BUNKER HILL — The tradition continues as Smoky Hills PBS will again be covering the 3-2-1A State Wrestling Tournament live the weekend of Feb. 25.&nbsp; For more than 30 years, Smoky Hills PBS has aired this tournament and made available DVDs of the broadcast.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;

Action will begin at 10 a.m.&nbsp;Friday, Feb. 25, and continues at 9 a.m.&nbsp;Saturday, Feb. 26.&nbsp; A rebroadcast of the championship finals will air at 9 a.m.&nbsp;Sunday, Feb. 27.

DVDs of the televised rounds will be available for purchase online at&nbsp;<a href="http://www.smokyhillspbs.org/">www.SmokyHillsPBS.org</a>&nbsp;or by calling 1.800.337.4788.

Smoky Hills PBS Gears Up for 3-2-1A State Wrestling

NORTON – The TMP-Marian boys and girls basketball teams
returned to Mid-Continent League play Thursday with a doubleheader sweep of the
Bluejays on the road in Norton.

Girls:TMP 62, Norton 44 The TMP Lady Monarchs opened the game on a 16-4 run and led
wire-to-wire Thursday on their way to a 62-44 win over the Norton Lady Jays.

TMP’s Emilee Lane scored 10 first quarter points as the
Monarchs (16-3, 9-1 MCL) outscored Norton 21-9 in the first period.

Sophia Balthazor knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the
quarter and Jaci VonLintel added five more first quarter points as TMP built a
12-point lead.

The Monarchs continue to extend their lead into the second
quarter with a 12-6 run to take a 33-15 lead. 

They finished the quarter on a 7-2 run and led at halftime
40-21.

TMP took their largest lead of the game coming out of the
halftime break on a Megan Hamel field goal at 43-21.

After Norton ( 5-14, 3-7) cut the lead to 17 points Balthazor
scored 13 straight for TMP to end the third quarter and open the fourth quarter
as the Monarchs secure the 62-44 victory.

Sophia Balthazor led all scorers with 23 points. Jaci
VonLintel added 15 points and Emilee Lane chipped in 13 points and 10 rebounds.
With the 10 rebounds she goes over 700 rebounds for her career.

Boys: TMP 46, Norton 44 OT The TMP boys improved to 2-0 in overtime this season as they
rallied from down 15-points in the first half in a 46-44 win over the Norton Bluejays.

The Monarchs (14-3, 9-0) were able to keep it close in the
opening part of the first quarter thanks to 3-pointers for Gavin Unrein and Kenton
Ginther that cut the Norton lead to 9-8.

The Bluejays (12-6, 8-1) were able to string together a 14-0
run to end the first quarter and big the second on a pair of Eli Jones 3-pointers
for a 23-8 Norton lead.

TMP’s Bryce Seib scored all six points in the second quarter
for the Monarchs that cut the deficit to nine at 23-14 at halftime.

After trailing by nine to open the third quarter TMP
outscored TMP 12-3 to end the third quarter and begin the fourth quarter tying
the game at 34.

The two teams traded the lead back-and-forth twice at the
end of regulation and three more in overtime before TMP’s Dylan Werth got free
with just four seconds left for a layup to put TMP up 46-44.

Dylan Werth led all scorers with 14 points and nine
rebounds. Bryce Seib scored nine and Kade Harris and Gavin Unrein added eight
points each.

The Monarchs are now the lone upbeat team in MCL play with
one more league game set for Tuesday at Plainville.

🏀TMP girls cruise; boys rally for wins at Norton

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – After a winter storm rolled through Jefferson City on Thursda, Fort Hays State took Jason Gym by storm with a 73-35 win over Lincoln University. With the blowout win, FHSU reached at least 20 wins in a season for the 10th&nbsp;time under head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1048">Mark Johnson</a>. The Tigers improved to 20-4 overall and 15-4 in the MIAA, while Lincoln fell to 2-21 overall and 1-17 in the MIAA.

