Cloy Wallace Logan, age 87 passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Park Lane Nursing Home in Scott City, Kansas. He was born on October 4, 1936, in Scott City, Kansas, the son of Clyde &amp; Adlee Wallace Logan. A resident of the Pence Community in Scott County, Kansas for over sixty years, he was a lifelong farmer and cattleman in Scott and Wichita Counties and a seed salesman for over thirty years for Pioneer Seed Company.

&nbsp;Cloy attended the Pence Community Church in Pence, Kansas, Anthem Masonic Lodge #284, and Shriners both of Scott City, Kansas, and served on the Scott County ASCS committee board and USD 466 School Board.

&nbsp;On October 14, 1961, he married Leona Marie Hanzlick in Scott City, Kansas. She survives.

&nbsp;Survivors include his Wife - Leona M. Logan of Scott City, Kansas, Three Sons - Calvin &amp; Leyla of Broomfield, Colorado, Kyle &amp; Hilary of Hays, Kansas, and Kurt of Scott City, Kansas, One Sister - Judy Rokowski of Wilmington, Delaware, One Brother - Leon &amp; Joyce Logan of Lenexa, Kansas, Five grandchildren - Blake &amp; Megan Logan of Westminster, Colorado, Chloe Logan of Hays, Kansas, Thomas &amp; Diana Logan of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, Karlee &amp; Daniel Hair of Brownell, and Kylee of Scott City. He has three great-grandchildren.&nbsp;

&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Adlee; one brother, Duane; and one daughter-in-law, Ashlee.

&nbsp;Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Scott City, Kansas with Don Williams presiding.

Floyd Robert Rohr, 93, Hays, died Thursday, July 11, 2024 at HaysMed.

He was born November 25, 1930 in Ellis County, the son of Lawrence P. and Katherine C. (Doerfler) Rohr. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War and was stationed in France, Germany, and Belgium. After his discharge, he was an oil field engine repairman owning Glenn Gill Repair for 19 years. He then worked for Knighton Oil Company, Inc. until he was well into his eighties as he loved repairing engines and working with his hands. On May 2, 1960 he was united in marriage to Margie Lou Kreutzer in Hays and they celebrated over 64 years of marriage. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #9076, and enjoyed reading Weekly Magazine, taking care of his garden and lawn at the shop, and was a devoted husband and hard worker from a young age.

Survivors include his wife Margie, a brother Walter Rohr and wife Doris of Orange Park, FL, a sister Ruth Pfeifer of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Elmer (Irene), Gilbert (Edna), Vernon (Annetta), Fr. Vincent, and LeRoy Rohr, and two sisters, Esther Ruder (Edwin) and Minnie Zimmerman (Victor), a brother-in-law, Leonard Pfeifer, and a sister-in-law, Mary Rohr.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Curtis Carlson OFM Cap. and Fr. Alvin Werth officiating. Burial will follow with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard in St. Joseph Cemetery. Ruth E. Zimmerman, 91, Hays, died Friday, July 12, 2024 surrounded by family at Via Christi Village.

She was born December 19, 1932 in Schoenchen, the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Gottschalk) Kronewitter. Ruth graduated from Schoenchen High School, and on August 13, 1951 she was united in marriage to Roman C. “Roy” Zimmerman in Schoenchen. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on December 8, 2013. She worked at the Ellis County Court House, USave Bakery, Stromgren Supports, and for many years was a bank teller at Hays State Bank, Hays National Bank, and First National Bank. She possessed a strong faith, attended daily mass, and devoutly prayed the rosary. Ruth was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and for over 50 years was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Circle #254. She enjoyed dancing, music, playing cards, traveling, and she loved and cherished her family and their time together.

Survivors include her son Keith Zimmerman and wife Anne of Hays, three daughters, Sheila Kelsay and husband Larry of Wichita, Karen Kisner and husband Dale of Hays, and Kay Werth and husband Loran of Hays, two sisters, Jane Kisner and Carol Legleiter, both of Hays, 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Roy, her daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Sanders, son-in-law, James F. Werth, one brother, Jim Kronewitter, and two sisters, Bernice Werth and Betty Rajewski.

