Deloris M. (Inderlied) Pianalto, 94, of Atwood, died Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society, Atwood. She was born on November 29, 1929, in DeWitt, NE, the third child of William and Mildred Inderlied. Deloris was baptized on December 22, 1929, and confirmed on May 9, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church, in DeWitt, NE. Deloris attended Country School near the family farm where she was raised. She graduated from DeWitt High School in 1948, then went to work at the Elgin Watch Factory in Lincoln, NE.

In 1952, Deloris moved to California and married a service man in the Marines. They moved to Baton Rouge, LA when he got out of the service. They were blessed in 1956, with son Glenn and another son Roy, in 1969. After they divorced in 1974, Deloris moved back to her hometown, DeWitt, NE.

Deloris met and married Lester Pianalto on May 7, 1982, in Lincoln, NE. They lived on a dairy farm in Atwood, KS until moving into the town of Atwood in 1997.

Deloris joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Atwood, in October of 1994. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Altar Society, Homemakers Club, Coffee Club, Red hat Club and helped with many community projects. Deloris knew no stranger and always had a kind word and helped those in need. She loved watching football games, reading, dancing and many other hobbies.

She was preceded in death by her son Glenn in 1976; her parents; husband Lester Pianalto; sister Betty and brother Lowell.

Survivors include her son Roy Lee Harris and wife Jenn; three stepdaughters, Anita Squier, Diane Kostal and Teresa Clark; sisters, Meryl Hespin and Margie Aksamit; brother Bob Inderlied; five step-grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and many relatives and friends.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m., with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Atwood. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 23, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Atwood, with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atwood. &nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene Henry Baumfalk was born August 31, 1935 in Hitchcock County to Alvin and Hannah Pollmann Baumfalk and entered Heaven on August 21, 2024. Alvin passed away when Eugene was only eight years old. Hannah later remarried Harry Hein and two more brothers and a sister were added to the family.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene graduated High School from Culbertson and lived in the Culbertson and the McCook area his entire life. Eugene enlisted in the United States Army in March 1959 and was honorably discharged in July 1960. On November 21, 1964, Eugene married Cleta Riley Felker. Eugene became a father to Donald, Ray and Lori with this marriage and in 1971 Eugene and Cleta welcomed another son, Paul.

&nbsp; &nbsp; Eugene worked at the McCook Meat Packing Company for several years before going into business for himself laying carpet. Gene excelled at this trade and spent many years at it providing for his family. Eugene bowled on a bowling team for many years; 35 years of them with his son, Don. Bowling was one of the loves of his life along with fishing. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker and New York Yankee fan and loved to watch them on TV with Cleta. Eugene also loved animals, but the true loves of his life were his children and grandchildren. He spent many hours caring for his grandchildren. Eugene was a kind and loving man with a deep love for his Lord and Savior. He will be deeply missed by his family.

Eugene Henry Baumfalk (1935-2024)

Lifelong Wallace County resident Billy Eugene Hill, 85, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at his home in Sharon Springs, surrounded by family.

Billy was born in Wallace, KS on August 17, 1939 to Paul Abraham and Ethel Mae (David) Hill. He was one of four children. He attended school in Colby through the 8th grade. Before going into the United States Navy, Billy attended school in Little Field, TX to become a Barber. He served in the Navy from 1957 until 1960.

On June 15, 1957, Billy married Mary Eloise Bedford in Napa, CA. To this union, four children; Gary, Ronnie, Pam and Paulette were born.

During his lifetime Billy worked as a barber, farmer, and was owner operator of Hill Trash Service of Wallace County. Billy enjoyed golfing, hunting, and traveling to Arizona for the winter. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Billy was an active member of the Sharon Springs Wesleyan Church and went on many mission trips. Billy spent much of his life leading others to Christ.&nbsp;

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers; Jimmie, Bobby, Byron Dea Hill and two great grandsons Gunner Owen and Kyler Unruh.

