With great sorrow the family of Lowell L. Rudolph, age 93, announce his passing from life on August 3, 2024 at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Lowell was born on January 5, 1931 to Lloyd C. and Estella B (Hollister) Rudolph in Scott City, Kansas. He was the last surviving child of his parents.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lowell started his school years in a one room school house, known as District 5-The Rudolph School, located on his parents’ property. He continued his education at Scott Community High School, graduating with the class of 1948.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lowell started working with his father and brothers on the family farm during his teenage years. In 1953 he joined the US Army, serving his country at Fort Whittier, Alaska during the Korean War. Lowell was released from active service in 1954 and he continued to serve in the US Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on January 6, 1961.

&nbsp;After his active service Lowell returned to Kansas to join his father and brothers on the family farm. Eventually his brothers chose to go on to different professions. Upon his father’s passing, Lowell purchased his sibling’s share of the farm and continued to raise crops and cattle until he began transitioning into retirement in 1999. He was a lifelong farmer rancher.

&nbsp;Lowell married Patricia L. Hollingsworth on March 12, 1955. They had two daughters Kathleen A (Tom) Moore and LuAnn E. (Jon) Buehler. He is also survived by five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.

&nbsp;Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Estella Rudolph, a brother who died at birth, sisters Marguerite (Edgar) Rose, Florence (Don) Japhet, Joyce (died in infancy), brothers John, Gail (Ona) Rudolph. His wife, Patricia and one daughter, Kathleen Moore.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Patricia taught their daughters the art of keeping house and home, but Lowell taught them about care of horses and cattle, basic mechanics and the value of hard work. They drove tractors doing field work, trucks during harvest and helped with the cattle. Their daughters were well rounded women.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Family was very important to both Lowell and Patricia. Not only did many of the grandchildren learn to work hard from Grandpa, there were many nephews that would come to work on the farm in the summers. There was much they learned working with Uncle Lowell. He was a quiet calm instructor. He would teach them what hard work was and how to be a good employee wherever they worked. He also taught them they could have fun yet get work done.&nbsp;

&nbsp;There were many, many family holidays and summer gathering hosted by Lowell and Pat at both the farm and later at their home in Scott City. They truly enjoyed having their family and extended family around them. Everyone would feel welcome in their home.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lowell had an ornery sense of humor. He would tease his daughters, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to the point they would believe the stories he told them. Yet everyone of them knew he was always there for them if he was needed. They could ask him for advice, help or just an ear to listen. They were important to him and he was important to them.&nbsp;

Lowell L. Rudolph

Bertus Duane Huiting (known as “Dink”), a retired farmer from Downs, KS, passed away on August 3rd, 2024, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne, KS at the age of 99.

He was born on the family farm in Jewell County, KS, on July 18th, 1925, to Frederick and Muriel Huiting. He was the third child of four children, Bryson, Dale, Duane &amp; Esther. In 1927, the family moved to the current farm northwest of Downs. Duane attended Fairview District 58 School and then graduated from Downs High School in 1943, where he played football and basketball and became an FFA State Farmer. In football, that’s where he got the nickname “Dink” and has stayed with him ever since. At a very young age, Duane was baptized in the Christian Church.

A few years after high school, Duane developed “Combine Fever” after joining a custom harvest crew. Duane helped his dad on the farm, and he also worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, helped build the Kirwin Dam and a welder at Richardson Manufacturing. But the custom harvesting got in his blood. Duane met his future wife, Juanita Goheen at a local dance, they dated for a while, then married on September 24, 1950, in Downs. To this union six children were born, Shirley, Jim, Tava, Stanley, Nancy &amp; Brian. The new couple farmed, raised sheep and cattle and went custom harvesting.

In 1962, Duane became a co-owner of the Huiting and Cary Fertilizer and Elevator with Howard Cary. After years in the business, they sold out. Duane continued to farm and custom harvest until retiring in 1979. His middle son, Stanley, continued the custom harvest. In the early 1970’s, Duane helped Melton Motors in Belleville bring back new trucks from Detroit. In the late 1970’s, Duane was contacted by the Massey Ferguson Company to come to Florida and teach and train the people on the sugar cane machines. So, Duane and Juanita and their two younger children went to Florida for the winters to work in the sugar cane fields. In 1982, the marriage ended. Duane continued to farm, and he started selling Cargill seeds, then Myogen seeds until 2009, he sold certified and registered wheat as well.

In 1994, Duane married Verna Preuss in Stuttgart, KS and they continued to farm, raise cattle and sell seed between the two farms. He retired from farming in 2011. During this time, Duane and Verna enjoyed going to polka dances. Verna, having health problems and not being able to help much, her family took care of her, and Duane moved into Parkview Care Center in Osborne in February of 2021 and the phonelines were always hot.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bryson &amp; Dale, sister Esther, daughter Shirley, son Jim, two grandchildren Jason and Jaime, first wife Juanita, current wife Verna in 2023 and son-in-law Wayne.

