Hammeke averaged 29.5 points, 4.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a pair of conference victories against Northeastern State and Rogers State. The Hutchinson, Kan. native erupted for a career-high 36 points in an overtime win over the RiverHawks, including 24 points in the second half and another six in overtime. He went 13-of-18 from the field with four 3-point field goals and was 6-of-8 at the free-throw line. The two-time All-MIAA selection followed up that performance with a team-high 23 points in a double-digit win over Rogers State, including 14 points at the charity stripe. Wilson is earning Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the first time this season and the second time in his career. In KU’s 87-55 win against Texas Southern, the Denton, Texas, redshirt-junior forward recorded his fifth 20-point effort of the season with 22 points to go along with five rebounds and six assists. In the 91-65 win versus Seton Hall in the Big 12/BIG EAST Battle, Wilson recorded his Big 12-leading fifth double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Wilson leads the Big 12 and is seventh nationally in points per game with a 21.9 scoring average. His five double-doubles lead the league and are third nationally.

Wilson’s 21 career double-doubles has him tied for 11th on the KU career list with Eric Chenowith (1998-2001). Wilson has scored 197 points through his first nine games, which is the second-most through nine games in the Bill Self era, only trailing All-American Ochai Agbaji’s 202 from last season.

Dick is earning Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors for the second time this season. The Wichita, Kansas, freshman guard also earned the accolade on Nov. 21. This past week, Dick tied his season high with six rebounds and set his personal best with three steals while scoring 15 points in Kansas’ 85-55 win against Texas Southern. Posting 15 points, including 6-for-6 from the free throw line, Dick tied his season high with three assists and had two steals in the 91-65 win versus Seton Hall in the Big 12/BIG EAST Battle. These two former league rivals met last season in Lawrence for the first time after not playing a regular-season contest since Feb. 2012. This series dates back to 1908 and Kansas leads 175-95. KU has won three straight and eight of the last nine meetings with MU.

CINCINNATI (AP) — Patrick Mahomes had only lost to one quarterback three times — until Sunday.

Mahomes fell to 0-3 against Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, including playoffs, when Burrow rallied his team to a 27-24 victory.

Tom Brady is the only other QB with three wins over Mahomes, but he also has three losses.

Burrow has beaten the Chiefs three times in this calendar year alone. Cincinnati won 34-31 on Jan. 2, then prevailed 27-24 in overtime in the conference championship game four weeks later to send the Bengals to the Super Bowl.

This time, Burrow engineered a go-ahead touchdown drive after Cincinnati (8-4) forced a fumble from usually reliable tight end Travis Kelce.

“They just have a well put-together team,” Mahomes said. “You saw the offense — even though it has playmakers, they'll take their time and utilize the clock.”

None more so than on the final drive, when Burrow converted two third downs — including a 14-yard throw to Tee Higgins on third-and-11 — to ensure Mahomes wouldn't get the ball back.

“They have a great quarterback,” he said. “A guy who has won a lot of football games, even if that was in college. And now he's won a lot of football games in the NFL. He's someone who competes to the very end, too.”

Chiefs coach Andy Reid doesn't think the Bengals' recent success against his squad is anything extraordinary.

“I think it's (just) two good football teams playing each other. We've got to take care of business down the stretch," he said.

“It's part of the NFL, you know,” Kansas City linebacker Willie Gay said. “They're not doing anything we haven't seen. You win some, you lose some. Unfortunately, we've lost the last three we've played against this team. I'm sure we'll see them again.”

Burrow is the only quarterback to face Mahomes multiple times and be undefeated in head-to-head matchups, including the playoffs. The level-headed Burrow doesn't get too worked up over statistics like that.

“It just felt like another regular-season game. It didn’t feel any different," the third-year quarterback said.

Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd said the wins over Kansas City show the quality of the team Cincinnati has built.

“It's a message to all the other guys who doubted us and think we had a lucky year last year,” Boyd said. “Nah, we're here to stay, we're here to keep winning, and we're here to fight for another Super Bowl.”

The Chiefs are eager for another shot at the Bengals.

“The good news is,” safety Justin Reid said, “we have a lot of football left to play in December, and I'm sure we're going to see those guys again come January.”

