Lawrence Gene “Larry” Desbien, 69, of Damar, Kansas died April 22, 2024, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas. Larry was born February 13, 1955, to Phillip E. and Verna O. (Simoneau) Desbien in Hays. He grew up with his six siblings in and around the Damar area. He attended grade school in Damar and graduated from Palco High School in 1973.

Following graduation, he attended Vocational Tech in Beloit, Kansas, becoming an electrician. Larry married Christine Hamel June 14, 1975, in Zurich and together they raised five children. His first job in his field was at Hadley Hospital in Hays. He then was in maintenance at St. Anthony Hospital also in Hays, and the hospital in LaCrosse.

In 1980 Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force. Here he became a ground radio communications craftsman. Six years of his service were filled with many overseas deployments including: Alaska, Japan, Australia, Guam, and France. Throughout his military service, Larry displayed a deep commitment to his country. Following 20 years of military service, he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant, and returned to Damar. Beyond his miliary career he was a pillar of strength and support for his family, friends, and community. He organized and led the Memorial Services on Memorial Day in both Damar and Bogue until his health declined.

Family and Faith were always the most important part of Larry’s life. Larry was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Joseph Church in Damar. He gave his time and talents as a Religious Education teacher, Eucharistic Minister and Lector.

As a civilian Larry did substitute teaching in the area and soon became the maintenance and transportation director for USD 269. A few years later, Larry joined the Midwest Community Bank staff in Plainville and Palco. He began as a loan officer, and later a compliance officer until he retired.

Full retirement kept Larry very active and busy. As a grandpa of 16, he was definitely hands-on. He willingly accepted the duty of sexton for St. Joseph Cemetery and had various hobbies and projects he was always excited to tell you about. And his story wouldn’t be complete if we left out his love for raising cattle.

Left to mourn Larry and to follow his legacy of love and service are his devoted wife, Chris of Damar; sons: Perry Desbien of Smith Center and Travis Desbien and wife Rachael of Hill City; daughters: Mindy Desbien of Damar, Tracy Stithem and husband Chris of Topeka and Savannah Desbien of Topeka; brothers: Ed Desbien and wife Mary of Boise City, Oklahoma, Jim Desbien and wife Paula of Plainville, Richard Desbien and wife Wanda of Nampa, Idaho; sisters: Gerry and husband Don Larson of Hays, Chris Sillin of Hutchinson, and Sheila and husband J.F. Surmeier of St. Joseph, Missouri; 16 grandchildren: Emily, Amber, Jason, Brady, Rylan, Lincoln, Scarlet, Graham, Alexis, Parker, Maelyn, Nolan, Evelyn, Ellie, Emmett, and Bentley; many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Larry’s warm smile, kind heart, and gentle spirit endeared him to all who knew him. He will be remembered foldly for his sense of humor, his love of adventure, and his steadfast loyalty to those he cherished. Rest in Peace, good and faithful servant.

Lawrence Gene “Larry” Desbien

Donna Marie Burghardt was born July 1, 1924, and lived with her parents, Harlan and Thelma (English) Dettweiler on a farm just west of Kingfisher, Oklahoma. She married LeRoy Edwin Burghardt on December 31, 1941, and together they celebrated 61 years of marriage before Roy’s passing on October 9, 2002.

Marie and Roy had three children: her only son, Ron (Sandra of Hastings, NE), who also preceded her in death, December 13, 2003, and two daughters, Janet (Rich McDaneld) Waters of Osborne, KS and Phyllis (Monte) Johnson of Atlanta, GA.

Marie and Roy enjoyed taking their travel trailer throughout the continental United States and Canada. She enjoyed crocheting and was kept busy making baby blankets for her eleven (11) grandchildren, twenty-two (22) great-grandchildren and thirty-four (34) great-great-grandchildren.

Marie went home to be with Jesus on April 20, 2024, at the age of 99, less than three months from her goal of surviving until her 100th birthday.

