Carol Sue Idol (Peck)

Janice Wiersma, age 72, Hill City, Kansas, loving mother, and the 
world’s best Nani, passed away peacefully Monday, August 22, 2022, at 
the Graham County Hospital, after being surrounded by her loving family 
over the weekend. She was born February 26, 1950, to Roy and Stella 
Poffenberger, in Miles City, Montana.
 Janice enjoyed cooking and baking. Her family always looked forward 
to meals at her house! Everyone always knew there was going to be more 
food than they could ever eat and that it was all going to be delicious.
 She also enjoyed reading, spending time with her family, and was very 
passionate about her flowers. She could hardly wait for spring to roll 
around each year so she could decorate her yard with stunning 
flowerpots. 
 When Janice wasn’t tending her beloved flowers, she filled her home 
with warmth and kindness. Janice opened a daycare in her home. For 
several years she treasured and spoiled umpteen small children. But 
Janice took the most pleasure in being “Nani”. It was one of the most 
important parts of Janice’s life, a role that gave her much pride and 
joy. 
 Janice is survived by three biological children: Michael (Susie) 
Ramey of Las Vegas, Nevada, Troy (Bridgette) Ramey of Grinnell, and 
Angie (Brett) Garrison of Hill City; three stepchildren: Darin Wiersma 
of Arizona, Anita Wiersma of Kansas City and Jeania (Tom) Eckley of 
Wichita; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ralph 
Poffenberger; a sister, Jean Schaak; and several nieces and nephews. 
 Family members that paved the way for Janice include her husband, 
Raymond Wiersma, her parents, Roy and Stella Poffenberger and her sister
 Joan Rusliff. 
 Although Janice was tiny and frail, she gave us all hope and 
reminded us of the preciousness of life. She will be greatly missed by 
all. 
 At her request, no service will be held.

Jack D. Richardson, 84, passed away on August 29, 2022, at Integris 
Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla. He was born on February 2, 
1938, at Arkansas City, Kansas to Fred &amp; Edith (Sanner) Richardson. 
On March 7, 1957, Jack married Sharolyn “Shari” Rowe in Winfield, Kan. 
She passed on April 14, 2004.

Coming to Great Bend in 1969, Jack worked in the oilfield and truck 
driving for over 40 years for Slawson Drilling and Jack B. Kelley, prior
 to his retirement. The rig hands always talked about the strength of 
his hands. Jack got great satisfaction playing practical jokes on 
everyone. “Grandpa Jack” enjoyed spending time with his grandson and 
great-grandchildren, watching them play sports.

Survivors include a daughter: Vicki Richardson of Great Bend, Kan.; a
 daughter-in-law, Carla Richardson, of Woodward, Okla.; a grandson, Josh
 (Lexi) Richardson, of Edmond, Okla.; three sisters: Margaret, Betty and
 Joan.; two step grandsons, Brandon and Kevin Williams; a step 
granddaughter, PeggySue Brown; and several great-grandchildren. He was 
preceded in death by his wife, Shari Richardson; a son, David 
Richardson; three brothers; and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 
2022, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Pastor Larry Schumacher 
presiding. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to United 
Way of Central Kansas’ Laundry Love Project, in care of Bryant Funeral

Gregory Alan Irving, 62, passed away August 27, 2022, at Hospice 
House in Hutchinson. He was born on August 12, 1960, at Philadelphia, 
Penn. to Henry &amp; Gertrude (Sullivan) Irving.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Gregory was an over the road truck
 driver. He enjoyed building computers, working on cars and the Kansas 
City Chiefs. He loved family get-togethers, especially the 4th of July.

Survivors include, his children, Matthew Irving, Richard Irving and 
Alisha Kitterman all of Great Bend and Cory Kitterman of Larned; three 
sisters, Gloria Orebaugh of Ellinwood, Sandra Byington of Great Bend and
 Carol Henson of Hutchinson; a step brother, Detlef Snyder of Iowa; and 
step sister Barbara Stoffel of Iowa; and a grandson, Richard Irving. He 
was preceded in death by his parents and a step sister, Monica Smith.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside 
service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at the 
Hoisington Cemetery with Pastor Ken Gray presiding.

