Hausen was joined in double figures by senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coleman-hawkins/12179">Coleman Hawkins</a>&nbsp;(13 points), sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/macaleab-rich/12169">Macaleab Rich</a>&nbsp;(11 points) and senior&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/david-n-guessan/12168">David N'Guessan</a>&nbsp;(10 points). N'Guessan had a near double-double with a game-high 9 rebounds.

K-State led from start to finish despite a spirited effort from Fort Hays State, which is coming off a 23-win campaign and was recently ranked No. 16 in the preseason NCAA Division II Coaches poll. The Wildcats led by as many as 20 points early in the second half before the Tigers cut the lead in half with 8:24 to play, prompting a timeout by head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://www.kstatesports.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jerome-tang/2541">Jerome Tang</a>.An 8-2 spurt capped by a 3-pointer from Hawkins pushed the lead back out to 60-44 with less than 6 minutes to play and the lead never dipped below 12 points the rest of the way.

Hawkins was stellar all-around in his first action as a Wildcat, adding a team-high 6 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals to go with his 13 points in nearly 32 minutes of action.K-State scored its 70 points on 41.1 percent (23-of-56) shooting, including 28.6 percent (8-of-28) from 3-point range, and 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the free throw line. TULSA, Okla. – The Fort Hays State Men's Golf team secured a tie for 8th place at the Tulsa Cup, held at the Club at Indian Springs. The Tigers posted a solid start with a first-round score of 309, placing them in a tie for fifth after day one. They then logged their best team score in the second round, a 306, before finishing the final round with another 309. Their combined team score across the three rounds was 924.&nbsp;

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/cooper-scheck/8548">Cooper Scheck</a>&nbsp;led the Tigers, tying for 22nd individually with a total score of 14-over par. Scheck started with a round of 82, followed by his best performance in round two with a 76. He closed with another 82 in the final round and tallied seven birdies over the week.&nbsp;

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/jackson-rader/8547">Jackson Rader</a>&nbsp;followed close behind, tying for 26th at 15-over par with rounds of 74, 79, and 78. Rader sank five birdies in total, including three in the first round, which helped him finish day one tied for eighth.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/cole-streck/8549">Cole Streck</a>&nbsp;displayed impressive consistency, tying for 28th overall. Streck carded an opening round of 79 and improved over the next two rounds with 77 and 76. He matched Scheck's birdie count with seven across the tournament.&nbsp;&nbsp;

McCaslin led the Tigers in birdies, recording nine for the tournament. Rounding out the team was&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-golf/roster/jacob-george/8545">Jacob George</a>, who posted scores of 80, 81, and 78 to finish tied for 57th overall.&nbsp;

The tournament saw Rogers State claim victory with a team score of 16-over par, led by Elliot Han Monteremal, who tied for third individually at 4-over par. Washburn University finished just two strokes behind the lead at 19-over par, sliding in the standings after the final round.&nbsp;Jack Phillips of Southwestern Oklahoma State was the individual champion at even par through the three rounds.

The Tigers are set to resume their season in the spring at the Hillcat Classic, scheduled for March 10-11.&nbsp; &nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fort Hays State Men's Basketball will begin the 2024-25 season ranked No. 16 in the NABC Top 25 Poll, as the preseason edition was released on Tuesday. The Tigers are coming off a 23-8 overall record in 2023-24, making an appearance in the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament. They finished at No. 19 in the NABC Top 25 last year.

This is the first appearance for FHSU in the NABC Preseason Top 25 since 2006-07, when it had a ranking of No. 25 to start the year. FHSU was receiving votes in the preseason polls of both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. The Tigers have finished with at least 21 wins in each of the last three seasons.

