HAYS - The High High girls cross country team won their first meet on the new Rolling Ridge course Thursday morning. The Indians placed six in the top-10 and won the large class race by 24 points over Garden City.
The meet was the first on the new Rolling Ridge course located off the highway 183 bypass near Enersys. The course was developed by Fort Hays State cross country coach Jason McCullough after the Sand Plum course near Victoria was no longer available.
Arely Maldonado was individual champ setting a new school 5K record with a time of 19:00.3. Brynn Kinderknecht finished fourth (21:13.4), Brenlynn Albers fifth (21:46.8), Julia Zadina sixth (21:51.3), Mika Zimmerman eighth (22:11.6) and Cara Cunningham 10th (22:26.5).
The HHS boys placed third. They were led by Elijah McCullough who finished third with a time of 16:38.4. Taevin Maupin placed seventh (17:33.8).