Garden City- Jeff Jones, 59, died on Monday, April 22, 2024 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born on March 10, 1965 at Atwood the son of Jerry &amp; Sue (Depugh) Jones. He married Sarah Sarber in Garden City.

Jeff moved with his family to Garden City in 1972. He attended Georgia Matthews and Alta Brown Elementary schools before graduating from Garden City High School with the Class of 1983. He started his working career as an Auto Mechanic at Garden City Co-op Car Care Center which later became Midas before moving to Spikes Brothers Farms. In 1994 he started his career at Finney County Feeders and currently was Assistant Manager.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed bow hunting deer. He was a member of the High Plains Bass Masters Fishing Club. His time at the lake fishing is where he found the most enjoyment in life. He was dearly loved by his nieces and nephews and was always there to help them in any way he could.

He is survived by his Parents- Jerry &amp; Sue Jones, Brother- Jay &amp; Julie Jones, 3 Sisters- Kim &amp; Brian Meyer, Stephanie &amp; Mike Pittillo and Jennifer &amp; Temo Ramos all of Garden City and his Nieces and Nephews.

Israel Adrain Garcia was born on October 22, 2007 at St. Catherine Hospital.

His parents are Miguel Angel Garcia and Leanna Beth (Claussen) Garcia. He has two brothers Michael James Garcia 17 and Judah Nathaniel Garcia 11. His Grandfather is James Dean Claussen of Deerfield KS, and his grandparents Veda Carolina Garcia and Angel Garcia of Mexico.

Israel was born again of the water in baptism in the name of Jesus and filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues at The Apostolic Church in Garden City, KS. Israel loved God and had a love for the truth. He was always trying to find ways to invite people to church so that they could be saved.

Israel was a lover of the outdoors. He loved going fishing and hunting when he had a chance. He was a dreamer and He dreamed of someday owning his ranch and learning everything he could to achieve his dream. He was a freshman at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, KS. He was a member of the Deerfield FFA Chapter and the Trapshooting team. His favorite subjects in High School were weightlifting and all of his Ag classes. His least favorite was Algebra 1, LOL.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2024, at The Apostolic Church 3102 E Schulman Ave., in Garden City, KS 67846. Betty Jo Oberhelman, age 72, died on April 23, 2024, at Cedar Village Care Center, Ness City. &nbsp;She was born on May 2, 1951, in LaCrosse, Kansas, the daughter of Ronald and Josephine (Dechant) Robinson.

Betty was a member of the Ness City Methodist Church and was the owner of Betty’s Beauty Nook which she operated until her health would not allow. &nbsp;While her children and nephews were in school, she supported them in all of their activities. &nbsp;When the grandchildren came along her attention turned toward them and they became her pride and joy. &nbsp;One picture of each grandchild was not enough for Betty but a photo for every year had to be on display.

On September 18, 1971, she married Gail Oberhelman in Ness City. &nbsp;Together they raised their two children and two nephews in their home in Ness City. &nbsp;He proceeded her in death on December 22, 2022.

Betty is survived by her children, Cetra Horton and her husband, Curtis, of Fort Scott and Chad Oberhelman and his wife, Kristina, of McCracken; two nephews that she and Gail helped raise, Erik Ellis and his wife, Laurel, of LaCrosse and Charlie Ellis of Fort Sill, OK; nine grandchildren, with one on the way; and one great grandchild; and two sisters, Wanda Roehl and her husband, Steve, of Wichita and Nancy Pink of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gail, and her siblings, Eddie, Bud, and John Robinson, Pam Ellis, and Rhonda Robinson.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, 10:00 a.m. at the Ness City Methodist Church followed by burial in the Ness City Cemetery. &nbsp;Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral home on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Ricky Gene “Rick” Blakesley, 64, of Hutchinson, died April 22, 2024, at home surrounded by his family. &nbsp;He was born July 12, 1959, in Russell, to Claude Ray and Margaret Ellen (Boxberger) Blakesley. &nbsp;

Rick graduated from Hays High School in 1978, National College in 1996, and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, in 1980. &nbsp;His work career was quite varied. &nbsp;Rick was a deputy for the Barton County Sheriff’s Department, oilfield worker for B.J. Titan, team member at Arconic (formerly Alcoa), before retiring from Reno County Youth Services and the Reno County Public Works Department.

