Carolyn Lou Robinson, 93, Hays, died Monday, September 2, 2024 at Via Christi Village.

She was born April 17, 1931 in El Reno, Oklahoma, the daughter of Roy R. and Mariam (Forrest) Allison.&nbsp; Carolyn graduated from Brewster High School in 1949 and attended Kansas State University.&nbsp; On August 27, 1950 she was united in marriage to Edwin S. Robinson in Brewster, and he preceded her in death on May 9, 1962.&nbsp; Carolyn was a homemaker and worked various jobs.&nbsp; For 20 years, she worked in customer service for CVS Health in Phoenix, Arizona, retiring in 2011.&nbsp; Carolyn was a member of the United Methodist Church, played in her church bell choir at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed her bowling league, square dancing, and playing cards.

Survivors include her two sons, Larry Robinson and wife Loretta of Gold Canyon, AZ and Rick Robinson and wife Lexie of Hays, two daughters, Gail Schoenberger and husband Dan of Garden City and Susan Engel and life partner Lester Seibert of Nickerson, a sister, Pat Wright of Oakley, six grandchildren, Shelli Ward, Ashley Robinson, Bethany Robinson, Christopher Engel, Cody Engel and wife Tiffany, and Titus Smith, four great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin, and three grandchildren, Holly Dee Schoenberger, Jeffrey Daniel “J.D.” Schoenberger, and Courtney Dawn Engel.

Private family inurnment will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery in Cawker City.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Chapel at Via Christi Village.&nbsp; Services are entrusted to Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and condolences and memories of Carolyn may be left for her family at www.haysmemorial.com.

Logan Resident, Mildred A. Lappin, passed away Sept. 2, 2024 at the Logan Manor in Logan at the age of 84. &nbsp;She was born Sept 15, 1939 in Phillips Co.

Marvin “Pete” Elmer Dillon was born on Sept 26, 1919 to John &amp; Bessie Dillon on a farm NE of Portis, KS. He passed away at Parkview Care Center in Osborne on Sept 1, 2024, at the age of 104.

He was 1 of 6 children and they were raised on the farm in Smith County. Pete graduated from Portis High School in 1937. In 1941 he entered the US Army as a Medic and was honorably discharged in 1945. He went to work for List and Clark Construction and was a part of building the Portis Bridge and Waconda Lake along with several others until 1971. He then went to work for Hardman Wholesale until his retirement in 1991.

Pete married the love of his life, Edna Snyder, in 1957 and they were married for 57 years before she passed away in 2014. Pete cared for Edna in her declining years with a love that was for all to admire. He took her to church every Sunday when Edna was unable to go on her own.

Pete inherited Edna’s daughter, Coleene, when they married and soon became a Grandpa to Coleene’s 5 boys. He was known as Grandpa Pete until the day he died.

Rick says you did not touch stuff in his house that you weren’t supposed to or you got slapped with an emery board. He also says Grandpa Pete was the most fun Grandpa to be around

Troy says Grandpa made him shoot left-handed because he told him he couldn’t shoot very well with the other one. Grandpa and Grandma held picnics under the trees in their yard and a bird pooped on Troy's hamburger one day. Everyone was laughing and Pete said in his loud tone “eat it boy.”

Brad loved to pick up Grandpa every year to go hunting. He hunted every year until he was in his 90's. Although unable to hear, Grandpa would turn around in the field to shoot a bird.

Bob remembers when Grandpa was 78 he walked out onto Brad’s 2 story house roof standing straight up while Brad &amp; Bob were crawling because of how steep it was.

Billy says Grandpa and all the grandsons would love to go to the Harlan dam to fish.

Other family members shared memories too saying that Grandpa was a quiet man with an easy laugh. He smiled a lot when him and Grandma Edna were together. And he was always welcoming to nieces and other family members when they came to visit

Many of the great grandchildren have sweet memories of his daily walk with Grandma Edna and working in his garden.

Pete was a true servant all of his years. Edna and Pete had their routine. Edna would cook and Pete would clean up every meal. Pete was always there helping Edna, Coleene or the grandsons on whatever was needed. He hauled cheesy green beans and roast beef or turkey with all the fixings to Coleene’s house for years for the whole family.

I had a dear family friend remind me of a Bible Verse that speaks so much truth that applies to Grandpa so well. James Chapter 1, Verse 12; Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Grandpa loved showing old family home movies at Christmas time from when the grandson’s were little. He also shared his adventures of hoboing across the country; jumping trains and catching chickens for food.

