Ruth Elizabeth Draper, 92, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022, in Augusta, Kansas.

Ruth was born on September 20, 1929, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Earl and Somonia (Sanches) Martin.

Ruth was united in marriage to Norman Wise and they built a home in 
Phillipsburg, KS before moving to Augusta. After his passing she was 
then united in marriage to William Draper and shared their years 
together in Augusta. Ruth worked along side her husband Norman as a 
caretakers of the Sante Fe Lake outside of Augusta, as well as working 
for Ballinger's Catering and Lehrs Restaurant. She enjoyed sewing, 
crafts, gardening, shopping, fishing and traveling.

Ruth is survived by her children, Debbie Perry of Tulsa, OK, Nancy 
Fruechting of Preston, KS, Dean (Toni) Williams of Hays, KS; sister, 
Mildred Sandoval of Whittier, CA; grandchildren, Shannon (Kave Inanloo) 
Steinbauer, Joshua Fruechting, Jennifer Fruechting and Zee (Jordan) 
Fruechting; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; and her husbands, Norman 
and William; brothers, Earl Martin, Okie Martin, Wallace Martin, Arthur 
Martin; sisters, Minnie Hickman and Agnes Edmonds.

Visitation will be Friday July 8 from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, July 9th, at 10:00 a.m. both at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta. Burial will follow at the Elmwood cemetery.

The family wishes Memorial Contributions be made out to the American 
Alzheimer’s Association, left in care of the Dunsford Funeral Home.

Jay D. Bloesser, age 82, died July 3, 2022, at Bob Wilson Memorial 
Hospital, Ulysses, Kansas. He was born March 1, 1940, in Kingman, 
Kansas, the son of Lawrence and Sylvia (Brown) Bloesser. 
Jay grew up at Tribune, KS and graduated from Greeley County High 
School, he then attended Salt City Business School in Hutchinson, KS. A 
longtime Ulysses, KS resident, he spent many years working in an auto 
parts store. Jay also worked as a truck driver for Collectia Ltd. After 
retiring he enjoyed being a scale operator at Cactus Feeders. He was an 
avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, enjoyed classic cars, but most of all he 
loved his family and time spent on brothers trips to Colorado and 
playing Wahoo with his grandchildren. 
Jay married Wanda Chilson on June 6, 1959, in Tribune, KS; she survives. 
Other survivors include two sons, Rick Bloesser of Howard, CO, and Rocky
 Bloesser and wife Gaye of Colorado Springs, CO; one daughter, Ronda 
Waechter and husband Troy of Ulysses, KS; two brothers, Brock Bloesser 
of Tennesse and Orville Bloesser of Howard, CO; two sisters, Beverly 
Stewart of Pratt, KS and Janice Lathrope and husband Larry of Lake 
Havasu, AZ; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. 
Jay is preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Bloesser; brother, Larry Bloesser; and grandson, Karlton Waechter. 
Memorial Service will be Monday, July 18, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at Garand

Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis of 
injuries from an oilfield accident.

He was born October 7, 1985, in Hays the
 son of Craig and Chris (Miller) McLaughlin.&nbsp; On July 21, 2012, he was 
united in marriage to Kara Norris.&nbsp; Trevor worked as a roughneck for 
Murfin Drilling Company and was a member of Cornerstone Southern Baptist
 Church.&nbsp; He enjoyed playing guitar, listening to music, and was an avid
 sports fan.&nbsp; Trevor possessed a generous spirit, fun sense of humor, 
and love for babies.&nbsp; Most of all, he loved his children.

Survivors include his parents: Craig 
and Chris McLaughlin of Hays, wife: Kara McLaughlin of Armour, SD, four 
sons: Taj, Kingston, and Kamden McLaughlin, all of Hays and Tai Riot of 
Ellis, a daughter: Kynleigh McLaughlin of Hays, a brother: Trent 
McLaughlin and wife Amber of Ogallah, a sister: Jessie Meyers and 
husband Alex of Aurora, CO, grandparents: Frank and Deanna Miller of

