Elaine Savilla Holmes, 87, of Russell, Kansas, died on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Elaine was born on February 19, 1935, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Harvey and Doris&nbsp;(Bennett)&nbsp;Covington. &nbsp;She grew up in Phillips, Texas and graduated from Phillips High School. &nbsp;She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Jack Holmes on November 1, 1953, in Phillips, Texas. &nbsp;From this union Elaine and Jack were blessed with&nbsp;3 children&nbsp;Tami, Julia&nbsp;and Tim.&nbsp;&nbsp;The family lived in Sterling, Colorado, Cambridge, Nebraska and Farmington, New Mexico before moving to Russell, Kansas in 1974. &nbsp;Elaine worked for the Russell Chamber of Commerce for 10 years. &nbsp;Then she had the opportunity to work&nbsp;for the Russell County Courthouse working for the Russell County Clerk’s office for 5 years and the Register of Deeds for 6&nbsp;years.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a former&nbsp;active&nbsp;member of Calvary Chapel Assembly of God.

Surviving family include&nbsp;daughter&nbsp;Tami Hoffman&nbsp;and husband David&nbsp;of Golden, Colorado and Son, Tim Holmes of Wichita, Kansas; four grandchildren Julie King, Denver, Colorado, Jenny Maxwell, Arvada, Colorado, Justin (Maggie) Hoffman, Arvada, Colorado, Lauren (Alex) Lievestro, San Diego, California;&nbsp;six&nbsp;great-grandchildren Elise&nbsp;King Denver Colorado;&nbsp;Ava King, Nashville, Tennessee;&nbsp;Zadie, Zyla and Zaxton Maxwell, Arvada, Colorado; and&nbsp;Sawyer Hoffman of Arvada, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her&nbsp;daughter Julia Holmes, her parents Harvey &amp; Doris Covington, her sister Peggy Norris and brother Tom Covington.

A memorial service to celebrate Elaine’s life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas. &nbsp;Cremation has been selected by the family and burial of the cremains will take place at the Russell City Cemetery. &nbsp;Family will greet guests the day of the service&nbsp;with a luncheon to follow at her beloved church Calvary Chapel Assembly of God.&nbsp;

Michael Francis Diehl, 65, longtime Hays resident, died Monday, July 11, 2022, at Kenwood View Health Center in Salina.

He was born May 29, 1957, in Hays, the 
son of William F. and Bridget (Jacobs) Diehl.&nbsp; He attended the Kansas 
School for the Deaf in Olathe, graduating in 1976.&nbsp; Michael was an avid 
sports fan and always cheered for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Survivors include his two brothers: 
William and Kenneth Diehl, four sisters: Virginia Ekey, Lillian Van 
Loenen, Janice Krannawitter, and Karen Swain, and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

He was preceded in death by his 
parents, a brother: Jacob Diehl, and three sisters: Judy Pohlenz, 
Kristina Schmidt, and Kathleen Diehl.&nbsp;

Private inurnment will be in St. Joseph

Bertha Louise Carter, 88, passed away following health complications, 
June 19, 2022, at the Graham County Hospital. She was born July 29, 
1933, in Rural Nicodemus, Kansas, the daughter of Nathainel Moore, Sr. 
and Sarah (Griffie) Moore.
 January 21, 1956, Bertha married Robert Earl Carter of Emporia in 
Nicodemus. Three children were born to this union: Bondetta, Arnold, 
and Sylvester. Bertha was mostly a stay-at-home wife and mother. 
However, she helped around the farm when needed, doing anything from 
driving a tractor to completing an engine overhaul on a vehicle. Robert
 and Bertha were married for 38 years before he passed away at the VA 
Hospital in Wichita in August of 1994.
 Many times, in later years, one of Bertha’s grandchildren called her
 to ask for advice with what was going on with their automobile. She 
told them what the problem was and how to fix it. They were satisfied 
with the answer she gave because she was always right. Other activities 
Bertha enjoyed were fishing, hunting, and watching sports. She did well 
at almost everything she tried, even baking those lemon meringue pies 
that only Sylvester, liked. 
 Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Dorethy; 
three brothers: Nathainel, Jr., Wilfred, and Donald. Left to cherish 
her memory are her three children: Bondetta, Arnold and Sylvester and 
their spouses: Brian, Gloria and Lorette; grandchildren: Malinda, 
Natusha, Terry, Brice and Megan Carter, Brandon and Erin Carter, Ebonee 
and Cote Hower, Anthony Henderson, Tanisha Walker, Tasheena Carter, 
Trace, Keenan and Jayden Engel, and Dalton Yost; many great 
grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister, Florence

