Neal Raymond Schmidtberger, 70, of Hutchinson, died June 28, 2024, at his home, with his family by his side. He was born May 30, 1954, in Hays, to Alvin R. and Martina R. (Dreher) Schmidtberger of Victoria.

Neal graduated from Victoria High School in 1972. He worked for more than 40 years as a grocery manager, starting with Safeway and then for Dillons, working in all 5 Hutchinson stores. Neal was an all-around handyman who loved doing for others. He loved playing the guitar and singing at various functions and even wrote some songs. Neal was also known for his whistling everywhere he went. He was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ, Lions Club of Russell, and volunteered on the Food Bank of Reno County board for 20 years.

On October 7, 1977, Neal married Patricia Ann Childs, in Hutchinson. She survives.

Also surviving are: his daughters, Audra Gray and husband Randall of Hutchinson, Jennifer Stringfellow and husband Russ of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Jordan and Yelmy Gray, Emily Winkler, Britney Winkler, Sophia Gray, all of Hutchinson, Ellissa and Dylan Becker of Kansas City, Trevor Stringfellow of Hutchinson; siblings, Galen Schmidtberger of Russell, Wayne and Patty Schmidtberger of California, Jim Schmidtberger of Russell, Joe and Debbie Schmidtberger of Lawrence, Brenda Yoder of Russell, Pam and Bill Gasper of Hays, Myra and Tom Meder of Pfeifer, Glenn and Elsa Schmidtberger of California; mother-in-law, Alice Childs of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law, David Childs of California, Galen and Cindy Childs of Abbyville, Craig and Carla Childs of Abbyville; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; father-in-law, Robert D. Childs; and brothers-in-law, Rocky Yoder and Mark Childs.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 5, 2024 at Eastwood Church of Christ, 2500 N. Plum St., Hutchinson. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, with the family present to receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary.

Arlene Caroline Yarmer, 86, passed away peacefully June 28, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kan. &nbsp;She was born January 6, 1938, in rural Hoisington, Kan., to John Edward and Antonia Marie (Langer) Stoss. &nbsp;Arlene married Vernon Adolph Yarmer May 22, 1956, in Olmitz, Kan. &nbsp;He died June 21, 2008.

Arlene, a longtime resident of Russell and Barton Counties, was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, St. Ann Altar Society, and the Sunflower Polka Club, teaching many friends and family members how to dance over the years. &nbsp;She was known as a hard worker who kept order on the farm, loved to cook, garden, embroider and in later years, travel. &nbsp;Above all, she was devoted to her family, being a stoic example of strength and independence.

Survivors include one son, Verlin Yarmer and wife Susanne of Russell; three daughters, Rhonda Glassman and husband John of Russell, Becky Cameron and husband Allen of Grant City, Mo., Rochelle Kuhn and husband Curtis of Victoria, Kan.; daughter in law, Valerie Yarmer of Russell; sister in law, Darlene Stoss of Hoisington; and 20 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren with one soon to arrive.

Arlene was preceded in death by son, Robert Yarmer; brother, Ed Stoss; and three sisters, Leona Reichuber, Evelyn Penka and Erma Schlochtermeier.

GAYLORD – Gerald Lawrence Caspers age 88 passed away on Thursday June 20, 2024 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital.

Gerald Lawrence Caspers was born on November 21, 1936 in rural Athol, Kansas. He and his siblings Robert, Phyllis and Karen never fought as their parents taught them to always be fair.

Gerald married Betty (Henning) Caspers on Nov, 11 1956 and that loving union has continued for 67 years. In his career as a master brick and stone mason, Gerald worked on churches, schools and hospitals all over the state of Kansas and Nebraska. He and his family returned to Gaylord in 1970 where he and Betty raised their three children. During that time he managed Gaylord Manufacturing, Inc and was very active in the community as a volunteer firefighter, member of the City Council and served on the Cemetery Board. Gerald enjoyed wood working, restoring old tools and having many wonderful times sharing God’s ministry in Gideon’s with his brother Robert.

Gerald is a most beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and cousin and his example was the cornerstone to his entire family and we look forward to seeing him again soon.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Steve Caspers (Julie); daughter, Sandy Lloyd (Dave); daughter Cheri George (Timothy). Grand children Jeremy Lloyd, Joshua Lloyd (Kelly), Tim George (Megan), Branden George (Shannon), Bradley George, Tucker George, Briana Rickabaugh (Cole) and Brogan Caspers (Chae) and 17 great grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Lawrence Caspers; His sister, Phyllis Pierce; nephew John Hilbrink; son –in-law Timothy George, Sr. and numerous other relatives and friends.

Linda Jean (Stackhouse) Wahlmeier, 81, of Jennings, KS passed away, June 26, 2024. Linda was born June 12, 1943, to Mary Lucille (White) Stackhouse and Walter Raymond Stackhouse in Alma, Nebraska. She graduated from Jennings High School in 1961. After which she completed her college freshman and sophomore years at Kansas State University.

Linda was united in the Sacrament of Marriage to Carl Wahlmeier at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Almelo, KS on January 2, 1963. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2023.

After their marriage, Linda paused her college studies to support Carl and start a family. After the birth of four boys, Linda began working at a flower shop in Norton, Kansas and eventually purchased the business. She eventually sold the flower shop (The Country Garden), worked as a used car saleswoman, and even ran the farm operation for a few years. Then, in 1982, she returned to college at Fort Hays State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.