Rick was a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Lysle Rishel Post #68 and volunteered every year at the National Junior College basketball tournament. &nbsp;He supported the Hutchinson Salthawks, Hutchinson Blue Dragons, and enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas University basketball. &nbsp;In his spare time, he collected coins, worked on old cars, and rode his motorcycle. &nbsp;Above all, Rick loved his family. &nbsp;He was a proud son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother. &nbsp;Rick was always there to support his three children in their school activities, take family vacations, and spoil and tease his six grandchildren. &nbsp;He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson.

On May 18, 1985, he married Lori Michelle Otte, in Great Bend.

Rick is survived by: &nbsp;his wife of almost 39 years, Lori Blakesley of Hutchinson; children, Audree Lynn Blakesley Senestraro (Adrian Joseph) of Lawrence, Emile Michelle Blakesley Frantz (Dylan Jeffrey) of Lubbock, TX, and Tanner Blakesley (Claire Morgan Gee) of Topeka; grandchildren, Maddison and Maia Senestraro, Maddex and Brynley Frantz, and Avery and Eleanor Blakesley; parents, Claude and Margaret Blakesley of Salina; siblings, Ginny Neil (Allan) of Derby, Tina Burtzloff of Salina, and Rodney Blakesley (Barbara) of Urbandale, IA; and his beloved dog, Cosmo.

He was preceded in death by: &nbsp;his grandparents, Ted Boxberger, Leona Price, and Vernon and Delia Blakesley; brother-in-law, Tom Burtzloff; and his beloved four-legged Zoey.

Rodney Allen Thacker, age 62, passed away on April 20, 2024 at the Flagstaff Medical Center in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Rodney was born on February 27, 1962, to his parents Ernest H. and Thelma G. (Wells) Thacker.

He was united in marriage to Michelle (Lehman) Thacker on June 3, 2006.&nbsp;

Rodney is preceded in death by his father Ernest Thacker.

Survivors include his wife Michelle Thacker of Hays, Kansas, son Quinn Buffington of Overland Park, Kansas, daughter Zoe Buffington of Hays, Kansas, Brother Doug Thacker of Casper, Wyoming, sister Carrie Bredemier of Colby, Kansas, and mother Thelma Thacker of Phillipsburg, Kansas.

He was born December 11, 1935 in Jetmore, the son of Connie and Doris Stoskoff Rudzik. &nbsp;A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/stockman.

He was a member of the Jetmore Methodist Church and was a Volunteer for the Jetmore Fire Department.&nbsp;

On May 28, 1955, he married Sharon K. Scothorn in Dighton. &nbsp;She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Scott (Teresa) Rudzik and Lloyd (Amy) Rudzik, both of Jetmore; two daughters, Kathy (Ken) Crawford, Tulsa, OK and Cindy (Alfred) Katt, WaKeeney; brother, Ron Rudzik, Burlington, CO; three sisters, JoAnn Rehmert, Dodge City, Judy Peery and Julene Critchfield, both of Burlington, CO; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren and his dog, Brandi.

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Dolores Jacqueline “Peachie” Schmidt who passed away December 21, 2023, in Hays, KS, at the age of 99 years.

Peachie was born to William and Gladys (Hanyan) Kasner on July 27, 1924, in Panora, Iowa. She went on to graduate from Panora High School in 1940 and then moved to Omaha to attend Telegraphy school. While working for the railroad, she met her husband, Willis “Bill” Schmidt. Peachie and Bill were married in Dorrance on January 23, 1946. After a brief move to California while Bill served in the Navy during WWII, they returned to Dorrance in 1947 to raise their three children.

