A federal appeals court in Washington has dismissed one of several ongoing lawsuits charging that President Donald Trump has illegally profited off the presidency. 

The lawsuit the court dismissed Friday was filed by Democratic members of Congress in 2017. The court was not ruling on whether Trump violated the law. 

It just said that the approximately 200 members of Congress who brought the lawsuit lack the ability to sue. 

The lawsuit had charged that the president violated the U.S. Constitution's emoluments clause by accepting benefits to his businesses from foreign governments without congressional approval.

Appeals court dismisses Democrats' lawsuit against Trump

WICHITA, KAN.&nbsp;– Federal charges were filed Friday against three Kansas men in connection with an armed robbery at a convenience store in Newton that ended with a chase and crash in Salina, according to U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister.

Jeremiah Urias, 18;&nbsp;Rico Montes, 27, and&nbsp;Jorge Correa, 25, all of Wichita,&nbsp; were charged with committing a robbery Feb. 4 at EZ Trip, 100 S. Main in Newton.

A criminal complaint filed in the case alleges two robbers entered the store before 6 a.m. One of the robbers in a red hoodie pointed a handgun at a clerk and demanded money, which the clerk gave him. Then a second robber carrying a military style rifle demanded more money. While waiting for the money, the second robber walked around the store firing shots into the ceiling and into an ATM.

Investigators used surveillance footage to identify a license tag number of the getaway vehicle. After a high speed pursuit, the Kansas Highway Patrol arrested the three defendants. Urias was driving. Montes was wearing a red hoodie and sitting in the front passenger seat. Correa was sitting in the back seat with a rifle.

If convicted, the defendants could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000

Federal charges filed against 3 for Kansas armed robbery

SALINE COUNTY —One person was injured in an accident just after 6a.m. Thursday in Saline County.

A 2003 Mazda B400 pickup driven by Camden Spano-Lund, 17, of rural Saline County was eastbound on Country Club Road west of Whitmore Road, according to&nbsp;Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan 

The pickup drifted off the north side of the road then went back toward the south side, rolled, and came to rest on its top.

&nbsp;Just after 7:30 a.m., a passerby noticed the pickup on its top and called in authorities.

 When deputies arrived, Spano-Lund was gone, as he had been able to exit the pickup and walk to a nearby residence, according to Soldan.

Someone at the residence called the boy's father, who picked him up and took him to Salina Regional Health Center for treatment of a possible head injury and could not remember what had happened in the accident, according to Soldan.

GREAT BEND — April 28 will be the date that voters will be asked a
second time to determine whether a school bond issue should pass for USD
428, but Assistant Superintendent John Popp says the latest proposal will have
more options for the voters. 

Although there will be $39,105,000 worth of
renovations on the bond question to potentially choose from, voters will be
able to choose between a combination of four questions.


"I feel like this package lays out separate costs so people can vote for whatever they feel like voting for," said Popp.&nbsp;


Question one, worth $28,045,000 must pass before the remaining three can be
approved. The first question dives into safety and security improvements, storm
shelters, renovations and additions to all the school buildings and the Washington
Special Services building.

"If the voters are not interested in raising taxes, they have that opportunity as well," said Popp.


A mail-in ballot failed last September when the Great Bend school district
broke the bond up into two questions, with the first one costing $41.75
million.

"It is a really good question to ask the community," Popp added. "Are we interested in moving forward?"


The April election will go away from the mail-in format and open polling places
for voters to cast their choice.

Great Bend schools set to take another run at bond issue

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Kansas City Chiefs fan said he took a “professional NFL hit" when he slammed into a parking meter while trying to catch a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes during the team's Super Bowl victory parade.

Forty-three-year-old LaRue Bell, whose collision was caught on video, said that the pass was intended for him but that the defender/parking meter denied him the opportunity Wednesday.

“That was my Super Bowl," said Bell, who acknowledged he was feeling a little sore when he arrived Thursday at his job with National Beef Leathers in St. Joseph, where he noticed coworkers laughing at the video of the failed pass on social media.

He soon learned millions of others also were watching it on social media. Even Mahomes checked in on Twitter, asking “Yo is the dude who hit the parking meter okay."

by the Kansas Association of Broadcasters to receive the KSHSAA Oscar 
Stauffer Sportscaster of the Year Award for 2020.