Linda taught school for one year at Lenora, Kansas.

Then, she had the opportunity to take over the American Family Insurance Agency in Norton, Kansas. Linda had found her professional vocation. Her leadership and dedication expanded the agency's reach to Hill City and Oberlin, Kansas, retiring after two decades and earning a place in the American Family Insurance Hall of Fame.

Family was everything to Linda and Carl. They loved their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings, nieces, and nephews. There was always a gathering at the farm to either work on a project or celebrate an event. Linda was the quintessential matriarch, known for her unmatched culinary skills and the warmth of her hospitality. She somehow juggled work and home life and made it look easy. Her legendary cooking – especially her homemade rolls, chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, taco salad, and chicken and noodles – remains a cherished memory among her family.

Linda’s greatest accomplishment was nurturing her four boys into responsible men who never wanted to disappoint her. She found a way to be loving, supportive, and firm. She had high expectations, and her sons became very familiar with the wooden spoon she carried in her purse. She once caught them tossing potatoes down the aisle in her father’s grocery store. From that day forward, her sons had to put their hands in their pockets when they entered any store. It is a habit that continues today.

Many young people lived with Linda and Carl from time to time for various reasons. They unofficially adopted Eric Strick as their fifth son and were very proud of him and his young family. Linda and Carl also hosted two foreign exchange students, Andrej Radonic of Germany, and Michiko Wada of Japan.

Linda was devoted to her faith and served as a role model to those around her. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Almelo.

Preceding her in death were her husband Carl and her parents.

Linda Jean (Stackhouse) Wahlmeier

&nbsp; Danny Lee George, 71, of Oakley, KS, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, surrounded by many loving family members, at Gove County Medical Center, in Quinter, KS. His friends and family found him to be an exceptional, humble, and hardworking man that will be deeply missed.Danny was born in Quinter, KS, on March 20, 1953, to Frank Alva and Verna (Schroeder) George. He attended Grinnell Grade School through the fourth grade. In 1964, the family moved to the farm north of Oakley and Danny attended St. Joseph Catholic School through the eighth grade before transferring to Oakley High School, where he graduated with the class of 1971.

While in high school, Danny was on the wrestling and cross-country teams, lettering in both sports all three years. He was proud to be part of the state championship cross-country team of 1970-71, which was a first for Oakley High School. The same year, his wrestling team won second place in the state wrestling championship.

Danny loved the comradery of working cattle alongside his dad and brothers in his younger days. He purchased the farm from his parents in 2003 and continued the dairy his father had started. At times he milked over a hundred cows twice a day. After 38 years of operation, Danny closed the dairy and ventured into cattle. He proudly developed a great Red Angus herd. The past nine years, Danny courageously battled cancer, but was still able to play an active role on his farm, overseeing the birth of many calves. He used his years of experience to provide guidance and support to his nephews that worked with him in the cattle business.

Danny married the love of his life, Karla Zimmerman, on October 11, 1975. They enjoyed multiple vacations with family members, the most memorable being a trip to Las Vegas. He was devoted to his wife, but also cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Danny was an enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, watching games whenever possible. He could be heard complaining of bad calls when things didn’t go the Chiefs way. Danny had a special passion for Western television shows and movies. You would be hard pressed to find a Western he didn’t love.Danny was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bob; sister Louetta Albers; brother-in-law LeRoy Albers and father-in-law David Zimmerman.

Survivors include his wife, Karla; sisters, Janice (Wilbur) Racette and Lois (Gil) Sigg; brother Bill (Brenda) George; mother-in-law Ilene Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Gerrie George, Karen (Barney) Dickman, Karma (Michael) Sees and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

&nbsp; Danny Lee George, 71, of Oakley, KS, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2024, surrounded by many loving family members, at Gove County Medical Center, in Quinter, KS. His friends and family found him to be an exceptional, humble, and hardworking man that will be deeply missed.Danny was born in Quinter, KS, on March 20, 1953, to Frank Alva and Verna (Schroeder) George. He attended Grinnell Grade School through the fourth grade. In 1964, the family moved to the farm north of Oakley and Danny attended St. Joseph Catholic School through the eighth grade before transferring to Oakley High School, where he graduated with the class of 1971.While in high school, Danny was on the wrestling and cross-country teams, lettering in both sports all three years. He was proud to be part of the state championship cross-country team of 1970-71, which was a first for Oakley High School. The same year, his wrestling team won second place in the state wrestling championship.Danny loved the comradery of working cattle alongside his dad and brothers in his younger days. He purchased the farm from his parents in 2003 and continued the dairy his father had started. At times he milked over a hundred cows twice a day. After 38 years of operation, Danny closed the dairy and ventured into cattle. He proudly developed a great Red Angus herd. The past nine years, Danny courageously battled cancer, but was still able to play an active role on his farm, overseeing the birth of many calves. He used his years of experience to provide guidance and support to his nephews that worked with him in the cattle business.Danny married the love of his life, Karla Zimmerman, on October 11, 1975. They enjoyed multiple vacations with family members, the most memorable being a trip to Las Vegas. He was devoted to his wife, but also cherished the time spent with his family and friends. Danny was an enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, watching games whenever possible. He could be heard complaining of bad calls when things didn’t go the Chiefs way. Danny had a special passion for Western television shows and movies. Carol Ann Stamm, age 69, of Goodland passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024. Carol was born June 18, 1954 to Gail and Celia (Gunnary) Hopkins in South Carolina. She grew up and went to school in San Jose, California. She received her nursing degree in Oregon and later attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas for her elementary teachers &nbsp;degree.

