William Rodney (Rod) Borger was born June 18, 1938, on a farm southwest of Ness City, Kansas. He was the son of William and Lois Borger. He passed from this world on June 21, 2024, at the age of 86 years and 3 days in Cedar Village Care Center, Ness City.

Rod married Karen R. Showalter July 25, 1959. &nbsp;To this union were born Todd Allen and Tracee Ann Borger.

Rod attended grade school and high school in Ness City. He graduated from High School in 1956. After high school he began his apprenticeship in the carpentry and building profession. He progressed to become a highly regarded and sought after builder and craftsman. Many houses and interiors attest to his skills. Along with his profession as a builder, his upbringing as a farmer's son was utilized in his middle years.

Rod was a trustworthy and humble man, who was highly respected by the community. &nbsp;He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus.&nbsp;

Rod really enjoyed his early morning coffee with his buddies at CO-OP. They would discuss the world problems and how to fix them. The next day they would do it all over again. &nbsp;He also loved a good dance and his days at the lake with a crowd of friends.&nbsp;

Rod is proceeded in death by his parents, his sisters Marjorie, Nathalie and Joanne. He will be missed by his sister Shelby Seib, brother Tim Borger, and their families.

Rod is survived by his loving wife Karen, his son Todd, and spouse Teresa, daughter Tracee, grandchildren Joshua Edler and spouse Ashley, Garrett, Dawson and his great grandchildren Cora Edler and Marin Edler.

&nbsp;Rod will be missed by many friends, family and all who knew him.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Church on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.&nbsp; Rosary followed by a Parish Vigil will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Memorial Contributions may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Luella ‘Elaine’ McCaslin, age 94, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Greeley County long-term care facility in Tribune, Kansas.&nbsp;

Elaine was born on October 12, 1929, in Hays, Kansas to Joseph Hayes and Luella Elsie Petersilie McDonald. She was the oldest of 4 sisters

She grew up in Ness County, KS moving to Tribune, KS during her high school years.&nbsp;

During her lifetime she lived throughout Kansas and in Colorado Springs, CO. Returning to Tribune, KS in 2019.

On June 15th, 1949, Elaine married Truman L. McCaslin in Tribune, Kansas. Enjoying a long partnership of almost 58 years. Truman passed away in 2007. She will be laid to rest next to him in the Greeley Co Cemetery.&nbsp;

She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters, and extended family.

Daughter Trudy and her husband Rodney Timm of Morrisville, NC

Son Theron McCaslin of Saint Francis, KS&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Theryl McCaslin, and sister Nadine Cheney.

During her life she had fulfilling careers as a Walmart Associate for over 20 years, School bus driver, wife, mother, and so much more to the people who knew and loved her. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the United Methodist Church and scout leader.&nbsp;

Public visitation will be on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from 10:00 am-11:00 am, at the Price and Sons Funeral Home, 322 2nd St. Tribune, Kansas.

She loved quilting and spending time with her family. She will be missed by all.&nbsp;

Hunt, age 58, passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Scott County Hospital in Scott City, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on October 19, 1965, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Bertys Eugene and Pearl Jeanette Sadler Hunt. &nbsp;A lifetime resident of Wichita County, Kansas, he was a farmer and rancher in both Wichita County and Scott County, Kansas.

Bart graduated from Wichita County High School in 1984, attended Colby Community College, and Graduated from Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kansas. &nbsp;He loved his horses, cattle, and many pets. &nbsp;In his early days, Bart was involved in 4-H and later served as 4-H leader, and was involved in wrestling in Jr. High and High School. &nbsp;He later started coaching Kids Wrestling and became a certified referee.

He was a people person and was the best storyteller and never forgot an adventure by all who knew and loved him. &nbsp;He also loved music and dancing.

Survivors include his One Sister - Marsha &amp; Randy Heronemus of Leoti, Kansas, Two Brothers - Brett Hunt of Leoti, Kansas, Bill &amp; Gail Hunt of Marienthal, Kansas, Two Step Sons - Josh &amp; Bill John, One Grandson - Cade John, Four Nieces &amp; Nephews - Scott Heronemus, Michelle Shiffelbein, Rachelle Bennett, Bailey Hunt, and 8 Great Nieces and Nephews.

