Surrounded by family members singing her favorite hymn, Phyllis JoAn Fink Wilson, a “Super-Duper” wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, began her new life on May 1, 2024, at age 92.

Born to Clinton and Dora Fink on December 1, 1931 in Quinter, Kansas, JoAn graduated from the University of Kansas where she met her future husband, Richard “Dick” Wilson, in a dance class.&nbsp; JoAn and Dick were married for 54 years and had three children:&nbsp; Rick, Steve and Trish - all of whom learned to jitterbug.&nbsp; Their legacy includes two daughters-in-law, a son-in-law, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren (and counting!).

Family and faith were JoAn’s passions. &nbsp;She was a devoted homemaker who supported her children in all their activities, serving on school PTAs and working various jobs to help pay for her kids’ college.&nbsp; As her family expanded she hosted grandkids for vacations and sleepovers and traveled to help out as needed, generating a whole lot of lifelong memories along the way. &nbsp;She passed on her love of family by sharing stories of growing up in western Kansas and compiling an extensive genealogy of both the Fink and Treu families that included her 12 aunts and uncles and 25 first cousins.

JoAn attended church her entire life and developed a deep appreciation and knowledge of Scripture. &nbsp;She taught Bible studies at every church she attended as an adult in Albany NY, Palatine, IL, Indianapolis, IN and Lawrence, KS. &nbsp;Her faith was very personal &nbsp;and she recounted vivid visualizations of meeting with Jesus that provided comfort and strength throughout the ups and downs of life.

JoAn is reunited in heaven with her husband, daughter, and grandson, Rudy, along with her parents, brother, all those aunts and uncles, many cousins and dear friends who passed before her. &nbsp;She leaves those still living who knew and loved her with wonderful memories and the great hope of a future reunion in the presence of her Lord.

A memorial service is being scheduled at First Baptist Church in Lawrence, Kansas, with inurnment to follow at the Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter, Kansas. &nbsp;In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Lawrence, KS, or the Santa Barbara Rescue Mission in Santa Barbara, CA and may be sent in care of Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, P.O. Delora Verlee Teasley, of Stockton, Kansas, passed away on May 9, 2024, at Solomon Valley Manor in Stockton, at the age of 96. She was born on April 21, 1928, to Forrest J. and Zeta (Desbien) Stull. She married Paul Iven Nyp on August 18, 1947 in Palco, Kansas. He passed away in 1950. She later married Harold “Dwight Teasley on November 20, 1952 in Palco, Kansas. He passed away in 1991.

Delora grew up in Palco. She graduated from Palco High School. She later graduated from Emporia Beauty School.

Delora worked at the Plainville Hospital for 26 years.

Delora is survived by her children, Roland (Irene) Nyp, Stockton, Pam (Rob) Eledge, Omaha, NE; sister, Karen Bell, Stockton; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Margie Roberts and son, Rodric Dean Nyp.

A graveside service will be held on Monday May 13, 2024, at 11:00 am, at Pleasantview Cemetery in Palco, Kansas. There will be no visitation.

Carl John Zollman was born on November 26, 1931 in Phillipsburg, Kansas to Karl Zollmann and Barbara Elizabeth Walkmann Zollmann. &nbsp;He was baptized and received full membership in the Christian faith at the Lutheran Church in Stuttgart, Kansas. &nbsp;Carl married Delores Mae Nyland July 15, 1952 at the Reformed Church in Prairie View, Kansas, and to this union three daughters were born: &nbsp;Peggy, Connie, and Carla.

Carl attended Phillips County Public Schools where he graduated in the year 1949. &nbsp;He farmed during high school to help his dad. &nbsp;During High School, he played football and met his future wife, Delores, at a carnival. &nbsp;After their marriage, they made their home in rural Phillips County. &nbsp;He continued to work on the farm and eventually accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture (ASCS). &nbsp;He began as a clerk in the soil conservation service in October, 1956. &nbsp;He transferred to the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation and Service where he served in different positions. &nbsp;He retired as director from the ASCS office when he reached the age of 55 and 30 years of service. &nbsp;He worked part time for Rain and Hail Insurance for twelve years. &nbsp;He is also remembered for giving a helping hand to neighbors combining wheat during the harvest season.

