Frank Leroy Frost, age 71 of Hays, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. Frank was born June 6, 1951, in Topeka, Kansas, to Frank F. and Betty (Hinkle) Frost. On November 22, 1975, he married Sandra Wing in Topeka. Frank had worked as a custodian for the Topeka school system. He enjoyed watching wrestling, westerns bowling, bent and wiggly puzzles, and talking on his CB radio where he was known as “Little Man.” Frank is survived by his wife, Sandra of Hays; a son, Frankie Frost of Topeka; a daughter, Snowda Frost of Hays; three brothers, Gary Jordan of Burlingame, Kansas, Kenneth Frost of Nortonville, Kansas, and James Frost of Delia, Kansas, as well as a sister, Julie Hernandez of Topeka. Karon Litzenberger, 76, died on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at St 
Catherine Hospital in Garden City. She was born on February 7, 1946, in
 Liberal, Kansas, the daughter of Clifton &amp; Ova Imogene (Mitchell) 
Jackson. She married Verle Litzenberger on July 28, 1973, in Hooker, 
Oklahoma. 
Karon graduated from Hooker High School with the Class of 1964. She 
then earned her Bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Panhandle
 State University and a Masters degree in education from Southwestern 
Oklahoma State University. She moved to Garden City, Kansas, in 1967 
and began her teaching career, where she taught 3rd grade at Alta Brown 
School and 2nd grade at Florence Wilson School for a total of 41 years. 
 She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Searchers 
Sunday School Class. She enjoyed playing bridge at the Finney County 
Senior Center, walking, gardening and being involved with her 
grandchildren. 
She is survived by her Husband- Verle Litzenberger, 2 daughters- Amy 
(Duane) Friedly of Shawnee and Laura (Seth) Patrick of Garden City, 
brother, George Jackson of Las Cruces, New Mexico, a twin sister- Sharon
 (Gary) Gregory of Goodland and 3 grandchildren- Jaxson Friedly, Madelyn
 Friedly and Abigail Patrick. She was preceded in death by her parents 
and grandson- Ryan Allan Patrick. 
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Monday at Garnand Funeral Home with 
Rev Joel Plisek officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in 
Garden City.

Karon Litzenberger

Allan Cecil Newkirk, 90, passed away September 7, 2022, at the 
University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born 
January 26, 1932, at Elk City, Kan., to Archibald &amp; Virginia 
(Conkright) Newkirk. He married Dolores Annette Wyman on July 31, 1955. 
She died on October 29, 2014. He then married Connie (Dodd) Banion on 
June 18, 2015. She died July 19, 2021.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Formerly of Havana, Independence, Elk City and Kinsley, Allan was a 
recent Great Bend resident. He was a heavy equipment operator for the 
Kansas Department of Transportation for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.
 Allan was a lifelong active member of the Assembly of God Church, 
currently attending Encounter Church (formerly First Assembly of God), 
Great Bend. He was also a long time member of the First Assembly of God 
Church, Independence. Allan loved to hunt, fish and camp, especially 
traveling to Estes Park, Colo. He was a veteran of the United States 
Navy having served during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include, two sons, Delane Newkirk and his wife Teressa of 
Lyons and Bruce Newkirk and his wife Sharla of Orange Park, Fla.; a 
daughter, Stephannie Zorn and her husband Gary of Ellinwood; a sister, 
Maryanne Broyles of El Dorado; thirteen grandchildren; and twenty-two 
great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives,
 Dolores Wyman Newkirk and Connie Banion Newkirk; a brother, James 
Newkirk; and a sister, Sarah Ross.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Memorial 
services will be Thursday, September 15, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., at First 
Assembly of God, Independence, with Pastor Robert “Bo” Bryant and Pastor
 Dwight Dozier presiding.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will be held at 
Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City.&nbsp;

Michael Joseph Thayer, 64, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Spring Hill Care &amp; Rehabilitation Center in Spring Hill. He was born on October 19, 1957, at Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Jerry E. &amp; Peg (Degan) Thayer.

Michael graduated from Liberal High School with the Class of 1976. He moved to Lakin and worked at Lakin Automotive Supply until 2004 when he became a self employed IT and computer person. In 2015, he became a jailer for the Kearny County Sheriff Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting and his gun collection.