Grunwald is the 
voice of the Hutchinson High Salthawks and also broadcasts the 
Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragon football and men's basketball 
teams.

Grunwald joins a fraternity of the state's finest 
broadcasters, including former winners, longtime KU voice Bob Davis 
(1975) and and K-State voice 
Wyatt Thompson (1989). 

Eagle Radio as a company currently employs
 six winners. Dewey Terrill won in 1991, 1995 and 1998. Gerard Wellbrock

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating after a body was found in a burning SUV in Wichita and have identified the victim as 17-year-old Elisabeth Renteria of Wichita.&nbsp;

Just before 4 a.m. on January 29, officers responded to a check shots call in the area of Battin and Osie in Wichita, according to officer Charley Davidson. Police located a 2002 Ford Expedition engulfed in flames, in a grassy area near an apartment building on Elpyco.

The Wichita Fire Department (WFD) responded to assist on the call and extinguished the fire. After the fire was extinguished, Renteria’s body was found inside.&nbsp; Investigators are working with the Regional Forensic Science Center to determine the cause of death.

On January 30, police arrested Laura Branning, 30, on requested charges of arson and criminal desecration: unauthorized control of a dead body.&nbsp;&nbsp;Through the investigation, investigators were able to determine Branning’s involvement in the fire of the Expedition.

The investigation is ongoing, and investigators are doing further interviews on the case. The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office. Additionally, Branning has previously been arrested and convicted on charges that include flee/attempt to elude a law enforcement officer and possession of narcotic drugs.

Police: Body found in burning SUV was 17-year-old Kan. girl

FINNEY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man for an alleged assault.

Just after 10:00p.m. Sunday, Police were dispatched to the East side of Garden City, in reference to an aggravated assault in progress, according to&nbsp;Sergeant Lana Urteaga.

GCPD Communications told the officers, the woman who called, said the man was trying to kill her and had a shotgun pointed at her face.

Upon arrival, Officers quickly apprehended the man identified as 24-year-old Keith Hicks, Garden City, on the front steps of his residence.

Investigation revealed the man and woman were known to each other and in a dating relationship when an argument ensued over the Super Bowl. When the opposing team won, Hicks became angry and allegedly battered the woman and pointed a gun in her face stating he was going to kill her.

Hicks is being held in the Finney County Jail, and an affidavit was filed with the Finney County Attorney’s office requesting charges of Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Assault, Criminal Threat, and Endangering a Child.

SALINA — Dick Vitale is living the dream and then some, baby!

"I've lived a life that's exceeded any dream, I mean, come on, making a living doing something you love," the 80-year-old former coach and current college basketball analyst said Thursday evening.

Dickie V, as he is known in basketball arenas throughout the country, was in Salina Thursday to speak at the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet.

Vitale credits his parents for guiding him on his life journey. He said his parents were factory workers with fifth-grade educations, however he noted that they each had "a doctorate of love."

"They taught my brother, sister, and I in this great country, if you have passion about what you do, and you do it to the best of your ability, a lot of beautiful things are going to happen," he said.

Vitale said he carries with him to this day what his parents taught him.

The cruelty of others and the love of his mother

Vitale explained that when he was a boy, he lost the use of his left eye and that it would wander, not looking in the same direction as his right eye.

"I thought it was the end of the world," he said.

His mother, however, bolstered his feelings, telling the young Richie, as he was known as then, that he had something that others didn't: his spirit and excitement for life.

"Don't let them hold you back," his mother told him.

Vitale recalled being a little league pitcher and hearing other children's parents ridiculing him because of his eye.

"I went home and I cried like a baby. I had to go in my room and my mother would say 'what are you crying about?' Those people, they're all ridiculing my eye. I'm 12 years old. She inspired me. She said 'don't let them get the best of you,'" he said.

Fast-forward to when his two daughters were young and his wife, Lorraine, took them to have their eyes checked.

"The doctor says, by any chance, I noticed the name is Vitale. Are you, by any chance, related to Dick Vitale? She says 'yeah, that's my husband,'" Vitale recalled.

He said the doctor told Lorraine, "I'm a big basketball fan and I watch the games on TV. Has anyone ever talked to him about his eye...about correcting that eye?"