Peachie leaves behind her children, Timmie Teppe, John (Gale) Schmidt, Debra (Greg) Augustine; 4 grandchildren Scott Teppe, Jennifer (Mark) Bongartz, Crystal Hamel, and Laura (Ryan) Gregoire; and 9 great-grandchildren Tyler, Adam, Gracelynn, Adalynn, Taelynn, Quinlynn, Theodore, Cora-Leigh, and Reinhardt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Hanyan Kasner, Marijon Wall, and Elizabeth Warner.

In her free time, Peachie enjoyed square dancing, sewing, and cooking. She was also an active member of the Dorrance community and First Lutheran Church. Peachie took pride in being a Charter Member of the American Legion Auxiliary #334 in Dorrance and taking part in Auxiliary activities. The greatest joys of Peachie's life were surrounding herself with the people she loved and spending time with Bill.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 10:30AM at the First Lutheran Church in Dorrance, KS.

Karen S. Bogner, 82, died Thursday, April 18, 2024, at her home in Garden City, Kansas. She was born January 5, 1942, in Cimarron, Kansas, the daughter of Charles &amp; Allene (Helsel) Reimer.

Karen grew up on the family farm near Kalvesta, Kansas. She attended Kalvesta schools before attending and graduating from Cimarron High School. Karen then graduated with a business degree from Brown Mackie College in Salina, Kansas. On June 10, 1961, she married Richard J. Bogner in Ingalls, Kansas. They lived in Dodge City before moving to Garden City in 1971, where they have lived since. Karen worked most of her life as a bookkeeper. She worked for the sale barn in Garden City, Buffalo Industries, Continental Energy, and for their family business Bogner Oil Field Service. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Garden City and enjoyed spending her time sewing, gardening, flowers, yard work, dancing, bowling, playing bridge, and going to the casino. She also loved socializing with her friends and spending time with her family especially with her grandchildren.

Survivors include three children Charlene Bigley of Oklahoma City, OK, Jake &amp; wife Sally Bogner of Yukon, OK, &amp; Paul &amp; wife Stephanie Bogner of Garden City, KS; a brother Dean Reimer of Cimarron, KS; five grandchildren Jennifer &amp; husband Brandon Kornele, Tara Jones, Kristen &amp; husband Lance Schwandt, Kimberly &amp; husband Ryan Harp, &amp; Jeffery &amp; wife Josie Bogner; a step-grandson Jason Bigley; eight great-grandchildren Kaden Kornele, Kole Kornele, Kane Kornele, Paityn Jones, Avarie Jones, Blakely Morgan, Madeline Morgan, &amp; Ross Harp; and one step-greatgrandchild Jaylynn Bigley. Memorial services will be held on April 27th at 1PM at the Garnand Funeral Chapel in Lakin, Kansas, 508 N Main St.Joann was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on June 6th, 1924 to Arthur Evans Robertson and Jane (Jennie Lind) Bailey Robertson.

At the age of 9 her family moved to Hulbert, OK when her father became an administrator in the local school district. She graduated first in her high school class at the age of 16. Joann attended Northeastern State College where she graduated in 1945 with a degree in Business Education. She also worked at Camp Gruber Training Base in 1943 during the war effort. Joann took a teaching job in Lakin, KS in 1945 teaching Business Education, Typing and Shorthand. Here she met her future husband Clyde Coder Wiley Jr. They made their home in Lakin with their two children Linda Sue and Rob Conard.

At age 65 Joann retired from the Dept of Social and Rehabilitation Services, moving to Lawrence, KS to be closer to her family.

She became active in the Lawrence community joining multiple clubs including the Lions and Kiwanis, Town and Country Republican Women, the New Horizons Band, and became a Silver Haired Legislator. Joann remained physically active, enjoying bowling and golf into her 90’s. She was an avid supporter of all things Jayhawk.