&nbsp; Dr. Virginia Kamantigue Periola-Patriarca, age 68, of Hays, Kansas peacefully passed away at her home in Hays, Kansas on June 20, 2024. Surrounded by her beloved husband and family.&nbsp;Virginia was born on August 4, 1955 in Angeles City, Philippines, the cherished eldest child of Carlos Periola, a US Army Veteran, and Isabel Kamantigue.

She pursued her undergraduate studies and obtained her medical degree from University of Santo Tomas before immigrating to the United States in 1984. Virginia began her career at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York.

In New York City, she met John Patriarca, whom she married on June 15, 1990 and with whom she just celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.

Their journey led them to the serene town of Presque Isle, Maine, where they resided for 5 years, allowing Virginia to dedicate herself to Aroostook Medical Center. An avid dog lover, it was during this time that John and Virginia welcomed their first furry family member, Smokey (a German Shepherd), into their home. He was soon joined by Honey Bear, a Golden Retriever, followed by Jordan, a Yellow Lab, and Dixie, a Boxer. Currently, they share their home with Duke, a spirited Husky-Shepherd mix.

Driven by her unwavering passion for healthcare, Virginia and John relocated to Hays, Kansas in 1995, where she initially joined the former inpatient unit at Hadley Hospital. Affectionately known as "Dr. P," she dedicated 25 years of her career to serving Northwest Kansas, primarily focusing on adults with severe mental illness. In September 2020, Dr. P retired as the esteemed Medical Director of High Plains Mental Health Center.

Initially planning a brief stay of less than 5 years, John and Virginia found themselves captivated by Hays' unhurried lifestyle and the warmth of its community, which ultimately kept them rooted there far longer.

Despite overcoming uterine cancer earlier, Virginia faced a diagnosis of Stage 3 Breast Cancer in April 2024 and a subsequent discovery of a brain tumor. Although she bravely underwent successful brain surgery on May 24, 2024, her health declined thereafter.

She is survived by her devoted husband John; step-son, John-Paul and his wife Antoinette, their children Julianne and Jhennyn; her brothers, Irwin and Rommel; her sisters-in-law, Victoria and Agnes; and her cherished nieces and nephews, Jhandy, Jehan, Jiliane, Matthew, Marttin, Janile, Jarryd, Nicolle, Nerissa, Jonathan, Jhena, Justin, and Benjamin.

At Virginia's request, please honor her vibrant spirit by wearing bright colors to her funeral services instead of black.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hays. A reception&nbsp;will follow services starting at 11:30 AM at Smoky Hill Country Club.

Virginia Kamantigue Periola-Patriarca

Kenneth J. Pfannenstiel, age 84, of Munjor, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Via Christi Village in Hays. Kenneth was born on October 19, 1939, in Munjor to Ted J. and Pauline (Wittman) Pfannenstiel.

He graduated from Hays High School in 1957 and married Ann Kohl in 1965 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas. Kenneth dedicated 35 years to his work with Orkin Exterminating. In 1973, he carried forth the Pfannenstiel legacy of farming with his family, which continued through his retirement.&nbsp;

Kenneth had a deep love for German polka music and played the tenor saxophone in his father's dance band, The Jolly Mixers for more than 30 years. He also served in the Kansas National Guard for many years and worked full time for them for four years.&nbsp;

Kenneth is survived by his wife of near 60 years, Ann; his son, Brian Pfannenstiel of Munjor; his daughter, Lisa Pfannenstiel-Garrison, and her husband Jim of Auburn, Kansas; his four grandchildren, Luke Garrison of Overland Park, Kansas; Blake Garrison of Austin, Texas, Kenna Spencer and her husband Blake, and their son Beau of Hays; Brianna Pfannenstiel-Foiles and Tyler Foiles and their daughter McKinnley of Aurora, Colorado; two brothers, Gordon Pfannenstiel, and his wife Lynn of Russell, Kansas; and Tom Pfannenstiel of Kansas City, Missouri; and a sister, Annette Pfannenstiel-Brhel of South Plymouth, New York.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Pauline, and his brother, Mel Pfannenstiel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Munjor. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.&nbsp;

Memorial visitation will be on Friday from 9:00 AM until the service time, with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 10:00 AM.