Grandpa and his brother, Wayne, went fishing together often and neither one could hear. They would always yell at each other about having a bite and they didn’t have a clue the other one was yelling.

Grandpa “Pete” was preceded in death by his wife Edna in 2014, his parents John and Bessie and his 5 siblings; Wayne, Ruby Louise, Gladys, and Gilbert.

He is survived by his daughter, Coleene, and husband, Bill, of Osborne. His 5 grandsons; Bill (Sheri), Bob (Teri), Brad (Melissa), Troy (Shelia), and Rick (Karen); all of Osborne. 20 great grandchildren, 31 great-great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild. Grandpa lived alone for 10 years after Grandma Edna died. He spoke to Edna at her funeral stating that he would be seeing her soon. He moved in with Coleene and Bill for his last 8 months because of declining health. He was in the hospital for a few days in August and then in Parkview for less than a week.

We will miss you Grandpa Pete. Thank you for being so good to all of us. We are happy you are joining Grandma Edna and will be able to enjoy your walks together once again.

Ila Ilene Robertson Ray, age 101, passed away on August 28, 2024. Ila was born to Frank and Tressie Robertson, going to country school and then high school in Oberlin. After high school, she went to business school and then moved to Denver, during World War II, working as a bookkeeper for the railroad. One night in Denver, she went out with her cousin and friends. He said “bring a couple of gals!” which she did. That night each girl met their future husband. Ila met Miles who was a pilot in the Air Force. After the war, they were married and Miles schooled in watchmaking. They apprenticed in Brush, Colorado and then moved to Oberlin and opened Ray Jewelry. Ila and Miles had three daughters which all survive her. Vicky of Oberlin, Karen of Littleton, CO, and Marla of Sanibel, FL.

Ila was very active in her community as a founding member of the Pi Alpha club and the Oberlin Golf Club. She played pinochle and bridge and bowled on a team. She also loved to travel and had been to most continents with her husband and sister.

She is survived by her 3 daughters, her 4 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Miles, and her parents, sister Velva Jean and 2 brothers Archie and Merlyn.

Ramona Yvonne Barnes, 70, of Norcatur, passed away August 29, 2024 at her home in Norcatur. She was born May 31, 1954 in Saginaw, MI to Lloyd C. and Mary L. (Knorr) Sampson.

Ramona grew up in Bridgeport Township, MI and was a 1972 graduate of Bridgeport High School. After high school, she attended nursing school and received her LPN License. Ramona worked at Sentana Norfolk General Hospital and Virginia Beach General Hospital where her focus was on the ICU, Cardiac Care and Internal Organ Specialties. Ramona and Steve moved to Kansas in 2008 to be closer to her family. She then began working at the Good Samaritan Society in Oberlin and she worked there until her health no longer allowed her. Ramona married Steve Barnes on August 16, 2013 at the Norton Christian Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping, baking, and crafts (including crocheting and sewing). Most of all, she loved and adored her grandchildren. Ramona loved the Lord and was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Michigan (where she was in the Hand Bell Choir) and then she was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Norton. She volunteered a lot of her time being a Girl Scout Leader and helping with AWANAS.

Ramona is survived by her husband, Steve of the home; son, Jonathan (Mandi) Fick of Norton; daughter, Jennifer Kohfeld of Norton; sister, Elaine Sampson of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren: Madison Fick, Jeffrey Fick, Alexis Kohfeld, and Wesley Kohfeld and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, David Sampson.

Robert (Bob) Hugh Fossum, 91, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, in McCook, Nebraska. Bob was born on May 10, 1933, to Oliver Emil Fossum and Edith British Fossum in Rugby, North Dakota.

Bob was raised in Rugby and graduated from Rugby High School in 1951. After high school Bob went to California where he enlisted in the Air Force. While he was stationed at East St. Louis Air Force Base, he met his future wife, Marilynn Wiley. Bob went oversea to Korea and one year later came back to St. Louis to ask Marilynn to marry him. They were married April 23, 1955. They have been together for 69 years. Bob loved talking to people which was an asset to being a good salesman. He was always interested in cars and enjoyed watching sports.

He is survived by his wife Marilynn (Wiley) Fossum; son: Bob J. Fossum of Oakley, KS; daughters: Debra M. Helm of Norcatur, KS, and Beverly A. Starman of Oakdale, NE. 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother: John Fossum of Surprise, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ron and Phillip; sister: Sheryl.