It is highly probable that Graham County, Kansas native Mike Boss was born with a paintbrush in his right hand. His earliest art reflects the same expression as his most recent works. Trains, planes, cars, trucks, ships, boats - all those images that triggered the imagination of the boy continued to inspire the man. After graduating from Hill City High School, Mike majored in music at Southern Illinois University and Kansas State University.

As an historian, extensive research and detail went into every one of Mike's paintings, with each having a story of its own. His work is in galleries and the homes of private collectors around the world. Also an accomplished music conductor and bass player, Mike's music focused on the sounds of classical symphonies. He continued to play "Big Bertha" until pain in his arm and shoulder made it too difficult. The only thing fonder to Mike's heart than the canvas and his music was Buckwheat, his late and beloved toy poodle, who can still be found hanging out somewhere in all of his paintings.

Mike lived and worked creating his wonderful works of art in the place he affectionately called East Overshoe, a.k.a. Hill City, Kansas. Up until earlier this year, when chronic issues combined with sudden illness began to take its toll, Mike continued to paint. Even on his most difficult days near the end, the creative ideas and yearning to pick up a brush never stopped.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Lois Boss, his brother Richard Boss, aunts, uncles and cousins, his beloved Buckwheat, and, more recently, Buddy.

Mike leaves behind only a couple of distant relatives, and a whole host of friends from across the world who loved, appreciated, and will miss him dearly for who he was. A man with incredible skills &amp; talents, humor &amp; sarcasm, and the ability to light up the lives of so many with his music, art, and incredible knowledge of so many topics, including the night skies. A paint brush in his hand brought him many hours of enjoyment with each piece he created. May you rest in peace, Mike. The world here is definitely less colorful without you. Instead of looking up to the sky you are now a shining star beaming down at us. The heavens are now much brighter, more animated, and you have a whole new canvas to bring to life.

Interment of Mike's ashes will occur at a later date in the Boss family plot in the Morland City Cemetery, Morland, Kansas.

Dutch Mannel, age 70 years, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Wednesday morning, July 10, 2024 at Azria Health Woodhaven in Great Bend.&nbsp; Dutch was born on September 4, 1953 at Ellsworth, Kansas to Paul O. and Fern (Smith) Mannel.&nbsp; He grew up in Lincoln County, Kansas and lived in various locations including Ellsworth, Hutchinson, Burrton, Holyrood, Wichita, St. John and Salina, Kansas before coming to Great Bend to live with his daughter April in 2019.&nbsp; Dutch worked for S&amp;K Oil Production in Burrton, Kansas until a back injury and health issues caused him to be disabled at the age of 32.&nbsp; He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, traveling, and was active on social media and had a circle of friends he enjoyed keeping in contact with.

Dale Gene Eaton, 67, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home on July 8, 2024, in rural Palco, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM prior to the service at Red Line Church of God 3804 H Road in Palco, KS. Burial will follow at the Green Mound Cemetery, rural Palco, KS.

Dale was born on August 2, 1956, in Hays, KS, to Joe and Mary (Towns) Eaton. He graduated from Palco High School in 1974. During high school, Dale was involved in many activities. He was in the swing choir, played trombone, was on the football team, and participated in theatre productions. He also took Grand Champion Beef Feeder Calf while in 4H.

In 1978, Dale graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene College, Olathe, KS, with a BA in Music Education. It was during his time at MANC that he met Lynette Aune, and they were married on July 8, 1978, in Minot, ND. After their marriage, Dale and Lyn embarked on a journey of teaching music in Larned, KS, and Altamont, KS, before finally settling in Olathe, KS, in 1982. He completed his Master of Music at Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS, in 1991.