Carl was an active member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Stuttgart where he served in several positions. &nbsp;He served on the Legacy Committee for Phillipsburg County Economic Development.

Carl and Delores enjoyed taking dance classes and going to dances with friends. &nbsp;They enjoyed traveling and playing cards with friends and family. &nbsp;Carl never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. &nbsp;He is remembered by family and friends for giving great advice and the best hugs.

Carl is survived by his three daughters Peggy (Howard) King of Phillipsburg, Kansas, Connie (Steve) Henderson of Ankeny, Iowa, Carla (Jim) Maneth of Great Bend, Kansas, seven grandchildren; Hadley (Abby) Henderson of Webster City, Iowa, Justin (Erin) King of Overland Park, Kansas, Stephenie (Chris) Johnson of Moorhead, Iowa, Aaron (Jenna) Andrews of Great Bend, Kansas, Jordan (Vanessa Mora - fiancé) King of Austin, Texas, Nathan (Tracey) Andrews of Ellis, Kansas, and Trevor (Michel) Maneth of Gardner, Kansas; fourteen great grandchildren Collin Bailey, Caleb King, Grayson Henderson, Landon Johnson, Nora Andrews, Everett Henderson, Logan King, Lydiah Johnson, Pyper Maneth, Ella King, Ryker Maneth, Presley Henderson, Carter Andrews, and Creed Andrews. &nbsp;He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Larry Nyland and wife, Sharon, and sister-in-law Wanda Schneider, and husband Wayne. &nbsp;There are several nieces and nephews also surviving. &nbsp;He was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, father and mother; Karl and Elizabeth (Barbara) Zollman, father and mother-in-law; Ray and Angeline Nyland, sister and brother-in-law; Rex and Martha Kellogg.

Funeral services will be 4:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2024 in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee Bennight officiating. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Stuttgart.

Mr. Zollman will lie in state from noon until 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.

Steven Scott Schwindt, age 69, passed away on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at his home in Leoti, Kansas.

He was born on May 23rd, 1954, to Ruby &amp; LeRoy Ford Schwindt. He grew up in the Leoti Community.

Steve was a wonderful person. If you were his friend, you knew it. He loved his children, April and Alicia. He loved his family; blood or not. He busied himself with farming, Trucking, and being a friend to a special few. He lived life to the fullest doing anything and everything that he wanted to do. Many stories involved friends and family. Each one was a true adventure. Even in the second grade, he was the only one to ride a dirt bike to school. He lived his Dash (life) to the fullest. He found out early on that his life of being an adventure took a toll on his body. He loved his dogs very much; Meathead, Bud, and Spook. He oftentimes would feed them better than himself.

Steve is survived by his siblings, Bill &amp; Kathy Schwindt of Black Forrest, Colorado, Dorthy Lorenz &amp; Joe Sandoval of Willis, Texas, Denise Davis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Shelley Ferre Dussel of Gainsville, Florida, his daughters; April &amp; Shaun Moore of Kansas City, Missouri, Alicia Schwindt of Lawrence, Kansas, his grandchildren; Kinsley, Everly, Devin, and Dante, his great-grandchildren; Benjamin, and LayKin, and his friends; Glenda &amp; Mike Craven of Leoti, Kansas.

Agnes I. Leiker, 96, of Hays, Kansas died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living, Hays, KS. She was born April 15, 1928, in Walker, KS to John and Catherine (Scheck) Riedel. She married Alvin Leiker on September 3, 1947, in Walker, KS. He preceded her in death on November 27, 2007.

She was a retired homemaker who loved her family and her faith more than anything. She enjoyed family game time, playing cards and baking cookies with the grandkids. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and an 80-year member of the Daughters of Isabella.

Survivors include her son, Allen Leiker and wife, Nancy of Summerfield FL; four daughters, Peggy Dinkel, Mary Mellick and husband Ron, and Betty Wolf, all of Hays, and Linda Kepka and husband Mike of Dorrance KS; 16 grandchildren; 3 step- grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great grandchildren;8 great-great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Josie Braun, Victoria; sisters-in- law, Lidwina Ruder, Marilyn Riedel, Zita Riedel, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Billy Carrol Peterson, Sr after a 28 year battle of Parkinson’s Disease, got to talk clearly, laugh freely, and walk easily without pain as he met his Lord and Savior on May 7, 2024.

