

PITTSBURG, Kan. - The Fort Hays State baseball team opened the conference season with a 7-4 road win over Pittsburg State on Friday. It was the first time the Tigers have won their conference opener since 2016 against Central Missouri.

The Tigers (11-6, 1-0 MIAA) tallied 12 hits on the day, stringing together two big innings by scoring four in the fourth and three in the sixth. Pittsburg State (8-7, 0-1 MIAA) jumped in front with two runs in the first inning before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5290">Zach Berg</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5283">Jacob Ensz</a>&nbsp;limited the Gorillas to just two more runs over the next eight frames.

Fort Hays State had plenty of chances to score early on, picking up multiple baserunners in each of the first four innings. The Tigers finally capitalized in the fourth when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5293">Jaxson Webb</a>&nbsp;lifted his first collegiate home run sailing over the fence in right center, plating&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5267">Tyler Olson</a>&nbsp;to tie the score at 2-2. Later in the inning,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5289">Grant Schmidt</a>&nbsp;singled and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5273">Drake Angeron</a>&nbsp;drew a walk to set the table for&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5298">Corbin Truslow</a>. The first baseman gave the Tigers the lead with a two-RBI single to right.

After allowing three hits in the two-run first, Berg (3-0) bounced back to scatter just two hits over the next four frames. &nbsp;He retired the side in order twice, racking up five strikeouts over 6.2 innings of work and picking up the win.

The Tigers pushed across three more runs in the sixth with a clutch two-out rally. After a pitch hit Schmidt, PSU reliever Nick Brown struck out a pair of Tigers before walking Truslow.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5266">Jared Maneth</a>&nbsp;followed with a double into the gap in left center, driving in Schmidt.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5276">Griffin Brunson</a>&nbsp;kept things rolling with a base knock back up the middle, driving in a pair to push the Tiger lead to 7-2.

Ensz (2) came out of the pen to get the Tigers out of a jam in the seventh, striking out a Gorilla to leave the bases loaded. The lefty picked up his second save of the season after tossing the final 2.1 innings, surrendering two hits and one run while striking out three Gorillas.

Eight different Tigers recorded hits on the day, with Truslow, Maneth, Olson and Webb all picking up two hits.

The Tigers and Gorillas will continue the series on Saturday (Feb. 29) with another single game beginning at 1 p.m.

Tiger baseball wins conference opener at Pitt State



TOPEKA, Kan. – Fort Hays State Softball split its first two games of the Washburn Invitational on Friday. The Tigers had a lead in game one, but fell 3-2 in eight innings as Rockhurst rallied late to force extra innings. They bounced back for a 3-0 win over Missouri-St. Louis in their second contest of the day. FHSU moved to 11-7 overall.

Rockhurst 3, Fort Hays State 2 (8 inn.) Fort Hays State jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in its first game of the day, only to see Rockhurst rally for single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings for an extra-inning comeback. Both teams produced six hits in the contest.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the third inning by stringing together a walk and a pair of singles.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5345">Megan Feiner</a>&nbsp;reached on a walk to open the inning and stole a base with two outs.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5339">Katie Adler</a>&nbsp;had an infield single before&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5358">Kristen Reed</a>&nbsp;notched her first of two RBIs in the game with a single up the middle.

Following a leadoff double by&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5350">Lily Sale</a>&nbsp;in the fifth inning, Reed produced another clutch 2-out RBI single to make the Tiger advantage 2-0.

<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>&nbsp;kept the Hawks scoreless through the first five innings of the game, but could not hold off a late charge. In the sixth inning, the Hawks came up with a single and then double with two outs to get their first run of the game. Maya Gallagher then led off the seventh with a solo home run, which forced extra innings.

The game went to the international tiebreaker format in the eighth. FHSU had a golden opportunity to score after a bunt single immediately put runners at first and third. However, a strikeout, walk to load the bases, another strikeout, and a lineout ended a bases loaded threat.

Rockhurst immediately ended the game in the eighth with a double that plated the runner from second.