The 38-point win marked the largest margin of victory for the Tigers in an MIAA road game, eclipsing the 33-point win the Tigers produced at Lincoln in 2010-11. The 2010-11 team finished second in the MIAA, won the MIAA Tournament, and went on to play in the NCAA Tournament finishing with 26 wins. The 38-point spread was the second largest for the Tigers in a road game under&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1048">Mark Johnson</a>, with a 42-point win at UC-Colorado Springs all the way back on January 18, 2003 being the largest in a road game during his tenure.

By holding Lincoln to just 35 points, the Tigers set a new program low for points allowed in an MIAA game, eclipsing the old record of 44 by nine. The old record was set on January 28, 2015 at Emporia State in a 66-44 win. It also set a new low for points allowed to a conference opponent during the&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/coaches.aspx?rc=1048">Mark Johnson</a>&nbsp;era, which goes back to 2001-02. This was the first time one of his teams held a conference opponent under 40. The 35 points were the second-fewest allowed by the Tigers overall this season after holding Manhattan Christian to just 34 points earlier this season. The Tigers took command of this game by halftime with a 31-12 lead. The 12 points scored by Lincoln matched the lowest allowed by the Tigers to a conference opponent in the first half this season, which they did to Nebraska-Kearney on December 11 in a 64-46 win in Hays. After leading just 12-9, the Tigers went on a 19-3 run to close the first half. FHSU held Lincoln to just those three points over the final 12:19 of the first half. FHSU limited Lincoln to just 4-of-19 shooting from the field in the first half (21.1 percent) and shut Lincoln out beyond the 3-point line (0-of-8). The Tigers really put the game away in the first seven minutes of the second half, going on a 22-2 run to take a commanding 39-point lead of 53-14. The lead eventually reached its peak with 6:01 to go with FHSU leading by 42 (68-26) before the final margin rested at 38. Combining the lock down of Lincoln's offense from the first half through the first seven minutes of the second half, FHSU held Lincoln to just five points for just shy of a 20-minute span. Lincoln finished at just 26 percent from the field as a team for the game (13-of-50), while FHSU countered at 49.2 percent (29-of-59). 🏀 Tigers take Jefferson City by storm, win by 38

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The ninth-ranked Fort Hays State women's basketball team held serve on the road Thursday evening (Feb. 17), defeating Lincoln 76-65 to stay tied for first place in the MIAA standings. The Tigers (22-3, 16-3) hit more than 50 percent from the floor for the third game in a row while burying nine shots from behind the arc to grab the road win. Six early points from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6443">Katie Wagner</a>&nbsp;and a 3-pointer from&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6437">Jaden Hobbs</a>&nbsp;helped the Tigers to an early four-point lead before Lincoln scored six straight to take the lead, 13-11. Fort Hays State proceeded to close the quarter on a 9-0 run to lead by seven, capped off by a&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6439">Whitney Randall</a>&nbsp;layup just before the horn sounded.

 Ariz. (AP) — The street next to the San Francisco Giants spring 
training facility was missing its usual bustle on an unseasonably cool 
Wednesday morning.

Bartender Sean Ramirez was stacking plates and 
cleaning glasses before his lunch shift at Los Olivos Mexican Patio, 
contemplating Major League Baseball’s lockout.

“This is usually 
our time of year, man,” said Ramirez, a son of the restaurant’s owner 
who has worked behind the bar for 15 years. “This is the spot, the 
hangout for Giants fans. We’re usually packed with fans from Sacramento 
and San Francisco.”

The sounds of spring baseball — from the crack
 of wooden bats, to music blaring from stadium speakers, to shouted 
requests from autograph seekers — were muted or completely missing on 
what was supposed to be the day that pitchers and catchers began 
workouts in preparation for opening day on March 31.