He is survived by his wife Mary of the home in Sharon Springs, KS, his children; Gary (Delphine) Hill of Sharon Springs, KS, Ronnie (Theresa) Hill of Sharon Springs, KS, Pam (Kris) Anderson of Nashville, TN and Paulette (Steve) Unruh of Sharon Springs. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Billy will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 10:30 AM MT at the Sharon Springs Wesleyan Church with Pastor Cody Tupps officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at the Sharon Springs Wesleyan Church.

Goodland, KS resident and former Perham, Minnesota resident, ElVerna Doris “Sam” Carr-Teel, 81, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.

Sam was born on October 18, 1942 in Perham, MN to Herman and Edna (Steeke) Wanderi. She was one of 3 children. Sam attended school in New York Mills, MN, and graduated from New York Mills High School in 1960.

Sam had a love for life. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When her children and grandchildren were younger, she was known as mom and grammy to all family and friends. She would sit on her patio and watch the birds for hours.

While she had a gypsy soul, her home has always been the Colorado mountains. She had a passion for gardening and baking. She was always sharing her baking with loved ones and the community. During her many different stations with her first husband, she would always bake for the other servicemen.

She had a passion for the Lord and always shared it with her loved ones and community. She was often heard saying “God has a reason.” when encouraging her loved ones through tough times. Sam and her husband, Jerry would often be found reading scripture and praying together in the evenings.

On September 12, 2009, Sam married Jerry Glenn Teel in Colorado Springs. In 2022, they moved to Goodland to be closer to family. While living in Goodland, they were members of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents and her first husband Robert Carr.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Teel of the home in Goodland, children Simone Kern of Colorado Springs, CO, David (Theresa) Carr of Rogers, MN, Tara (Andrew Rippe) Carr of Colorado Springs, CO, Irene (Bart) Blackwelder of Hennessey, OK and Tiffany (Craig) Bernhardt of Sterling, Colorado. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; as well as 2 brothers; Richard (Sue) Wanderi and Gary Wanderi all of Perham, MN.

The Celebration of Life will be Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM MT at the picnic ramada in Chambers Park. Those in attendance will need to bring a lawn chair, and the family asks everyone to bring a snack to share.

A family celebration of life for Sam will be held at a later date at Sam and Jerry’s property in the mountains in Park County, Colorado.

Sandra Sue “Sandy” Tammen, 83, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Sandy was born July 13, 1941, in La Crosse, Kansas, the daughter of Henry and Margaret (Williams) Klaus. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1959 graduate of Bison Rural High School, Bison, Kansas, she was a beautician, homemaker and farm wife.

She was a current member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas, and a former member of the Rush County Fair Board, and Gamma Zeta Sorority. She was also a former member of Hopewell Neighbors. When Hopewell Neighbors disbanded, Sandy became a member of Prairie Pals.

Sandy enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and taking care of her flowers.

On October 13, 1959, she married Dale Tammen at the United Methodist Church, Bison, Kansas.

Survivors include: her husband, Dale Tammen, Rush Center, Kansas; one son, Kent Tammen (Mary Jo), Hays, Kansas; one daughter, Kayla Hardwick (Daryl), Hays, Kansas; six grandchildren, Ashley Perez (Tabre), Austin Tammen (Lindsey Morrissey), Tyler Hardwick, Samantha Shaffer (Phillip), Brandon Hardwick, and Courtney Carlino (Daniel); four great grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Billie Klaus, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Kyle Tammen; and one brother, Don Klaus.

Visitation will be Friday, August 23, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

Lavern J. “Augie” Augustine, died Monday, August 19, 2024 at HaysMed.

He was born January 23, 1942 in Hays, the son of Joseph and Cunnigunda (Korbe) Augustine. He graduated from Hays High School in 1960, and on August 10, 1963 he was united in marriage to Betty Schmidt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays. They celebrated 61 years of marriage. For 38 years, Augie worked as a meter tech for Midwest Energy. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, was a talented craftsman who built two homes for his family, and he loved restoring classic 50’s cars.