Jackson "Mighty Mouse" Wade Noveroske blessed this earth with his presence at 5:56&nbsp; a.m. on February 2, 2007, completing his family and joining his parents, William and Hedy Noveroske, big sister Kelsey Salmon (Gabe), little big sister Karrah Bailey and big brother John Noveroske. Jackson’s passion for fishing began at a very early age with his patience developing sometime later. His Dad, brother, Grandpa Corby, Uncles Johnny and Jesse, cousins Hayden and Lakin and his dog “Charlie Wiggles” were his favorite fishing buddies. Before the sun rose and into all hours of the night, he would fish in the cove behind his house or the rock ledge behind his grandparent’s house. Jackson didn’t need to be taught how to fish. He would try everything in his unique and unorthodox bag of tricks to catch a catfish, bass, crappie, wiper, or whatever managed to find its way on the end of his line saying, “I told you so” whenever anyone questioned his fishing ways. His favorite to catch and reel in was a big ole blue cat. When he wasn’t fishing, the Tree of Life behind Grandpa and Grandma’s house is where you would find him. Summer to Jackson meant "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset repeat”! Jackson loved to do anything and everything outdoors. You would find him climbing trees out in the woods or right next to the house, shooting his BB gun, bow or makeshift rigged homemade weapons. Jackson loved sitting in the woods and watching the birds, wildlife, and just being out in nature. He developed a passion for hunting squirrel, turkey and deer. He got his first buck and turkey this past year and boy was he so very proud! ‘Hunting, fishing and loving every day” pretty much summed up what Jackson was about. He was passionate and kind and tried to save injured animals that made their way into his back yard. It didn’t matter whether it was a bird, squirrel, dog or cat; he wanted to help it heal. He loved feeding the birds in his backyard, his fish in the family pond or just sitting out on the deck listening to the locusts, crickets, and watching the lightning bugs. He was a gentle, kind and caring soul that appreciated everything in God’s creation. You could always find Jackson barefoot. His family could never figure out how a splinter could get pass his calloused feet from time to time, because he refused to wear shoes and socks. Running a 3k road race for his Milford Elementary school while barefoot was no big deal to him along with finishing first. His elementary teachers would reward him with not having to wear his shoes in class instead of a free pencil or piece of candy for those special “caught ya” moments. Jackson began his love for soccer watching his Dad coach his older siblings. He learned and developed his skills and knowledge for the game with the Milford Parks and Recreational team. Jackson moved on to travel league at the age of 8yrs playing on the Flint Hills Stingrays team. He continued to play on numerous club teams until 2021 when he played his final soccer game for the Danger FC Soccer Club. It was during his Stingray playing days that Jackson got his nickname “Mouse." During one of his many tournament games there were multiple “Jackson’s” out on the field. His Mom decided that he needed a nickname so he could tell when she and family were cheering him on. And because he was quiet and soft spoken, so very quick on and off the field, climbing everything he could, along with the fact that when he got excited, he literally squeaked, his mom gave him the nickname, Mouse. His “Mighty Mouse” name came on November 24, 2020, when Jackson was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. His favorite vacation place was Florida along the Emerald Coast. He loved spending time on the beach with all his family and trying to catch fish he had never caught before. He was adventurous and liked trying new things like skim boarding, crabbing, snorkeling or just walking along the beach searching for things that washed up on the shore. He loved watching the dolphins and the spectacular sunsets along the coasts. Jackson loved his Grandma’s porcupine meatballs and homemade chicken and noodles. He couldn’t wait for grandpa’s ham during holiday feasts, his dad’s fried rice and mom’s breakfast meals and lasagna were a comfort to him while at home. His favorite drink was Arizona sweet tea or the Arnold palmer, half tea/half lemonade. Almond Joy, Milky Way, and Hershey’s chocolate with almonds were among his favorite candy bars. His favorite ice cream was rainbow sherbet. His favorite color was green. Jackson was a true warrior. He was resilient, strong, tough, and able to tackle anything that he came up against. He was kind and patient with all his younger cousins and niece. He absolutely relished the fact that he was Uncle Mouse to his most favorite little girl, Charlotte Faye. When he wasn’t able to be home or with other family, he would turn to his Xbox where he could talk, yell and scream and get so excited with his friends and gaming buddy, Jenson, playing his Xbox. Jackson completed his elementary school years as a Milford Laker at Milford Elementary School and continued through his middle school years as a Junction City Middle School Wildcat. Jackson was to begin his sophomore year as a Blue Jay at Junction City High School and was looking forward to getting back on the soccer field to play alongside his brother and friends. His favorite part of the school day…the end of the day bell. His earthly journey is over, but an eternal, peaceful, loving journey with the Lord God and all his loving relatives that preceded him is his to make. He will truly be forever missed and forever in our hearts. Mildred Minnie (Hermanns) Grauerholz passed away on August 27, 2022. 
She was born on November 28, 1921. Mildred grew up on a farm south of 
Athol, Kansas. She married Lester Grauerholz, also of rural Athol, and 
together they reared three children. She was active in the St. John 
Lutheran Church, enjoyed playing the piano, helped with farm chores, and
 was noted for being an excellent seamstress and cook. Family and field 
hands alike always looked forward to her pies and desserts. She was 
generous with her time and put the needs of others ahead of her own. 
 Mildred was preceded in death by her parents Carl and Sophia 
(Engelke) Hermanns, her husband Lester, her daughters Patricia 
Gerstenkorn and Grace Hainke, her son-in-law Don Gerstenkorn and 
daughter-in-law Diane (Woods) Grauerholz, and great grandchild Kyle 
Begin.
 She is survived by her son James (Kay) Grauerholz of Wichita, KS, 
son-in-law Gary (Elizabeth) Hainke, Kensington, KS, and grandchildren 
Mitchell Gerstenkorn of Lakewood, CO, Andra Gerstenkorn of Evergreen,