She moved to Goodland in 2021 from Oberlin. She taught school in many school districts in Kansas and worked at Rescare in Goodland. Carol enjoyed crocheting, cross stitch, playing the violin and spending time with her family and friends.

She was born December 28, 1927 to Issac and Lydia (Heppner) Wedell in Winton, California. She grew up and went to school in Winton. On October 28, 1947 Erma married Clifford Unruh in Merced County California. They moved to Sharon Springs where Erma was a homemaker. &nbsp;&nbsp;Carol Gene Hunter passed away June 25, 2024 at Country Living in Larned, KS having moved there from Omaha, NE in 2022.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She was born on February 15, 1943 to her parents, Eugene (Bud) and Esther Nastri Chewning. She always considered herself a “California Girl” having been born and raised in West Covina, California and graduating with highest honors from West Covina High School in 1960.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Carol attended Westminister College in Utah for two years where she met her soon to be husband, Terry Alan Hunter. She moved back to California in 1962 to attend Cal Poly College while Terry was in Officers Training School for the United States Air Force. On December 29, 1962, Carol and Terry married in West Covina. The couple moved to Arizona where Carol finished her bachelor’s degree in secondary math and English education in 1964 at Arizona State University. She had her first teaching job at a high school in Adana, Turkey where Terry was stationed with the Air Force.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Carol spent the rest of her life teaching in many different ways as she worked in business and higher education eventually becoming the CEO/Co-Founder of FGI International in 1983. Over the next thirty plus years, FGI provided her with a vehicle to not only teach but also to learn from the many people she met and worked with as a consultant to organizations in change management and leadership development. She was most proud of the work she did and the relationships she made in her travels to Russia, China and India. She immersed herself in these new cultures and strived to learn about each person she met with an open mind and an open heart.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Outside of her work, Carol loved visits to the ocean, growing beautiful flowers and exotic water lilies, her goldfish ponds, supporting the causes she believed in &nbsp;and time spent with her grandsons.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Carol was preceded in death by her husband and her beloved sister, Antoinette “Toni” Prather.&nbsp;

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;She is survived by her daughter, Tina (David) Gladow, Larned, KS; son, Tim Hunter, Omaha, NE; grandsons, Colton and Austin Gladow, Hays, KS and other extended family and friends.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;The family would like to thank and acknowledge the amazing staff at Country Living of Larned for the steadfast and loving care they have provided for the past two years. They were truly like family for Carol.&nbsp;

Marshall R. Rouse, 65 passed away June 26, 2024 at Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita.

He was born October 25, 1958 in Vinita, Oklahoma; the son of Walter Benjamin and Wilma Roof Rouse. &nbsp;A longtime area resident, he was a concrete and construction worker.

He was of the Christian Faith and a member of Faith Community Church in Great Bend. &nbsp;He was a Pastor and Evangelist, was a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association, volunteered and preached at Soup Kitchens, ministered to the homeless, and enjoyed doing mission work. &nbsp;He loved fishing, camping, working on cars, tinkering with things, enjoying time with his dog, Leah, who was his best friend and spending time with his grandchildren.

He married Kay Simms Drews, they later divorced but have remained close friends.

Survivors include his son, Brandon (Hypatia) Rouse, Larned; four brothers, Michael (Karen) Rouse, Miami, OK, Brad (Kristi) Rouse, Heizer, Brent (Amy) Rouse, Harrison, AR, Bo (Tisha) Rouse, Larned; seven sisters, Tammy (Tony) Woods, Lesia (Duane) Dipman, Kalamazoo, MI, Shane Wysong, Larned, Shantel (David) Barrett, Larned, Kisty (Brandon) Shultz, Hays, Tassy Rouse, Hays, Megan (Mark) Nelson, Great Bend; two grandchildren, Hylee Danger Rouse and Wylden Adventure Rouse; two bonus grandchildren, Aylin Schulz and Deo Schulz, his close friends, Kay Drews, Larned and Cody Helms, Great Bend and many nieces and nephews.

Willena Jewel (Tunstall) Martin born 0ctober 2, 1922, in Eufaula, Oklahoma. She died June 25, 2024, in Ellis, Kansas.&nbsp;

Willena was proud of her family. She was an excellent cook and there was always room at the table for any extra kid that came home. She always had a garden and loved roses.&nbsp;

Willena was an active participant in her community. She was a lifelong Democrat and served on the school board and city council in Chase, Kansas. She was the postmaster at the Chase Post Office for 20 years. Willena was active as a volunteer in hospitals, the Foster Grandparent program(Chase and Ellis), and the Sternberg Museum. After she retired she spent time traveling and visiting family. Her memberships included: the Retired Postmasters Association, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, the St. Mary’s Altar Society (Chase), and the Daughters of Isabella.&nbsp;

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Effie Tunstall; siblings Roy and Juanita who died in infancy; brother Kenneth and sisters HaraLee and Betty; sons James and Joseph; granddaughter Melissa; and her husband Woodrow Martin.&nbsp;

Willena is survived by children: Virginia (Doug) Spurlock, Philip (Cappy Gaschler) Martin, Anne (Dave) Gurss, and Kenneth (Stephanie) Martin. Grandchildren: Tony Spurlock, Lorene Ruiz, Jamie Martin, Jed Martin, Nicole Hammond, Jenifer Wood, Charles Martin, and Lucas Gurss. Eleven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.&nbsp;

Family plans a private Celebration of Life luncheon in order to share stories and memories about this remarkable woman. Cremains will be interred at St. Mary’s cemetery (Chase) in a private ceremony.