He is survived by his 3 Sons- Jeff Thayer of Dodge City, Andy &amp; Brittney Thayer of Hays and Gilbert &amp; Heather Thayer of Spring Hill, Brother- Sean &amp; Ronell Thayer of Garden City, Sister- Nan &amp; Steve Kartsonis of Tuscson, Arizona, 5 Grandchildren-Jocelyn, Myles, Bowen, Easton &amp; Scottie. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Step-Father- Gilbert Phlieger and 2 Brothers- Jeffrey Thayer and David Thayer.

Michael Joseph Thayer

Gerald C. “Jerry” Kreutzer, 87, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Jerry was born March 21, 1935, in Liebenthal, Kansas, the son of Marcus and Cecilia (Legleiter) Kreutzer.  He was a lifelong Rush County, Kansas, resident.  He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Liebenthal, Kansas, and  Schoenchen High School, Schoenchen, Kansas.

Over the years, Jerry worked for John Weitzel Manufacturing; Phillip Weitzel; Jim’s Champlin Service Station (Jim Herrman); Humburg’s; and the Rush County Nursing Home, all of La Crosse, Kansas.

He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Jerry enjoyed being outdoors.  Gardening, and mowing his yard were his favorite outdoor pastimes.  He also enjoyed reading.

On May 25, 1959, he married Neoma Spicka at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas.

Survivors include:  his wife, Neoma Kreutzer, La Crosse, Kansas; his son, Thomas “Tom” Kreutzer, La Crosse, Kansas; his granddaughter, Alisha Kreutzer, La Crosse, Kansas; his sister, Mary Virginia Schaffer, New Mexico; and his  buddy, Sparky, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timothy “Tim” Kreutzer; one brother, Francis Kreutzer; three sisters, Rose Zimmer, Melezina Allen, and Bernadette Augustine; and one infant sister, Mary Virginia Kreutzer.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 11, 2022, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.  A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Ruth Mary (Borman) Nation, 100, of Atwood, passed away August 24, 2022, 
in Atwood. She was born December 30, 1921, in Berryton, Kansas, to 
Michael Henry and Martha (Fink) Borman. Ruth attended the Bird City, KS 
grade school until the 8th grade.


When Ruth’s sister Gertrude graduated, in 1942, they left for California
 to work at the McDonnell Douglass airplane factory during the war. 
After the war, Ruth became an instructor at a sewing factory. Later she 
worked at an upholstery business making greyhound and school bus seats. 
She retired at the age of 66 and moved to Isabella Lake, CA. She enjoyed
 gardening and had peach, pear, and apricot trees. 


Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Martha; siblings,
 Esther Ammeman, of New Jersey, Helen Coram, of California, Jake Borman,
 of California, Henry Borman, of Bird City, KS, Freda Osgood, of Los 
Angeles, CA, Gertrude Richardson, of Fallbrook, CA, Leroy Borman, of 
Lima, OH, Edwin Borman, of Indianapolis, IN and Estella Austin, of 
Goodland, KS.


She is survived by her sister Martha Anderson; nephew Larry (Meghan) 
Anderson, and their boys Andrew, Erik and Ian Anderson and niece Linda 
Anderson, all of Atwood, along with many more nephews and nieces.


Private family inurnment took place at the Swedish Baptist Cemetery, 
east of Atwood. A Celebration of life will be held at a later date at 
the Good Samaritan Society, in Atwood.

Ruth Mary (Borman) Nation

Pauline (Walden) Heim of Hoxie, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, 
September 7, 2022, at the Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term Care.
 She was born in rural Sheridan County at the family farm, March 7, 1935,
 to Donald and Hazel (Shafer) Walden. Pauline attended Bow Creek 
Elementary School and attended Sheridan County High School graduating 
with the class of 1952. After graduation, she went to work for Getz IGA 
as a checker. It was a job she loved. 

Pauline met Jerome Heim, and they 
were married June 4, 1958, at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. 
Pauline and Jerome lived and raised their six children in Hoxie. Pauline
 and Jerome celebrated their 60th Anniversary June 4, 2018. They lived 
in town until 1988 when they moved to a farm East of town.

Pauline
 was a homemaker. She was a great cook and seamstress. She also enjoyed 
scrap booking. Pauline loved to garden and enjoyed planting and taking 
care of her many flower beds. She especially liked roses and peonies. 
Pauline and Jerome loved to travel. They visited Spain, Mexico, Brazil, 
Italy, and many other countries. Pauline collected dolls from every 
country they visited. She was also a collector of depression glass and 
pie birds. Most of all Pauline loved her family. One of her very 
favorite things to do was hang out with her Grandkids. She was a member 
of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and St. Frances Cabrini 
Sodality.

