Marilyn Mae Kendrick, age 81, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2022, 
at Parklane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. She was born on November
 3, 1940, in Boise, Idaho, the daughter of Martin Earl and Mildred 
Jurldean Hammond Spellman. She was a resident of Scott City, Kansas from
 her youth.

She was a member of the Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas, and was a member of Women on Mission.

On October 5, 1958, she married E. Earl Kendrick in Scott City, Kansas. He passed away on January 25, 2021.

Survivors include One Daughter - Annette &amp; Chris Shultz of Paola,
 Kansas, one daughter-in-law - Kendra Kendrick of Scott City, Kansas, 
One sister - Mary Lou &amp; Jim Redfern of Pueblo, Colorado, three 
brothers - Max &amp; Jerri McQuitty of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mike 
&amp; Teresa McQuitty of Pueblo, Colorado, Robert &amp; Tracy McQuitty 
of Colorado, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother - Tommy, one son - Brett, and one Grandson - Ryan

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Wednesday, July 13, 
2022, at Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas with 
pastor Chris Shultz presiding.

Interment will be in the Scott County Cemetery in Scott City, Kansas.

Marilyn Mae Kendrick

Diane Audrey (Dunavan) Gibson passed away, July 8, 2022, at the age of
 52 in Salina, KS. She was born on July 1, 1970, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, 
the first-born daughter of Lt. Colonel Robert Dunavan and Janice 
(Hallagin) Dunavan.

Being a child of the military, Diane traveled across the world with 
her parents and siblings, Brian and Michael Dunavan. At age 14, she was 
diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a condition that slowly took away 
her mobility. She graduated high school at Camp Zama, Japan in 1988, and
 graduated from Fort Hays State University with a degree in Education. 
Diane spent several years working off and on as a substitute teacher.

In 1996, she met her future husband Jeff Gibson, and they were 
married June 7, 1997. Shortly after, they moved to Great Bend, KS. where
 they lived for over 20 years. She continued to substitute teach until 
the birth of her children, Ian in 1999 and Chloe “CJ” in 2002.

Diane was a strong believer in the Christian faith and attended 
church regularly for most of her life. She was a member of the Pawnee 
Rock Christian Church for many years, and served for a time as church 
treasurer.

In 2020, they moved to La Crosse, KS. which became her home until an 
injury in 2022 hospitalized her, from which she never fully recovered. 
Her health related to her Friedreich’s Ataxia continued to decline until
 she passed away peacefully on July 8, 2022, at 7:45 pm at Holiday Resort
 Health and Rehab nursing home in Salina, KS.

Diane is preceded in death by her father Robert Dunavan, and her 
younger brother Michael Dunavan. She is succeeded by her mother Janice 
Dunavan, husband Jeff Gibson, children Ian Gibson and Chloe “CJ” Gibson,
 brother Brian and his wife Karen Dunavan, and numerous nieces and 
nephews.

Graveside service will be 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at 
Pawnee Rock Cemetery, Pawnee Rock, KS with Pastor John Thomas presiding.
 Visitation will be 9:00 am to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at

When it came to this man you didn’t have to talk about acts of kindness – he was kindness. Jay was a man who treated others with respect and dignity. He loved his wife Jane for 47 years and was proud of and raised his children Shelley (husband Matt and grandchildren Grace and Jace – Overland Park), and Adam and Aaron (Lyons) to be honest and hard working. He was a private man who didn’t share his sorrows but was there to support others through theirs. He didn’t need the approval of others. He had the approval of his family and his God. His was a life well lived. This life is over. 

The next life has begun. Love never ends. Love you Jay/dad – your family. 

Jay is also survived by two sisters, Linda Hammersmith and Lona Werth (Hays). As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

There will be no public viewing. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please give your donation directly to a charity of your choice. To the Sterling Literary Club – still “gotta a little somethin’ here.”

Kristy Kay “Kris” Gawith, 60, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Kris was born January 21, 1962, in Norton, Kansas, the daughter of 
William “Bill” and Charlotte (Harold) Nelson.&nbsp; She was a resident of La 
Crosse, Kansas, for three years moving there from Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; A 1980 
graduate of Prairie Heights High School, Jennings, Kansas, she was a 
homemaker.

Kris had the “need for speed”.&nbsp; As a young girl she loved running 
fast and riding her bicycle very fast.&nbsp; So fast, her hair would fly out 
behind her.&nbsp; She wasn’t a slow driver either.&nbsp; She loved driving her 
truck fast.

On November 28, 1981, she married William Dean “Bill” Gawith, at 
Jennings, Kansas.&nbsp; Kris’ inherent love of her animals was the one 
condition of their marriage.&nbsp; If she couldn’t keep her animals, there 
was not going to be a marriage.

She loved raising registered Appaloosa horses.&nbsp; Kris’ first horse was
 Diamond Chris.&nbsp; Kris raised Diamond Echo, a foal of Diamond Chris, to 
rear on cue.

At a family dinner, when Kris and Bill announced Kris was expecting, 
the family assumed they meant Diamond Chris.&nbsp; The news didn’t seem to 
excite anyone, but after explaining it was Kris expecting, and not her 
horse expecting, it became quite the family dinner, which became an 
awesome memory!

Survivors include:&nbsp; her husband, Bill Gawith, La Crosse, Kansas; one 
son, Brad Gawith (Wendy), Rozel, Kansas; two grandsons, Thomas Gawith 
and Kegan Gawith; and her mother, Charlotte Nelson, Jennings, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her father, and an infant brother, Ricky Nelson.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 10, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Michael Earnest Walker, 75, passed away July 5, 2022, at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital, Larned, KS.

He was born December 4, 1946, in Fresno, Calif., the son of William Henry 
and Irma Sue (Barnes) Bauer.&nbsp; He moved to Larned in 2009 from 
Albuquerque, New Mexico, and was a farm hand and mechanic for many years.

He was of the Seventh Day Adventist Faith and loved doing 
mechanic work.&nbsp; Michael enjoyed anything cowboy, collecting cowboy 
memorabilia and loved John Wayne.&nbsp; He was a quick draw artist and had a 
contest against Sammy Davis Jr.

Survivors include: two sons, Michael C. Walker, Larned, Robert Eugene
 Walker; daughter, Christina Nichole Walker, Globe, AZ; two brothers, 
William Henry Bauer, Nevada, Norman Bauer, Sacramento, CA; two sister, 
Daisy Martin-Stephens and Beverly Bauer, both of Sacramento, CA; three 
grandchildren, Cyler Michael Walker, Jasmine Ruth Regna and Robert 
Joseph Nock.

Cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time.

Ersa L. Keenan, 81, passed away July 7, 2022, at Brookdale East in 
Wichita. She was born on April 5, 1941, in Great Bend to Frank &amp; 
Ersa (Cross) Koelsch. She married Johnny R. Keenan on May 23, 1966, in 
Great Bend.&nbsp; He died March 5, 2015.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Ersa was an insurance clerk for 
several doctors in town including, Dr. Cavanaugh, Dr. Holt and Dr. 
Schuetz. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick 
Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Ersa was an avid golfer and 
baseball fan, she also enjoyed watching her Kansas City Chiefs.