Richard L. “Rick” Dinges, 66, of Fruita, Colorado, passed away with 
family by his side on August 17, 2022, after a short battle with cancer.
 Rick was born January 1, 1956, in Hays, Kansas, to Leroy and 
Elizabeth (Schnatterly) Dinges. He graduated from Hays High School with 
the Class of 1975, and met Dorene Hake soon after. New jobs led them to 
Denver, Colorado, where they were married February 14, 1980. They 
welcomed their son, Levi, on March 26, 1989. Rick enjoyed hunting, 
fishing, snowmobiling, four wheeling and motorcycling in the Colorado 
mountains, especially with Levi. He retired as a Denver Sheriff Deputy 
in 2015, and moved to Fruita to enjoy retirement with Dorene.
 Rick is survived by his wife Dorene of 42 years; his son Levi 
(Victoria), and grandsons Logan and Kaleb, of Wesley Chapel, FL; his 
mother, Betty Dinges, of Hays; seven sisters, Terri Rupp (Bruce), Hays, 
KS, Sharon Wasinger (Roxanne Witmer), Pueblo West, CO, Mary Jane Arnhold
 (Tim), Loveland, CO, Michelle Dietrich (Fred), Wamego, KS, Lucy Barnes 
(Howard), Julie Rider (Kurt), and Betsy Forinash (Brian), all of Hays; 
along with many siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in 
death by his father, Leroy, and his brothers, Cliff and Chris.
 A graveside service and inurnment will be held at a later date at St Joseph Cemetery, Hays, Kansas.

Richard L. 'Rick' Dinges

Nancy May (Levin) Muir passed away on August 26, 2022, at her home in 
Stockton, KS, at the age of 90. She was born on January 24, 1932, to 
Carl and May (Anderson) Levin in Salina, KS. She married Richard Davis 
“Dick” Muir on January 27, 1952, in Salina and they were blessed with 5 
children: Mike, Dana, Brad, John and Pat.
 Nancy grew up in Salina and graduated from Salina High School in 
1950. After she graduated high school, she worked as a secretary for 
Scoular Grain Company. Nancy met Dick on a blind date arranged by very 
dear mutual friends. After being married, Nancy left the comforts of her
 family’s urban home and moved to the country where she and Dick started
 farming and started their family. After her children were raised, she 
worked as a secretary at the high school and later she worked at the 
Main Street Medical Clinic. Nancy loved to cook and care for her family,
 especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who called her 
GG. She enjoyed attending their school and sporting events. She always 
took her local great grands to the Library every Friday and made sure 
they all went to swimming lessons during the summer sessions. Nancy 
loved to play golf and was a member of the Sunflowerettes women’s golf 
division. She taught her grandson, Heath, how to golf and later enjoyed 
going to his many tournaments. Nancy was a member and board member of 
the Methodist Church, she was on the Valley View Board, she belonged to 
ESA Sorority and the Sunflower EHS.
 Nancy was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Her love, 
intelligence, positivity, laughter, faith, and compassion helped raise 
an amazing family and impacted the lives of all who knew her. Whether 
life was dealing an easy hand or a difficult one, she taught us all how 
to live with amazing grace, joy, and happiness. Nancy had a love that 
knew no bounds this side of heaven and has now found its fullness in 
Christ; for that we rejoice, until we see her again, on the other side 
of heaven.
 Nancy is survived by her children, Mike (Sherry) Muir of Hays, KS, 
Dana (Steve) Fisher of Bainbridge Island, WA, John (Tina) Muir of 
Johnson Lake, NE, and Pat (Tialisa) Muir of Stockton; brother Charles

Nancy May (Levin) Muir

Bethel P. McElroy passed away on August 23, 2022, in Sterling, Kansas, at
 the age of 91. He was born to Irving and Mina (Forgy) McElroy in Palco,
 Kansas, on December 2, 1930. Bethel was united in marriage to Bonnie 
McClellan on June 2, 1951, at the Palco United Methodist Church in 
Palco, Kansas. To this union, four sons were born: Rod, Mickie, Jim and 
Larry.
 Bethel grew up in Palco and graduated from Palco High School in 
1947. Following high school, he worked at his in-laws’ company, 
McClellan Chevrolet until he went into the United States Army in 1951. 
Bethel was honorably discharged in 1953 and the couple moved to a farm 
near Palco on the Red Line before moving into town to raise their sons 
in 1957. He spent his years tending to his wheat and milo fields and 
raising his black angus cattle with his family. He also custom harvested
 for a stint. Bethel enjoyed the outdoors and loved to hunt and fish. In
 addition to outdoor activity, he loved playing pool or snooker, and 
played in many team tournaments. With his love of sports, he attended 
many of his grandchildren’s high school events, and he was a Chiefs and 
K-State football fan. In his later years he made it a priority to travel
 to Texas and Ohio to visit his grandchildren. He was a member of the 
Hill City VFW, United Methodist Church in Palco, and the Masons.
 Bethel was a man of great character, strong values, and deep love 
for his family and friends. Although he will be greatly missed, his 
love and influence will remain in the hearts and lives of all of us. May
 Bethel’s legacy inspire each of us to encourage one another, cherish 
the ties that bind, and live to serve God, Home, and Country everyday of
 our lives.
 He is survived by his sons, Rod (Jolene) McElroy of Wheelersburg, 
OH, Mickie (Glenda) McElroy of Logan, KS, Jim (Bonnie) McElroy of 
Sterling, KS, Larry (Shirley) McElroy of Lake Jackson, TX; thirteen