Joann was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Arthur Evans and Don Alfred as well as her husband Clyde and their son Rob.

Joann is survived by her daughter Linda Wiley Hasler and her three grandsons Robb Ryan and Edmee, Travis Evan and Sami, and Chad Aaron and Heather. She adored her three great grandchildren Kaelum Robb, Henry Howard and Georgia Josephine.

She is also survived by her brother Wade Hampton and Alice, nephews Mark and Bruce, and nieces Melanie, Donna and Nancy. Joann is also survived by her Lakin family the Hayzletts and the Coders.

Sandra Jean “Sandy” Sandy, 68, passed away April 17, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on July 6, 1955, in Nash, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lavene Vadell Cranston. Sandy married Bruce Kilgore; they later divorced. She then married Preston Sandy on April 1, 1996, in Great Bend, Kansas.

A resident of Great Bend since 1993, having grown up in Enid, Oklahoma, and later living in Ellinwood, Sandy worked as a professional bookkeeper for many years at Aaron's Repair. She was the former vice president of Great Bend Desk and Derrick. Sandy enjoyed bowling, softball, crafts, gardening, and collecting. For 30 years, Sandy also had a passion of breeding and raising Scottish Terriers. The families and individuals who bought Scotties from her often became close friends, whom she continued to keep in touch with for years.&nbsp;

Survivors include her husband of the home; step father, Don Cranston of Wichita; children, Chianna Hemken and husband Brent of Larned, Maria Cavender of Great Bend, Kristopher Kilgore of Ellinwood, and Madisen Woodruff and husband Austin of Ellinwood; stepchildren, Billy Sandy of Great Bend, Corey Sandy and husband Josh of Wichita; sister, Sharon Schartz of Houston, Texas; 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her mother, and sister, Shelli Ehret.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 1-8 pm on Friday May 31, 2024, with family receiving guests from 5-7 pm at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held on June 1, 2024, at 10:30 am, with Pastor Troy Miller presiding, at Bryant Funeral Home. Donald Ray Witcher Sr, 77, and Diana Rae Witcher, 76, of Atwood, died Monday, April 15, 2024, as the result of a vehicle accident.

Don was born September 9, 1946, in Murfreesboro, TN, to Frank and Thelma (Miller) Witcher. He graduated from Willow Glen High School in San Jose, CA, in 1964. While in high school he worked at his stepfather Tony DiGiorgio’s auto wrecking business. After graduating he served for nine years as a member of the United States Army Reserves.

Diana was born May 28, 1947, in Oakland, CA, to Jack and Lola (Orman) Cole. She graduated from Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, CA. During high school she met Don, and the couple were married on April 10, 1965, in California.

While Don took a job as a lineman for AT&amp;T, Diana attended beauty school and ran her own shop. After their two children were born, she stayed at home with them. Eventually she returned to work at AT&amp;T. Don climbed the ladder in the telephone industry and worked in management at Pacific Bell before taking a job at Lucent Technology that allowed him to travel the world installing new programs and doing training.

Don loved being a dad, volunteering as a Boy Scout Leader and coaching youth soccer. In his free time, he enjoyed playing golf. One of his favorite things was the 1924 Dodge Brothers Coupe that he had rebuilt.

Diana was very artistic and enjoyed painting, crafts, knitting and crocheting. She loved spending time tending to her flowers and volunteering at the Old Depot in Atwood. She was an accomplished cook and loved trying out new recipes.

Don and Diana were both preceded in death by their parents. They are survived by their children, Diona Witcher and Don Witcher Jr; grandchildren, Cory Cathcart and Brandon Witcher; Don’s brother Robert (Loretta) Witcher and Diana’s siblings, Carol (Matt) Williams and Tommy Cole.

Terence Scott “Terry” Klaus, age 57, of Victoria, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Ellsworth County Medical Center.