He is survived by his children, daughters Tave &amp; Nancy (Dave), sons Stanley &amp; Brian (Minda), grandchildren Jared (MaKenzie), Lexis, Rocky and three great grandchildren Baylee, Aubree &amp; Bentlee, step children Darrell (Sandra), Velma (Dave) &amp; Eldon (Sandy), and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Patricia Ann Proksch, 87, died August 2, 2024, at Credo Senior Living of Hoisington, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born April 29, 1937, the daughter of Gus and Dale (Depiesse) Schremmer. &nbsp;Pat graduated from Hoisington High School in 1955.&nbsp;

On April 24, 1957, she married Richard J. Proksch in Hoisington, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2019.

Pat and Richard moved to Denver Colorado in 1961, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Target Dept. Store for 33 years. While in Denver they enjoyed square dancing and were part of a bowling league. In 2000, Richard and Pat moved back to Hoisington where she was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting, and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch watching the birds and squirrels. She loved her grandchildren and when they visited, she made sure to make special care packages for each of them for the trip home.

Survivors include: two sons, Brad Proksch and wife Lisa of Hudson, Colorado and Brent Proksch and wife Anne of Montgomery, Texas; brothers, Bill Schremmer, Gene Schremmer and wife Cheryl, and Ron Schremmer and wife Betty, all of Hoisington; and three grandchildren, Shannon Proksch and husband Byron Pillow, Brian Proksch and wife Katie, and Austin Proksch; and a great granddaughter, Amelia Rose Proksch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Brian R. Proksch, brothers, Earl and Jim Schremmer, and sisters, Karen Bishop and Lois Klug.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024, with family to greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rosary and Vigil Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. all at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, Kansas, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.&nbsp;

Joan Marie VanDegrift, 89, passed away on August 3, 2024, at her home in Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on May 20, 1935, in Ransom, Kansas, the daughter of John and Anna Wasinger.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, August 8, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. &nbsp;Parish Vigil will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home beginning with a rosary at 6:30. Genita was born “12-21-22”. &nbsp;This was always her response whenever a doctor or nurse asked her birth date. &nbsp;

She was the only daughter of Fred and Florence Foos Erni as her younger sister died at birth. &nbsp;She was born on the family farm in Rush County just north of Bison. &nbsp;

Her early years found her moving numerous times as her father tried to find work to support his family. &nbsp;She lived in Hoisington, Bison, Lacrosse, Otis and Hutchinson before graduating from high school in Abilene where she met her future husband, Jesse. While &nbsp;Jesse served in World War II, Genita and her parents moved to Parsons, KS, where she worked in the Armory making artillery shells for the Arsenal of Democracy.

After the war, Genita and Jesse were married near Parsons on September 13, 1945. &nbsp;Jesse took a job with Western Union which brought more moves for Genita. &nbsp;They lived in Garden City, Scott City and Independence in Kansas, Excelsior Springs, Booneville and Marshall in Missouri and even Rockford, Colorado.

Their daughter, Rosemary, was born in 1946, in Independence, Kansas. &nbsp;In 1950 the family ended up in Green River, Wyoming, with Jesse’s Army Reserve unit before Jesse left for Korea. Genita and Rosemary then moved to Kansas City, where her parents were residing at the time.

Jesse returned in 1953 and they bought a house in Kansas City. &nbsp;Both Jesse and Genita worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. &nbsp;In 1957, their son, Richard, was born. &nbsp;Genita was always active staying involved with community events as well as with the kids’ school activities. &nbsp;She was an active PTA member at both Franklin Elementary and Argentine High School even serving a term as president at Franklin. &nbsp;&nbsp;

In 1976 Genita and Jesse moved to Otis. &nbsp;This was so Genita could be near her parents who had already moved back to their hometown after their retirement. &nbsp;While in Otis, Genita made numerous friends with whom she enjoyed quilting, taking bus trips, and eating at local diners as well as supporting community events such as high school plays, events at Cougar Rec, Old Iron Days, Rush County Fairs and church auctions. &nbsp;These wonderful friends were her support group and the main reason she was able to stay in her beloved Otis until health concerns forced her to move.

In March of 2019 Genita moved to Shawnee Hills Senior Living in Shawnee, Kansas, and in November of 2020 she moved into the Fontana House of Care Haven Homes in Overland Park, Kansas.

Genita was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church. &nbsp;She was also a member of Eastern Star, VFW Auxiliary, Happy Stitchers Quilting Group and the Otis Pool!&nbsp;

Through all her life, her faith in God and her love for her family and friends always came first. &nbsp;None of us will ever forget “Gommie.”

