🏀 Hays heads on the road for sweep of Scott City

Hays High made a rare trip to Scott City on Tuesday evening. The last recorded game in Scott City between the Indians and the Beavers was in 1960. The two had met up since then in the Colby Orange & Black Classic.

Hays High scored the first seven points of the game and never trailed on their way to a fifth win on the season. The Indians led by as many as eight points in the second quarter and took a 21-17 lead into halftime.

Just like the beginning of the game Hays scored the first seven points of the half. The second half run built the advantage to a game high eleven points at 28-17.

However the Hays offense would go cold over the next ten plus minutes, scoring just three free throws. The time allowed Scott City to outscore Hays 14-3 and tie the game at 31 with 1:40 remaining. Carly Lang though scored the Indians' last seven points breaking the 31 all tie with a pair of free throws and then broke a 33 all score with the game final field goal at the :45 mark.

Hays pushed the lead to two possessions at the free throw line to win 38-33.

Carly Lang scored a game high 13, followed by the 11 of Jersey Johnson as Hays moves to 5-9. Scott City falls to 2-12.

#1 Hays 57 - Scott City 35

Hays High came back from a second consecutive double digit first half deficit to pick up a win on Tuesday in Scott City 57-35. Scott City made each of their first five shots which included three from behind the three point line for a 13-3 lead. The Indians used the remaining 3:30 of the first quarter to go on a 10-0 run and tie the contest at 13 through eight minutes.

The Beavers regained the lead one final time by opening the second quarter with a three pointer at 16-13. The Indians led 2-0 at the beginning of the game on a TJ Nunnery alley-oop dunk. They took over the lead with 5:20 remaining in the second quarter at 17-16 and never trailed again. Hays outscored the Beavers 40-19 rest of the game.

A 20-10 fourth quarter took any doubt out of the game for the 57-35 win which marks the fourteenth victory in fourteen tries. 

Jace Linenberger led the Indians with 20 points. TJ Nunnery added 13 and Dalyn Schwarz 11 as the #1 Hays High Indians are now 14-0. Scott City falls to 3-10.

Hays will host Dodge City on Friday.
