by her daughters and daughter-in-law.

Maxine resided at the SCHC-LTC for the past seven years where she shared her ‘sparkle’ with all those around her. She was very engaged in the many activities that were offered. Most recently she enjoyed the Reading Club. Maxine was adored by the staff for her independent spirit, wit, and ‘sassy’ nature. She will be greatly missed.

Maxine was preceded in death by Bill, her husband of 75 years.

Loved ones left to mourn Maxine are her son Lenny (Michelle) Patmon, daughters Barbara (Richard) Ringer, Sue (Wayne) Mountford, and Cindy (Tim) Brainard, sister, Shirley Allacher, sister-in-law, Vivian Edwards, 14 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., with family receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., at Mickey-Leopold Funeral Home, Hoxie, Kansas. A private family interment will take place later.

Dr. Jay Stanley Huebner, 85, passed away July 21, 2024, in his home in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Bancroft, Kansas July 10, 1939, to Samuel and Ruby (Graber) Huebner.

After graduating from Bushton High School, he married Jeanne Volkland August 13, 1961, in Bushton, Kansas. He went on to receive his bachelor’s in electrical engineering from Kansas State University. He received his Doctorate in Physics at University of California at Riverside. Jay and Jeanne became residents of Jacksonville, Florida where he was a founding faculty member of the University of North Florida and served as a Professor in the Department of Physics from 1972 until his retirement in 2006.

Jay could be found working diligently gardening. He took much pride in his ability to work soil to create a harvest. &nbsp;He had strong interest in astronomy and was fascinated with space exploration.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jeanne Huebner, son; Jerold Huebner, daughters; Jena Huebner and Jill Huebner, and four grandchildren.&nbsp;

Graveside Service will be held Thursday, July 25, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Farmer Township Cemetery in Bushton, Kansas.&nbsp;

He was born January 24, 1940 in Phillips County, Kansas the son of Roy and Zella (Munyon) Hall. &nbsp;He was a Teacher and a Farmer.

He was united in marriage to Patricia Mohrman on January 23, 1999 in McCook, NE. &nbsp;She survives.

Other survivors include his step-children Natalie Rickel and husband Jim of Red Feather Lakes, CO, Dave Phinney and wife Deb of Grand Island, NE, Jeanette Meissinger and husband Doug of Goodland, KS, and Kristie Nickel and husband Chad of McCook, NE; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and a sister Donna Bright of Portland, OR.

Patricia "Patti" J. (Pfeifer) Dean, 72, of Hays, KS, peacefully passed away with her son, Jeff, and family by her side on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Via Christi Village, Hays, KS. She was born on March 4, 1952, at the family farm in Ellis, KS. She is the daughter of Albert J. and Irene C. (Haas) Pfeifer.

Patricia was a graduate of Marian High School and Fort Hays State University where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, MO, where she earned a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology. As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, she devoted her career to caring for individuals with psychiatric disorders at the Nevada Habilitation Center, Nevada, MO. After 28 years, and upon the passing of her parents, Patricia made the decision to take early retirement and return to Hays, KS to become a caregiver for her sister, Denise. Patricia was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Hays, KS.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey M. Dean of Fayetteville, AR, her siblings Karen, Norman, Kenneth, Charles, Galen, Jolene, Denise, Beverly, and Stephanie, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Maurice "Mory" Pfeifer.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, July 31, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.

