Robert Duane Bell, 77,
of Hill City, began his life May 10, 1947 in Hays, Kansas. He was the oldest of
seven children born to Duane and Berneta (Kerbaugh) Bell. Bob departed this
life on Earth to begin his next journey September 30, 2024 with his family at
his side.

Bob was united in
marriage to Kathy Brown and to this union three children were born: Jeremy,
Nicole and Casey. In 1990 Bob met Adrenne Brault, better known as Andie, at an
AA meeting. They began dating, attending singles dances, fishing and doing many
outdoor activities. Bob and Andie were united in marriage June 14, 1991. With
this union, Bob gained three sons: Jon, Mike and Ron Brault, and three
grandsons: Brandon, Caden and Weston.

Bob’s passions in life
included driving fast cars and loud motorcycles, fishing, hunting, camping and
generally anything outdoors. And Bob was also
passionate about his dogs, especially his bird dogs. Bob and Andie spent hours
and hours in their yard. Their gardens were a wealth of fresh vegetables and a
bounty of fruit from&nbsp; the various
trees.&nbsp; 

Bob served his country
during the Vietnam War Era. In addition to his time in Germany, he spent time
in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division, “The Screaming Eagles”.
Bob was an active member in AA and served as a sponsor. He was proud of his 48
years of sobriety.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was also a member
of the Hill City American Legion and the Honor Guard, marching in the Graham
County Fair Parades and Memorial Day Services at the cemetery. Following his
military service he worked in various jobs. Later returning to Hill City, Bob
began his employment with the City of Hill City, working in all departments. A
portion of his employment with the city was as Superintendent. Following his
retirement, Bob continued serving as cemetery caretaker.

Bob
was preceded in death by his parents: Duane and Berneta, his sister Nelda,
daughter Nicole, stepson Jon Brault, and sister-in-law Marcella Brin. 

He is survived and
will be deeply missed by his wife Andie; children Jeremy and wife Nikki of
Victoria, Casey of Hill City; stepsons: Mike and wife Stacie Brault of Magalia,
California and Ron Brault of Oroville, California; nine grandchildren: Kelsi
and husband Donny Hildebrand, Kinzie, Lux, Taylor Stramel and wife Hollie,
Lucas, Cydnee, Brandon Brault, Caden, Weston; four great grandchildren;
brothers: Ronald and wife Brenda of Lawrence, Richard&nbsp; and wife Leslie of Hill City, Gaylen and wife
Susie of Bogue, and Craig Ayers of Canyon Lake, Texas; sisters: Juanita Richey
of Hill City and Becky and husband Charles Hoss of Lenexa; brothers and
sisters-in-law and a host of nieces and nephews.

Robert “Bob” Bell

Alice Marie (Gosser) Stramel, 94, Hays, died Thursday,
October 3, 2024 at HaysMed.

She was born January 18, 1930 in Hays, the second child of
Theodore and Foila (Joy) Gosser.&nbsp; She
attended grade school in Hays except for third grade at Silverdale Country
School and graduated from Hays High School in 1948, then soon started working
for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator and later plant
clerk, retiring in 1985 after 28 years.

Alice married her high school sweetheart, Jim Stramel, on
December 18, 1950, and they raised six children in Hays.&nbsp; She was an excellent seamstress and really
enjoyed quilting.&nbsp; She made quilts for
her children and grandchildren and sent hundreds of quilts to Lutheran World
Relief.&nbsp; Alice was the hostess for many
family gatherings and always served delicious meals and desserts.&nbsp; She and Jim loved to travel and visited all
50 states and a number of foreign countries. &nbsp;They loved camping and fishing with close
friends.&nbsp; Alice was a lifetime member of
Trinity Lutheran Church in Hays, AT&amp;T – Southwestern Bell Pioneers, former
volunteer at Hays Medical Center and member of Buckeye Ladies Club.

Alice is survived by her husband Jim of Hays, sons, Dean
(Janet) Stramel and Glen (Nancy) Stramel, both of Hays, daughters, Susan
(Claude) Anderson of Kansas City, MO, Terry (Scott) Dennis of Urbandale, IA,
Jean Stramel of Lucas, and Amy (Robert) Sanchez of Urbandale, IA, nine
grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers,
Allen (Donna) Gosser, Arnold (Eileen) Gosser, and Harvey (infant), and her
sisters, Velma (Don) Baker and Bonnie (Bud) Wyatt.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 8,
2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Brenda Rodger officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Fort Hays Memorial
Gardens.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm
until 7:00 on Monday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and from 9:00 am

(Dinges) Riley, age 67 of Brewster, Kansas died Friday, September 27, 2024,
after a lengthy battle with cancer at HaysMed - Hays. She was born May 25,
1957, in Hays to Laverne and Mildred (Pfeifer) Dinges. 



Victoria was a graduate of Hays High School class of 1975 and received an
associate’s degree from Fort Hays State University. Victoria was very
passionate in her faith and loved to share that with others. She enjoyed life,
flower gardening, camping, the outdoors, and animals including the feral cats
in her neighborhood which she often fed.



Victoria is survived by her life partner, Michael Riley of Brewster; her
mother, Mildred Dinges of Hays; brothers, Charlie Dinges (Vicky) of Colorado,
Rod Dinges of Oklahoma, Randy Dinges (Tammi) of Colorado, Joe Dinges (Donna) of
Wyoming; her sisters, Karen Watts of Hays, Janet Casper (Gary) of Hays, Diane
Henderson (Verland) of Oklahoma and Lisa Bomba (John) of Hays.



She was preceded in death by her father, Laverne Dinges; a nephew, Jason
Dinges; and a brother-in-law, Jack Watts.