David N Giebler, a resident of Hiawatha, Iowa, formerly of Hays, Kansas, passed away at home on June 21, 2024. He was born on August 12, 1952, in Hays, Kansas, to Celestine “Celly” and Mary (Kroner) Giebler.

In October 1977, he married Colleen Rae Ferguson in Hiawatha, Iowa.

David graduated from Hays High School in 1970 and from the Central Institute of Technology in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1972 with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Electronics Engineering Technology. David retired from Rockwell Collins after 33 years as an electrical technician.

David enjoyed his cats and was an active volunteer of the Iowa Humane Alliance. He enjoyed tinkering with his hot rod cars and even raced them in his younger years.

David is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Colleen in 2010.

David is survived by his stepdaughter Anne Andrews (Bill Fleisher) of Alexandria, Virginia, and stepson Scott (Joy) Andrews of Huxley, Iowa; six grandchildren; sister Shirley (Earl) Brungardt of Hays, Kansas, brother Larry Giebler of Victoria, Kansas, brother Rick (Marilyn) Giebler of Hays, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vincent F. Adolfson, of Ellis, Kansas, age 95, passed away on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born on November 22, 1928, to John and Emma (Melin) Adolfson in Lancaster, Minnesota.

Following high school, Vince joined the Army on August 21, 1948. After basic training he was stationed at Randoph Field in San Antonio, Texas. In 1949 he transferred from the Army to the Air Force where he went to teletype school in Cheyenne, Wyoming, from there he was transferred to Wichita Air Force Base where he was discharged in 1952. He worked for Cudahy Foods in Wichita for 24 years. He then worked for Hudson Foods for 14 years.

He moved to Ellis, KS in 1998. Vince was a member of the Ellis United Methodist Church where he assisted with the monthly newsletter and enjoyed many activities. He was also known as the “Dog Whisperer” as many residents would ask him to take care of their dogs if they went out of town. His biggest joy was to join his friends at Spruce Villa for coffee time where he would supply the group with many jokes.

He married Barbra Clark in 1952 and they divorced.&nbsp; In 1967 he married Hester M. Hall.

He is survived by his son Garrison Clarke (Sebastian Patti) Chicago, IL., Daughter Karen Day (Joseph) Ellis, KS, Grandson Chris Smith (Connie) Ellis, KS, Granddaughter Brandie Rush (Todd) Wichita, KS. Great-Grandson Brandon Rush (Leslie), Sister Betty Peterson (Donald), Newfolden, MN.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held on July 6, 2024, with visitation starting at 9:30 am and services beginning at 10:30 am at the Ellis United Methodist Church, 1201 Washington, Ellis, Kansas. A private interment was held at Resthaven Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.

 </figure>Vincent F. Adolfson, of Ellis, Kansas, age 95, passed away on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. He was born on November 22, 1928, to John and Emma (Melin) Adolfson in Lancaster, Minnesota.Following high school, Vince joined the Army on August 21, 1948. After basic training he was stationed at Randoph Field in San Antonio, Texas. In 1949 he transferred from the Army to the Air Force where he went to teletype school in Cheyenne, Wyoming, from there he was transferred to Wichita Air Force Base where he was discharged in 1952. He worked for Cudahy Foods in Wichita for 24 years. He then worked for Hudson Foods for 14 years.He moved to Ellis, KS in 1998. Vince was a member of the Ellis United Methodist Church where he assisted with the monthly newsletter and enjoyed many activities. He was also known as the “Dog Whisperer” as many residents would ask him to take care of their dogs if they went out of town. His biggest joy was to join his friends at Spruce Villa for coffee time where he would supply the group with many jokes.He married Barbra Clark in 1952 and they divorced.&nbsp; In 1967 he married Hester M. Vincent F. Adolfson

Franklin Charles Powers, 87, of Gove, KS, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on June 24, 2024, at the Gove County Medical Center. Frank was born on December 2, 1936, to Miles and Rosa (Gehm) Powers outside of Grinnell, KS. It was a very frigid winter. After being born, his mom put him in a shoebox and on top of the stove door to keep him warm as he only weighed four pounds. Frank was the youngest of eight children. He was an uncle the day he was born. Living only two miles from town, on the farm his dad bought in 1922, Frank attended Gove’s School District and graduated with the class of 1954.

Frank and Ferol’s first date was to a drive-in movie…the Charley Pride song, “Burgers and Fries,” is how Frank would describe the setting. After dating for 10 months, Frank proposed to the love of his life, Mona Ferol Dawson, and they were married on May 31st, 1959, at Oakley Nazarene Church. They started their family soon after and had Jim, Mike, and Brian. They waited a few years, then had Marshall and Eric. Frank and Ferol shared 65 years of love and devotion together.

Frank served in the Air Force from 1957 to 1961. After being honorably discharged, he worked several jobs. In 1964, he began working for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He retired from the State Department in 1999. He was also a member of the Kansas National Guard for 18 years, President of the Kansas Author’s Club, American Legion Post No. 201, the American Red Cross, Kansas Freemasons Lodge No. 318, Gove County Historical Museum, Quinter Historical Society, and several others. People would probably describe him as a walking historian. He was the best tour guide for the Gove County Historical Museum as he had a way of making history come to life through personal stories.