In his 28 years of teaching music in the Kansas City metro area, Dale taught at Harmon High School in Kansas City, KS, and at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, KS. In addition to teaching during these years, he spent the summers farming out at Palco. He retired from teaching in 2010 but continued to farm up until the present time.

Dale loved music. He was a wonderful tenor and a highly respected choral conductor. He sang the tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah many times. Over his career, he sang with multiple church choirs, including the choir at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe where he was a member.

Dale's love for his family was unwavering. He was an avid hunter and cherished spending summers at the farm. His passion for family heritage was evident in his attendance at as many family reunions as possible. One of his fondest memories was singing in the family quartet ‘The Eatones’ with his nephew, brother, and father.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Eaton, Palco, KS; brother, Donald Eaton, Olathe, KS; Aunt Shirley (Towns) Burr, Elba, AL; sister-in-law, Mavis (Leigh) Kallestad, Wayzata, MN; sister-in-law, Sharon Eaton, Nashville, TN, and many beloved cousins; Nieces and nephews Britney (Scott) Rice, Olathe, KS; Caleb (Sarah) Eaton, Leadville, CO; Joshua (Tiffany) Eaton, Arlington, TX; Darci (Eric) Kimmerling, Henderson, TN; Matthew (Deborah) Eaton, Holt, MI and many cousins-in-law, great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Lyn (Aune) Eaton, his father, Joseph Eaton, his brother Dan Eaton, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He completed his Master of Music at Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS, in 1991.In his 28 years of teaching music in the Kansas City metro area, Dale taught at Harmon High School in Kansas City, KS, and at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, KS. In addition to teaching during these years, he spent the summers farming out at Palco. He retired from teaching in 2010 but continued to farm up until the present time.Dale loved music. He was a wonderful tenor and a highly respected choral conductor. He sang the tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah many times. Over his career, he sang with multiple church choirs, including the choir at College Church of the Nazarene in Olathe where he was a member.Dale's love for his family was unwavering. He was an avid hunter and cherished spending summers at the farm. His passion for family heritage was evident in his attendance at as many family reunions as possible. Michael G. “Boss” Berry, 69, died Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Western Plains – St. Catherine Hospital in Dodge City, Kansas. He was born July 15, 1954, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Don &amp; Lorena (Bell) Berry.

Mike grew up and attended schools in Deerfield, Kansas, and graduated from Deerfield High School in 1972. On August 17, 1974, he married Debra A. Eskelund in Lakin, Kansas. They made their home in Garden City where they have lived since. Mike has always been a hard worker. He began his working career as a small boy delivering newspapers. In his high school years, he worked for several different farmers. While working on the farm, they would take a lunch break inside the scale house where it was cooler, and a TV was available. Every day they watched Days of Our Lives and Mike became hooked on the show and continued to watch it for over 50 years. While still in high school, Mike started working weekends for his Uncle Dale Berry at J L Douglass Roofing. Mike then worked at Simpson Brothers Electric which started his career as an electrician. He later worked at B and R Electric, and Geier Electric. In 1986, Mike started M Berry Electric which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2022.

Mike was a member of Buffalo Dunes Golf Club and loved the game of golf. He also enjoyed watching movies, Days of Our Lives, Young Sheldon, Trading in the Stock Market, and listening to smooth jazz. He also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Mike is survived by his wife Debra Berry of the home; two sons Ryan &amp; wife Briea Berry of Castle Pines, Colorado and Ross &amp; wife Shanda Berry of Parker, Colorado; a daughter Renae &amp; husband Brandon Pruitt of Leawood, Kansas; five precious grandchildren Brooke and Reid Berry, Benjamin, Rowan and Rylee Pruitt; his mother Lorena Berry; two brothers Marvin &amp; wife Diana Berry and Denton &amp; wife Karen Berry; two sisters Diana Weatherred and Belinda Berry; and a brother-in-law Joe &amp; wife Colleen Eskelund.

Mike is preceded in death by his father Don Berry and a brother-in-law Jim Weatherred.