Brian Joseph Windholz, 80, the son of Isidore and Pauline
(Erbert) Windholz, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 in
Valley, Nebraska after several years of bravely facing progressive supranuclear
palsy (PSP), a late-onset neurodegenerative disease.

He was born on January 2, 1944 in Hays, Kansas and married
Shirley Schmidt on November 27, 1969. &nbsp;He
graduated from St. Joseph’s Military Academy in 1962 and earned a bachelor’s
degree from Fort Hays State College where he was the editor of the State
College Leader newspaper. &nbsp;An Army
Reserve veteran, Brian served in the 388th Medical Depot, Hays, from 1965 to
1971. &nbsp;He played saxophone and clarinet
in the Ted Smith Orchestra and the Eddie Frank Band, and enjoyed golf, travel,
playing cards, visiting casinos, cheering for the Boston Red Sox and Green Bay
Packers, and deploying his dry and mildly subversive sense of humor when you
least expected it.

Brian was Associate Administrator and Accountant at St.
Thomas Hospital in Colby, Kansas, and was Administrator of Thomas County
Hospital, assisting in the move to Citizens Medical Center until 1985. &nbsp;He also worked at Russell Regional Hospital,
Clara Barton Hospital, and as Treasurer for the City of Russell, Kansas before
happily retiring in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Elkhorn, Nebraska,
children, Jennifer (Barry) Weiner of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Chad (Teri Madsen)
Windholz of Papillion, Nebraska, and Kim (Jared) Spletstoser of Collegeville,
Pennsylvania, brothers, Oren M. (Patricia) Windholz and Guy (Kathy) Windholz,
sisters-in-law, Betty Augustine and Gerri (Don) Johnson, adored grandchildren,
David, Cameron, Justin and Alex Weiner; Rian Boub, Gavyn and Tyler Windholz;
Ben and Kate Spletstoser, and many nieces and nephews, including godson, Jason
Windholz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Glen J.

Brian Joseph Windholz

Annaline Amelia (Wahlmeier) Lacy
passed away on September 29, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family at the
age of 105. She was born on December 13, 1918, in Jennings, KS to Henry B. and
Mary Catherine (Hickert) Wahlmeier. &nbsp;

Ann grew up in Jennings, KS and
graduated from high school in 1937. She married Vivian Francis “CY” Lacy on
April 10, 1940, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo. Ann’s
interests were her children. She lived to ensure they were safe, secure, and
loved. Her hobbies included anything that included her family. Ann was always
in attendance at school programs. She was a loving and compassionate mother.
She read to her kids daily, taught them rhymes, and how to love Jesus. It was
mandatory for the family to kneel and pray the Rosary together. Ann served
desserts at every meal and was best known for her homemade bread. She was an
extraordinary gardener that provided fresh produce for her family. She also
loved growing flowers, most especially zinnias and four o’clocks. Ann was
always willing to help a stranger and those less fortunate. She volunteered for
the Altar Society by helping with meal preparations for church events. On top
of caring for her family, she was also the bookkeeper for the family business.
Ann loved to exercise, especially walking long distances. She enjoyed sewing
her family’s garments and embroidered for relaxation. Learning to dance at barn
dances when she was small led her to dance gracefully and effortlessly. Ann
loved to dance and found great joy in dancing with others. Crosswords and
playing solitaire were also favorite pastimes. 

Ann is survived by her 13
children: Joyce Boeve of Phillipsburg, KS, Ron (Mary) Lacy of Kearney, NE, Dan
(Sharon) Lacy of Colorado Springs, CO, David Lacy of Hays, KS, William Lacy of
Hays, KS, Judy (Wayne) Kreller of Lubbock, TX, Mary (Jerry) Wiley of Hays, KS,
Mike (Sally) Lacy of Hays, KS, Gary (Jeanette) Lacy of Norton, KS, Kevin Lacy
(Cheryl Smith) of Norton, KS, Lisa VanZandt of Norton, KS, Denise Lacy of Hays,
KS, and Connie Lacy (Brian Luther) of Norton, KS; 30 grandchildren; 58 great
grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren, and sister, Henrietta Sloan of
Richardson, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, CY and

2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church, Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 4 at the funeral home. A Wake Service
and Rosary will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary Catherine (Hickert) Wahlmeier. &nbsp;Ann grew up in Jennings, KS and
graduated from high school in 1937. She married Vivian Francis “CY” Lacy on
April 10, 1940, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo. Ann’s
interests were her children. She lived to ensure they were safe, secure, and
loved. Her hobbies included anything that included her family. Ann was always
in attendance at school programs. She was a loving and compassionate mother.
She read to her kids daily, taught them rhymes, and how to love Jesus. It was
mandatory for the family to kneel and pray the Rosary together. Ann served
desserts at every meal and was best known for her homemade bread. She was an
extraordinary gardener that provided fresh produce for her family. She also
loved growing flowers, most especially zinnias and four o’clocks. Ann was
always willing to help a stranger and those less fortunate. She volunteered for
the Altar Society by helping with meal preparations for church events. On top
of caring for her family, she was also the bookkeeper for the family business.
Ann loved to exercise, especially walking long distances. She enjoyed sewing
her family’s garments and embroidered for relaxation. Learning to dance at barn
dances when she was small led her to dance gracefully and effortlessly. Ann
loved to dance and found great joy in dancing with others. Crosswords and
playing solitaire were also favorite pastimes. Ann is survived by her 13
children: Joyce Boeve of Phillipsburg, KS, Ron (Mary) Lacy of Kearney, NE, Dan
(Sharon) Lacy of Colorado Springs, CO, David Lacy of Hays, KS, William Lacy of
Hays, KS, Judy (Wayne) Kreller of Lubbock, TX, Mary (Jerry) Wiley of Hays, KS,
Mike (Sally) Lacy of Hays, KS, Gary (Jeanette) Lacy of Norton, KS, Kevin Lacy
(Cheryl Smith) of Norton, KS, Lisa VanZandt of Norton, KS, Denise Lacy of Hays,
KS, and Connie Lacy (Brian Luther) of Norton, KS; 30 grandchildren; 58 great
grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren, and sister, Henrietta Sloan of
Richardson, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, CY and
siblings: Lawrence Wahlmeier, Francis Wahlmeier, Alfred Wahlmeier, and Viola
Tacha. Mass of Christian Burial will be
2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic
Church, Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Cemetery. Visitation will be
from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 4 at the funeral home. A Wake Service
and Rosary will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