Andy John Hanson, 81, of Herndon, died Sunday, July 3, 2022. He was born
 December 11, 1940, to Clarence and Anne (Henningsen) Hanson. Andy grew 
up on a farm between Atwood and Oberlin that was homesteaded by his 
grandfather John Hanson. He went to Linda Country School until high 
school. Andy graduated from Atwood Community High School in 1959. He 
then went on to attend and graduate from Fort Hays State University. 
Right after graduation, Andy was drafted into the United States Army. He
 was sent to Fort Leonard Wood, in Missouri, then to Germany, where he 
worked in aircraft aviation. After his discharge, he went to work for 
the Kansas Department of Transportation and worked there for 37 years 
before retiring. 
After his retirement, one of Andy’s favorite activities was to go to 
town to dine and have coffee with friends. He also ran the Hanson Family
 Farm, until his health made it necessary to move to the Good Samaritan 
Society, in Atwood. 
Andy was baptized at the old Enne Lutheran Church, that later merged 
with Faith Evangelical Church, in Oberlin. He spent many years serving 
the church in various positions. 
Andy was preceded in death by his parents; brother Edward; niece Deann 
Breen; nephew Michael Thompson and brother-in-law Dennis Horney. 
He leaves to mourn his sisters, Elizabeth Horney, of Wichita, and 
Christina Thompson, of Colby; nieces and nephews, Fonda (John) Mangino, 
Nantick, MA, Troy (Fran) Emigh, Wichita, KS, Lisa (Quinn) Biggs, 
Rockville, MD, Debbie (Mike) Woods, Monument, CO, Brian (Jacque) Hanson,

Andy John Hanson

William "Bill" Wesley Nelson was born September 16, 1942, in Norton County, KS, the son of Harold Wesley and Edna B. (Shelton) Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 79.&nbsp;

Bill grew up in rural Norton County and attended school in Calvert through 8th grade.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then attended Norton school and graduated with the class of 1960.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill planned to attend mechanical school but was called to active duty with the National Guard at Fort Riley, KS.&nbsp;

Bill returned to Norton and worked for Gall Motor Company when he met the love of his life Doris Darlene (Rogers) Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married on January 1, 1964, 6 short months after meeting, and started a life of 58 years together, which included four children, Blake, Blain, Melissa, and Amy.&nbsp;

Bill was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Norton I.O.O.F, American Legion, Jaycees, and the Norton Christian Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also an honorary member of the Eagles Riders.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill made numerous friends throughout his life, and they all held a special place in his heart.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was "Pa" or "grandpa" to many of them.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill retired from Norton County Road and Bridge in 2020.&nbsp;

Bill enjoyed outdoor life, fishing, camping, attending Eagles events, dancing, and watching Chiefs football games so he could call his "grandson", Mark Cleveland afterwards.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was proud of his hard work and honesty.&nbsp;&nbsp;He believed in a handshake and stood by his word.&nbsp;

Bill loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but his greatest love was his sweetheart and wife, "Ma."

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son Blake Nelson, and two&nbsp;brothers-in-law, Richard Rule and Harold Bittel.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Doris Nelson, son Blain Nelson, two daughters, Melissa (Brian) McMullen, and Amy Coffey.&nbsp;&nbsp;One sister Elaine Rule, four sisters-in-law, Donna Bittel, Daloris (Charles) Alexander, and Geraldine (Phillip) Loughry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Six grandchildren, Coady (Breanna) McMullen, Chance (Kaylynn) McMullen, Cristine (Daniel) McClure, Kayla (Jake) Branch, Zach Coffey, and Nathan Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;Five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Tyler, Case, Baylee, and Aria McMullen.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Norton Christian Church, 208 North Kansas Ave., Norton, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;Fellowship will follow after the service at the Norton Eagles Lodge, 16614 Eagles RD, Norton, KS.&nbsp;The family will greet family and friends on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Norton Eagles Lodge.&nbsp;&nbsp;

(Shelton) Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill passed away Friday, July 1, 2022, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 79.&nbsp;Bill grew up in rural Norton County and attended school in Calvert through 8th grade.&nbsp;&nbsp;He then attended Norton school and graduated with the class of 1960.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill planned to attend mechanical school but was called to active duty with the National Guard at Fort Riley, KS.&nbsp;Bill returned to Norton and worked for Gall Motor Company when he met the love of his life Doris Darlene (Rogers) Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;They were married on January 1, 1964, 6 short months after meeting, and started a life of 58 years together, which included four children, Blake, Blain, Melissa, and Amy.&nbsp;Bill was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Norton I.O.O.F, American Legion, Jaycees, and the Norton Christian Church.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was also an honorary member of the Eagles Riders.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill made numerous friends throughout his life, and they all held a special place in his heart.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was "Pa" or "grandpa" to many of them.&nbsp;&nbsp;Bill retired from Norton County Road and Bridge in 2020.&nbsp;Bill enjoyed outdoor life, fishing, camping, attending Eagles events, dancing, and watching Chiefs football games so he could call his "grandson", Mark Cleveland afterwards.&nbsp;&nbsp;He was proud of his hard work and honesty.&nbsp;&nbsp;He believed in a handshake and stood by his word.&nbsp;Bill loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but his greatest love was his sweetheart and wife, "Ma."Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son Blake Nelson, and two&nbsp;brothers-in-law, Richard Rule and Harold Bittel.&nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Doris Nelson, son Blain Nelson, two daughters, Melissa (Brian) McMullen, and Amy Coffey.&nbsp;&nbsp;One sister Elaine Rule, four sisters-in-law, Donna Bittel, Daloris (Charles) Alexander, and Geraldine (Phillip) Loughry.&nbsp;&nbsp;Six grandchildren, Coady (Breanna) McMullen, Chance (Kaylynn) McMullen, Cristine (Daniel) McClure, Kayla (Jake) Branch, Zach Coffey, and Nathan Nelson.&nbsp;&nbsp;Five great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Tyler, Case, Baylee, and Aria McMullen.&nbsp;&nbsp;Many other relatives and friends.&nbsp;Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Norton Christian Church, 208 North Kansas Ave., Norton, KS.&nbsp;&nbsp;Fellowship will follow after the service at the Norton Eagles Lodge, 16614 Eagles RD, Norton, KS.&nbsp;The family will greet family and friends on Friday, July 8, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Norton Eagles Lodge.&nbsp;&nbsp;Memorials may be given to the University of Iowa Diabetes Research and can be sent in care of All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Katherine 'Kathy' Mary (Kreoger) Lundien

