Bettie Lou (Brungardt) Hutchens

Bettie Lou (Brungardt) Hutchens, age 88, died Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Locust Grove Village Nursing Home, La Crosse, Kansas.

She was born February 24, 1934, in Victoria, Kansas, to Otto R. and Ottilia (Graf) Brungardt.  She married James Thomas Hutchens on April 25, 1972, in Las Vegas, Nevada.  He preceded her in death on January 9, 1982.

She was an office manager for AVON in California for 25 years the moved to Lakewood, Colorado for 20 years.  Bettie moved to Hays in 2008, and has lived the last nine years at Locust Grove Village.  She was raised in Victoria, was a graduate of Victoria High School, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays.

Survivors include her sister, Rita Wolf, Topeka, KS; her brothers-in-law, Wilfred Kreutzer, Hays, KS; and Al Arendt, Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, Peter Brungardt and Leroy Brungardt; her sisters, Henrietta Rohr; Amelia Jacobs; Alma Herrman; Lillian Herrman; Patty Kreutzer and Creda Arendt; and her infant sisters, Armella Brungardt and Barbara Brungardt.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 26, 2022 at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas with Father James Moster O.F.M. Cap.  Burial will be in  St. Fidelis Cemetery, Victoria, Kansas.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Monday, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis, Victoria, Kansas.  

The family suggest memorials payable to: Locust Grove Village in care of the mortuary.

Services are entrusted to Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays, 1919 East 22nd Street, Hays, Kansas 67601.