Annaline Amelia (Wahlmeier) Lacy

John Rupp, a respected member of the Ellis community and a
devoted family man, passed away on October 1, 2024, at the Good Samaritan
Society in Ellis, Kansas at the age of 94. Born on November 8, 1929, in Hays,
Kansas, to Ignatius J. and Mary K. (Wolf) Rupp. John lived a life marked by
dedication to his career, family, and service to others.



John embarked on his professional journey with the Knights of Columbus
Insurance, showcasing his commitment to helping others right from the start.
His career in public service began as he took on roles such as the Ellis County
Treasurer and the Ellis City Clerk. In 1963, he started his banking career at
Ellis State Bank, beginning as a cashier and advancing to the position of
Senior Vice President by the time of his retirement in 1992.



His educational journey began at St. Mary’s School, followed by St. Joseph's
Military Academy in Hays. He graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1951,
laying the foundation for a fruitful career. Throughout his life, John was
known for his professional demeanor, kindness, and ability to engage with
others while sharing a joke or two. As a proud father and grandfather, he
cherished his family deeply and relished the joys of family gatherings.



John's involvement with the Knights of Columbus was a significant aspect of his
life; he was an active participant in both the local Ellis 3rd and 4th degree
councils, and on a state level, he served as treasurer, secretary, State
Deputy, and Past State Deputy. His achievements were a source of pride for him,
particularly his role as a mentor and leader within the organization.



John is survived by his son, Steven Rupp (JoAnne) of Colorado Springs, CO;
daughters, Marilyn Kroeger (Steve), Paulette Kroeger (Greg), and Ann Gugler
(Doug), all of Ellis; and his stepchildren, Greg Heroneme, Denise Dresie, Karla
Stallings, and Tom Heroneme. He is also remembered fondly by his brother, Tim
Rupp (Terri) of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and his sister, Sr. Marilyn Rupp ASC
of Wichita, Kansas. John found joy in his grandchildren: Erica, Jared, Terri,
Tracey, John, Brittany, Scott, and Tanner, as well as his step-grandchildren,
Jared, Steven, Elizabeth and Rebbeca. He was blessed with ten
great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.



John was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Theresa Schuster, whom he
married on November 11, 1952, and who passed away on July 19, 1989. He later
married Arlene Heroneme on November 26, 1993, who preceded him in death on
March 1, 2017. He also mourned the loss of his siblings: Roger Rupp, Brian
Rupp, Glenna Lewis, Anita Gilmore, his infant siblings, Roger, Edwarda and Mary
while also having to say goodbye to his grandson, Anthony.



Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Mary's
Catholic Church in Ellis. 

Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.



Memorial visitation will be Monday 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM at the church with a
Knights of Columbus rosary service at 10:00 AM.

Stites, 86, of Hill City, Kansas passed away in Wichita joining her beloved
husband, Dennis. Janice was born February 25,&nbsp;1938, to Herman and Agnes
(Hudson) Handlin on a farm in Ellsworth County, Kansas. She began her school
years at Trivoli Country School through eighth&nbsp;grade.&nbsp; Janice then
attended Geneseo High School. Following high school graduation, she enrolled at
Fort Hays State for one year. While there she met her future husband Dennis
Stites of Hill City.&nbsp; Janice and Dennis were married September 29, 1957,
in Geneseo. The couple made their home in southern Graham County.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;In
addition to being a busy farmer’s wife, Janice was the mother of two active
children, Sandy and Roger. She was an avid gardener.&nbsp; Janice took great satisfaction in canning the
fresh vegetables that she had grown. Besides helping with 4H, she was a very
involved member of EHU. &nbsp;As a longtime
member of the local Eastern Star Chapter, Janice held numerous local, district
and state positions within the Order.&nbsp; She also served as Mothern Advisor for
the Rainbow Girls.

Janice
was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.&nbsp; She is survived by a
son Roger Stites (Mary) of Birmingham, Alabama; a daughter Sandy Jones (Dennis)
of Edmond, Oklahoma; three grandchildren:&nbsp;
Taylor Jones, of Wichita, Riley Jones, and Jay (Kate) Peterson of Edmond,
Oklahoma; five great grandchildren: Cooper, Presley, Myles, Skylar and Grace
Peterson, all of Edmond, Oklahoma; and a sister Darlene Rush (Kermit) of
Ellsworth, Kansas.&nbsp;

Donald Eugene Anderson began his life
November 30, 1960, in Hill City, Kansas. He was the third of four children born
to Darrel and Willadonna Anderson. Don’s journey on Earth was completed
peacefully September 15, 2024, with his wife and children by his side.

Don met Debra Lang, and they married,
bringing two children to this union, a daughter Vanessa and a son, Dylan. Years
later, Don met Tami Kenyon, and an unbreakable union was formed. Marriage
brought their four children together and a family bond certain to last a
lifetime was created. 

Don’s passions in life were his
family, truck driving, fast cars, and motorcycles. He and Tami loved their
yearly trips to Sturgis. Although the trip to Sturgis could not be taken this
year, they were able to see the Grand Canyon together. One last trip to Sturgis
will be made next summer to the 85th anniversary of the Sturgis
Motorcycle Rally, where Don has requested his ashes be scattered. 