Instead, it 
was Day 77 of a lockout that’s become the second-longest work stoppage 
in baseball history. Many minor leaguers are reporting to camp in 
Arizona and Florida on dates that vary by team, but the 40-man roster 
players won’t be on the field until MLB and the players’ association 
reach a compromise.

For now, there’s not much happening at all.

Maybe
 the most depressing development for baseball fans is there haven’t been
 any real developments toward breaking the financial stalemate. Neither 
side made any public statement this week to acknowledge that spring 
training is failing to start on schedule for the first time since 1995.

In
 Florida on Wednesday morning, the statue of late owner George 
Steinbrenner that sits outside of the Yankees spring facility faced a 
mostly empty parking lot and the closed ticket windows. The temperatures
 was in the 70s with a brisk east wind blowing in from right field, 
where the workout would have been taking place.

In Arizona, it was
 nearly silent outside of Salt River Fields, which is where the Arizona 
Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies share facilities. The cool and damp 
weather added to the baseball malaise, as a parking lot security guard 
wandered around without much to do.

This is the third straight 
spring training that is far from normal following a 2020 cut short by 
the COVID pandemic and a 2021 with limited attendance due to health 
restrictions.

Ramirez said he has no idea what Los Olivos will 
look like this February and March if there’s no baseball. He’s just 
hoping the two sides reach an agreement soon.

“I am an optimist 
and I believe we will have an agreement in time to play our regular 
schedule,” baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said at a news conference 
last Thursday. “I see missing games as a disastrous outcome for this 
industry, and we’re committed to making an agreement in an effort to 
avoid that.”

The 2020 regular season was shortened from 162 games 
per team to 60 games, and regular-season games were played in empty 
ballparks. Last year, only Texas began the season at 100% capacity, with
 other U.S, teams reaching full capacity availability ranging from 
Atlanta on May 7 to Seattle on July 2. MLB attendance was 45.3 million, 
down from 68.5 million over 2019.

Manfred
 said last week that about four weeks of training would be needed, with 
additional time for ratification and players to travel to camps.

When that time comes is anybody’s guess. Meanwhile, fans and workers like Ramirez are stuck in limbo.

“This is what we rely on to help us the rest of the year,” the bartender said. “We don’t know what to expect.”

First tip between the Black and Gold Tigers and the Blue Tigers is set for 5:30 p.m. With just four games remaining on the schedule, Fort Hays State (21-3, 15-3 MIAA) enters the penultimate weekend of the regular season tied for first place in the MIAA standings. The Tigers have secured a spot in the 2022 MIAA Basketball Championship, presented by Citizen's Bank &amp; Trust, but still have work to do if they want to win a second-consecutive regular season MIAA title. With just 10 teams advancing to the championship tournament, Lincoln (5-19, 1-17 MIAA) has been mathematically eliminated from postseason competition. Wagner led the team with 21 points in that contest. She averages 13.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game in three games against LU. The Tigers enter the weekend ranked first in the NCAA DII Central Region rankings. The top seed in the final regional ranks will have the opportunity to host the regional tournament March 11-14. INDIANAPOLIS - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team is ranked first in the initial release of the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region rankings, distributed on Wednesday (Feb. 16) by the NCAA office. The Tigers are one of five MIAA programs listed amongst the top 10 teams in the region at this point of the season. Fort Hays State and St. Cloud State are tied for the fewest losses in the region with three, but the Tigers defeated SCSU earlier this season in Hays. The Northern Sun has three teams ranked in the top eight, while the Great American Conference has two teams amongst the top five. Fort Hays State has the top performance indicator in the region at 32.318 and the best in-region RPI at .601. The Tigers have two more games on the schedule against regionally-ranked opponents, including Saturday (Feb. 19) at No. 10 Central Missouri and next Wednesday (Feb. 23) at home against No. 6 Missouri Western. This year's NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship will be back to a full field of 64 teams made up of eight eight-team regionals. Several times in the past three years, the NFHS has 
shared concerns about the declining number of officials for high school 
sports. Last fall, in fact, the headline stated that the officiating 
shortage had reached a crisis level across the country. A recent survey 
now provides solid proof for those concerns.