Bill Peterson was born on June 15, 1948 in Alton, Kansas to Carol and Marie Peterson. He grew up as a farmer’s boy spending time at the creek, swimming and fishing. Not being much into sports, he delved into hunting and fishing very young and had a love of the outdoors. He passed these loves onto his children and grandchildren later on.

He attended a rural Alton elementary school, then later Alton Elementary and graduated from Alton High School in 1966. He then graduated from Beloit Vo-tech for Auto Mechanics. One year later, he enrolled in Barclay College in Haviland, Kansas where he quickly met the love of his life, Virginia Carol Arnett. It was love at first sight.

Bill and Virginia were married November 9, 1968 at Pratt Friends Church. They lived in Haviland for three months, before Bill was drafted and served in the Vietnam war in the U.S Army from April 1969 to December 1970.

After being discharged from the Army, they lived in Russell, Kansas where Bill worked as an auto mechanic and ran a wrecker service at night. In 1971, their son, Billy, was born. After moving to Alton in 1973, Bill worked at GT as a Jig builder and then Midway Co-op. In 1977, they welcomed their twin daughters, Carissa and Larissa. After building post rock fence during the day and farming every night for several years, he finally got his dream to be a full time farmer/rancher. To this day, some of the post rock Bill built still stands in Russell County.

Bill loved animals and they loved him. Even his bull would come up to his pick up to be pet. It was a very hard day when Bill had to sell his cattle and pursue other jobs to support his family. He worked at the ASCS office and farm services. He worked at Farm Bureau as a crop adjuster where he traveled all over the state. Everywhere he went, he took the opportunity to share his testimony with other farmers. Due to declining health from his Parkinson’s Disease, he was forced to quit the job he loved, but Bill still continued to farm wheat and milo. His determination and work ethic kept him going in spite of all his complications. He pursued and enjoyed many hobbies of woodworking, machining, welding, gunsmithing, reloading. The list goes on. He was a very gifted and wise man.

Bill loved his family and was proud to be a Papa and a Great Grandpa. He always made sure they all knew he loved them. He prayed for his family every day. He enjoyed reading scripture and weekly bible studies with his son even when his eyesight failed him. He loved Jesus dearly. When asked what he’d want people to know about him, he said, “God was my strength.”

Bill was preceded in death by his grandparents, Loyd and Mildred Peterson and his parents, Carol and Marie Peterson. He is survived by two brothers, Ron and JoAnn Peterson, Dennis Peterson and Sandy; his wife, Virginia Peterson; their kids, son Billy and Julie Peterson, daughter Carissa and Ryan Staley, daughter Larissa and Matthew Lies; grandchildren Anna, Xandalia, Dillon, Elijah, Madilyn, Ean, and Ethan; great grandchildren, Evelyn, Emmy, and Solomon.

He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed in this world.

Billy Carrol Peterson, Sr after a 28 year battle of Parkinson’s Disease, got to talk clearly, laugh freely, and walk easily without pain as he met his Lord and Savior on May 7, 2024.Bill Peterson was born on June 15, 1948 in Alton, Kansas to Carol and Marie Peterson. He grew up as a farmer’s boy spending time at the creek, swimming and fishing. Not being much into sports, he delved into hunting and fishing very young and had a love of the outdoors. He passed these loves onto his children and grandchildren later on.He attended a rural Alton elementary school, then later Alton Elementary and graduated from Alton High School in 1966. He then graduated from Beloit Vo-tech for Auto Mechanics. One year later, he enrolled in Barclay College in Haviland, Kansas where he quickly met the love of his life, Virginia Carol Arnett. Billy Carrol Peterson, Sr.

Eileen Belle Bayer, 95, passed away peacefully May 8, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on May 6, 1929, in Lyons, Kansas, to Ernest and Margaret Maye (Bolton) Irvin. Eileen grew up and graduated from Lyons High School.