Don was preceded in death by his
father, Darrel Anderson. He is survived by and will be deeply missed by his
wife, Tami Anderson of Hill City; daughter Vanessa Underhill (Lance) of Hill
City; son Dylan Anderson (Micala) of Abilene; daughter, Kellie Belleau (Jeremy)
of Norton; daughter Krystal Phelps (Eric) of Hill City; ten grandchildren:&nbsp; Bentley, Cooper, and Cruz Underhill, children

Leonard E. Shannon, 95, of
Russell, Kansas, died on Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Homestead Assisted
Living Center in Russell.

Leonard was born on March 29,
1929, in Ellsworth, Kansas, the son of Edmond L. and Ollie (Weinhold)
Shannon.&nbsp; He grew up in Dorrance, Kansas
and graduated from Dorrance High School.&nbsp;
He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Dolores D. Major on
October 09, 1955 in Russell.&nbsp; From this
union Leonard and Dolores were blessed with two children Randall and
Lenette.&nbsp; Leonard was owner and operator
of Shannon’s Appliance opening his Russell store in the early 1950’s.&nbsp;&nbsp; He was a longtime member of the Otterbein
Methodist Church, Russell Kiwanis Club, Russell Elks Lodge and Good Sams.&nbsp; He enjoyed camping, fishing, ice hockey,
Kansas City Chief’s football, playing dominoes and going to the Russell Senior
Center.&nbsp; 

Surviving family include his wife
Dolores of Russell, Kansas; son Randall E. Shannon and wife JoDee of Wichita,
Kansas and daughter Lenette D. Swaim and husband David of Port St. Lucie,
Florida; brother Loren Shannon and wife Nancy of Colorado Springs, Colorado;
three grandchildren Hayley Shannon, Brittany Swaim and Brandon Swaim and one
great grandchild Jerrick Johnson.

He was preceded in death by his
parents, brother Richard Shannon, sister Merlyn Shannon and infant brother

Leonard E. Shannon

Harold
Myron Edmonston, 81, of Protection, KS, passed away in his home on Thursday,
September 26, 2024 with his wife Susan by his side.

Born
May 24, 1943, Myron was the youngest child of Harold and Helen (Eubank)
Edmonston. He graduated in 1961 from Protection High School and from Fort Hays
State University in 1966, earning a B.S. degree in Agriculture. Myron served in
the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972.&nbsp;

On
September 18, 1965, Myron married Susan Strobel of Protection. They recently
celebrated 59 years of marriage.

In
1970, Myron purchased land east of Ashland, where he and Susan established a
home and were blessed with four daughters.&nbsp;

Myron
was a lifetime farmer and rancher. His passion was the family farm, where he
worked long hours, preparing a future to pass on to his children. He was
self-motivated, dedicated to his family and his work.

He
enjoyed farm auctions, cattle sales, and visiting with friends. Known for his
quick wit and love of a good joke, Myron was a storyteller at heart. He could
do extensive math calculations in his head, and had an uncanny ability to
remember things in the past with great accuracy. He was a good mechanic, and
often found creative solutions to challenges on the farm.&nbsp;

He
enjoyed rodeos and western movies. Myron was a lifelong fan of sports,
especially local high school games, KC Chiefs football, and KU basketball. His
later years were spent enjoying his grandchildren’s activities.

Myron
is survived by his wife Susan; his daughters: Sheri Darnell (Clint) of
Protection, Emily Breit (Jason) of Hays, Amy Gregg (Shane) of Hays, and Connie
Howard (Jason) of Halstead; 11 grandchildren: Ashley Darnell-Cox (Daniel),
Meghan (Darnell) Stephens (Jose), Austin Darnell, Gretchen Darnell, Maxwell
Breit, Ava Breit, Mahala Gregg, Dylan Gregg, Finn Howard, Aunna Howard, and
Archer Howard; three great-grandchildren: Jenna, Jase, and John Stephens; one
brother Don Edmonston; and numerous other relatives.&nbsp;

He
was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Melba Swanson, and
brother-in-law Kenneth Swanson.

Visitation
will take place Friday, October 4, with family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater.&nbsp;

Memorial
service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5, at the Protection
Methodist Church followed by interment at the Protection Cemetery.&nbsp;

May 24, 1943, Myron was the youngest child of Harold and Helen (Eubank)
Edmonston. He graduated in 1961 from Protection High School and from Fort Hays
State University in 1966, earning a B.S. degree in Agriculture. Myron served in
the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972.&nbsp;On
September 18, 1965, Myron married Susan Strobel of Protection. They recently
celebrated 59 years of marriage.In
1970, Myron purchased land east of Ashland, where he and Susan established a
home and were blessed with four daughters.&nbsp;Myron
was a lifetime farmer and rancher. His passion was the family farm, where he
worked long hours, preparing a future to pass on to his children. He was
self-motivated, dedicated to his family and his work.He
enjoyed farm auctions, cattle sales, and visiting with friends. Known for his
quick wit and love of a good joke, Myron was a storyteller at heart. He could
do extensive math calculations in his head, and had an uncanny ability to
remember things in the past with great accuracy. He was a good mechanic, and
often found creative solutions to challenges on the farm.&nbsp;He
enjoyed rodeos and western movies. Myron was a lifelong fan of sports,
especially local high school games, KC Chiefs football, and KU basketball. His
later years were spent enjoying his grandchildren’s activities.Myron
is survived by his wife Susan; his daughters: Sheri Darnell (Clint) of
Protection, Emily Breit (Jason) of Hays, Amy Gregg (Shane) of Hays, and Connie
Howard (Jason) of Halstead; 11 grandchildren: Ashley Darnell-Cox (Daniel),
Meghan (Darnell) Stephens (Jose), Austin Darnell, Gretchen Darnell, Maxwell
Breit, Ava Breit, Mahala Gregg, Dylan Gregg, Finn Howard, Aunna Howard, and
Archer Howard; three great-grandchildren: Jenna, Jase, and John Stephens; one
brother Don Edmonston; and numerous other relatives.&nbsp;He
was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Melba Swanson, and
brother-in-law Kenneth Swanson.Visitation
will take place Friday, October 4, with family present from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home in Coldwater.&nbsp;Memorial

