Tina Jean Roe passed away unexpectedly at her home in Goodland, KS on August 5, 2024.&nbsp;

She was born to Dale and Betty (Howard) Taylor in Leoti, KS on July 23, 1957. After Betty passed away they then moved to Goodland where she lived most of her life. Dale met and married Jeanette Fletcher on May 5th, 1962. On September 29, 2003 she married Bruce Roe in Georgetown, CO. With this marriage they both gained a child.&nbsp;

Tina was a woman of many talents and held several different types of jobs around Goodland to include: Schlosser Concrete, Sherman County Dispatch, Good Samaritan Society, GED Para, Cowboy Corner and the Moose Lodge. A couple of her more notable jobs include Rasure Lumber where she worked for many years and mixing paint was her specialty and USD 352 West Elementary where she worked until she chose to retire. In her retirement her passion for flowers thrived and she spent many hours watering the flowers on Main Street for the City of Goodland and tending to her own flower beds.

She may have been a small woman but everybody who knew her would agree that she had the biggest heart and a big personality to match. She loved fiercely and would do absolutely anything for her friends and loved ones. One of her favorite things was being “Mimi” to her grandkids.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bruce, her parents, her brothers Dale and David Carter.&nbsp;

Survivors include: her daughter Jennifer (Steve) Arntt of Goodland, her son Blake (Michelle) Roe of Goodland, her grandchildren Dalton (Tresta) Arntt, Wyatt Arntt, Cadie Arntt, Alexis Gatz, and Henry Roe, her sisters Brenda (Robert) Short of Macon, MO and Lisa (Steve) Emick of Garden City along with several cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Lola Mae TeKrony, 59, passed away August 5, 2024, at her home in Jennings, Kansas. She was born on April 22, 1965, to Merwin and Joyce (Scott) TeKrony of Clear Lake, SD.

Lola was raised in Clear Lake and graduated from Deuel High School in 1983.

She moved to Jennings with Dean Robinson in 2007.

She enjoyed weekend road trips with Dean, fishing and garage sales.

She is survived by Dean Robinson of the home; son Robby Mortinsen of Jennings; siblings: Alvin, Randy, Steve, Vince, Blaine, Lorolia and Lesa.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Gary and Ricky.

Dennis Massier, 80, of Salina, Kansas (formerly Ellis, Kansas) passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024 in Salina.&nbsp; He was born on January 3, 1944 in Hays to John and Frieda (Knieling) Massier.

Dennis served in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Genevie Young. On April 18, 1969, they were married. They lived in Hays, then Ellis. Dennis worked for KAYS TV for many years until his retirement. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Ellis and enjoyed working on electronics and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his son, Duane Massier of WaKeeney; two daughters, Denise Yoakum and Debra Massier both of Salina; brother-in-law, Dean Young of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Ellie Schmidt, of Wichita; and a granddaughter, Haleigh Massier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Diane, and Darlene Breeze and her husband, Lewie; and two brothers, Delbert, and Darrell and his wife, Mary Massier.

It is with great sorrow that the family of Fredia L. Dodson announces the passing of their Mother, Grandmother, and Mema on June 17, 2024, surrounded by family, at the age of 89, in Great Bend.&nbsp;

Fredia was born on July 17, 1934, in Texas County, Mo., the third child of seven to Charles and Daisy Coatney. She married her high school sweetheart, Lyle Dodson, on May 10, 1952, and moved to Great Bend where they raised their children: Steven Lyle Dodson (Jacque) of Wichita, Gregory Dodson of Hutchinson, and Lora Alefs (Kenny) of Great Bend. They owned and operated Rosencrantz-Bemis Water Well in Great Bend since 1973 and Darling Drilling in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

She was very proud of her five grandchildren: Kelly Kearney, Cory Dodson, Christopher Dodson, Ryan Alefs and Shelly Duvall. Fredia was blessed with seven great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and one great-great-granddaughter. Her love for them was boundless and she never missed an opportunity to boast about their accomplishments.&nbsp;