Genita was preceded in death by her parents, baby sister, beloved husband, Jesse, and favorite son-in-law Andy Stewart. &nbsp;She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Stewart of Perrysburg, OH, and son Richard (Kay) Wood of Merriam, KS. &nbsp;She also leaves her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: James Stewart of Perrysburg, OH; John (Jodi) Stewart, Samantha, John and Abigail of Pemberville, OH; Jennifer Rollo and fiancé RJ Rajner, Madelynn (Trevor) Hoffman and Zoey of Perrysburg/Toledo, OH; &nbsp;Russell (Michelle) Wood, Jesse and Conner of Shawnee, KS; &nbsp;Jody (Tim) Beckham, Kaleb, Dodger and Eliana of Otis/Great Bend, KS.

Our family wishes to thank the staff at Shawnee Hills Senior Living for making Genita’s transition to Kansas City easier for her. &nbsp;We also want to thank the amazing staff of Care Haven Homes for her excellent care and also Ascend Hospice for their help and guidance.

 </figure>Genita was born “12-21-22”. &nbsp;This was always her response whenever a doctor or nurse asked her birth date. &nbsp;She was the only daughter of Fred and Florence Foos Erni as her younger sister died at birth. &nbsp;She was born on the family farm in Rush County just north of Bison. &nbsp;Her early years found her moving numerous times as her father tried to find work to support his family. &nbsp;She lived in Hoisington, Bison, Lacrosse, Otis and Hutchinson before graduating from high school in Abilene where she met her future husband, Jesse. While &nbsp;Jesse served in World War II, Genita and her parents moved to Parsons, KS, where she worked in the Armory making artillery shells for the Arsenal of Democracy.After the war, Genita and Jesse were married near Parsons on September 13, 1945. &nbsp;Jesse took a job with Western Union which brought more moves for Genita. &nbsp;They lived in Garden City, Scott City and Independence in Kansas, Excelsior Springs, Booneville and Marshall in Missouri and even Rockford, Colorado.Their daughter, Rosemary, was born in 1946, in Independence, Kansas. &nbsp;In 1950 the family ended up in Green River, Wyoming, with Jesse’s Army Reserve unit before Jesse left for Korea. Genita Rose Erni Wood

Robert Clayton Karrick was born on April 4th, 1952 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS. He was the son of Robert L. and Dorothy M. (Anderson) Karrick. He attended Wichita North High School and entered the work force soon after. Robert “Bob” worked for Lamar Candy and Tobacco Company for a few years and that is where he gained his name “The Candyman”. Bob found his way to the Wichita Eagle where he worked for 20+ years and eventually retired. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being the life of the party.

He is survived by his son, Ryan and wife, Shannon, of Clearwater (daughters Katheryan, Jocelyn, Adelyan); and stepson, Shane Frasier and wife, Hannah, of Wichita; and son, Lance and wife, Annie, of Portis ( sons Waylan and Newlee). Bob is also survived by sisters Bonnie Mosher of Wichita and Debbie Thompson of Wichita and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Vickie Lynn Carrell.

The family has would like to encourage anyone who would like to bring a motorcycle to the Portis City Park at 10:30AM for a procession out to the cemetery for the graveside.

Linda Sue Stevenson, 80, passed away peacefully July 28, 2024, at Ness County Long Term Care in Ness City, Kansas. She was born October 26, 1943, to Leland and Elma (Mai) Steinert.&nbsp;

Linda graduated high school and obtained her Certified Nurses Aide certificate. She made a lifetime career working for Central Kansas Medical Center as a CNA and Activities Director until her retirement in the early 90s. Linda was of the Lutheran faith. She was a homemaker. She loved to create beauty with cross stitching and knitting. Family could find her watching her favorite, old westerns. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan. Linda was proud of her vast array of music collections from swing bands to classic country artists on vinyl, 8-track, and cassettes that she enjoyed listening to. Linda spent her days in long term care enjoying playing pitch and bingo with her friends. The highlight of her day was the grandkids came out to visit her.&nbsp;

Survivors include Daughter; Kathleen Stevenson (husband, Billy Davis) of Kansas City. Grandchildren; Michael Ellis (wife Jenna) of Wilson Kan., Levi Ellis (wife, Amanda) of Holyrood Kan., Julie Ellis (fiancé Nicke Mettner) of Salina, Kan., Cody Davis of Kansas City, Hunter Davis of Kansas City, Son; John Stevenson (wife, Tammy) of Great Bend, Grand Children; Tasha Stevenson of Ness City Kan., Codie Stevenson of Great Bend Kan., Kayci Stevenson (Fiancé Austin Blea) Of Great Bend, Kayelan Wheeler (Curtis Rosas) of Great Bend, Kan., and Justen Pedigo (Taja) Of Great Bend, Kan.; 17 great grandchildren and many others who Linda adopted as grandchildren over the years. He was born on January 5, 1957, in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas to Kenneth &amp; Juanita Heaton Harper. He was a member of the community for the past 20 years. Ray was a member of St. Joseph Church in Tribune, Kansas, Knights of Columbus, ABATE 13, and the Tri-State Motorcycle Coalition.&nbsp;

On August 9, 2003, Raymond married Laurie Baalman in Oakley, Kansas. She survives.