Burrow, working from his own 47, then completed six of seven passes for 53 yards, finishing the drive with an 8-yard TD pass to backup running back Chris Evans that gave the Bengals the lead with 8:54 remaining.

The subsequent Chiefs drive was snuffed out when Joseph Ossai sacked Mahomes, and Harrison Butker missed a 55-yard field-goal attempt wide right.

🏈 Burrow tops Mahomes again, rallies Bengals past Chiefs

BALTIMORE (AP) — All Tyler Huntley and the Baltimore Ravens needed was one great drive.

That was enough to reverse the team's trend of late-game angst and keep the Ravens atop the AFC North.

Huntley led Baltimore 91 yards in 16 plays on its final possession, capping it with a 2-yard touchdown run with 28 seconds remaining that gave the Ravens a 10-9 win over the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Huntley took over when Lamar Jackson left the game with a knee injury after the first quarter.

Coach John Harbaugh said it is not a season-ending type of injury, and Jackson could be back as soon as next weekend.

“That was a great win. December football, you’ve got to find a way to win the game and I’m proud of our team,” Harbaugh said. “I’m proud of every single guy."

With or without Jackson, the Ravens (8-4) were mostly shut down offensively. Neither team managed 300 total yards, but when it needed to, Baltimore drove almost the whole length of the field. The Ravens were aided by two big penalties — for unnecessary roughness and pass interference — on the Broncos.

Once in the red zone, Huntley converted on fourth-and-2 from the Denver 18 with a short run. Then he slipped a pass to Kenyan Drake along the sideline for 13 yards and scored his touchdown on the next play.

“We had to stay calm, focus on the play that was called at that time and just try to execute the best we could,” Huntley said. “I was just thinking about the game. Looking at the clock, how much time we had left in the game. That was my focus at that moment.”

Russell Wilson led the Broncos (3-9) back into Baltimore territory, but Brandon McManus came up short on a 63-yard field goal as time expired.

Denver's offense couldn't shake out of its season-long funk, and three field goals by McManus weren't enough. The Broncos have lost four straight, scoring only 45 points in that span.

“I talked to the guys afterward in the locker room, and I'm just telling them that at the end of the day, the two things we can control is our attitude and our energy,” Wilson said. “If we can control those two things in the midst of the storm, we can turn this thing around.”

Baltimore's four losses were all by four points or fewer, and the Ravens were coming off&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/baltimore-ravens-jacksonville-jaguars-nfl-sports-fe693dc30016fc78df12bab4ea8fca63">a 28-27 defeat</a>&nbsp;in which Jacksonville scored the winning touchdown and 2-point conversion with 14 seconds to play. This was a happier finish for Baltimore.

“Nobody flinched, nobody batted an eye,” Harbaugh said. “These guys were bringing blitzes from everywhere. Our tackles, our offensive line, stepped up. Every single guy on this offense made plays."

Jackson left&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/baltimore-ravens-nfl-sports-afc-north-6b502fd544e4a02950e87db5c88ebd1a">after being sacked</a>&nbsp;by Jonathon Cooper on the last play of the first quarter. The 2019 NFL MVP didn't seem as though he was in too much distress when he exited the sideline tent and walked to the tunnel, but he didn't come back in the game.

Huntley went 27 of 32 for 187 yards with an interception. Wilson was 17 of 22 for 189 yards.

K-State's No. 9 ranking in the final College Football Playoff Top 25 of the season is its highest for a final ranking since the CFP began in 2014. The game will take place inside Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium at 4:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN.

It will be Kansas’ second appearance in school history at the Liberty Bowl, with the first coming on Dec. 17, 1973, when Kansas fell to NC State, 31-18. Head Coach Lance Leipold has Kansas making its first Bowl appearance since the 2008 Insight Bowl and Kansas’ 13th&nbsp;all-time Bowl appearance. The Jayhawks enter this year’s AutoZone Liberty Bowl with a 6-6 record in Bowl appearances all-time.

Kansas and Arkansas will meet for the third time in their history, with Kansas leading the all-time series at 2-0. The two teams last met in 1906 in Lawrence (37-5), with the first meeting coming in 1905 in Little Rock (6-0).