Fort Hays State has now been ranked in the Top 25 in eight consecutive polls released by the NABC, going back to January 30 of last season. The Tigers ranked as high as No. 14 in the poll during the regular season last year on February 20.Fort Hays State is one of three MIAA schools listed in the Preseason Top 25, joining No. 10 ranked Washburn and No. 20 ranked Northwest Missouri State. Washburn was listed as the MIAA favorite by the coaches this year, while FHSU was listed as the favorite by the media. Northwest Missouri State is coming off its 11th-straight MIAA regular season title, but enters the year with a new coach at the helm. Pittsburg State was listed in the receiving votes section. FHSU, NWMSU, and PSU were participants in the NCAA Tournament last year.

Fort Hays State opens the regular season on November 8-9 with a pair of games in Marshall, Minn. against Southwest Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul. Southwest Minnesota State was also a participant in the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament last year and is among the receiving votes section of the national poll to start the season.

The Tigers are coming off a 23-8 overall record in 2023-24, making an appearance in the Central Regional of the NCAA Tournament. They finished at No. 19 in the NABC Top 25 last year.This is the first appearance for FHSU in the NABC Preseason Top 25 since 2006-07, when it had a ranking of No. 25 to start the year. FHSU was receiving votes in the preseason polls of both the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. The Tigers have finished with at least 21 wins in each of the last three seasons.Fort Hays State has now been ranked in the Top 25 in eight consecutive polls released by the NABC, going back to January 30 of last season. The Tigers ranked as high as No. 14 in the poll during the regular season last year on February 20.Fort Hays State is one of three MIAA schools listed in the Preseason Top 25, joining No. 10 ranked Washburn and No. 20 ranked Northwest Missouri State. Washburn was listed as the MIAA favorite by the coaches this year, while FHSU was listed as the favorite by the media. Fort Hays State Men's Basketball is set to play an exhibition contest against Kansas State University on Tuesday night in Manhattan, Kan. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Bramlage Coliseum. Fort Hays State is coming off its 14th&nbsp;appearance all-time in the NCAA Tournament (8th&nbsp;under head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/mark-johnson/1330">Mark Johnson</a>) in 2023-24, finishing with a 23-8 record overall. The Wildcats finished 19-15 overall in 2023-24 and made an appearance in the NIT.

The last time Fort Hays State and Kansas State met, Fort Hays State left Manhattan with an 81-68 win on December 8, 2020. Though it was a regular season game for Kansas State, it was an exhibition for Fort Hays State. It was during the COVID season of 2020-21. Head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/mark-johnson/1330">Mark Johnson</a>&nbsp;and associate head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/jeremy-brown/1331">Jeremy Brown</a>&nbsp;were in quarantine and could not travel with the team to the game, so assistant coach Todd Johnston had to lead the Tigers that night. The Tigers shot a blistering 55.2 percent from the field that night with 10 3-point field goals made, while holding KSU to 44 percent. Kansas State is now officially 3-3 all-time against FHSU in regular season games and both wins for FHSU in Manhattan all-time have oddly been on December 8, the other occurring in 1936 by a score of 47-25. The Wildcats are 4-0 in exhibition games against FHSU, but FHSU technically is now 1-4 against KSU in exhibitions for its official history and 2-3 against the Wildcats in regular season play.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/kaleb-hammeke/8224">Kaleb Hammeke</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/traejon-davis/8222">Traejon Davis</a>&nbsp;were the only current Tigers on that 2020-21 FHSU team and Hammeke scored 15 points the last time the teams met.

The Tigers fell 59-58 to Minnesota Duluth in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last year on a buzzer beater in the loaded Central Regional. It was a matchup of Top 20 nationally ranked teams in the first round, UMD at No. 10 and FHSU at No. 19. The Tigers were in the Top 25 of the last seven NABC polls released during the 2023-24 season. Minnesota State, the region's top seed, went on to win the regional and eventually the national championship, proving how good the Central Region was in 2023-24.