A survey of state 
high school associations indicates that approximately 50,000 individuals
 have discontinued their service as high school officials since the 
2018-19 season – the last full school year unaffected by the pandemic.

Dana
 Pappas, who has been on board as NFHS director of officiating services 
since last summer, said 43 states have reported losses totaling more 
than 33,000 officials. However, several larger states have not reported 
yet, so the exact figure is likely to approach 50,000.

While there
 are several contributing factors to this sizeable decline, such as the 
age-old problem of unsportsmanlike behavior by students, coaches, 
parents and other fans, Pappas said one of the latest challenges is 
related to the pandemic.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

“In talking to some of the state 
directors, many of these losses are people who were probably on the 
brink of retirement, and then COVID kind of forced the issue,” Pappas 
said. “Nationally, we’ve gone from about 240,000 to 200,000, which has 
become an area of concern for states just to cover games at all or with 
the maximum number of officials on a crew.”

Interestingly, about 
the same number of individuals – between 50,000 and 60,000 – have 
expressed an interest in officiating the past four years through the 
NFHS’&nbsp;#BecomeAnOfficial Program, but the number of officials actually 
coming in the front door do not come close to matching those going out 
the back door.

There is some good news on the horizon, however. 
After hearing the same message – shortage of officials – from every 
level of sport in the country, the NFHS is orchestrating and leading a 
first-ever National Officials Consortium Summit in April to collectively
 address the concerns.

“What we discovered was that everyone was 
working on the same problem, but there is no strategic collaboration 
between the entities,” Pappas said. “We understand that everybody is 
reliant upon our pipeline at the high school level. So, we want to work 
together to replenish and keep that pipeline healthy and figure out ways
 that we can do the work collectively instead of everyone doing it on 
their own.”

In addition to the NCAA, more than 30 national-level 
sports organizations have committed to be a part of the consortium 
hosted by the NFHS in Indianapolis April 12-14. Various youth, high 
school, college and professional sports organizations, as well as 
national governing bodies for Olympic sports, have expressed an interest
 in coming together to address the growing shortage of officials.

“In
 our discussions with these groups, we realize that instead of just 
talking about the problem, they want to be a part of the solution, which
 is exciting,” Pappas said. “We want to get all hands on deck instead of
 everyone trying to do their own thing to accomplish the same goal.”&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

While
 unsportsmanlike behavior continues to be a major issue, it’s not one 
unique to high school sports. It will be helpful to address this issue –
 and others – with ideas on solutions from all levels of sport.&nbsp;&nbsp;

In
 the meantime, the NFHS is continuing in its attempt to recruit more 
individuals to officiating, including current high school athletes and 
current parents of athletes.

“Many sport parents have been around 
the sport for 18 years, and then their kid graduates, so we’re trying to
 reach out to those individuals to get them to stay involved on the 
field, on the court or on the mat as officials,” Pappas said.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“Kids
 coming out of high school think they have two options – to play sports 
or to coach sports. They forget about the people who are officiating 
their games! So, how do we make officiating something that is at the 
forefront of their minds? When they are leaving high school or leaving 
college, they need to understand that there is an entire career path 
they could follow in the world of high school officiating.”

In an 
attempt to encourage more individuals to consider officiating high 
school sports, the NFHS is trying to celebrate those involved and turn 
negatives into positives.