Lorraine told the doctor that Dick's mother had taken him to a number of doctors and received all sorts of reports. The doctor told Lorraine that he was talking about correcting movement in the eye so that it worked with the good eye, Vitale said. She went home and told him what the doctor had told her, but he wasn't interested.

An incident later, however, would prompt Vitale to pay a visit to the doctor. He explained that one day, after walking out of the studio, he asked the receptionist whether there were any calls. She replied, that just one guy had called and he had made her really mad because he he'd kept calling and demanding the company president's phone number. It seems the caller wanted to get Vitale off the air because he couldn't stand looking at Vitale's eye.

"It was like a knife went through me. It brought back the memories of little league," he said.

Vitale explained that he went home, called his boss -- Steve Anderson -- and told him that he was done with television and was going back into coaching because he was being ridiculed about his eye.

"He said 'Dick, we hired you because of your enthusiasm, your knowledge,'" Vitale said.

"I was crushed, so I told my wife I wanted to quit and coach and she said, 'don't be ridiculous!'" he added.

Eventually, Vitale went to see the doctor, a pediatric opthamologist, who told him he would make an exception and work on Vitale's eye.

Vitale's enthusiasm shines through

It's easy to see Vitale's enthusiasm for what he does, but what is his favorite part?

"I love being in the arena. Go to Kansas. When I went there for Rock Chock Jayhawk last Saturday, I walked in and the kids chanting "Dickie V" going in. I mean, I'm 80 years old and they treat me like ...you know, its unreal. Same thing the other night at Carolina-Florida State. It will happen again probably Saturday. I'm doing Indiana-Purdue. I love it. I eat, sleep, and drink it," Vitale said.

"It's not work. It is absolutely stealing money! To sit at court side. The best games in the country, week in and week out. I'd do it for nothing, basically, because I love doing it. And I think that's what keeps me going," he continued. "People say, where do you get your passion and your energy? Very simply, if you're doing something that you love, and you wake up and you're excited to go, its going to really give you that impetus, and that's what it does for me. It really, really excites me. I can't wait for the next game."

Anti-abortion groups argue that without restrictions, clinics will return to being unsafe.

Abortion rights supporters find the argument ironic — and grating — after arguing for decades that women were forced to undergo abortions in unsafe conditions when terminating a pregnancy wasn’t legal. They contend the amendment eventually will lead to an abortion ban — and return to the conditions that abortion opponents are claiming they want to prevent.

“Taking that pro-choice argument and flipping it on its head to suit the anti-choice argument — it really muddies the water,” said Julie Burkhart, CEO of the Trust Women Foundation, which operates a Wichita clinic that performs abortion.

The proposed amendment&nbsp;<a href="http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2019_20/measures/vote_view/je_20200206111237_496015/" target="_blank">cleared the Senate</a>&nbsp;last week, so House approval would put the question on the ballot in the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/a48dc1842047ec21ceb6e71f67886493">state’s August primary,&nbsp;</a>when approval by a simple majority of voters would change the state constitution. However, supporters didn’t yet appear Thursday to have the two-thirds majority in the House they will need to pass it.

“Isn’t the thought of unregulated abortion repugnant to everyone in this chamber?” said Rep. Susan Humphries, a Wichita Republican, who led anti-abortion House members in the debate.

The vote Thursday was&nbsp;<a href="http://www.kslegislature.org/li/b2019_20/measures/vote_view/je_20200206111237_496015/" target="_blank">80-41,</a>&nbsp;and set up another final vote Friday in the House. The amendment’s backers will need 84 of 125 votes to pass it then, and they were working to bring reluctant lawmakers on board.

Republicans hold exactly 84 seats, but four of them broke with their GOP colleagues to vote no Thursday. Four Democrats did not vote, but House Minority Leader Tom Sawyer, a Wichita Democrat, said he believes none of them would have voted yes.

U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, a Democrat representing the Kansas side of the Kansas City area in Congress, even jumped in,<a href="https://twitter.com/sharicedavids/status/1225538092775411719" target="_blank">tweeting a 30-second ad&nbsp;</a>showing her wearing pink boxing gloves with Planned Parenthood logos. Davids is former mixed-martial arts fighter.

“Make no mistake, this is a political attack on our fundamental political rights that will set Kansas back decades,” she said in the ad.