Cecilia Ann Schneweis, 92, died July 4, 2022, at Country Place Senior
 Living of Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; She was born September 20, 1929, on the 
family farm in Redwing, Kansas, the daughter of Adolph and Carrie 
(Linsner) Demel. Cecilia graduated from Odin High School in 1947.

On June 1, 1948, she married Raymond A. Schneweis, at Holy Family 
Catholic Church in Odin, Kansas. Together, they farmed and raised eight 
children. Cherishing her time as a homemaker and farm wife, her love was
 shown in her gardening, her many chickens, her exceptional cooking and 
baking, and mostly just her beloved family times together. Ray preceded 
her in death on April 1, 2009.

Cecilia was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and 
was an active member for many years in the Altar Society, first in Odin 
and later in Hoisington.&nbsp;

Survivors include; four sons, Ron Schneweis of Hoisington, Kevin 
Schneweis of Hoisington, Bill Schneweis and wife Kitte of Monument, 
Colorado, Keith Schneweis of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two daughters, 
Lois Ritterhouse and husband Bob of Albert, Kansas, and Mary Sell and 
husband Steve of Olathe; daughter-in-law, Kathy Mai and husband Jay of 
Great Bend; and son-in-law, Kent D. Nettleingham of Galatia; two 
brothers, Jerry Demel and wife Deanna of Westminster, Colorado, and Bill
 Demel of Arvada, Colorado; ten grandchildren; Kent L. Nettleingham and 
wife Trina, Sara Nettleingham-Prince and husband Ed, Brian Schneweis, 
Derek Schneweis and wife Sarah, Brandi McElhoes and husband Jacob, Nick 
Schneweis, Jason Sell, Jessica Cronenwett and husband J.C., Katie 
Schneweis, Mark Burchfiel and wife Pam; seven great grandchildren, 
Landon Burchfiel, Logan Burchfiel, Kendra Smith, Olivia Wright, Parker 
Pinks, Jackson Nettleingham, and Carter Nettleingham; and three 
great-great-grandchildren, Sophia Burchfiel, Remy Burchfiel, and Ivie 
Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Gary 
Schneweis, daughter, Suzy Nettleingham, brother, Jim Demel, and three 
sisters, Evelyn Juno, Eleanor Reif, and Bernadine Moeder.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, with family to greet 
friends from 6 to 8 p.m.&nbsp; Vigil and Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m., all 
at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 7, 2022, 
at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Anselm

Sister Teresita Huse, 103, died July 4, 2022, at the Dominican 
Sisters of Peace motherhouse in Great Bend.&nbsp; She was born July 23, 1918, 
in Kingman, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Clara Marx Huse.&nbsp; She 
entered the Dominican Sisters community in 1933 and pronounced vows in 
1936.&nbsp; In 2021, she celebrated 85 years of religious profession.

Sister Teresita began her ministry as an elementary school teacher, 
serving for sixteen years in Kansas and Oklahoma schools.&nbsp;&nbsp; For the next
 fourteen years she ministered as a high school teacher and college 
professor.&nbsp; A call to pastoral ministry took her to Goodland, Kansas, in
 1970 where she served the next eight years.&nbsp; Sister Teresita also 
served in leadership positions in her Dominican religious community.&nbsp; 
During a sabbatical she spent time in Japan teaching English to adults.&nbsp;
 She moved to the motherhouse in 1991 where she ministered in the Office
 of Mission and Ministry. She was known throughout the community for her
 hospitality and her love for the foreign missions.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, as well as the 
Dominican Sisters of Peace. Sister Teresita was preceded in death by her
 parents and three brothers, Leo, Cletus, and Sylvester.

A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7.&nbsp; The 
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 8.&nbsp; Both 
will take place at the Sisters’ Convent.&nbsp; Burial will be in the Sisters’
 Resurrection Cemetery.