Survivors include her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchild; one brother; and three sisters.&nbsp;

She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; and one sister.&nbsp;&nbsp;

“While we deeply miss you, we will take comfort in the countless memories you’ve left us with. Thank you for the lessons, laughter, and most importantly, your endless love.”&nbsp;

Donald P. “Don” Renchko, age 67 years of Great Bend, Kansas passed away at his home in Great Bend on August 6, 2024.&nbsp; Don was born on October 23, 1956 at Los Angeles, California to Steven and Dorothy (Marvel) Renchko.&nbsp; He was a caregiver for his mother in her later years, and after moving to Great Bend in October of 2017 he worked nights at Walmart in Great Bend unloading freight and stocking shelves.&nbsp; Don loved to make bricks from scratch for landscaping, and enjoyed walking and bike riding.

Donald 'Don' Renchko, age 67

John Michael “Mike” McBride, 77, Salina, passed away in his home on August 4, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Mike was born in Colby Kansas to parents Azel (Hopper) and John McBride. Although the family lived in several other places, they eventually returned to Colby where Mike graduated from High School in 1965. After graduation, Mike joined the Air Force and served five years overseas in Japan and Vietnam. After the service Mike returned to Colby and drove a bus route.

It was in Colby that Mike met the love of his life, Jackie, and they were married on December 9, 1972, at United Methodist Church, Colby. The couple moved to Salina a few years later where they later had one son, Michael “Wiley” just days before their ninth anniversary.Over the years, Mike worked for the local lumberyard, as insurance salesman, and as clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad.

He loved metal detecting as a hobby and became an independent dealer for MineLab metal detectors. He enjoyed collecting antique guns and coins.

Mike was most proud of two things: his military service and his grandchildren. If you ever met him, you have heard stories about both.

Over the year, Mike volunteered as a Boy Scout Troop Leader, soccer coach, and baseball coach. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Jane McBride, and brother-in-law Lloyd Wolf. He leaves behind to grieve his passing: wife Jackie, of the home; son Wiley (Kendra) McBride of Hays, Kansas; grandchildren McKena, Kaden, and Kamden McBride of Hays; brother Lynn McBride of Paola; sister Kay Wolf of Hutchinson; brothers-in-law Rick (Peggy) Tillett and Rod Tillett of Salina, and Rory Tillett of Claflin, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 9, at 10:30am, at Ryan Mortuary in Salina, with Pastor Bruce Dimick officiating. A private interment will be at a later date.

John Michael “Mike” McBride

John Scott Campbell, Jr. (Junior) was born Febr. 11, 1948 at the hospital in Portis, KS. To John S. Campbell, Sr. and Iva (Hendrickson), the youngest of seven children. He passed away August 5, 2024, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital with family by his side.

Jr, attended school up thru the eighth grade at Bloomington, KS. When it closed, he attended school and graduated at Osborne High School in 1966. He signed with the Army in June of 1965 and entered the KS. National Guard on March of 1966 and served until March of 1972.

Jr. married his wife of 57 years, Marjorie Slothower, on March 27, 1967, to this union three sons were born, Michael, Steven and Kelly.

Jr. farmed with his dad until his passing when he went into sales working as a salesman for Hastings Home Safety where he received several awards including Top Salesman of the year in 1979. His desire to farm took over and he went back to it. He also loved working with his livestock of cattle, pigs and sheep and occasionally a hand at raising special breeds of chickens and turkeys with his kids.

Jr. cared about his community and showed it by being a part of the Hawkeye Township Board, the Butler Cemetery Board and later when moving into Portis he ran on the Portis City Council and was responsible for acquiring the Portis Community Center and with the help of his son Kelly and wife Ashley laid the groundwork for Portis to improve the water system in Portis.

Jr. also dedicated 17 years of his life to the Osborne Rural Fire Department thru Portis. In his spare time, he would enjoy hunting and fishing with his boys and his brothers.

Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Shirley Hays, Irene M. Macy, Sylvia Reinking and brothers Wendell and Charles (Bill).

Mark Richard Hammerschmidt, of Plainville Kansas, passed away on August 4, 2024, at his home after a brief illness, at the age of 44. He was born on September 29, 1979, to Leo and Barbara (Finnesy) Hammerschmidt in Hays, Kansas. He was married on August 21, 2010, to Deanna (Schultz).

Mark grew up in Plainville and graduated from Plainville High School in 1998. He graduated from Northwest Kansas Technical School in 2001 with a degree in Engineering &amp; Drafting Technology. Mark was an Engineer Technician at Penco Engineering.

Larry L. Criswell, 84, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024, in Wichita, Kan. Larry was born the youngest of 8 children on August 1, 1939, to James Oscar and Cora (Boren) Criswell in Selden, Kansas. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1959. He married Geraldine (Gerry) A (Anschutz) in 1961 in Wilson, Kansas.

Larry is survived by his wife Gerry of Wichita; sons David (Kim), Wilson, and Daniel (Hollie), Graham, Texas, and daughter Amy (Dr. Mark) Hilger, Wichita; grandchildren Anna (Dean) Masters, Burlington, Kan, John Criswell, Cimmaron, Kan, Cara Criswell, Hays, Leah Criswell, Wilson, Alex Criswell, Lincoln, Neb, Jill (Andrew) Jonas, Kansas City, MO, Emalie (Michael) Lindsey, Nashville, TN, Rachel Criswell, Wichita, Jace Hilger, Wichita, Tatum Hilger, Topeka, Cade Hilger, Wichita; great-grandchildren Beau Jonas, Bennett Jonas, Lucille Lindsey, Hudson Lindsey, and Spencer Masters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ethel Coppenhaver, Vera Armstrong and Doris Davis, and brothers John, Darrel, Norman, and Norval Criswell.

During his working years, Larry acquired the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army, was a patrolman and detective on the Salina Police Department, and worked many years as an insurance adjuster, manager for Graham Brother’s Entertainment, and as a partner in several businesses.

Larry was a good athlete and enjoyed many sports, especially basketball and golf. While in the U.S. Army, he played basketball on an Army team that scrimmaged with the Los Angeles Lakers. He also coached youth basketball and baseball teams. Larry was a skilled card player, especially pinocle and pitch, which he learned at a young age from his Mom.

Larry was interested in people and was a good listener with a good memory. He and Gerry, his siblings and their spouses built and nurtured a large and close-knit family. He enjoyed telling stories, cherished his family and friends, and was loved and adored by many.

A funeral service will be held on August 9, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Cochran Mortuary, 1411 N. Broadway, Wichita, followed by lunch at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. A graveside service will be held at the Wilson City Cemetery on August 10, 2024, at 1:30 PM, followed by refreshments at the Wilson Methodist Ed Building.

Donald Wayne Bixenman, 66, of Colby, died Friday, August 2, 2024. He was born on September 18, 1957, in Colby, to Leroy and Lucille (Leiker) Bixenman.

Don was a crane operator and welder and had worked at Western Well, Western Sprinklers, Peabody Floway, and Woofter Construction. He had a life-long love of motorcycles. In his younger years Don competed in motor cross racing and later stuck to riding his Harley, which he did all the work on himself. He was an avid football fan and especially loved watching the Steelers. On June 21, 2003, Don married Susie Knox, in Colby.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Paula Bixenman and Steve Bixenman.

He is survived by his wife Susie; siblings, Mike Bixenman, Dave (Lori) Bixenman and Joan Matthews; stepchildren, Michael Haire and Melissa Haire; many nieces and nephews and his two beloved dogs.

Dick Kuhlmann passed away on 1 August 2024 at Health and Rehab, Smith Center, Kansas with his daughter Cheryl and two sisters, JoLinn and Sandy by his side.