Yet anti-abortion lawmakers and groups said they were confident about Friday’s vote.

“It’s simply about letting the people decide,” said Brittany Jones, advocacy director for the conservative Family Policy Alliance of Kansas. “This is our No. 1 issue. A vote against this is a vote against life.”

Under the proposed amendment, the Legislature could restrict abortion “to the extent permitted” by federal court decisions, including the historic Roe v. Wade decision in 1973 legalizing abortion across the nation.

Rep. Susan Concannon, a Republican from western Kansas, said the measure is not even “baby steps” toward a ban.

Instead, supporters said, they’re protecting regulations, such as a 24-hour waiting period and parental notification for most minors, to protect patients. They believe the Kansas Supreme Court’s ruling signals that it would overturn most or even all of the raft of restrictions enacted over the past decade.

Abortion opponents in Kansas have long sought to blunt criticism of their proposals as a potential attacks on women’s rights by having women lead the push for them in the Legislature. They’ve even labeled their latest measure the “Value Them Both” amendment to declare that they are also concerned about ensuring that women receive good and well-regulated health care.

And Rep. Renee Erickson, another Wichita Republican who backs the proposed amendment, said she recently received an email from someone who served as a student nurse in the 1950s. Erickson said the writer remembered caring for a 16-year-old girl who’d died after “a back alley abortion,” adding, “the stench coming from her wound lingers with me today.”

“This should never have happened, and we should make sure that it never happens again, not in Kansas, not on our watch,” Erickson said. “This resolution before us does not restrict a woman’s ability to choose an abortion, just that if she does, she deserves basic safeguards for her health and well-being.”

But abortion rights advocates have argued for years that terminating a pregnancy became a safe medical procedure — and statistically safer than childbirth — after it became legal. Rep. Stephanie Clayton, a Kansas City-area Democrat, said she agreed with Erickson’s remarks about preventing back alley abortions, “which is why I will vote no.”

“I did find it a bit ironic,” Clayton said after the debate. “This does lead to a ban — if nothing else, further restrictions — leading to more back alley abortions.”

Kansas fight over abortion has debate turned 'on its head'

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) —A Kansas woman has been convicted of first-degree murder in the decapitation death of her ex-boyfriend's mother, whose head she left in the kitchen sink.

Prosecutors say Rachael Hilyard cut off 63-year-old Micki Davis' head using two steak knives on April 9, 2017. Hilyard was convicted Thursday and sentencing is set for March 27.

A prosecutor said the 38-year-old Hilyard attacked Davis without provocation then grabbed a knife “to finish what she started.”

Hilyard testified that she thought Davis was dead when she cut off her head. Her defense attorney says his client made bad decisions with horrible consequences.

But he didn't say what that charge might be during a brief opening statement.

Prosecutors introduced evidence including testimony from the police officers who discovered Davis’ body in Hilyard’s garage, a taped law enforcement interview with Davis' 9-year-old grandson who called 911 when Hilyard attacked his grandmother, and photos of the crime scene.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —The jury trial for a Kansas woman accused in the decapitation death of her ex-boyfriend's mother is underway in Sedgwick County, according to the district attorney's office.

Davis was attacked after she went with her 9-year-old grandson to a home to retrieve property belonging to her son. The boy ran away and called 911.

In August, Hilyard underwent a mental health evaluation at Larned State Hospital and then a judge  ruled that she was competent to stand trial.&nbsp;

Update: Kan. woman convicted of beheading ex-boyfriend's mother

DOUGLAS COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a robbery and have released security camera images of the suspect.

Just after 1:30 p.m. Thursday, officers from the police responded to a possible armed robbery at the Check Into Cash, 2108 W. 27th&nbsp;Street in Lawrence, according to police spokesman Patrick Compton.

It was reported that a heavyset white male, approximately&nbsp; 5-foot-7,&nbsp; and 220 pounds, wearing sunglasses, a plaid shirt and dark vest, entered the business, indicated that he was in possession of a weapon and demanded money.

The suspect fled northwest on foot with an undisclosed sum of money.

The Commission supports modernizing and strengthening the rules to ensure all consumers have the basic information to make informed choices regarding their communications services. A report released by the FCC last year showed increases in both residential and business use of Internet phone service, also known as interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol or VoIP.