Loyd “Gene” Tilton, 86, of Quinter, KS, passed away on September 27, 2024, in Salina, KS. Gene was born on October 1, 1937, in Quinter, KS to Loyd A. and Helen (Martin) Tilton. Being a lifelong resident of Quinter, Gene leaves a lasting legacy of family devotion and community development.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd A. and Helen Tilton; his father-in-law, Lloyd Bear; his grandson, Michael Tilton; and his son-in-law, Floyd Blackwill, Jr.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judith (Bear) Tilton, and his sister, Joan Gitchell.

Gene's memory lives on through his children: Don (Charla) Tilton, Carol (Robert) Walt, Susan (Dave) Jones, Ron (Susan) Tilton, Jill (Floyd, Jr.) Blackwill, and Robin Muhlheim. His grandchildren, who brought him great joy, include Lance (Erin) Tilton, Jamie (Dathan) Jamison, Amanda (Matthew) Coble, Tina (Lee) Sells, Tammy (John) Malinowsky, Brian (Jana) Walt, Melissa (Charles) Miller, Amanda (Jason) Trahan, Parker (Materason) Tilton, Liam Tilton, Rachel Tilton, Trevor (Katie) Blackwill, Trent Blackwill, Madeline Muhlheim, and Sam Muhlheim.

Gene was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren, including Anabell, Mia, and Maddox Villalaz; Gracie Coble; Amaya and Corbin Jamison; Quinn Tilton; Teghan (Brandon) Groff; Tayler (Corbin) Schoenthaler; Tanner (Paige) Sells; Tillie, Chad, Stan and Radley Malinowsky; Madison, Quintin, Aceton and Keaton Walt; Owen and Liam Miller; Emmalyn and Taelynn Trahan; Braelyn, Easton and Tripp Blackwill.

Additionally, he is survived by his great-great-grandsons, Ty and Cal Schoenthaler.

Gene devoted his life to raising, buying and selling cattle and farming. His life was a testament to love, dedication, and hard work. His presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A public visitation will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., both at the Church of the Brethren, 700 Grant St., Quinter, KS 67752. Burial will immediately follow the service at the Baker Township Cemetery. A meal will be served at the Fellowship Hall after interment.

C. “Tutz” Thomas, age 103, gracefully left this world on September 26, 2024, at
Redbud Village, Plainville, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy marked by strength,
kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She was born
on July 29, 1921, in Graham County, Kansas to Charles and Ola (Scruggs) Griffe.
On December 11, 1950, she married Robert O. Thomas in Broomfield, Colorado. He
preceded her in death in 1989.

A proud graduate of Hill City High School, Valeria life was a tapestry of rich
experiences. Shortly after school, she made the brave decision to move to
Denver. This was during the World War II era where she took a position at
Remington Steel, working tirelessly to produce ammunition. Her journey
continued as she relocated to Hanford, Washington, where she contributed to the
factory involved in the making of the Atomic Bomb. After her marriage to Robert
they moved to Plainville, where she devoted thirty years of her life to the
Plainville Rural Hospital, caring for many in her community with her nurturing
spirit.



Valeria was not just a devoted caregiver; she was also a vibrant participant in
various local organizations. Her spirit shone brightly as she led a Girl Scout
troop, became an active member of the Nicodemus American Legion Auxiliary, and
contributed to 4-H and the VFW Auxiliary. These roles allowed her to leave a
lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals who were fortunate enough
to know her.
&nbsp;


Beyond her professional accomplishments, Valeria was cherished for her baking;
her cookies were beloved by many, including the esteemed Bob Dole during his
visit to Nicodemus. Her remarkable cooking was a symbol of her generous heart
and the joyful memories she created around the dining table.



Valeria's proudest achievements included rising above the challenges of the
Great Depression and actively promoting her community. She selflessly donated
her home in Nicodemus to the historical society, ensuring that it would serve
as a meaningful part of the museum and office. Furthermore, she was honored by
the Nicodemus Historical Society as a centenarian, a testament to her vibrant
life and contributions.



She is survived by her loving daughters, Ola B. Pruitt (Rev. James) of Aurora,
Colorado and Kim Thomas of Stockton, Kansas. Her legacy continues through her
grandchildren, Shawn Harris of Austin, Texas, and Atiba "Kyle" Allah
of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, along with her great-grandchildren, El Asim,
Faheem, Mecca, Suleimon, Soledad, Elogio, Amado, Eliana, Lexi, Ihssan, and her
great-great-grandchildren, Leilah, and Kai.



Valeria was preceded in death by her stepfather, Henry Wilson who raised her
from the age of 4; a brother, Maurice Griffie, and her nephew, Paul Richard
Reece, whom she lovingly raised. As we celebrate the full and beautiful life of
Tutz, we remember a woman whose strength, compassion, and dedication have
forever touched our hearts and enriched our community.



Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on October 7, 2024, at the First Christian
Church 301 S. Broadway Street in Plainville. Burial will follow in the

Lynn Scheck, age 67, of Russell, Kansas passed away on September 24, 2024 at
HaysMed. She was born on December 28, 1956, in Russell to Nathan and Dorothy
(Anderson) Karst. She met Everett “Butch” Hupfer and they made a life together
for over thirty years. Butch preceded her in death on Mays 13, 2023. 