“A lot of times in the news we hear 
people blaming officials because they lost a game,” Pappas said. “We 
hear stories about assaults and stories about poor treatment of 
officials. So, we are trying to highlight individuals within the 
officiating community to talk about how officiating was transformative 
for them in their lives, and why it’s important to get involved.”&nbsp;

 work continues to retain more officials by improving behavior of 
players, coaches and fans, recruitment efforts must intensify to keep 
high school sports going in our nation’s schools.

 the meantime, the NFHS is continuing in its attempt to recruit more 
individuals to officiating, including current high school athletes and 
current parents of athletes.“Many sport parents have been around 
the sport for 18 years, and then their kid graduates, so we’re trying to
 reach out to those individuals to get them to stay involved on the 
field, on the court or on the mat as officials,” Pappas said.&nbsp;&nbsp;“Kids
 coming out of high school think they have two options – to play sports 
or to coach sports. They forget about the people who are officiating 
their games! So, how do we make officiating something that is at the 
forefront of their minds? When they are leaving high school or leaving 
college, they need to understand that there is an entire career path 
they could follow in the world of high school officiating.”In an 
attempt to encourage more individuals to consider officiating high 
school sports, the NFHS is trying to celebrate those involved and turn 
negatives into positives.“A lot of times in the news we hear 
people blaming officials because they lost a game,” Pappas said. “We 
hear stories about assaults and stories about poor treatment of 
officials. So, we are trying to highlight individuals within the 
officiating community to talk about how officiating was transformative

The TMP girls closed out their non-conference schedule with a double-digit win over the Great Bend Panthers while the TMP boys rallied for a win in the final seconds over the Panthers Tuesday at Al Billinger Fieldhouse in Hays.

Girls: TMP 58, Great Bend 47 The TMP Lady Monarchs outscored Great Bend 16-3 to open the
game and led wire-to-wire, despite a late comeback attempt from the Panthers in
a 58-47 win Tuesday.

TMP seniors Emilee Lane and Kassidi Yost combined to score
14 of the first 16 points of the game for TMP as the Monarchs rushed out to a
16-5 first quarter lead.

The Monarchs (15-3, 8-1 MCL) took their biggest lead of the
second half at 15, 26-11 thanks to a 10-4 run aided by 3-pointers from Megan
Hamel and Brooke Koeningsman.

Great Bend (6-11, 1-4 WAC) closed the gap to nine at the end
of the first half at 26-17.

They finished the first half and opened the second half on a
9-0 run to cut it to a six-point TMP lead at 26-20.

But the Monarchs were quickly able to get it back to a
15-point margin at the end of the third quarter thanks to Sophia Balthazor who
scored seven points in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter TMP had built a 22-point lead at 51-29
before Great Bend took advantage of the Monarchs attempt to coast the rest of
the way.

Great Bend was able to erase the double-digit deficit and
pulled within seven at 52-45 thank to a 16-1 run.

TMP went back to their starters and key reserves and closed
the game out for a 58-47 win.

Emilee Lane scored a game-high 17 points. Sophia Balthazor
scored all 13 of her points in the second half and Kassidi Yost added 12
points. 

Boys: TMP 39, Great Bend 36 The TMP boys scored the final eight point of the game and Kenton
Ginther’s 3-pointer with three second lefts lifted the Monarchs to a 39-36 win
over Great Bend.

Senior Andrew Schwartz got the scoring started for TMP
(14-3, 8-0 MCL) with a 3-pointer on the Monarchs first possession. 

Great Bend (6-11, 2-3 WAC) countered with a 6-0 run to lead
6-3. The two teams traded the lead back-and-four before a Great Bend three at
the end of the quarter gave the Panthers a 13-12 lead.

Dylan Werth scored five straight to start the second quarter
for TMP, part of 12 straight Werth points, to put TMP up 17-13.

A second Schwartz 3-pointer gave TMP a 20-15 lead but Great
Bend quickly erased that deficit and stormed back to take the lead. 

The Panthers ended the first half and opened the second half
on an 11-0 run to take a 26-20 lead.

Great Bend led by five twice in the third quarter and twice more
in the fourth quarter, the last time at 36-31 with just over five minutes left in
the game.

TMP held Great Bend scoreless for the final five minutes
while they finished on an 8-0 run.