Bob Cook, 97, of Salina, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 10th, 2022.
 Bob was born in St. Francis, Kansas, on November 8, 1924, a son of Arthur Robert Cook and Irene (Carlson) Cook Weis.
 He worked in soil conservation, road construction, and owned and operated Cook Mobile Home Service.
 Bob served during WWII in the United States Army as a paratrooper from 1944 - 1946.
 On May 25, 1950, Bob married Beverly M. Shores in Goodland, Kansas.
 Bob and his daughter, Cathy were avid world travelers, specifically 
to Costa Rica, Europe, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and throughout the United
 States. He loved to visit his nieces and nephews and friends at the 
Salina VFW and American Legion Posts. 
 Bob looked forward to family get-togethers, holidays, cook-outs, and other events. 
 He was also blessed to be able to take the Kansas Honor Flight #12, 
April 30-May 2, 2014, and the Dream Flight on August 26, 2021.
 Survivors include his daughter, Cathy Boll, (Joe Miller) of Salina, 
Kansas; granddog, River; step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren; 
and nieces and nephews.
 He is preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Fred Weis; 
grandparents, John and Izzy Carlson; wife, Beverly; son, Dale Cook; 
sisters, Jeannette Baxley, and Ruby Morton. 
 Cremation has been chosen. 
 Family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, July 
19th, at Carlson - Geisendorf Funeral Home and Crematory in Salina,

William A. “Trey” Jones III, died Thursday, July 7, 2022, in 
Louisville, KY. He was born November 5, 1979, in McPherson, KS, to 
William A. and Mary A. (Hoss) Jones.

Trey and his family were in Louisville for a basketball tournament 
when he and his family were struck by a vehicle. Sadly, Trey succumbed 
to his injuries. Amy and Ava are still hospitalized. Due to the 
circumstances, all funeral arrangements are pending at this time.

thru Saturday 9-5, and Sunday 1-5.

William A. 'Trey' Jones III

Ronny Dee Stockman, 65, passed away July 8, 2022, in Hays, KS. &nbsp;Ron 
was born April 1, 1957 in Garrett, Indiana to JV and Nadine Stockman. 
Ronny was raised in Goodland Kansas and graduated from Goodland High 
School, Class of 1975. While in school, Ron competed in wrestling and 
football. Upon graduation he enlisted in the United Stated Navy where he
 completed various schools and was assigned to the USS Nimitz. He spent 
six years enlisted in the navy and saw many different countries. He 
ended his career with the Navy at NAS Whidbey Island, WA.

While in the navy Ron met the love of his life Marie Ida Griest. 
They were married in Jacksonville, Florida, September 8, 1977. After Ron 
was honorably discharged from the Navy in September 1981, he enrolled in
 airframe and power plant school to pursue his interest in mechanics and
 aviation. Upon receiving his FAA certification as a mechanic, he worked
 in the industry refurbishing airliners as an airframe and power plant 
mechanic. He later worked at Watson Pharmaceutical in shipping.

When Marie retired from the banking industry, they wanted to leave
 the rat race of California and find a small acreage where they could 
enjoy their life together and found their dream in a farm in 
Scottsville, Kansas.

Ronny was artistic, played the piano, had a passion for 
motorcycles and enjoyed woodworking. He loved taking his dog Molly for 
rides on his four-wheeler. He was generous with many and loved the Lord,
 his church and the community of Scottsville. He also felt a calling and
 enjoyed his ministry to the nursing home.