Robert (Bob) Hugh Fossum

Floyd Merlynn Colip, known as Lynn or “Doc", a longtime resident of Norton, Kansas, died on August 28, 2024 in Loveland, Colorado, at the age of 89. He was a family physician and farmer in Norton.

Lynn was born March 24, 1935, on the family farm northeast of Almena, Kansas, to Floyd and Bernice (Hines) Colip. His grandparents were homesteaders in Norton County. Lynn graduated from Almena Rural High School in 1953 and earned an FFA State Farmer Degree. Lynn followed his sister June into the healthcare field, graduating from the University of Kansas in 1957 and KU School of Medicine in 1961. At KU Lynn met his beloved wife, Joan Eubank from Pratt, Kansas, and they married on August 18, 1957. His love for the Lord was his grounding and compass in life. Lynn and Joan raised four children in Norton—Janet, Susan, Polly, and Michael.

For 38 years, Lynn practiced family medicine in Norton where he served three generations of some families and delivered 1200 babies. He practiced with esteemed partners Drs. Long, Hartman, Hartley, Meyer, and Silan; plus his nurse clinician Jean Ann Wilson, along with many valued nurses and staff at the clinic and Norton County Hospital.

Early in his medical practice, Lynn became concerned with helping community members who were struggling with alcohol addiction. This concern was shared by Rev. Bob Adams, and in 1967 they cofounded Valley Hope Treatment Center in Norton, along with the support of many Norton community leaders. Valley Hope Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centers are now located in six states and have helped hundreds of thousands of people with addictions. Lynn served on the Valley Hope board for over 50 years.

The love of the land was Lynn’s heritage, and also he was a lifelong farmer and later rancher. Lynn loved a picnic on the farm, a walk in the pasture, rides on the goat swings, telling stories, hosting Colip family reunions, and teaching his children and grandchildren to work on the farm. His wife Joan was his number one supporter.

The Colip family worshiped and served at Norton Christian Church, where Lynn was an elder and Sunday School teacher, and he also served on the Manhattan Christian College board. After retirement, Lynn spearheaded the effort to build Pikes Peak Regional Hospital in Woodland Park, Colorado. He was a life member and served as a board trustee for the Christian Medical &amp; Dental Associations, and attending their annual family conferences at Deer Valley Ranch in Colorado was a highlight for the whole family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Joan; daughter Janet (David Chestnut), daughter Susan (Jim Backer), daughter Polly Colip, and son Michael (Nanette); 14 grandchildren with seven spouses; and 10 great-grandchildren; one nephew and two nieces.

Floyd Merlynn Colip, known as Lynn or “Doc", a longtime resident of Norton, Kansas, died on August 28, 2024 in Loveland, Colorado, at the age of 89. He was a family physician and farmer in Norton.Lynn was born March 24, 1935, on the family farm northeast of Almena, Kansas, to Floyd and Bernice (Hines) Colip. His grandparents were homesteaders in Norton County. Lynn graduated from Almena Rural High School in 1953 and earned an FFA State Farmer Degree. Lynn followed his sister June into the healthcare field, graduating from the University of Kansas in 1957 and KU School of Medicine in 1961. At KU Lynn met his beloved wife, Joan Eubank from Pratt, Kansas, and they married on August 18, 1957. His love for the Lord was his grounding and compass in life. Lynn and Joan raised four children in Norton—Janet, Susan, Polly, and Michael.For 38 years, Lynn practiced family medicine in Norton where he served three generations of some families and delivered 1200 babies. He practiced with esteemed partners Drs. Long, Hartman, Hartley, Meyer, and Silan; plus his nurse clinician Jean Ann Wilson, along with many valued nurses and staff at the clinic and Norton County Hospital.Early in his medical practice, Lynn became concerned with helping community members who were struggling with alcohol addiction. This concern was shared by Rev. Bob Adams, and in 1967 they cofounded Valley Hope Treatment Center in Norton, along with the support of many Norton community leaders. Valley Hope Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centers are now located in six states and have helped hundreds of thousands of people with addictions. Lynn served on the Valley Hope board for over 50 years.The love of the land was Lynn’s heritage, and also he was a lifelong farmer and later rancher. Lynn loved a picnic on the farm, a walk in the pasture, rides on the goat swings, telling stories, hosting Colip family reunions, and teaching his children and grandchildren to work on the farm. His wife Joan was his number one supporter.The Colip family worshiped and served at Norton Christian Church, where Lynn was an elder and Sunday School teacher, and he also served on the Manhattan Christian College board. After retirement, Lynn spearheaded the effort to build Pikes Peak Regional Hospital in Woodland Park, Colorado. Patricia Mae Hillery, age 91, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Logan County Senior Living in Oakley, Kansas. A lifetime resident of Scott County, Kansas, she was a homemaker, waitress, cook, and postal employee.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas where she enjoyed the Women’s Morning Prayer Group.