Survivors include, a son, Mike S. Keenan of Manhattan; two brothers, 
Frank Koelsch of Ellinwood and James Koelsch and wife Nora of 
Clearwater. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, 
Johnny R. Keenan; and an infant brother, Vaughn Koelsch.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, July 10, 2022
 at Bryant Funeral Home, with Altar Society rosary at 4:00 p.m., and a 
Vigil service with rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will 
follow at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Father Prakash
 Kola presiding. A private family burial will take place prior to the 
Mass. 

Memorials have been designated to the Alzheimer’s Association (to

Ersa L. Keenan

Damian Isaac Mendez life began April 8, 2004, in Dodge City, Kansas.&nbsp; 
He tragically passed on July 3rd, 2022, due to complications with heat 
stroke.&nbsp; He began his education at Linn Elementary School.&nbsp; At the young
 age of 6, he developed an interest in wrestling that later turned into a
 passion.&nbsp; He started his wrestling journey with the Dodge City 
Wranglers.&nbsp; Damian competed in all types of wrestling, folk style, free 
style, and greco.&nbsp; He had dreams of being a NCAA National Champion. His 
pursuit towards a goal of becoming a professional MMA athlete and 
Olympic Gold Medalist was his next&nbsp; adventure.&nbsp; Damian continued his 
wrestling career at Dodge City High, where he was a three time state 
champion.&nbsp; He graduated in May of 2022 and had signed a letter of intent
 to wrestle at North Dakota State University.

Damian was a hard working individual.&nbsp; He knew he had to put in the 
time and dedication to achieve his goals.&nbsp; This determination led him to
 a NHSCA National Championship and multiple All-American titles.&nbsp; Damian
 currently holds the Kansas record for most takedowns in a season.&nbsp; He 
used wrestling to impact the lives of anyone he came into contact with.&nbsp;
 His passion, smile and joy were contagious.&nbsp; He was an inspiration to 
his brothers, teammates and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;

He is survived by his parents, Sabas and Lizette of Dodge City; two 
brothers, Armando and Adriel Garcia of Dodge City; grandparents, Leticia
 Flores of Dodge City, Armando Garcia, Elva Espino, and Jose Leos 
Ruvalcaba all of Mexico; aunts and uncles, Michelle Naumann of 
Greensburg, Vanessa Olvera of Dodge City, Daisy Flores-Leos of Dodge 
City; Alexis “Bibi” Leos of Garden City, Gerardo and Adriana Garcia of 
Garden City, Maria Garcia and Cesar Hermosillo, Marcela Garcia and Eder 
Aleman, and Karla Garcia all of Mexico.&nbsp; Damian is preceded in death by 
his grandfather, Reyes Mendez and an aunt, Consuelo Garcia.

 </figure>Damian Isaac Mendez life began April 8, 2004, in Dodge City, Kansas.&nbsp; 
He tragically passed on July 3rd, 2022, due to complications with heat 
stroke.&nbsp; He began his education at Linn Elementary School.&nbsp; At the young
 age of 6, he developed an interest in wrestling that later turned into a
 passion.&nbsp; He started his wrestling journey with the Dodge City 
Wranglers.&nbsp; Damian competed in all types of wrestling, folk style, free 
style, and greco.&nbsp; He had dreams of being a NCAA National Champion. His 
pursuit towards a goal of becoming a professional MMA athlete and 
Olympic Gold Medalist was his next&nbsp; adventure.&nbsp; Damian continued his 
wrestling career at Dodge City High, where he was a three time state 
champion.&nbsp; He graduated in May of 2022 and had signed a letter of intent
 to wrestle at North Dakota State University.Damian was a hard working individual.&nbsp; He knew he had to put in the 
time and dedication to achieve his goals.&nbsp; This determination led him to
 a NHSCA National Championship and multiple All-American titles.&nbsp; Damian
 currently holds the Kansas record for most takedowns in a season.&nbsp; He 
used wrestling to impact the lives of anyone he came into contact with.&nbsp;
 His passion, smile and joy were contagious.&nbsp; He was an inspiration to 
his brothers, teammates and friends.&nbsp;&nbsp;He is survived by his parents, Sabas and Lizette of Dodge City; two 
brothers, Armando and Adriel Garcia of Dodge City; grandparents, Leticia
 Flores of Dodge City, Armando Garcia, Elva Espino, and Jose Leos 
Ruvalcaba all of Mexico; aunts and uncles, Michelle Naumann of 
Greensburg, Vanessa Olvera of Dodge City, Daisy Flores-Leos of Dodge 
City; Alexis “Bibi” Leos of Garden City, Gerardo and Adriana Garcia of

Roger Keith Gore, 94, passed away July 6, 2022, at Diversicare of Larned.

He was born August 16, 1927, in Paris, KY, the son of Chester Erasmes 
and Hazel Ellen Puterbaugh Gore.&nbsp; A lifetime area resident, he was a 
farmer and stockman.

He was a member of the First Christian Church disciples of Christ, 
Great Bend, Walter S. Chears American Legion Post # 106, volunteer for 
living history at Fort Larned National Historic Site and also the Santa 
Fe Trail Center. Roger was a past Sanford school board member and served
 in the United States Army.

On January 10, 1951, he married Thelma Arlene (Peggy) Flanders in Great Bend.&nbsp; She passed away September 27, 2007.

Survivors include: two sons, Wayne (Cynthia) Gore, Pawnee Rock, 
Michael (Betsy) Gore, Larned; daughter, Karen Gore, Larned; five 
grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Stanly Gore; daughter, Jeanette 
Gore; brother, Hollis Gore and three sisters, Laura Alice Gore, Virginia
 Sielert and Evelyn Weisensee.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2022, at Beckwith

Rita Jan Hartman, of Hays, Kansas, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi-St Francis Hospital, Wichita. She was born October 11, 1955, in Oakley, Kansas, to James Harley and Mildred Elaine (Eiring) Briard. Rita married Cliff Jamison in 1974 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Studly Kansas; they had 3 children Cherie, Kris, and Jackie.&nbsp;&nbsp;They later divorced, and he preceded her in death in February 2019.&nbsp;&nbsp;She later met and married Ray Hartman, who also preceded her in death in May 2021.

Rita was a giving soul who enjoyed sharing her talents and gifts with her friends and family.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a licensed CNA and CMA and worked for many years as a Senior Companion and for the Good Samaritan Society.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a lover of animals and a hobby of hers was microbiology and using her microscope.

She is survived by her daughters: Cherie Pfannenstiel and husband Eric of Munjor, Kansas; Jackie Diaz and husband Elias of Farmington, New Mexico; a son: Kris Jamison and fiancé&nbsp;Krista Tice, Hutchinson, Kansas; stepdaughter: Erica Rae Towne of Hays, Kansas; sisters: Monica Porter of Hays, Kansas; and Roxie Skeers and husband Ed of Oakley, Kansas; grandchildren: Dawson Jamison, Tobias Diaz, Tavius Diaz, Payton and Parker Barnes, and a step grandson: Matthew Towne of Hays.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was preceded by her parents; a sister: Joyce Skeers; and her husband: Ray.

