The TMP-Marian Monarch boys and girls basketball team split a home doubleheader with the Trego Golden Eagles Tuesday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse in Hays.
Girls: Trego 39, TMP 32 OT
The Trego Golden Eagles outscored TMP 10-3 in overtime as they pulled away for the 39-32 win Tuesday.

Trego, ranked eighth in the 2A coaches poll this week, was able to jump out to an early 10-2 lead after TMP struggled to get going on offense. The Monarchs were just 2-of-12 from the floor to start the game and they trailed 12-4 after the first quarter.
Trego took a 10-point lead to open the second quarter at 14-4. Down 10 TMP’s Jaci VonLintel scored five straight sparking a 12-1 run putting TMP on top 16-15. Kassidi Yost’s three free throws gave TMP the lead with just over three minutes left in the first half.
Trego scored seven straight over the final two minutes of the first half and took a 22-16 lead into the halftime break.
Megan Hamel scored six of the first seven points of the second half as TMP took a 23-22 lead.
Trego outscored TMP 7-2 over the final four minutes of the quarter to take a 29-26 lead into the fourth quarter.
TMP held Trego scoreless in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 29 to force overtime.
In the overtime TMP was held to a Sophia Balthazor three-pointer while the Golden Eagles outscored TMP 10-3 on their way to a 39-32 win.
Game highlights
Balthazor scored a team-high 12 points for TMP.
Emma Day and Lili Shubert each scored 10 for Trego.
TMP dropped to 10-3 and 4-1 in the MCL. Trego is 11-3 and 5-1 in the MCL.
Boys: TMP 51, Trego 42
The TMP boys used a 15-3 first-half run to build a double-digit lead and then held off a late Trego rally on their way to a 51-42 win Tuesday.

TMP jumped out to a 18-9 first quarter lead. Jackson Schulte and Dylan Werth combined to score 16 first quarter points for TMP and Kade Harris’ buzzer beating layup gave TMP the nine-point lead.
The Monarchs built their largest lead of the game at 12, 21-9 to open the second quarter.
Trego outscored the Monarchs 12-3 the rest of the way in the first half, as the Monarchs struggled with foul trouble, cutting TMP’s lead to 24-21 at halftime.
Trego cut the deficit to one at 24-23 to open the second half before Lucas Lang hit his second straight three pointer putting TMP back on top by three at 27-23. Werth scored four in-a-row and Harris added a jumper before Schulte scored five straight helping TMP lead by nine at 38-29.
The Monarchs led 38-33 through three quarters.
In the fourth quarter Trego briefly closed within four at 42-38 but the Monarchs made just enough free throws in the final minutes on their way to the 51-42 win.
Game highlights
Schulte led TMP was 24 points and Werth added 11 points.
Charlie Russell led Trego with 11 points.
TMP improves to 10-4 and 4-1 in the MCL.
The 10th ranked Golden Eagles drop to 10-4 and 4-2 in the MCL.