Leland Doss Chapman, 85, died on Saturday, August 27, 2022, with his 
family by his side and was reunited in heaven with his loving wife 
Sandra. He was born on April 25, 1937, the oldest of 4 kids of Jack 
&amp; Lena (Schweitzer) Chapman. He married Sandra J. Mendenhall on 
February 14, 1960, at Utica. She preceded him in death. 
Leland graduated from Utica High School and enlisted in the United 
States Army. After his discharge he owned and operated his construction
 business. Later he returned to the family farm and greatly enjoyed 
raising cattle and growing crops. He was especially proud of his family
 heritage and the Chapman family long history in both Utica and Gove 
County dating back to 1887 and also being a proud Army Veteran. His 
last 4 years were spent in the Lane County Long Term Center and the 
family would like to thank the staff for their compassionate care during
 the difficult times. 
He is survived by his Daughter- Melissa (Jake) Jacobs of Middlebury, 
Indiana, Son- Jack (Susan) Chapman of Dighton, Sister- Bonnie Chapman of
 Denver, Colorado, Brother- Russ (Alana) Chapman of Dighton, 11 
Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by

Jay Arthur Brutsche, age 71, of Goodland passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022, at the Cheyenne County Village in St. Francis.&nbsp;

Jay was born June 30, 1951, to Jay Arch and Holden Ann in Muskegon, 
Michigan. He grew up and went to school in Clifton, Colorado and 
graduated from Clifton High School in 1969. Jay worked as an automotive 
mechanic and retired in 1987. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and most of
 all spending time with his family and friends.&nbsp;

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald; and grandson, Thomas Brutsche.&nbsp;

Jay is survived by his wife, Nancy of Goodland; daughter, Gloria

Jay Arthur Brutsche

A Memorial Service for Charley Burton Rasp, age 84, of Enid, OK, is 
10:00 am, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel.
 Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral 
Home. 
Charley was born August 8, 1938, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, and passed away
 Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. His 
proud parents were Alfred Leo Rasp Sr. and Nellie Louise (Grimes) Rasp 
of Abilene, Kansas. 
The Rasp family moved to Abilene, Kansas, in 1941. Charley attended 
Garfield Grade School, Abilene Junior High and Abilene High School. 
During these school years, he was active in football, basketball, 
baseball and sang in the Abilene High choir and mixed ensemble. Charley 
played American Legion baseball during the summer for several seasons. 
Charley and Judith Ann Menges were married June 12, 1960, at the First 
Christan Church in Abilene, Ks. Afterwards, the couple moved to Hays, 
Kansas, to attend Fort Hays State University. Judy worked for the 
University's Director of Housing while Charley worked on the school 
maintenance program. During March 1963, the couple was blessed with the 
birth of Michelle Renee. Charley graduated from Fort Hays State 
University in May 1963, earning a bachelor's degree in Business 
Administration. 
The couple then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where Charley joined 
Phillips Petroleum Company as an accounting trainee. One year later, 
they moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where they maintained their home 
for 29 plus years. During those many years, the family grew to five, 
with Troy Randall and Jennifer Lynn both joining the family. Charley was
 very active supporting the kids activities (school PTA, sports at the 
Boys Club, Bartlesville Little League, served as president of Pony/Colt 
League for four years, as well as acting as a coach and director of 
softball and baseball for Little League). Charley and Judy were very 
active in square dancing. The family were members of the East Cross 
Methodist Church in Bartlesville. 
Charley entered a "loan service program" for Phillips Petroleum in 1975,
 with the position being in Norway. The family headed to London, England
 where Charley trained for 6 months. Then the family moved to Stavanger,
 Norway, for two years, where Charley served as Finance Manager for 
Norpipe A/S, while on loan service from Phillips Petroleum Co. The 
children attended the American School while in Stavanger. Living in 
Norway was a great experience for the entire family. Upon returning from
 Norway, the family returned to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. 
Charley held various positions before becoming Director of Banking &amp;
 Cash Management for Phillips Petroleum Company. Short of his 30-year 
anniversary, Phillips advised his services were no longer required, due 
to a major layoff within the company. Two years later, Charley joined 
the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Finance Department, Treasury Division
 as Manager of Cash Operations. After 15 years, Charley retired from the
 City of Kansas, Missouri.At this time, Michelle, Troy and Jennifer were
 away from the home and all three had earned their bachelor's degree 
from the University of Central Oklahoma, Edmond. Charley and Judy were 
very proud that all three kids earned their bachelor's degree. After 
retiring in Kansas City, Charley and Judy moved to Enid. Oklahoma. 
Charley joined the staff of the Garfield County District Attorney, 
working there for two years before retiring. Charley and Judy maintained
 their home in Enid where they enjoyed their grandchildren until the 
time of their passing. 
Survivors are daughter Michelle Renee Rasp Walsh of La Plata, MD, son 
Troy Randall Rasp of Enid, OK, daughter Jennifer Lynn Rasp of Ok. City, 
OK, grandsons Ryan Walsh and Logan Rasp, and granddaughters Haley Rasp 
Sparks, Megan Rasp Godfrey and Camryn Rasp.

Charley Burton Rasp

Donald Menze entered his Heavenly home on August 26th, 
2022, surrounded by his family at the Legends of Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Don 
was born in rural Gosper County, NE at his parent’s home, to Carl H. and
 Lena A. (Hilker) Menze on June 28, 1937.&nbsp;

He attended Snowball school District #1 in Gosper County through 
eighth grade.&nbsp; He graduated from Arapahoe High School with the class of 
1955 and furthered his education at McCook Community College.