A celebration of life for Rita, Ray and Ray’s sister Alice Hartman will be held on Friday, Aug. 12th, from 4:30-7:30 PM at the Hays VFW.&nbsp;&nbsp;A private joint inurnment of Ray and Rita will be held in the Oakley Cemetery that morning.&nbsp;

Hospital in Garden City, Kansas on July 5, 2022. He was born to Carl O. 
and Gladys M Goodwin Holcomb on May 4, 1947, in Cheyenne Wells, 
Colorado. His family soon moved to Wallace County, and he considered 
himself a lifelong resident. He was a farmer and rancher until he 
retired. He was always excited to attend auctions with his brother Glen.

Ronald was a member of the Christian faith and found great comfort 
and joy in attending services at the Assembly of God church in Tribune, 
Kansas.

Survivors include one sister, Alice &amp; Dan Cutright of Sharon 
Springs, many nieces and nephews and close friends, Curtis and Koreen 
Woods of Tribune, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Gerald and Glen, and one niece, Melinda Cutright Stephens.

Graveside services will be held at the Sharon Springs Cemetery on

Ronald Joseph Holcomb

Jean Hayes Sharkey, age 93, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at 
Greeley County Long-Term Care Center in Tribune.&nbsp; He was born in 
Kremlin, Oklahoma on December 29, 1928, to Ora William and Ruby Edith 
Sharkey. He grew up on a farm NW of Enid, OK. The family raised 
watermelons and a few other crops. Jean attended and graduated Hillsdale
 School in 1947. He then went on to attend Stillwater A &amp; M in 
Stillwater, Oklahoma and studied metallurgy.

In 1951, he enlisted in the Air Force and was assigned to Tinker AF 
Base as an Air Traffic Controller in Enid, OK. He met his wife Marion 
Asper, through friends. They were married on January 31, 1953, in 
Anthony, KS. Jean worked at Boeing Aircraft, Haliburton Oil, and other 
companies before finding his way back to farming.

He farmed land in Scott County, Wichita County, and Sheridan Lake, 
Colorado and finally settling in Weskan in 1979 to farm on the 
Wallace/Greeley County line. He farmed this area for close to 40 years 
before selling out to retire. Retirement must not have suited him 
because he then bought an 18-wheeler and drove over the road for W-Bar 
7. After full retirement and the death of his wife, Marion he enjoyed 
drinking coffee and gabbing with the men-folk and watching old westerns.

He was a member of the Weskan Baptist/Bible Church, Masonic Blue Lodge in Anthony, Kansas.

Jean Hayes Sharkey

Angel Grace was born July 21, 1978, in Kansas City, Kansas.
 At a very young age, Angel and 3 other siblings were placed in 
foster care homes. The placement of 2 sisters was unknown to her, but 
she fought to keep in contact with her baby brother Christopher Duane. 
They were kept apart in separate foster homes, so Angel would run away, 
seeking her brother to make sure he was okay. After running away 
multiple times, a judge finally decided that these 2 siblings would be 
placed no more than 20 miles apart and be allowed to see each other. 
Christopher was her whole world and they shared a very special bond that
 will continue on forever.
 Angel moved between foster homes before coming to live with Derbin 
and Sue Barnes in Phillipsburg, Kansas, in 1987, along with her little 
brother Christopher. Angel was 9 and Christopher was 3. They were to be 
adopted together and officially took the last name Barnes in 1989. This 
period in life would later drive Angel’s desire to become a foster 
parent.
 Her love and passion for KU Basketball and collecting shoes began at
 a young age. Throughout her school years, Angel was happy and outgoing,
 active in athletics, music, band, and drama. In grade school, she 
befriended Crystal Dawn Stacy, and then in high school Heather Hansen. 
These 3 would become lifelong friends. Angel graduated from Phillipsburg
 High School in 1997. After high school, she attended Bethel College at 
Newton. Here she met and befriended Alycee Gullino, who would also 
become a lifelong friend. 
 Angel was a protective and mothering friend, once cautioning Alycee 
and another common friend against meeting a stranger they had found 
online. He wanted to take the girls to see a band, and she worried he 
might be a “crazed psycho."&nbsp; After they were back safely, and no harm 
was done, they came to find out that this “crazed psycho” was actually a
 mutual friend that Angel knew from back home. In fact, he was the local
 pizza delivery guy, so her father Derbin already approved. He would 
later become her husband.
 Angel’s educational goals then took her to Colby Community College, 
where she studied for only a semester before moving to Manhattan to be 
nearer to her growing love, Jr Rice. The couple moved back to Kensington
 and were united in marriage on July 10, 1999, at the United Church. With
 this union, Angel gained Steve and JoAnn Rice as another set of 
parents, and a new sister Staci. Yet, something was missing.
 Searching for her Biological family, especially her 2 lost sisters, 
became a special goal for Angel. Shortly after they married, Angel 
managed to contact and reunite with long lost sister Sarah Fleming 
Gleaton. It was very important for Angel to find this missing piece of 
her family and her heart. They have stayed in touch ever since.
 Caring for and helping others was always something Angel felt called
 to do. And so, Jr and Angel were foster parents for several years. 
They influenced numerous youth who entered their home. During this time,
 Angel also worked as a CNA and med aide for various nursing homes, 
hospitals, and agencies. Each patient and resident she came in contact 
with was important and loved. She made a difference and made every 
person feel special. Many patients would say she gave the very best care
 they’d ever received. She loved them like family, but there was still 
something missing. Something Angel wanted more than anything was to 
become a mother, but was told by doctors that she may never be able to.
 Angel had occasionally commented about wanting a redheaded child with freckles. 
 Jr and Angel were truly blessed when Kristal Ann Marie was born 
December 27, 2003. Angel decided to be a stay at home mother. After a 
period of time, she returned to work part-time at the Country Corner. 
She worked there until they were again blessed when Gracie Lynn Nicole 
joined the family on December 5, 2007. Angel was thrilled to finally 
have one little girl with freckles and one with red hair. 
 She later went back to work as a traveling CNA, working in various 
towns, until she began struggling with thyroid issues. She made the 
decision to have her thyroid destroyed, then went to work at the Love’s 
Travel Stop in Phillipsburg. Following this, she did return to CNA work 
at the hospital in Smith Center where she worked for about 2 years.
 Then, the opportunity arose and Angel was accepted to do a job she 
had long dreamed of doing. Clara Barton had always been her hero and 
role model. Working for the American Red Cross would become a reality. 
Though COVID made things difficult, and she struggled through the 
shutdown and restrictions to complete her training, she did so 
successfully. Based out of Hays, she traveled with the Red Cross 
providing blood drives in Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma and even the 
panhandle of Texas. In January of 2022, she transferred to Grand Island 
and traveled throughout Nebraska doing Power Reds and was looking 
forward to the next stage, training in plasma. She would regularly come 
home with all the needle caps she had saved, holding out a handful to 
show her family saying “Every one of these was 3 lives saved,” with a 
gigantic smile on her face. She was finally doing the job she felt 
called to do, that left her with a great sense of fulfillment. She 
served the American Red Cross for a year and a half, helping save 
numerous lives. 
 Special Memories…….
 Angel loved and adored her 2 daughters, Kristal Ann (her “little 
ladybug”) and Gracie Lynn (her “little dragonfly”), more than anything 
in this world. She would always take her girls' side in all playful 
arguments with their father, just so he had 3 girls to outnumber him (or
 just for spite). She loved taking her girls to thrift stores, doing 
their hair, painting their nails, and binge watching Disney movies. 
Angel also thoroughly enjoyed watching Gracie engaged in sassy banter 
with Jr, always prepared with witty comebacks, and the relationship 
these two have. Although she despised having her photo taken, she did 
not hesitate in taking pictures with her daughters. She also overcame 
her anxiety of crowds to support her girls and attend all the school 
functions and events possible.
 She could not contain her laughter when someone mentioned the word 
“Chair” due to witnessing Jr breaking 3 of them when sitting. Jr and 
Angel made it a special point to have date nights together. They enjoyed
 their trips out of town, whether for shopping or doctor's visits, they 
valued this time together. While she was away for work, Angel would call
 Jr everyday to have someone to talk to while she was driving and would 
have him track her GPS location in case she ever got lost. (This may 
have happened once or twice.) He was her “Superman” who took care of 
things at home, kept her on track, supported her, and in most needed 
times, be her “emotional support human." Jr took great pleasure in making Angel’s special requests come true.
 Such as taking her to see George Strait, Jeff Dunham, and watching KU 
in-person at Allen Fieldhouse on a couple occasions. 
 Angel also cherished holding the title “coolest aunt” to all of her 
nephews and niece: Jacob, Zach, Levi, and Lucas Barnes; Spencer, Tyler, 
Lyndzie, Jordan, and James Kearn, and Cory Chippeaux. Her extra siblings
 through marriage, Ricky Kearn and Erica Barnes, thought she was pretty 
amazing too, and she valued her time spent with them.
 Angel loved her animals and ducks dearly. 2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 ducks (that count as one), and tooooooo many cats!
 She treasured her other best friend Charlie, a 2001 Mustang 
convertible that has been wrecked and revived multiple times, ending 
with a beloved custom paint job of glitter and butterfly seat covers. 
She enjoyed watching conspiracy theory and ghost hunting shows, and of 
course KU basketball, especially during tournament time. It was at your 
own risk to go within 10 feet of her during tournament games, because 
she REALLY got into the game and you could inadvertently get clobbered 
or go deaf from her yelling and punching at the table. She ALMOST ruined
 Jr’s new TV when he caught her taking a swing at it during a KU/K-State
 game.
 Angel enjoyed taking friends, like Brandi Cantrall, or her girls, on
 quick trips to Sonic or those infamous midnight Love’s runs. Her Friday
 night nachos from the Rusty Tractor became a ritual.
 She made instant friends wherever she went, with many becoming more 
like family, be it at work or play; including the rodeo, where she first
 met Shannon Vales, her husband Randy and daughter Jordyn. Shannon and 
her sister Stacey Hoskins became more like sisters to Angel, and Jordyn,
 another daughter. She cherished her gal pal times attending concerts, 
going on trips, or holding backyard bonfires and hanging out with 
friends listening to music. She enjoyed pedicure dates and going to see 
Tom Petty with Jennifer Elson. Her most recent concert was the New Kids 
On the Block with Jennifer Lee, Stacy Hoskins and Cindy Garey. On her 
weekends off, if she wasn’t home with her husband and girls, you were 
likely to find her next door with her kindred spirit Melinda.
 Her heart was so big that she never turned anyone away in need of 
help, which resulted in opening their home to several friends, lending 
vehicles or a bed to those in need. After a dear friend's passing, Angel
 took her daughter Stephanie under her wing, and loved her like her own,
 becoming her 3rd daughter. She even worked nearly every holiday so that
 co-workers could be home with their families. 
 She was not afraid to be quirky, a bit strange, or that person who 
runs to the store wearing her Eeyore pajamas. Always young at heart, she
 was often the life of the party with her cheerful and contagious 
spirit. 
 Over the years, Angel struggled past several medical setbacks with 
the most recent one being thickened heart walls. This forced her to slow
 down, not being able to do as much as she would normally. Regardless, 
the interactions and care given to any of her patients and co-workers 
were 2nd to none. She loved her job, she loved her family, and she loved
 living. She cherished living her life to the fullest, but she had 
always said that she would never grow old.
 Angel was truly a blessing and an inspiration to anyone she came 
into contact with. We could go on and on trying to convey how much 
everyone meant to her, and how much SHE meant to others. She will be 
missed dearly by all and she truly loved all of you.&nbsp;