Kansas enters the AutoZone Liberty Bowl at 6-6 on the season, after racing out to a 5-0 start, its best start since 2009. Kansas opened the season with a 56-10 victory over Tennessee Tech, before claiming its first win in program history at West Virginia, 55-42 (OT), on Sept. 10.

The Jayhawks carried their momentum on the road to Houston on Sept. 17, where Kansas defeated the Houston Cougars, 48-30. Kansas returned home for a three-game homestand, defeating Duke (35-27) and Iowa State (14-11), leading to their first AP Top-25 ranking since the 2009 season, ranking No. 19.

Kansas State (7-1) took a 47-45 lead on Nae'Qwan Tomlin's layup and Marquis Nowell answered Ballard's free throw with a bucket to extend the Wildcats' lead to three.

Ballard sank two free throws, Craig Porter Jr. buried a jumper and Wichita State (4-4) grabbed a 50-49 lead with 2:13 to go. Nowell sank 1 of 2 free throws to knot the score, then stole the ball and sank a 3-pointer with an assist from Desi Sills to put K-State up 53-50 with 54 seconds left. The Shockers turned the ball over on their final two possessions.

Tomlin finished with 14 points and six rebounds for K-State. Nowell scored 11 with seven assists.

Porter topped the Shockers with 11 points.

🏀 Kansas State rallies late to turn back Wichita State

HAYS - The Fort Hays State Tigers had three players score in double-figures and hit 10-straight free throws in the final minute and a half for a 65-55 win over Rogers State. The Tigers have won seven-straight and improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA. The Hillcats are now 5-3 and 1-1 in conference play.

Rogers State built a seven-point lead with 8:18 to play in the first half but the Tigers countered with a 13-4 run to take the lead back at 21-19 ona&nbsp; Kaleb Hammeke 3-pointer. Bjarni Jonnson scored on a fast-break layup to close out the half and give the Tigers a 23-21 lead.

The Tigers never relinquished the lead in the second half. Up by just two, Elihah Nnanabu hit a 3-pointer to push the lead to 38-33. RSU answered with three to pull back within two but Geoff Hamperian and Jaheim Holden followed with back-to-back threes to push the lead to eight with 10 minutes to play. The Hillcats never got closer than five points the rest of the way. 

The FHSU lead reached 10 with 1:47 remaining. They would hit all of their free throws down to stretch to maintain the 10-point lead. Hammeke led the Tigers with 23 points, which included a 14-of-17 effort at the free-throw line. Nnanabu added 15 on&nbsp;6-of-9 shooting. Jonsson had his second-straight double-figure game with 10 points, eight of which came in the first half.&nbsp;

Joey Saracco led Rogers State with 20 points and 12 rebounds and was the only Hillcat player to reach double figures in scoring.&nbsp; Both teams shot under 40 percent from the field and under 30 percent beyond the 3-point arc. FHSU made 11 more free throws than Rogers State. The Tigers also outscored RSU by 12 in points off turnovers.

UP NEXT Fort Hays State heads on the road next weekend to Missouri Western on Saturday and Northwest Missouri State on Sunday to continue MIAA play. Game times will be 3:30 p.m. each day.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Tigers have won seven-straight and improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the MIAA. 🏀 Hays City Shootout Day 3 Results

The Hays girls finished runner-up after making the Hays City Shootout finals for the 13th time. The Indians trailed by ten with less than three minutes remaining but couldn't not get a buzzer beating three pointer to drop in, falling 39-36.

Hays had just one lead in the championship game at 4-2. The game was tied four times in the first quarter, including 10-10 after the first eight minutes. Hays tied the game at 14 points and trailed 18-15 at halftime.

Northside led 24-20 heading to the fourth quarter and pushed their advantage to 36-26 with 2:40 left in the game. The Indians started chipping away at the lead making six straight free throws to get within five at 38-33. Carly Lang hit a deep three with one minute remaining for a 38-36 score.&nbsp;

That made field goal proved to be the Indians final points. Northside made just one of their final six free throws leaving the chance for Hays to tie the game but the Indians missed a pair of threes and had a turnover.

Jillyan Sheldon led Hays with a season high ten points. Carly Lang and Molly Martin were named to the All-Tournament team. Lang was named Most Inspirational Player. Erianna Gooden scored 21 and Karys Washington added 15, both were named to the All-Tournament team as well.