Chapman (5-5) took the loss, allowing two walks with six hits, while striking out six. Olivia Prather threw a complete game for Rockhurst, allowing six hits and three walks with eight strikeouts, moving to 3-0 on the season.

Fort Hays State 3, Missouri-St. Louis 0 <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a>&nbsp;gave the Tigers a big effort in the pitching circle against Missouri-St. Louis. She had a perfect game going through 5.1 innings of play before surrendering a hit. She went on to record a complete-game one-hitter with just one walk allowed. Nelson (5-2) struck out eight batters in her winning effort, moving to 5-2 on the season.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Missouri-St. Louis pitchers struggled mightily with command in the fourth inning, issuing five walks to the Tigers. The final two forced in runs as&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5354">Lexi Kagan</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5350">Lily Sale</a>&nbsp;picked up RBIs.

The Tigers picked up an insurance run in the fifth when&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5339">Katie Adler</a>&nbsp;led off with a single. With two outs,&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5357">Loren Beggs</a>&nbsp;laced an RBI double to left center field that plated Adler.

Tiger baseball opens MIAA play at Pittsburg State

Fort Hays State Softball closes out its first month of the season with 
more regional crossover games at the Washburn Invitational in Topeka, 
Kansas this weekend (Feb. 28-Mar. 1). The Tigers will face two teams 
from the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) on their first day of 
action before playing four teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate 
Conference (NSIC) over the final two days. The Tigers take a 10-6 
overall record into the weekend.

- Fort Hays State meets Rockhurst for the first time since the 2015 
season. The Tigers hold a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series with the 
Hawks. The teams played a doubleheader during the 2015 season at 
Rockhurst that ended in a split.


- Fort Hays State and Missouri-St. Louis also meet for the first time 
since 2015. UMSL holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The teams
 met in Bentonville, Arkansas in 2015 with UMSL pulling out a 5-4 win.

- Fort Hays State and Sioux Falls last met in 2018 at the St. Cloud State Tournament held in a dome. FHSU lost that game 2-0. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>
 was the starter in that game for FHSU, allowing eight hits and two 
walks with four strikeouts in a complete game effort. Frankie Mickelson 
of USF hit a 2-run homer in the sixth, which accounted for all of the 
scoring in the game. She is a senior this year. USF holds a 2-0 
advantage in the all-time series.


- Fort Hays State and Southwest Minnesota State have met only once in 
history, occurring in 2016 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. SMSU won that 
meeting 2-1 in 8 innings. The Mustangs are playing their first games of 
the season this weekend.

- Fort Hays State and St. Cloud State have met three times prior, the 
last occurring in 2018 at St. Cloud State's dome tournament. The Huskies
 won that meeting 6-4. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a> allowed all six runs to SCSU, all scored during the 5th
 inning after FHSU held a 3-0 lead. Kylie Thomsen, a freshman at the 
time, threw a complete game against the Tigers with six hits allowed and
 two strikeouts. St. Cloud State is receiving votes in the NFCA national
 poll.


- Fort Hays State and Minnesota-Crookston have met only one time in history, occurring back in 2007. FHSU won that meeting 8-0.


-Fort Hays State enters the weekend on a 2-game win streak. The Tigers 
are coming off wins over Midwestern State and St. Mary's last Saturday 
in Oklahoma.

Caldwell, Reed, and <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5339">Katie Adler</a> are all hitting north of .300 so far on the season through 16 games.

- <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5348">Michaelanne Nelson</a> has a 2.53 ERA and 4-2 record so far this year in the pitching circle. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a>
 leads FHSU pitchers in wins with 5. Both Nelson and Chapman have 50 
strikeouts this season. Nelson has a 7.45 strikeouts/7 innings rate, 
while Chapman is at 6.6 strikeouts/7 innings. Chapman has two saves, 
while Nelson has one. FHSU has a team ERA of 3.69, while opponents have a
 3.41 ERA against FHSU.