He also served in the Kansas National Guard for many years and worked full time for them for four years.&nbsp;Kenneth is survived by his wife of near 60 years, Ann; his son, Brian Pfannenstiel of Munjor; his daughter, Lisa Pfannenstiel-Garrison, and her husband Jim of Auburn, Kansas; his four grandchildren, Luke Garrison of Overland Park, Kansas; Blake Garrison of Austin, Texas, Kenna Spencer and her husband Blake, and their son Beau of Hays; Brianna Pfannenstiel-Foiles and Tyler Foiles and their daughter McKinnley of Aurora, Colorado; two brothers, Gordon Pfannenstiel, and his wife Lynn of Russell, Kansas; and Tom Pfannenstiel of Kansas City, Missouri; and a sister, Annette Pfannenstiel-Brhel of South Plymouth, New York.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Pauline, and his brother, Mel Pfannenstiel.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 28, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Munjor. Darlene M. Rucker, 90, passed away June 23, 2024 at Country Living of Larned.

She was born December 10, 1933 in Dodge City, the daughter of Carl William and Elsie M. Dovel Danford.

A lifetime area resident she was a bank teller at Burdett State Bank and owner and bookkeeper at Rucker Brothers Flying Service. She was a member of Valley Community Church (formerly Burdett United Methodist Church), Kansas Agricultural Aviation Association (KAAA), Women of KAAA, Burdett American Legion Auxiliary, and Burdett Seniors. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, games and puzzles, playing the organ, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.

On January 24, 1954 she married Billy B. Rucker at Burdett; he preceded her in death on January 4, 2001.

Survivors include: son, Cary (Jayne) Rucker, Burdett; daughter, Myra (Tom) Conti, Reno, Nevada; four grandchildren, Jessica (Steve) Lumetta, Prairie Village, Kansas, Trisha (Mike) Buchli, Lincoln, Nebraska, Eryn Conti, Kalispell, Montana, Lisa (Ben) Phillipps, Curtin, Australia; six great grandchildren, Piper, Penelope, Sophie, Caprice, William, and Dashiell.

Patricia A. Graves, age 79, formally of Goodland passed away at The Legacy of Herington, Kansas.&nbsp;

Pat was born March 31, 1945 to Herman and Betty (Hensel) Renkema in Forreston, Illinois. She grew up and went to school in Forreston. Pat attended Dodge City Community College and graduated with her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. On July 24, 1972 she married J. Darel Graves at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland.&nbsp;

Pat worked as a nurse at Goodland Regional Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed caring and taking care of people and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her son Robert (Donna) of Herington, KS, daughters Rita Engling of Ottawa, KS and Robin (Geoff) Kuhn of Hays, KS; granddaughter Cricket Schmidt and grandson Jason Kuhn; and many more family and friends.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Darel, and sister Gene Henry.

Joseph Wayne Mudloff was born in Loup City, NE on May 22, 1940 to Peter Paul, Sr. and Bernadine (Lukasiewicz) Mudloff.&nbsp; He began his education in Wolbach, NE, finishing his elementary schooling at St. Anthony’s Parochial School and graduating from Farwell High in 1957.&nbsp; He worked on farms in the Farwell area and then around Loup city until moving to Grand Island and began working for Hested’s 5 &amp; 10.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Helen Nealon in Grand Island on May 24, 1961.&nbsp; To this union three daughters were born, Valarie, Victoria and Cindy.&nbsp; In 1962, the family moved back to Grand Island from Buffalo, WY and Joe went to work for Allen’s Self Service Drug.&nbsp; In 1970, they moved to Hays, KS and he managed a discount store for Giant Value, which changed to Gibson’s the following year.&nbsp; In 1972, they moved to Fulton, MO and he worked for Carp’s Super Store.&nbsp; When the store closed, he managed a Ben Franklin store in Leawood, KS until 1976 when they moved back to Hays.&nbsp; He then worked for Heartland Building Center, managing the hardware department.&nbsp; Helen died in 1989.&nbsp; He married Shirlee Mader Bjorkman on December 29, 1990. They moved back to Grand Island to care for his mother and began working for Wanek Pharmacy.&nbsp; In 2000, he started working for Sears and retired in 2002.&nbsp; In 2003, he went to work for Ben’s Pharmacy and Midwest LTC Pharmacy when it was sold.&nbsp; He worked there until 2013.