Eileen fell in love and married Donald Bayer on April 10,1949, and later welcomed a son, Gregory Bayer. They moved to the farm in Pawnee Rock, Kansas where she became a dedicated farmer’s wife; helping with harvest, meals, and any chores needing to be completed. During her more active years, Eileen enjoyed playing the violin and French horn in high school, singing in the church choir, and following Greg in his sports and musical activities. Never having idle hands, Eileen enjoyed cooking, crocheting, jig saw puzzles, and could often be found volunteering at CKMC gift shop. She was a faithful servant and attended United Church of Christ for many years. &nbsp;Donald preceded her in death on November 2, 1998.&nbsp;

Survivors include son; Gregory Bayer of Pawnee Rock.

She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, brother; Claude Irvin, sister; Vera Burfied, sister; Erma Shoopman, and sister; Norma Koch.

Eileen Belle Bayer

Rosa Burroughs, 86, passed away May 9, 2024, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, Kansas. She was born on August 10, 1937, in Devine, Texas, to Juan and Maria (Munoz) Guajardo. On November 18, 1958, she married Everett Burroughs in Somerset, Texas. He passed on July 6, 1994.

Since coming from Texas in 1959, Rosa was a Kansas resident, having lived in Hutchinson, Ellinwood, and Lindsborg, with most of her time in Great Bend. She was a homemaker, taking care of her and other’s children. Rosa loved people, baking, sewing, and attending craft shows with her husband.

Survivors include son, Everett Burroughs, Jr. and significant other Tracy Templeton of Great Bend; four daughters, Peggy Yahne and husband Bruce of Lindsborg, Mary Burroughs and significant other Clark Feaster of Syracuse, Teresa Alston of Great Bend, and Angella Guajardo and wife Tonia of Avon, Indiana; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren with one on the way; two great great grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Salvador Guajardo and wife Mary of Greeley, Colorado; three sisters, Margaret Evans of Devine, Texas, Lucy Ramirez of Waverly, Iowa, and Virginia Loera of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Teresa and Rita Guajardo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two grandchildren, Amanda Wheeler and Nicholas Curtice; six brothers, Juan, Jose, Cruz, Samuel, Daniel, and Antonio Guajardo; sister, Esther Deer; and son-in-law, Terry Wheeler.

Joyce JoAnn Hartzog, 83, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024 at Colwich Gardens Assisted Living Facility. This is where she resided for the past two years with her husband C.R. Bob Hartzog and son Kyle.

Joyce was born on June 26, 1940 to Ray and Esther (Olson) Carlson in Oberlin, Kansas. She was raised in Oberlin and graduated from the class of 1958 from Decatur Community High School. Joyce married Bob Hartzog on December 28, 1958 in Oberlin, Kansas. They have been happily married for a wonderful 65 years.

Joyce loved helping people and working in customer service starting with her working as a para at Oberlin Elementary School. Later, she went on to work at Farmers National Bank for many years. Joyce had a passion for people. She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She exemplified the true meaning of compassion and caring. Over the years she was the caretaker for many family members and loved ones. Her church family and friends could always count on her for her gift of hospitality. Her faith in the Lord was unyielding. Church was the center of the family and all gatherings. Some of her favorite memories would be spending time with family making homemade ice cream and dinners after church each Sunday.

Joyce was a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be missed greatly by many.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Esther Carlson and brother Ronald Carlson. She is survived by husband: Bob Hartzog; children: Cheryl Hartzog, Kyle Hartzog, and Clifton (Annette) Hartzog, all of Wichita, KS; grandchildren: McKenzie Hartzog and Alexis (David) Gauntt; great grandchildren: Callan Gauntt and Emilia Gauntt.

Kaen Thammavongsa joined his wife Chanxay Thammavongsa to the kingdom of Heaven on May 8, 2024, in Garden City, Kansas. He was surrounded by all his children and loved ones at St Catherine’s Hospital. He was born on May 1, 1943 at Ban Lakhin, Laos the son of Phay and Say Thammavongsa.