The KCC does not have regulatory authority over internet services, therefore expanding the current rules at the federal level is critical in order to provide VoIP customers important protections. The Truth-in-Billing rules require service providers to separate line item fees on consumer bills, clearly identifying government–mandated fees from fees a service provider uses to cover its own costs. This disclosure allows consumers to make an informed choice based on all charges and review anything beyond the price paid for service.

The FCC is taking public comments on the proposed rule change through February 12.

KCC supports expansion of federal Truth-in-Billing rules for VoIP

SEDGWICK COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on numerous charges after a chase and crash.

Just after 1a.m. Wednesday, police attempted to initiate a traffic stop Pontiac Grand Am for speeding on West Kellogg in Wichita, according to officer Paul Cruz.

The driver later identified as Tykwon Branch, 19, Wichita, refused to stop and a police chased. Branch exited onto West Street and threw an object from the vehicle that was later determined to be marijuana, according to&nbsp; Cruz.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Branch lost control of the vehicle and struck a curb and a street sign pole. He exited the car, ran from officers but was quickly taken into custody without further incident.

Branch is <a href="https://ssc.sedgwickcounty.org/sheriffinmates/SheriffInmateDetail.aspx?nameId=20065212">being held on requested </a>charges of felony evade and elude, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and numerous traffic violations.

5 guards injured at Hutchinson Correctional Facility

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A conservative legislator in Kansas is pursuing a proposal to prevent transgender high school and middle school students from playing on sports teams aligned with their gender identities, and LGBTQ rights advocates are trying to kill it even before he can formally introduce it.

Equality Kansas, the state's leading LGBTQ rights group, had a Statehouse news conference Thursday to denounce the proposal from Republican Rep. Michael Capps, of Wichita. The group's executive director was joined by the state's two openly LGBTQ legislators, Democratic Reps. Brandon Woodard and Susan Ruiz, both from the Kansas City area.

The group released a draft copy of the measure, and Capps confirmed to reporters that it was his proposal, through he said it's still not final. The measure would require the Kansas State High School Activities Association to limit students in “gender-specific” sports to teams associated with their “gender at birth.” It would prohibit a “biological” boy from participating in a sport “conducted exclusively” for girls and vice-versa.

Woodard called the bill “repugnant,” and Ruiz decried it as “bullying” of LGBTQ students. Tom Witt, Equality Kansas' executive director, said Capps and any potential cosponsors are “picking on little kids” and called on Capps to withdraw his proposal so that it's never introduced.

“Bills like this are why young LGBTQ kids die by suicide,” Woodard said.

Legislators in at least seven other states are pursuing similar measures, according to the American Civil Liberties Union. In Kansas, the activities association oversees activities in 355 member high schools and 408 middle or junior high schools, most of them public. For about 10 years, it has had a policy under which schools can allow transgender students to be on teams associated with their gender identities.

Capps told reporters that his goal is “athletic protection for girls.”

“A biological girl wants to be able to be in a competitive sport with other biological girls,” Capps said. “It's fairness in competition. Biological girls do not want to be playing against biological boys.”

He added: “There's nothing in the language that's designed to be harmful to the LGBTQ community.”

Bill Faflick, the association's executive director, said it receives a notification required by the policy of “a handful” transgender students each year playing sports. He said he couldn't comment on the legislation because he hasn't seen it.

“Every (local school) district handles this in a way that suits their community,” Witt said. “Schools are run by adults who care for for the kids who are in their charge, who aren't trying to make examples of them, who aren't trying to attack them.”

Witt and the two Democratic lawmakers argued that instead of pursuing Capps' proposal, the Republican-controlled Legislature should expand the state's anti-discrimination law to prohibit anti-LGBTQ bias in employment, housing and public accommodations. Witt's group also has proposed legislation to ban the use of “conversion therapy” on minors.

And, in criticizing the bill as targeting kids, Witt also issued a separate statement that Capps “already has a reputation of inappropriate behavior with children.”

Capps won his seat in 2018 despite calls from fellow Republicans to end his campaign over a woman's allegations that he allowed two of her foster children to sit in his lap and rub his chest in 2017. A state Department of Children and Families report obtained by The Associated Press, showed that the agency "affirmed” a finding of “emotional abuse” by Capps and said there were “concerns about Mike's boundaries.”