Joe enjoyed woodworking, especially building furniture and cabinets.&nbsp; He also enjoyed golf, fishing and cooking, especially gourmet food.

He is survived by his wife, Shirlee; daughters, Valarie Jane (Keith) Goetz of Hays, KS and Victoria (David) Purvis of Shawnee, KS; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four step-children; seven step-grandchildren and one great step-grandchild.&nbsp; Also surviving him are sisters, Sandra Laskowski of Coon Rapids, MN and Rojeanne Hoes of Grand Island; brothers, Paul Mudloff of Johnstown, CO and Tim (Tricia) Mudloff of Andover, KS and brother-in-law, Gary Meyer of Deshler, NE.

Rose Marie Arnhold was born on June 2, 1941 to Ruth (Eck) and Alfred Petracek in Denver, Colorado and passed away on June 18, 2024 in Lafayette, Colorado. She resided in Hays, Kansas the majority of her life. She was raised in Jennings, Kansas and graduated from Jennings High School. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Sociology from Fort Hays State University (FHSU). She taught in the public school system at Hays High School for five years before accepting a position at Fort Hays State University. She taught at FHSU from 1969-2017 and served as Chair of Sociology Programs and Social Work from 1994-2008. Her areas of focus included gender, family, aging, death and dying and majority/minority studies. Rose’s passion was teaching and she received numerous awards for her performance in the classroom. She was among the first to receive the Pilot Award for outstanding teaching at FHSU, she was one of six university professors to teach in the first Regents Honor Academy in 1987 and she was recognized as Kansas Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education in 1988. In 2003 she was honored with the Alumni Achievement Award at Fort Hays State University.&nbsp;

In June of 1961 she married Gerald (Jerry) Arnhold and their daughter Cheryl was born in 1963. Cheryl became and remained the focus of their lives. Rose was a beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter, grand-mother, great grand-mother and friend. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Petracek, father, Alfred Petracek, husband, Gerald Arnhold, sisters, Ruth Chance and Dorothy Webster, brothers, Raymond Kraft and Herb Petracek. She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Johnson (friend Richard Harris), three grandchildren, Jacqueline Rose Johnson (friend Pat Wynne), Jason Johnson (Gabi Ketzenbarger), Justine (Keegan) Begley, and two great grandchildren, Isaac and Isla Begley. Rose loved spending time with her family and friends. She valued and nurtured all of her relationships.&nbsp;

Deeply spiritual, Rose sought to better understand the connection between the human condition and our place within the universe. She placed great importance on community involvement and her impact was immeasurable. She was especially proud of her efforts which culminated in the establishment of the Northwest Kansas Family Shelter, The Rape Crisis Center and Hospice of the Plains. She was the first professor to serve as the faculty sponsor for the FHSU LGBTQ student organization in 1992. She was ahead of her time in support of many causes including women’s rights. She was an author of publications and books and provided in-service training for law enforcement, teachers, nurses, court officers and conducted many support groups.&nbsp;&nbsp;She was a member of the Hays Humane Society board for many years and being an animal lover she always had a furry friend at her side. Her dog, Happy, was cuddled up next to her when she peacefully passed away.&nbsp;

With her passing, the world lost a luminous presence. She touched countless lives and has been described as influential, a guiding force, impactful, an advocate, one in a million, a mentor, inspirational, courageous, a role model, a saint and a sage. With a kind heart she made a such difference during the time of her dash 1941-2024. She will be profoundly missed.&nbsp;&nbsp;How fortunate we all were to know and love her.&nbsp;

Rose Marie Arnhold 

John Rabun Fletcher, 59, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at his home.