Pauline is survived by her children Sue Katt

September 7, 2022, at the Sheridan County Health Complex Long Term Care.
 She was born in rural Sheridan County at the family farm, March 7, 1935,
 to Donald and Hazel (Shafer) Walden. Pauline attended Bow Creek 
Elementary School and attended Sheridan County High School graduating 
with the class of 1952. After graduation, she went to work for Getz IGA 
as a checker. It was a job she loved. Pauline met Jerome Heim, and they 
were married June 4, 1958, at the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. 
Pauline and Jerome lived and raised their six children in Hoxie. Pauline
 and Jerome celebrated their 60th Anniversary June 4, 2018. They lived 
in town until 1988 when they moved to a farm East of town.Pauline
 was a homemaker. She was a great cook and seamstress. She also enjoyed 
scrap booking. Pauline loved to garden and enjoyed planting and taking 
care of her many flower beds. She especially liked roses and peonies. 
Pauline and Jerome loved to travel. They visited Spain, Mexico, Brazil, 
Italy, and many other countries. Pauline collected dolls from every 
country they visited. She was also a collector of depression glass and 
pie birds. Most of all Pauline loved her family. One of her very 
favorite things to do was hang out with her Grandkids. She was a member 
of the St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church and St. Frances Cabrini 
Sodality.Pauline is survived by her children Sue Katt

Lifelong Sharon Springs, KS resident, Lowell Duane Mather, 89, passed
 away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Colby Health and Rehab Center
 in Colby, KS.

Lowell was born on September 22, 1932, to Lowell George (Jimmy) and 
Beatrice Mae (Lewis) Mather on the farm in Wallace County.&nbsp; He was the 
oldest of three children.&nbsp; He attended school in Sharon Springs and 
graduated in 1950 from Wallace County High School.

After serving in the Army from 1953-1955, Lowell married Darla Dee 
Leitner in Goodland, KS on September 18, 1955.&nbsp; To this union, three 
children were born; Randall, Pamela and Michael.

Lowell loved farming and did so for most of his life.&nbsp; One of his 
biggest joys was taking care of all their cattle and animals that they 
had, with his family at this side.&nbsp; Lowell was very content being on the
 farm around his animals and dogs.&nbsp; He enjoyed helping his neighbors 
with whatever they needed, and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee or tea with 
them.&nbsp; He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.&nbsp; He
 was also very involved in the Baptist Church with serving as a deacon, 
Sunday school teacher, and helping with any other needs that the church 
may have had.&nbsp; He enjoyed target shooting and riding horses with his 
children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He and Darla also drove bus for the school 
and enjoyed being with the kids on the bus.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Donna Klinge and his brother Gary Mather.

Surviving family includes his wife Darla, his children Randall D. 
(Christi) Mather of Overland Park, KS, Pamela D. (Thomas) McDaniel of 
Scott City, KS and Michael D. (Trina) Mather of Sharon Springs, KS.&nbsp; He 
is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Dustin Mather of Independence, MO,

Health, Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; He was born November 20, 1928, in rural 
Stafford County to Herman F. and Flora M. (Bunselmeyer) Fischer.&nbsp; He 
married Norma J. LeRoy on October 17, 1948, at Peace Evangelical and 
Reformed United Church of Christ, Hudson, Kansas.&nbsp; She survives.&nbsp;

Herman was a current resident of Great Bend, coming from the Seward, 
Kansas, area.&nbsp; He was a long-time farmer and cattleman, raising 
registered Shorthorn cattle.&nbsp; He was a member of First Congregational 
United Church of Christ, Kansas Shorthorn Association, and Great Bend 
Masonic Lodge.&nbsp; He served on the Board of Directors of Midwest Energy 
for 38 years.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, of the home and three children, 
Rhonda Wineinger and husband Pat of Great Bend, Gregg Fischer of Great 
Bend and Debra Fischer of Houston, Texas and a sister, Donna Overholt 
Clausing and husband Larry of Tiffin, Ohio.&nbsp; Also surviving are three 
granddaughters: Ann Heine (Jeff) of Great Bend, Nikki Deeds (Zach) of 
Pratt, and Stacey Stump (Jeff) of St. John and seven 
great-grandchildren: Kiley, Trae, Branden, Rylee, August, Archer and 
Clara.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, 
Cheryl Jean Fischer; a daughter-in-law, Leann Fischer; and 
brother-in-law, Robert Overholt.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 11,
 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00

