KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Fort Hays State men's soccer team traveled to Kansas City on Sunday to face off against the Rockhurst Hawks. The Tigers came up short by a score of 2-1, scoring their lone tally on a late goal.
Rockhurst scored quick with Tomasso Tirabassi putting the ball in the net off an assist by Sam McIntosh in the ninth minute. The Tigers were able to get looks during the first half with nine shots, four being on goal. The Tigers possessed the ball most of the first half with six corners to the Hawks' two.
Out of the half, the Tigers looked extremely aggressive, taking three shots in the first five minutes. As the half progressed, the Tigers continued to play with pace and were able to get decent looks. In the 85th minute, the aggressiveness of the Tigers opened up a scoring opportunity for the Hawks, and Daniele Bizzarri took full advantage scoring a goal assisted by Tirabassi.
With 40 seconds to go, Oliver Larsen was able to put one through from a cross by Mika Leue. It was too little, too late for the Tigers, but they ended up out shooting Rockhurst 17-8, seven on goal to the Hawks' three. The match was fairly physical with three cards and 21 fouls throughout the match.
The Tigers are at home for their next match when they face Midwestern State on Wednesday, September 13th at 5:00 p.m. The Mustangs come into the match 3-0-1, while the Tigers are 1-3-0.