Lang was the Most Inspirational Player and Gooden the Most Outstanding Player. Gooden, a sophomore, earned the honor last year as well.

Hays falls to 2-1 and will travel to Manhattan on Tuesday.

The Hays High boys wrapped up their appearance in the 40th Gerald Mitchell Hays City Shootout with a third place finish on Saturday afternoon.

It took overtime before the Indians could finish off the Hugoton Eagles 57-56. Hugoton scored the first two points of the game before the Indians scored three quick points and did not trail again until fourth quarter.

Hays built the lead up to ten points in the second quarter when the Eagles answered with a 7-0 run. The Indians scored just before the halftime buzzer to take a 32-27 lead to the locker room

Hays rebuilt their lead to nine points at 38-29 with five minutes left in the third quarter. That's when Hugoton started chipping away at the lead and pulled within one at 40-39 though the end of the quarter.

The Eagles grabbed the lead back at 44-42 and 52-50. The final with forty-five seconds left in regulation. Jack Weimer hit a basket with twenty seconds left and Hugoton didn't get a good luck at the buzzer.

It took nearly half of the overtime period for either team to get onto the scoreboard. Weimer knocked in a pair of free throws for a two point lead but it was answered back by a Hugoton three. An Eagle free throw pushed the lead for Hugoton up to 56-54.&nbsp;

Following a Hays timeout Weimer knocked down a right sideline three for a 57-56 score with :08 left. Hugoton used their final two timeouts but missed on three pointer at the buzzer.

Jack Weimer led Hays with 14 points. Keamonie Archie and Kyzer Fox each recorded double doubles. Archie with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Fox at 13 points and 10 rebounds. Rylee Riddlesperger had 22 for Hugoton.

Hays finishes the tournament at 2-1 and will be in Manhattan on Tuesday.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Deuce Vaughn remembers what Chris Klieman told him when recruiting the running back to Kansas State.

“Coach Klieman said we’re going to build a culture that’s going to win championships. It’s going to be built on team, player-first, a player-led team,” said Vaughn, the 5-foot-6 dynamo who was the Big 12 championship game MVP. “And we built that.”

Vaughn ran for 130 yards with a 44-yard touchdown and was the game's MVP, former backup Will Howard threw two touchdowns and Ty Zentner kicked a 31-yard field goal in overtime as the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/college-football-sports-kansas-texas-christian-horned-frogs-state-wildcats-2161b88c6177c50d5547c0487fb65d24">No. 13 Wildcats beat third-ranked playoff hopeful TCU 31-28</a>&nbsp;on Saturday.

“Big 12 champions has a nice ring to it,” said Klieman, who is in his fourth season at Kansas State.

The Wildcats (10-3, No. 10 CFP), likely headed to the Sugar Bowl, reached 10 wins for the first time since 2012, when it last won a Big 12 title by sharing the regular-season crown with Oklahoma during a six-year hiatus when there was no conference championship game.

It was the first Big 12 championship game for the Wildcats since 2003. They won 35-7 over the then-No. 1 Sooners that year, who like TCU on Saturday went into that title game undefeated.

“I'm fortunate to be here. Gene Taylor took a chance on an FCS coach when not a lot of people would. But he believed in me and us,” Klieman said. “And coming here, I look at these guys that believed in us as a coaching staff when there was a coaching change and stuck with us.”

Klieman had worked under Taylor, the Kansas State athletic director, at North Dakota State.

After blowing an 11-point lead in the final 7 1/2 minutes of regulation, the Wildcats got the ball in overtime after&nbsp;<a href="https://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=35173151">stopping TCU running back Kendre Miller twice from inside the 1</a>, the second on fourth down when the Horned Frogs opted against a field goal try in overtime.

“That was just great execution, just overall, by the defense,” said linebacker Daniel Green, who was in on the fourth-down stop. “That's a statement right there. We always say the mob, mob mentality. It don't get no better than that, on the goal line for the game, almost.”

Six weeks earlier, the Wildcats jumped out to a 28-10 lead early in the second quarter at TCU before the Horned Frogs (12-1, No. 3 CFP) scored the game's last 28 points.

That was Howard's first action of the season, coming in after transfer dual-threat quarterback Adrian Martinez got banged up on the first series. Martinez got hurt again at Baylor, and Howard has now started the last three games.