&nbsp;&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, his parents Jerry and 
Nadine Stockman, his sister-in-law, Nancy Griest. He is survived by his 
brothers Dan Stockman of Scott City, Kansas and Tim Stockman (Adele) of 
Dalhart, Texas, mother-in-law Mona Griest, sisters-in-law Deborah 
Griest, Beverly Barrows, Pat Cassel; brothers-in-law Andy, Robert and 
Dewayne, numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 10 AM Friday, July 22, at the Roberts 
Family Funeral Home followed by burial in Scottsville Cemetery. 
Memorials may be given to the Scottsville Community Church.

Dolores Maxine Maddy, 87, passed away July 9, 2022, at Chisholm Place
 Assisted Living in Wichita. She was born on September 24, 1934, in 
Alamota, Kan. to Jacob &amp; Naomi (Bahm) Bauer. She married Carl E. 
Maddy on August 28, 1955 in Dighton.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Dolores was the secretary for 
Security State Bank for three years before becoming a homemaker. She 
then worked part time for Ronald L. Miller, CPA for over thirty years. 
She graduated from Dighton High School and attended Brown Mackie 
Business College in Salina. Dolores was a member of Central Baptist 
Church in Great Bend. She enjoyed fishing and camping but especially 
loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Carl Maddy of Wichita; her children, 
Steven Maddy and wife Clarissa of Wichita, Terri Kennard of Wichita and 
Michael Maddy of Larned; a brother, Gary Bauer of Larned; seven 
grandchildren, Megan, Toby-James, Shannon, Shelbe, Samantha, Taryn and 
Gannon; two step grandchildren, Brooke and Stephen; a great 
granddaughter, Emersyn Lynn, with one on the way; and several nieces and
 nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Naomi 
Bauer; a daughter, Lynette Gallentine; and a sister, Juanita (Bauer) 
Zink.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and services
 are pending at this time.

Roger L. Hanhardt, 76, Hays, died Monday, July 11, 2022 at HaysMed.

He was born June 17, 1946, in Great 
Bend, the son of Albert and Ella (Folkerts) Hanhardt.&nbsp; Roger grew up in 
Albert and graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1964.&nbsp; Throughout 
high school he enjoyed playing basketball and met many good people who 
remained lifelong friends.&nbsp; In 1964, he graduated from Kansas School of 
Barbering in Wichita and worked briefly before he was drafted into the 
U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam as an operating room tech (surgical) in

 was united in marriage to Sally Jo (Mapes) Pfannenstiel in Albert, and 
they celebrated 21 years of marriage.&nbsp; Roger was a member of Messiah 
Lutheran Church and the VFW.&nbsp; He loved cars, his dogs, and was an avid 
K-State football fan.

Survivors include his wife Sally Jo of 
Hays, two stepsons: Jesse Pfannenstiel of Topeka and Andrew Pfannenstiel
 of Colorado Springs, CO, one brother: Don Hanhardt and wife Marty of 
Albert, and three grandchildren: Sophia, Brooks, and Scarlett 
Pfannenstiel.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on
 Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert.&nbsp; The family

Phillipsburg resident Jack Siglinger Jr. passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, in the Phillips County Retirement Center, Phillipsburg, at the age of 93.

He was born April 5, 1929, in Phillipsburg the son of John Paul and Ethel I. (Nay) Siglinger.  He worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Phillipsburg for 47 years.

He was united in marriage to Mickey Jackson on October 7, 1950, in Great Bend, Kansas.  She preceded him in death on December 5, 2016.

Jack was also preceded in death by his parents; a son Marlin Ray Siglinger; a brother Donald Wayne; a sister Menta Margaret Bickle; and granddaughter Stacy Siglinger.

Survivors include sons Stanley J. Siglinger and wife Bonita of WaKeeney and Paul Reid Siglinger of Phillipsburg; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.  The services will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.  Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Phillipsburg.

Donna Jean Faidley, 93, passed away July 10, 2022, at the Logan Manor in Logan, Kansas. Donna was born March 8, 1929, in Industry, Kansas. She was the daughter of John and Margaret (Bletscher) Sheedy. They later moved to Longford, Kansas, where she attended school and graduated from Longford high School in 1946.