Richard A. Cramer, age 83 years, of Great Bend, Kansas and formerly 
of Hill City, Kansas, passed away on Friday morning, August 26, 2022, at 
the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus.&nbsp; 

Richard 
was born on February 22, 1939, at Omaha, Nebraska, to Donald T. and Elinor
 A. (Sprieck) Cramer.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Mary L. Kreuzburg on
 June 17, 1962, at Hiawatha, Kansas.&nbsp; Richard was a U.S. Army veteran, 
and worked as City Manager for the city of Hiawatha for two years and 
then as City Manager for the city of Hill City for fourteen years.&nbsp; He 
was also a self-employed auctioneer and did many benefit auctions over 
the years. Richard had served as Chairman of the Little Britches Rodeo 
and also the Jayhawker Roundup Rodeo in Hill City for many years.&nbsp; He 
was a 60-year member of Hiawatha Masonic Lodge #35 A.F. &amp; A.M. at 
Hiawatha and a member of the First Christian Church at Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Cramer of Great Bend, Kansas; two
 sons:&nbsp; Troy (&amp; Dawn) Cramer of Salina, Kansas and Travis L. (&amp; 
Janae) Cramer of Bennington, Kansas; one daughter, Tiffany (&amp; 
Taylor) Jones of Manhattan, Kansas; seven grandchildren:&nbsp; Taylor, Jacob,
 and Trevor Cramer, McKenzie and Malory Cramer, Levi and Hunter Jones.&nbsp;

and Ruth Josephine (Clark) Jantz.&nbsp; She graduated from Galva High School 
and was May Day Queen.

On December 17, 1971, Karen was united in 
marriage to Loren “Andy” L. Anderson in Miami, OK.&nbsp; They were married 
for 50 years before his passing on December 21, 2021.

Survivors 
include: three sons, Kevin Anderson (Lori) of McPherson, KS, Keith 
Anderson of St. George, UT, and Tony Adams (Angie) of Hays, KS; a 
brother, Gary Jantz (Debbe) of Newton, KS; six grandchildren, Colton 
Anderson (Parker), Tyson Anderson (Nicole), Aaron Anderson (Rachel), 
Travis Anderson (Rhoni), Colton Adams, and Dakota Adams; five

Karen Joan Anderson

Norman D. Hoard, 87, of Courtland, Kansas, was born August 21, 1935, to Charles and J. Marie (Mears) Hoard in Harveyville, KS. Norman peacefully passed from his earthly existence in his home, Friday, September 2, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Christmas of the same year, his family moved to a farm near Randall/Jewell, Kansas.&nbsp; Norman attended Randall Elementary schools until 7th&nbsp;grade, he then attended Formoso schools until his graduation in 1953.&nbsp;

On May 15,1954, he married Doris J. Dunstan and to this union were born three boys, Kevan, Kris, and Scott.&nbsp;

In August of 1954, Norman and Doris purchased the Standard Oil filling station on the West edge of Courtland. Through the years, Norman, Doris, and their sons worked together to make the business a success.&nbsp; Although he sold the business to his youngest son, Scott in 1999, he never really retired. You could find him there every day drinking coffee, reading newspapers to keep up on the latest sport statistics, sweeping, and greeting his longtime customers until his passing.

Norman found time to do some custom harvesting in his early years of farming. He enjoyed caring for feeder calves and maintaining his farm West of Courtland. No matter the season he would always find something to do at the farm, it was his peaceful place. He enjoyed coon hunting and bird hunting with his sons and took great pride in training his beloved coon hounds which he won several competitions with. He enjoyed getting kids involved in outdoor sports and served as a hunters education instructor for seven years.

Norman played a huge role in the lives of many children throughout his life.&nbsp; From coaching baseball for almost 20 years, carrying candy on the delivery truck, or handing out suckers at the station, children were the joy of his life.&nbsp; He lit up when they walked in the door and always took the time to make each one feel special and to help them, however he could.

&nbsp;He was a member of the Courtland Covenant Church, served on the Courtland Community Pride Club, the Caldwell Cemetery Board, and the Courtland Rural Water District # 1 Board member. He was a driving force behind the Formoso Alumni W. J. Baird Scholarship at Cloud County Community College.

