Lifelong Sharon Springs, KS resident, Lowell Duane Mather, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Colby Health and Rehab Center in Colby, KS.
Lowell was born on September 22, 1932, to Lowell George (Jimmy) and Beatrice Mae (Lewis) Mather on the farm in Wallace County. He was the oldest of three children. He attended school in Sharon Springs and graduated in 1950 from Wallace County High School.
After serving in the Army from 1953-1955, Lowell married Darla Dee Leitner in Goodland, KS on September 18, 1955. To this union, three children were born; Randall, Pamela and Michael.
Lowell loved farming and did so for most of his life. One of his biggest joys was taking care of all their cattle and animals that they had, with his family at this side. Lowell was very content being on the farm around his animals and dogs. He enjoyed helping his neighbors with whatever they needed, and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee or tea with them. He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He was also very involved in the Baptist Church with serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and helping with any other needs that the church may have had. He enjoyed target shooting and riding horses with his children and grandchildren. He and Darla also drove bus for the school and enjoyed being with the kids on the bus.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Donna Klinge and his brother Gary Mather.
Surviving family includes his wife Darla, his children Randall D. (Christi) Mather of Overland Park, KS, Pamela D. (Thomas) McDaniel of Scott City, KS and Michael D. (Trina) Mather of Sharon Springs, KS. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Dustin Mather of Independence, MO, Brianne (Kelley) Austin of Woodstock, GA, Samuel (Jacey) McDaniel of Oakley, KS and Kasey Mather of Sharon Springs, KS, as well as 5 great grandchildren; Emma, Lily, Ben, Laney and Emmy.