- Fort Hays State meets Rockhurst for the first time since the 2015 
season. The Tigers hold a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series with the 
Hawks. The teams played a doubleheader during the 2015 season at 
Rockhurst that ended in a split.
- Fort Hays State and Missouri-St. Louis also meet for the first time 
since 2015. UMSL holds a 3-1 advantage in the all-time series. The teams

- Fort Hays State and Southwest Minnesota State have met only once in 
history, occurring in 2016 in St. Cloud, Minnesota. SMSU won that 
meeting 2-1 in 8 innings. The Mustangs are playing their first games of 
the season this weekend.
- Fort Hays State and St. Cloud State have met three times prior, the 
last occurring in 2018 at St. Cloud State's dome tournament. The Huskies
 won that meeting 6-4. <a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5344">Hailey Chapman</a> allowed all six runs to SCSU, all scored during the 5th
 inning after FHSU held a 3-0 lead. Kylie Thomsen, a freshman at the 
time, threw a complete game against the Tigers with six hits allowed and
 two strikeouts. St. Cloud State is receiving votes in the NFCA national
 poll.
- Fort Hays State and Minnesota-Crookston have met only one time in history, occurring back in 2007. FHSU won that meeting 8-0.
-Fort Hays State enters the weekend on a 2-game win streak. The Tigers 
are coming off wins over Midwestern State and St. Mary's last Saturday

FHSU softball heads to Topeka for final weekend of crossover play

EDMOND, Okla. – Fort Hays State’s chances of making the MIAA
Tournament took a big blow Thursday. The Tigers rallied late to force overtime
but were outscored 11-4 in the extra period and lost 80-73 at Central Oklahoma.
The loss drops the Tigers (13-14, 6-12 MIAA) into a tie with Pittsburg State for
the final slot into next week’s MIAA Tournament. The Gorillas, thanks to a win
in Hays last month, hold the tiebreaker over the Tigers.

Jared Vitztum converted on a conventional three-point play
with 17 seconds left in regulation to tie the game and force overtime. The Bronchos
(10-17, 7-11 MIAA) scored the first seven points in the overtime period to
build their biggest lead of the game.

After a slow start in which they fell behind by five, the Tigers
went on a 22-7 run to build a couple of 10-points first half leads, the last
with 8:33 to play on an olley-oop dunk by Jake Hutchings on a feed from Aaron
Nicholson.

UCO closed out the first half on a 17-7 run to tie the game
at halftime and would build a six-point lead on three different occasions in
the second half. After the Tigers battled back to tie the game at 62 and 66, Justin
Nimmer hit a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left to push the Bronchos lead to 69-66
before Vitztum’s three-point tied the game with 17 seconds left.

Jake Hutchings led the Tigers with 16 points. Nyjee Wright
added 13 and Jared Vitztum 10.

Fort Hays State closes out the regular Saturday in Wichita
against Newman. The Tigers need to win and have Central Missouri defeat
Pittsburg State to get into the conference tournament.

Tiger men come up short in overtime at Central Oklahoma

HUTCHINSON – The TMP girls and boys basketball teams closed out
the regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Trinity Catholic Thursday night
in Hutchinson.

Girls: TMP 58, Trinity 49 The TMP Lady Monarchs picked up their third straight win Thursday
night as they picked up a 58-49 win over Trinity Catholic.

The Monarchs raced out to an 8-0 lead and after the Celtics
cut the TMP lead back to two the Monarchs outscored Trinity 7-3 to end the
quarter and lead 15-9.

Sophia Balthazor hit three of her game-high five three
pointers in the second quarter helping TMP build a nine-point lead at 29-20
with six minutes to play in the first half. 

The Celtics closed the first half and opened the second half
on an 11-0 run to build a 31-29 lead early in the third quarter.

The Celtics led by as many as three in the third quarter
before Balthazor connected on her fifth three of the game to put TMP up 43-42 at
the end of the third quarter.

The game was tied at 47 with four minutes left in the fourth
quarter when Jaci VonLintel knocked a three to put TMP up 50-47. They would
never trail again on their way to a 58-49 win.

Balthazor&nbsp;led
two in double-figures with a career-high 21 points and Jaci VonLintel added a
career-high 13.

Hayley
Hughes led Trinity Catholic with 19 points.