 </figure>Angel Grace was born July 21, 1978, in Kansas City, Kansas.
 At a very young age, Angel and 3 other siblings were placed in 
foster care homes. The placement of 2 sisters was unknown to her, but 
she fought to keep in contact with her baby brother Christopher Duane. 
They were kept apart in separate foster homes, so Angel would run away, 
seeking her brother to make sure he was okay. After running away 
multiple times, a judge finally decided that these 2 siblings would be 
placed no more than 20 miles apart and be allowed to see each other. 
Christopher was her whole world and they shared a very special bond that
 will continue on forever.
 Angel moved between foster homes before coming to live with Derbin 
and Sue Barnes in Phillipsburg, Kansas, in 1987, along with her little 
brother Christopher. Angel was 9 and Christopher was 3. They were to be 
adopted together and officially took the last name Barnes in 1989. This 
period in life would later drive Angel’s desire to become a foster 
parent.
 Her love and passion for KU Basketball and collecting shoes began at
 a young age. Throughout her school years, Angel was happy and outgoing,
 active in athletics, music, band, and drama. In grade school, she 
befriended Crystal Dawn Stacy, and then in high school Heather Hansen. 
These 3 would become lifelong friends. Angel graduated from Phillipsburg
 High School in 1997. After high school, she attended Bethel College at 
Newton. Here she met and befriended Alycee Gullino, who would also 
become a lifelong friend. 
 Angel was a protective and mothering friend, once cautioning Alycee 
and another common friend against meeting a stranger they had found 
online. He wanted to take the girls to see a band, and she worried he 
might be a “crazed psycho."&nbsp; After they were back safely, and no harm 
was done, they came to find out that this “crazed psycho” was actually a
 mutual friend that Angel knew from back home. In fact, he was the local
 pizza delivery guy, so her father Derbin already approved. He would 
later become her husband.
 Angel’s educational goals then took her to Colby Community College, 
where she studied for only a semester before moving to Manhattan to be 
nearer to her growing love, Jr Rice. The couple moved back to Kensington
 and were united in marriage on July 10, 1999, at the United Church. With
 this union, Angel gained Steve and JoAnn Rice as another set of 
parents, and a new sister Staci. Yet, something was missing.
 Searching for her Biological family, especially her 2 lost sisters, 
became a special goal for Angel. Shortly after they married, Angel 
managed to contact and reunite with long lost sister Sarah Fleming 
Gleaton. It was very important for Angel to find this missing piece of 
her family and her heart. They have stayed in touch ever since.
 Caring for and helping others was always something Angel felt called
 to do. And so, Jr and Angel were foster parents for several years. 
They influenced numerous youth who entered their home. During this time,
 Angel also worked as a CNA and med aide for various nursing homes, 
hospitals, and agencies. Each patient and resident she came in contact 
with was important and loved. She made a difference and made every 
person feel special. Many patients would say she gave the very best care
 they’d ever received. She loved them like family, but there was still 
something missing. Something Angel wanted more than anything was to 
become a mother, but was told by doctors that she may never be able to.
 Angel had occasionally commented about wanting a redheaded child with freckles. 
 Jr and Angel were truly blessed when Kristal Ann Marie was born 
December 27, 2003. Angel decided to be a stay at home mother. After a 
period of time, she returned to work part-time at the Country Corner. 
She worked there until they were again blessed when Gracie Lynn Nicole 
joined the family on December 5, 2007. Angel was thrilled to finally 
have one little girl with freckles and one with red hair. 
 She later went back to work as a traveling CNA, working in various 
towns, until she began struggling with thyroid issues. She made the 
decision to have her thyroid destroyed, then went to work at the Love’s 
Travel Stop in Phillipsburg. Following this, she did return to CNA work 
at the hospital in Smith Center where she worked for about 2 years.
 Then, the opportunity arose and Angel was accepted to do a job she 
had long dreamed of doing. Clara Barton had always been her hero and 
role model. Working for the American Red Cross would become a reality.