But Capps vigorously denied the allegations, and the agency's finding was reversed on appeal by an administrative hearing officer because the department did not “file a proper agency summary.” Capps was not prosecuted.

The whereabouts of Dolores Perez are unknown, and the public’s assistance is requested to help locate her.

Perez is a Hispanic female, 5-foot-3 in. tall, weighing approximately 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Perez’s family reported her missing, and she was last seen with Juan Carlos Gonzalez on Jan. 22. She may be in Kansas, or may have traveled to Nebraska, Minnesota, or Texas.

KBI, Ford County Sheriff’s office search for missing teen

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Officers who stopped an allegedly impaired driver to end a high-speed chase along the route of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade decided not to shoot at the car or bump it until it slowed down because they feared it could swerve into fans who were already gathering for the celebration, the city’s police chief said Thursday.

Addae Doyle, of Kansas City, Kansas, was charged Thursday in Kansas City, Missouri, with one count each of resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, prosecutors said.

About three hours before the parade began Wednesday, Doyle, 42, drove through a 6-foot barrier at the start of the 2-mile route and reached speeds of up to 60 mph, even after the car’s tires were stripped bare by driving over Stop Sticks, police Chief Rick Smith said at a news conference. Officers were able to slow down the car when it turned, force it into a spin and box it in as it reached an intersection near Union Station, where the route ended and the rally was later held.

Smith and Mayor Quinton Lucas praised members of the Kansas City and Independence police departments and the Clay County (Missouri) Sheriff’s Office for their decision-making and restraint when stopping the car before anyone got injured, including Doyle and a passenger in his car.

Smith said many officers along the route were pushing people out of the way and several wanted to intervene to stop the car “but we were terrified that car would veer off the course, go through the security fence and hit pedestrians that were lining either side of the street.” He also said several officers, including snipers along the route, considered shooting the driver.

“We were very fortunate this ended when it did and how it did,” Smith said. “I can’t thank these officers enough for their decision-making, their abilities, their skill to get this ended correctly. They did a helluva job.”

Officers found what turned out to be methamphetamine in the car, and preliminary toxicology results showed that Doyle tested positive for meth and cocaine, prosecutors said in a news release, noting that further charges were likely. Prosecutors didn’t release the name of the the passenger who was arrested or say whether that person faces any charges.

Smith said Doyle told investigators that he didn’t remember anything that happened after he got high.

Lucas said law enforcement often makes headlines for the wrong reasons, but the officers’ actions on Wednesday was “an amazing example of what went right.” Fans cheered the officers as they arrested Doyle and the passenger at gunpoint Wednesday, and Lucas said the city was grateful to the officers for enabling it to have an “outstanding” parade without a serious incident.

The prosecutor’s office requested that Doyle’s bond be set at $75,000 and said it didn’t know whether Doyle had an attorney yet.

City officials noted that police detained only five people, including the two in the car, during a parade that drew hundreds of thousands of revelers. The other three included a person cited for disorderly conduct, a man on a horse and another man who fell out of a tree. Those two men were removed from the rally and allowed to leave.

The fire department took 24 people to the hospital, according to city spokesman Chris Hernandez, and also responded to several injuries on site, including panic attacks and intoxication.

SEDGWICK COUNTY —Police have located a deceased body in remote Cowley County believed to be 50-year-old Jeffery Jones of Hutchinson, KS, stemming from an ongoing December criminal homicide investigation, according to officer Charley Davidson.

Through continued investigation and interviews, police were led to an area near 107th&nbsp;Street East and 32nd&nbsp;Street South in Cowley County, searching for Jones’ body and any other potential evidence in this case.&nbsp; 

Upon searching, officers found a deceased body in an abandoned structure in that area.&nbsp; WPD will work with the Regional Forensic Science Center to confirm the identity of the body.&nbsp;

Police previously arrested 53-year-old Jeffrey Hill of Wichita, on charges of 2nd-degree murder, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of narcotics, possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 29, a 50-year-old male reported to WPD officers of Hill being involved in an alleged criminal homicide in the 2100 block of South Water earlier in the month and that the victim was taken to an unknown location outside of Wichita and buried, according to Davidson.