Fort Hays State's defense has been its identity in recent years. The Tigers were the national leader in scoring defense last year, allowing 57.9 points per game. They were one point per game better than conference foe Northwest Missouri State (58.9). In 2022-23, Northwest Missouri State had the best scoring defense in the nation (56.3), while Fort Hays State ranked second (57.2). The Tigers were second nationally also in 2021-22 at 56.6 per game, only behind Miles which had an average of 56.2. The Tigers held the opposition to 60 points or less in 17 of 31 games in 2023-24, which included 11 games inside of 50.

With the grind-out possession-style of play for the Tigers last year, they also were among the nation's best in field goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 39.8 percent from the field for the season. They ranked sixth nationally in that category, just 0.8 percent off the national lead. FHSU has held the opposition to less than 40 percent shooting from the field for the season in each of the last three years.

The Tigers return seven players from their 2023-24 squad, led by graduate student&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/kaleb-hammeke/8224">Kaleb Hammeke</a>&nbsp;who enters his fifth year on the court.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/traejon-davis/8222">Traejon Davis</a>&nbsp;also enters his fifth year on the floor for the Tigers. Hammeke is also the top returning rebounder for the Tigers, averaging 5.1 per game a year ago.

🏀🎧 LISTEN: Tigers open season with exhibition at K-State

LILBURN, Ga. - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team will open the 2024-25 season ranked 23rd in the WBCA NCAA Division II Preseason Coaches Poll, released Tuesday (Oct. 29) by the coaches association.

The Tigers received 107 points in the voting process, 14 behind 22nd-ranked Southern Nazarene. FHSU is one of two MIAA teams listed in the preseason top 25 alongside 13th-ranked Pittsburg State. The Tigers are one of four central region teams to crack the preseason poll, joining SNU, PSU and top-ranked and defending national champion Minnesota State. Three other regional rivals are receiving votes in Harding, Northern State and Missouri Western.

This is the sixth time that the Tigers have been ranked 23rd in the coaches poll, and the first since November 2022. FHSU is 3-4 all-time when ranked 23rd.This is also Fort Hays State's sixth appearance in the WBCA Preseason Top 25. The Tigers last cracked the season-opening poll in 2022 when the Tigers were third. FHSU also opened the 2021 season ranked fourth, opened the 2019 campaign ranked seventh, kicked off the 2018 season slotted 12th and began the 2015 year sitting in 10th.The Tigers have now been ranked in 104 releases of the WBCA DII Coaches Poll dating back to February 1997. FHSU is 157-43 all-time when playing as a ranked team.

Fort Hays State is coming off a 25-8 record in 2023-24. The Tigers reached the MIAA Tournament finals before advancing to the Central Region Semifinals in their eighth appearance in the NCAA DII Tournament over the last decade.

The Tigers will kick off the season with an exhibition against UConn, the second-ranked team in the NCAA DI Preseason Coaches Poll, on Sunday (Nov. 3, 11 a.m./noon ET) before opening the regular season next weekend (Nov. 8, 12:30 p.m.) against Augustana in St. Joseph, Mo.

Defending national champion Central Oklahoma was picked No. 1 in the poll. The Bronchos were a perfect 15-0 in dual action last year before going on to win the team national title at the NCAA Championships. Nebraska-Kearney is No. 2 in the poll, followed by Central Missouri at No. 3.

The only difference in the poll from how the standings finished last year is Central Missouri at No. 3 and Fort Hays State at No. 4. FHSU finished third last year, followed by UCM in fourth. The Tigers doubled up the Mules in the head-to-head dual last year by a score of 32-16.

The Tigers return eight wrestlers who recorded at least 10 wins last year. Two of those eight reached at least 20, which included team leader Tereus Henry with 27 and Riah Ostrander with 20. Henry was FHSU's lone national qualifier last year. He was an All-America performer in 2022-23 when he finished third.

The Tigers open their season on November 2 at the Friends University Falcon Invitational in Wichita. Their first dual will be at home on November 7 against Southeast (Neb.) Community College.