Frank was an avid writer. He had written many stories about his life and kept them in a binder he titled, “Memories of a former Farm Boy”. He would jot down memories from his birth, mishaps and fixes, political history, and family stories until the end of his life. He also authored a few poems as well. He was a published author in Reminisce magazine. He would read a couple of his stories, annually, to the 3rd-grade class at Quinter Elementary School. It was something he looked forward to every year.

Frank enjoyed camping, pitching horseshoes, bowling, car shows, and visiting with people. As much as he loved these activities, he loved his family more. Frank took his role of “Grandpa” seriously. He and Ferol regularly took their grandkids on camping trips and attended many of their concerts and other activities.

Frank attended the Gove Methodist Church for many years and then attended services at the Gove Community Bible Church. He and Ferol regularly attended a week-long family camp, with Jim’s family, called Black Hill Bible Camp. Frank was a lifelong follower of Jesus Christ and studied God’s word.

Frank made friends and left a good impression wherever he went. He had a kind heart and would help anyone in need, even if it meant he’d have to sacrifice. In doing so, he left a wonderful legacy. He was well-loved and will be dearly missed.

Frank is survived by his wife, Ferol, of the home; three sons, Jim (Judy) Powers of Quinter, KS, Mike Powers of Oakley, KS, and Brian Powers of Gove, KS; three grandchildren, Dustri (Lance) Brown of Collyer, KS, Dayna (Brenton) Pennington of Quinter, KS, and Austin (Breann) Powers

of Quinter, KS; eleven great-grandchildren, Evahri, Eiyah, and Eadon Brown of Collyer, KS, Miley, Carter, and Jordyn Pennington of Quinter, KS, and Riley, Miles, Dylan, Tucker, and Trenton Powers of Quinter, KS. He also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; Sanford Powers, Robert Powers, Rosemary Lemaster, Edward Powers, Ruth Romesburg, John Powers, and Annabelle Powers; two sons, Marshall Powers and Eric Powers; and an infant great-granddaughter, Annabelle Powers.

Franklin Charles Powers

Ronald Lee Kough, 78, of Winona, died Monday, June 24, 2024. He was born June 17, 1946, in Colby, KS, the oldest child of Blair and Helen (Seele) Kough. Ron attended the Page City School from 1st-8th grade and then went to Winona High School, graduating in 1964. He went on to attend Fort Hays State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Arts in 1969. Ron then went to work for JC Penney in several locations, including Great Bend, KS from 1969-1976, Dodge City, KS 1976-1977 and Pratt, KS as manager of the store from 1977-1992. All the while, Ron was a “suitcase farmer” traveling back to Winona often to help out, until 1992, when he moved back to farm full time, which he did for the remainder of his life.

Ron was united in marriage to Sonja Gustafson on August 22, 1965, at the Winona United Methodist Church. To this union four children were born. Ron enjoyed traveling with his family and loved to stop at amusement parks and zoos. For their 25th anniversary, Ron and Sonja enjoyed a trip to Hawaii. He was adventurous and at the age of 61 tried white water rafting. In his younger years, Ron enjoyed woodworking and doing other projects. While in Pratt Ron grew a large garden in his backyard. He enjoyed raising and spoiling his cattle just like they were his pets. Ron also served on the Logan County FSA Board. One of the biggest joys in Ron’s life was his family.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, son David and sister Jeri Dee Hughbanks.

He is survived by his wife Sonja; children, Brett (Erica) Kough, Rhonda (James) Huber and Bryan (Mollie) Kough; grandchildren, Michael Carstens, Bree Kough, Paige and Hunter Huber and Logan, Sawyer and Rory Kough and siblings, Mike (Sheryl) Kough and Roger (Connie) Kough.

The family will receive friends from 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley. Interment will take place at the Oakley City Cemetery. Ronald Lee Kough

Phillipsburg, KS resident, Ralph J. Cote, passed away Monday, June 24, 2024 at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 82.

He was born June 2, 1942 in Kankakee, Illinois the son of LeRoy J. and Marian F. (Allison) Cote. &nbsp;He spent his childhood through a young adult in Kankakee.

He began his railroad career as Brakeman for Conrail Railroad Company in 1967 and finished his career as an Engineer with the Kyle railroad company in Phillipsburg, KS, retiring in 2006.

Ralph was united in marriage to Frances E. Kerrins on April 15, 1967 in Kankakee, Illinois. &nbsp;

After his life changing experience with Jesus, in 1977, Ralph never looked back to his old way of life. Ralph had a voice that carried, so everyone heard what he was going to say, whether they wanted to hear it or not. &nbsp; &nbsp;Ralph never shied away from sharing his thoughts, any of them. Most importantly, he boldly devoted himself to sharing Jesus with anyone who would listen; even in last hours he witnessed to the medical staff that was caring for him.

Ralph served our country in the U.S. Navy 1961 to 1965 on the USS Kitty Hawk aircraft carrier. Ralph loved motorcycles, he belonged to the Christian Motorcycle Association. He also happily served in prison ministry and was awarded the “Volunteer of the Year” for the Norton Correctional Facility in 2006.