Mary “Suzie” Kathleen Proctor, formerly of Hays, Kansas, passed on June 25, 2022, at Wilson Care and Rehab, Wilson, Kansas. She was born January 17, 1949, to Daniel Pfeifer and Teresa (Casey) Pfeifer. She attended Marian High School and Shenango Valley School of Business. She was married to Richard “Butch” Proctor, and to that union four children were born.

Mary loved her family and the addition of grandkids and great grandkids over the years. Mary will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a great Woman, Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma, Cousin, and friend to many!

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She is survived by her son, Richard (Michele) Proctor, Mooresville, NC; her daughters Melissa Proctor (Loran Pfeifer), Hays, KS;&nbsp; Deana (Aaron) Acheson, Russell, KS; and Shannon Proctor, Hays, KS; 12 grandchildren, Derrick Proctor, (Fiancé Shelby Shore); Damian Proctor and Kailey Proctor, all of North Carolina; Brittany Proctor, Kansas; Brook Proctor (Keller Lofgren) Colorado; Bo Neely, Kansas; Hadynn Proctor, Kansas; Kaidyn Proctor, Colorado; Braidyn Proctor, Kansas; Jadynn Proctor, Oregon; Joleigh and Calvin Acheson, Kansas, and her two great grandchildren, Kashawn &amp; Kamryn Proctor, Kansas.

Garland Maurice Scott, 85, of Hill City, Kansas died July 4, 2022. He 
was the son of Dale and Margaret Scott. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; four brothers, and one sister.

Garland Maurice Scott

Raymond Jeffrey Lee was born May 18, 1964, to the union of Percy and Olivia Lee in Detroit, Michigan.&nbsp;He passed away on June 16, 2022, at the age of 58.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his mother Olivia and brother Anthony.

Raymond, affectionately known as Sugar Ray, received his high school education at the University of Detroit Jesuit Academy&nbsp;in Detroit, Michigan&nbsp;where he was&nbsp;an&nbsp;all-state&nbsp;selection&nbsp;in basketball in 1982. &nbsp;Ray proceeded to attend Fort Hays State U<a></a>niversity from 1982 to 1986.&nbsp;He helped lead Fort Hays State University to&nbsp;two&nbsp;NAIA&nbsp;National Championships&nbsp;in 1983-84 and 1984-85&nbsp;and three conference championships over&nbsp;his&nbsp;four years&nbsp;on the court.&nbsp;Ray&nbsp;is the only three-time All-America selection in the history of the storied Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball program&nbsp;and was a first-team selection in 1985.&nbsp;He was a four-time all-conference selection and was the Central States Intercollegiate Conference Freshman of the Year in 1983.&nbsp;He played the most games of any player in FHSU Men’s Basketball history, taking the court 145 times. He still holds the FHSU career assists record with 899 and his 1,615 points ranked second best at the completion of his career.&nbsp;Ray was&nbsp;also&nbsp;inducted into the FHSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.&nbsp;After college Ray worked several years for Chrysler Corporation.&nbsp;He also worked for American Airlines in Kansas City and was an Independent Contractor for Horizon Transport.&nbsp;

Ray met the love of his life Marci Merchant in 1990 and married on December 23rd, 1996. &nbsp;Marci had a son Henri whom Ray helped guide to become&nbsp;a successful young man. &nbsp;Marci and Ray added to their family in April of 1993 with the birth of&nbsp;Rayci&nbsp;and Raymond Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ray was a very proud father of all his children. &nbsp;He also took his athletic talents and knowledge into coaching youth in the KC area. &nbsp;Ray coached youth basketball and soccer. &nbsp;His oldest son Henri and wife Alexis gave him&nbsp;three&nbsp;grandchildren. &nbsp;He loved being a grandfather. &nbsp;He also was a fun loving and competitive individual. &nbsp;He loved music and being with family and friends. &nbsp;Ray would talk&nbsp;your ear off if you gave him one. Ray was a friend to everyone he met. &nbsp;His smile was contagious. &nbsp;One of Ray’s greatest memories was being a card member of the Midnight Funk Association. &nbsp;

 </figure>Raymond Jeffrey Lee was born May 18, 1964, to the union of Percy and Olivia Lee in Detroit, Michigan.&nbsp;He passed away on June 16, 2022, at the age of 58.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his mother Olivia and brother Anthony.Raymond, affectionately known as Sugar Ray, received his high school education at the University of Detroit Jesuit Academy&nbsp;in Detroit, Michigan&nbsp;where he was&nbsp;an&nbsp;all-state&nbsp;selection&nbsp;in basketball in 1982. &nbsp;Ray proceeded to attend Fort Hays State U<a></a>niversity from 1982 to 1986.&nbsp;He helped lead Fort Hays State University to&nbsp;two&nbsp;NAIA&nbsp;National Championships&nbsp;in 1983-84 and 1984-85&nbsp;and three conference championships over&nbsp;his&nbsp;four years&nbsp;on the court.&nbsp;Ray&nbsp;is the only three-time All-America selection in the history of the storied Fort Hays State Men’s Basketball program&nbsp;and was a first-team selection in 1985.&nbsp;He was a four-time all-conference selection and was the Central States Intercollegiate Conference Freshman of the Year in 1983.&nbsp;He played the most games of any player in FHSU Men’s Basketball history, taking the court 145 times. He still holds the FHSU career assists record with 899 and his 1,615 points ranked second best at the completion of his career.&nbsp;Ray was&nbsp;also&nbsp;inducted into the FHSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.&nbsp;After college Ray worked several years for Chrysler Corporation.&nbsp;He also worked for American Airlines in Kansas City and was an Independent Contractor for Horizon Transport.&nbsp;Ray met the love of his life Marci Merchant in 1990 and married on December 23rd, 1996. &nbsp;Marci had a son Henri whom Ray helped guide to become&nbsp;a successful young man. &nbsp;Marci and Ray added to their family in April of 1993 with the birth of&nbsp;Rayci&nbsp;and Raymond Jr.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ray was a very proud father of all his children. &nbsp;He also took his athletic talents and knowledge into coaching youth in the KC area. &nbsp;Ray coached youth basketball and soccer. &nbsp;His oldest son Henri and wife Alexis gave him&nbsp;three&nbsp;grandchildren. &nbsp;He loved being a grandfather. &nbsp;He also was a fun loving and competitive individual. &nbsp;He loved music and being with family and friends. &nbsp;Ray would talk&nbsp;your ear off if you gave him one. Katherine “Kathy” Mary (Kreoger) Lundien of Burlington, CO, passed 
away at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO. She had an intense
 battle with her health for the last six months of her life, shortly 
after her husband (Rich Lundien, the love of her life) passed away in 
December of 2021. Kathy finally went to be with the Lord (and reunited 
with Rich) on July 3, 2022, surrounded by her three daughters by her 
bedside.