Patricia “Patti” J. (Pfeifer) Dean

Jimmie Carrol Gillespie was born to Delmar James and Wilma Jean (Roberts) Gillespie on August 1, 1949, at the Gove County Hospital in Quinter, KS. He died on July 18, 2024, at age 74 in the hospital in Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He married Lora Lou Marshall, in Yakima, Washington, on August 14, 1971. He met Lora while working on Wagons Ho of Quinter, KS, as a teamster, in 1968. They had two wonderful children. Colleen Renee Louise was born on June 1, 1977, and Justin Marshall James was born on October 5, 1980. He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Rathbone, her husband, Larry, and sons, Eric Marshall Rathbone, and Basil Jimmie Davis Rathbone and his son Justin Gillespie, his wife, Bree-Anne, and son, James Justin Gillespie. He’s also survived by his brother, Kirby and his wife, Donna, of Quinter, KS; his sister, Brenda Traugott, of Wichita, KS; his sister Gladys Billinger and her husband, Keith, of Victoria, KS; his brother Mitchell and his wife, Carlene, of Grainfield, KS; his brother, Michael and his wife, Theresa, of Grainfield, KS; his sister, Connie Weber, of Quinter, KS; and his sister, Sharon Beougher, and her husband, Joel, of Hays, KS. He’s also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Jimmie graduated from Grainfield High School in 1967 and graduated from Kansas State University in 1972. He worked in credit unions for 35 years. He started his career at the Quinter Coop Federal Credit Union. During those years Jimmie earned the designation of Certified Credit Union Executive from the Credit Union National Association and was honored with the Significant Accomplishment Award by the Colorado Credit Union Association. After retiring, he worked with special needs students, as a para and later volunteered at Head Start.

Viewing and services will be held at the Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Masonic rituals will be performed by Hoxie Lodge #348 and the song Amazing Grace will be performed on the bagpipes.

His ashes will be interred at the Grainfield Kansas cemetery at a later date.

He is survived by his daughter, Colleen Rathbone, her husband, Larry, and sons, Eric Marshall Rathbone, and Basil Jimmie Davis Rathbone and his son Justin Gillespie, his wife, Bree-Anne, and son, James Justin Gillespie. He’s also survived by his brother, Kirby and his wife, Donna, of Quinter, KS; his sister, Brenda Traugott, of Wichita, KS; his sister Gladys Billinger and her husband, Keith, of Victoria, KS; his brother Mitchell and his wife, Carlene, of Grainfield, KS; his brother, Michael and his wife, Theresa, of Grainfield, KS; his sister, Connie Weber, of Quinter, KS; and his sister, Sharon Beougher, and her husband, Joel, of Hays, KS. He’s also survived by a multitude of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.Jimmie graduated from Grainfield High School in 1967 and graduated from Kansas State University in 1972. He worked in credit unions for 35 years. He started his career at the Quinter Coop Federal Credit Union. During those years Jimmie earned the designation of Certified Credit Union Executive from the Credit Union National Association and was honored with the Significant Accomplishment Award by the Colorado Credit Union Association. After retiring, he worked with special needs students, as a para and later volunteered at Head Start.Viewing and services will be held at the Schmitt Funeral Home in Quinter, KS on Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon. Esperanza (Candia) Lehman passed away July 17, 2024. She was born June 17, 1945 in Ysleta, Texas (now a part of El Paso) to Ramon Candia and Otilia (Herrera), the third of eight children. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she graduated from St Mary’s High School, working long hours to pay the tuition. She was always self-reliant and excellent at sales, a reflection of her unfailingly pleasant manner, intelligence and perseverance.

While working for American Airlines she met her husband, Earnest Lehman in Washington, DC during the 1976 Bicentennial. Their only child, Jeanne Lara, was born in 1978. Earnie’s career led the family to Wichita, Topeka and Hays, Kansas except for a too-short four years back in El Paso. Esperanza and Earnie retired to Austin, Texas in 2018.

Throughout her entire life Esperanza lent a compassionate and helping hand to family, friends and complete strangers. In Kansas, where she was better known as Lara (in honor of a revered ancestor) Esperanza volunteered in many fields including CASA, domestic abuse shelters, the Hays Medical Center, translation services and several more. She was particularly known statewide for her work with the Latino community.

Esperanza was predeceased by her parents, sister Lucilla (Hernandez) and brothers Ramon and Raul. She is survived by her husband and daughter Jeanne Lara Lehman Lopez (Francisco Lopez Reyes), granddaughter Alicia Lehman-Woodyard and grandsons Lenox and Henrix Lopez. Esperanza lived for her grandchildren. Other survivors include brothers Macario, Hector and Francisco as well as sister Delia (Wang).

A private family service was held followed by cremation.

Patricia Joan McSpadden was born in Moline, Kansas on December 1, 1933 to John McSpadden and Othello (Wood) McSpadden.

She attended Moline Public Schools and graduated from Moline High School in 1952. She attended Wichita University and loved to tell the story of being a cheerleader a the 1954 NIT basketball tournament in NYC.