Raymond is survived by his wife, children Laura &amp; Todd Darden of Georgia, Erica Johnson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Derrick &amp; Candice Harper of Carl Junction, Missouri, Annie &amp; Clinton Miller of Miami, Oklahoma, Heather Harper of Liberal, Kansas, sister Phylis &amp; Cecil Combs of Fort Scott, Kansas, and ten grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by His parents, one brother Kenneth Gale, and one granddaughter Elise Scott.

A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. (MTN) at St. Joseph Church in Tribune, Kansas with Father Bernard Felix presiding.

She was born on November 11, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Kansas to Loren &amp; Hazel Wilson Armstrong. Her life brought her from Kansas to California and back to Kansas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leoti, Kansas. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, the Rebekah Lodge of Leoti, Kansas, and the Road Runner Motorcycle Club.&nbsp;

On January 17, 1951, Betty married William Dean Yotter in Sharon Springs, Kansas. He passed away on July 22, 2003, in Leoti, Kansas.

Betty is survived by her two grandchildren Matthew &amp; Chanelle Martin of Leoti, Kansas, Mindy &amp; Darold Harrison of Deerfield, Kansas, six great-grandchildren Casey Harrison of Satanta, Kansas, Jason Harrison of Deerfield, Kansas, Hannah &amp; Andrew Rauch of Tribune, Kansas, Sarah Martin &amp; Isaiah Kiesel of Newton, Kansas, Micah Martin &amp; Bonnie Thornburg of Leoti, Kansas, Avah Martin of Leoti, Kansas, three great-great-grandchildren Azariah Kiesel of Newton, Kansas, Benjamyn Rauch of Tribune, Kansas, and Malcolm Martin of Leoti, Kansas.

Francis J. “Frank” Degenhardt, 87, Retired Landscape Manager, died Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Visitation will be at 10:00 am, Mass at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Branson, MO.

Preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Alice Degenhardt; sisters, Rosie, Ellie, and Bernita; brother, Romauld.

Our dad was born and raised around Loretta, Kansas. Loretta consisted of a catholic church, baseball diamond, and a small grocery store. The community consisted of small family farms, and everyone worked together in times of need. Youngest of six siblings, dad was born July 31, 1936. His family was not wealthy, but dad always reminded us he never went hungry and was very thankful. As a boy growing up, dad loved baseball, horseshoes, and later enjoyed dancing and bowling. He attended church often and was typically the only server for the priests who said mass at the Loretta Catholic Church. He served mass for Father Emil Kapaun on many occasions who is currently being considered for Sainthood by the Catholic Church. Dad attended high school at St. Joseph's College &amp; Military Academy, Hays, Kansas and graduated May 1955. He then enlisted in the US Army and served three years from October 1956 to October 1959 including 2 years in Germany. One month later was married to Mary Ellen and three kids later, Kalon 1960, Karen 1962, &amp; Korey 1968; kept dad and mom very busy!!

Dad spent his early married years living in Wichita, Kansas working in the floor covering business. First as a salesman and later transitioned to self-employment under the business name 'Frank's Carpet Service. After many successful years in the floor covering business, the decision was made in 1992 to move to the Branson, Missouri area where he became the landscape manager for Big Cedar Lodge. A position which he truly enjoyed and held for 15 years. Dad never met a stranger and loved to visit with the guests about where they were from and usually ending with compliments on the beautiful grounds. He also received numerous employee awards for excellence in service.

During his retirement years, dad looked forward to serving his home parish 'Our Lady of the Lake' however he could. He ushered at mass, was a member of the prayer chain group, and volunteered at many parish functions. He was famous for his dancing skills at the annual spaghetti dinner, never sitting down once the music started. He also volunteered at Christian Action Ministries (CAM) once a week helping to sort and distribute food to those of need in the community.

After a lot of coaxing, dad traveled to Indonesia and Kuwait to visit Kalon and his family. There were many great times during his visits. While in Indonesia, dad hung out with all the spouses', playing cards and golf. He loved it. While in Kuwait, dad always liked to walk the beach to collect shells until security forces arrested him because they thought he was an intruder!

Korey always maintained a close relationship with dad, especially during those holidays when dad was alone. Korey would cook holiday meals and watch sports with dad.

Summertime was always special for him because his grandkids would visit and eventually great grandkids to enjoy some lake time. The family has been loving the Table Rock Lake area for four generations now. Frank was also well known in his neighborhood (Clearwater Acres), and truly loved living in the community. He always had an American Flag displayed and his yard was well-manicured. He was very proud to call the Ozarks his HOME.