Mike was never seen without wearing a pocket t-shirt. In Mike’s memory, the family would encourage everyone attending his service to wear a pocket t-shirt, which will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at Turning Point Church of the Nazarene in Garden City with Rev. Nathan Haeck officiating. Burial will follow at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. There will be no calling hours. Anthony "Tony" D. Votaw of Ithaca, NY passed away on July 6, 2024, at the age of 67 in Kansas City, Missouri. 

Born on July 3, 1957, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Tony grew up in Hays, Kansas, where he attended Hays High School. He furthered his education at Fort Hays State University and Wichita State University. Tony dedicated a significant part of his life to the healthcare sector, retiring in 2022 as the Vice President of Cayuga Health System in Ithaca, New York. 

Renowned for his hands-on leadership style, Tony was a familiar face throughout the health system, known for his routine checks to ensure the safety and well-being of both patients and staff. His commitment to operational excellence and compassionate leadership left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community. Outside of his career, Tony was an avid pool player in his younger years. 

He cherished and loved his family, taking immense pride in Travis and Sara’s accomplishments especially their service to our country. He loved Polly’s sons as his own. While he may not have been the “play catch” kind of grandpa, he showed up to the important events in all the grandchildren’s lives no matter how far we needed to travel ..even Alaska in February! He was blessed to see his oldest granddaughter Kirsten graduate from high school, then college and then get married. He was so proud of her as she has grown and advanced her career as a Music Teacher in a rural Kansas school district. “Lily week” was established when Lily started spending a week with us each summer and was a tradition even through his illness. 

The grandsons, while perhaps a bit rambunctious at times, helped Tony to see that having family physically close by was something to be cherished. Tony’s “love language” was making sure everyone was safe and happy..and we felt it every day.

 Tony is survived by his loving wife, Polly Votaw of Ithaca, NY; children, Travis (Penny) Votaw of Lansing, KS, and Sara (Brad) August of Lansing, KS; stepsons, Tim (Lisa) Parsons of Freeville, NY, and Matt (Ruthanne) Parsons of Groton, NY; his father, Charles Votaw of Hays, KS; and sister, Brenda McMillin of Hays, KS. He was a proud grandfather to Kirsten (Ryan) Smallwood, Lily August, Connor and Colin Parsons, and Owen Parsons, among extended family members. 

Tony was preceded in death by his mother, Zireta Votaw, who passed away just weeks before him on June 14, 2024. 

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in Hays, Kansas, and Ithaca, New York. Belden-Larkin Funeral Home in Leavenworth, KS, is assisting the family.

Steven Ray Wornkey, Sr., 76, passed away July 9, 2024, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on June 26, 1948, in Great Bend, to Roy D. and Maxine (Kilgore) Wornkey. On Sept. 5, 1975, he married Rebecca Sue “Becky” Sander in Great Bend. She passed on Nov. 18, 2019.



A lifetime area resident, Steven worked as a gas service technician for Midwest Energy for 18 years prior to his retirement. He was a graduate of Ellinwood High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Steven enjoyed fishing, playing slot machines, and was a golf enthusiast, belonging to Grove Park Golf Club. He was a caring father, loving brother, and adored his grandchildren. 



Survivors include four sons, Shawn Wornkey and spouse Mitch of Hollywood, Fla., Steven Wornkey, Jr., Alan L. Wornkey and spouse Sheri, and Chad Wornkey, all of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Blake and Dylan Wondra, and Heaven and Nicholas Wornkey; one great-grandchild, River Wornkey; three brothers, Jerry Wornkey of Scottsbluff, Neb., Tom Wornkey and wife Chris, and Tim Wornkey and wife Pam, all of Ellinwood; sister, Pam Nowak of Holcomb; and numerous loved ones.



He is preceded in death by his wife, Becky; son, Darren Wornkey; parents; and two brothers, Jim and Don Wornkey.