TMP improved to 9-12 heading into Tuesday’s first-round
sub-state game against Russell.

Boys: TMP 61, Trinity Catholic 54 The TMP boys outscored 19-4 down the stretch in the fourth quarter
as the Monarchs rallied from down seven to beat the Celtics 61-54 Thursday.

TMP raced out to a 10-2 first quarter lead as Carson Jacobs
scored eight straight points. Trinity quickly cut the lead back to two points
before TMP took a 16-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Monarchs built an eight-point lead in the second quarter
at 23-15 only to see the Celtics finish the first half on a 12-4 run to tie the
game at 27 at halftime.

The Celtics built their largest lead in the third quarter at
43-36 before Lucas Lang banked in a corner three to end the third quarter
cutting Trinity’s lead to 43-39

In the fourth quarter the Celtics led by as many as seven
points, at 49-42 before the Monarchs closed the game on a 19-5 run. Carson
Jacobs scored nine of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter as the
Monarchs picked up the 61-54 win.

Jacobs added 16 rebounds for his second career double-double.

TMP improved to 16-4 on the season. They will host Phillipsburg on Monday in the first-round of the 3A sub-state.

the extra period for a 71-65 over Central Oklahoma Thursday night at Hamilton
Fieldhouse. The Tigers (21-6, 12-6 MIAA) have won nine consecutive overtime
games and are 11-5 in overtime games under coach Tony Hobson.

FHSU led by seven on three different occasions and were up
five with just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter but missed their
next five shots and went scoreless over a three and-a-half minute stretch and fell
behind 57-54 with 30 seconds to play.

Jaden Hobbs hit two free throws with 27 seconds to play to
close the gap to 57-56. Shatoya Bryson hit two free throws for UCO (17-9, 11-7
MIAA) with 17 seconds left. Hobbs answered by banking in a deep 3-pointer with 3.5
seconds to play.



Both teams had chances to win in regulation, but a turnover from both sides and a missed 3-pointer at the buzzer from UCO forced overtime.

The Bronchos scored the first basket of the overtime but
Kacey Kennett hit back-to-back 3-pointers, the second of which gave the Tigers
the lead for good.

Kennett tied her season-high with 22 points. Hobbs added 14
along with six rebounds and six assists. Taylor Rolfs scored 12 and Belle
Barbieri 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 18th double-double of the year.



Fort Hays State finished the game 26-of-58 from the floor (44.8 percent, including an 8-for-22 effort from deep and an 11-of-12 day at the charity stripe. The Tiger defense held the Bronchos to 36.9 percent from the floor (26-of-35, including a 30.4 shooting percentage in the fourth quarter and overtime (7-of-23). The Tigers outrebounded UCO by seven, 39-32. FHSU was able to overcome turning the ball over times, matching its season-high.

Fort Hays State now sits in a tie for fifth in the league standings with one game to go Saturday at Newman. First tip is slated for 1:30 p.m. from Fugate Gymnasium. The Jets knocked off Nebraska-Kearney Thursday.

Tiger women win overtime thriller at Central Oklahoma

Like the first game between Hays and Abilene the outcome was decided late.&nbsp; Like the first meeting Hays won by three but this time on the road in Abilene.

Hays led by six early and Abilene led by five in the third quarter.&nbsp; The Indians scored the last six points of the third quarter to take a 29-27 lead.&nbsp; The Indians scored just two points in the first 6:15 of the final quarter.&nbsp; During that time Abilene took a 34-31 lead.&nbsp;

Hays would hold Abilene scoreless 5:30 of the game and take the victory.&nbsp; Tasiah Nunnery scored with 1:45 remaining to get Hays within point and Isabel Robben scored just over thirty seconds later for a 35-34 advantage.

Just like in the first game of the series nine days earlier Brooklyn Schaffer found herself at the free throw line and a one point lead.&nbsp; Just like the first time she made both free throws.&nbsp; Abilene got two three point shots away in the final twenty seconds but missed both avoiding overtime.

Tasiah Nunnery led the Indians with 12 points, her third game in double figures.&nbsp; Aleyia Ruder collected her first double-double at ten points and twelve rebounds.