A Dylan Werth field goal cut it to a three-point Panther
lead and then with just over three and a half minutes left Kade Harris hit his
only field goal, a 3-pointer that tied the game at 36.

Neither team was able to break the tie until Kenton Ginther
hit his second 3-pointer of the night to put TMP up 39-36 with just three
second left.

Kade Harris stole a pass on Great Bend’s final offense
possession that sealed the 39-36 win for TMP.

TMP’s Dylan Werth led all scorers with 18 points.

The TMP girls and boys teams travel to Norton Thursday as
they return to MCL play.

🏀 TMP boys rally, girls hold off Great Bend Tuesday

HAYS - Hays High continued their four game home stand with a match up against Abilene on Tuesday night. Girls:&nbsp;Abilene 25 - #10 Hays 41 The Hays High girls entered the game after learning they had been ranked tenth in the Class 5A rankings earlier in the day. It was the first state ranking for the girls program since January of 2018.

Hays hit their first shot of the game and three of the first four field goal attempts to take a 9-2 lead. Abilene scored just a single point over a span of 9:45, but Hays Hays pushed their advantage to just 13-3.

The Cowgirls broke their cold streak by making six of seven field goals and three of four free throws that netted a 16-4 run and a lead of 19-17. The Indians scored on an offense rebound to close the first half to tie the game at 19.

The second half was more of the same, with Hays pulling out to a near double digit lead and Abilene reeling them back in. The Cowgirls' final push closed the game down to a 28-24 contest with Hays leading.

Carly Lang knocked down a three pointer that sent the Indians on a 13-1 run for the remainder of the game and a 41-25 victory.

Hays improves to 11-6. Abilene drops to 3-15. Jillyan Sheldon led the Indians with 10 points.

Boys:&nbsp;Abilene 46 - #3 Hays 70 Hays never trailed Abilene and never led by less than two points at 7-5 as the Indians beat the Cowboys 70-46. The defense from Hays didn't allow Abilene to score on back-to-back possessions until three minutes into the third quarter.

Hays took a two possession lead with five minutes to go in the first quarter and led 19-14 after the first eight minutes. The Indians built their first double digit lead on back-to-back three pointers to open the second quarter and led by at least 10 points for rest of the game.

Hays led by 12 in the third quarter before a 8-0 run gave the Indians their first 20 point lead at 50-30. The Indians outscored Abilene 20-13 in the fourth quarter for the 70-46 victory.

Jace Linenberger led the Indians with 20 points and a career high 14 rebounds. Carson Kieffer added 13 while Noah Weimer and Jordan Dale each scored 12. Linenberger moved up to tenth in all-time rebounding at 413, passing Eddie Schumacher (1971), Gene McCurdy (1955) and Shane Berens (2017.)

The Tigers are No. 22 this week, their first appearance in the NABC Top 25 since the 2013-14 season. Fort Hays State's last appearance in the NABC Top 25 occurred on February 4, 2014. 🎧 FHSU basketball coaches hold weekly press conferences

The Fort Hays State women's basketball team remained in the top 10 in the latest release of each national poll. The Tigers head on the road this week ranked ninth in the WBCA DII Coaches Poll and sitting in 10th in the D2SIDA Media Poll. The Tigers are one of four programs in Division II to be ranked in the top 10 in each release of the coaches poll so far this season alongside Drury, Lander and Texas A&amp;M Commerce. Fort Hays State is the only MIAA program listed in either top 25 list this week. The only other conference rival recognized in the poll is Missouri Southern, who is receiving votes in the media ranks. Glenville State, the lone undefeated team from NCAA Division I or Division II, sits atop the coaches poll for another week, while Ashland is first in the media poll. Fort Hays State is 5-1 all-time when playing as the ninth-ranked team in the coaches poll and 132-34 when ranked during the DII era. The Tigers were last ranked No. 9 in the coaches poll one year ago (2/9/21) before going on the road to grab wins over Rogers State and Northeastern State. Now 21-3 overall and 15-3 in MIAA play, the Tigers are tied for first place in the MIAA standings with Missouri Southern (18-5, 15-3 MIAA) with four games to go in the regular season. Fort Hays State will play three of its final four games on the road, including this weekend's road trip to Lincoln on Thursday (Feb. 17, 5:30 p.m.) and to Central Missouri on Saturday (Feb. 19, 1 p.m.).