Dick was born on 23 December 1944 to parents Betty and Gilbert Kuhlmann. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and granddaughter, Tammy.

Left to mourn are daughter, Cheryl; son Robert; sisters JoLinn (Fred) and Sandy; granddaughter Cortney; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dighton- Gordon W. Strickert, 72, died on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Lane County Hospital in Dighton. He was born on January 25, 1952 at Scott City the son of Gilbert &amp; Doris Marie (Harkness) Strickert.

Gordon attended Horace Mann school in Denver and graduated from Denver North High School in 1970. He started working at Standard Fencing Company and Denver City Housing Authority before opening his own garage Car Tech Auto. In 1992 he moved to Dighton and started working at Regnier Repair as a mechanic. He then became a Partner in Main Street Auto. His final occupation was being a “Cowboy” raising cattle is what he loved.

In his earlier years was a good baseball pitcher and earned a tryout with the Kansas City Royals. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, his casino trips and following his family and coach us all in sports. He was involved in drag racing “Mopars” and later he and his son did dirt track racing together.

He is survived by his Wife- Julie Strickert, 5 Children- Jamie Strickert of Escondido, California, Jeff Strickert of Thornton, Colorado, Jason Strickert of Raytown, Missouri, Susie Wiechman of Scott City and Kyle Strickert of Holcomb, Step-Mother- Audrey Strickert of Lakewood, Colorado, 2 Sisters- Belinda Hurst of Littleton, Colorado and Judy Denton of Marquette, 12 Grandchildren and several nieces &amp; nephews.

Jetmore – Donna Ruth Salmans, 85, passed away August 4, 2024 at her home in Jetmore.

She was born April 2, 1939 in Dodge City, the daughter of George Henry Herman and Leona “Ruth” (Harms) Harms. &nbsp;A lifetime area resident, she was an EMT for over forty years and was a Bus Driver and Transportation Director for USD #227.

She was a member of the Lutheran faith and attended the United Presbyterian Church in Jetmore where she was involved in the church kitchen. &nbsp;Donna was a 4-H member/ leader and loved being on the ambulance and serving as an EMTΙ.

On August 20, 1956, she married Lyle C. Salmans at the Hodgeman County St. Michaels Lutheran Church. &nbsp;He passed away September 7, 2014.

Survivors include: two sons, Bruce Salmans and wife Gina, Cimarron, Duane Salmans and wife Kaylin, Dodge City; two daughters, Lyla Lonnberg and husband Kurt, Jetmore and Sara Burke and husband Justin, Wichita; twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Darrel Harms, Gordon Harms and Dean Harms.

Passionate about life, Pedro found joy in a variety of pursuits. He loved playing basketball, practicing his trumpet, and cooking delicious treats for his family, all of which he did with a heart full of love.&nbsp; His caring nature and eagerness to learn new things made him a cherished friend and an inspiration to those who knew him.

Pedro will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He leaves a legacy of kindness, laughter, and a reminder of how precious each moment can be. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Don DuVarney, age 83 of Russell, Kansas died Saturday, August 3, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society – Decatur County.

Don was born on July 10, 1941, in Springfield, Massachusetts to Donald and Helen (Bourne) DuVarney.

As a United States Air Force Veteran, Don’s passion was in the air. He was an accomplished pilot and found peace and joy in the heavens. His other pride and joy were his family – his son, Evan DuVarney (Cathleen) of Russell, Kansas and his daughter, Shayna DuVarney (Jimmy Hunkapiller) of McKinney, Texas. But nothing made him smile more than his granddaughter, Neleh.

Don enjoyed anything outdoors. Hiking was a favorite pastime, but he truly enjoyed the art of fly fishing.

A memorial mass is planned for later this year at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church in McKinney, Texas where his inurnment will take place.

Donald Robert DuVarney

Lindalou Fossett, 83, of Atwood, died Thursday, August 1, 2024. She was born October 26, 1940, in San Diego, CA, to James and Nell (Flack) Guindon. The family moved around to 12 different states when Lindalou was a child.