He immigrated with his family to the United States where they settled in Garden City Kansas in 1990. He recently celebrated his 81st Birthday with his children, grandchildren, and close friends. It cannot be overstated how much Kaen loved to hunt, fish, with the company of his children, grandchildren, and his close friends. While he enjoyed fishing all over Kansas, his favorite fishing spot was in Norton, Kansas, and you could often see him there every other weekend. Outside of his hobbies, Kaen took great joy from his grandchildren. He was an extremely doting grandfather doing everything he could for them and no ask from them was ever too great.

Kaen is survived by his son Jason (Manee Rattanaworanan) Thammavongsa, and his 4 daughters Noy Thammavongsa, Phon (Levi) Huber, Lamon (Leo) Bojorquez, Andi Thammavongsa, and 13 grandchildren.

James Allen Kerns, 74, died Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at his home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born November 4, 1949, in Oregon, the son of Robert &amp; Mary (Newman) Kerns.

He worked in construction for several years before working in car sales and also worked for many years as a body repairman for Peterbilt of Garden City. He enjoyed spending his time fishing, car racing, NASCAR, and loved the game of football where he was an avid fan of the Denver Broncos. He also loved the Colorado mountains especially Rainbow Falls.

Survivors include three siblings Jacqueline Ming of San Diego, California, Mark Ming and Mike Ming; and four nieces and nephews Michael Smith and Christina Smith both from San Diego, California, and George Ming III &amp; wife Tessa and Lynell Drown &amp; husband Derek both from Amarillo, Texas.

Wilfrid A. “Hoop” Higgins, age 97, died on May 9, 2024, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on August 30, 1926, on the family farm Southwest of McCracken, Kansas the son of Leo and Teresa (Coleman) Higgins. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Hoop graduated from McCracken High School and then joined the United States Army Air Corp. Hoop and Twila were married in Kansas City, 75 years ago on March 29, 1949. &nbsp;Together, they raised cattle, wheat and their 4 children in McCracken, Kansas.&nbsp;Hoop was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 2970. &nbsp;He was an active member of West Birch American Legion Post 59, McCracken. &nbsp;Hoop was an avid golfer and loved all sports.&nbsp;

He is survived by his wife, Twila; his three sons, Doug and his wife, Mary, of Lyons, Rich and his wife, Mary Lou, of Lakin, and Larry and his wife, Melody, of Riverton, Wyoming; his daughter, Nancy Wiebe and her husband, Mike, of Blue Springs, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren with on one the way; and 2 great great grandchildren. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Vincent, Leon “Pad”, James, and Victor; his sister Angela Higgins, infant daughter, infant granddaughter, and infant great granddaughter.&nbsp;

Viewing will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, McCracken on Sunday, May 12 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. when the Rosary will begin. Mass of Christian burial will be at the church on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. followed by burial in the St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Hoop and Twila were married in Kansas City, 75 years ago on March 29, 1949. &nbsp;Together, they raised cattle, wheat and their 4 children in McCracken, Kansas.&nbsp;Hoop was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 2970. &nbsp;He was an active member of West Birch American Legion Post 59, McCracken. &nbsp;Hoop was an avid golfer and loved all sports.&nbsp;He is survived by his wife, Twila; his three sons, Doug and his wife, Mary, of Lyons, Rich and his wife, Mary Lou, of Lakin, and Larry and his wife, Melody, of Riverton, Wyoming; his daughter, Nancy Wiebe and her husband, Mike, of Blue Springs, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren with on one the way; and 2 great great grandchildren. &nbsp;He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Vincent, Leon “Pad”, James, and Victor; his sister Angela Higgins, infant daughter, infant granddaughter, and infant great granddaughter.&nbsp;Viewing will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, McCracken on Sunday, May 12 from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. when the Rosary will begin. Bernadette “Betty” Schmidt, 94, of Hays, Kansas died in her home on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.&nbsp;

The daughter of Leonard and Mathilda (Depperschmidt) Schmidt, she was born on April 12, 1930 on the family farm west of Liebenthal, Kansas.&nbsp; Betty graduated from Schoenchen High School in 1948 and on November 5, 1951, she married Aloysius “Winnie” Schmidt at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse, Kansas. They were married 66 years before he proceeded her in death on January 20, 2017.