Don joined the U.S. Armed Services in March 1957 spending one year in
 South Korea. Don was honorably discharged in December 1958.&nbsp; When he 
returned, he met the love of life, Freda Ann Sis and they were united in
 marriage on September 17, 1960, at St. John’s Nepomucene Catholic 
church in rural Rawlins County near Atwood, KS.

Don began a lifetime career with the tire &amp; rubber industry.&nbsp; 
Beginning in McCook, NE at the Firestone Tire store, he later 
transferred to Hastings, NE.&nbsp; In August 1961, Don was recalled to the 
Army to serve at Fort Sill, OK during the Berlin Crisis.&nbsp; After being 
discharged in August of 1962, Don and his young family moved to North 
Platte, NE where he returned to working for Firestone Co.&nbsp; He continued 
his career in the tire and rubber industry moving with Firestone to 
Omaha NE, back to Hastings NE, and then Lincoln NE.&nbsp; He later joined the
 B.F. Goodrich Co managing stores in Waterloo, IA, and St. Charles, MO 
before moving to Hays, KS as a Regional Sales Manager for Goodrich.&nbsp; 
During his distinguished career, Don was recognized often for exceeding 
his sales goals and was awarded numerous trips around the world for 
Freda and him.

In 1983, Don and Freda became the owners of Gullickson Tire Co. in 
Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; They retired in 2004 with the sale of their tire 
business.

Don was a faithful member of the Church of the Holy Cross, 
Hutchinson, KS. where he served as a past president of the parish 
council.&nbsp; He also was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus #612, Bishop 
Cushing’s Council of 4th Degree Knights, a founding member of
 the Serra Club of Reno County and attended Perpetual adoration.&nbsp; Don 
was also very active in the community.&nbsp; He was a member of the American 
Legion, served as president of the Mid-American Tire Dealers Assoc, 
served on the agriculture committee of the Hutchinson Chamber of 
Commerce, and participated as a member of the Hutchinson C.C. 
Quarterback Club.

Along with his Catholic faith, his family was most important to him.&nbsp;
 He loved being with his them, enjoying time watching and attending his 
children and grandchildren’s various activities.&nbsp; He enjoyed many card 
games, sequence board games and playing pool with his family and 
friends.&nbsp; He was a loyal fan to his KU Jayhawks, Nebraska Cornhuskers, 
KC Royals, and KC Chiefs. &nbsp;To those who knew him best, Don will be 
remembered for his generous heart.

Don was preceded in death most recently by his son, Bradley Menze, as
 well as an infant daughter.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;In addition, his parents, sisters: Carol
 Haussler, Judy (Wayne) Huxoll, Audre (Victor) Haussler and brothers: 
Bryce Menze and Larry Menze, all preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife of nearly 62 years.&nbsp; His children,
 Julie (Brian) White of Wichita, KS; Sarah (Scott) Berry of Hutchinson, 
KS; Ann (Jason) Graham of Hutchinson, KS and Anne Menze of Lenexa, KS.&nbsp; 
Grandchildren: Michael Berry, Connor Wolfe and fiancée Evelyn Medina, 
Nicole Berry, Noelle Graham, Megan White, and Nathan Menze.&nbsp; He also 
leaves many relatives, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and 
friends.

A public viewing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31st,&nbsp; from 9am to 5pm at Elliot’s Mortuary, followed by a Rosary at 7:30pm at 
Holy Cross Catholic Church.&nbsp; Funeral services are planned for Thursday, 
September 1st at 10am at Holy Cross Catholic Church.&nbsp; Burial to follow at Memorial Park, Hutchinson, KS.

Asella M. Lindstrom, 99, of Salina, passed away 
Thursday, August 25, 2022.&nbsp; She was born in Hoxie, Kansas on December 
24, 1922, to Mathias and Elizabeth (Reinert) Schuetz.&nbsp; She married Merle 
Lindstrom and he passed away in 1997.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Mary 
Queen of the Universe Catholic Church, where she was a funeral greeter 
and helped with luncheons.&nbsp; She enjoyed visiting with people and lending
 a helping hand to others.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Robert 
Schuetz, Raymond Schuetz, Bernard Shuetz, Isabel Peltier, Henrietta 
LaBarge, and Pauline Perkins.

She is survived by her sister, Josephine Goscha, of Garden City, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, August 30, at Ryan Mortuary, vigil will begin at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2022,&nbsp; at St. Mary Queen of the Universe Catholic Church with Fr. Brian 
McCaffrey as celebrant.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Catholic 
Cemetery.