It became apparent in his later years that dad was suffering from dementia. He managed to live on his own until the last couple of years. Dad was moved to Wichita for memory care which enabled Karen and dad extra time to enjoy one another's company. His nephew Paul also visited him on a regular basis, which the family will be forever grateful. Thankfully, dad recognized all his family until God called him home. He will be greatly missed and always remembered for his prayer &amp; faith in God, kindness, generosity, love of music and dancing up a storm whether he had a partner or not.

Rest in peace dad. We will always love you!

Francis J. “Frank” Degenhardt

Sandra Sue Viegra, 81, passed away July 31, 2024 at her home in Larned.

She was born July 7, 1943 in Larned; the daughter of Edward and Alma Buzard Kimmel. A lifetime area resident she was a woman of many talents and was a cook.

She married Joseph Viegra in July of 1960 in Larned and they were married for 64 years; he survives.

Sandra was a member of the Church of Christ in Larned and was a past member of the Larned Saddle Club. She enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling and loved horses, cooking and spending time with her family.

Other survivors include; her children, Timothy (Sonya) Viegra, Great Bend, Danny Viegra, Larned, Mark (Kathy) Viegra, Larned, Jerry (Lisa) Viegra, Larned and John Viegra, Oxford; 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, her dog Scout and her caregivers, Janice Durler, Travis Bradford and Kathy Brown.

She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Max, Ed and Juanita.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9 at the Church of Christ, Larned with James Underwood presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2024 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.

Sandra Viegra, age 81

Donna Mae (Novotny) Hicks, 63, Stockton, Kansas, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 19, 2024, in Kearney, Nebraska. Donna was born at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Hutchinson, Kansas on May 2, 1961, to William J. Novotny and Dorothy M. (Irsik) Novotny. On February 8, 1980, Donna married Gary E. Hicks in Hutchinson, Kansas. Together they had two Sons: Ronald J. Hicks and Richard W. Hicks.

Donna spent her life spreading love, kindness, knowledge, and art to all. Donna was an active Grassroots artist and enjoyed sharing her love of Grassroots Art with the world. She loved teaching children about bugs, animals, plants, and all things arts and crafts. She was our family entomologist and reference library.

Donna leaves behind her sons, Ronald (Terah) and Richard; grandchildren, Annabel Hicks and Brenton Powell; mother, Dorothy; siblings, Elaine (Monte) Ingraham, Linda Case, Susan Bandt (Jerry Sanders), Kathy (Mike) Rector, Jeanny Neuway, Marilyn Suskey, John (Veronica) Novotny, and Sam Novotny; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Donna was proceeded in death by her husband, Gary, and father, William.

Charles Ryan Mackey, of Holyrood, KS, passed away on July 24, 2024, in Roenoke, VA, at the age of 46. He was born on January 17, 1978, to Robert and Thelma (Davis) Mackey in Independence, KS. He married Caroline Waymaster on December 12, 2002, in Ellsworth, KS.

A beloved trucker and cherished friend, Charles was a man who truly loved his work. Whether he was behind the wheel of his truck, working on a project as a mechanic, carpenter, or electrician, or simply enjoying a Mt Dew (which he lived on!), he approached everything with enthusiasm and expertise. His hands-on skills and wide-ranging talents were matched only by his generous spirit.

A simple man with a heart full of love, Charles had a remarkable ability to make everyone around him feel valued. He was always willing to lend a hand, no matter the need. He was a loving friend and family member who touched the lives of many.

In honoring Charles’s life, we remember a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and worked tirelessly. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of kindness and hard work will continue to inspire those who knew him.

Linda Mae Partridge, 72, passed away on July 28, 2024 at Cedar Village Care Center Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born on July 29th, 1951 in Concord, NH. She was the daughter of Cleve Charles and Audrey (Sweetland) Pogue.

Survivors include her only child Kristine Gibbs and her husband Jeff Gibbs of Calhan, CO; granddaughter, Emily Mae Gibbs; her two brothers, Cleve Pogue of Cave Creek, Arizona and Lee Pogue of Dodge City; sisters, Leila Duncan of Dodge City. She was preceded in death by both of her parents.

Linda went to Dodge City High School. &nbsp;Then graduated from Truck Driving School of Dodge City. &nbsp; After that, the first and only woman hired by Dillons at the age of 23. &nbsp;She also unloaded her own truck. &nbsp;After a decade of driving trucks, then went on to work for the Department of Aging in Hutchinson, KS. Attended Wichita State University to receive a master’s degree in Gerontology. She Worked for Manor of the Plains Dodge City as a Social Services Director for 10 years until she had to retire early do to health reasons. &nbsp;

Funeral service will be on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Ness City, Kansas with burial following at Maple Grove Cemetery Dodge City, Kansas. Friends may call at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, Kansas on August 2nd, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. -7:00 p.m. with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Linda Mae Partridge

Harry Anthony Moos passed away at the Graham County Hospital July 28, 2024. At 89 years of age, he had lived a long life. He was born June 3, 1935, to Harry and Alice (Desbien) Moos. When he was thirteen his sister Carol was born. Harry prided himself on the fact that he and his sister never had an argument. Eight years later his brother Brian joined the family. Harry grew up on their family farm experiencing the hard life of a dairy farmer. He first attended a country school, then went to Sacred Heart School, and later graduated from Plainville High School.