He was born April 4, 1967, in Hays, Kansas to Kenneth Klaus and Theresa (Weigel) Klaus.&nbsp; Terry married Peggy (VonFeldt) on February 2, 1991, in Victoria, Kansas.

The most important thing in Terry’s life was his family and spending time with them, always ending every week with a Sunday family supper.&nbsp; Some of his most enjoyable times were watching Disney movies with the grandkids and giving them Ranger rides.&nbsp; He always lived life to the fullest enjoying Golf, BBQing and Cooking, family get-togethers and family vacations.&nbsp; He was so proud of his construction skills and being able to build things for fun or anytime the kids needed something.&nbsp; He had a crazy sense of humor and always made people laugh in his own way.&nbsp;

Terry had a passion for his work and was a proud owner of Top Notch Guttering and Home Improvement and Top Notch Fence Builders.&nbsp; He prided himself on getting to work with both his boys EVERY day and always setting and achieving goals with them and for them.&nbsp; Terry was a very selfless person who would drop anything to help someone out when they needed it.&nbsp; He was a 1986&nbsp;graduate of Victoria High School.&nbsp; He was a member of The Basilica of St. Fidelis, and Knights of Columbus both of Victoria.&nbsp;

Terry is survived by his wife, Peggy Klaus, of the home, his sons, Blake Klaus and wife, Macy, Victoria, KS; Trenton Klaus and wife, Jacy, Victoria, KS; his brother, Jan Vincent Klaus and wife, Josette, Hays, KS; his father-in-law, James “Jim” VonFeldt and wife, Constance, Victoria, KS; his mother-in-law, Charlene Unrein, Gorham, KS; his grandchildren, Hensley Klaus; Brooks Klaus; Reiny Klaus; his brother-in-law, Dave VonFeldt, Victoria, KS; his sister-in-law, Sandy Scheck, Hays, KS; his nieces and nephews, Alyssa Dechant (Josh); Kaley Klaus; Cody Scheck (Mikayla); Lori Schoendaller (Colton); step-brothers and step-sisters-in-law; and step-nieces and step-nephews.

Veronica was born July 28, 1980, in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Micheal and Patricia (Anschutz) Keenan. &nbsp;She was a resident of Lenexa, Kansas, for three years, moving from Easton, Kansas. &nbsp;A 1998 graduate of Larned High School, Larned, Kansas, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Kansas in 2003. &nbsp;She was a medical lab scientist at the University of Kansas Cancer Center, Kansas City, Missouri. &nbsp;

She was a University of Kansas Alum, and a proud associate of the University of Kansas Health System.

Survivors include: &nbsp;her parents, Micheal and Patricia “Pat” Keenan, Larned, Kansas; two brothers, Carl Keenan, Lenexa, Kansas, and Bill Keenan (Kara), Kinsley, Kansas; her niece Sophie Keenan, Kinsley, Kansas; and a close personal friend, Candice Norman, Lawrence, Kansas.

Kathleen A (Rudolph) Moore, age 71, passed away on April 18, 2024 in Scott City, Kansas. She was born November 28, 1952, to Lowell L and Patricia L (Hollingsworth) Rudolph.

Kathleen spent her early life on the family farm northwest of Scott City on Ladder Creek. &nbsp;She attended District 5 Rudolph School, finishing her primary schooling at Beaver Flats School. Kathleen attended and graduated from Scott Community High School. Her advanced schooling consisted of Cosmetology school. She was also a licensed insurance salesperson. As her last major schooling, she earned her certification as a Chiropractic Assistant.

In her younger years, she had three major passions. She loved ballet, beginning as a student of the Bess Taylor School of Dance. Kathleen was accepted to and attended Stephens College Perry Mansfield School and camp for theater and dance in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Following her time there, she studied under Mary Mayta in Colby, Kansas. She eventually taught ballet lessons in Scott City.