She married Don Hall in 1956. They had three children and later divorced.

Pat spent many years working with savings, loans, computer supplies and banking. In her retirement, she was dedicated to helping people with low vision live their fullest lives. She was president of the Hays, KS chapter of NKAVI (Northwest Kansas Association of the Visually Impaired) for several years. She met every challenge in life with grace, good humor and courage. She never let her blindness define or limit her, but rather used it to enlarge and improve the lives of all she came in contact with. Pat accumulated many dear friends throughout her life and stayed in contact with them over the years. She was a dedicated friend and a blessing to all who knew her.

She is survived by her children: Kim Lanning of Eudora, KS; Mike (Norma) Hall of Elk Falls, KS; Stacie( Jerry) Phillips of Westminster, CO; Seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Marge White and her son-in-law Robert Lanning.

A Memorial service will be held at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas on August 16th, 2024 at 10:00am with inurnment to follow at the Moline City Cemetery.

Galen Thomas Butler, age 65, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and formerly of Gorham, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Little Rock, Arkansas, after many years of pain and discomfort.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was born April 16, 1958, in Russell, Kansas to Ronald and Rose (Geist) Butler.&nbsp; He&nbsp; grew up in Gorham, and he graduated from Gorham High School in 1976.&nbsp; Many people will remember him working in Butler’s Grocery Store, in Gorham, during that time, and later at Klema’s Grocery store in Russell. Galen, moved to Arkansas in 2005.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Survivors include his son, Stephen Thompson and his wife, Glenda; his sister, Sheila Bohannon and her husband, Edward; several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Galen was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Rose; his&nbsp;brothers, DeVere Butler; and Allan Butler, who passed away 10 days after Galen’s death, and his sister Paula Butler Karst.

Smith Center - Don Royce Wichers, 79, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, in Wichita, KS.  He was born on December 19, 1944, in Hutchison, KS to C.D. “Doc” and Joyce A. (Bos) Wichers. He was the 3rd child of 4, having 3 sisters: Doris, Delores and Vickie.  The family moved to a homestead outside of Dispatch KS. He attended school in Downs, KS, graduating in 1962.

Don lived in Smith Center for over 50 years; working and raising his family. He served as a Deacon at the First Christian Church in Smith Center.

Don loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He fished in innumerable tournaments, and he hunted many big bucks in the area. In his early years, he was an avid racecar driver, driving the famous #45. He won the Red Cloud, NE Speedbowl track championship and popular driver awards in the early 70’s. He had a 1925 Ford Model “T” Sinclair gas delivery wagon that he drove in the Old Settler’s Day parade for many years. In his retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking and tinkering on little projects.

He is preceded in death by both parents and his older sister and husband, Doris and Larry Haas.

His survivors include his wife Judy (Miller), his children, Donna Carter (Jeff) of Bel Aire, KS, Deitra “Dee” Losey (Mark) of Agra, KS, Don Wichers of Chama, NM, and Royce Wichers of Hays, KS and his stepchildren, Brad Schoen (Susan) of Manhattan, KS, Stacey Pasch (Ken) of Longmont, CO, and Amy Atlee (Tom) of Broomfield, CO; two sisters, Delores “Dee” VanderGeisen (Gene) of Rock Valley, IA and Vickie Collicott (Joe) of Cozad, NE; he was blessed with numerous grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews, family  and friends.

A community remembrance &amp; luncheon will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 11:30 am – 2:30 p.m., at the VFW Post 1141, 602 A. St., Smith Center, KS.  Memorials may be given to the Don R. J. Dion Vasquez, 62, died July 20, 2024, as a result of a vehicular accident. &nbsp;He was born March 29, 1962, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of Joseph L. “Joe” and Claudetta “Sue” (Juby) Vasquez. &nbsp;Dion graduated from Hoisington High School in 1980, where he enjoyed playing sports. His love of sports continued into adulthood as he was a die-hard Kansas City Chiefs fan.

A lifetime Hoisington resident, Dion worked for Duke Drilling since 1988.&nbsp;

In 1982, he married Cindy Nuss and they were blessed with three children. They later divorced. He then married Candi Larson they were together 30 years and tied the knot on June 10, 2000. She blessed him with bringing four more children into the family.