Survivors include his wife Betty of Hays, his son Lavern “Vern” Augustine and wife Therese of Bucyrus, his daughter, Tammy Anderson and husband Rich of Hays, one brother, Robert Augustine of Hays, a sister-in-law, Rosie Augustine of Hays, four grandchildren, Nicole Komaromi and husband John, John Augustine and wife Kirsten, Rebecca Cole and husband Garrett, and Raena Anderson, four great grandchildren, Stanley, Isabella, and Henry Komaromi, George Augustine, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Alfred, Marvin, Ralph, and Francis Augustine, and four sisters, Mary Ann Whitaker, Lucille Younger, Josephine Urban, and Norma Weigel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, August 26, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Doris Bernice Jones, 101, died on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

Doris was born on February 14, 1923, in Russell, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Olinda (Krug) Kilian. She grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1941. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Cecil P. Jones on October 04, 1943, in Russell, Kansas. From this union Doris and Cecil were blessed with two sons Doug and Roger. Doris worked as a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker as well as for the Russell County Treasurer and a waitress. She was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church and was active in many ladies’ groups and church activities. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards and watching professional basketball and University of Kansas basketball. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons Doug Jones and wife Penny of Ness City, Kansas, Roger Jones of Lincoln, Nebraska; brother Richard Kilian of Russell, Kansas; sisters Mary Parkhurst of Russell, Kansas and Karen Stafford of Scottsdale, Arizona; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Frank Kilian.

A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, August 26, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell, Kansas. Wilma Lee Pettijohn, 78, passed away Aug. 18, 2024, at her home in Great Bend. She was born June 22, 1946, to Dilton Cleo “Shorty” Myers and Leeoda Doughty Myers in Great Bend. Wilma married Carl Shryock in February 1963, and had three children; Paul Shryock, C.J. Shryock, and Shrya Shryock. They later divorced. She married Jim Pettijohn and added three more children; Judy Gorden, Josh Pettijohn, and Takowa (Pettijohn) Ramirez.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Wilma was a faithful member of First St. Church of God in Hoisington. She lived in Phoenix, Nashville, Hutchinson, but called Great Bend home. She worked at Fuller Brush, Dolly Madison, True Value, Smokey’s, Wichita Eagle for 29 years and Great Bend Tribune. She loved to ride her motorcycle, crochet, dancing, and creating flower arrangements.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Survivors include her sons, C.J. Betty Jane Nutter, 89, died Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Sheridan County Long Term Care, in Hoxie Kansas. 

She was born on September 23, 1934, in Stark County, ND, to Henry and Ruth (Travers) Scheerer. She enjoyed collecting antiques, dairy cows, fishing, watching her westerns, putting together puzzles and playing Skip-Bo and Bingo. Betty was quick to make friends and liked meeting new people. She loved spending time with family and new friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Burt Nutter; three brothers; two sisters and great-granddaughter Kalie Boyer.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Green; Son, Todd (Jenelle) Cimental; two sons; grandchildren, Jason Boyer and Misty Ary; great granddaughters, Kori Ary, Katelyn Hebard, Miley Boyer and Haylee Boyer; great-great granddaughter Lilah Ary; and brother Gary Scheerer.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Marvia Ann Miller, 77, of Colby, died Friday, August 16, 2024. She was born on March 2, 1947, in Ransom, KS, to Reuben and Rose (Bruntz) Gumescheimer. Marvia went to High Point Center, a one room schoolhouse, and then Bazine High School, where she was the Valedictorian. She continued her education at Friends Bible College, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies.

Marvia married Fred Miller on June 6, 1970, in Bazine, KS. They owned With Love Miller’s Photography for 35 years. Marvia was committed to being God’s servant. She made it a priority to be the “Gospel in Shoes” in Ecuador, P.N.G. and in Colby. Finally, she and Fred were called to be Pastors to Pastors in small towns and rural communities across three states, for over ten years.

Marvia was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kristin Rathbun and brother James Gumescheimer.

She is survived by her husband Fred; son Justin (Jessica) Miller, of Berryton, KS; sister Lois (Kirk) Miller, of La Crosse, KS; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was born on April 25, 1953 in Lexington, NE the daughter of Fred and Mabel Jessie (Sheldon) Newton.