She was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church and the Church Ladies Guild as well as the Daughters of Isabella. &nbsp;She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Auxiliary. &nbsp;She worked at Travenol for 14 years and provided meal preparations for funeral dinners at St. Nicholas Church. &nbsp;While often helping take care of sick family members, she delivered Meals on Wheels for several years.

Betty kept busy with her many hobbies: sewing, cooking, gardening, and tending to her large collection of flowers. &nbsp;Her latest hobby, embroidery, provided many relatives with complete sets of tea towels. &nbsp;Spending time with her family was her favorite pastime and her cooking skills always ensured no one would go hungry.

She was preceded in death by her husband Winnie, her parents, and an infant brother Elmer. &nbsp;Survivors include: Daughters Cindy Schmidt (partner Fulton Calvery) of Park City and Ruth Legleiter (partner Erik Eaton) of Hays, and a son Dale Schmidt of Hays. Calling her ‘Grandma’ were three grandchildren:&nbsp; Ben Jacobs (Julie Ann) of Ellinwood, Breana O’Gara (Chad) of Gardner, and Brent Legleiter (partner Holly Newell) of Hays. She had seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Other family survivors include a sister Dorothy McDermeit of Salina and a brother John Schmidt (Judy) of Pueblo, CO.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2024 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Father Damian Richards officiating. Michael Glenn Goodman, 67, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas. He was born on June 20, 1956, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Harold and Betty (Moore) Goodman.&nbsp;

Michael was a 1974 graduate of St. John High School, after which he served the county in the United States Navy. He then worked as a welder at Great Bend Manufacturing, before moving on to a lumber yard in Colorado, working for Haven Steel in Haven, Kansas, and then at Tyson in Hutchinson. He was a member of VFW Post 180 and enjoyed hunting

Survivors include son, Jason Goodman and wife Sherrie of Flemington, New Jersey; two grandsons, Zachery and Aiden Goodman; and two sisters, Connie Kirby of Sterling and Carla Barnes of Hutchinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Larry and Earl Goodman.

Graveside service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Michael Munz presiding. Memorials have been designated to Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

Harold Dean Gabel, age 90, died on May 7, 2024, at the Ness County Hospital, Ness City, Kansas. &nbsp;He was born on July 25, 1933, in Ness City, the son of Alex and Odella (Pfannenstiel) Gabel. &nbsp;

Harold attended Ness City High School, before serving in the United States Army. He married Frances Leterle on October 8, 1956, in Ness City.&nbsp;

Upon completion of his duties with the United States Army, Harold and Frances returned to Ness City where they raised their five children and operated the family businesses, Home Oil and the Dairy Bar, in Ness City. &nbsp;Harold was well known around the county for delivering ice, which was stored in large blocks in the icehouse beside Home Oil, milk, gasoline, diesel, and propane. &nbsp;When he wasn’t working Harold could be found coaching baseball or relaxing with his friends at the station. &nbsp;He was also a devote member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Harold is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Penny Jones and her husband, Doug, sons, Alex and his wife, Wanda, Kevin and his wife, Shelly, Richard, and Jeff and his wife, Jolene, all of Ness City; his sister, Melody Kay Heizer of Wichita; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Leona Dinges and Florence Kerr and brother, Alex “Jr” Gabel.

A rosary will be recited on Saturday, May 11, 2024, 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. &nbsp;Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Viewing will be held at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City, on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. and again from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Survivors include two sons: &nbsp;Dustin (and Christel) Furrey of Platte City, Missouri and Ben (and Ann) Koehn of Mound Ridge, Kansas; one daughter Kelli M. (and Michael) Wintholz of Hoisington, Kansas; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother Doug (and Terry) Furrey of Longview, Washington and two sisters: &nbsp;Lisa (and Herb) Phillips and Phyllis McCormick, all of Great Bend; nieces and nephews. Lyndon Joel “LJ” Cosgriff-Flax, 22, of Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024 while carrying out his duties at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown, Virginia.