Ralph demonstrated his joy in the gift of giving. &nbsp;Whether it was for a stranger he met on the streets, his neighbor, or his family, Ralph carried out his desire to share with others. &nbsp;He often enjoyed spending time in God’s creation by grilling, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle through the mountains, especially with Fran. &nbsp;Ralph treasured the time he spent with his family. &nbsp;In recent months, the new puppies brought him plenty of smiles.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Fran; his parents; grandson Levi W. Incitti; and great grandson Elijah Stewart.

Survivors include two daughters Shelly Cote and Kelly Cote, both of Phillipsburg; two sons Thomas Cote and wife Debby of Lubbock, TX and Rick Banuelos and wife Celeste of Trinidad, CO; a sister Mary Lee Cardosi of Englewood, FL; 9 grandchildren: &nbsp;Mallory Laughlin, AJ and Emilie Coca, Tarynn Stewart, Jordan Cote, Garrett Cote, Aubrey Clark, Ryan Banuelos, and Taylor Felthager and their families; and 19 great grandchildren.

Ralph J. Cote

On December 5, 1982, Douglas and Helen Wiebe joyfully welcomed Jonathan into the world to join his older brother Justin. Over the next eleven years, Jonathan and Justin were joined by siblings Benjamin, Kristen, and Casey. Life on the farm was always busy. Jon spent much of his growing up years learning perseverance, hard work, and diligence through working cattle, hoeing shattercane, and doing many other farm-related tasks alongside his dad and brothers. Every summer, Jon eagerly looked forward to his week-long break from farm work to attend Camp Good News in Ark City. Jon greatly appreciated the beauty around him. He often stopped to admire God’s mighty power displayed through His creation of sunrises, sunsets, and flowers – frequently gathering bouquets of flowers to share with his mom. Though he worked hard outside, he also enjoyed baking for the special people in his life. Jon’s specialty was making cinnamon rolls, breads, and biscuits with gravy. Other times, Jon showed his love for his family and friends by writing them special notes with words of affirmation.

Growing up in a family who prioritized their Christian faith, Jon trusted Jesus as his personal Savior at the young age of 4. After hearing a moving sermon at Emmaus Church, Jon was convicted of his sins and his need for a Savior. Over the next several weeks, God worked to soften Jon’s hardened, stubborn heart, drawing Jon to Himself. Jon’s parents helped him understand that Jesus died on the cross and rose again, conquering the eternal punishment he deserved for his sins. With the guidance of his parents, Jon accepted Christ into his life, acknowledging Christ as his Savior.

Jon attended Berean Academy kindergarten through high school. Through his biblical education at Berean, Jon’s faith in God grew through the influence and teaching of godly teachers and staff. He graduated from Berean in May 2002. After his senior year of high school, Jon spent a summer doing ministry at Victory Bible Camp in Alaska. Jon went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Once he graduated college, Jon returned to Whitewater and became deeply involved in ministries at Emmaus Church, especially the Emmaus missions committee.

After a very long “friendship” and pursuit of Staci Ranfeld, Jon and Staci were married on March 18, 2017. After their marriage, Jon and Staci moved to Ingalls where they became the owners and operators of Cattle Country Feeders, Inc. Staci and Jon had a heart for children in hard places. During their seven years of marriage, Jon and Staci fostered sixteen children, adopting eight of those children as their own. Jon unconditionally loved his children and enjoyed spending time with them. As a father, Jon desired to pass on a love for Jesus to his children. He worked to instill godly character traits into his children through the times they spent together. Jon prioritized family devotions and praying together as a family. Special memories were made helping daddy process cattle, going on daddy-dates with his girls, checking cattle in the pasture, playing Jenga, making special Saturday pancakes together, and running from the “Mighty T-Rex.” Jon enjoyed the last year of living life together with his family 24/7, a perk of having decided to homeschool. As an adult, Jon still appreciated the beauty of flowers, an appreciation that lives on in his boys. Every spring, Jon planted an array of zinnias in front of their house. Throughout the spring and summer months, the Wiebe table was rarely without a bouquet of zinnias that Jon had picked for Staci. Acts of service and gifts were a major way he showed his love for his family. Jon made everyone he crossed paths with feel welcomed and at ease. His attentive and listening ear, engaging smile, crazy teasing, and boisterous laughter will be remember by all who knew him.

Ministry was important to Jon. After moving to Ingalls, he became a very involved member of the Pierceville Federated Church. CEF Camp Good News continued to be a big part of Jon’s summers. After counseling at camp for countless years, he and Staci became directors of Camp Good News for the past 8 years. Through that ministry “Uncle” Jon touched the lives of hundreds of children.

On June 21, 2024, due to medical complications, Jon left this earth and entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior. Jon will be greatly missed by his wife, Staci Wiebe; his eight children - Poe, Andrew, Moses, Lily, Bonnie, Silas, Brock &amp; Asher; his parents Douglas &amp; Helen Wiebe of Whitewater; his three brothers - Justin &amp; Carissa Wiebe of Whitewater, Benjamin &amp; Shandra Wiebe of Burns, and Casey &amp; Ellie Wiebe of Whitewater; his sister Kristen &amp; Ben Bielenberg of Blue Mound; his brother-in-law Wesley &amp; Marcy Ranfeld of Whitewater; his sister-in-law Shawna &amp; Thad Wysong of Columbia City, Indiana; his parents-in-law - Kelly &amp; Phyllis Ranfeld of Whitewater; and his many nieces and nephews.