The Hays High boys soccer team pulled off the upset Monday night in the first round of the KSHSAA 5A Regional. The 11-seeded Indians defeated No. 6 seed Bishop Carroll 2-1.

Henry Speno and Cooper Johnson scored first half goals, Johnson's coming in the final 20 seconds of the first half to give the Indians a 2-1 halftime lead.

With the win, Hays improved to 9-8-0.&nbsp; Bishop Carroll ended their season with a&nbsp; 10-6-1 mark.

Hays advances to Thursday's regional final where they will face No. 3 seed Topeka West at
the Hummer Sports Park in Topeka at 4pm.

It is the first weekly honor in Tennant’s career, while he is just the second K-State kicker to earn Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week accolades since 2019 (Ty Zentner vs. Oklahoma State, 2022). It is the third time this season a Wildcat has earned a weekly conference accolade as&nbsp;Dylan Edwards&nbsp;(special teams) and&nbsp;Avery Johnson&nbsp;(offensive) were honored after the Arizona and Oklahoma State games, respectively.

Tennant produced the longest game-winning field goal with under two minutes remaining in regulation in school history, while it was the third-longest game-winner in the nation this season. It was his third-career field goal of 50 or more yards – which ranks fifth in school history – and it tied his career long originally set in 2021 at Texas and matched last season against SEMO.

It was one of two fourth-quarter field goals by Tennant, who also got K-State to within one point at 27-26 with a 28-yard field goal with 13:23 remaining in the contest.

A product of Shawnee, Kansas, Tennant enters plays this week tied for 24th&nbsp;nationally and third in the Big 12 in field goals per game (1.50), while he is tied for 26th&nbsp;in the country and third in the Big 12 in field goal percentage (85.7%).

🏈 K-State’s Tennant named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week

WACO, Texas – Fort Hays State Football continued to receive votes in the latest AFCA Top 25 Poll, released on Monday. The Tigers are coming off a 53-9 blowout win over Missouri Southern this past weekend, completing a 6-0 mark at home in 2024.Fort Hays State is one of four MIAA schools represented in the poll, but the only one of the four in the receiving votes list. Pittsburg State remains the highest ranked team in the MIAA at No. 5, followed by Emporia State at No. 11 and Central Oklahoma at No. 13. All three Top 25 teams from the MIAA have one loss on the season.

The Tigers head on the road to face No. 11 ranked Emporia State on Saturday (Nov. 2). The Tigers are still seeking their first road win of the season.

In the latest D2Football.com Top 25 Poll, Pittsburg State is the new No. 1, while Central Oklahoma is No. 9, and Emporia State is No. 13.

Perez was nominated by the Royals for his extraordinary efforts to build healthy and active communities in his native Valencia, Venezuela, his baseball home of Kansas City, Mo. and beyond.

Perez, the first member of the Royals to receive the honor, will be formally presented with the Roberto Clemente Award during a pregame press conference at Yankee Stadium before tonight’s Game Three of the World Series presented by Capital One.

Perez, the fourth captain in Royals history, a nine-time All-Star, five-time&nbsp;Rawlings&nbsp;Gold Glove Award winner and World Series MVP, has made meaningful humanitarian contributions, creating opportunities and better outcomes for the less fortunate in the following ways:

The Roberto Clemente Award presented by Capital One is the annual recognition of a Major League player who best represents the game of Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy, and positive contributions, both on and off the field. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes passed for 262 yards and two touchdowns and the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated with a 27-20 victory over the reeling Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

The Chiefs (7-0) extended their winning streak to 13 games, including the playoffs. Their last loss was at home to Las Vegas, but the Chiefs are 5-0 against the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium and 6-0 there including the Super Bowl in February.

Las Vegas (2-6) has lost four consecutive games, but this was the first time the Raiders had scored at least 20 points since a 20-16 victory over Cleveland on Sept. 29.

Mahomes became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 30,000 yards, doing it in his 103rd game. Matthew Stafford had hit that mark at 109 games.