Steven Wornkey, Sr., age 76

Julia Rose Black Abbott was born March 12, 1932, in Williamsville, Illinois to parents Harvey and Mary Black. She was the oldest of three children. Julia passed away July 8, 2024, at the Heritage Care Facility in Red Cloud, Nebraska. She was 92.

Julia grew up and attended school in Williamsville, Illinois. She graduated second in her class and had perfect attendance in all four years of high school. She attended Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois for one year. There she met Morse Abbott who was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Champaign, Illinois. On December 1, 1951, Julia and Morse were married in Williamsville, Illinois. Their plans were to make the Air Force a career. But after four years Morse was called back to the family farm north of Lebanon, Kansas where they made their home for over 60 years and raised their four children Steven, Linda, Barb, and Tom. Summers always included a trip back to Illinois to see family and friends and to spend time at her parents’ cabin on the Illinois River.

Julia was a member and active in the United Methodist Church in Lebanon. She belonged to Eastern Star where she held various offices. She was a member of the Blue Stocking Bridge Club. She was a Chicago Cubs baseball fan. She loved sunflowers, iris, and her little dog Abby… Julia taught herself to knit and made lots of mittens, scarves, sweaters, and afghans. She loved to cross stitch and made many quilts and throws for family and friends. She always had a “project” in the works. She had a collection of over 100 teapots. Julia was a city girl. She didn’t know how to drive. But she came to love life on the farm. She helped with all the farm chores. She became a great cook and always had room at her table for anyone who stopped in. She raised a big garden and always canned lots of fruits and vegetables. Julia was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. She was a sister, a friend, a neighbor. She had a beautiful smile…

Julia was preceded in death by her husband Morse, her parents Harvey and Mary Black, a sister MaryLee Canterbury, a son Steven, brother-in-law Norman Abbott and sister in law Carol Kellogg.

She is survived by her two daughters Linda Paget and Barb Johanek, and son Tom Abbott, her brother Bob and wife Shirley of Williamsville, Illinois and a sister-in-law Judy Abbott of Topeka, Kansas. 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews

Warren Ervin McConnell, 89, Salina, passed away on July 8, 2024, at Salina Regional Health Center with his family by his side. &nbsp;He was born on November 9, 1934, in Haileyville, Oklahoma to William Warren McConnell and Zelma (Allen) McConnell. His stepmother was Neva (Walford) McConnell.

&nbsp;He married Patricia Ann Bahr on October 6, 1959.He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was honorably discharged with the rank of “Sergeant”. He was a police officer for the City of Hoisington for 13 years as a Captain. &nbsp; He was a postal worker for 38 years. &nbsp;He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was Grand Knight &amp; District Deputy. &nbsp;He was a volunteer for the Hoisington Fire Department for over 25 years. &nbsp;He was a Hunter Safety Instructor for 20 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; wife, Patricia McConnell; half-brothers; Warren Lee, Samuel, Kenneth McConnell, and Harley English and brother-in-law; Tom Call.

Survivors include children, Edwinda (Wayne) Day, Weldon (Karla) McConnell, Jan (Jody) Pfannenstiel, and Renee (Scott) Suppes; seven grandchildren, Miranda Flores, Kristen Flores and Erica (Robert) Harford, Dr. Sarah (Nate) Thomas, Nathan McConnell, Lauren Suppes and MaKayla Suppes; sisters-in-law, Luella Call, Rita Bahr, Jenelda Moore, and Frances Dietz; great-grandchildren, Dakotah and Colton Harlin, John, Matthew, Kallie, Lucas and Brook Harford; half-brothers and half- sisters, Paula Shelly, Frances, Forest and Kathy English and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia (Riley) McCue, of Grand Island, NE passed away on July 8, 2024, at Tabitha at Prairie Commons in Grand Island, Nebraska, at the age of 80. She was born on March 5,1944, in Wilmington, Delaware to Michael Jr. and Patricia (Smith) Riley. She was united in marriage to Robert McCue on August 9,1974, at the United Methodist Church in Stockton, Kansas. They were blessed with three daughters: Elizabeth, Kathleen, and Rebecca.