He is survived by his wife Candi of the home; six children, Sheena Vasquez of Hoisington, Shannon Larson of Hoisington, Kori (Mike) Plank of Wichita, Ashley Larson of Oklahoma, Nikki Vasquez-Brown and fiancé J.B. of Elk City, Oklahoma, Kaleb Larson of Hoisington; stepmother, Judy Vasquez of Great Bend; three brothers, Steve (Bonnie) Vasquez of Claflin, Leland Vasquez of Hoisington, and Charles F. Beesley II of Sedalia, Missouri; a sister, Tina Bortz and husband Larry Gilliland of Hoisington; and fifteen grandchildren, Zada Vasquez, Randy Chambers Jr., Exavier Chambers, Ruben Chambers, Lacie Larson, Amerie Hinz, Annika Hinz, Addilynn Lumley, Waylon Lumley, Gabriel Herrman, Demetrius Herrman, Ghentrie Brown, Jax Brown, Ashe Radden, and Blade Brown; a great granddaughter, Stella Wilkins; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Bradley Vasquez, son, Justin Larson, and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Vasquez.

J. Dion Vasquez

Ann Durham, age 88, passed away peacefully in Boise, Idaho on July 9, 2024.

She was born February 17, 1936 to Cleal "Dode" Harrison and Muriel "Murt" Harrison in Hays Kansas.&nbsp; Ann married Gene Durham on June 12, 1955 in Oakley.&nbsp; Ann was a beloved mother, wife, and grandmother. &nbsp;She was raised in Oakley before moving to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas. &nbsp;Ann made Lawrence her home for nearly 60 years, dedicating over three decades of her life to inspiring young minds as a high school art teacher.

Her passion for art extended beyond the classroom. &nbsp;Ann was an avid collector of artwork, particularly southwestern influenced paintings and pottery. &nbsp;She frequently enjoyed time in Taos, New Mexico where she often sought inspiration and new additions for her collections. &nbsp;New Mexico was not her only travel destination through the years. &nbsp;She loved to travel, exploring new places and cultures with an adventurous spirit. &nbsp;Ann was a talented artist herself, infusing her watercolor paintings with the same vibrancy and passion that characterized her life.

In recent years, Ann and her husband relocated to Boise, Idaho to be closer to family. &nbsp;She is survived by her devoted husband of 69 years, Gene, her daughter Kinon, her son Craig, and her cherished granddaughters Chloe and Kate. &nbsp;Ann's love for color, creativity, and family will forever be remembered and celebrated by those who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, August 3, 2024 at the Oakley Cemetery with Pastor Dan Hutton officiating. &nbsp;Inurnment will follow.

Rosann Felder, 94, Hays, Kansas, passed away surrounded by her family at Via Christi Village on July 17, 2024.&nbsp; Rosann was born February 26, 1930, at St. Anthony’s hospital in Hays, to George and Hilda Halbleib of Brownell.&nbsp; She graduated high school at Sacred Heart Academy, Wichita, earned her Certificate of Teaching at Fort Hays State College and began teaching in country schools that same year.

Rosann and Louis Michael Felder were married May 1, 1951, at St. Mary Catholic Church, McCracken, KS. They were married 73 years, raised five children and built their family farm, which produced Hereford cattle and grain crops.&nbsp; A “born-teacher”, Rosann was an active and life-long community volunteer, serving as a 4-H club leader, CCD &amp; RCIA teacher, Hospice volunteer, Altar Society officer, Eucharistic Minister, World Marriage Day coordinator in her parish as well as numerous other roles in her church and community.&nbsp; While she was in her 60s, her passion for teaching led her to complete a Certificate in Facilitative Family Ministry which she applied to her volunteer work as a religious education teacher, parish liaison to the Diocesan Rural Life Committee, Interfaith Council of Churches, and many other roles.&nbsp; Many county fairs and the state fair tapped into Rosann’s baking expertise to serve as their food judge every year.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Rosann is survived by her husband, Louis, children: Mike Felder (Rita) Brownell, Paula Clayton (Steve) Overland Park, Jean Webb (Bill McGovern) Wichita, Mary Jo Hafliger (Bob) WaKeeney, Chris Felder (WaKeeney); and her sister Judi Kingry, Canada. Grandchildren: Meghan Little, Kristin McCoy, Adrian Webb, Serena Barnard, Liza Randol, Kirk Hafliger, Stephanie Hommon, Travis Webb, Nick Felder, Jared Marmet, Nathan Felder and 31 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Rosann was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Rita Issinghoff and Joan Rupp.&nbsp;

Mass of Christian burial will be at&nbsp;2 pm, Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney.&nbsp; Father Curtis Carlson of St Fidelis Basilica will preside.&nbsp; Burial will follow at Christ the King Cemetery.