John was born July 4, 1964 in Amarillo, Texas.&nbsp; He was one of three children born to Dick and Betty (Rabun) Fletcher.&nbsp; He grew up in Goodland, Kansas, and graduated from Goodland High School in the Class of ’82.

John was united in marriage to Heather Werner on June 11, 2004 in Russell.&nbsp; They made their home in Russell.

John served the citizens of Russell County as a civil servant for forty years, most recently as the former Russell County Administrator from 2013 to 2024, until his retirement on March 1.&nbsp; Before that he was the Governor Selection to be the Russell County Sheriff in 1999, and then was re-elected as Sheriff until his retirement in 2015.&nbsp; Prior to serving as the Sheriff, John worked as an EMT and Jailer for Russell County and later was a patrolman for the City of Russell in 1988 until his appointment as Sheriff.&nbsp; In 2008, he graduated from the FBI National Academy Program, Quantico, Virginia.&nbsp; John was past president of the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association and after his retirement as Sheriff, he served as the Deputy Director of the Kansas Sheriffs’ Association until his death.

He was a member and past ruler of the Russell Elks Lodge, Kiwanis Club of Russell, the Economic Development Board, past member of the Russell City Fire Department and served eight years on the USD Board of Education.

John enjoyed doing yardwork (no joke!), he took great pride in maintaining his yard, and could often be seen mowing in “road gear”.&nbsp; In his spare time, he enjoyed trips to the casino, playing golf, shooting, and cheering on his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Texas Tech University and Kansas State University.

John had a gift in his ability to make those around him feel safe.&nbsp; He was kind, reliable, and the voice of reason.&nbsp; The calm during the storm, and a pillar of strength to many in their times of darkness.&nbsp; He was a great listener, and could be a man of few words, but he was also lighthearted, enjoyed a good joke, and had a great laugh.&nbsp;

David Levi Weltmer, of Plainville, Kansas, passed away on May 10, 2024, at the age of 72. He was born on July 3, 1951, to Robert and Eunice (Lewis) Weltmer in Smith Center, Kansas. He married Deb Hugley on February 4, 1978 in Plainville, KS.

David grew up in Smith Center, KS and graduated from Stockton High School in 1969. He then went on to attend and graduate from Mid-America Nazarene University and became a minister. He spent the next 12 years of his life as a minister for the Nazarene church at various locations. He worked a few other jobs and retired at the age of 52. He enjoyed the mountains, reading and watching westerns.

David is survived by his sons, Ryan (Sarah) Weltmer, Plainville, Scott Weltmer, McPherson, KS; Derek Weltmer, Texas, Jeff Weltmer, Salina, KS; five grandchildren, Joelle, Rylan, DJ, Dylon, and Britney. Sister, Patty (David) Bear, Rural Osborne county; brother, Dan (Pam) Weltmer, Plainville and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, uncles and aunts.

Carol Alice Clarke, 90, died June 21, 2024, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born October 10, 1933, in Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Ray and Faye (Chenoweth) Humphrey. &nbsp;She attended schools in Hoisington and Jetmore, Kansas.

On July 22, 1950, she married Joseph Alanson “Joe” Clarke, Sr. in Jetmore, Kansas. &nbsp;He preceded her in death on February 8, 2015.&nbsp;

Carol worked for Suburban Laundry/Apparelmaster and later for Duckwall’s, retiring in 1996. She enjoyed gardening and traveling on their Goldwing. In later years, she enjoyed attending her grandkids and great grandkids activities. Carol was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hoisington, and the American Motorcycle Association. &nbsp;