Her second passion was dancing. A Saturday night community dance was something she always looked forward to&nbsp;attending.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her third passion was horses. Her favorite horse was a palomino named Champagne, which she would ride to town to participate as a member of the El Quartelejo Saddle Club.&nbsp;

As a homemaker, she was incredibly talented in beautifying her homes, yards, and gardens. &nbsp;Kathleen had the ability to bring forth the beauty nature offered to its fullest extent.

Her husband, Tom Moore of Scott City, Kansas, survives Kathleen. Two daughters- Amy Nodine (Dwayne Byrd) of Brooks, Alberta Canada, and Holly Berland of Scott City, Kansas. Grandchildren: William (Mariah) Nodine of Lethbridge, Alberta Canada, Allyssa (Jordon) Scherger of Brooks, Alberta Canada, Kaitlin Berland of Scott City, Kansas, Anna (Caleb) Beer of Alexander, Manitoba Canada, Coty Ray Neitling of Scott City, Kansas. Great Grandsons: Evan, Devin, Aaron, and Roken.&nbsp;<a></a>Her father, Lowell Rudolph of Scott City, Kansas. &nbsp;One sister, LuAnn (Jon) Buehler of Scott City, Kansas. &nbsp;Along with many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Her mother, Patricia L (Hollingsworth) Rudolph, precedes Kathleen in death.

Following her time there, she studied under Mary Mayta in Colby, Kansas. She eventually taught ballet lessons in Scott City.Her second passion was dancing. A Saturday night community dance was something she always looked forward to&nbsp;attending.&nbsp;&nbsp;Her third passion was horses. Her favorite horse was a palomino named Champagne, which she would ride to town to participate as a member of the El Quartelejo Saddle Club.&nbsp;As a homemaker, she was incredibly talented in beautifying her homes, yards, and gardens. &nbsp;Kathleen had the ability to bring forth the beauty nature offered to its fullest extent.Her husband, Tom Moore of Scott City, Kansas, survives Kathleen. Two daughters- Amy Nodine (Dwayne Byrd) of Brooks, Alberta Canada, and Holly Berland of Scott City, Kansas. Grandchildren: William (Mariah) Nodine of Lethbridge, Alberta Canada, Allyssa (Jordon) Scherger of Brooks, Alberta Canada, Kaitlin Berland of Scott City, Kansas, Anna (Caleb) Beer of Alexander, Manitoba Canada, Coty Ray Neitling of Scott City, Kansas. Kathleen A (Rudolph) Moore

Velma (Rogers) Legleiter, age 91, of McCracken, Kansas., passed away on April 18, 2024, at Country Living in Larned, Kansas.

Velma was born December 30, 1932, to O. S. "Pete" and Alice (Moore) Rogers on the family farm east of McCracken. She was a 1950 graduate of McCracken High School. She married Carl Legleiter on June 8, 1952, in the EUB church in McCracken, Kansas. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. and was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of the McCracken Methodist Church, serving as the Memorial Secretary for several years. Velma also was a Cub Scout leader in McCracken. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 63 years. As a member of the Eastern Star, she served in many different positions. She was the Worthy Matron in 1967. She served as a Grand Representative of Grand Chapter of Kansas and was the secretary for Eastern Star for many years.

Velma was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma. After her children were grown, she entered the work force and worked at the McCracken Post Office. She worked as a receptionist for a doctor’s office in La Crosse and also worked at the Rush County Memorial Hospital.

In her later years, Velma operated a home daycare. She truly cherished this experience. She had a great love for children and small children and babies were always inexplicably drawn to her. While running the daycare, she helped teach and mold the young minds of those for whom she cared while showering them with love and leaving a lasting impression on their young lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chet and Orval Rogers, as well as a great grandson, Jordan LaFond.