Mahomes' top target was Travis Kelce, who had 10 catches for 90 yards, both season highs. He last caught double-digit passes on Oct. 22, 2023, and this was the highest-yardage output since Nov. 26.

Kelce also had a touchdown catch, his 75th to pass Jason Witten for fifth on the NFL tight end list. Kelce moved within two of breaking Tony Gonzalez's team record.

Gardner Minshew completed 24 of 30 passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns for Las Vegas, but was sacked five times. Jakobi Meyers, who missed the two previous games because of an ankle injury, caught six passes for 52 yards and the TD.

Minshew had the burden of carrying an offense that had virtually no running game, finishing with 33 yards, averaging 1.6 per carry.

The Raiders, however, made the champs work for this victory. But Las Vegas failed to take advantage of key opportunities

The Raiders had the ball and 1:57 left on the clock at the end of the first half, but went with two running plays before an incomplete pass on third down. Kansas City got the ball back and went 56 yards on nine plays for Harrison Butker's 42-yard field goal with four seconds left that made it 17-10.

Las Vegas trailed 17-13 in the third quarter when safety Tre'von Moehrig intercepted Mahomes' pass to give the Raiders the ball at the Chiefs 3. Running plays by Alexander Mattison resulted in plays of 2 yards, a no gain and a loss of 2 before Minshew was sacked on fourth down.

The Chiefs then went 87 yards on 19 carries, taking 9:43 off the clock, to set up another field goal from Butker, this one from 24 yards early in the fourth quarter for a seven-point lead.

A strip sack of Minshew set up the final Chiefs' touchdown with 4:59 left to all but seal the victory, though the Raiders scored a TD just before the 2-minute warning to create some drama. Kansas City then recovered the onside kick.

Chiefs: S Nazeeh Johnson (concussion) went out in the first half.

Raiders: C Andre James (ankle) was injured in the second half.

DENVER (AP) — Sean Payton didn't like the way the Denver Broncos started or finished their 28-14 win over the injury-riddled Carolina Panthers. In between, there was plenty for him to enjoy, though.

Bo Nix threw three touchdown passes and ran for another and Denver's defense throttled Bryce Young for much of the afternoon, intercepting him twice and sacking him twice.

“Everybody on the field was making plays: receivers, tight ends, running backs,” Nix said. “The ball was being dispersed to a lot of positions and I thought that was good. Tough on a defense when you're getting a lot of guys involved.”

In the best game yet of his rookie season, the Broncos quarterback threw for 284 yards. He found Nate Adkins from 3 yards and Adam Trautman from 19 yards in the second quarter as the Broncos (5-3) built a 21-7 halftime lead.

The Broncos wide receivers lost two fumbles, however, both of which led to Carolina touchdowns, which bookended nine consecutive Panthers drives without a score.

“It's not a good offense we played. It's just the truth,” said Payton, who irked some Panthers, notably cornerback Jaycee Horn, with a fake field-goal attempt and a wide receiver pass with a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter. "So, we expected that and we're going to see a lot better teams.”

Like Baltimore and Kansas City the next two weeks.

Payton said the Broncos “still aren't playing our best football,” and he told his team in "bigger games than this, some of those mistakes are going to cost us.”

The Panthers (1-7), who listed a whopping 22 players on their injury report and lost two more players Sunday, lost for the fifth consecutive time.

Young was 24 for 37 for 224 yards with two TDs and two interceptions.

“I was definitely grateful, grateful for the opportunity,” Young said. “I was grateful to play, grateful to be out there with the guys. Obviously, it didn’t turn out the way we wanted to. No matter what, I was just blessed to be on the field today.”

Young wasn't the only Carolina player off target — the Broncos made it 28-7 after a failed fake punt by the Panthers from their 24 in the third quarter. Safety Sam Franklin Jr. was wide open but punter Johnny Hekker airmailed the attempt on fourth-and-6.