She is survived by two daughters, Alice Clarke of Barnwell, South Carolina, and Mary Brewer of Muncie, Indiana; four grandchildren, Trey (Joanna) Wagnon of Barnwell, South Carolina, Ben (Krista) Brewer of Hoisington, Wyatt (Jenelle) Brewer of Muncie, Indiana, and Megan (Jake) Brown of Yukon, Oklahoma; and nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Faye Humphrey, stepmother, Lenora Humphrey, husband, Joe Clarke, son, Joseph A. Clarke, Jr., daughter, Iris Clarke, brothers, Donald Humphrey, Robert Humphrey, Kenneth Humphrey; stepsister, Becky Maier and stepbrothers, Fritz Charles, Jim Charles, and R.L. Charles.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Janice I. Dickinson, 86, of rural Gorham, Kansas, died on June 20, 2024, at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.

Janice was born on July 23, 1937, in Manhattan, Kansas, the daughter of James Frank and Buleau (Silkman) Miller. She grew up in Manhattan, Kansas, and graduated from Manhattan High School in the class of 1956. She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Robert Louis Dickinson on October 21, 1956, in Manhattan. From this union Janice and Robert were blessed with 4 children, Kirk, Sheryl, Valerie and Cathy. She worked with her husband on the family farm and as a homemaker raising their growing family. She also worked for many years as a paraprofessional educator with the Hays School District USD #489 in Hays, Kansas.

She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hays and was a former 4-H leader. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, teaching Sunday school at church, working with 4-H and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her four children, Robert Kirk Dickinson and wife Coleen of Gorham, Kansas, Sheryl Wambold and husband Bill of Wasco, Oregon, Valerie Kostelansky and husband Bruce of Ft. Maclead, Canada and Cathy Musick and husband Doug of Lawrence, Kansas; sister Lea Piper of New Mexico; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert on September 15, 2010, sister Jean DeLong and brother Durry Robbins

Dorothy Joanne Rymph, age 95, of Hays, Kansas passed away peacefully Friday, June 21, 2024, at Homestead Assisted Living of Hays.

Joanne was born March 22, 1929, in Kansas City Missouri to Dr. Roy and Marguerite (Burger) Coffey.&nbsp; Dr. Coffey was an orthopedic surgeon at St. Anthony's Hays.&nbsp; She married William H. Rymph on July 20, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Hays, Kansas.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on September 19, 1997.

Joanne grew up in Hays, was a graduate of Hays High School and was the first Hays High Homecoming Queen.&nbsp; She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 70 years making her the longest member of the church.&nbsp; She also sang in the church choir.&nbsp; Her other memberships included PEO and the Smokey Hill Country Club.

Joanne's parents built and operated the El Charro Restaurant and Motel on east Highway 40 in Hays where young Joanne assisted her mother with the daily operations.&nbsp; Joanne and her husband Bill later became owner/operators of the El Charro Convenience Store and apartments.&nbsp; She received her Bachelor's Degree in education from Fort Hays State University and was a teacher over the years in Hays elementary, junior high and high school.&nbsp; Retiring in 2000, Joanne lived in her home until moving to Homestead Assisted Living six years ago.&nbsp;&nbsp;Over the years she enjoyed playing piano, golfing, sewing, playing bridge and bingo and was always an avid reader.

Joanne is survived by her children, William C. Rymph and wife Susan, Ellis, KS; Terry Lynne Tedesco, Tucson, AZ; her grandchildren, Kristi Tedesco, Kurt Tedesco, Ryan Woods, Troy Rymph and wife, Savannah; and her five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Roy and Marguerite; her husband, William H.; and her granddaughter, Kim Tedesco.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m.. Dorothy Joanne Rymph

Lowell Robert Johannes, 81, Hays, died Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at HaysMed after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born April 16, 1943 in Salina, the son of Francis Lawrence and Agnes (Breer) Johannes.&nbsp; Lowell was the youngest of five boys by 13 years.&nbsp; He graduated from Salina High School in 1961 and earned a Master’s Degree in Industrial Arts from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; While attending Fort Hays State he met the love of his life, Janet Faye Gregg.&nbsp; Lowell and Janet were united in marriage on August 20, 1966, and their prayers were answered when they were blessed with two sons, Jason and Travis.&nbsp;

Lowell taught at several schools throughout Kansas and shared his passion for math and woodworking with others.&nbsp; He loved to fish, create wood projects for his family, and supervise renovations done by his son Travis.&nbsp; His other hobbies included going to garage sales with his brother-in-law Eldon Gregg, collecting clocks, and working on old cars.&nbsp; Lowell’s greatest joy was his family, a sentiment he was sure to let everyone know.&nbsp; His family will miss him dearly, but will find comfort in all the memories Lowell made sure to make with them.