In 1947, she married Clarence Faidley Jr. and to this union three children were born. William "Bill", Margaret, and Mary. The couple later divorced.

Donna Jean ran the family dairy with her son Bill's help until she moved back to Longford where she started working as a waitress at the Coachlight Restaurant. She was later asked to manage the restaurant where she continued to enjoy working with her coworkers and getting to visit with all the customers who entered for a delicious meal. 

Donna was a member of the Oakhill Presbyterian Church for many years, and the Rebekah Lodge for over 50 years. 

Survivors include her son Bill Faidley of Longford, Kansas, daughters Margaret Morris and husband Jim of Logan, Kansas, and Mary Bechard and husband Don of Belleville, Kansas. She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The family chose cremation. Graveside services will be held at a later date at Athelstane Cemetery in Longford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Logan Manor or the Coachlight Restaurant.

Charles Lee Welch passed away on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Logan 
County Manor in Oakley, Kansas at the age of 72. He was born on February
 28, 1950, to Arthur and Joan (White) Welch in Covington, Virginia.
 Charles grew up in Globe, Arizona and graduated from Globe High 
School in 1968. He furthered his education at Northern Arizona 
University majoring in English. Charles was a talented singer and sang 
in a choir as well as bowled competitively in several leagues. He met 
and married Wilma Welch on October 3, 1998, at the Methodist Church in 
Woodston, Kansas. The couple made their home in Winkleman, Arizona until
 he retired from ASARCO mining as a chemist in 2003. They returned to 
Rooks County where they resided in Woodston and later relocated to 
Stockton, and finally, Plainville.
 Charles was a hardworking, loving, and dedicated family man. He 
loved what he did and did what he loved. Although he will be greatly 
missed, his life, his love, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of
 his family and friends. In the words of his favorite Gospel singer Bill
 Gaither, “I’ve been blessed. This has been a great journey and a great 
trip.” 
 He is survived by his children, James and Pamela of AZ; sister, Shae
 (Dan) Mercado of Oracle, AZ; brother-in-law, Garold (Judy) Holcombe of 
Maud, OK; nieces, Melissa (John) Weidow of Geronimo, OK, Christina

Jim L. Lisenby, age 68, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 
peacefully at his home in Scott County, Kansas. He was born on July 10, 
1953, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, the son of William Woodrow and LeEtta 
Leneave Lisenby. He was a resident of Scott City, Kansas, since 1972 
moving from Mount Vernon, Illinois. He was a truck driver until retiring
 in 2017.&nbsp;

He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Scott City, Kansas, and was a member of the NRA.

On November 26, 1972, he married Patsy Faurot in Mount Vernon, Illinois. &nbsp;She survives.

Survivors include his Wife - Patsy Lisenby of Scott City, Kansas, Two
 Daughters - Shawna &amp; Matt Lyon of Hays, Kansas, Amie Lisenby of 
Wewoka, Oklahoma, One Son - Jeromy &amp; Lindsey Lisenby of Scott City,

 Larned. He was born on December 29, 1932, at Jamestown, New York, to 
Kenneth &amp; Ethel (Rowland) Warner-Peters. He married Gloria Berger on
 November 24, 1971 in Poland, New York. &nbsp;&nbsp;

A current Great Bend resident, Roger was a farmer. He loved the 
country life and its serene nature. Roger loved animals and fishing. He 
was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship Church. Roger served in the 
United States Army while being stationed in Nuremberg, Germany from 
1952-1955.

Survivors include, his wife, Gloria Warner of the home; four sons, 
Roger K. Warner, Jr. of Waddell, Ariz., Kirby Warner of Goodyear, Ariz.,
 William Warner of Lakewood, New York and Danny Warner or Jamestown, New
 York; two stepsons, Chuck Warner and Kim Michael, both of Jamestown, 
NY; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; a brother Donald Warner; and three sisters, Barbara Warner 
Traver Smith, Janet Traver and Dorothy Lundmark. &nbsp;

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and services

Roger Kenneth Warner

Thomas Lloyd Beatty, 74, of Luray, Kansas, went to Heaven with the 
Lord, on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical 
Center in Hutchinson, Kansas after a valiant battle with numerous health
 issues.