Donna was united in marriage to Alfred E. Farr on March 1, 1981 in McCook, NE. &nbsp;He survives.

Other survivors include her son Dustin of Plattsburg, MO; sister Lois Runion of Phillipsburg; and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Donna G. Farr

William Royce Levin, oldest son of William H. and Erna (nee Engelke) Levin was born on the family farm in Swan Township, Smith County, on June 14, 1930 and died at Smith Center Health and Rehab on August 18, 2024. He was baptized at home on June 15, 1930 and confirmed at Germantown Lutheran Church on July 5, 1942.

His elementary education was at the Germantown country school and he graduated from the Kensington High School with the class of 1947.

He served with the United States Army with tours of duty in Austria and Italy. Royce and his family resided on the family farm until his retirement from farming in 2018. &nbsp;On May 29, 1952 he united in marriage to Donna Beth Smith and born to this union were daughters Teresa and Lisa and a stillborn son, Kurt. His love for farming continued until he could no longer endure the heavy work and long hours it required. He became a farm toy collector and a builder of farm machine models, along with setting up a model railroad for relaxing, leisure time. Royce was a life time member of First St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington. &nbsp;Survivors are: his wife, his daughters, grandsons Travis, Keith and Paul, great grandsons Tristin and Koen, nieces, nephews and grandnephews along with great-grandnieces. &nbsp;Preceding him in death is a brother, son-in-law and niece.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the First St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Germantown Cemetery, Smith Co. with Military Honors by the Kensington American Legion.

The casket will be closed. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Wed. &amp; 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:00 Thursday evening.

Royce and his family resided on the family farm until his retirement from farming in 2018. &nbsp;On May 29, 1952 he united in marriage to Donna Beth Smith and born to this union were daughters Teresa and Lisa and a stillborn son, Kurt. His love for farming continued until he could no longer endure the heavy work and long hours it required. He became a farm toy collector and a builder of farm machine models, along with setting up a model railroad for relaxing, leisure time. Royce was a life time member of First St. John Lutheran Church in Kensington. &nbsp;Survivors are: his wife, his daughters, grandsons Travis, Keith and Paul, great grandsons Tristin and Koen, nieces, nephews and grandnephews along with great-grandnieces. &nbsp;Preceding him in death is a brother, son-in-law and niece.Funeral services will be held Friday, August 23 at 10:30 a.m. in the First St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Hutson officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Germantown Cemetery, Smith Co. with Military Honors by the Kensington American Legion.The casket will be closed. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 Wed. &amp; 9:00 to 9:00 Thursday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7:00 Thursday evening.Memorial contributions may be made to the Church, Germantown Cemetery or the Kensington Fire Dept.Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Stanley Glaum, 84, passed away at home in Manhattan, KS on August 17, 2024.

Stanley Allan Glaum was born at home in Alma, NE on October 7, 1939 as the only son of Allan Martin and Leita Irene (Lee) Glaum. They moved to Hastings, NE in 1941; when Allan was deployed to Europe with the US Army Corps of Engineers, Leita and Stanley moved to Phillipsburg, KS where Allan joined them after returning in 1946. He was baptized at the First Christian Church in Phillipsburg. Stanley attended school in Phillipsburg, graduating from Phillipsburg High School on May 23, 1958.

Stan met Letha Mae Hollingshead while they were attending Phillipsburg HS. Even though Stan was a few years older than Letha, they continued dating until she graduated, and were often accompanied by Letha’s younger sisters Edith and Merena. Stan and Letha were united in Holy Matrimony on June 25, 1961 at the First Presbyterian Church in Phillipsburg, KS. They lived in Phillipsburg after marriage and Stan worked as an electrician for the Bear Brand Roofing Company. Their sons Terry and Tony were born during this time.