Twila May Armbrister, age 53, died Friday, July 1, 2022. She was born September 30, 1968 at Fort Hood, Texas, to Alvin and Margaret (Faulkner). She attended the grade school and high school in Ellis, Kansas, graduating in the Class of 1987. Then, she furthered her education at Colby Community College with an associates in Secretarial Science. Later in life, she went back to school at Hutchinson Community College for medical coding. 

She met David Scott Wilson on her birthday, they dated for a year and got married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Colby, Kansas, on September 25, 1993. To this union two children were born, Alan Wilson and LeeAnn&nbsp;Wilson.

Twila was loved by many of the children she watched throughout the years at a daycare she ran in Colby. Some of her favorite activities include shopping with her mother on Saturday mornings, playing pinochle, quilting, helping on the family farm, and hot tubbing with her husband.

She is survived by David, of the home; son, Alan Wilson, Phillipsburg, KS; daughter LeeAnn Wilson and significant other Sam Long, Salina; her parents, Alvin and Margaret Armbrister, Ellis; brothers, Elton Armbrister and significant other, Deb; Jeff Armbrister, Norton; sister-in-law Laquita (Travis) Smith, Almena; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sets of grandparents and her in-laws.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 9th, 2022, at 2 PM at St&nbsp;John Lutheran Church,&nbsp;394 St John - St Andrew Road, Ellis, KS 67637.&nbsp; Memorial visitation will be at the church from 1 PM until service time.

Geraldine Regina Neff passed away July 3, 2022, at Good Samaritan 
Oberlin, Kansas, at the age of 88. She was born August 3, 1933, in 
Dresden, Kansas to Edward J. Miller and Christina B. (Zimmerman) Miller.
 She received her education at Leoville Grade and High School 
graduated in 1951 and went onto Marymount College in Salina, KS and 
Colorado University, Boulder, CO. She taught school in Andale, KS and 
Leoville, KS.

Gerry would marry Donald Neff on August 21, 1956, and 
became a homemaker and enjoyed catering and being a substitute teacher.

Survived by her husband, Donald Neff; three sons: Michael (Jackie) 
Neff, Dresden, KS, Thomas (Chris) Neff, Marion, KS, James (Kristal) 
Neff, Manhattan, KS; two daughters: Christina Rasure (Mitch Tiede), 
Goodland, KS, Debora (Mark) Jennings, Wichita, KS; Six grandchildren: 
Daniel Rasure, Kayla (Brad) Hedges, Mallory Jennings, Jordan Jennings, 
Darius Neff and Elora (Alex) Aldridge.  Four step-grandchildren: Elliott

Geraldine Regina 'Gerry' Neff

Charlotte Gertrude Wilhelmina (Kress) Settle, 92, of
 Salina, passed away July 1, 2022. She was born in Cologne, Germany 
August 31, 1929 to Eugene and Cacilia Kress. Charlotte met Lester during
 WWll in Sinsheim, Germany while he was serving in the US Army. They 
were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Oakley, KS August 5, 
1947, and were married 71 years. They farmed and ranched near Winona, KS 
until 1999 and retired in Salina, KS.

While living in Winona, Charlotte worked at the school, drove a 
school bus, sold World Book Encyclopedias, and worked for SRS. After 
moving to Salina, she worked at the local art gallery and was a greeter 
for Conklin Cars. She was active in the German Club and St. Mary Queen 
of the Universe Catholic Church. She had a compassionate conviction for 
the lives of unborn children and always had a strong interest in 
politics.

Although Charlotte grew up in the large city of Cologne,Germany, at 
age 17 she learned how to help on the farm but always preferred to have a
 fence between her and the farm animals. She tamed raccoons, dressed 
hundreds of chickens, canned foods, delivered milk, cream, and eggs, 
prepared meals for harvest crews, and nary a weed dare grow in her 
luscious green yard. Charlotte loved working in her home, visiting with 
neighbors and friends, square dancing, having card parties and 
entertaining. New teachers to the community always found a welcome meal,
 and foreign college students always found a home full of hospitality 
during holidays. Most of all, she enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and
 making the farm a fun place to visit.