Kansas State has won its last four games, and five of six, since that 38-28 loss at TCU on Oct. 22.

“Like coach said, it started in January, this team coming together and believing in each other,” Green said. “And belief is what won us this game. We came into this game knowing it was going to be a dogfight and we were going to have to earn it. But not one second of that game we didn't believe.”

🏈 Overtime field goal lifts K-State to win over TCU in Big 12 title game

came up short against Manhattan in their finals games of the 40th annual
Hays City Shootout Saturday at Hays Middle School.

GIRLS: Manhattan 48, TMP 33 The Manhattan Indians used the three-point shot to build an
early lead and then held off a second-half TMP run as they knock off the Monarchs
48-33 in the seventh-place game.

Manhattan opened the game on a pair 5-0 runs to take a 10-4
lead. But the Monarchs finished the first quarter on a 5-0 run of their own capped
off with three straight points from Graycen Shippers who finished with a career-high
10 points.

Manhattan hit a three pointer at the end of the first
quarter for a 13-9 lead. 

A Jaci VonLintel field goal brought TMP within two at 13-11
but Manhattan answered with an 8-2 run for a 21-13 lead.

The Indians extended their lead to seven at halftime at 24-17.

In the third quarter TMP was able to close the gap as they
outscored Manhattan 11-6.

But the Indians finished the third quarter and opened the
fourth on an 12-2 run to take a 42-30 lead and they pulled away for the 48-35
victory.

Jaci VonLintel led the Monarchs with 13 points and Graycen
Shippers added 10 points.

BOYS: Manhattan 53, TMP 39 The Manhattan boys used a 16-2 first-half run and held off
TMP for a 53-39 win in the boys fourth-place game of the Hays City Shootout Saturday.

Griffin Schumacher gave TMP an early 3-0 lead with a
three-pointer and then Luke Rome and Dylan Werth combined to scored 12 first
quarter points as the Monarchs built a 15-12 lead at the end of one.

Manhattan answered with a 16-2 run to open the second
quarter to build a double-figure lead. 

Down 11, at 28-17 the Monarchs closed within two on a 9-2
run capped off by five straight from Kade Harris.

But a three-pointer at the end of the half put Manhattan up
33-28. 

The Indians then outscored TMP 10-4 in the third quarter and
led by 14 early in the fourth quarter on their way to a 53-39 win.

Luke Rome led the way with a career-high 14 points and Dylan
Werth added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The TMP boys and girls travel to Hill City for the
Mid-Continent League opener next Friday.

HAYS - The Fort Hays State women's basketball team had three players score in double-figures and never trailed in an 84-42 win over Rogers State Saturday afternoon at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers have won three-straight and improved to 6-3 and 2-0 in the MIAA.

Olivia Hollenbeck scored seven of her team-high 18 points in the first quarter, helping the Tigers to an 18-10 lead. FHSU outscored the Hilllcats (2-6, 0-2 MIAA) in the second quarter for a 42-20 halftime lead. The Tiger defense limited the Hillcats to one made field goal over the first eight-plus minutes of the quarter, outscoring them 22-4 over that span.

After hitting just one 3-pointer over the first 27 minutes of the game, they finished hitting five in the fourth quarter. Emma Ruddle knocked in their first late in the third, Jessie Sallach knocked down the first in her career midway through the fourth then Megan Earney hit four in a row over a two-minute span which pushed the Tigers lead to 40.

Joining Hollenbeck in double-figures was Katie Wagner with 17 points and Megan Earney with 12. Sallach was right behind with nine. The Tigers dominated on the glass for a second-consecutive game, outrebounding the Hillcats by 19. FHSU grabbed a season-high 19 offensive rebounds, its most in a conference contest in more than two years. The Tigers scored a season-high 25 points off the 21 RSU turnovers.

UP NEXT Fort Hays State will hit the road next weekend for the first time four weeks when the Tigers battle Missouri Western on Saturday (Dec. 10, 1:30 p.m.) in a rematch of the 2022 NCAA Division II Central Region Championship game. The Tigers will then make the short drive up Highway 71 to Maryville, Mo. to take on Northwest Missouri State on Sunday (Dec. 11, 1:30 p.m.).