After graduating from Fort Hays State College, he married Sharyl Belisle, August 5, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar. They moved to Logan where he began his teaching career. They lived there for five years, during which time their three children, Warren, Tanya, and Douglas, were born. Then they moved to Ellis for three years before settling in Hill City, where they lived the rest of their lives. Harry taught school for his entire career. He was an English teacher in addition to teaching drama and psychology. Eventually he went back to Fort Hays State for his master’s in psychology so he could become a guidance counselor. Harry was also a woodworker and took great pride in improving his home through

his personalized cupboards, shelves, and dressers among other things.

He also built trains and other wooden toys to sell at craft shows. Harry and Sharyl toured Kansas each summer to attend their favorite shows around the state, including the Walnut Bluegrass Festival in Winfield where they spent time with their craft show friends.

In addition to his woodworking, Harry had other hobbies. He carefully researched everything he was interested in, and often wrote articles for hobby magazines about his various endeavors. He collected guns and shells, made wine, built a darkroom in the basement, and after retirement, he built a model train layout that took over the entire basement. He enjoyed showing the trains to his great grandkids. Harry and Sharyl were also avid card players and talented dancers, often stealing the floor at high school dances where the students were delighted to see their “stuffy” teacher cutting a rug.

After retirement Harry spent a lot of time with his grandchildren and caring for his wife. He loved raising dogs and kept them around for companionship. He was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, reading for services and attending Mass regularly. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharyl, and two sons Warren and Douglas. He is survived by daughter Tanya Parr of Lawrence; grandchildren: Paula (Jinchen) Li of Overland Park and Eric Simpson of Missoula, Montana; great grandchildren: Forrest and Estelle Li and Freyja Simpson; his sister Carol (Bob) Parker and his brother Brian (Lisa) Moos all of Plainville.

Harry grew up on their family farm experiencing the hard life of a dairy farmer. He first attended a country school, then went to Sacred Heart School, and later graduated from Plainville High School.After graduating from Fort Hays State College, he married Sharyl Belisle, August 5, 1958, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Damar. They moved to Logan where he began his teaching career. They lived there for five years, during which time their three children, Warren, Tanya, and Douglas, were born. Then they moved to Ellis for three years before settling in Hill City, where they lived the rest of their lives. Harry taught school for his entire career. He was an English teacher in addition to teaching drama and psychology. Eventually he went back to Fort Hays State for his master’s in psychology so he could become a guidance counselor. Harry was also a woodworker and took great pride in improving his home throughhis personalized cupboards, shelves, and dressers among other things.He also built trains and other wooden toys to sell at craft shows. Harry and Sharyl toured Kansas each summer to attend their favorite shows around the state, including the Walnut Bluegrass Festival in Winfield where they spent time with their craft show friends.In addition to his woodworking, Harry had other hobbies. He carefully researched everything he was interested in, and often wrote articles for hobby magazines about his various endeavors. He collected guns and shells, made wine, built a darkroom in the basement, and after retirement, he built a model train layout that took over the entire basement. He enjoyed showing the trains to his great grandkids. Harry and Sharyl were also avid card players and talented dancers, often stealing the floor at high school dances where the students were delighted to see their “stuffy” teacher cutting a rug.After retirement Harry spent a lot of time with his grandchildren and caring for his wife. He loved raising dogs and kept them around for companionship. He was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, reading for services and attending Mass regularly. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharyl, and two sons Warren and Douglas. He is survived by daughter Tanya Parr of Lawrence; grandchildren: Paula (Jinchen) Li of Overland Park and Eric Simpson of Missoula, Montana; great grandchildren: Forrest and Estelle Li and Freyja Simpson; his sister Carol (Bob) Parker and his brother Brian (Lisa) Moos all of Plainville.

Reva Ardel Houser, 92, of Plainville, Kansas, died on Friday, July 26, 2024, at the Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, Kansas.

Ardell was born on June 13, 1932, on the family farm in rural Natoma, Kansas, the daughter of Matthew A. and Velma P. (Dorr) Kirkwood. She grew up in Natoma and graduated from Natoma High School in the class of 1950. She met, fell in love with and united in marriage to Billy Lynn Houser in July 22, 1950. From this union Ardell and Bill were blessed with 4 sons Lynn, Jerry, Kirk and Tom. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker. Ardell began her career as a cook at the school in Codell, Kansas. In 1966 they moved to California. While there Ardell cooked at a nursing home. In 1975, they moved back to Kansas, where she took classes to become a dietary manager. She was the dietary manager at a nursing home in Phillipsburg, Kansas from 1975 to early 1982. In 1982 they moved to Plainville, where she managed the school kitchen until her retirement in 1993. On November 10, 2000, she was married to Wayne Wickham. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Plainville. She enjoyed crocheting, collecting decorative plates, traveling, spoiling her dog and spending time with her family.