Asella M. Lindstrom

Janice was born May 4, 1939, to Walter Cass and Irene Hebert Cass in 
Oakley, KS. She graduated from Oakley High School with the Class of 
1957. After she graduated, she briefly attended flight attendant school 
in Omaha, NE. She married Gary Baalman in Oakley, January 11, 1958. 
 Janice was a phenomenal loving wife, mother, and friend. Her family 
always came first; her various dogs a close second. Cooking, gardening, 
sewing, and painting were a few her many talents. Janice carefully 
decorated, cared for, and had a lot of pride in her home. Everything 
always had it’s place. Janice was a genius at organizing. She always 
desired for her home to be ready for an unexpected visitor and you would
 never find a speck of dust. Her creativity will live well into the 
future through her scrapbooks, quilts, and genealogical projects. 
 Janice was beautiful inside and out. She was always up for a for a 
shopping trip. Many would call her a fashion trendsetter and Janice 
always looked amazing. It was important to her to be buttoned up and 
looking her best. Janice’s class and elegance stemmed from her desire 
for everything to match and compliment. 
 Throughout her life she loved creativity and movement. Janice loved 
to dance and golf. Gary and Janice were very elegant and fun dancers. If
 they ever went to a wedding they were always on the floor for the 
majority of the night. She was a social butterfly and loved a good 
party. She was always on the go and couldn’t sit still for long. 
Janice’s fun, playful, social nature is how she built her enormous 
circle of friends. She was a competitive card shark. Janice was always 
up for a good card game. She loved to play bridge. Gary and Janice for 
many decades belonged to a monthly bridge club. The legacy of playing 
games will live on through the generations of Baalmans.
 Janice was adventurous and adored traveling. She traveled with Gary 
throughout her life and if he didn’t cooperate she would go without him.
 She wasn’t afraid of new countries and cultures and was endlessly 
curious. There was nothing Janice liked better than an interesting 
conversation with a friend. Janice never met a stranger. She would 
introduce herself and start engaging conversations routinely with total 
strangers. By the end, Janice would have found some common ground and 
exchanged contact details. She was curious about everything and 
everyone. This is how Janice lived her life. She was a member of the 
local ladies Red Hat Society and joined in many outings filled with 
friendship, love, and laughter. One of Janice’s passions was the Long 
Term Care and being a beacon of positive companionship for others.
 A faithful friend of the World War II 5th Bombardment Group (H)

that her uncle Major Gerald Cass was a pilot with the group. Major Cass

 Later in life after recovering from alcohol addiction, Janice’s 
faith in Jesus grew into devotion and truly became the center of her 
life. She had a servant’s heart. Her journey through Alchoholics 
Anonymous (A.A.) changed her life and fueled her to be a woman for 
others. There are numerous people that she took under her wing and truly
 changed their lives. Janice found her gifts and channeled them to 
mentor others through drug and alcohol addiction. Janice was always 
helping other people. The Serenity Prayer was special to her and the 
slogans of A.A. &amp; Al-Anon would often be her advice. Those who knew 
her knew: Let Go and Let God, Easy Does It, Live and Let Live, First 
Things First, and One Day at a Time. 
 Janice and Gary have been life members of either St. Martin’s or St.
 Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. In Seguin, she taught CCD classes and 
was a member of the St. Ann’s and St. Frances Cabrini Sodalities. She 
was active in the Catholic Church’s Renew and Marriage Encounter 
programs, and served her parish as a Eucharistic Minister.
 Janice and Gary had a deep lifelong romance. Their marriage was 
based on a collaborative and caring friendship. They celebrated their 
64th anniversary this year. 
 Janice had a strong faith and she had no fear in dying. She 
anxiously awaited going home to see the Lord Jesus. She died August 26, 
2022. 
 She is survived by children Brian and wife Sheri of Menlo, KS; Gwen 
and husband Todd Dobbs of Flagstaff, AZ; Andrea Taylor and Michael 
Berger of Denver, CO. Janice is also survived by eight grandchildren, 
who were the delight of her life: Cass (Alicia) Baalman, Coby (Megan) 
Baalman, Hannah Dobbs, Tyler (Courtney) Dobbs, Kate Ostmeyer, Will 
Taylor, Luke Taylor, and Nora Taylor; and seven great grandchildren 
under the age of eight: Arabella, Harper, Daisy, Laken, Bonnie, Ryder, 
and Tucker. 
 A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for Tuesday, August 30, 2022, 
10:30 A.M., at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie, Kansas. 
Visitation will be held Monday, August 29, 2022 at the Mickey-Leopold 
Funeral Home from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with family receiving 
friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. The Vigil and Rosary Service be 
held at 7:00 P.M. following the visitation.&nbsp;

 </figure>Janice was born May 4, 1939, to Walter Cass and Irene Hebert Cass in 
Oakley, KS. She graduated from Oakley High School with the Class of 
1957. After she graduated, she briefly attended flight attendant school 
in Omaha, NE. She married Gary Baalman in Oakley, January 11, 1958. 
 Janice was a phenomenal loving wife, mother, and friend. Her family 
always came first; her various dogs a close second. Cooking, gardening, 
sewing, and painting were a few her many talents. Janice carefully 
decorated, cared for, and had a lot of pride in her home. Everything 
always had it’s place. Janice was a genius at organizing. She always 
desired for her home to be ready for an unexpected visitor and you would
 never find a speck of dust. Her creativity will live well into the 
future through her scrapbooks, quilts, and genealogical projects. 
 Janice was beautiful inside and out. She was always up for a for a 
shopping trip. Many would call her a fashion trendsetter and Janice 
always looked amazing. It was important to her to be buttoned up and 
looking her best. Janice’s class and elegance stemmed from her desire 
for everything to match and compliment. 
 Throughout her life she loved creativity and movement. Janice loved 
to dance and golf. Gary and Janice were very elegant and fun dancers. If
 they ever went to a wedding they were always on the floor for the 
majority of the night. She was a social butterfly and loved a good 
party. She was always on the go and couldn’t sit still for long. 
Janice’s fun, playful, social nature is how she built her enormous 
circle of friends. She was a competitive card shark. Janice was always 
up for a good card game. She loved to play bridge. Gary and Janice for 
many decades belonged to a monthly bridge club. The legacy of playing 
games will live on through the generations of Baalmans.
 Janice was adventurous and adored traveling. She traveled with Gary 
throughout her life and if he didn’t cooperate she would go without him.
 She wasn’t afraid of new countries and cultures and was endlessly 
curious. There was nothing Janice liked better than an interesting 
conversation with a friend. Janice never met a stranger. She would 
introduce herself and start engaging conversations routinely with total 
strangers. By the end, Janice would have found some common ground and 
exchanged contact details. She was curious about everything and 
everyone. This is how Janice lived her life. She was a member of the 
local ladies Red Hat Society and joined in many outings filled with 
friendship, love, and laughter. One of Janice’s passions was the Long 
Term Care and being a beacon of positive companionship for others.