Always an avid reader, Charlotte encouraged her children to read, 
work hard, excel in whatever they did, and make the most of 
opportunities. She enjoyed writing and wrote many poems and diaries 
throughout her life. She loved music, especially classical and German. 
She found great joy in playing her accordion and was happy to entertain 
during the German Club meetings and even at her 90th birthday 
celebration. Her favorite food was chocolate, especially chocolates 
directly from Germany. Her favorite song was Enjoy Yourself, It’s Later 
Than You Think.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Lester. Survivors 
include her six children: Irene (Doug) Johnson of Dallas, TX, Frank 
(Peggy) Settle of Overland Park, Gloria (Ralph) Duffey of Salina, Harold
 (Rhonda) Settle of Great Bend, Roger (Theresa) Settle of Dodge City,

 Salina, passed away July 1, 2022. She was born in Cologne, Germany 
August 31, 1929 to Eugene and Cacilia Kress. Charlotte met Lester during
 WWll in Sinsheim, Germany while he was serving in the US Army. They 
were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Oakley, KS August 5, 
1947, and were married 71 years. They farmed and ranched near Winona, KS 
until 1999 and retired in Salina, KS.While living in Winona, Charlotte worked at the school, drove a 
school bus, sold World Book Encyclopedias, and worked for SRS. After 
moving to Salina, she worked at the local art gallery and was a greeter 
for Conklin Cars. She was active in the German Club and St. Mary Queen 
of the Universe Catholic Church. She had a compassionate conviction for 
the lives of unborn children and always had a strong interest in 
politics.Although Charlotte grew up in the large city of Cologne,Germany, at 
age 17 she learned how to help on the farm but always preferred to have a
 fence between her and the farm animals. She tamed raccoons, dressed 
hundreds of chickens, canned foods, delivered milk, cream, and eggs, 
prepared meals for harvest crews, and nary a weed dare grow in her 
luscious green yard. Charlotte loved working in her home, visiting with 
neighbors and friends, square dancing, having card parties and 
entertaining. New teachers to the community always found a welcome meal,
 and foreign college students always found a home full of hospitality 
during holidays. Most of all, she enjoyed visiting her grandchildren and
 making the farm a fun place to visit.Always an avid reader, Charlotte encouraged her children to read, 
work hard, excel in whatever they did, and make the most of 
opportunities. She enjoyed writing and wrote many poems and diaries 
throughout her life. She loved music, especially classical and German. 
She found great joy in playing her accordion and was happy to entertain 
during the German Club meetings and even at her 90th birthday 
celebration. Her favorite food was chocolate, especially chocolates 
directly from Germany. Her favorite song was Enjoy Yourself, It’s Later 
Than You Think.Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband, Lester. Survivors 
include her six children: Irene (Doug) Johnson of Dallas, TX, Frank 
(Peggy) Settle of Overland Park, Gloria (Ralph) Duffey of Salina, Harold
 (Rhonda) Settle of Great Bend, Roger (Theresa) Settle of Dodge City, 
and Janet (Patrick) Gleason of Meade. 19 Grandchildren: Kurt (Rae)

Charlotte Gertrude Wilhelmina (Kress) Settle

Bonnie Jean McElroy passed away on June 29, 2022, at the age of 89 in 
Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born on July 31, 1932, in Hays, Kansas, to 
James “Jimmy” and Gladys (Lowry) McClellan. She was united in marriage 
to Bethel McElroy on June 2, 1951, in Palco, Kansas, at the United 
Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with four sons: Rod, Mickie, 
Jim and Larry.
 Bonnie grew up in Rooks County, she attended grade school in Zurich 
and high school in Palco where she graduated with the class of 1949. 
Following high school, she attended Fort Hays State for 2 years before 
she married Bethel and the couple moved back to Zurich until Bethel’s 
honorable discharge from the army. The couple then moved to a farm near 
Palco on the Red Line. They moved into town in 1957 and raised four 
sons. Bonnie spent her years raising her family and being a working hand
 on the farm and ranch. She was a key part in the farm operation, making
 sure the crew was well fed and would assist anywhere she was recruited.
 Bonnie enjoyed the outdoors, especially the baby calves, spending time 
in her garden, and out-fishing her husband. It was also known she was a 
talented artist. She created many immaculate pieces which were 
displayed, sold, and earned many awards. Bonnie enjoyed sharing her love
 of art by teaching several painting classes. If she wasn’t outdoors or 
painting, she enjoyed square dancing, playing cards with her coffee club
 and friends, and was an avid Kansas sports fan. She rooted for the KU 
basketball team, the K-State Football team, and the Royals. Bonnie was a
 member of the Palco Methodist Church, Bridge and Pitch Card Club, 
Coffee Club, and Red Hat Society.
 Bonnie enjoyed the springtime, being outside, and tending her 
gardens. She not only tenderly cared for her family, dachshunds and 
garden, but more importantly she sowed the seeds of love and laughter 
into the lives of those closest to her. Although we will miss her 
greatly, we rejoice that she is now reaping the bountiful harvest of her
 hard work and loving labor, in the company of her Lord, until we see 
her again.
 She is survived by her husband, Bethel McElroy of South Hutchinson, 
KS; sons, Rod (Jolene) McElroy of Wheelersburg, OH, Mickie (Glenda) 
McElroy of Logan, KS, Jim (Bonnie) McElroy of Sterling, KS, Larry

Lifelong Goodland, KS resident, Mary Eleanor&nbsp;Puttroff, 91, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022, at the Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, KS.