Thomas was born on May 25, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Lloyd 
R. and Bertha Maude (Reiss) Beatty.&nbsp; He grew up in the Amherst area and 
graduated from Luray High School in the class of 1966 where he enjoyed 
playing football.&nbsp; After high school, Tom attended Ft. Hays State 
University in Hays, Kansas where he played football.&nbsp; He met, fell in 
love and was united in marriage to Renita Rae Schilling on June 18, 
1994, in Onaga, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union, Tom and Renita were blessed 
with 5 children Shawn, Dylan, Austin, Jamie and Dakota.&nbsp; He lived, 
worked his whole life, and raised his family, on the Beatty family 
farm.&nbsp; He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39
 years as a highway maintenance employee. He was a longtime member of 
the Amherst United Methodist Church of Waldo, Kansas.&nbsp; He was also a 
member of the Lions Club of Luray, Kansas, Elks Lodge of Russell, 
Kansas, Luray Senior Center Broad Member &amp; President of Luray, 
Kansas, and a Hunter Safety Master Instructor.&nbsp; He enjoyed working and 
taking care of the family farm and being outdoors.&nbsp; He also enjoyed 
doing leather work, hunting and fishing.&nbsp; His love for the outdoors was 
only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends, especially
 his kids and grandkids.

Surviving family include his wife Renita of the home; daughter Jamie 
Edwards and husband Emmanuel of Wellington, Kansas; sons Shawn Beatty 
and wife Misty of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, Dylan Beatty and wife Megan of 
Hutchinson, Kansas, Austin Beatty and wife Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and 
Dakota Beatty and spouse Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and 18 grandchildren. 
He is also survived by many Friends and Family members.&nbsp; He leaves a 
huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always 
entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother John 
Beatty. A memorial service to celebrate Thomas’ life will be held. on 
September 17, 2022, at the Amherst United Methodist Church of Waldo, 
Kansas.&nbsp; 

Memorials may be given to the Amherst United Methodist Church 
or Luray Senior Center and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp; 
Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the 
funeral service arrangements.

Lord, on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical 
Center in Hutchinson, Kansas after a valiant battle with numerous health
 issues.Thomas was born on May 25, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Lloyd 
R. and Bertha Maude (Reiss) Beatty.&nbsp; He grew up in the Amherst area and 
graduated from Luray High School in the class of 1966 where he enjoyed 
playing football.&nbsp; After high school, Tom attended Ft. Hays State 
University in Hays, Kansas where he played football.&nbsp; He met, fell in 
love and was united in marriage to Renita Rae Schilling on June 18, 
1994, in Onaga, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union, Tom and Renita were blessed 
with 5 children Shawn, Dylan, Austin, Jamie and Dakota.&nbsp; He lived, 
worked his whole life, and raised his family, on the Beatty family 
farm.&nbsp; He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39
 years as a highway maintenance employee. He was a longtime member of 
the Amherst United Methodist Church of Waldo, Kansas.&nbsp; He was also a 
member of the Lions Club of Luray, Kansas, Elks Lodge of Russell, 
Kansas, Luray Senior Center Broad Member &amp; President of Luray, 
Kansas, and a Hunter Safety Master Instructor.&nbsp; He enjoyed working and 
taking care of the family farm and being outdoors.&nbsp; He also enjoyed 
doing leather work, hunting and fishing.&nbsp; His love for the outdoors was 
only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends, especially
 his kids and grandkids.Surviving family include his wife Renita of the home; daughter Jamie 
Edwards and husband Emmanuel of Wellington, Kansas; sons Shawn Beatty 
and wife Misty of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, Dylan Beatty and wife Megan of 
Hutchinson, Kansas, Austin Beatty and wife Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and 
Dakota Beatty and spouse Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and 18 grandchildren. 
He is also survived by many Friends and Family members.&nbsp; He leaves a 
huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always 
entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor.“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother John 
Beatty. A memorial service to celebrate Thomas’ life will be held. on 
September 17, 2022, at the Amherst United Methodist Church of Waldo, 
Kansas.&nbsp; Memorials may be given to the Amherst United Methodist Church 
or Luray Senior Center and sent in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;

Dona Marie (Fowler) Bender, 72, of Russell, Kansas passed away 
Thursday, July 7, 2022, at the Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas
 City, Kansas.

