AUSTIN, Texas – Fort Hays State sophomore Alex Schremmer was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Team on Tuesday.
Schremmer was a second-team selection as a
special teams player after serving as a kick and punt returner in 2022.
Sports Information and Athletic Communication professionals nationwide
vote on the Academic All-America Team, which reflects both academic and
athletic accomplishments of the individuals selected.
Schremmer has a 3.87 cumulative grade point average as a biology major
at FHSU. He had earned the MIAA Academic Excellence Award (cumulative
4.0 GPA) twice prior to this year.
On the field, Schremmer finished 2022 with 253 total kick return yards
(197 kickoff and 56 punt). He averaged 21.9 yards on kickoff returns and
14.0 on punt returns. In the previous season, Schremmer had 162 yards
as a wide receiver to go along with 217 total return yards.
Schremmer is the 15th individual in FHSU Football history to
earn Academic All-America honors from College Sports Communicators
(formerly known as CoSIDA).
Connor Shedeed was the last Tiger football student-athlete to earn the honor, receiving first-team honors as a defensive back in 2018.
FHSU had eight individuals considered for
Academic All-America selection this year at their respective positions
after receiving All-District honors.