Stan and Letha moved their family to Manhattan, KS where Stan attended Kansas State University. He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Agronomy. They added another son Tyler to their family during this period. After graduation, Stan accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture as a soil scientist with the Soil Conservation Service. Except for a few years working as a bank officer in Pretty Prairie, KS, Stan worked for the Soil Conservation Service until retirement in 1999. He was stationed in Cimarron, Pretty Prairie, WaKeeney, Washington, Topeka, and Salina. Following retirement, Stan and Letha once again made their home in Manhattan, KS at University Park. Stan took a position with Farmers Mutual Hail Company as a crop insurance adjustor for several years.

Stan was always very active in the community and very generous with his time and talents. During their time in Phillipsburg, he was a member of the Odd Fellow’s Lodge. While in Pretty Prairie, he served as a city clerk and as the President of the Lion’s Club. Stan liked to spend time with his sons and was a Webelo Troop Leader. In WaKeeney, he became the Summer Archery Program Leader for the Parks and Recreation Department. After retirement and their move to Manhattan, Stan continued to be very involved. He served on the Sherman Township Board, the University Park Board, and the Riley County Rural Water District. He was a Trustee for the Riley Presbyterian Church. Stan also served as a Range Safety Officer for the Fancy Creek Shooting Range in Randolph, KS.

Stan made certain his sons were accomplished and had adventurous spirits. All the boys played band instruments, piano, and were active in music in high school, college, and beyond. Stan taught them how to snow ski and swim, and spent time with them riding motorcycles, hunting, and fishing. Stan studied for and obtained his Civil Air Patrol pilot’s license in 1955 and later his private pilot license at Phillipsburg. He developed an interest in forging and built a metal shop at home where he made many knives and letter-openers; he was active with the Blacksmith Associations in Nebraska and Missouri. Stan really enjoyed his time spent at the Fancy Creek Shooting Range in Randolph, KS and made many friends there. He liked the shooting competitions which gave him an opportunity to fine-tune his reloading skills. Stan proudly taught his grandchildren how to handle guns safely and shoot accurately.

Stan loved to explore, so he and Letha travelled widely. Besides visiting many states and relatives in the US, they made a trip-of-a-lifetime to Hawaii. They also travelled to Europe to visit Terry while he was stationed at Ramstein, Germany; while there they explored Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, England, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Stan was a blessing to all who knew him, but his greatest legacy is his family who love and adore him. He was proceeded in death by his parents, and by brothers-in-law Raymond Schick of Densmore, KS and David Rogers of Nixa, MO.

Many family members remain to miss Stan. Letha is at their home in Manhattan, KS. Son Terry, wife Heike, and grand-daughter Kelly reside in Ehweiler, Germany; Terry’s son Justin lives in Ohio with his wife and 2 daughters, daughter Ashley is in Viginia with her 2 daughters, and step-son Marco Jung lives in Germany. Son Tony and wife Deb reside in Linwood, KS; their daughter Jennifer (Joseph) Clark and son Jacob are all living in Kansas. Son Tyler and wife Julie reside in Bettendorf, IA; their son Trevor lives in Indiana and son Jonathan is in Virginia. Also remaining are sisters-in-law Edith Schick of Logan, KS and Merena Rogers (Ron) Poage of Nixa, MO.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel with Ron Poage &amp; Pastor Harlan Nonhof officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in care of the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel in Phillipsburg, KS; the family intends them to go to the Fancy Creek Shooting Range where he was a lifetime member to promote youth and gun safety.

Jerry Ray Praytor, 74, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in Newton, Kansas, with his family at his side.&nbsp;

Jerry was born on November 11, 1949, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Doil M. and Loretta E. (Lindell) Praytor.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell, Kansas, and graduated from Russell High School in the class of 1967.&nbsp; Jerry attended Hutchinson Community College and Pittsburg State University before being drafted into the United States Army. While he was stationed in Aberdeen, Maryland, he met Donna June Harvey.&nbsp; They fell in love and were united in marriage on July 30, 1971. After serving 8 years in the military, he returned to Russell to work for his dad’s pipeline business, Praytor Construction.&nbsp; He and his brother continued with the family business for many years.&nbsp; After relocating to Inman, Jerry started a new venture, JP Pipeline Construction, Inc.&nbsp; He was a longtime member of the V.F.W. Post #6240 and American Legion Post #99 both in Russell.&nbsp; He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the countless hours spent at roping events with his boys.&nbsp; Jerry loved nothing more than to “clown around” with his grandkids.