Dona was born July 6, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas.&nbsp; She was the daughter 
of Donald and Lyla (Bruner) Fowler.&nbsp; She grew up in Wichita and 
graduated from North High School.

Dona was united in marriage to Larry Bender on March 21, 1981, in 
Milberger, Kansas.&nbsp; They made their home on a farm south of Russell.

Dona was a devoted wife and homemaker.&nbsp; When she was younger she 
worked as a Nurse’s Aid.&nbsp; She attended the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of 
Milberger.&nbsp; In her sparetime, she enjoyed gardening, bowling, 
crocheting, and collecting chickens and dolls.

Dona’s surviving family include her husband of 41 years, Larry of the
 home; son, Eric Battaglear (Missy) of Hoisington, Kansas; brothers, Ron
 Fowler (Glenna) of Valley Center, Kansas and Patrick Fowler (Karen) of 
Hillsboro, Kansas; sisters, Carolyn Stock (Keith Unterseher) of Flippin,
 Arkansas and Anita Davis (Denny) of Wichita, Kansas; four 
grandchildren, Jerica Battaglear and Stephanie Horton (Brian), Jason 
Battaglear and Danny Battaglear (Samantha Duran); four great 
grandchildren, Isabella Mickle, Danica Horton, Aurora Horton and Westin 
Lee Battaglear; and six nieces and four nephews.

Dona was preceded in death by her parents, son Jason Battaglear, and brothers Larry Fowler and Mike Fowler.

Celebration of Dona’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 
16, 2022, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger.&nbsp; Burial will 
follow at the Bender Hill Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 9:00 
AM to 8:00 PM, Friday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, with the family

John Henry Becker, 78, of Russell, Kansas, died on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

John&nbsp;was born on August 7, 1943, in Osborne, Kansas, the son of Matt and Luise (Meier) Becker. &nbsp;He grew up on the family farm in Osborne County,&nbsp;Kansas and attended&nbsp;Mt. Hope&nbsp;country schools in Osborne. &nbsp;He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Lillian Jean Graf, on April 23, 1966, in Victoria, Kansas. &nbsp;From this union John and Lillian were blessed with a son Wayne&nbsp;and they made&nbsp;Russell, Kansas their&nbsp;home for over 55 years. &nbsp;John worked hard in the trucking industry as a truck driver&nbsp;and managed Graves Truckline. &nbsp;Later&nbsp;he was&nbsp;a supervisor of&nbsp;PCS Trucking&nbsp;and also worked for ABCO Wire. &nbsp;He was a longtime member of St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church&nbsp;in Russell. &nbsp;He was also a&nbsp;member of the&nbsp;Knights of Columbus and the Elks&nbsp;Lodge of Russell. &nbsp;He enjoyed&nbsp;pheasant&nbsp;hunting, fishing,&nbsp;bowling, softball,&nbsp;billiards,&nbsp;gardening with his wife and watching Kansas City Royals baseball and Kansas City Chiefs&nbsp;and Kansas State University&nbsp;football. &nbsp;Most of all he&nbsp;enjoyed spending time with&nbsp;his family.

Surviving family include his son Wayne Becker of Cleveland, Ohio; brothers&nbsp;Lawrence Becker of Plainville, Kansas&nbsp;and&nbsp;Edward&nbsp;Becker and wife Sandy of Hays, Kansas; sister Lucy William and husband Dan of Osborne, Kansas and grandson Jacob Becker of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lillian on November 24, 2021 and brothers Herman, Adolf&nbsp;and Ray Becker.

A celebration of the funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell, Kansas.  A rosary and vigil will be held at 7:15 P.M. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, July 12th at the mortuary.