Mary was born on December 14, 1930, in Goodland to John and Frances (Nester) Schindler. She attended school in Goodland and graduated from Sherman Community High School in 1948.

She worked many years as a bookkeeper for various gas companies. She was married for a short time and had two daughters; Sharon and Marcia.<a></a>

Preceding her in death were her parents, 2 brothers and one sister.

Surviving family includes her daughters; Sharon (Tom) Nemechek of Des Moines, IA and Marcia (Rob) Haug&nbsp;of Kansas City, MO, four grandchildren; Jodi (Shannon) Hensley of Des Moines, IA, Justin (Kathy) Nemechek of Bucyrus, KS, Chris&nbsp;Haug&nbsp;of Kansas City, MO and Courtney (Josh) Murray of Kansas City, MO, and six great grandchildren; Kaitlin and&nbsp;Kamerin&nbsp;Hensley, Iris and Caroline Nemechek and Elliott and Emilia Murray.

Mary Eleanor (Schindler) Puttroff

damnedest to leave this world totally exhausted and with a great big 
smile on my face.”
 Sally Sally Sally: The Memoirs of Roger Shields (c. 2011). 
 Roger William Shields was born on July 12, 1938, in Winfield, KS. He died on June 
27, 2022, at the age of 83, in Topeka, KS, where he resided for the last
 2 years of his life. 
 He is preceded in death by his parents, William Robert Shields and Marguerite Shields. 
 Roger’s mother meant everything to him. Marguerite loved him 
fiercely and as such, held Roger to high standards. She often pushed him
 to rise up to the level of potential she saw in him. Always a doting 
mother, when Roger would give his little sister rides on his Cushman 
Scooter, their mother would simply yell at Karen to “hang on tightly” as
 she watched the kids go up and down the street. Roger’s mother passed 
away in 1989 at the age of 80. 
 Roger was only 20 years-old when his father died in 1958. While they
 did not have time to deepen their relationship in all the ways Roger 
had hoped for, one special memory he often shared was of giving his 
father one final shave in the hospital shortly before William’s passing.
 
 Roger leaves behind six children to cherish his memory - Terry 
Shields and wife Sharon, Randy Shields and wife Jerri, Gary Shields and 
wife Angela, Dawn Shields and husband Thomas Krannawitter, Mark Shields 
and wife Rebecca, and Jessica Gottschalk and husband Luke. He is also 
survived by his brother, Bob Shields and wife Maxine, and his sister 
Karen Keady: as well as many beloved grandchildren and 
great-grandchildren.
 Roger spent his childhood primarily in Winfield, KS. He began 
working at the early age of 12, but he found his lifelong career in 
computer programming at the age of 20. He spent most of his career 
working with IBM, but his greatest professional achievement was starting
 his company, Bankers Own Software Systems (B.O.S.S.). 
 Roger’s adult years were spent in Ponca City, OK, Wichita, KS, and 
Hays, KS, but some of his fondest memories were his years living on the 
Plaza in Kansas City. Incredibly proud of his Irish heritage, he 
attended the Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade every year. Roger 
loved music of all types, but especially blues and jazz. Many of his 
Kansas City nights were spent enjoying live music at Knuckleheads. Golf 
was also one of his hobbies, and in 1999, he and his son Randy played 
the round of a lifetime at St. Andrews in Scotland. At the age of 15, 
Roger discovered what would be a life-long passion for automobiles with a
 particular interest in classic cars. Roger also loved the Kansas City 
Chiefs and was a season-ticket holder for many years. 
 Roger always said his children were his biggest blessing. He was immensely proud of them. 
 The family will be holding a private service at a later date.&nbsp;

Stephen F. Effertz, age 71 years, of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away 
at his home in Great Bend early on Saturday morning, July 2, 2022.&nbsp; 
Stephen was born on July 25, 1950 at Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin to Henry 
L. and Sharon J. (Grisius) Effertz.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Cindy 
J. Neal on December 23, 1971 at Lone Grove, Oklahoma.&nbsp; 

Stephen spent 
four years in the service of his country in the U.S. Army, and then 
worked in the oilfield for Dia-Log of Great Bend for fifteen years.&nbsp; For
 twenty-five years from 1987 to 2012, he owned and operated the Baseball 
Card Shop in Great Bend.&nbsp; Stephen had a passion for card collecting, 
playing golf, coaching baseball, yardwork and gardening, and in his 
younger years loved hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy J. Effertz of Great Bend, Kansas; 
three sons: Steven Voth of Texas and Stephen Shane and Daniel Effertz, 
both of Great Bend, Kansas; six grandchildren:&nbsp; Jayson Effertz, Justin 
Effertz, Blaze Jacobs, Trinity Reeves, Brayden Voth, and Tristan Voth; 
his mother, Sharon Servi of Heartland, Wisconsin and his stepmother, 
Diane Effertz of Great Bend, Kansas; three brothers:&nbsp; Anthony Effertz of

Linda Kaye Slemp, 70, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022, at her home in La Crosse, Kansas.