Hays improves to 6-13 on the year.&nbsp; Abilene falls to 5-15.&nbsp; The Indians close out the regular season and conference play against Dodge City on Friday on senior night.

It took every last second for Hays High to knock off #7-4A Abilene on Thursday night thanks to a TJ Nunnery buzzer beater.&nbsp; Hays led just four times in the game.&nbsp; Twice by one point and twice by two points.&nbsp; The two point leads came with 35 seconds remaining and when the final buzzer sounded at 49-47.

Abilene scored the first eight points of the game and led the Indians 15-3 through the first five and a half minutes.&nbsp; Carson Kieffer mounted the comeback with seven straight points to end the first quarter and close the gap down to 15-10.&nbsp; The Indians turned that into a 13-2 run to get within a single point.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Each time Hays pulled close, Abilene pushed their advantage.&nbsp; The Cowboys led 22-18 at halftime.

The Indians led for just seven seconds of the third quarter and trailed 33-31 heading into the fourth.&nbsp; Hays regained the lead on a Dalyn Schwarz basket at 41-40 but led for just twenty seconds before Abilene led again.&nbsp;

Nunnery grabbed the Hays lead back at 45-44 and Schwarz scored with 35 seconds left for a 47-45 advantage.&nbsp; The Cowboys tied the game with 5.5 seconds on the clock.&nbsp; Following a pair of Hays timeouts the Indians found Schwarz in the middle of the court and as he went up for a driving shot the ball was tipped away from him.&nbsp; The ball landed at the finger tips of Nunnery who floated the ball in from ten feet as time expired.

Carson Kieffer scored a game high 14.&nbsp; TJ Nunnery added 11.

Hays improves to 13-6 while Abilene ends the year at 13-7.&nbsp; Hays will host Dodge City for senior night on Friday.

This will be a key contest in determining the final three qualifiers for the MIAA Tournament next week in Kansas City. FHSU and UCO enter the contest tied for ninth in the MIAA standings at 6-11. FHSU is 13-13 overall, while UCO is 9-17 overall.

Only three more spots remain for next week's MIAA Tournament. FHSU and Central Oklahoma are among the six teams fighting for the final three spots with two games remaining in the regular season. The Tigers enter the game tied with Central Oklahoma for ninth in the MIAA standings. FHSU defeated Central Oklahoma when they met in Hays less than three weeks ago by a score of 81-73 and can lock up a spot to Kansas City with a win.&nbsp;

Lincoln sits in eighth place, just one game ahead of both FHSU and UCO at 7-10 in the MIAA. Lincoln defeated FHSU head-to-head, while UCO defeated Lincoln head-to-head. Lurking behind FHSU and UCO just a game back of the ninth-place tie are Central Missouri and Pittsburg State, each at 5-12. Emporia State is mathematically still alive at 4-13, while Newman is the only school eliminated from tournament contention at 3-14.

Central Oklahoma won its last two games against MIAA opponents at home, defeating Newman 77-51 and Emporia State 75-65. The Bronchos had lost four straight MIAA games at home prior to those last two contests, but three of the four were by five points or less. Among the three losses by five points or less were Northwest Missouri State and Rogers State, the top two teams in the MIAA, which rank No. 1 and No. 17 in the national rankings respectively.

The Tigers are coming off an 87-80 win over Northeastern State in Hays this past Saturday. The Tigers (20-6, 11-6 MIAA) have an overall Division II record of 17-6 and an in-region record of 16-6.&nbsp;FHSU has three wins over regionally ranked opponents this season, topping No. 2 Minnesota Duluth in the first game of the year before defeating both No. 9 Harding and No. 4 Emporia State by more than 30 points.

A pair of home wins last week helped the Tigers hang on to the No. 8 ranking. Multiple teams above the Tigers lost last week, but two road wins from Southwestern Oklahoma State helped the Bulldogs leap from ninth to seventh.

Four&nbsp;MIAA teams are listed in the regional top 10 this week, with FHSU joined by top-ranked Central Missouri, fourth-ranked Emporia State and No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney. The NSIC and GAC each have three teams represented this week.