On a train in Nebraska, Lindalou met the love of her life, Bernard “Bud” Fossett. They were married on January 2, 1961.

Lindalou was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 50 years, was a member of the Odd Fellows and served on the Senior Center Board. She loved to crochet, craft, scrapbook and play bingo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nell Guindon; sister Jan Guindon and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

She is survived by her husband Bud; sisters, Michelle (Lee) Cody, of Branson, MO and Jameenell Guindon, St. Paul, MN; brother James “Jammie” (Laurel) Guindon, of Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Kay Brown, of Atwood and Carol (Jim) Williams, of Bird City, KS and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Beatrice Joan (Wilson) (McCullough) Hilzer was born April 21, 1931 in WaKeeney, KS to the late Howard and Alvina (Tegtmeyer) Wilson. She passed away Thursday, August 1st, 2024 at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley, KS at the age of 93.

Joan was raised in WaKeeney, KS with all her siblings and graduated from Trego Community High School. After graduating high school she worked at the Trego County Courthouse and the WaKeeney Bank.

On March 11, 1950 Joan married James (Jim) McCullough in WaKeeney, KS. The couple moved to Grinnell not too long after where they made their home and raised their children Da’Nella Jo, Mikel James, and Sheryl Kay. Joan continued her love for banking, working at Peoples State Bank in Grinnell for many years. She was a member and very active in the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the Wheatland VFW Post #2864 Auxiliary and in the early years served as the President. She enjoyed being in the same Bridge Club for many years and Snappy Dozen Card Club. She was a Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Grinnell Pride Committee.

On September 1, 1984, Joan married Art Hilzer and she moved to Park, KS, where she and Art made their home and raised and trained greyhounds for the track. She was not a big dog lover, but she enjoyed the business side of things by doing all the bookkeeping and keeping track of all the paperwork for the greyhounds. The two enjoyed watching the races through the years. All the grandkids have special memories of Grandma Jo at the dog farm in Park. She was not one to knit, sew or crochet, but she was always first in line to give the grandkids a ride on the 4-wheeler or mule and let them drive the van back and forth to the kennel.

Survivors include one son, Mikel McCullough, Oakley, KS, two daughters, Da’Nella Anderson (Jeff) Topeka, KS, Sheryl Johnson (Steve) Oakley, KS, four grandchildren, Erin Richardson (Jared), Kyle Anderson, Brett Suter (Regina), Brook Plummer (Ethan), four step-grandchildren, Chad Lucas (Mary), Diane Nolan, Brandy Wixom, Michael Wixom, five great grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren, one sister, Beverly “Bev” Wedermeyer (Melvin), and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim McCullough (1983), husband Art Hilzer (2010), brothers Howard Adair Wilson, Billy LaVon Wilson, Vernon “Dick” Wilson, one sister Vera Virginia Webb, and step-daughters Leda Hilzer and Charlotte Lucas.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Baalmann Mortuary, Oakley, KS. 

Family will greet friends at 9:30 am until service time. A lunch will follow at the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center in Oakley, KS. Everyone is invited to enjoy a meal together and visit with friends and family.

Joan was a secretary for the ASC office in Ness City for many years. &nbsp;She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society in Ness City. &nbsp;Joan was active in many bowling leagues through the years. &nbsp;After retirement she enjoyed working in her yard, completing puzzles, playing cards and dice and watching the Royals on TV and listening to polka music. &nbsp;Joan was a loving a caring person and she loved having her family around her in her home. &nbsp;Joan married William Harry VanDegrift on Tuesday, October 28th, 1958, in Ness City. He preceded her in death on February 16, 2003.

Joan is survived by her three sons, Tom VanDegrift and his wife, Denise, of Luray, Todd VanDegrift and his wife, Stephanie, of Dodge City, and Troy VanDegrift, and his wife, Emy, of Ness City; son in law Donny Woods of Dodge City; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild. &nbsp;She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; daughter, Tammy Woods; three brothers; and three sisters.