Four plays later, Nix side-armed a 9-yard TD pass to running back Jaleel McLaughlin.

Patrick Surtain II, who allowed Carolina's first-drive touchdown,&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1850668683666014360">intercepted Young</a>&nbsp;at the Denver 11 on the Panthers' next drive.

Courtland Sutton, who exchanged jerseys with former teammate Josey Jewell after the game, caught eight of Nix's passes for 100 yards. It was his first 100-yard game since Week 2 of the 2022 season against Houston.

However, he coughed up the ball at the 1 on his final reception just before the two-minute warning when Trevin Wallace punched it out and Shy Tuttle recovered his second fumble of the game.

Young was terrific in the two-minute drill, driving Carolina 98 yards in 10 plays with the payoff a 15-yard touchdown throw to Jalen Coker with 18 seconds left.

“I’m proud of the guys for the way we finished the fight,” Carolina coach Dave Canales said. “The guys continued to play hard, all the way throughout.”

Benched after Week 2, Young returned as the Panthers’ starting QB when Andy Dalton sprained his right thumb in an auto accident on Tuesday. Dalton didn’t practice all week because he couldn’t grip the football properly, so rookie Jack Plummer served as Young’s backup Sunday.

Canales wasn't ready to name his starting QB for next week.

“We will look at all the information,” he said. “We’ll look at Andy’s health over the next couple of days and I’ll make that decision and I’ll have an answer for you in the next couple days.”

Things started off well for Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft.

After Tuttle recovered Lil’Jordan Humphrey’s fumble at midfield on the game’s opening drive, Young drove the Panthers to a 7-0 lead on rookie Xavier Legette’s 6-yard touchdown catch.

Not only was that Young’s first touchdown throw of the season, but it also marked the first opening-drive TD of his career.

The Panthers only managed one first down the rest of the half, however, and the Broncos began to dominate in all phases.

“I didn’t like how it finished,” Payton said. “But it was good to get a win.”

The TDs for Akins and Trautman were the first by Broncos tight ends this season, and they came on what the NFL celebrates as “&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/Broncos/status/1850648168624775193">National Tight Ends Day</a>.”

In between, there was plenty for him to enjoy, though.Bo Nix threw three touchdown passes and ran for another and Denver's defense throttled Bryce Young for much of the afternoon, intercepting him twice and sacking him twice.“Everybody on the field was making plays: receivers, tight ends, running backs,” Nix said. “The ball was being dispersed to a lot of positions and I thought that was good. Tough on a defense when you're getting a lot of guys involved.”In the best game yet of his rookie season, the Broncos quarterback threw for 284 yards. He found Nate Adkins from 3 yards and Adam Trautman from 19 yards in the second quarter as the Broncos (5-3) built a 21-7 halftime lead.The Broncos wide receivers lost two fumbles, however, both of which led to Carolina touchdowns, which bookended nine consecutive Panthers drives without a score.“It's not a good offense we played. It's just the truth,” said Payton, who irked some Panthers, notably cornerback Jaycee Horn, with a fake field-goal attempt and a wide receiver pass with a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter. HAYS, Kan. - Fort Hays State Women's Soccer picked up a big win on Sunday afternoon in their final home match of the regular season, knocking off No. 15 ranked Washburn 2-1. FHSU improved to 7-4-4 overall and 4-3-2 in MIAA, while Washburn, last year's national runner-up, moved to 10-3-2 overall and took its first conference loss of the season, now 7-1-1.

Fort Hays State opened the scoring in the 20th&nbsp;minute when a failed clearance by an Ichabod defender went right to&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/taylor-hill/8126">Taylor Hill</a>, who then had a 1-on-1 situation with the goalkeeper. Hill won the matchup with her fifth goal of the season to put the Tigers on top. FHSU held its 1-0 advantage at halftime after both teams took four shots in the first half.