Patricia graduated from John Dickinson High School in Wilmington, Delaware in 1963. She enjoyed moving around the country with Robert for his work. She lived in South Dakota, Texas, Virginia, Utah, Nebraska and Colorado before retiring to Arizona where she enjoyed playing golf and various card games with the good friends she met there. After 12 years in Arizona, she moved to Nevada and then on to Delaware to spend time with her sisters. She also enjoyed traveling to spend time with family and friends.

Patricia was also an avid cruiser. She and Robert enjoyed 14 cruises together to Alaska, Europe, the Caribbean, Mexico, Canada and the Panama Canal. She also enjoyed a cruise to the Bahamas with her daughter Kathleen and a family cruise to Cabo San Lucas.

Left to cherish Patricia’s memory are her husband Robert of Grand Island, NE; daughters, Elizabeth (Patrick) Noel of Tobias, NE, Kathleen McCue of Grand Island, NE, and Rebecca (David) Franco of Denver, CO; five grandsons, Jacob Noel, Riley (Bria) Noel, Liam Noel, Seth Noel, and Micah Noel; two great-grandchildren, Emerson and Hudson Noel; and two sisters Kathleen Walker and Alice (Bud) Scott both of Middletown, Delaware.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael Jr. and Patricia; and her brother Micheal Riley III.

Allen Lloyd Graves, 80, died July 7, 2024, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas. He was born August 21, 1943, in Hoisington, Kansas, the son of James and Velma (Moore) Graves. &nbsp;In 1962 he graduated from Hoisington High School. He then served during the Vietnam War with the United States Navy from 1962 until 1966.&nbsp;

A lifetime Hoisington resident, Allen worked for Sound Control and later retired from the City of Hoisington as the water plant operator 3. He was a member of the V.F.W. and a former officer in the American Legion Post #286, Hoisington. &nbsp;An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he was proud to ride as a member of the Legion Riders. Allen spent time with his children hunting and fishing and coaching their sports teams. He also loved his appaloosa horses, and his Welsh corgi dogs, but especially loved attending all of his grandchildren’s events.

He is survived by his two children; Shawn (Christine) Graves of Topeka, and Stacey (Randy) Hitschmann of Beaver; and two sisters, Donna Ritchie of Ninety-Six, South Carolina, and Darleen Demel of Hoisington; a brother, Jimmy Graves of Herculaneum, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jason Vasquez of Claflin, Jennifer (A.J.) Medina of Castle Rock, Colorado, Nicole (Joe) Cotton, Natalie Graves, Ryan Graves, and Raelynn Graves, all of Topeka; and two great-grandchildren, Derrick and Naomi Cotton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother-in-law, Tom Demel.

Per Allen’s wishes cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the book now until service. Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

David Allen Sprecker, 90, passed away on June 29, 2024 in San Marcos, TX. David was born on May 22, 1934 in Goodland, Kansas. His parents were Albert and Carol Sprecker. He had one brother, Richard, and one sister, Caroline Scofield, Goodland, Kansas.

David’s family moved to the family farm south of Ruleton and Kanorado when David was five years old. He attended grades one through eight in Kanorado and in Ruleton. He graduated from Goodland High School in May 1953. He was active with his friends in Youth for Christ during his high school years.&nbsp;

David served in the Air Force from July 1954 to July 1957. He was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi and Otis Air Force Base, Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

He was interested and involved with farming and flying all his life. His lifelong hobbies have been building and flying radio-controlled airplanes, ultra-plane building and flying and motorcycling. He and his father Albert were flying farmers during 1940’s and early 1950’s. David and his three sons were very close and enjoyed similar interests throughout his life.

David married Joyce Calkins from Salina, Kansas on April 6, 1958. They were involved with the family farm until retirement in March 1995, moving to 610 Arcade Goodland, Kansas. In April 2023 he moved to San Marcos, Texas.