Survivors include his wife Janet of Hays, two sons, Jason Johannes and wife Sarah and Travis Johannes and wife Katelyn, all of Hays, a brother-in-law, Eldon Gregg of Hays, a sister-in-law, Jeannie Johannes of Salina, four grandchildren, Eryn Mazour and husband Darrick, Kelsey, Evelyn, and Lydia Johannes, two step-grandchildren, Maleena and Janell Carlyle, two great grandchildren, Bailey Mazour and Silas Johannes, twin great grandsons, Wesley and Wyatt Mazour, due any day, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Gerald, Gene, Ron, and Vern Johannes, and two sisters-in-law, Carol Gregg and Glori Ann Johannes.

 </figure>Lowell Robert Johannes, 81, Hays, died Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at HaysMed after a courageous battle with cancer.He was born April 16, 1943 in Salina, the son of Francis Lawrence and Agnes (Breer) Johannes.&nbsp; Lowell was the youngest of five boys by 13 years.&nbsp; He graduated from Salina High School in 1961 and earned a Master’s Degree in Industrial Arts from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; While attending Fort Hays State he met the love of his life, Janet Faye Gregg.&nbsp; Lowell and Janet were united in marriage on August 20, 1966, and their prayers were answered when they were blessed with two sons, Jason and Travis.&nbsp;Lowell taught at several schools throughout Kansas and shared his passion for math and woodworking with others.&nbsp; He loved to fish, create wood projects for his family, and supervise renovations done by his son Travis.&nbsp; His other hobbies included going to garage sales with his brother-in-law Eldon Gregg, collecting clocks, and working on old cars.&nbsp; Lowell’s greatest joy was his family, a sentiment he was sure to let everyone know.&nbsp; His family will miss him dearly, but will find comfort in all the memories Lowell made sure to make with them.Survivors include his wife Janet of Hays, two sons, Jason Johannes and wife Sarah and Travis Johannes and wife Katelyn, all of Hays, a brother-in-law, Eldon Gregg of Hays, a sister-in-law, Jeannie Johannes of Salina, four grandchildren, Eryn Mazour and husband Darrick, Kelsey, Evelyn, and Lydia Johannes, two step-grandchildren, Maleena and Janell Carlyle, two great grandchildren, Bailey Mazour and Silas Johannes, twin great grandsons, Wesley and Wyatt Mazour, due any day, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Gerald, Gene, Ron, and Vern Johannes, and two sisters-in-law, Carol Gregg and Glori Ann Johannes.Graveside services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at St. Joseph Cemetery with Pastor Dustin Mulkey officiating.&nbsp; Memorials are suggested to the Cancer Council of Ellis County.&nbsp; Services are in the care of Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and condolences and memories of Lowell may be shared with his family at www.haysmemorial.com

Richard Charles Campbell, age 93, died March 2, 2023, in Westminster, Colorado. He was born December 23, 1929, the son of Herbert and Lola (Hague) Campbell.

Richard farmed in Big Bow, Kansas, for over 50 years. Moving to Thornton, Colorado, after retiring. He passed on quickly and quietly after having a very good week and day of joking with his caregivers at Sunrise of Westminster, Colorado. He is missed and will always be missed by those that he gave so much to.

Preceded in death by his brothers, Herb Jr., Howard, and James Campbell; and his beloved wife Betty Jean (Eyman) Campbell.