Janice Marie (Cass) Baalman

James Doyle "Jim" Jones, age 82, of Oakley, passed away on August 24, 
2022, at Colby Health and Rehab in Colby.&nbsp; Jim was born on May 12, 1940,&nbsp; in Monument to Haskel and Dorothy (Greenwood) Jones, the third of four 
children. Jim married Patty Schwebach on July 20, 1961, in Guyman,
 Oklahoma.&nbsp; During much of his life, he did custom harvesting or worked 
as a mechanic on anything that needed attention, ie. cars, pickups, 
trucks, farm machinery, and a multitude of other things, like "the 
handyman" for many jobs or things.&nbsp; Jim and Patty raised their son, 
Brent, to work hard and enjoy life, and many of the lessons taught have 
been passed on to his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Haskel and Dorothy, and his brother, Max Jones. Jim
 is survived by his wife Patty, his son Brent, 2 granddaughters, 3 great
 grandchildren, his brother Jon Jones, and sister Janice Barnett. A complete obituary will follow. A
 Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2022, at 
the United Christian Church of Oakley with Pastor Bob Kelly

James Doyle 'Jim' Jones

Vernon Dale Soodsma passed away August 26, 2022, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, KS at the age of 85.

He was born July 4, 1937, in Phillips County, KS the son of John William and Gertrude Johanna (Hogan) Soodsma.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Jane Kats on October 8, 1965, at the Luctor Christian Reformed Church.

Survivors include his wife Gladys of Scott City, KS; three sons Kevin
 and wife Amy of Grand Rapids, MI, Scott and wife Melissa of Healy, KS; 
and Terry of Buffalo, NY; two daughters Denise Van Soelen of Denver, CO 
and Tonya Koehn and husband Burke of Scott City, KS; a sister Leota Ehm 
of Indianapolis, IN; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022, in 
the Luctor Christian Reformed Church in Phillips County, KS with Pastor 
Shawn Richardson officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Luctor 
Cemetery.

Mr. Soodsma will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Monday with the 
family receiving friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Olliff-Boeve

John Ross Boos, age 38, of La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022, in La Crosse. He was born December 8, 1983, in Oakley, Kansas, to Bernard &nbsp;“Barney” and Sheila (Ross) Boos Jr. John had worked as a CNA at the Good Samaritan Society in Ellis and Redbud Village in Plainville and currently was working in the LaCrosse area doing lawn care. John was a fun-loving, good-natured person who truly enjoyed his family and friends. John was always the first to offer help to family and friends. He enjoyed dancing, cooking camping and fishing in his spare time. He is survived by his parents, Barney, and Sheila Boos of Ellis; two brothers, William M. Boos and Bernard “BJ” Boos of Hays; a sister, Kristen Sloan and husband Joe of Hays; three nieces, Gracie, Ashlyn and Emily; a nephew, Layton and a special friend, Brian Linsner of LaCrosse. John Ross Boos

Malcolm Lee Marshall, 94, lifetime resident of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at his home with his family by his side.

Malcolm was born April 29, 1928, in Russell, the son of Martin “Cleve” and Myrtle (Mitchell) Marshall.&nbsp; He was a 1948 graduate of Russell High School.&nbsp; He served his country during the Korean Conflict entering the&nbsp; U.S. Army&nbsp; in 1952, stationed at various locations throughout the US and later in Newfoundland.&nbsp; After his Duty was completed, he returned to Russell.

Malcolm was united in marriage to Janice Rae Stewart on September 7, 1958.&nbsp; This union was blessed with three children; LaRissa, Aaron and Eric.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.&nbsp; After 62 years of marriage, Janice preceded him in death on February 25, 2021.

Malcolm was employed with the JC Penney Company for 24 years before he and Janice purchased the Lewis Jewelry Store and started the Marshall’s Jewelry &amp; Gifts Store.&nbsp; A few years later, they purchased the building at 708 Main St., where they incorporated Marshall Flowers; a fresh and silk flower shop.&nbsp; He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where he served as greeter coordinator, usher and church counsel member.&nbsp; He was a member of various local civic organizations.&nbsp; He was a life member of the American Legion Post #99, Russell Masonic Lodge, Isis Shrine of Salina and Russell Elks Lodge.&nbsp; He enjoyed working with his hands and being outdoors.&nbsp; He was a gifted wood worker, enjoyed yard work, playing cards especially Gin and Bridge and occasionally having fun at the casinos. His great passion was being a part of his children’s lives, attending all their events and spending time with his grandchildren.