Proceeding him in death are his wife Doris (Dunstan) Hoard, parents Charles and Josie Marie Hoard, brothers Richard, Milton, and Dale.&nbsp;

He is survived by his three sons, Kevan (Lori) Hoard of Minneapolis, KS, Kris (Juli) Hoard of Concordia, KS, Scott (Brenda) Hoard of Webber, KS;&nbsp; five grandchildren, Bryan of Wichita, Melanie of Salina, Emily of Concordia, Madeline of Hays, and Noah of Webber;&nbsp; seven&nbsp;stepgrandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2022, from the Courtland Covenant Church in Courtland, KS officiated by Pastor Kathy Aeillo.&nbsp; Interment will be held at the Caldwell Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, Kansas from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday where the family will greet friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Norman peacefully passed from his earthly existence in his home, Friday, September 2, 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;Christmas of the same year, his family moved to a farm near Randall/Jewell, Kansas.&nbsp; Norman attended Randall Elementary schools until 7th&nbsp;grade, he then attended Formoso schools until his graduation in 1953.&nbsp;On May 15,1954, he married Doris J. Dunstan and to this union were born three boys, Kevan, Kris, and Scott.&nbsp;In August of 1954, Norman and Doris purchased the Standard Oil filling station on the West edge of Courtland. Through the years, Norman, Doris, and their sons worked together to make the business a success.&nbsp; Although he sold the business to his youngest son, Scott in 1999, he never really retired. You could find him there every day drinking coffee, reading newspapers to keep up on the latest sport statistics, sweeping, and greeting his longtime customers until his passing.Norman found time to do some custom harvesting in his early years of farming. He enjoyed caring for feeder calves and maintaining his farm West of Courtland. No matter the season he would always find something to do at the farm, it was his peaceful place. Thomas Lloyd Beatty, 74, of Luray, Kansas,&nbsp;went to Heaven with the Lord,&nbsp;on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;after a valiant battle with&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;health issues.

Thomas&nbsp;was born&nbsp;on May 25, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Lloyd&nbsp;R. and Bertha Maude(Reiss) Beatty. &nbsp;He grew up in the&nbsp;Amherst&nbsp;area and&nbsp;graduated from Luray High School in the class of 1966&nbsp;where he enjoyed&nbsp;playing&nbsp;football. &nbsp;After high school, Tom&nbsp;attended Fort Hays&nbsp;State&nbsp;University in Hays, Kansas&nbsp;where&nbsp;he&nbsp;played football. &nbsp;He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Renita Rae Schilling on June 18, 1994,&nbsp;in Onaga, Kansas. &nbsp;From this&nbsp;union,&nbsp;Tom&nbsp;and Renita were blessed with 5 children Shawn, Dylan, Austin, Jamie and Dakota. &nbsp;He&nbsp;lived, worked his whole life,&nbsp;and raised his family,&nbsp;on the Beatty family farm. &nbsp;He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39 years as a&nbsp;highway&nbsp;maintenance&nbsp;employee.&nbsp;

He was a longtime member of the Amherst United Methodist&nbsp;Church&nbsp;of&nbsp;Waldo, Kansas. &nbsp;He&nbsp;was also a member of the Lions Club of Luray, Kansas, Elks Lodge of Russell, Kansas, Luray Senior Center&nbsp;Broad Member &amp; President&nbsp;of Luray,&nbsp;Kansas,&nbsp;and a Hunter Safety Master Instructor. &nbsp;He enjoyed working and taking care of the family farm and&nbsp;being outdoors. &nbsp;He also enjoyed&nbsp;doing leather work, hunting and fishing.&nbsp;&nbsp;His love for the&nbsp;outdoors was only surpassed by&nbsp;the&nbsp;love he had for his family&nbsp;and friends,especially his kids and grandkids.

Surviving family include his&nbsp;wife Renita of the home;&nbsp;daughter Jamie Edwards and husband Emmanuel of Wellington, Kansas; sons Shawn Beatty and wife Misty of Sylvan&nbsp;Grove, Kansas, Dylan Beatty and wife Megan of Hutchinson, Kansas, Austin Beatty and wife Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and Dakota&nbsp;Beatty and&nbsp;spouse&nbsp;Nicole of Lucas, Kansas&nbsp;and 18 grandchildren.&nbsp;He is also survived by many Friends&nbsp;and Family members.&nbsp;&nbsp;He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor.