Nancy L. Leiker, age 81, died July 21, 2024, in The Woodlands, Texas. Nancy was born in 1943 in Hays, Kansas the daughter of Walter and Scholastica (Walters) Leiker. Nancy grew up on the family farm north of Walker, Kansas. She attended Walker Grade School, was a 1960 graduate of Victoria High School and attended Fort Hays State University.

In 1980, Nancy married Larry McCoy. They lived in the Houston area where they spent time fishing in the Gulf and lovingly raised many cats over the years.

During Nancy’s long and successful career, she was a partner in a power line construction company and later was the Benefits Director for Wilson Industries as well as the bookkeeper for several companies in the area.

Nancy is survived by Larry, her husband of nearly 45 years, brother and sister-in-law Wil and Karen Leiker of Topeka, Kansas, sister-in-law Jan Leiker of Suquamish, Washington, brother-in-law Mickey McCoy of Conroe, Texas, who was always there to provide a helping hand when needed, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, whose lives were made happier by Nancy’s love, warmth and acceptance.

Larned – Robert Alan Sallee, 84, passed away July 21, 2024 at his home in Larned.

He was born June 25, 1940 in Great Bend, the son of Marvin and Ange Wright Sallee.

A lifetime area resident, he was a retired funeral director at Beckwith Mortuary. He was a Member of Larned United Methodist Church, Wet/Dry Routes Chapter, Santa Fe Model Railroad Association, and was a Mason. He was an RC airplane enthusiast and enjoyed airplane simulators. He was very musically talented and could play anything, his favorites being piano and organ.

On August 21, 1960 he married Sherrill D. Johnson at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include: two children, David A. (Vivian) Sallee, Larned, Lisa D. (Marvin Monaghan) Holt, Pratt; three grandchildren, Christopher (Hannah) Glass, Great Bend, Marcus (Shawna) Glass, Woodburn, Oregon, Johnathan Sallee, Larned; four great grandchildren, Kazlynn, Kameron, Adalynn, and Olive.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dean Sallee.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Randy Kuhn presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 4-6 p.m. Burial will be in Larned Cemetery.

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to Aiden Ray Sherraden, a beloved son, cherished brother, uncle, cousin, and a young soul who touched the lives of all who knew him. Aiden left this world at the tender age of 11, on July 17, 2024, in Plainville, KS, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a passion for life that transcended his years.

Aiden was born on November 16, 2012, in Hays, KS, and on December 25, 2015, at the age of 3 he joined his forever family - best Christmas present ever! He brought immense joy and love to his parents, Daryl and Shona (Nicholson) Sherraden. His bond with his sisters was very special. They were not just siblings but his closest companions. He found great comfort and happiness in their presence, sharing countless adventures and lifelong memories together.

One of Aiden's greatest joys in life was fishing. Whether he was casting a line from the shore, exploring new fishing spots with his family, or impatiently waiting for the perfect catch, he found solace and happiness in the serenity of the water. Fishing wasn't just a hobby but a passion that reflected his adventurous spirit and source of peace and happiness.

Beyond his love for fishing, Aiden also loved reptiles – especially frogs and turtles. He enjoyed playing soccer and football, riding his bike, collecting football cards, swinging on his rope swing and his many adventures with Preston. Above all, Aiden cherished every moment spent with his family, whom he loved dearly.

Aiden had a heart as big as the ocean. Always looking to help others, he would go out of his way to lend a helping hand to friends and strangers alike. Although Aiden’s time with us was far too short, the impact he made during his brief journey will forever be remembered. He taught us about love, resilience, and the importance of cherishing every moment. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