Surviving family include his wife Donna June Harvey Praytor of Hutchinson, Kansas; sons Jeremy Praytor and wife Sara of Salina, Kansas, and Jason Praytor of Wichita, Kansas; brother Gary Praytor of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Britton Praytor and Addison Praytor; great-grandson Riggins Collett.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.

Hanston – Dean Alan Hoagland, 75, passed away August 18, 2024 at his home in Hanston.

He was born February 17, 1949 in Broken Bow, NE, the son of Darrell Wayne and Elsie Marie Wilson Hoagland. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer and laborer.

He was a member of the Hanston United Methodist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. &nbsp;He served in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972.

On August 28, 1985 he married Carolyn June Woodring in Wilroads Gardens, KS. &nbsp;She survives.

Other survivors include: two stepdaughters, Diana (David) Myers, Dodge City and JoAnna Hamil, Cherokee, OK; two brothers, Dale (Linda) Hoagland, Fort Morgan, CO and Don Hoagland, Brighton, CO; four grandchildren, Derek, Devin, Lewis, Robert, and numerous great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Thomas Coulter; two grandsons, Justin and David and a granddaughter, Summer.

Memorial graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2024 at Hanston Cemetery, Hanston with Harmon Bliss presiding. &nbsp;Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 2024 at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. &nbsp;Inurnment will be at the Hanston Cemetery with military honors.

Jacob R. Lang, 40, of Wichita KS, passed away Thursday August 15, 2024 surrounded by loving family members. He was born August 13, 1984 in Wichita Ks. The son of Marissa Lang (Beilman) and Alan Lang.&nbsp;

Jacob, also known as Jake, was an avid sports lover. He played football 4th grade through high school. &nbsp;He graduated from Wichita Heights High School in 2003. &nbsp;He loved his Detroit Lions and Kansas City Royals. He made everyone laugh and his smile was contagious. He worked various jobs and made friends wherever he went. He always was willing to help anyone and had a heart of Gold.&nbsp;

Jacob was a loving father to 3 children. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his beloved dog Maggie. He is survived by his parents, his brother Chris Lang and wife Jessica. His sister Emily Viramontez (Lang) and brother in law Tyler. &nbsp;His 3 children, Kamryn, Kailey, and William. He is also survived by &nbsp;his 3 nieces, Cheyenne, Reagan and Adelyn and his nephew Cru, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp;

Funeral services, a celebration of life, will be held Saturday August 24, 2024 at 1:00pm at Kechi cemetery in Kechi Kansas. Roselin Pfeifer, 76, Hays, died Sunday, August 18, 2024 at her home.

She was born January 11, 1948 in Hays, the daughter of John and Cecilia (Kohl) Jacques. In 1966, she graduated from Ellis High School, and on November 22, 1969, she was united in marriage to Alan Robert Pfeifer in Ellis. They celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage. For over 25 years, Roselin sold home decor for Home Interior. She earned her Associates Degree in occupational therapy from Barton County Community College in 2000, then worked as an occupational therapist at Via Christi Village and the Good Samaritan Society. She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, and volunteered with Catholic Charities and the HaysMed Auxiliary. Roselin was a talented seamstress, and she enjoyed making crafts of all kinds and attending craft fairs. She had a generous heart and continually donated handmade items to charities and the hospital for fundraising events. Whether shopping or treasure hunting at thrift stores, Roselin was always thinking of others and looking for gifts to give to those she loved.