Kathy was born in Burlington, CO on March 25, 1949, to William “Bill”
 and Helen (Wilson) Kreoger of Burlington, CO. She grew up on a farm 14 
miles north of Burlington and enjoyed a rural life surrounded by 
extended family, as her father’s side of the family also worked the land
 of her great-grand father, along with their own acquired land. Her 
mother’s side of the family (her Wilson uncles) helped build the house 
on the farm. She enjoyed connections with her aunts, uncles and cousins 
throughout the years and had a special bond with her parents, who 
influenced her in her Christian faith and encouraged her to develop 
youth leadership skills through 4-H, the First Christian Church Youth 
Group, the Theta Rho Girls Club, Rebekahs Club, etc. This civic 
mindedness carried on throughout her adult life.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

Little did Kathy know… that she would live in the same home for a 
majority of her life (about 66 years). She transitioned from being 
merely a daughter, to a wife, to a mother, to a grandmother in the same 
home. This is where Rich &amp; Kathy built a life together. They were 
married for 50 years and did almost everything together, as they were 
best friends. They farmed, ranched, did upholstery, raised children, 
watched grandchildren, traveled, worshiped &amp; served together. &nbsp;

She was a “Jill of All Trades,” as she was a homemaker, substitute 
teacher, seamstress, farmer, rancher, Census worker, special education 
teacher, Title I teacher, case worker, business owner, grant writer, 
Head Start teacher, co-founder of Wee Blew Inn &amp; Dynamic Dimensions,
 etc. &nbsp;

She graduated from Burlington High School (1967) and the University 
of Northern Colorado (1971), with an education degree in Home Economics.
 Soon after her UNC days, she married Rich Lundien and started life in 
Meade, KS, where Rich taught for three years. They then returned to 
Burlington to manage and live on the same farm of her youth, while her 
parents moved to town to pursue other endeavors of service to the 
community.

The First Christian Church of Burlington functioned as another main 
staple in her life, where she enjoyed several of life’s milestones from 
her own dedication and baptism to those of her children and 
grandchildren, to her own marriage and her daughter’s marriage, to her 
parents’, husband’s and own funerals. Over the years, Kathy served as a 
deaconess, board chairman, CWF president and Vacation Bible School 
leader. Kathy &amp; Rich joined the Seekers group (a young adult group) 
that stayed in touch for around 50 years. She had friends for life and 
would help anyone who needed it. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Acts of service continued in the family line, as Kathy lived them out
 in her own life and instilled them in her daughters. Kathy volunteered 
in various capacities at her church through hundreds of funeral dinners,
 the church fair booth, meals for fundraisers, etc. She was a leader in 
her community. Kathy was a 4-H leader and helped to develop numerous 
seamstresses in the county over the years. Last fall, she received a 
Diamond Award for over 40 years of leadership service for Kit Carson 
County 4-H program.&nbsp;

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. When you told her a story 
of one of their antics, or showed her a picture of them, her eyes would 
dance. She relished in assisting them with 4-H projects and helping them
 with homework. Specifically, she enjoyed cooking with Emmery, watching 
Hayden ride his horse and hearing countless Lakelyn stories embellished 
with an extensive vocabulary. She was deeply loved by her family and 
will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her brother Charles Kreoger (Sterling, CO); 
daughters—Katrina Lundien, Annea Lundien, Rylana Woller; son-in-law 
Justin Woller and grandchildren—Hayden, Emmery and Lakelyn, all of 
Burlington, CO; and numerous cousins that she loved dearly.

Doris Eleanor (Corman) Berkley, 93, passed peacefully on April 14, 2022,
 in Vancouver, Washington, near her granddaughter. She was born on lucky
 Friday, July 13, 1928, on a farm just outside of Tescott, Kansas, to 
Winnifred and Swinley Corman. She married Harold Berkley on November 9, 
1947, in Tescott, Kansas. Doris attended Weselyn University, went on to 
work at the bank, and then later started the gift shop at the local Home
 Appliance store. She then went on to work at the gift shop at Komarek 
Jewelry, and throughout her life she frequently recounted her fond 
memories of assisting all of “her” brides while working there. &nbsp; In
 her later years, her attention turned to doting on her grandchildren, 
and great grandchildren. She was a proud member of the First Christian 
Church and enjoyed activities with the joy group and serving others. She
 was also an active member of the Silver Cougars. Perhaps her most proud
 accomplishment later in life was sewing quilts, and hand embroidering 
over 850 pillowcases for the Golden Plains Quilts of Valor, a chapter 
she also helped establish. To date, the organization has awarded over 
860 quilts to local Veterans. Doris was an exceptional 
seamstress and crocheted the most beautiful and intricate afghans. Her 
afghans were highly coveted for not only their craftsmanship but the 
thoughtfulness and unique designs, tailored to the recipient. She was 
also known for her delicious baked goods which she often shared with 
others. Doris was a devoted wife, mother, loving grandmother, 
great-grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed by those who had
 the pleasure of knowing her, as will her abundance of stories. Doris
 was preceded in death by her husband Harold Berkley, her daughter 
Debbie Berkley, her brothers Gene, Evan, and Blaine, and sister 
Margaret. She is survived by her brothers Ted and Pat Corman, and sister
 Mary Louise Werries, her daughter Terri Rous, her grandchildren and 
their spouses Jennifer (Shawn) Zupfer, Sarah (Steven) DeWhitt, and 
Darren (Amber) Rous, and great grandchildren, Mason, Alison, Rogan, 
Bennet and Colson. In her honor, memorial contributions can be 
made to the Golden Plains Quilts of Valor and the First Christian Church
 of Great Bend. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, July 
13, 2022, at 11am, at the First Christian Church of Great Bend, KS 
followed by a light luncheon and fellowship.

James Edward “Jim” Marshall, 98, Topeka, passed away June 26, 2022.&nbsp; 
He was born August 25, 1923, the youngest of seven children, at the 
family farm north of Reading, KS in Osage County. The son of James “Art”
 and Mary Frances (Boisson) Marshall. 

Jim graduated from Reading High 
School in 1941, University of Kansas in 1948 and had received M.S. 
Degree from Fort Hays State University in 1956 and Doctor of Education 
Degree from University of Kansas in 1994.&nbsp; He was employed as the 
Superintendent at the St. Francis Boys Homes in Ellsworth, KS and 
clinical psychologist at the Larned State Hospital, Larned, KS prior to 
working at the Kansas State Department of Education in Topeka. 