Kay graduated from Gorham High School. Over the years, she became well-known as
a cook at the Elks Lodge and Waudby's in Russell. Beyond her professional life,
Kay had a myriad of hobbies that reflected her vibrant personality. She enjoyed
playing bingo, fishing, baking, painting, and engaging in various crafts. A
passionate reader, Kay also loved "junking" at area sales, often
turning her finds into treasures. Most treasured of all were the moments she
spent with her grandchildren, who brought immense joy and fulfillment to her
life.



Kay is survived by her son, Clint Hejny (Jevon) of Russell, KS; daughters,
Melanie Hoch (Jesse) of Gorham, KS, Jennifer Ayala of Russell, KS, and Keri
Hejny of Russell, KS; brother, Ed Karst (Nancy) of Aurora, CO; sister, Kathy
Hashenberger (Dave) of Russell, KS; as well as 14 grandchildren: Devin, Hannah,
Brody, Kaylee, Olivia, Clayton, Blake, Leslie, Selena, Kyelynn, Adam, Adison,

Paul
Dinkel, age 75, passed away Friday, September 20, 2024, at his home in
Stilwell, OK. He was born on August 18, 1949, in Hays, Kansas to Nicholas and
Leoba (Geist) Dinkel. Paul was a dedicated and loving husband to Darlene
(Johnson), whom he married on May 17, 1980. She preceded him in death July 4,
2015.



He worked for Leo Groff as a teenager in Ellis, Kansas, then moved to Denver to
work construction with his brothers. He then moved to Stilwell, Oklahoma and
worked for Tyson where he retired after working there for many years. After his
retirement he worked for Stuteville Ford in Tahlequah delivering vehicles. In
his spare time, he enjoyed crocheting, genealogy, visiting with family and
friends, new and old, as well as lending a hand at the Stilwell Senior Center.
Paul never met a stranger.



He was a proud member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
He served as eucharistic minister and often led the rosary before church. He
was a 4th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.



He is survived by his daughters, Donna Wefer of Haskell, OK, and Andrea
Brown-Harris, OK; brothers, LeRoy Dinkel, Golden, CO, Verlin Dinkel, Henderson,

Wesley Dean
Flinn, 56, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away on September 25th, 2024, in his truck
in Summit, Illinois.&nbsp; He was born in
Oakley, Kansas, on January 9th, 1968, to Arnold and Belva Flinn.&nbsp; He was the youngest of three boys.

Wes was an over-the-road
truck driver for several years and spent five years running his own business, a
car detail shop in Hays, along with driving for some local trucking
companies.&nbsp; He was always in a hurry to
get home and see his wife and family.&nbsp;
When Wes wasn’t in the truck, he enjoyed collecting and working on
pickups and has always loved loud exhaust, his pet snakes, and his dogs and
cat.

Wes had two
children:&nbsp; his son Nathan Barnhardt and
daughter Bridget Schlereth.&nbsp; Wes started
dating Rhonda Tauber and was married in 2005.&nbsp;
Through this union, he gained three more children:&nbsp; Wesley, Tony, and Trista.

Wes was
preceded in death by his father, Arnold, son, Nathan, and step-brother, Dustin
Richardson.

Wes is survived
by his wife Rhonda of the home, mother Belva, daughter Bridget Schlereth,
step-sons:&nbsp; Wesley (Anna) Gilliland and
Tony Gilliland, step-daughter, Trista (Jordan) Komarek; mother and
father-in-law, Delores (Verlin) Richardson and his father-in-law Charles
Tauber; brothers:&nbsp; Rick Flinn and Mitch
Flinn, brothers-in-law:&nbsp; Travis (Julli)
Tauber and Troy (Stacy) Tauber, step-sisters:&nbsp;
Stacy (Darin) Honeyman, Kristy (Clint) Howard, and Lacey Richardson
(Brett); and 15 nieces and nephews, along with numerous aunts, uncles and
cousins.

Funeral Service
is 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home with
Pastor Kyle Bloom officiating.&nbsp; Private
inurnment with family will be held at a later date in the Oakley Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to service

Wesley Dean Flinn

Marion Gene Brooks, son of Frank Hobart Brooks and Minnie Leola Kesler
Brooks, was born on October 14, 1928, on the family’s Gove County farm in the
new house his father was building. He passed away on September 22, 2024, at the
age of 95.

He graduated from Sunshine Grade School in rural Gove County, where he would
walk three miles home from school with neighboring children when the weather
was warm. Afterward, he began learning about farming. Later, he met Joyce
Julianna Hammond while roller skating in WaKeeney. While dating, he learned
that her birthday was October 13, one day before his, so they agreed to be
married on October 15, 1950, at the Methodist Church in WaKeeney.

This union was blessed with four children: Gale Eugene, Charles (Chuck)
Leon, Mark Franklin, and Rita Joyce.

As a teenager, Marion gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized. As a
member of the Dunkard Brethren Church, he served as a deacon, Sunday School
superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and treasurer.

Marion enjoyed farming, painting, and constructing houses. He also worked
for Midwest Products, Flex King Industries, and Quinstar for 29 years, and
subsequently at the Swift Bullet Co. In his later years, he kept busy in his
home shop, making various wooden gifts for family and friends.