Survivors include her husband Alan of Hays, her sons, Aric Pfeifer and Adam and Mollie Pfeifer, all of Lenexa, her brother, Robert A. Jacques and wife Shirley of Hays, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Pfeifer of Hays, her granddaughter, Raegan Pfeifer, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Jacques, Jr., a niece, Lindsey Jacques, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert A. and Caroline Pfeifer, and a sister-in-law, Clare Lou Pfeifer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30 pm, all on Wednesday at the funeral home.  </figure>Roselin Pfeifer, 76, Hays, died Sunday, August 18, 2024 at her home.She was born January 11, 1948 in Hays, the daughter of John and Cecilia (Kohl) Jacques. In 1966, she graduated from Ellis High School, and on November 22, 1969, she was united in marriage to Alan Robert Pfeifer in Ellis. They celebrated nearly 55 years of marriage. For over 25 years, Roselin sold home decor for Home Interior. She earned her Associates Degree in occupational therapy from Barton County Community College in 2000, then worked as an occupational therapist at Via Christi Village and the Good Samaritan Society. She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254, and volunteered with Catholic Charities and the HaysMed Auxiliary. Roselin was a talented seamstress, and she enjoyed making crafts of all kinds and attending craft fairs. She had a generous heart and continually donated handmade items to charities and the hospital for fundraising events. Whether shopping or treasure hunting at thrift stores, Roselin was always thinking of others and looking for gifts to give to those she loved.Survivors include her husband Alan of Hays, her sons, Aric Pfeifer and Adam and Mollie Pfeifer, all of Lenexa, her brother, Robert A. Jacques and wife Shirley of Hays, a sister-in-law, Carolyn Pfeifer of Hays, her granddaughter, Raegan Pfeifer, and numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Jacques, Jr., a niece, Lindsey Jacques, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert A. and Caroline Pfeifer, and a sister-in-law, Clare Lou Pfeifer.Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Wednesday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Thursday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 5:30 pm followed by a vigil service at 6:30 pm, all on Wednesday at the funeral home. Justin Joseph Basgall age 42, of Hays, Kansas passed away at his home on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

He was born June 21, 1982, in Hays, Kansas to Chad W. Basgall and Mary Loree Acheson.

He married Nicolene (VanSittert) and they later separated.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; He was working for Ellis County as a Noxious Weed Agent for the last two years, and he spent six years in Public Works for the City of Rose Hill, and City of Augusta, Kansas.&nbsp; He grew up in Rose Hill, was a graduate of Rose Hill High School, and later moved to Hays.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Justin enjoyed the Raiders, hunting, country cruise, Lake Wilson, fishing and boating, geology, sunsets, fire pits, BBQ and red beer.&nbsp; 

He loved hanging out with his friends, his niece and nephew, and karaoking family traditions.

Justin Joseph Basgall

Steven Ray Basgall was born on May 18, 1955, in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado to Hubert and Vonna Basgall. He died August 17th at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas at the age of 69.

He was raised in Sharon Springs, Kansas along with 4 brothers and 3 sisters.

Steve attended Wallace County Schools K-12. He graduated from Fort Hays State University. During his college years, he began working for UPS. He continued his career with UPS for 40 years.

Steve enjoyed life. He especially enjoyed his Harleys and motorcycle trips with his brother’s motorcycle club. He also found joy in reading, hunting, fishing, scuba diving, sailing, playing disc golf, spending time playing his guitars, and vacationing at the beach. He loved traveling to new places and meeting new people. He was adept at rebuilding motorcycles and working on everything. He could fix most of the things that Barbara-Jean and Ashton could break. Spending time with family and friends was a special time for Steve. He had a soft spot for all his nieces and nephews and all children. He had a servant’s heart. He was always there to help others and treated everyone with kindness. Steve had an unwavering trust in God.

He is preceded in death by his son, Jarett Ray Basgall, his father, Hubert Basgall, and brother, Randy Basgall.

