Devin Lavon Shockley

Devin Lavon Shockley, age 61, youngest son of Harold and Eileen Shockley, was born Dec. 12, 1960, in Smith Center.

He departed his earthly life on Sept. 23, 2022. He spent his childhood on the family farm southwest of Athol, and attended Kensington schools graduating from high school in 1979.

He attended Sunday school and was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church of rural Athol. He married Crystal Lynn Mosier on April 15, 1987, and their family included four sons and one daughter. The marriage was later dissolved.

Devin was a farmer, mechanic and actively involved in the volunteer fire department in Athol for 37 years, serving as fire chief for several of those years. He also served as mayor of Athol, but the role he enjoyed most was being Papa to his grandchildren.

Survivors include step-sons John Mosier, Joe Mosier (Sandra Cox), sons Joshua (Jessica) and Jordan (Shaunna Ruder), daughter Jennifer (Daniel) Saltsman , grandson Nathan Shockley, granddaughters Emily Saltsman and Olivia Mosier, sister Kathy (Russ) Pierce, brother Gayle (Kathy) Shockley.

Preceded in death by parents Harold and Eileen Shockley, grandparents Henry and Lovena Henkel and Thomas E. and Erma Shockley.