On April 28, 1951, she married H. Clifford Hillery in Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on March 3, 2021, in Scott City, Kansas.

Helen Frances Brungardt Van Quaethem, 84 of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on August 31, 2024 in Overland Park, Kansas.

Helen was born February 24, 1940, in Codell, KS to Joseph and Elizabeth (Wellbrock) Brungardt.&nbsp; She was a 1958 graduate from Hays High School and then attended classes at the Brown Mackie School of Business in Salina, Kansas.&nbsp; Later, she received an Associate in Arts degree from Longview Community College and then a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri.&nbsp; She was employed at Western Auto for 13 years and later worked for Accountants on Call.&nbsp; She became a Mary Kay Consultant on September 15, 1986 spending 38 years building relationships with her clients, earning several team unit/corporate awards and earning her name on the Silver Wings wall at the Mary Kay Global Headquarters.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church-Kansas City where she volunteered for various jobs over the years and also was a Eucharistic Minister.&nbsp; Helen enjoyed reading, traveling, painting and cooking.&nbsp; Over the years she enjoyed making dinners for large family gatherings and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp; Helen also liked organizing and going out for lunch and dinner with friends and family.&nbsp;

She is survived by her two daughters, Ronda Van Quaethem and husband Douglas Veach, Renee Van Quaethem and husband Michael van der Breggen; and two grandsons, Jake and Luke van der Breggen.&nbsp; She is survived by her sister Doreen Wildeman, brother Dale and his wife Thuong Brungardt, brother-in-law Cornelius “Corny” Enslinger, sister-in-law Irene Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her grandparents Balthasar and Rosa (Frank) Brungardt, and John and Anna (Brockelman) Wellbrock; her parents Joseph and Elizabeth (Wellbrock) Brungardt; sisters Mary Brungardt, Rose Brungardt, Mae Suppes, Geraldine “Gerri” Enslinger and brother-in-laws Edward “Eddie” Suppes and Francis Wildeman.&nbsp;

Joyce Elaine Fiskin, 85, of Fairway, Kansas was born in Norton, Kansas on March 27, 1939. She graduated from high school in Stockton, Kansas. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Anthology of Olathe, Kansas under the care of Crossroads Hospice. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Max Fiskin; her parents, Kenneth and Mable Buss; twin sisters Kathleen Frazier and Theresa Buss. She is survived by her sister Jerilyn and her husband David Couch of Russell; brother-in-law Gene Frazier of Topeka; her son Shawn Fiskin and fiancé Tiffany Rodriguez of Olathe; and their children, Liam, Conner, Reagan and A.J; daughter Shandin and her husband Patrick Duffer of Houston,Texas; and their children, Zach, Genevieve, Christian, Nolan and BreeShe and her husband had lived in Manhattan, Kansas; Baltimore, Maryland; the Netherlands; and Kansas City.

She was retired after working in hospital medical records departments. &nbsp;She was a kind and caring wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Fiskin's final resting place will be beside her husband at the Antioch Pioneer Cemetery in Merriam, Kansas. A memorial service will be scheduled in the fall at Old Mission United Methodist Church, Fairway, Kansas.

Judith “Judy” (Karnes) Weeks, 89, of Hoxie, Kansas passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at the Sheridan County Long Term Care. Judy, the first child of Floyd and Ida Nell (Schropp) Karnes, was born October 3, 1934, at the family home in Rural Sheridan County, Kansas. Judy was the oldest of three children. She attended elementary school at the Tasco School and graduated from the Sheridan County High School in Hoxie with the class of 1952. Judy was married to the love of her life, Al Weeks, on April 12, 1953, at the Hoxie Presbyterian Church. Judy and Al were blessed with four children, Marilyn, David, Donna, and Debra. They made their home in Sheridan County and moved to their forever farm home east of Hoxie in 1974.