He is survived by mother, Vonna Basgall, Sharon Springs, Ks., significant other, Barbara-Jean Ottley and her daughter, Ashton Ottley, Hays, Ks., siblings, Sherry Frasier and Curt, Beloit, Ks., Barry Basgall and Cheryl, Broken Arrow, Ok., Marla Turner and John, Jacksonville, Fl., Janet Ruder and Vincent, Kemah, Tx., Don Basgall and JoAnna, Sharon Springs, Ks., and Kent Basgall and Susan, Shawnee, Ks.  <li>Robert Eugene Smith (Bob) of Mesa, Arizona went peacefully to his heavenly home on August 16th, 2024, at the age of 86.&nbsp; He was born on March 20, 1938, in Hays, Kansas to parents Glenn R and Jeanette Smith.&nbsp; Bob grew up in Smith County and graduated from Smith Center High School in 1957, where he was active for many years in track and field.&nbsp; On June 13, 1959, he married Bethie Watts in Kensington, Kansas, they were blessed with three sons David, Donald and Dennis.&nbsp; Years later Kimberly joined the family. </li><li>Bob had many occupations throughout his life.&nbsp; Early years at Mini Max Warehouse, Edell Creamery and Rainbow Bread.&nbsp; In 1968 Bob and Bethie moved their family to Lebanon, Kansas and purchased Bob’ Market.&nbsp; In 1983 they moved back to Smith Center where Smith Trucking was formed, and he retired in 2004.&nbsp;Bob was an active member of the Army National Guard, Smith Center, Kansas, discharged in 1958.&nbsp;While in Lebanon, Bob was very active with Boy Scouts, 4-H, City Council, Fire Department and school activities. Carol Ann Romme, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, peacefully passed&nbsp;away on August 14, 2024, at the age of 85, in Lenexa, Kansas. Carol Ann Schmeidler was&nbsp;born on June 11, 1939, to William and Rose (Wolf) Schmeidler in Hays, Kansas. She&nbsp;graduated from Girls’ Catholic High School in 1957 and married the love of her life, Melvin&nbsp;E. Romme, on May 14, 1960, in Hays, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. They were married&nbsp;more than 64 years and were blessed with three children, Dale, Sandra and Tamara.

Following high school, Carol enjoyed a 44-year career with Emprise Bank, where she served&nbsp;as head teller and Assistant Vice President. Known affectionately as “Pretty Carol Romme”&nbsp;in early radio commercials, she became a trusted confidant in the community, always&nbsp;o\ering the utmost professionalism to her loyal customers.

Carol lived in Hays for most of her life, taking care of her elderly parents, who resided next&nbsp;door. After retirement, she moved to Overland Park, Kansas, to be closer to her children&nbsp;and grandchildren.

Carol’s life was a testament to dedication and selfless love. As a devoted mother to her&nbsp;children, she nurtured and guided her family with grace and wisdom, leaving a legacy that&nbsp;will resonate through generations. Her joy in life was rooted in the love she shared with Mel.&nbsp; Together, they formed an inseparable bond, not just as partners in life but as best friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;Whether it was meeting for lunch during their workday or preparing family dinners together,&nbsp;Carol and Mel were an indivisible team, embodying a love that inspired everyone who knew&nbsp;them.

Carol’s love and passion always remained on her family, especially her seven&nbsp;grandchildren. Carol and Mel were affectionately known to their grandchildren as “Nanny”&nbsp;and “Papa.” She selflessly gave up her time to care for all her grandchildren, often at a&nbsp;moment’s notice. She was a fixture at school and sports activities. Carol enjoyed playing&nbsp;cards and other games with her family as well as being a solitaire and bingo enthusiast. Her&nbsp;kindness, generosity, and infectious spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege&nbsp;of knowing her. Carol’s home was always filled with the warmth of delicious home-cooked&nbsp;meals, the sound of her unique laughter, and the comfort of her unwavering Catholic faith&nbsp;and values.

She leaves behind her devoted husband, Mel; her three children, Dale Romme (Catherine),&nbsp;Sandy Rost (John), and Tammy Ford (Scott); her cherished sister, Jeanette (Schmeidler)&nbsp;Flax; and her seven treasured grandchildren,&nbsp; Elizabeth Romme Hyland (Tanner), Matthew&nbsp;Romme, Caroline Romme, Joseph Rost, William Rost, Thomas Ford, and Charles Ford. She&nbsp;also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly during her&nbsp;lifetime.
