Joyce C. Carlton was born June 11, 1951, in Oberlin, KS to William Herbert and Nelda L. (Rhodes) Vaughn. She passed away September 20, 2022, at Hays Medical Center at the age of 71.
Joyce grew up in Jennings, KS and graduated from Jennings High School. She married Steve C. Carlton on July 11, 1970, in Dresden, KS. Joyce owned the Frontier Restaurant for many years. Owning a restaurant was the perfect job for her because she loved cooking. She also enjoyed helping others, visiting with family and friends, going to casinos, and playing bingo.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nelda; sister, Wilma Keith; brother-in-law, Ed McKenna; father-in-law, Clair Carlton, and sister-in-law, Cindy Connolly. She is survived by her husband, Steve of Oberlin; children: Brad Carlton of Lincoln, NE, Scott Carlton of Oberlin, KS and Melissa Carlton of Oberlin, KS; siblings, Gloria McKenna of Colby, KS and Gary (Judy) Vaughn of Henderson, CO; grandchildren: Hayden Vick and Samantha and Kramer Wrinkles, and great grandchildren, Zoey and Arden Wrinkles.
Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the Oberlin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12-7:00 pm Friday, September 23, at the funeral home with the family greeting guests from 5-7 pm.
