Lavesta Mae (Enslow) Binder

Lavesta Mae (Enslow) Binder, age 90, of Colby, Kansas, passed away on September 20,2024. She was born on July 26, 1934, in Lakin, Kansas. Lavesta was the youngest of six children born to Phil and Ruby (Wiatt) Enslow. Lavesta was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who took immense pride in her family.

Lavesta met the love of her life, Jim Binder, at the Kansas State Fair. She knew it was love at first sight. Jim and Lavesta were married October 9, 1955, and later made their permanent home in Colby KS. To this union five children were born, Roger Dale, Robert Allen, Ronald Wayne, Laura Ann and Lynette Marie. Jim and Lavesta were married 44 years before the Lord called Jim home.

Lavesta dedicated close to 50 years of her life to nursing. She earned her nursing diploma from Grace School of Nursing in Hutchinson, KS, in 1955 and worked at hospitals in Hutchinson, St. Thomas Hospital and Citizen's Medical Center in Colby. Lavesta's passion for caring for others was evident throughout her career.

Outside of her professional life, Lavesta had a variety of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly painting Santa Clauses, as well as sewing and quilting. Lavesta's creativity and talent shone through her artistic endeavors.

Lavesta was a devoted member of Colby United Methodist Church, where she found solace and community. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she found comfort in her religious community.

Lavesta was preceded in death by her husband Jim; her son Roger; granddaughter Rebecca; her parents, Phil and Ruby Enslow; brothers, Roy Enslow, Leonard Enslow, Leslie Enslow and Dallas Enslow and sister Twila Woods.

Lavesta is survived by and will be deeply missed, by her children, Robert (Cindy) Binder, Ron (Tera) Binder, Laura (Troy) Bosserman, and Lynette (Bo) Downs and daughter-in-law Robin Binder. She was a cherished grandmother/great grandmother to Kally Binder, Anna (Adam) McAsey and children Aiden and Adelyn, Eric Binder and JJ Schutz, Donnie Binder, Heather Binder and children Jaxsyn and Connor, Shelly Binder, Wiatt (Margret) Binder and children Finn and Rose, Jonathan (Nastasja) Bosserman and daughter Hattie, Tom (Rianon) Franklin and children Bruce and Maverick, Kathe Franklin (Chris Puentes) and children Sophia and Rey, Malea (William) Barrett and children Mason, Rosaleigh, Christian and Thomas. Lavesta leaves behind sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lavesta's legacy of love, care, and devotion to her family and her profession will forever be cherished. She leaves behind a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Colby. The funeral is at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Colby United Methodist Church with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby.