He is the father of four, Michael, Ron, Tony Campbell and Patrick Barnes; Grandpa to ten, Great-Grandpa to ten and Great-Great-Grandpa to four.

Memorial graveside service will be Saturday, June 29, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson with Pastor Steve Swann, Jr. officiating. Kenneth Groomer, age 59, died Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at his home in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born January 24, 1965, in Lamar, Colorado. The 6th child of William Ralph and Roberta Louise (Basye) Groomer, he grew up in Lamar.

Ken moved to Ulysses in 1988 and worked for Perry’s Tire &amp; Supply until he began his career with Kroy Industries in 1989. He convinced Barbara (Wainman) Anderson to move to Ulysses and married her on May 22, 1989. He became a member of Grant County Fire Department in 1999 and joined Grant County EMS in 2014. Public service became his new love, but he also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and collecting HO trains, guns and knives. Other than EMS, his favorite job was the year he spent with the boys at Murphy Tractor in yard maintenance.

He is survived by his wife, Barb; two sons, Tyrel Anderson of Corsicana, Texas, and Zachery Groomer of Lincoln, Nebraska; as well as two daughters, Rachael Rainey and husband, Chanc, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Savannah (Annie) Nacke and husband, Austin, of Lincoln, Nebraska. He will be missed by his siblings, Debra Shankle of Lexington, Oklahoma, Mary Campbell of Ulysses, William Groomer of Lamar, Colorado, Lisa Theye and husband, Dale, of Garden City, Kansas, and Wendi Hampton and husband, Nick, of Ulysses; four grandchildren; and many friends and family members.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, David Shankle, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on his favorite holiday, July 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Grant County EMS in Ulysses. Walter Jay Shaver, better known to all as "Ike." At the age of 91, Ike passed away peacefully, with his wife by his side on June 7th, 2024, in Larned Kansas.

He was born on July 12th, 1932, in Belpre Kansas, to David and Clara Shaver. Out of all his 11 siblings and other family members, Ike has lived the longest and he has succeeded all of them.

Ike was a proud resident of both Belpre and Larned Kansas. He played every sport in high school, but he loved track the most. Ike was known to be the greatest mile-runner in Belpre history. He was a 1950 graduate of Belpre High School. He joined the Army in 1953. Then in the Bluegoose Cafe he met a waitress whom he never ever tipped. That lady became his wife whom he married on August 17th, 1957 at the Larned Methodist church; her name is Judith Lorene Shaver. He worked as a business owner and plumber at his beloved creation, Ike Shaver Plumbing: the business has been running since 1962. He was a member of the Kansas Plumbing Association and the American Legion. Ike was known all throughout town as the consistent daily 3-mile walker; he walked in every weather imaginable. One of Ike's hobbies was gardening, and he would grow all plants to his liking and make enough for all of his family as well as all his neighbors/friends. His favorite plant to grow was tomatoes. When Ike would deliver the vegetables, he would leave them at the doorstep, ring the doorbell, and walk away without wanting to be thanked. He wanted his whole lawn to be a garden, but much to his dismay his wife told him "Whoa!" Ike was very stubborn, work-oriented, and a true jokester. His family and business were his two biggest passions. But Ike did have a favorite hobby, which was being able to watch his family play sports. Also, his two favorite sports teams are the Chiefs and the Royals, and he never let anyone or anything stop him from watching his two favorite teams. Ike always had the ability to make anyone smile. Ike left behind his wife, Judy; his children, Larry, Rene', Jay, Jon, and all of their spouses; his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Additionally, Ike also left behind his beloved family jewel, his youngest grandchild, Clara Charlene Shaver, who he always called his "jewel." She was named after his mother because both Clara's share the same birthdate. Ike was a man of many words, but never wanted the attention on himself. He was humble, strong, and passionate; he might have had a grumpy expression from time to time, but he truly had a marshmallow heart, anyone could tell that from just talking to him.

Ike's cremation and private family burial, with military honors, have already taken place at Belpre Cemetery, Belpre, Kansas with Pastor David Spare presiding. If you wish to keep his memory alive, please grow a tomato plant in his honor.