On December 5, 1982, Douglas and Helen Wiebe joyfully welcomed Jonathan into the world to join his older brother Justin. Over the next eleven years, Jonathan and Justin were joined by siblings Benjamin, Kristen, and Casey. Life on the farm was always busy. Jon spent much of his growing up years learning perseverance, hard work, and diligence through working cattle, hoeing shattercane, and doing many other farm-related tasks alongside his dad and brothers. Every summer, Jon eagerly looked forward to his week-long break from farm work to attend Camp Good News in Ark City. Jon greatly appreciated the beauty around him. He often stopped to admire God’s mighty power displayed through His creation of sunrises, sunsets, and flowers – frequently gathering bouquets of flowers to share with his mom. Though he worked hard outside, he also enjoyed baking for the special people in his life. Jon’s specialty was making cinnamon rolls, breads, and biscuits with gravy. Other times, Jon showed his love for his family and friends by writing them special notes with words of affirmation.Growing up in a family who prioritized their Christian faith, Jon trusted Jesus as his personal Savior at the young age of 4. After hearing a moving sermon at Emmaus Church, Jon was convicted of his sins and his need for a Savior. Over the next several weeks, God worked to soften Jon’s hardened, stubborn heart, drawing Jon to Himself. Jon’s parents helped him understand that Jesus died on the cross and rose again, conquering the eternal punishment he deserved for his sins. With the guidance of his parents, Jon accepted Christ into his life, acknowledging Christ as his Savior.Jon attended Berean Academy kindergarten through high school. Through his biblical education at Berean, Jon’s faith in God grew through the influence and teaching of godly teachers and staff. He graduated from Berean in May 2002. After his senior year of high school, Jon spent a summer doing ministry at Victory Bible Camp in Alaska. Jon went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Once he graduated college, Jon returned to Whitewater and became deeply involved in ministries at Emmaus Church, especially the Emmaus missions committee.After a very long “friendship” and pursuit of Staci Ranfeld, Jon and Staci were married on March 18, 2017. After their marriage, Jon and Staci moved to Ingalls where they became the owners and operators of Cattle Country Feeders, Inc. Staci and Jon had a heart for children in hard places. During their seven years of marriage, Jon and Staci fostered sixteen children, adopting eight of those children as their own. Jon unconditionally loved his children and enjoyed spending time with them. As a father, Jon desired to pass on a love for Jesus to his children. He worked to instill godly character traits into his children through the times they spent together. Jon prioritized family devotions and praying together as a family. Garden City- Dolline “Dolly” Skilling, 82, died on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at her home in Wichita. She was born on June 23, 1941 at Garden City the daughter of Leroy George &amp; Mabel Dolline (Taylor) Myers. She married John Orville Shriver in Lamar, Colorado. She later married Charles Clark Skilling on October 10, 1987 at Garden City. He died on January 6, 2021.

Dolly attended school in Brandon, Oregon and worked in a nursing home kitchen in Brandon. She later moved to Las Animas, Colorado. She moved back to Garden City and had worked at Wendy’s and Alco. She enjoyed collecting angels and chickens and working puzzles.

She is survived by her 4 children- Alvira Loya of San Bernadino, California, Leora &amp; Lee Havens of Penrose, Colorado, Orville &amp; Mary Shriver of Wichita and Alida Potter of Nebraska along with Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband, 1 Son- Eddie Shriver, 2 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Granddaughter.

 </figure>GAYLORD – Gerald Lawrence Caspers age 88 passed away on Thursday June 20, 2024 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital.Gerald Lawrence Caspers was born on November 21, 1936 in rural Athol, Kansas. He and his siblings Robert, Phyllis and Karen never fought as their parents taught them to always be fair.Gerald married Betty (Henning) Caspers on Nov, 11 1956 and that loving union has continued for 67 years. In his career as a master brick and stone mason, Gerald worked on churches, schools and hospitals all over the state of Kansas and Nebraska. He and his family returned to Gaylord in 1970 where he and Betty raised their three children. During that time he managed Gaylord Manufacturing, Inc and was very active in the community as a volunteer firefighter, member of the City Council and served on the Cemetery Board. Gerald enjoyed wood working, restoring old tools and having many wonderful times sharing God’s ministry in Gideon’s with his brother Robert.Gerald is a most beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and cousin and his example was the cornerstone to his entire family and we look forward to seeing him again soon.Gerald is survived by his wife, Betty; son, Steve Caspers (Julie); daughter, Sandy Lloyd (Dave); daughter Cheri George (Timothy). The active mind and busy hands of Philisene Probasco were stilled on Friday, June 21, 2024, at the age of 105 years, 8 months, and 23 days.

Philisene was born in a farmhouse in Belmont Township in Rooks County, Kansas, on September 28, 1918. She lived most of her life in and near Stockton, Kansas, except for a brief time she spent in Hugo, Colorado, where her sister Gertrude (Koppes) Biggie (age 97) was born, and her family helped farm sugar beets.

Her Mother, Clara Irene (Griebel) Koppes, and father, Albert John Koppes, had four children: Vernon Koppes, Nick Koppes, Philisene, and Gertrude (Koppes) Bigge. Philisene and her family lived in a rock house north of Webster Lake, and she attended High Hill Grade School, District 99. She left school in the 11th grade and went to work sewing and helping her mother.