The men are slotted 12th in the latest release, while the women come in 21st this week. The men accumulated 62.71 team points from 14 nationally-ranked performances.&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6513">Ryan Stanley</a>&nbsp;still leads the country in the pole vault with his school-record mark of 17-1.75, while&nbsp;<a href="https://fhsuathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6484">Nolan Churchman's</a>&nbsp;record total of 5,304 in the heptathlon is sixth-best nationally. 🏃‍♂️ Both FHSU indoor teams remain ranked

The Hays High boys remain third in Class 5A in the latest rankings released from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Thursday. The Hays girls make their debut at No. 10. 

The TMP-Marian girls drop to spots to No. 9 in Class 3A. Phillipsburg, who beat the Monarchs in two overtimes Friday, moves up a spot to No. 8. Goodland holds at No. 6. All three will be in the Goodland 3A Sub-State.

The Trego boys fall three spots to No. 8 in Class 2A.

HAYS, Kan. - Due to this week's forecast in central Oklahoma, the Fort Hays State softball team has announced a change to its schedule. Instead of playing on Thursday and Friday (Feb. 17-18), the Tigers will now take to the diamond on Sunday and Monday (Feb. 20-21). The Tigers (2-6) will still face off with the same four teams they were initially slated to play. FHSU will open the week against Southern Arkansas (4-6) on Sunday at 10 a.m. at Piedmont High School in Piedmont, Okla. before making the short drive east to Edmond and the University of Central Oklahoma to face off with Arkansas Tech (6-4) at 2:30 p.m. Both of Monday's games will be played at Oklahoma Christian University in Oklahoma City, with FHSU slated to take on East Central (1-4) at noon before wrapping up the trip against&nbsp;Oklahoma Baptist (6-3) at 2:15 p.m. Due to the change in schedule, the availability of live video and/or stats is unknown at this time. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Ochai Agbaji scored 20 points and No. 6 Kansas saw all five starters score in double figures in a 76-62 victory over Oklahoma State on Monday night.

Kansas, which wore throwback jerseys from the 1921-22 season, the year the Jayhawks won their first Helms Foundation national championship, pulled away late in the first half and never was threatened in the second half.

“It was nice not having to sweat,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “I don’t think we played great, by any stretch, but I thought we were pretty good. We weren’t very good the first 12 minutes.”

Kansas had been struggling to put opponents away recently. With one exception, an 83-59 victory over defending champion Baylor, the Jayhawks had five single-digit wins and two losses in their last eight games.

Joining Agbaji in double figures for Kansas (21-4, 10-2 Big 12) was Christian Braun with 16 points, Dajuan Harris and David McCormack with 12 points each, and Jalen Wilson with 11. McCormack also had 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.

“I thought he was great tonight,” Self said of Agbaji. And the coach said he wasn’t alone.

The lead reached 20 points when Braun hit two free throws with 13:36 left in the half. By the midway point of the second half, the lead was 26.Still, Self has something to use for motivation. The Jayhawks missed 16 of their last 17 shots.“That wasn’t a good finish at all,” he said. “But I would have taken a 14-point win before the game all day long.”Harris said Self wasn’t too happy with the finish.“Coach was really mad because we didn’t close the game out really good,” he said. “We were up 25 or so. We’ve got to a better job at the end. If we do that, keep sharing the ball, playing good defense, we’ll be in good shape.”Both teams struggled at the start and Kansas led 15-13 before hitting three straight 3s to open up a 26-19 lead.