Marion enjoyed playing fast-pitch softball and volleyball. He and Joyce
traveled the world, visiting 35 countries. They especially appreciated river
cruises and trips to the Holy Land. During retirement, they became "Winter
Texans" in McAllen, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister, Eunice; sister,
Leona Reed; and brother, Merlin Brooks.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce, and their children: Gale (Sherry),
Chuck (Denise), Mark, and Rita (Mark Avila). His 13 grandchildren are Neysa
(Steve Hodes), Rochelle (Jared Comfort), Taylor Brooks (Bonnie), Tauni (Nate
Seyer), Melissa Whitaker, Melinda (Daniel Shinault), Bryon (Jessica Brooks),
Bradley Brooks, Kristal (Garrett Werth), Jessica (Eric Jacques), Morgan (Mike
Lawson), Andrew (Aaron Avila), and Matthew Avila.

His 32 great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “GGPa,” are Stevie,
Peyton, Hudson, Kensington, Ocean, Indigo, Sapphire, Symphony, Midnight, Navy,
Owen, Delaney, Avery, Makenna, Hannah, Caleb, Jaydon, Clara, Lexie, Kennedy,
Sydney, Colt, Jordan, Bekah, Logan, Emery, Addilyn, Cooper, Colby, Evan, Cyrus,
and Isla. He is also survived by brothers-in-law Paul (Terry Hammond) and Bill
Reed, sister-in-law Janis Milwee, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Schmitt Funeral Home, located at 901 South Main
St., Quinter, KS, on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

A funeral service will take place at Church of the Brethren, located at 700
Grant St., Quinter, KS, on Saturday, October 5, 2024, beginning at 10:00 a.m.,
with interment immediately following at Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter, KS.

Shirley Ann Hand, devoted wife and mother went home to be with the Lord on September 22, 2024. She was born on August 09, 1933, and was 91 when she passed away at Hays Medical Center, Hays, KS. Her services will begin at 11:00 AM on September 30, 2024 at Linwood Baptist Church, Linwood, KS preceded by a viewing at 10:00 AM. She was the wife of Stanley Hand (deceased) and the mother of four children: Alan Hand (deceased)-(Cindy Hand) Deerfield, NH, Scott Hand – Linwood KS, Leigh (David) Coffman -Tonganoxie, KS, and Brenda (Mitchell) Van Voorhees – Burdett, KS.

&nbsp;She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Michael and Jacob Hand, Benjamin, Joseph, Matthew, and Joshua Coffman and 7 great grandchildren.

She was born in Easton, KS to Lillian Moeller Meints and Christian Meints. She moved to Tonganoxie, KS as a child. She was involved in 4-H, EHU, Sertoma, Tonganoxie Seniors, and a member of St. Martins Lutheran Church, Kansas City, KS. Later, she also attended Linwood Baptist Church, Linwood, KS.

She and Stanley loved camping and visiting all 50 states. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crafts, baking, sewing, and gardening. She worked as a beautician until she was married and a mother. Later, she worked for Peruvian Connection, Tonganoxie, KS. One of her favorite hymns was What a Friend we have in Jesus. Her faith helped her throughout her life, and she lived a full and fruitful life.

Her two brothers, twins, Richard Meints and Robert Meints, and her three sisters: Gertrude Dunlap, Ethelyn Wager, and Carolyn Pantle – all have gone on to be with the Lord.

Memorials are suggested to Burdett Seniors Inc., in care of the funeral home.

Victoria Riley

Jeffrey Todd McWilliams, 52, departed this life September 19, 2024 at Salina Regional Hospital. He was born July 12, 1972 to Jesse and Gloria (Oster) McWilliams in Topeka. Jeff’s high school years began in St. Francis, Kansas and his senior year was completed at Hill City.

Following high school, he located in Dodge City where he was employed by W.W. Manufacturing and other independent contractors. He later moved to Lawrence where he trimmed trees and did some landscaping. Eventually he started his own lawn and landscaping business there and continued that business on his return to Hill City. His passion for creating beautiful outdoor spaces reflected his love for nature and the environment.

Luckily, he met Mary Jones and her daughter Lauren. This meeting changed Jeff’s life. In 2001 they welcomed their daughter Ryonna McWilliams into the world. After the birth of Ryonna, they were married in 2003. Their last daughter Alexis came into the world in 2006. With Jeff’s and Mary’s family complete, the five of them had many good times together. His girls were his world.

As a new adventure in business, Jeff and his father became partners and established McWilliams Construction. After several years, Jeff took over and continued the business on his own.

Hunting, fishing and motocross racing were among his favorite hobbies. He also had a great love for animals. Often you would find him spending time with his dogs, or feeding, as well as naming, the neighborhood squirrels.

Jeff was preceded in death by his grandparents. He is survived by his parents: Jesse and Gloria McWilliams of Hill City; his wife Mary McWilliams of Hill City; three daughters: Lauren Jones (Casey Clinger) of Hoxie, Ryonna McWilliams and Alexis McWilliams both of Manhattan; a brother Pat McWilliams (Brian Riegel) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; an uncle Everett K. McWilliams; aunts: Joan Albrecht of Montana, Janice Jackson of Nebraska; many nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

Earl Allen Schmidt, 95, passed away on
August 16, 2024, surrounded by family at River Bend Assisted Living, Great
Bend, Kansas. He was born on August 20, 1928, in rural Barton County to Henry
and Anna (Unruh) Schmidt. In March 1948, he married Charlotte “Janice” Flick in
Pawnee Rock, Kansas.

A lifetime area resident, Earl worked
as a farmer and drove a school bus for Pawnee Rock Schools for 35 years. He was
a member of the First United Methodist Church, as well as the Pawnee Rock Lions
Club. He enjoyed collecting and restoring tractors, and square dancing in his
younger years.

Survivors include his wife of 76
years, Janice; two sons, Michael Schmidt and wife Janet of Cornelius, Oregon,
and Dennis Schmidt and wife Terrie of Cape Coral, Florida; daughter, Brenda
Girard of Hays; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous
nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents
and eight siblings.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial
service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at First United
Methodist Church, 2123 Forest Ave., Great Bend, with Pastor Diana Webster
presiding. Memorials have been designated to First United Methodist Church or
Great Bend Lions Club, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great
Bend, KS 67530.