The regional ranking committee will announce one more regular season poll before the final&nbsp;announcement is made on Selection Sunday, when the NCAA announces the 64-team field for the 2020 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship at 9 p.m. on Sunday, March 8. The three conference tournament champions from the MIAA, GAC and NSIC will be joined by top five remaining teams in an eight-team regional tournament beginning Friday, March 13.

Tiger women hold on to eighth in Central Regional rankings

Both the TMP-Marian boys and girls basketball teams will
host first round sub-state games next week.

The TMP boys earned the number three seed in the 3A boys
Beloit sub-state next week with a record of 15-4. TMP will host the six-seed
Phillipsburg on Monday at 7 p.m. Phillipsburg is 12-9 on the year.

The winner of that game will take on the winner of the
number two seed Hoisington and the seven-seed Concordia.

On the other side of the bracket, the host Beloit is the top
seed. They will host Russell on Monday. The winner of that matchup gets the
winner of the four versus five match up of Minneapolis and Norton.

The TMP girls earned the four-seed in the Beloit sub-state
and will host the number five-seed Russell Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The winner of the game will take on the winner of the top

TMP set to host 1st round sub-state games

The TMP girls and boys basketball teams closed out the
Mid-Continent League portion of their schedule Tuesday night with a doubleheader
sweep of the Plainville Cardinals in Plainville.

Girls: TMP 67, Plainville 55 The TMP girls used a 12-0 run to end the first quarter and
outscored Plainville 11-4 in the second quarter as they rallied from a
nine-point first quarter deficit to beat the Cardinals 67-55.

Coach Rose McFarland postgame interview

The two teams traded field goals back and forth in a
high-scoring first quarter and Plainville’s Aubrey Dewey scored 16 of her game-high
43 points to give the Cardinals a 20-11 lead. Down nine TMP answered with a 12-0
run to end the first quarter, capped off with five straight points from Jaci
VonLintel that gave TMP a 23-20 lead at the end of the first quarter.

TMP carried that run into the second quarter and extended it
to a 23-4 run giving the Monarchs a 34-24 lead at the break.

The Monarchs held an eight point on several occasions in the
third quarter and Plainville could get no closer as the Monarchs claimed the
67-55 win.

Megan Hamel scored a team-high for TMP with 15 points.&nbsp;

TMP improved to 8-12 overall and 4-5 in the MCL.

Boys: TMP 65, Plainville 47 After falling behind by one in the first quarter the TMP
boys ended the first quarter and closed out the second quarter on a 17-7 run
and never trailed again on their way to the 65-47 win and their first
Mid-Continent League regular season title since 2017.

Jared Casey gave Plainville at 14-13 lead in the first

The TMP girls and boys basketball teams closed out the
Mid-Continent League portion of their schedule Tuesday night with a doubleheader

WACO, Texas (AP) — No. 2 Baylor bounced back in a big way from its first Big 12 loss. Matthew Mayer had a season-high 19 points to lead five players in double figures as the Bears never trailed in an 85-66 win over Kansas State. 

The Bears were coming off a three-point home loss to Kansas that ended their Big 12-record 23-game winning streak. They had a 34-point lead with four minutes to go against the Wildcats. They didn't make another field goal after that with the starters on the bench. 

Cartier Diarra had 19 points to lead K-State. The Wildcats are 0-8 in February and host No. 1 Kansas on Saturday.&nbsp;

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Top-ranked Kansas avoided any chance of a letdown after its high-profile win over Baylor by blowing out Oklahoma State 83-58. 

Udoka Azubuike led Kansas with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Ochai Agbaji scored 15 points, Devon Dotson added 11 points and Christian Braun and David McCormack had 10 apiece for the Jayhawks. 

Kansas regained the top spot in the AP poll earlier in the day thanks to its victory over now-No. 2 Baylor.

 Cameron McGriff led the Cowboys with 16 points, though most came with the game well out of reach. Isaac Likekele and Lindy Waters added 11 apiece.