Survivors include her husband Carl, a brother, Walter (Janie) Rogers, McCracken, Kansas, two sons Mike (Sharolyn) Legleiter, Hays, Kansas, Roger (Brenda) Legleiter, McCracken, Kansas, a daughter Lynette (Haydn) Buhr, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Six grandchildren: Carla (Brandon) Owen, Brandi (Michael) LaFond, Lance (Rachel) Legleiter, Lee (Sarah) Legleiter, Lisa Legleiter, and Brian Legleiter, as well as nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, April 22, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 8:00 A.M. to 8:50 A.M. at McCracken Methodist Church, McCracken, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at 9:00 A.M. at McCracken Methodist Church, McCracken, Kansas, with Pastor Norma McNair officiating. Interment will be in the McCracken City Cemetery, McCracken, Kansas.

John M. Willem III, 79, Hays, died Friday, April 19, 2024 at his home.

He was born March 9, 1945 in Barrington, Illinois, the son of John M. Jr. and Lois (Hedrick) Willem. John graduated from high school in New York and served in the U.S. Navy. On July 31, 1999 he was united in marriage to Charlene A. Werth in Hill City and they celebrated nearly 25 years of marriage. He was a city bus driver in Denver, Colorado, and following retirement, he worked part-time hauling grain for local farmers. John enjoyed train museums and working on G Scale electric trains.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene of Hays, his children, April Willem and Angel Cook and husband Tom, all of Aurora, CO, Michael Bollig and wife Staci of Salina, Sean Bollig of Topeka, and Melissa Riconti of Ellis, two sisters, Ann Martin of Essex, CT and Wendy Cummins of Pound Ridge, NY, a brother-in-law, Terrence Werth and wife Patricia of Bradshaw, NE, fourteen grandchildren, Tiffany, Casey, and Kendra Dalton, Candace Bollig, Brandon Bollig and wife Christen, Brittany Bollig, Carter Bollig, Kelli VanLoenen and husband Taylor, Kaitlynn Boxum and husband Colton, Kole, Kyler, and Kayla Roberts, Benjamin and Emily Upton, six great grandchildren, and his best friend, Moon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sue Martinson, and two brothers-in-law, Jim Martin and Richard Cummins.

Michael Edward Wilson, 67, died April 18, 2024, at Clara Barton Hospital, after a hard-fought battle with COPD. &nbsp;He was born November 18, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Jack and Sherry (Mayberry) Wilson. &nbsp;Michael worked as a welder most of his life and later worked for the Larned State Hospital as a MHDD.

On July 5, 1989, he married Dixie Schwinn. She survives. Other survivors include; sons, Cody Wigren of the home, Eddie Joe Wilson of North Salt Lake City, Utah; daughter Jamie Marie (Charlie) Maybe of West Bountiful, Utah; step-daughters, Amy Wigren of Great Bend, Misty Rigby (Harley Bramer) of Newton, Kerri (Brandon) Maxwell of Hoisington, Amanda Rigby of Great Bend; sister, Debbie Allen of Bountiful, Utah; grandchildren; Pearl, Sammie, Uriah, Tayvin, Morgan, and Kyra; and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Joe Wilson, D.J. Wilson, and Keith Murphy, and a step-daughter, Kelli Lee Kaler.

Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family service at a later date.

Jose D. Mendoza Borunda, died April 18, 2023 at St Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born October 16, 1964 in Satevo, Chihuahua, Mexico the son of Jesus and Ignacia (Borunda) Mendoza.

It was there that he met and later married Rafaela Alvarez Chacon. She survives. They came to Garden City in the spring of 1989 and started a family. He was a dedicated, hardworking family man. He enjoyed the 35 years of employment at Tyson and was still thinking of work even when he was on vacation. Outside of work he could be found tending to his gardens and often shared the harvest with friends and neighbors. This giving spirit is one of the things for which he will be remembered. He lovingly built a home for his wife, sons, daughter-in-law, grandchildren family and friends to gather for food and make memories. It was his final labor of love and legacy.