Hal Joseph Hollembeak, 66, passed away July 10, 2022, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born on May 26, 1956, in Great Bend, to Roy &amp; 
Twylah (Schmidt) Hollembeak. He married Cindy Coldwater on August 6, 
1983, in Great Bend.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Hal worked in maintenance for USD 428
 and was also a Great Bend Rec Umpire. He was a member of Central 
Baptist Church of Great Bend. He enjoyed hunting in his younger years 
and was an avid sports fan, especially the Kansas City Royals and 
Chiefs. His favorite player of all time was Mickey Mantle. Hal 
especially loved coaching his daughters’ ball teams when they were 
younger.

Survivors include, his wife, Cindy Hollembeak of the home, two 
daughters, Sara Renee Ford and husband Chris and Ashlei Dawn Hollembeak 
all of Great Bend; a brother, Bruce Hollembeak and wife Jeanne of Lee's 
Summit, Mo.; and a sister, Paula Laudick of Wichita. He was preceded in 
death by his parents; a sister, Brenda Royce; and a brother-in-law, Ron 
Laudick.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, July

 the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on June 
4, 1933, in Lycan Colorado, the daughter of Harvey Willis and Winnie Mae
 Maris Simpson. She was a Scott City, Kansas resident since 1951, moving
 from Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp;

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scott City, Kansas.

On May 14, 1952, she married Robert Anson McDaniel at the First 
Christian Church in Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on May 25, 2016.

Survivors include three sons - Larry Robert &amp; Kathy McDaniel of 
Sharon Springs, Kansas, Ross Edward McDaniel &amp; Kelly McCarty of 
Grand Junction, Colorado, Thomas Kent &amp; Pam McDaniel of Scott City, 
Kansas, one daughter - Lois Kay Magie of Salina, Kansas, 13 
grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son - Richard, and one son-in-law - Cliff Magie.

 3, 1940, in Boise, Idaho, the daughter of Martin Earl and Mildred 
Jurldean Hammond Spellman. She was a resident of Scott City, Kansas from
 her youth.

She was a member of the Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas, and was a member of Women on Mission.

On October 5, 1958, she married E. Earl Kendrick in Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on January 25, 2021.

Survivors include One Daughter - Annette &amp; Chris Shultz of Paola,
 Kansas, one daughter-in-law - Kendra Kendrick of Scott City, Kansas, 
One sister - Mary Lou &amp; Jim Redfern of Pueblo, Colorado, three 
brothers - Max &amp; Jerri McQuitty of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mike 
&amp; Teresa McQuitty of Pueblo, Colorado, Robert &amp; Tracy McQuitty

Marilyn Mae Kendrick

Diane Audrey (Dunavan) Gibson passed away, July 8, 2022, at the age of
 52 in Salina, KS. She was born on July 1, 1970, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, 
the first-born daughter of Lt. Colonel Robert Dunavan and Janice 
(Hallagin) Dunavan.

Being a child of the military, Diane traveled across the world with 
her parents and siblings, Brian and Michael Dunavan. At age 14, she was 
diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a condition that slowly took away 
her mobility. She graduated high school at Camp Zama, Japan in 1988, and
 graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Education. 
Diane spent several years working off and on as a substitute teacher.

In 1996, she met her future husband Jeff Gibson, and they were 
married June 7, 1997. Shortly after, they moved to Great Bend, KS. where
 they lived for over 20 years. She continued to substitute teach until 
the birth of her children, Ian in 1999 and Chloe “CJ” in 2002.

Diane was a strong believer in the Christian faith and attended 
church regularly for most of her life. She was a member of the Pawnee 
Rock Christian Church for many years, and served for a time as church 
treasurer.

In 2020, they moved to La Crosse, KS. which became her home until an 
injury in 2022 hospitalized her, from which she never fully recovered. 
Her health related to her Friedreich’s Ataxia continued to decline until
 she passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022, at 7:45 pm at Holiday Resort
 Health and Rehab nursing home in Salina, KS.

Diane is preceded in death by her father Robert Dunavan, and her 
younger brother Michael Dunavan. She is succeeded by her mother Janice 
Dunavan, husband Jeff Gibson, children Ian Gibson and Chloe “CJ” Gibson,
 brother Brian and his wife Karen Dunavan, and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

Graveside service will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 
Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, KS with Pastor John Thomas presiding.
 Visitation will be 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at 
Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, KS. Services will be streamed via Facebook 
live on the Beckwith Mortuary Facebook page.