Roberta Lynn “Birdie” Schutte, 56, of Colby, died Sunday, September 4, 
2022, at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby. She was born January 30, 
1966, in Kennewick, WA, to Albert and Cora (Garner) Williams. Birdie 
received her high school diploma and went on to work at the Colby Free 
Press for 20 years. She had also worked at Fairview Estates in Colby. 
Birdie enjoyed fishing and going to garage sales. She especially loved 
Elvis. On July 20, 1986, Birdie married Otto “Butch” Schutte Jr. 
Birdie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Otto. 
She is survived by her children, Roy (Leann) Williams, of Menlo, KS, 
Billy (Ashley) Turner, Gem, KS, Rosemary Rhan, Colby, KS and Otto 
Schutte, III (fiancé Holly Jannamon), of Colby, siblings, Kathleen

Kathy Lynn Nowlan Powell, 61, Springdale, KS passed away Thursday, September 1, 2022, after a prolonged hospital stay. She was born December 13, 1960, to William and Helen Nowlan in Mansfield, OH. She moved with her parents and older brother to Memphis, TN and graduated from Raleigh Egypt High School. 

Her family moved to Kansas, which is where she met the love of her life. She was united in marriage to Thomas S. Powell on January 30, 1982, in Leavenworth, KS. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Sterling College and her master’s degree from MidAmerica Nazarene University. She spent over two decades teaching 4th and 5th grade at Tonganoxie Elementary School until she retired. Even after retirement, she enjoyed serving as a substitute teacher. She was an active member of First Christian Church in Leavenworth, KS. She loved teaching at Vacation Bible School and spending time with her “Church Ladies” from church. One of her greatest joys was delivering toys to abused and neglected children at the Tennyson Center in Denver, CO. She was very talented with crafting and woodworking and enjoyed making projects for her friends and family. She was an animal lover and never met a dog she didn’t love or a stray cat she wouldn’t adopt.

Kathy was a beloved mother and grandmother. She is survived by her 
two sons, Thomas W. Powell (Chelsea), Hays, KS and David M. Powell 
(Amy), Cumming, GA, her brother Patrick T. Nowlan, Memphis, TN, and her 
grandson Thomas S. Powell, Hays, KS. She was preceded in death by her 
husband, Thomas Powell, her parents, William and Helen Nowlan, her 
mother and father-in-law, Thomas and Donna Powell, and her 
brother-in-law, Timothy Powell.

Visitation and funeral service will be held at First Christian 
Church, Leavenworth, KS. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, 
September 8, 2022. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, 
September 9, 2022. Burial will be at Mount Muncie Cemetery.

Wayne E. Funk, 78, of Milberger, Kansas, died on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

Wayne was born on July 31, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Emanuel and Elsie (Wilhelm) Funk. &nbsp;He grew up on the family farm in the southwest corner of Russell&nbsp;County&nbsp;and&nbsp;graduated from Otis High School. &nbsp;After high school he joined the Kansas Army National Guard. &nbsp;He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Janet J. Becker on August 7, 1966, at the United&nbsp;Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. &nbsp;From this union&nbsp;Wayne and Janet&nbsp;were blessed with 3 sons Doug, Warren and Deric. &nbsp;Wayne worked as a farmer and cattleman and they made their&nbsp;home on the family&nbsp;farm&nbsp;in&nbsp;rural Russell&nbsp;County, Kansas. &nbsp;Wayne was a member of the&nbsp;United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger and served on the church counsel. &nbsp;He was a member of&nbsp;severalRussell County boards including the&nbsp;Fair board,&nbsp;Water District #3 Board,&nbsp;Extension&nbsp;Board,&nbsp;Winterset Township Board&nbsp;and&nbsp;was a&nbsp;Republican&nbsp;Precinct&nbsp;Committeeman. &nbsp;He enjoyed drag racing, tractor pulling, bowling&nbsp;and singing. &nbsp;Most of all&nbsp;he enjoyed spending time with&nbsp;his family. &nbsp;He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities and events.

Funk, 78, of Milberger, Kansas, died on Monday, September 5, 2022, at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.Wayne was born on July 31, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Emanuel and Elsie (Wilhelm) Funk. &nbsp;He grew up on the family farm in the southwest corner of Russell&nbsp;County&nbsp;and&nbsp;graduated from Otis High School. &nbsp;After high school he joined the Kansas Army National Guard. &nbsp;He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Janet J. Elzina E. Scott, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Wheatland Nursing&nbsp;Home in Russell.