Judy was a wonderful cook, and everything she made was from scratch. She was a seamstress. She could sew anything. Judy sewed clothes for her children, made beautiful quilts and did embroidery work. She made prom dresses for her children and grandchildren which were very beautiful. Judy and Al traveled to visit their children, grandchildren and attend family reunions. Family was especially important to them. Judy was a member the Tasco and Hoxie Presbyterian Church. She had a strong faith. Judy was a strong, beautiful woman. She was persistent and tenacious. She treated obstacles as steppingstones and met them head on, not letting them get her down. Judy’s strength and kindness will be missed.

Judy leaves to mourn her passing her children, David Weeks and wife Pam of Ellsworth, Kansas, Donna Simpson and husband Jeff of Mesa, Arizona, and Debra Shugart and her husband Russ of Parker, Colorado; sister-in-law, Ardith Karnes; seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and extended family and friends.

Judith “Judy” (Karnes) Weeks

Delilah (Lila) Staab, a retired homemaker and life-long resident of Hays, Kansas, passed away peacefully at Hays Medical Center on Thursday, 29 August 2024 at the age of 92.

Lila was born in Hays on January 11, 1932 to her parents Barney and Ida (Ruder) Herl. She has six brothers and sisters: Leander, Frances. Laurin, Gene, Orie, and Tom.Lila graduated from Girls Catholic High School in 1950.&nbsp; She waited patiently for the love of her life, and shortly after he returned from serving his country in the Korean War, Lila married Elmer G. Staab of Catharine, Kansas in May of 1952.

Lila and Elmer lived on 16th street for several years and then moved to their present home on Eldorado Lane in 1984. Lila worked at Travenol for many years while Elmer worked at Producers Gas Equities in Hays.&nbsp; Lila and Elmer enjoyed their joint retired life for a few short years until Elmer passed away in 1991.&nbsp; Lila continued to show her toughness and resilience by meticulously maintaining her home and beautiful gardens for the past 33 years.&nbsp; She spent endless hours in her garden, while also volunteering at the Community Assistance Center, and also selflessly volunteering for the Saint Joseph Church Catholic community for the past three decades.&nbsp; Still driving at the age of 92, Lila's 1996 Toyota Camry was on auto-pilot to the church, the grocery store, local restaurants and the beauty parlor.&nbsp; It was limited to a top speed of 35 miles/hour within the boundaries of Hays.

Sadly, Lila was also preceded in death by her daughters Lynnette Wetter (2017) and Janet Larson (2020).

She is survived by her daughter Sherry Staab of Ashland, Missouri, and her son, Lee A. Staab of Green Valley, Arizona. &nbsp;Lee is married to Wanda (Fisher) Staab of Hays, Kansas. Lynnette was married to Roger Wetter (deceased 2018) of Norton, Kansas and Janet was married to Creighton Larson, originally from WaKeeney, Kansas.

Lila has nine grandchildren: Nicole (Staab) Kempf, Jeremy Wetter, Chris Staab, Lee Staab II, Shane Larson, Angela Staab, Ryan Larson. Ashley Larson, and Kelsey (Larson) Nelson. Lila also has 23 great grandchildren scattered across our great nation.

Lila lived her whole life serving her church, her community, and her family.&nbsp; Loved and respected by all, Lila is now at peace with those family members who preceded her to everlasting life.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 6, 2024 at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; Lila will be laid to rest in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery beside her beloved Elmer, immediately following the funeral mass. &nbsp;Visitation will be Thursday 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM with a parish vigil and rosary service at 7:00 PM all at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory-Brock’s Chapel 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Robert J. Armbrister, age 93, of Ellis, Kansas passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society, Ellis. He was born December 10, 1930, in rural Ellis County to Fred J. and Ida (Schoenthaler) Armbrister. Robert graduated from Ellis High School and married Alma Pauline Huber on March 28, 1951, at Christ Lutheran Church in Ellis. Alma preceded him in death on December 27, 2008.

Robert was a lifelong farmer and worked in the oilfields for several years as a roughneck and driller. He also drove a School bus for Ellis public schools. Robert was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church.