Surviving family include her four sons Lynn Houser (Cherie) of Plainville, Kansas, Jerry Houser (Janet) of Fairfield, Illinois, Kirk Houser (Connie) of Weaubleau, Missouri and Tom Houser (Cindy) of Madison, South Dakota; 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Bill on December 29, 1989 her second husband Wayne Wickham on July 06, 2014, and a granddaughter Mitsy Houser Elliot.

A celebration of Reva’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, August 03, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Plainville, Kansas. Family greeting and visitation will be at the church from 10 A.M. to service time, Saturday August 03, 2024. A burial will follow the church service at the Natoma City Cemetery in Natoma, Kansas. Roy “Bob” Stricker went home to be
with His Lord on July 29, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend,
Kansas. Bob was born in Russell County at the family farm south of Russell on
March 30, 1932, to Gottfried and Amalia “Mollie” (Niedenthal) Stricker. He was
the eighth of fourteen children. 

Bob attended Russell High School and
graduated in 1950. He then attended Brown-Mackie School in Salina, Kansas. He
returned home to help his dad farm in Winona, in Western Kansas, until he was
drafted in June 1955, during the Korean War. Bob proudly served in the U.S.
Army and was deployed to Korea from November 1955, to April 1957. He continued
to serve in the Army Reserve until his discharge in 1963.

Bob married Marilyn Rugan on November
23, 1963, in Ellinwood. Bob worked for the United States Postal Service in
Great Bend from 1958, until 1988. His favorite hobbies were baseball, bowling,
fishing, hunting, and cheering for his Pittsburgh Steelers every Sunday during
football season. He never missed a hunting season out on the family
farm/homestead with his family and friends. Bob’s greatest love was fishing,
and he treasured all the time he spent out on the lake. Every year, he’d
celebrate his success by hosting a huge fish fry every fall for family and
friends. Bob loved his Lord and was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church where
he sang in the church choir from 1981, until June 2019. Bob was also a member
of the VFW Post #3111 in Great Bend. 

Bob
is survived by his two children; Scott (Susie) Stricker of Superior, Colorado
and Amy (Victor) Fuentes of La Salle, Colorado; granddaughters: Briana (Mace) Gallup
and their children Mace, Addisyn and Marrek; Laura Stricker and Erin Stricker.
Grandsons: Grant Skarohlid; Brian (Josefina) Skarohlid and their children A’Jay
and Juniper, Wes Skarohlid and his daughter, April; two brothers:
Elmer Stricker of Cedar Hill, TX; Tom (Judy) Stricker of Hill City, KS and
three sisters: Elsena Bender of Great Bend, KS; Mary Jane Doonan of Scottsdale,
AZ; and Kathryn Booth of Tulsa, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents;
brothers, Harvey Stricker, Gottfried “Fritz” Stricker Jr., Glen Stricker, Dean
Stricker and an infant brother, Henry Hubert Stricker; sisters, Rozella Van
Reenan, Helena “Helen” Michaelis and Lenetta Springer.

Benjamin Lee Meadows, 40, of Colby, died Wednesday, July 24, 2024. He was born on January 15, 1984, in Indiana. Ben married Cami Kile on June 28, 2008, in Colby. He worked as a farmhand for his close friend Marvin Urban. Ben enjoyed riding his motorcycles and was a member of the Tri-State Coalition of Concerned Motorcyclists for several years. He loved going to the lake with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Betty and Caryl Stansbury and stepfather Don Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cami Meadows; his children, Tia-Leigh (Khase) Meadows, Sayde Boutte, Tage Meadows and Ryker Meadows; his mother Brenda Jones; brothers, David Meadows and family, Uriah Maurer and Luke Maurer; his stepdad, Rob Maurer and wife Betty; close friends, the Cline family and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Larry Wayne Horton, 72, passed away on Monday, November 20, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas. Larry was born July 26, 1954 to Loren and Delpha (Fitzerald) Horton.

Larry grew up on the family farm in rural Sheridan County and graduated from Hoxie High School with the Class of 1969. After high school, Larry attended Colby Community College for one year and then enlisted in the United States Army.

On October 9, 1976, he married Dalene Luft, and they had one daughter, Ashley. Throughout his life he enjoyed farming, raising pigs, driving trucks, and construction work.

Larry is survived by his daughter: Ashley (Garrett) Wagner of McCook, NE and grandchildren: Harrison, Madden, Owen, and Magnolia. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Delpha, and half-brother Raymond Hoffman.