Earl Allen Schmidt

Reverend Fred Kirkpatrick, Jr., age
93, passed away September 11, 2024, at his home in Salina, Kansas. After 77
years of pastoring, he has gone to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. 

A devoted Pastor, Husband, Father,
Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Fred dedicated his life to serving Jesus in
everything he did. 

He was born on <a href="calendar:T2:October%2021,%201930">October 21, 1930</a>, in Dodge
City, Kansas, to Fred Kirkpatrick, Sr. and Eva Lodema (Badgley) Kirkpatrick.
The grandson of one of the early Dodge City founders, J.M. Kirkpatrick, Fred
often shared stories of old Dodge City and its more raucous days which his
grandfather had witnessed.

Before television was invented, his
family gathered around the big old radio in the living room to listen to the
gospel being preached and he found salvation in Jesus Christ. As a young boy,
Fred saw the patrons frequenting the many bars and saloons along Front Street
and witnessed to them about Jesus and His redemptive power.

At the young age of 17, Fred felt
called to attend Fort Wayne Bible College (now Taylor University) in Fort
Wayne, Indiana, and become a minister. During the years he attended there, he
and Sally Hoofnagle, also from Dodge City, were married and began a life
adventure together on <a href="calendar:T2:May%2030,%201950">May 30, 1950</a>.&nbsp;
They lived in Fort Wayne until he completed Bible college.

Following graduation and ordination,
the Kirkpatricks moved to Great Bend, Kansas, where they started their first
church on Main Street in 1952. As that church grew, he moved the little white
chapel building to East 19th street and held services. And finally, he and the
congregation purchased the old County Farm west of Great Bend, where it became
known as Faith Community Church and Bible College. 

An engineer by trade, he worked for
many decades at E.B.H. Engineers in Great Bend, designing and constructing
countless community infrastructure projects. He loved that work and took the
message of the Gospels with him daily. Through his testimony, many people came
to know the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. 

His passion for Christ drove every
aspect of his life. Fred’s vision for a great revival meant not only holding
thrice weekly services at Faith Community Church, but also holding nightly
services in small communities and homes across Kansas – Mondays in Bunker Hill,
Tuesdays in Pratt, Thursdays in Hays and Ellis, Fridays at Full Gospel
Businessmen’s meetings across the entire state and Sunday afternoons at the
County Jail. 

He brought the Billy Graham Film
Crusades, Teen Challenge meetings and Women’s Aglow to the area. He was also a
State Director for Women’s Aglow for many years. Through his leadership and
stewardship in these endeavors, many gave their lives to Christ and followed
him into the ministry where they serve still <a href="calendar:T5:today">today</a>.

After losing his wife Sally to cancer,
Fred married Glenda (Mountford) Jahnke on <a href="calendar:T2:September%2022,%201989">September 22, 1989</a>. This
year marks their 35 years working together for Christ. They brought comfort to
many through a ministry of teaching, singing and praising the Lord across
Kansas and beyond.

Preaching over 15,000 sermons, Fred’s
central message never wavered: The grace of God brings salvation. He always
taught that God in His great love sent His only Son into the world to be
sacrificed for all of mankind’s sins. And in that simple message, many found
the “peace that passes all understanding.” Hearts were changed, families
healed, broken bodies mended, and encouragement filled the hearts of those
wherever he went. 

He was preceded in death by his first
wife Sally, his parents, Fred and Eva Kirkpatrick, plus siblings Kay and Kenton
Kirkpatrick.

He is survived by his wife Glenda of
the home; his loving children, Kristi (Bruce) Kraisinger, Kevin (Paula Stout) Kirkpatrick,
and Linda (Doug) Basye, Dr. Lavelle (Doug Stickland) Ellis, and Rev. Broc
(Alicia) Jahnke. He had 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren at the time
of his passing. &nbsp;

As an honor to his life’s work, he
requested no funeral service so that Jesus may be glorified rather than the
works of one man. There will be a praise and worship service at Faith Community
Church, 293 W. Barton County Road, Great Bend, Kansas at on October 5, 2024, at
2:00 p.m.

Pastor Kirkpatrick planned this
service in advance of his death, and he wanted to have a joyous celebration of
his homecoming to heaven. The family has requested in lieu of flowers,
donations be made to Faith Community Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home,
1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

The family wants to extend to all
friends, a generous and prayerful “thank you” for your faithfulness to God’s
work down through the years. May God grant you all the Grace and Peace that

93, passed away September 11, 2024, at his home in Salina, Kansas. After 77
years of pastoring, he has gone to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A devoted Pastor, Husband, Father,
Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Fred dedicated his life to serving Jesus in
everything he did. He was born on <a href="calendar:T2:October%2021,%201930">October 21, 1930</a>, in Dodge
City, Kansas, to Fred Kirkpatrick, Sr. and Eva Lodema (Badgley) Kirkpatrick.
The grandson of one of the early Dodge City founders, J.M. Kirkpatrick, Fred
often shared stories of old Dodge City and its more raucous days which his
grandfather had witnessed. Before television was invented, his
family gathered around the big old radio in the living room to listen to the
gospel being preached and he found salvation in Jesus Christ. As a young boy,
Fred saw the patrons frequenting the many bars and saloons along Front Street
and witnessed to them about Jesus and His redemptive power.At the young age of 17, Fred felt
called to attend Fort Wayne Bible College (now Taylor University) in Fort
Wayne, Indiana, and become a minister. During the years he attended there, he
and Sally Hoofnagle, also from Dodge City, were married and began a life
adventure together on <a href="calendar:T2:May%2030,%201950">May 30, 1950</a>.&nbsp;