He was born August 4, 2001, in Hays, Kansas to Corey Flax and Stephanie Cosgriff. He was baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays. He called many cities in Kansas home in his youth, with his deepest roots in Hays and Lawrence

Throughout his formative years, LJ enjoyed a considerable amount of time in Lawrence with his mother and brothers. He spent his primary school years in St. George where he explored the woods around his home by playing, searching for mushrooms, and shooting his Daisy BB gun and Marlin 22 rifle. He loved reading books and singing in the school choir. After school he could often be found atop his wooden playset reading. Later in his grade school years he began playing the clarinet. He attended mass and religious education classes at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego, where he received the sacraments of Eucharist and reconciliation. After St. George, he relocated to Russell where his interests began to center around sports. He competed in football, basketball, wrestling, and track while continuing to play in the band and hone his musical skills. He attended mass at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church where he also attended religious education and was active in the youth ministry. His secondary school years were spent in Goddard where he attended and graduated from Eisenhower High School. He continued to engage in sports, excelling in football, wrestling, and track. He attended mass at Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit where he received the sacrament of confirmation. During his time at Eisenhower High School, he was able to take elective classes in law enforcement where his interest in criminal justice and law enforcement was sparked. He was a bright student and his academic efforts earned him the Presidential Award of Distinction at Fort Hays State University and his wrestling skills earned him an athletic scholarship. He attended school there for two years before joining the United States Navy where he held the title of Master-at-Arms and rank of petty officer third class. While in the Navy, he began a relationship with Lily Washburn. They met in A-school in San Antonio, Texas for duty training in 2021. Their love for each other began to take root and blossom when they were stationed in close proximity, LJ stationed at Yorktown, Virginia and Lily at Norfolk, Virginia.

LJ was a kind, loyal, hard-working, humble person with a love of the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Many memories of hunting doves, waterfowl, deer, and turkey as well as gigging frogs and fishing were made with his father, brothers, uncles, cousins, and friends. LJ was especially fond of turkey hunting, and he spent many spring days doing so with his father. He also loved video gaming and shared that passion with his brothers Keelan and Riley. The three enjoyed many traveling adventures with their mother and loved exploring Mass Street in Lawrence with her where they discovered several local restaurants they frequented together.

LJ had a deep sense of loyalty towards his family. He loved and cared deeply for them. He was kind and compassionate, with a gift for bringing levity to situations with his unique sense of humor. LJ will be remembered for many things, but what people will remember most was that he had a huge heart and sought out opportunities to help others.

He is survived by his mother, Stephanie Cosgriff, brothers, Riley Paradise and Keelan Monye, his father and stepmother, Corey and Lynn Flax, brother, Samuel Flax, sister, Margaret Flax, his grandmother, Sandy Guthrie, his grandmother, Judy Flax, his grandfather, Stephen Cosgriff, and his step-grandparents John and Linda Wink.

LJ was preceded in death by his grandfather Eugene Flax.

He will be loved and tremendously missed by his family and all who were blessed to have known him.

Lyndon Joel “LJ” Cosgriff-Flax

Coy Wendell Adams, age 37, passed away May 2, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born on March 22, 1987, in Johnson, Kansas, the son of Troy Lynn and Cheryl Ann (Josserand) Adams. Coy was named after his two grandfathers, Coy Wayne Adams and Oliver Wendell Josserand.

Coy grew up in Johnson and graduated from Stanton County High School. Coy was adventurous and talented from a young age. In his childhood years, he was a member of 4-H, a church praise band, and a self-taught drummer. When time permitted, he worked on the family farm. He attended Kansas State University for two years with music as his choice of study. He was a member of the concert band, jazz band, and KSU marching band in which he played the cymbals and snare drum. During his time in Manhattan, he was also the percussionist of a recreational band that often played shows in Aggieville. While attending college he began his trade in landscaping for Blueville Landscape and Nursery in Manhattan. He took pride in his work and quickly became a master tradesman. Coy married his high school sweetheart, Megan Renee Ainsworth on April 28, 2012, in Johnson. They resided in Junction City Kansas, for the next six years before deciding to take their love for the outdoors to Colorado. As an avid outdoorsman, Coy enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. Often bringing along their beloved Australian Shepherds, Sydney and Jessi. His favorite place was in the mountains.

He will be remembered for being a humble and caring person.