Malcolm’s surviving family include his daughter, LaRissa Morse of Peculiar, Missouri; two sons, Aaron Marshall (Paula) of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Eric Marshall (Linda) of Kearney, Missouri; six grandchildren, Kayla Owens (Blake), Chloe Morse, Matthew Marshall, Caroline Marshall, Miranda Marshall and Marleigh Marshall; and great granddaughter Bristol Owens.

Malcolm was preceded in death by his parents: wife, Janice; sister, Cleo Sharp; two brothers, Rolland Marshall and Bernard Marshall; son-in-law, Gary Morse.

Celebration of Malcolm’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at St. John Lutheran Church.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery where Military Rites will be conducted by the Russell V.F.W. Honor Guard.&nbsp; Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet friends from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.&nbsp;

Iris Emma Schafer, 69, of Gorham, Kansas, died on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at the Russell Regional Hospital E.R. in Russell, Kansas.

Iris was born on July 29, 1953, in Mesa, Arizona, the daughter of Louis A. and Emma (Hardt) Schroeder.&nbsp; She lived in Mesa at an early age and spent most of her childhood living in Yates Center, Kansas, graduating from Yates Center High School.&nbsp; She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Geary Schafer on October 04, 2001, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on October 31, 2021.&nbsp; She enjoyed cooking and worked for many years as a cook at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; She was known for making the best bierocks but because they took so much time to make, she often had her family begging her to make them.&nbsp; She loved playing and spending time with her four precious dogs.&nbsp; She especially loved spending time with her family and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Surviving family include sons Loren Schroeder and wife Shannon of Junction City, Kansas, and Wayne Light and wife Julia of Jacksonville, Florida, and daughter Tammie Krayca and husband Bob of Wilson, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, Victoria, Emma, Jordan, Christina, Michael, Ava, McKenna and Mason; and one great grandchild, Delaney.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Geary.

A celebration of Iris’ life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Dorrance City Cemetery in Dorrance, Kansas.&nbsp; Viewing will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Monday evening.&nbsp;

Naomi Doris Marie Clounch, age 89, of Iola, Kansas, passed away August 
25, 2022, in Iola, Kansas. Naomi was born July 14, 1933, in Omaha, 
Nebraska, to George W. Johnson, Sr. and Naomi Susie Mae (Anderson) 
Johnson. Naomi graduated Missouri Valley High School, Missouri
 Valley, Iowa, and she continued her education, receiving a dietician's 
certificate. Naomi was a dietary supervisor at Countryside Estates and 
then later a cook supervisor for Gas and LaHarpe Elementary Schools in 
the Iola school district. Naomi and Eugene E. Clounch, Jr. were married December 29, 1962, in Iola, Kansas. 
 Naomi belonged to the Clio Club and Ward Chapel AME Church, Iola, 
Kansas. She served her church as music director, missionary president, 
stewardess, and was a member of the Ward Chapel Singers. Naomi worked at
 the Allen County Regional Hospital as an auxiliary volunteer for 
several years. Naomi enjoyed spending time with her family, 
cooking, her Ebony Eight Red Hat Group and a local Red Hat Ladies group.
 She hosted many July 4th celebrations with family and friends. Naomi 
was a loving and caring person, who always fed everyone. If you needed a
 recipe, she was the person to go to for about any recipe imaginable. 
 Naomi was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene; sons, Paul
 Albert Graham, Jr., William Rodney Graham, Thurman David Graham, 
Nathaniel Maurice Graham; sister, GloriaJean Estill; and grandson, 
Justin Maurice Graham. Naomi is survived by daughters, Dr. 
Teresa L. Clounch, Hays, Kansas, Gena Clounch (Alan Scott), Iola, 
Kansas; brother, George W. Johnson, Jr., Kansas City, Kansas; eight 
grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and 
numerous other relatives and friends. A visitation for Naomi 
will be held Friday, October 14, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in 
The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola,
 Kansas.

Naomi Doris Marie Clounch

Keith William Raub, 22, died August 24, 2022, at St. Catherine 
Hospital of Dodge City. He was born on January 18, 2000, at Dodge City, 
Kansas, the son of Dan Raub.

He attended and graduated from Bucklin High School. Keith enjoyed 
spending time with his family and friends and listening to music in his 
spare time. He also enjoyed getting tattoos and working on his truck 
every chance he could. Keith worked for Vestas Wind Systems as a Cable 
Lineman and loved working any manual labor job he could get.

He is survived by his father, Dan Raub of Dodge City; sister, Santana
 Raub of Manhattan, Kansas; grandmother, Dorothy Raub Hanson of 
Nortonville, Kansas; half sister, Nikki Golden of Leoti, Kansas; half 
brother, Rusty Raub of Hays and numerous cousins. He was preceded in 
death by his grandfather, Allen Raub; uncle, Dave Raub; aunt, Jo Murk; 
and grandfather, Jim Hanson.

Memorial service will be held at Swaim Funeral Chapel on Sunday 
August 28, 2022, at 2:00 PM with Scott Tilley presiding. There will be no
 visitation as cremation has taken place.