He began 
as the Director of Special Education at the Kansas State Department in 
1958 and served in that capacity for 32 years which is a record for the 
longest tenure of any state director. He has received many awards 
including: First Distinguished Service Award by the U.S. Office of 
Special Education and Rehabilitation, &nbsp;served on the Presidential 
Advisory Board during the J.F. Kennedy Administration, Distinguished 
Service Award by state and national Arts for the Handicapped 
organizations, Outstanding Education Administrator of the Year by the 
Kansas Association of Education Office Personnel, Exchange Administrator
 in United Kingdom (Wales), Governor’s Task Force on Mental Health 
Reform and the Award of Excellence by the State Council for Exceptional 
Children. 

He has held national and state offices in various associations
 related to exceptional children. His major accomplishments in special 
education included advancing services for handicapped and gifted 
students toward more appropriate special education, initiating the 
paraprofessional programs in Kansas, initiating a system of Arts for the
 Handicapped, promoting research in special education and leading the 
state’s efforts toward better trained teachers of exceptional children. 


He served in the Army Air Corps in World War II as a B-29 radio operator
 stationed in Saipan, Pacific Theater. &nbsp;While in the Air Corps from 
1943-1945, he flew over 33 combat missions over Japan with his 879th Bomb Squadron of the 499th
 Bomb Group. He received several military honors, including the 
Distinguished Flying Cross. 

He was a member of Second Presbyterian 
Church, University of Kansas Alumni, Delta Chi Alumni and the Topeka 
Rose Society. He was a life-long learner of many pursuits of knowledge.&nbsp;
 Jim was passionate about reciting poetry, writing, public speaking and 
supporting family with their educational goals. He served on several 
church committees including governing boards and was the adult Sunday 
School teacher for many years. He enjoyed cultivating/judging award 
winning roses, Topeka Rose Society, and sharing gardening produce with 
others. He explored history and genealogy while traveling both in the 
U.S. and internationally with his family. &nbsp;

On November 11, 1951, Jim was
 married to Virginia L. Speck in Topeka, KS at the First Presbyterian 
Church. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Marshall, 
parents and siblings. Survivors include a son, Marc Marshall (Janey) Oak
 Grove, MO; daughter, Susan Newman (Frank) Derby, KS; son, Keith 
Marshall, Topeka; and daughter, Laurie Heng (Joe) Wichita, KS; and 
grandchildren Nathan Marshall (Jennie), Rebecca Pyle (Chris), Julian 
Newman, Todd Newman, Tyler Heng, Megan Heng, Ryan Marshall; four great 
grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Davidson Funeral Home on Sunday, July 
10, from 3-5 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, July 11, at Second 
Presbyterian Church, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Round Mound 
Cemetery in Cummings, KS at 2 p.m.&nbsp;

On July 4, 2022, Cody Seever, age 22, joined the great rodeo beyond. 
Cody grew up with a love for the Rodeo world and officially started 
riding bulls about ten years ago. Ever the country boy, Cody loved being
 outdoors and getting dirty. There wasn't a time in his life that Cody 
didn't have his fair share of animals around, professionally and 
personally. Most recently Cody left his Blue Healer companion, Roxy, 
behind to see his family through the loss.

He was born April 5, 2000, in Hoisington, Kansas and attended schools
 in Hoisington. He loved bullriding and hunting and fishing. He also 
enjoyed his time cowboying at the feedlots.

Survivors include: Father - Richard Lamb of Hoisington, Mother - Erin
 Dannebohm (and husband Jon) of Ellinwood, Sisters- Ashley Blair (and 
husband Ben) of Otis and Courtney Seever of Topeka, three nieces: Thea, 
Ella, and Layla and maternal Grandmother: Debby DuBois of Topeka. Cody 
was preceded in death by Paternal Grandmother Charlene Lamb. In addition
 to his immediate family Cody will be missed by his numerous extended 
family members.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation with family from 
6pm-8pm on Thursday July 7, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in 
Hoisington, Kansas.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 8, 2022, at Heartland Community Church, 4907 10th St., Great Bend, Kansas. Burial will follow in Great Bend North Cemetery.

Cody Ryan Seever

Heaven has welcomed its newest angel. After a long battle with cancer, 
Martina (Frank) Roth, 84, passed this July 5th at the Garden Valley 
Retirement Village. 
Martina was born on April 22, 1938, to Joseph and Germaine Frank in 
Marienthal, KS, the last of ten children. Shortly after her birth, her 
family moved to Garden City where Martina attended St. Mary Catholic 
School and Garden City High school. She would go on to attend Salt City 
Business College in Hutchison KS. On a blustery day in January 1959, 
Martina married Edward Roth, the love of her life, and together they 
began a loving partnership that would span sixty-three years. 
After the honeymoon, Martina and Edward settled northwest of Holcomb and
 started farming. They also started their family which would grow to 
four sons. Although her boys were always the priority, Martina ensured 
the farm was always running smoothly while keeping the books, running 
parts, and feeding field crews. Given all of that, Martina still found 
time for her hobbies. She loved playing the guitar and singing in the 
choir. She also enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and baking. 
When it came to passion, Martina’s was family. She enjoyed catching up 
on the latest gossip with her sisters and sisters-in-law. She loved 
hosting large family gatherings around the holidays where her motto was 
“there could never be too many pies." But her true calling came with her
 grandchildren. With the birth of her first grandchild, Rachelle, her 
heart grew to twice its size. Martina’s door was always open to her 
grandchildren, who were welcomed with lots of hugs, a snack or two, and 
caring conversation. 
Martina was preceded in death by her son Mark, her parents, and siblings
 Gilbert, Louise, Lenora, Anna Marie, Edward, and Herman. She is 
survived by her husband Edward, three sons – Chris, Bryan (Lyn), Dwane 
(Kim), seven grandchildren – Rachelle (Jeff) Conway, Zachary (MiKayla), 
Zion (Hannah), Zevin, Zoe (Brady) Merz, Margaret, Grace, three 
great-grandchildren – Jasmine, Luke, and Elia, and sisters – Armella, 
Marcella, and Charlotte. 
Vigil Service and Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 
2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be 
held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, also at St. Mary Catholic 
Church with Fr. Jacob Schneider as Celebrant. Burial will follow at 
Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. Friends may call from Noon to 5:00

Martina (Frank) Roth

Howard Eugene Bosley, 83, passed away on May 22, 2022, at Harry Hynes
 Inpatient Unit in Wichita, Kansas. He was born on August 15, 1938, to 
Glenn and Helen (Portenier) Bosley in Haigler, Nebraska. Howard married 
Phyllis Bantam on August 24, 1958, in Orleans, Nebraska. She survives.