The Ichabods generated several offensive opportunities in the second half, despite playing into a breeze. In the 65th&nbsp;minute Washburn broke through with the equalizer as Khloe Schuckman barely got her foot on the ball just in front of Tiger keeper&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/mackenzie-caldwell/8128">Mackenzie Caldwell</a>&nbsp;to push the ball past for a goal. Belle Kennedy assisted with a perfectly placed pass.

Even though the offensive opportunities were scarce for the Tigers in the second half,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/allison-worley/8102">Allison Worley</a>&nbsp;made good on one of the team's two shots of the second half.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/sports/womens-soccer/roster/britney-arneson/8077">Britney Arneson</a>&nbsp;found her with a pass just outside the top of the box and led Worley to a spot where she put a brilliant strike on the ball in the 78th&nbsp;minute for the game-winning goal. It was Worley's fourth goal of the season.

Washburn finished with a 13-6 shot advantage in the match by taking nine second-half shots. Caldwell notched four saves in the match, while Ichabod keeper Alli Harrington picked up two saves.

Though the Tigers have played to several draws with ranked teams in recent years, it was their first win over a nationally ranked team since the 2019 season when they knocked off a No. 14 ranked Central Oklahoma team in Edmond, also by a score of 2-1. It was the first win over a ranked team in Hays since the 2015 season when the Tigers knocked off a No. 1 ranked Central Missouri team 2-1 as well.

The Tigers go on the road for their final three matches of the regular season, starting with a trip to Oklahoma next week. The Tigers will play at Northeastern State on Friday at 7 p.m. before heading to Rogers State on Sunday (Nov. 3) at 2 p.m.&nbsp;&nbsp;

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Avery Johnson threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score, Chris Tennant kicked a 51-yard go-ahead field goal with 1:42 to go and No. 16 Kansas State stopped Kansas on fourth down to preserve a 29-27 victory Saturday night.

D.J. Giddens added 102 yards rushing for the Wildcats (7-1, 4-1 Big 12), who kept alive their chances of playing for a conference title and in the College Football Playoff by beating their biggest rival for the 16th consecutive time.

Kansas (2-6, 1-4) got the ball back after Tennant's field goal and picked up a quick first down. But Jalon Daniels bookended a short completion with a couple of incomplete passes, and he was tracked down on fourth down with less than a minute to go, giving the Wildcats the ball back and the chance to run out the clock.

Daniels threw for 209 yards and accounted for two touchdowns and an interception. Devin Neal ran for 66 yards and a score.

Kansas opened the game with a 75-yard touchdown drive, then looked as if it would take control a few minutes later, when Daniels spotted Quentin Skinner running open down the middle of the field. But the senior wide receiver dropped the would-be 49-yard touchdown throw, and the Jayhawks ultimately were forced to punt.

The Wildcats seized on the opening, then took advantage of another Kansas blunder.

After Johnson led a 95-yard drive to knot the game, Kansas freshman Jameel Croft Jr. inexplicably caught the ensuing kickoff at the 1-yard line and stepped out of bounds. Neal was stuffed for a safety on the very next play, and Kansas State followed with a 59-yard drive and its second touchdown in a matter of minutes.

Brendan Mott was there to recover it for the Wildcats, giving Johnson and Co. one last chance with the ball.They did just enough to set up Tennant's go-ahead field goal inside the final 2 minutes.<h2>The takeaway</h2>Kansas dominated the game for long stretches but was forced to overcome itself. Daniels had two turnovers, something that was a problem for him earlier in the season, and the Jayhawks made too many special teams blunders.Kansas State had 479 yards of total offense but struggled on third down. It also had a chance to score a go-ahead TD early in the fourth quarter, but Johnson's pass sailed high and the Wildcats kicked a chip-shot field goal that nearly cost them.<h2>Up next</h2>Kansa: Plays No. 10 Iowa State on Nov. 9 at Arrowhead Stadium.Kansas State: At Houston next Saturday.