Funeral service will be on Thursday, August 8, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Church, Ness City followed by burial in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. &nbsp;Parish Vigil will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home beginning with a rosary at 6:30. Joan Marie VanDegrift

With great sorrow the family of Lowell L. Rudolph, age 93, announce his passing from life on August 3, 2024 at Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas.&nbsp;

Lowell was born on January 5, 1931 to Lloyd C. and Estella B (Hollister) Rudolph in Scott City, Kansas. He was the last surviving child of his parents.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lowell started his school years in a one room school house, known as District 5-The Rudolph School, located on his parents’ property. He continued his education at Scott Community High School, graduating with the class of 1948.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lowell started working with his father and brothers on the family farm during his teenage years. In 1953 he joined the US Army, serving his country at Fort Whittier, Alaska during the Korean War. Lowell was released from active service in 1954 and he continued to serve in the US Army Reserves until his honorable discharge on January 6, 1961.

&nbsp;After his active service Lowell returned to Kansas to join his father and brothers on the family farm. Eventually his brothers chose to go on to different professions. Upon his father’s passing, Lowell purchased his sibling’s share of the farm and continued to raise crops and cattle until he began transitioning into retirement in 1999. He was a lifelong farmer rancher.

&nbsp;Lowell married Patricia L. Hollingsworth on March 12, 1955. They had two daughters Kathleen A (Tom) Moore and LuAnn E. (Jon) Buehler. He is also survived by five grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, and numerous other family and friends.

&nbsp;Lowell is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Estella Rudolph, a brother who died at birth, sisters Marguerite (Edgar) Rose, Florence (Don) Japhet, Joyce (died in infancy), brothers John, Gail (Ona) Rudolph. His wife, Patricia and one daughter, Kathleen Moore.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Patricia taught their daughters the art of keeping house and home, but Lowell taught them about care of horses and cattle, basic mechanics and the value of hard work. They drove tractors doing field work, trucks during harvest and helped with the cattle. Their daughters were well rounded women.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Family was very important to both Lowell and Patricia. Not only did many of the grandchildren learn to work hard from Grandpa, there were many nephews that would come to work on the farm in the summers. There was much they learned working with Uncle Lowell. He was a quiet calm instructor. He would teach them what hard work was and how to be a good employee wherever they worked. He also taught them they could have fun yet get work done.&nbsp;

&nbsp;There were many, many family holidays and summer gathering hosted by Lowell and Pat at both the farm and later at their home in Scott City. They truly enjoyed having their family and extended family around them. Everyone would feel welcome in their home.&nbsp;

&nbsp;Lowell had an ornery sense of humor. He would tease his daughters, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to the point they would believe the stories he told them. Yet everyone of them knew he was always there for them if he was needed. They could ask him for advice, help or just an ear to listen. They were important to him and he was important to them.&nbsp;

Lowell L. Rudolph

Bertus Duane Huiting (known as “Dink”), a retired farmer from Downs, KS, passed away on August 3rd, 2024, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne, KS at the age of 99.

He was born on the family farm in Jewell County, KS, on July 18th, 1925, to Frederick and Muriel Huiting. He was the third child of four children, Bryson, Dale, Duane &amp; Esther. In 1927, the family moved to the current farm northwest of Downs. Duane attended Fairview District 58 School and then graduated from Downs High School in 1943, where he played football and basketball and became an FFA State Farmer. In football, that’s where he got the nickname “Dink” and has stayed with him ever since. At a very young age, Duane was baptized in the Christian Church.

A few years after high school, Duane developed “Combine Fever” after joining a custom harvest crew. Duane helped his dad on the farm, and he also worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad, helped build the Kirwin Dam and a welder at Richardson Manufacturing. But the custom harvesting got in his blood. Duane met his future wife, Juanita Goheen at a local dance, they dated for a while, then married on September 24, 1950, in Downs. To this union six children were born, Shirley, Jim, Tava, Stanley, Nancy &amp; Brian. The new couple farmed, raised sheep and cattle and went custom harvesting.