Linda was born May 18, 1952, in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of 
Lester and Catherine (Gentry) Smith.&nbsp; She was a resident of Rush County,
 Kansas, since 2003, moving there from Michigan.&nbsp; She worked in the 
housekeeping department at Rush County Memorial Hospital, La Crosse, 
Kansas, before her retirement.

She was a member of the Solomon Valley Muzzleloaders Association, and the Kansas Traditional Muzzleloading Association.

Linda enjoyed camping and working in her flowers.&nbsp; She loved and lived for her family and friends.

On July 18, 1987, she married Joseph “Joe” Slemp in LaGrange, Indiana.

Survivors include:&nbsp; her husband, Joseph “Joe” Slemp, La Crosse, 
Kansas; one son, Ron Reed (April), La Crosse, Kansas; one daughter, Lacy
 Quake (Andrew), Three Rivers, Michigan; one daughter in law, Ashley 
Slemp, Hoisington, Kansas; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; 
and her lifelong friend of 58 years, Debbie “Ann” Buck, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, David Smith, and 
Jeremiah “Jeremy” Slemp; two brothers, Bobbie Smith, and Ricky Smith; 
and one sister, Sharon Wicklund.

Helen Boyd, age 93, of Oakley, passed away June 30, 2022, at the Logan
 County Hospital, Oakley.&nbsp; She was born on May 8, 1929, in Winona to 
William "Bill"&nbsp; and Nanna Gfeller.&nbsp; She graduated from high school in 
Winona.&nbsp; On August 15, 1954, Helen married Maurice Boyd in Page City.&nbsp; 
To this union came 2 son’s, Steven and Robert.&nbsp; They were married for 55
 years before Maurice passed away in 2009.

Helen worked for Farmers State Bank for several years as bookkeeper. She enjoyed working alongside her sister Lois and several of her other co-workers. After leaving the bank she started babysitting from her home. She enjoyed watching the kids that she sat for grow into adults. She also enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. She enjoyed a good competition between her and Maurice as to who could grow the best garden. Helen was preceded in 
death by her parents, Bill and Nanna Gfeller, husband Maurice Boyd, 
brothers:&nbsp; Harold Gfeller, Ralph Gfeller, Don Gfeller,&nbsp; and Chet 
Gfeller; and sisters:&nbsp; Lois Nickelson, Gladys Collins, and Frieda

Norman Kenneth House, 84, a longtime resident of Goodland, Kansas 
passed away on July 1, 2022, at the Littleton Adventist Hospital in 
Denver, CO.&nbsp;

He was born to Kenneth and Pennette House on September 21, 1937, in 
the house he grew up and lived in until 1995.&nbsp; He graduated from 
Goodland High School in 1955 and Kansas State University in 1959.&nbsp; On 
December 21, 1966, he and Linda Loutzenhiser were married.&nbsp; They raised 
three children, Patrick, Amy and Jonathon.&nbsp;

Norman spent his life improving the land for future generations.&nbsp; He will always be remembered as a true steward of the land.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister and two brother-in-laws.&nbsp;

Survivors include his wife, Linda; children Patrick House of

William John “Bill” Luebbers, 68, passed away July 1, 2022, at Clara 
Barton Hospital, Hoisington.&nbsp; He was born February 7, 1954, to Joseph 
and Martina (Younger) Luebbers.&nbsp; Bill married Becky (Keener) Schneider 
May 4, 1990, in Jetmore.&nbsp; She survives.

Bill, a 1972 graduate of Claflin High School and lifelong resident of
 Hoisington, served the community of Hoisington as a Physician's 
Assistant for Clara Barton Hospital for 20 years.&nbsp; He had also worked in
 Hutchinson, Qatar, and Ft. Riley, retiring in 2020.&nbsp; He was a member of
 St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Fourth Degree member of 
Knights of Columbus, V.F.W. Post 6240, Russell, American Legion Post 
320, Ellinwood.&nbsp; He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy from 
1972-1978.&nbsp; His life passions include music, camping and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Becky Luebbers of the home; one daughter,
 Corliss Niethamer and husband Adam of College Station, Texas; two step 
daughters, Brenda Muehleisen and husband Eric of Hays, and Kristy Alvord
 of Great Bend; one brother, Michael Luebbers and wife Dawn of St. 
Louis, Mo.; brother-in-law, Roy Weber of Hoisington; and three 
grandchildren, Carter Muehleisen, Parker Muehleisen and Jace Welcher.&nbsp; 
He was preceded in death by brother, Andy Luebbers and a sister, Susan