Coy is survived by his wife, Megan, of the home; parents, Troy and Cheryl Adams of Johnson; brother, Tyson Adams and wife, Mandy, of Johnson; sister, Ashley Heatherman and husband, Joe, of Satanta; grandmother, Martha Adams of Johnson; four nieces and one nephew; parents-in-law, Kent and Beverly Ainsworth of Johnson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Coy Wendell Adams, age 37, passed away May 2, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born on March 22, 1987, in Johnson, Kansas, the son of Troy Lynn and Cheryl Ann (Josserand) Adams. Coy was named after his two grandfathers, Coy Wayne Adams and Oliver Wendell Josserand.Coy grew up in Johnson and graduated from Stanton County High School. Coy was adventurous and talented from a young age. In his childhood years, he was a member of 4-H, a church praise band, and a self-taught drummer. When time permitted, he worked on the family farm. He attended Kansas State University for two years with music as his choice of study. He was a member of the concert band, jazz band, and KSU marching band in which he played the cymbals and snare drum. During his time in Manhattan, he was also the percussionist of a recreational band that often played shows in Aggieville. Norman D. Blehm, now resting peacefully, lived a wonderful life of 92 years. He died Monday, May 6, 2024, at home at Western Prairie Assisted Living in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born November 14, 1931, in Galatia, Kansas, the son of Ruben and Edna (Ochs) Blehm.

Norman married Diane Scranton on February 19, 1950, in Ulysses, Kansas. He was a farmer, avid sports fan, fisherman and swimmer. He swam laps almost every day of his life and was still swimming up to his 90th birthday. His family has many fond memories of their time together. Many of those memories include fishing trips to Lake Texhoma and listening to his stories. Norman was a very gifted farmer and had the ability to fix anything that was broken or not working. He was a great cook…everyone loved his frequent fish fries. He loved his family through his generous actions of service and care. He drove his wife and daughter all over the state to watch his grandkids ball games…never missed one.

Norman is survived by his daughter, Debbie Bell of Ulysses; two grandsons, Brett Bell and Brady Bell; and eight great-grandchildren.

Norman is preceded in death by his wife, Diane; son, Duane; parents, brother, Robert Blehm; and sister, Lois Cheek and husband, Gerald.

Traci was born July 21, 1982, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Gerald J. and Cindy M. (Stricker) Herrman. She was a resident of Hays, Kansas, for five years, moving there from La Crosse, Kanas. A 2000 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, Traci was employed for many years as a data clerk in accounting departments for two different industries.

Survivors include: her daughter, Madisen Brenden, Hays, Kansas; her parents, Gerald and Cindy Herrman, Liebenthal, Kansas; her brother, Jesse Herrman (Katie), Lyons, Kansas; her nephew and niece, Zachary Herrman, and Adelynn Herrman, Lyons, Kansas; five aunts, Susan Stricker, Great Bend, Kansas, Patty Vavricek, Atlantic, Iowa, Brenda Bendure, Great Bend, Kansas, Kathryn Jonas (Kevin), Hoisington, Kansas, and Connie Stewart, La Crosse, Kansas; two uncles, J. R. Herrman (Sandy), La Crosse, Kansas, and Kenny Herrman (Kathy), Liebenthal, Kansas; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Everett and Margaret Stricker; her paternal grandparents, Elmer and Delores Herrman; and her aunt, Karen Williams.

Michael "Mike" Dean Hines, of Hays, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the age of 67.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike was born on January 26, 1957. He was the oldest son of Daniel J. and Helen (Arnhold) Hines Jr. On October 9, 1981, he married JoLynne Younger. They raised their three children together, and later separated.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike was a long time resident of Hays, KS.&nbsp; He had a passion for hunting and fishing. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed tending to his garden. He worked as an equipment operator for Fleenor Dirt Construction and hauled oil rigs for Discovery Drilling.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Mike is survived by his two sons, Clayton Hines of Ellinwood; and Corey Hines (Kye Werth) of Hays; one daughter, Cally Hines of McPherson; three brothers, Rick Hines of Colorado; Jerry (Maria) Hines of Wichita; and Danny Hines of Hutchinson; his seven grandchildren, Brayden (Katie Gottschalk); Myles; Desiree; McKeena; Brody; Chevelle; and Koell; one great grandchild, Elsie; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