On November 1, 1938, Philisene married Carl E. Probasco (1909-2003). They were married for 64 years and had two children, George Probasco and Barbara (Probasco) Williams. Philisene and Carl farmed in Rooks County, near Stockton, Kansas, for all their married life.

Philisene was a faithful St. Thomas Catholic Church member, always volunteering and helping bake pies for the Catholic Bazaar. She kept active cooking, baking, gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing, making quilts, playing cards and bingo, bird watching, camping, traveling, taking photos, raising monarchs, and keeping tabs on her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a whole host of friends and extended family. She also enjoyed serving on the election board for Iowa Township.

Philisene and Carl bought a camper trailer and traveled to Missouri, Minnesota, North Dakota, Idaho, Oregon, Colorado, and many places in between. They always traveled to wherever their children and grandchildren were living at the time.

In March 2009, Philisene became a resident of St Johns/Via Christi Village Assisted Living (VCV). She almost never missed bingo, attended many extra events, enjoyed the musical groups, and logged over 300 miles walking in the halls. She had some wonderful birthday parties at VCV with many family members and friends joining her in celebration.

A survivor of two pandemics (Spanish Flu and Covid-19), Philisene kept a journal and took many photos documenting her travels and experiences. The family still refers to her journals and photos from time to time to recall or confirm special events.

Survived by her son and daughter, George Probasco (Carole) - Hays, KS and Barbara Williams (Richard) - Stockton; grandchildren, Jill Waltemath (Rick) - Omaha, NE; Jennifer Bull (Michael) - Omaha, NE, Ryan Williams - Hays, KS and Amy Reif (Patrick) - Plainville, KS; great grandchildren Mackenzie Reinbold (Christian) - Hastings, NE, Nathan Waltemath - Omaha, NE, and Jordan Bull - Omaha, NE; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Saint Thomas Catholic Church in Stockton. Burial will follow at the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home in Stockton.

LENORA – Andrew Joseph Cummings, 57, of Lenora, KS, unexpectedly passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 in his home. He was born July 26, 1966 in Prescott, AZ, the son of Patrick A. Cummings and Betty M. (Weber) House. Andrew attended schools in Valley Falls and Ozawkie, KS, and Blueberry, BC, Canada and lived in many locations including Arizona, Kansas, Minnesota, Arkansas, Alaska, Montana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Canada. He was a blacksmith, carpenter, and farmer.

He married Melannie Suzanne Miller on April 21, 2001 in Lead Hill, AR; they later divorced. He was preceded in death by his father, Patrick. Survivors include his six children: Johnathan of Muskogee, OK, Nathan of Coleraine, MN, Ashley of Lenora, KS, Lilley, Colten and Jake of Coleraine, MN; mother, Betty; 5 sisters, Dolores, Carolyn, Julie, Mary and Monica; 5 brothers, David, Jeff, Patrick, Chris, and Greg and 46 nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Rose Egger, a beloved member of the Ellis and Hays communities, passed away on June 24, 2024, at HaysMed in Hays. She was born on August 21, 1941, in Ellis, Kansas, to Alois and Evelyn, (Schmeidler) Rupp, where she grew up and cultivated lifelong connections and friendships.

Rose married James O’Rourke on October 17, 1959. They had two sons, Kevin and Sean.&nbsp; After James’s passing, she later met and married Douglas Egger on November 29, 1997. Her blended family was a source of happines for her as it allowed her to embrace the roles of grandmother and great-grandmother. She derived joy from supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities.

She had an infectious laugh and found joy in celebrating birthdays with her chocolate sheet cakes, her time at home with family, and her weekly trips to the beauty shop.

Rose had a passion for gardening and flowers and appreciation for the outdoors and was blessed with the best neighbors.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: James O'Rourke and Douglas Egger, siblings: Helen Richardson, Alois Rupp, Norman Rupp, Anton Rupp, John J. Rupp, and sons: Sean and Kevin.

 </figure>Rose Egger, a beloved member of the Ellis and Hays communities, passed away on June 24, 2024, at HaysMed in Hays. She was born on August 21, 1941, in Ellis, Kansas, to Alois and Evelyn, (Schmeidler) Rupp, where she grew up and cultivated lifelong connections and friendships.Rose married James O’Rourke on October 17, 1959. They had two sons, Kevin and Sean.&nbsp; After James’s passing, she later met and married Douglas Egger on November 29, 1997. Her blended family was a source of happines for her as it allowed her to embrace the roles of grandmother and great-grandmother. She derived joy from supporting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all their activities.She had an infectious laugh and found joy in celebrating birthdays with her chocolate sheet cakes, her time at home with family, and her weekly trips to the beauty shop.Rose had a passion for gardening and flowers and appreciation for the outdoors and was blessed with the best neighbors.Rose was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: James O'Rourke and Douglas Egger, siblings: Helen Richardson, Alois Rupp, Norman Rupp, Anton Rupp, John J. Rupp, and sons: Sean and Kevin.She is survived by stepdaughters; Renee Rupp (Dave) of Hays, Kansas, Raimy Hester (Keith) of Hutchinson, Kansas; brothers Clarence Rupp of Ellis, Kansas, James Rupp (Henrietta) of Denver, Colorado; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church - Ellis.&nbsp; Inurnment will follow the services in the church cemetery.&nbsp;Memorial visitation will be Sunday, June 30, 2024, from 6 PM to 8 PM with a combined rosary and parish vigil service at 7 PM at the church.Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s School in Ellis, and the ARC of Central Plains.