He is survived by a son, Rick Armbrister and wife Susan of Salina, daughters, Dixie Armbrister of Newton, Sherry Fisher and husband Norb of Ellis and Michelle Armbrister and husband Carl of Newton; his grandchildren, Renee, Melissa, Miranda, Paul, Natalie and Trevor as well as great grandchildren, Alaina, Oliver, Evie, Vanessa, Denzel, Tyler, Tucker, Lillian and Ruby.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a daughter, Melanie Armbrister; and his brothers, Raymond, and Clarence Armbrister.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 4, 2024, with visitation starting at 1:00 PM until service time all at Keithley Funeral Chapel 400 E. 17th Ellis, Kansas 67637. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Robert George Feldt, age 70, of Augusta, Kansas, formerly of Hays passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024 at his home in Augusta, KS. He was born January 31, 1954 in Hays to John and Elizabeth (Moellering) Feldt. Robert graduated from Hays High in 1972.

On August 18, 1973 he married Linda Bieker in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis. He worked and retired from Boeing, Wichita after 27 years and was a proud Union member. His most recent position had him working on Big Bird (Air Force One when the president is not on board) when it needed repairs and/or maintenance. He loved to read, watch TV/movies, trivia, anything science fiction, family gatherings, home cooking and especially long conversations.

Robert is survived by his wife of almost 51 years, Linda; daughters Jennifer (Brian) Sullivan, Erika (Mindy) Mitchell; grandson Ethan Montano; and great-grandson Dominic; sister Joan (Bernard) Steckoll; brothers Mike, John (Josie) and Don Feldt; mother, Elizabeth Feldt; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Feldt.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas. Inurnment will follow in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorial visitation will take place prior to services starting at 10:30 AM at the church.

Robert George Feldt

Sheila Kay Schenk, 69, passed away peacefully in Smith Center, Kansas, on August 30, 2024. She was born on April 3, 1955, in Smith Center, Kansas, and was one of four children.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford “Jocko” Gillen and Norma Horning Gillen, as well as her brother, John Gillen.

Sheila attended Gaylord Grade School and Alton High School before transferring to Smith Center High School, where she graduated. She later continued her education at Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas.

Sheila married her high school sweetheart, Randy Schenk, and they recently celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage together.

Sheila’s life was deeply rooted in her unwavering faith and love for the Lord. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, bringing her peace and strength through all of life’s challenges.

Her greatest joys were her family, especially her children and grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart. Sheila cherished the time she spent with them, whether it was in her home or traveling to visit them. She always made sure her home was filled with love, warmth, and the delicious aromas of meals prepared with care. Cooking was one of Sheila’s passions, and she took great joy in preparing meals that brought her family together.

Sheila also dedicated over 20 years of her life to caring for children through her daycare. Her gentle and nurturing spirit touched the lives of countless families, and she was known for her patience, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the children she cared for. In addition to her work at the Pioneer newspaper office, Sheila also held various bookkeeping jobs in Smith Center, always bringing diligence and care to her work.

Sheila is survived by her loving husband, Randy Schenk; her children, Clifford (Jessica), Troy (Candace), Kyle (Kristen), and Jacob (Audra); and her nine cherished grandchildren: Gracie, Sawyer, Elenora, Nolan, Koen, Kolter, Cadence, Evelyn, and Kallen. She is also survived by her siblings, Marvin (Connie) Gillen and Marlene (Steve) Murphy, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Sheila also leaves behind her in-laws, who were an important part of her life and whom she considered her own family. She loved them deeply and cherished the close bonds they shared.

Sheila Kay Schenk

Raymond “Duane” Radcliffe was born September 21, 1929, the second child of Hobart and Mae (Flanders) Radcliffe, in rural Graham County, Kansas. He passed away August 29, 2024, at Dawson Place in Hill City, Kansas at the age of 94.

Duane attended part of his grade school years in Bogue until his dad Hobart found out that if he paid $25.00 Duane could go to school in Hill City. Beginning with fifth grade his dad paid so Duane could go to Hill City Grade School. Then they wondered how to get Duane there because no buses were running. The Art and Florence Morris family, who lived about a mile south of them, had two daughters who drove by their farm every day on their way to high school. So, arrangements were made for Vera (who later became Vera Fink) and Avis (who later became Avis Chipman) to pick up Duane every day and deliver him to Hill City Grade School. The only thing that Duane remembered about those rides is that one of the girls messed with her hair while the other one drove and sang, which always made for an interesting trip.