In 1962, Duane became a co-owner of the Huiting and Cary Fertilizer and Elevator with Howard Cary. After years in the business, they sold out. Duane continued to farm and custom harvest until retiring in 1979. His middle son, Stanley, continued the custom harvest. In the early 1970’s, Duane helped Melton Motors in Belleville bring back new trucks from Detroit. In the late 1970’s, Duane was contacted by the Massey Ferguson Company to come to Florida and teach and train the people on the sugar cane machines. So, Duane and Juanita and their two younger children went to Florida for the winters to work in the sugar cane fields. In 1982, the marriage ended. Duane continued to farm, and he started selling Cargill seeds, then Myogen seeds until 2009, he sold certified and registered wheat as well.

In 1994, Duane married Verna Preuss in Stuttgart, KS and they continued to farm, raise cattle and sell seed between the two farms. He retired from farming in 2011. During this time, Duane and Verna enjoyed going to polka dances. Verna, having health problems and not being able to help much, her family took care of her, and Duane moved into Parkview Care Center in Osborne in February of 2021 and the phonelines were always hot.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bryson &amp; Dale, sister Esther, daughter Shirley, son Jim, two grandchildren Jason and Jaime, first wife Juanita, current wife Verna in 2023 and son-in-law Wayne.

He is survived by his children, daughters Tave &amp; Nancy (Dave), sons Stanley &amp; Brian (Minda), grandchildren Jared (MaKenzie), Lexis, Rocky and three great grandchildren Baylee, Aubree &amp; Bentlee, step children Darrell (Sandra), Velma (Dave) &amp; Eldon (Sandy), and many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

Bertus Duane Huiting (known as “Dink”), a retired farmer from Downs, KS, passed away on August 3rd, 2024, at Parkview Care Center in Osborne, KS at the age of 99.He was born on the family farm in Jewell County, KS, on July 18th, 1925, to Frederick and Muriel Huiting. He was the third child of four children, Bryson, Dale, Duane &amp; Esther. In 1927, the family moved to the current farm northwest of Downs. Duane attended Fairview District 58 School and then graduated from Downs High School in 1943, where he played football and basketball and became an FFA State Farmer. In football, that’s where he got the nickname “Dink” and has stayed with him ever since. At a very young age, Duane was baptized in the Christian Church.A few years after high school, Duane developed “Combine Fever” after joining a custom harvest crew. Patricia Ann Proksch, 87, died August 2, 2024, at Credo Senior Living of Hoisington, Kansas. &nbsp;She was born April 29, 1937, the daughter of Gus and Dale (Depiesse) Schremmer. &nbsp;Pat graduated from Hoisington High School in 1955.&nbsp;

On April 24, 1957, she married Richard J. Proksch in Hoisington, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2019.

Pat and Richard moved to Denver Colorado in 1961, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Target Dept. Store for 33 years. While in Denver they enjoyed square dancing and were part of a bowling league. In 2000, Richard and Pat moved back to Hoisington where she was an active member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting, and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch watching the birds and squirrels. She loved her grandchildren and when they visited, she made sure to make special care packages for each of them for the trip home.

Survivors include: two sons, Brad Proksch and wife Lisa of Hudson, Colorado and Brent Proksch and wife Anne of Montgomery, Texas; brothers, Bill Schremmer, Gene Schremmer and wife Cheryl, and Ron Schremmer and wife Betty, all of Hoisington; and three grandchildren, Shannon Proksch and husband Byron Pillow, Brian Proksch and wife Katie, and Austin Proksch; and a great granddaughter, Amelia Rose Proksch.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Brian R. Proksch, brothers, Earl and Jim Schremmer, and sisters, Karen Bishop and Lois Klug.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024, with family to greet friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Rosary and Vigil Service will begin at 7:30 p.m. all at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, Kansas, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.&nbsp;