Coming from communities in Nebraska and Kansas, Howard was a Great 
Bend resident since the early 1970s. He graduated from Hemingford High 
School as valedictorian in 1956 and the University of Nebraska Lincoln 
in 1961 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, while being a member of 
Sigma Tau and Phi Mu Epsilon. Howard worked as a mechanical engineer and
 management for Canaday Steam Plant, Northern Gas Products, and Northern
 Natural Gas Co., from which he retired in 1993. He was a member of the 
First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend and Ellsworth where he served as
 an elder and deacon, lifetime member of ASME International, member of 
Jaycees, Rotary International, Lions Club, Lake Barton Golf Club, and a 
founding member of First Step Recycling. Howard was an avid golfer and 
Huskers football fan.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Eugene (Cindy) 
Bosley, Robert (Tammy) Bosley, Eric (Jennifer) Bosley; eleven 
grandchildren, Brandon (Bree), Melanie, Chancelor, Layne, Wright, Shane,
 Wynn, Hope, Andrew, Grant, and William Bosley; two step-granddaughters,
 Ashley Smith and Mallory (Austin) Case; and four 
step-great-grandchildren, Emma Stroda, Kade Benedict, Carter Case, 
Apollo Smith.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, 
Christina Bosley Whitley; and a brother and sister-in-law, Leslie 
(Norma) Bosley.

Also surviving are Phyllis’ family members and their respective 
families, who Howard thought of his own; niece, Lynn (Lester) Steffens, 
New Oxford, Pa.; nephew, Kevin Bosley of Lincoln, Neb.; brothers, Ernest
 (Vickie) Bantam, Spearfish, S.D., Tony (Rita) Bantam of Woodbine, Iowa,
 Douglas (Julie) Bantam, Lincoln, Neb., Eddy (Jolene) Bantam of 
Shenandoah, Iowa, and Roger (D) and Jan Bantam of Oxford, Neb.; sisters,
 Nadine (Frank) Condello of Lincoln, Neb., Lela (Craig) Fidler of Grand 
Island, Neb., and Merry (Rick) Jessup of Logan; one brother-in-law Clark
 Hopson of Phillipsburg; and many nieces and nephews and many great 
nieces and nephews.&nbsp; He was preceded in passing by Phyllis’ sister, 
Edith Hopson.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A 
celebration of life will be scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22,
 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Kathleen Luke 
presiding.

Presbyterian Church or Lake Barton Golf Club, in care of Bryant Funeral

Betty Maxine (Sowers) Kirk, 93, formerly of Winona, entered her eternal 
home on Thursday, June 30, 2022. She was born August 2, 1928, in Oakley,
 KS, to Ora and Daisy (Clark) Sowers. 
On May 23, 1948, Maxine married Kenneth Kirk, in Oakley, KS. To this union, 3 children were born. 
Maxine was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed working in her 
flower garden, making homemade noodles for special occasions, 
crocheting, making afgans for her family and playing the piano. She also
 loved her cats and dogs. 
Maxine was a member of the Winona United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the church choir. 
She is survived by her children, Terry (Lanis) Kirk, Sheryl (Michael) 
Kough and Connie (Roger) Kough; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren
 and her sister Shirley Haucschild. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kenneth and granddaughter Ashton Kough.

Lucy Frances Stephens, age 72, of Hays, Kansas, died Monday,&nbsp;July 4, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

She was born March 2, 1950, in Tribune, Kansas, to Arthur Max and Beatrice Euangline (Gale) Stephens.&nbsp;

She grew up and attended school in Syracuse.&nbsp;She lived in Larned and&nbsp;in 1997 Lucy began receiving&nbsp;supports from DSNWK in&nbsp;Colby,&nbsp;before&nbsp;moving to&nbsp;continuing services in&nbsp;Hays in 2000.&nbsp;In 2007, Lucy received a Personal Achievement Award for her progress in independence that she&nbsp;gained throughout the years at DSNWK.&nbsp;She moved into the ladies home&nbsp;“Esther’s Place” in 2011,&nbsp;where she continued to live with her DSNWK family.&nbsp;In 2014, Lucy got a&nbsp;new guardian and she&nbsp;Lucy&nbsp;enjoyed going to Gretchen's (guardian and friend) her house, making&nbsp;her trips to Wal-Mart, going out to eat, socializing with her friends at the Reed Center, traveling with her roommates&nbsp;and cruising garage sales.&nbsp;Lucy's also had a great fondness for finding and trying new recipes.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, and is survived by her DSNWK family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 8, 2022, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd&nbsp;Street, Hays, Kansas 67601 with Rev. Troy Miller officiating. &nbsp;Inurnment will be in Mount Allen Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Lucy Frances Stephens

David Jon Gilgenbach was born June 21, 1966, in Norton, KS to John and 
Dolores (Hillebrand) Gilgenbach. He passed away July 2, 2022, at the age 
of 56.
 Dave grew up in Clayton, KS and graduated from Jennings High School 
in 1984. He always enjoyed working on the farm with his brothers. Dave 
went on to own his own trucks and was an over-the-road truck driver for 
many years. One of the highlights of his trucking career was getting the
 privilege of hauling the Remington statues that are located at the 
Norton Public Library. Most recently, he was working for Ag Valley as a 
truck driver. Dave enjoyed sharing about the places he’d been with his 
family. In his spare time, he enjoyed being on the road, whether it was 
riding his bike or cruising in his Camaro. 
 Dave married Linda Wentling on June 8, 2022, in Norton, KS. He got to
 know the true joys of being a grandfather after getting to spend time 
with Linda’s children and grandchildren. Dave had a very special 
relationship with his nephew, Alec, his wife Sabrina and their two 
girls, and loved spending time with them. He always loved bringing 
smiles to children’s faces. Dave loved spoiling his nieces and nephews 
when they were younger, their children now and his grandchildren, seeing
 how excited they were meant everything to him. 
 He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 
the American Legion Riders of Norton, and the Sons of the American 
Legion of Jennings. 
 Dave was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his 
wife, Linda of Norton, KS; siblings: Linda Scheetz of Norton, KS, Larry 
(Lois) Gilgenbach of Sierra Vista, AZ, Joan (Tim) Dickinson of Salina, 
KS, Pam Davis of Marysville, KS, Bev (Scott) Burd of Burdett, KS, and 
John (Susan) Gilgenbach of Norton, KS, and many other relatives and 
friends. 
 The family has chosen cremation with memorial services to be held at
 a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to
 help with services and may be sent to Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, 215

 </figure>David Jon Gilgenbach was born June 21, 1966, in Norton, KS to John and 
Dolores (Hillebrand) Gilgenbach. He passed away July 2, 2022, at the age 
of 56.
 Dave grew up in Clayton, KS and graduated from Jennings High School 
in 1984. He always enjoyed working on the farm with his brothers. Dave 
went on to own his own trucks and was an over-the-road truck driver for 
many years. One of the highlights of his trucking career was getting the
 privilege of hauling the Remington statues that are located at the 
Norton Public Library. Most recently, he was working for Ag Valley as a 
truck driver. Dave enjoyed sharing about the places he’d been with his 
family. In his spare time, he enjoyed being on the road, whether it was 
riding his bike or cruising in his Camaro. 
 Dave married Linda Wentling on June 8, 2022, in Norton, KS. He got to
 know the true joys of being a grandfather after getting to spend time 
with Linda’s children and grandchildren. Dave had a very special 
relationship with his nephew, Alec, his wife Sabrina and their two 
girls, and loved spending time with them. He always loved bringing 
smiles to children’s faces. Dave loved spoiling his nieces and nephews 
when they were younger, their children now and his grandchildren, seeing
 how excited they were meant everything to him.