Maxine (Fisher) Meyer was born January 6, 1924 in Clay Center, Kansas to
 Earl D. Fisher and Carrie (Hahn) Fisher. She passed away on Friday, 
July 1, 2022, at the age of 98.
 	Maxine attended Country Elementary School and graduated from Clay 
Center Community High School in 1941. On September 12, 1942 she married
 Richard Meyer and they celebrated 66 years of married life. She was a 
homemaker until 1964 when she was employed at the Smith County State 
Bank &amp; Trust Company starting as a Teller and retiring as Vice 
President and Trust Officer.
 	She was an active member of the United Methodist Church serving in 
most of the offices in the church and the United Methodist Women. She 
was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Smith Center Business 
&amp; Professional Women and Chapter AE of PEO. She served on the Smith
 Center Library Board for several years. Her focus was always on her 
home and family, and she was very proud of the achievements of her 
children and grandchildren.
 	She was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Joshua Yenne, 
three brothers and a sister. Left to celebrate her life are her 
children Gary (Mary) Meyer, Huntley, IL, Kenneth (Suzanne) Meyer, 
Prescott, AZ, Diane Meyer, Lawrence, Kathy (Jack) Yenne, Smith Center;

Maxine (Fisher) Meyer

Judd Thomas Cherryholmes, infant son of Cole Thomas and Nikki Kay (Delzeit) Cherryholmes,&nbsp;Hays,&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

After his parents learned about Judd’s sickness, this little fighter lived for another 118 days in his mommy, achieving the status of “full-term baby."&nbsp; The family wasn’t promised any of this time, but during it, Judd’s family made the most of it. &nbsp;Judd&nbsp;was often serenaded by his big brother Walker and his duet partner Kollins. &nbsp;Judd experienced the zoo, pool, camping, and fishing. &nbsp;He heard constant prayers, conversations, and nightly “special secrets” shared by his big brother and sister. &nbsp;Judd even got the unique opportunity to experience his mommy’s baptism with the rest of the family. &nbsp;

Did Judd live? &nbsp;You bet he did. &nbsp;And, the first time Judd opened his eyes, he looked into the eyes of Jesus. &nbsp;From that moment he has seen and experienced things we couldn’t begin to imagine. &nbsp;Judd’s family is so grateful for the time they had with him, and they are so thankful that God chose them to be his family.

Judd Thomas Cherryholmes, infant son of Cole Thomas and Nikki Kay (Delzeit) Cherryholmes,&nbsp;Hays,&nbsp;passed away&nbsp;Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.After his parents learned about Judd’s sickness, this little fighter lived for another 118 days in his mommy, achieving the status of “full-term baby."&nbsp; The family wasn’t promised any of this time, but during it, Judd’s family made the most of it. &nbsp;Judd&nbsp;was often serenaded by his big brother Walker and his duet partner Kollins. &nbsp;Judd experienced the zoo, pool, camping, and fishing. &nbsp;He heard constant prayers, conversations, and nightly “special secrets” shared by his big brother and sister. &nbsp;Judd even got the unique opportunity to experience his mommy’s baptism with the rest of the family. &nbsp;Did Judd live? &nbsp;You bet he did. &nbsp;And, the first time Judd opened his eyes, he looked into the eyes of Jesus. &nbsp;From that moment he has seen and experienced things we couldn’t begin to imagine. &nbsp;Judd’s family is so grateful for the time they had with him, and they are so thankful that God chose them to be his family.Judd will wait in Heaven for&nbsp;his&nbsp;relatives, including his parents:&nbsp;Cole and Nikki Cherryholmes, brother: Walker Cherryholmes, and sister: Kollins Cherryholmes, all of Hays, grandparents: Roy and Kendra Delzeit of Hays, Joy and Chuck Bezona of Syracuse,&nbsp;and&nbsp;John and Kathy Cherryholmes of Potwin,&nbsp;great grandparents: Jean and Pete Bezona of Syracuse, aunts and&nbsp;uncles: Robbie and Angela Delzeit of Hays, Sheila Kappenman of Edmond, OK, Braydon Delzeit of Edmond, OK, Hayden Bezona of Syracuse, Caleb and Katie Cherryholmes of Potwin, and Casey and Brice Lee of Andover, and numerous&nbsp;loving&nbsp;cousins.Judd has been welcomed into Heaven by his baby cousin&nbsp;Kappenman,&nbsp;great grandparents: Adaline and Corky Delzeit, Oneita and Lorne Press, Kathy and Larry Hapke, Elizabeth and George Walsh,&nbsp;and&nbsp;Mary and Clifford&nbsp;Cherryholmes, and great uncle: Doug Press.Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, in Mt.