Growing up on the farm Duane had some interesting pets: two dogs that he dearly loved, a pet calf, and a pet pig. Duane recalled that the pig followed him around always trying to get into the grain bucket intended for the calves. Whenever Duane sat down the pig would sit beside him, never moving until Duane did.

After entering high school, Duane played on the basketball team, especially enjoying the time spent with his teammates. In 1947 he graduated from Hill City Memorial High School.&nbsp;Duane married Verna Jean Morris June 27, 1948, in Hill City. To this union four children were born: Ronald Duane, Diana Jean, Larry Eugene, and Brenda Ellen. He worked for the Graham County Highway Department as a road maintenance operator and mechanic. In 1956 he bought and operated the Standard Service Station. After selling the station Duane worked for Clear Creek as a truck driver and mechanic. Once his father’s health deteriorated, he decided he should farm full time. In 1973 Duane and seven other farmer friends formed Graham County Farmers Inc., a corporation with the sole purpose of receiving better prices for their commodities - mainly wheat, milo, and soybeans.

In their leisure time Duane and Verna Jean enjoyed boating and water skiing, snow skiing, and traveling – especially on many of the bank sponsored trips. Supporting their children and grandchildren’s activities through the years was extremely fun for them. Duane was preceded in death by his parents Hobart and Mae Radcliffe, an infant brother, and his wife of 74 years, Verna Jean. He leaves to mourn his children; Ron and wife Joy of Hill City; Diana and husband Larry Crosby of Littleton, Colorado; Larry and wife Shelly of Hill City; and Brenda Appelhans of Hill City; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, a brother-in-law Dean Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Austin “Ozzie” James Beckman, 31, of Holyrood, KS, died August 29, 2024. He was born April 27, 1993, to Doug and Melanie Beckman. Austin graduated in 2012 from Wheatland/Grinnell High School. After graduation, Austin started working and met Maleigha Siglinger-Albers. They were married on June 3, 2023, and had the light of Austin’s life, his son Atticus James Beckman.

What can be said about Oz that you all don’t already know, he was sunshine. He was the life of the party and lit up every room he walked into just like his dad, Doug. He knew no stranger and everyone he met was just a future friend. His smile and laugh were infectious, and to know him was to love him. Ozzie loved with his whole heart, he made everybody feel special. Ozzie‘s greatest joy was his son Atticus. He was the most loving, devoted and proud father.

He will be greatly missed, and life will not be as bright without him in it.

He was preceded in death by his father Doug Beckman; grandparents Kenneth and Luella Ribordy and Durwood “Swede” and Thelma Beckman.

His is survived by his wife Maleigha and son Atticus Beckman, of Hays; mother Melanie Beckman, of Holyrood; sister Tanya (Derek) Becker, of Russell; brothers, Brandon (Amber) Beckman, Holyrood, and Alex (Sandy) Beckman, Ellsworth; nieces and nephews, Tegan, Damon, Haven, Sage, and James.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 2, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Grinnell, KS. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell, with burial in the church cemetery. They were married on June 3, 2023, and had the light of Austin’s life, his son Atticus James Beckman.What can be said about Oz that you all don’t already know, he was sunshine. He was the life of the party and lit up every room he walked into just like his dad, Doug. He knew no stranger and everyone he met was just a future friend. His smile and laugh were infectious, and to know him was to love him. Ozzie loved with his whole heart, he made everybody feel special. Ozzie‘s greatest joy was his son Atticus. Austin “Ozzie” James Beckman

Ruth Irene Goodrum, 85, of Tribune, KS passed away on August 29, 2024. She was born July 25, 1939, to Henry and Bertha Brunswig. Ruth was raised on the family farm with her four siblings Bart, Robert, Berdine, and Helen. She attended and graduated from Greeley County High School.

Ruth was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening. She enjoyed the county fair where her flower arrangements would always win ribbons. After her children were raised she worked as a CNA at Greeley County Care Home until her retirement.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children Dwayne Goodrum, Rhonda Goodrum, Randy Goodrum, Sandra Hall, grandchildren Christopher Hall, Ashley Hall and Micheal Hall and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Bertha Brunswig, brothers Bart and Robert, sisters Berdine Kaeberle and Helen Green.&nbsp;

A private family graveside service will be held at the Greeley County Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the "Greeley County Long Term Care Activity Fund" care of Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 161, Leoti, KS 67861.