David was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, brother and infant daughter.&nbsp;

Surviving family include his three sons David Jr (Katherine), Americus, Kansas, Richard (Lori), San Marcos, TX, James (Debbie) Graniteville, SC, nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 10:30 AM MT at the Calvary Gospel Church in Goodland with Pastor Randy Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Jeffery V. "Munk" Scarborough, 57, earned his wings on July 7, 2024, with family and friends by his side. &nbsp;Jeff&nbsp;was born on January 29, 1967 in Houston, Texas. &nbsp;He grew up in Gorham, Kansas, and graduated from Gorham High School in the Class of ’85. Jeff was a master electrician and owned Jay Vee’s Electric for over 20 years. &nbsp;

Jeff met his wife, Kris Miller, in elementary school. &nbsp;They began dating in high school and were&nbsp;married on December 25, 1989. Jeff and Kris were&nbsp;the true definition of soulmates. In good times and bad they always came together and stuck by each other’s side. They were blessed with two children: Jessica and Luke.&nbsp;&nbsp;Jeff was incredibly proud of his children's accomplishments, and he always made sure they knew it.&nbsp;

During his life he had many titles: husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, but his favorite title was “Papa J”.&nbsp; Jeff’s memory will live on in the hearts of his five grandchildren: Eli, Dax, Colt, Caid, and Chloe.&nbsp;He loved nothing more than spending time with his kids and grandkids at the farm.&nbsp;&nbsp;In his spare time, Jeff also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Fat Boy, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, and camping at Lake Wilson.&nbsp;

Jeff was a remarkable man. He always believed when times got tough you just keep going, never quit. If he could tell us anything right now,&nbsp;he would say “don’t mourn my death. &nbsp;Remember everything I taught you and keep going: Scarborough Strong!”

Jeff’s surviving family includes his loving wife of 34 years and best friend, Kris Scarborough; children: Jessica (Blake) Stoppel and Luke (Katie) Scarborough; five grandchildren: Elijah Scarborough, Daxton Scarborough, Colt Stoppel, Caiden Scarborough, and Chloe Stoppel; his sister, Kelly (Eric) Reddig; brother-in-law, Bill (Dulce) Miller; nieces and nephews: Kylie Reddig, Hunter Reddig, Johnny (Erica) Keener, Jaelyn Keener, Nathan (Megan) Keener, Evan Keener, and Kelton Wallace; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.&nbsp;

Remembrance for Jeanne (Yoxall) Svedjan will be held on Tuesday, July 9 from 12:00-3:00pm at the Alton Methodist Church.

Jeanne (Yoxall) Svedjan passed away on February 16, 2024 at the age of 82.

Jeanne was born on November 9, 1941 in Beloit, Kansas to Everett and Edna Yoxall. The family lived on a rural farm outside of Alton, Kansas.

She attended Riverside School from grades 1-8. After graduating from Riverside, Jeanne went to Osborne High School. During high school, she was involved in Future Homemakers of America, Pep Club, head cheerleader, musical groups, Debate Club, acted in plays, and many more. Jeanne went on to attend her beloved Kansas State University where she received her BS in Vocational Home Economics Education. She would later receive her master’s degree in Vocational Administration from the University of Minnesota.

Jeanne’s first job after graduating college was as a Home Economics teacher at Stafford High School in Kansas. After teaching for a few years, she decided to take a job as a Home Service Representative for the People’s Natural Gas. This job required a move to Minnesota. Jeanne returned briefly to teaching before moving onto the Minnesota Technical College system where to worked on energy efficiency projects and grant writing. She also worked for the Minnesota Twins for 12 years as a supervisor in the Guest Services department.

Though Jeanne would spend the rest of her days living in Minnesota she always called Kansas her true home and visited every chance she could. Jeanne’s favorite way to spend her time was with her three children and their families. She loved to walk, garden, try new recipes, and sew.