Elzina was born November 29, 1931, in Russell County. &nbsp;She was the daughter of John and Lydia (Lohmann) Maier. &nbsp;She&nbsp;grew up and&nbsp;attended&nbsp;Cromwell Country&nbsp;School&nbsp;south of Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp;She was baptized and confirmed at Bender Hill&nbsp;Lutheran Church in rural Russell.&nbsp;Elzina&nbsp;had a strong Lutheran faith and was a&nbsp;member&nbsp;of the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma and later&nbsp;the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.

Elzina later moved to Russell where she worked as a&nbsp;Nurses Aid&nbsp;at the Russell Regional Hospital&nbsp;for over 30 years and was honored as Employee of the&nbsp;Year in 1983.&nbsp;She loved and raised her three children&nbsp;in Russell&nbsp;early on,&nbsp;and&nbsp;then&nbsp;remarried and moved her family to a farm north of Paradise where she was a&nbsp;hard-working&nbsp;farm wife. She later left the farm and moved close to&nbsp;her&nbsp;daughter for awhile and then retired and moved to Russell where she could be&nbsp;around&nbsp;her&nbsp;many friends as she got older.

Elzina always loved polka dancing and hosted&nbsp;several&nbsp;of her own birthday dances. She was&nbsp;very&nbsp;active,&nbsp;and she enjoyed traveling,&nbsp;watching&nbsp;sports,&nbsp;knitting,&nbsp;walking and working outdoors.&nbsp;Elzina&nbsp;was always ready to help where she could. She did volunteer work for KOOD TV, the Red Cross, meals on wheels, the Trinity Thrift&nbsp;Store, and the VFW&nbsp;Women’s&nbsp;Auxiliary.

Elzina’s surviving family include&nbsp;her daughter, Deborah&nbsp;Maupin (Tom) of Paradise,&nbsp;Kansas; sons, Phillip Bealby (Junette) of&nbsp;Marion, Kansas and Bradley Bealby (Linda) of Woodland Park, Colorado; brother, Sidney Maier of&nbsp;Minneola, Kansas; seven grandchildren,&nbsp;21&nbsp;great grandchildren&nbsp;and 1&nbsp;great&nbsp;great&nbsp;grandchild.

Elzina was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sisters and three brothers.

A&nbsp;memorial service to celebrate Elzina’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peele Mortuary in Russell,&nbsp;Kansas. &nbsp;

Visitation&nbsp;for&nbsp;Elzina will be Friday,&nbsp;September&nbsp;16,&nbsp;2022,&nbsp;from&nbsp;9&nbsp;AM to&nbsp;7&nbsp;PM,&nbsp;at&nbsp;the mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from&nbsp;5&nbsp;PM to&nbsp;7&nbsp;PM, Friday evening.&nbsp;&nbsp;A private burial of&nbsp;her&nbsp;ashes will take place at a later time. &nbsp;

Memorials have been&nbsp;established with the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary or the Trinity Thrift Store. &nbsp;

James Francis “Jim”&nbsp;Robben, age 63, of Victoria, Kansas, died Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on August 11, 1959, in&nbsp;Hays,&nbsp;Kansas, to Norbert F. and Theresa (Rajewski) Robben. &nbsp;He married Crystal M. (Berens) on February 11, 1983 in&nbsp;Victoria,&nbsp;Kansas.

He was co-owner of T &amp; J Construction&nbsp;for a few years, owned AAA Mobile Glass for ten years,&nbsp;he owned and operated&nbsp;Robben Oil Service Station for over 35 years.

He was&nbsp;a&nbsp;member&nbsp;of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas,&nbsp;Victoria Knights of Columbus Council # 1861,&nbsp;a 1977 graduate of Victoria High School, and a graduate of North Central Kansas Technical College, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;He&nbsp;enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, camping,&nbsp;and&nbsp;traveling. He was&nbsp;a sports fan of KU basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs, and his grandkids&nbsp;were # 1.

Burial will be in Saint Ann’s Cemetery, Walker, Kansas.

A vigil service with a Victoria Knights of Columbus and&nbsp;Class of 1977 rosary will be at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M. Thursday, and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Friday, at The Basilica of St. Fidelis.

The family suggest memorials payable to the organization: St. Ann’s Cemetery Fund,Western Kansas Child Advocacy Center of Hays&nbsp;or Masses&nbsp;in care of the mortuary.&nbsp;
