Richard Dean (Rick) Anderson, age 68, of Hays, Kansas, formerly of Medicine Lodge, Kansas, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at Hays Medical Center.

Rick was born at Community General Hospital, Sterling, Illinois, on November 10, 1955, the first born of Zane and Joyce (Knight) Anderson. Rick grew up in Rock Falls, Illinois, attending Rock Falls schools and graduating in 1974 from Rock Falls High School. He married Amy Lynn (Songer) Anderson on February 5, 1977, at the First Presbyterian Church, Sterling, Illinois. Rick and Amy made Rock Falls their home until 1983 when they moved to Medicine Lodge, Kansas. There, Rick went to work for National Gypsum Company, retiring in 2021 after 38 years.

Rick enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grandkids. He was an avid golfer and loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan. He was a member of the Medicine Lodge Methodist Church.

Survivors include; wife, Amy; daughters; Laura (Max) Wheeler, Maize, KS; Carrie (Jeremy) Lane, Hays, KS; 4 grandchildren; Chase and Katelyn Wheeler, Michaela and Eli Lane; brother Lon Anderson, Rock Falls, IL; sister Judith Edison, Sterling IL; sister in law Julie (Jesse) Ramirez of Morrison, IL; brother in law David Songer, Riverside, CA, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and cousins

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Doris Songer; brother-in-law Robert Edison and sister-in-law Cindy Songer.

A memorial service will be held on November 2, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Medicine Lodge Methodist Church with Pastor Paul Stephens officiating. Kansas City Chiefs attire is welcome, Rick’s favorite team.

Memorials may be made to the Medicine Lodge Methodist Church or the Medicine Lodge Golf Course.