 52 in Salina, KS. She was born on July 1, 1970, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, 
the first-born daughter of Lt. Colonel Robert Dunavan and Janice 
(Hallagin) Dunavan.Being a child of the military, Diane traveled across the world with 
her parents and siblings, Brian and Michael Dunavan. At age 14, she was

 graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Education.

Diane Audrey Gibson

When it came to this man you didn’t have to talk about acts of kindness – he was kindness. Jay was a man who treated others with respect and dignity. He loved his wife Jane for 47 years and was proud of and raised his children Shelley (husband Matt and grandchildren Grace and Jace – Overland Park), and Adam and Aaron (Lyons) to be honest and hard working. He was a private man who didn’t share his sorrows but was there to support others through theirs. He didn’t need the approval of others. He had the approval of his family and his God. His was a life well lived. This life is over. 

The next life has begun. Love never ends. Love you Jay/dad – your family. 

Jay is also survived by two sisters, Linda Hammersmith and Lona Werth (Hays). As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

There will be no public viewing. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please give your donation directly to a charity of your choice. To the Sterling Literary Club – still “gotta a little somethin’ here.”

Kristy Kay “Kris” Gawith, 60, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Kris was born January 21, 1962, in Norton, Kansas, the daughter of 
William “Bill” and Charlotte (Harold) Nelson.&nbsp; She was a resident of La 
Crosse, Kansas, for three years moving there from Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1980 
graduate of Prairie Heights High School, Jennings, Kansas, she was a 
homemaker.

Kris had the “need for speed”.&nbsp; As a young girl she loved running 
fast and riding her bicycle very fast.&nbsp; So fast, her hair would fly out 
behind her.&nbsp; She wasn’t a slow driver either.&nbsp; She loved driving her 
truck fast.

On November 28, 1981, she married William Dean “Bill” Gawith, at 
Jennings, Kansas.&nbsp; Kris’ inherent love of her animals was the one 
condition of their marriage.&nbsp; If she couldn’t keep her animals, there 
was not going to be a marriage.

She loved raising registered Appaloosa horses.&nbsp; Kris’ first horse was
 Diamond Chris.&nbsp; Kris raised Diamond Echo, a foal of Diamond Chris, to 
rear on cue.

At a family dinner, when Kris and Bill announced Kris was expecting, 
the family assumed they meant Diamond Chris.&nbsp; The news didn’t seem to 
excite anyone, but after explaining it was Kris expecting, and not her 
horse expecting, it became quite the family dinner, which became an 
awesome memory!

Survivors include:&nbsp; her husband, Bill Gawith, La Crosse, Kansas; one 
son, Brad Gawith (Wendy), Rozel, Kansas; two grandsons, Thomas Gawith 
and Kegan Gawith; and her mother, Charlotte Nelson, Jennings, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her father, and an infant brother, Ricky Nelson.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 10, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
 at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family 
receiving friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. &nbsp;

Church visitation will be Monday, July 11, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. to

Michael Earnest Walker, 75, passed away July 5, 2022, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned, KS.

He was born December 4, 1946, in Fresno, Calif., the son of William Henry 
and Irma Sue (Barnes) Bauer.&nbsp; He moved to Larned in 2009 from 
Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was a farm hand and mechanic for many years.

He was of the Seventh Day Adventist Faith and loved doing 
mechanic work.&nbsp; Michael enjoyed anything cowboy, collecting cowboy 
memorabilia and loved John Wayne.&nbsp; He was a quick draw artist and had a 
contest against Sammy Davis Jr.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael C. Walker, Larned, Robert Eugene
 Walker; daughter, Christina Nichole Walker, Globe, AZ; two brothers, 
William Henry Bauer, Nevada, Norman Bauer, Sacramento, CA; two sister, 
Daisy Martin-Stephens and Beverly Bauer, both of Sacramento, CA; three 
grandchildren, Cyler Michael Walker, Jasmine Ruth Regna and Robert 
Joseph Nock.

Cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time.