Larry Lee McNames, 80, passed away on July 28, 2024 in Plainville, KS. Larry was born on November 2, 1943 in Montrose, CO.

Larry was adopted by Harry and Regina (Beanblossom) McNames in Julesburg, CO in the summer of 1948 when he was 4 years old.

Larry was raised in Julesburg and graduated from Julesburg High School in 1962. After high school Larry went into the Air Force and married Sandra Wood in 1966. The couple went to Adams State College in Alamosa, CO and after college both worked in geology and taught high school. Larry loved to collect rocks, read, but most of all spend time with his family.

Larry is survived by wife: Sandra Wood McNames; sons: Ryan and Neal McNames; son-in-law: John Cooper; granddaughters: Skylar Cooper-Evetovich, Devon Cooper; great-grandson: Zed Lockwood. He is also survived by his sister: Betty Bulla; mother-in-law: Veda Wood, and sister-and brothers in law as well as many nieces and nephews.

Carl R. Brandt, 91, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Carl was born January 15, 1933, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Charles L. and Mildred (O’Neil) Brandt. He was a resident of La Crosse, Kansas, since 1961, moving there from Coffeyville, Kansas. A 1951 graduate of La Crosse Rural High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was an electrician and owned and operated Brandt Electric from 1962 to 1996.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, VFW Post 3147, and American Legion Post 33, all of La Crosse, Kansas. His memberships included Walnut Valley Masonic Lodge 215, Rush Center, Kansas, and the ISIS Shrine, Salina, Kansas. Carl was a former police officer for the City of La Crosse, and a former volunteer firefighter for the La Crosse Brookdale Township. He became known as the “Official Ice Cream Man” for the Kansas Honor Flight.

A United States Army veteran, he served from 1952 to 1960, earning the rank of Corporal (T).

On March 9, 1957, he married Mary Ann Depperschmidt at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas. She preceded him in death August 2, 2000.

Survivors include: two sons, Richard C. Brandt, La Crosse, Kansas, and Larry J. Brandt (Sarah), Dumas, Texas; one daughter, Patricia A. Crowell (Steve), Clearwater, Kansas; six grandchildren, Grace Ellis, Hilary Brandt, Sam Brandt, Kevin Powell, Matthew Crowell, and Jacob Crowell; and eight

great grandchildren, Alexander Ellis, Ezra Ellis, Brett Maynard, Emmalee Wood, Atley Crowell, Bristol Crowell, Roman Powell, and Maxwell Brandt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; six brothers, William Brandt, Franklin Brandt, Sam Brandt, John Brandt, Paul Brandt, and Ralph Brandt; and one sister, Mary Burdett.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Friday, August 2, 2024, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Friday, August 2, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating. Interment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

He was born on June 8, 1940, to Lawrence and Florence (Mitsch) Hein in Gary, Indiana. He married Judith Ann E. Hrdlicka on October 7, 1961, in Hebron, Indiana.Charles grew up in Merrillville, Indiana on a dairy farm. He graduated from Merrillville High School in 1957 where he was also named FFA Star Farmer. Later he graduated from Purdue University Agriculture Short Course. Charles worked as a farmer at Happy Note Farm and owned Happy Note Tack Shoppe and Arena in Crown Point, Indiana. He was also a bus driver for Crown Point Community Schools for 30 years.Charles was a 4-H leader in Indiana for 60 years and served the Indiana Soil and WaterConservation and Indiana Holstein Association. He loved to do karaoke to old country music and play the drums with his wife on the piano.Charles is survived by his children, Victoria (Richard) Gianni of Stockton, Cynthia Granger of Crown Point, Indiana, and Kenneth Hein of Wheatfield, Indiana; brother, Thomas (Dee) Hein of Merrillville, IN; brother-in-law, Vernon Schreiber of Merrillville, IN; eight grandchildren, Kyle (Christine) Gianni of Morgantown, WV, Charles (Amber) Granger of Lake Village, IN, Courtney (Steve) McKinney of Lowell, IN, David (Casey) of St. John, IN, Daniel Granger of Crown Point, IN, Anna Marie (Eric) Biggs of Stockton, KS, Josephine Gianni of Scott City, KS, and Tyler (Savannah) Hein of Wheatfield, IN; ten great-grandchildren, Emmaline Dunlop, Susan Boles, Lucy Granger, Ellinore Granger, Waylynn Biggs, Weston Biggs, Wyatt Biggs, Jackson McKinney, Eden McKinney and Piper McKinney; and many loving nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Hein; mother, Florence (Mitsch) Hein; brothers, Paul and Michael Hein; sister, Shirley Westcott; sisters-in-law, Nancy Hein and Mary Jane Schreiber; and son-in-law, Robyn Granger. His wife, Judith Hein recently passed away on July 24, 2024.A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 3-7PM at Stockton City Hall in Stockton, KS.