Ruth Irene Goodrum

William K. “Bill” Walker, age 79, passed away at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley, Kansas on Thursday, August 29, 2024. He was born on August 9, 1945, in Norton, Kansas, the son of William Gail &amp; Geraldine May Groves Walker. He was a resident of Oakley, Kansas since 2021 moving from West Plains, Missouri.

In 1963, Bill graduated from Medicine Lodge High School and then graduated from Southwestern College in Winfield four years later. He was in education for almost 50 years. After stints in Dodge City and Salina, he came to Scott City in 1969 where he taught and coached until 1975 when he moved to Union City, Oklahoma to teach at Yukon High School in Yukon, Oklahoma. In 1979 he moved back to Scott City to teach and also coach the Beaverette Basketball team. He then assisted with the boys’ basketball team from 1989 to 1992. He then transitioned to full-time administration until 2000 when he moved to Jewel County, Kansas.

At that point, he became a principal and then superintendent for the White Rock School District. After that, he was the superintendent for both the White Rock and Mankato School Districts until he led the effort to consolidate those two districts to form the Rock Hill School District in 2006. In 2013 he retired from education and moved to West Plains, Missouri until recently moving to Oakley, Kansas in May of 2021.

He was a member of the Ionia United Methodist Church in Ionia, Kansas

&nbsp;On December 18, 1966, he married Marilyn R. Stillwell in Friend, Kansas. She passed away on June 10, 2021, in Oakley, Kansas.

Survivors include One Son - Yancey &amp; Kristy Walker of Oakley, Kansas, Two Step Grandchildren - Christian Koch of Oakley, Kansas, Cadence Koch of Oakley, Kansas, One Sister - Judy Walker Link of Cunningham, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews.

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife, and One Daughter - Whitney Walker.

&nbsp;Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at the United Methodist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Pastor Dan Hutton presiding.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Visitation will be from 11:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, and 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home, 401 S. Washington St., Scott City, Kansas.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Doris Ilene Groff was born on July 15, 1931, in Ellis County to Edgar and Clara Aust. She passed away at the age of 93 at Good Samaritan in Ellis, Kansas on August 28, 2024.

Doris graduated from Hays High School with the class of 1948. On February 3, 1949, she married the love of her life, Homer Groff. He preceded her in death February 16, 2007. Through their years of marriage, four children joined the family; Sandra, Diana, Phil, and Linda.&nbsp;

Besides being a homemaker, she also worked outside the home for several years. Her last job was office manager for Hays Orthopedic Group.

Over the years, Doris had many interests. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing bridge, golfing, bowling, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Homer, brother Marvin and daughter Diana Santamaria.

She is survived by her daughters; Sandra Rafferty, Linda Calderone, son; Phil Groff, brother; Ed Aust, sister; Karen Noon, as well as her 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Brock's Chapel, 2509 Vine Street Hays, Kansas 67601. Phyllis Cecilia (Gottschalk) Murphy, age 83, formerly of Zurich, KS passed away August 29, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Center in Ellis, KS. Phyllis was born November 23, 1940, to John H. and Georgina Gottschalk in a farmhouse West of Schoenchen, KS. She went to a one room school while they lived south of Hays, then she attended St. Anthony grade school when they moved to Schoenchen.

Phyllis met Mike Murphy when he made a trip to Schoenchen with a friend and then again later in Colorado. They married on April 23, 1960, in Schoenchen. Mike preceded her in death on January 27, 2024.

Phyllis was a homemaker all her life, taking Care of their three daughters. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar, KS, she enjoyed knitting Afghans, crossword puzzles, scratch off lottery tickets but mostly she enjoyed her time with family.

She is survived by her three daughters, Vicki (Tony) Balthazor, Palco, KS; Connie Lieber, Osage City, KS; Lori (Doug) Knipp, Damar, KS; her sisters, Kathy Buhrle and Tina Nowak of Hays, KS; Ilene Ritz, Parsons, KS; Clarita Baker, Strong City, KS; brothers Earl Gottschalk, Schoenchen, KS, Terry Gottschalk, Logan, KS; 8 grandchildren,17 great grandchildren with 3 on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents; infant son, Kevin; brothers, John W. Gottschalk, Allen Gottschalk, Ronnie Gottschalk, Merlin Gottschalk; a sister, Patricia Gottschalk; and a son-in-law, David Lieber.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a parish vigil service beginning at 7:00 PM all at Keithley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Brock's Chapel, 2509 Vine Street Hays, KS 67601.