The family lived on a rural farm outside of Alton, Kansas.She attended Riverside School from grades 1-8. After graduating from Riverside, Jeanne went to Osborne High School. During high school, she was involved in Future Homemakers of America, Pep Club, head cheerleader, musical groups, Debate Club, acted in plays, and many more. Jeanne went on to attend her beloved Kansas State University where she received her BS in Vocational Home Economics Education. She would later receive her master’s degree in Vocational Administration from the University of Minnesota.Jeanne’s first job after graduating college was as a Home Economics teacher at Stafford High School in Kansas. After teaching for a few years, she decided to take a job as a Home Service Representative for the People’s Natural Gas. This job required a move to Minnesota. Jeanne returned briefly to teaching before moving onto the Minnesota Technical College system where to worked on energy efficiency projects and grant writing. She also worked for the Minnesota Twins for 12 years as a supervisor in the Guest Services department.Though Jeanne would spend the rest of her days living in Minnesota she always called Kansas her true home and visited every chance she could. Jeanne’s favorite way to spend her time was with her three children and their families. Sharon Kay Wilson 76, of Edmond, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 6, 2024. She was born on October 27, 1947 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Sharon loved shopping and antiquing. She was a great homemaker and loved decorating her house, but also loved working for the highway patrol and the Department of Agriculture. She also loved spending time with her friends and family and making them smile. She had a strong faith and love for the Lord and always prayed for others. Sharon was married to Clifford Wilson for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her Mother, Harriett Pearl Biby, and her Father, Rex Biby. She is survived by her husband, Clifford Wilson; son, Derek Fuller, two granddaughters, Ashleigh Hargis and husband Geoff Hargis, and Chelon Clem, and two great-granddaughters, Ryleigh and Reagan; One sister, Dixie Thederan and husband, Carl Thederan; Two nieces, Danna Tanner and husband, Tim Tanner and Shelly Grigsby, and husband, Mike Grisby; Along with several other relatives and family.

Maribeth Ann (Middleton) Delehoy, aged 79, passed away Wednesday July 3, 2024, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, KS.

Maribeth was born May 16, 1945, to Ernest and Waneta (Roberts) Middleton. She was the second of four children including older sister Glenda (Bob) Seibert and younger siblings, Dale Middleton (Deb Johnson) and Gayle (Fred) Allen. The four of them were quite close and created many cherished memories together as kids and continued building those memories as they became adults and started raising families of their own. The four siblings were blessed to be able to raise their children in the same town for many years. After her sisters passed away Maribeth wanted to spend as much time as possible with her brother Dale.

Maribeth was a graduate of Goodland High School and attended Brown Mackey College in Salina KS. On June 14, 1964, she married the love of her life Gerold Delehoy. To this union four children were born, David (Sheila), of Brockton MA, Dana (Tim) Moss, of Selden KS, Douglas Delehoy, of Tuscaloosa AL, and Dustin Delehoy, formerly of Paris IL. She also considered Dana's best friend Sheila Williams a bonus daughter.

Maribeth was a loving mother to 4 children, grandmother to 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, a sister, an aunt to several nieces, nephews, and a friend to many throughout her life. She will be missed by those who knew her best.Some of Maribeth’s interests were going to the casinos, crossword/ crostyx puzzles, Native American history, and going to the movies. Maribeth enjoyed all genres of music and loved to dance. Some of her daughter's fondest memories of her were remembering how she used to dance in the house while listening to records. She and her daughter went on several “adventures” together as well as concerts and plays.

Maribeth also enjoyed golfing and painting, even though she didn't feel she was good at either one, she always made the most out of the time she spent doing the things she loved by creating as much laughter as she possibly could doing them. Many stories have been told about golf games with her sons and grandson Nathan. Her niece Tammy took her to painting classes at the Hays public library, oh the stories and belly laughs that have come from those classes and Maribeth’s “Nefertiti’s” cat painting are endless. She could “hang with the best of them” she used to say jokingly.

Debating or discussing politics with people was also something she liked to do, especially so with her two youngest sons. She spoke often of her trips to go visit her oldest son and the jokes he played on her and what a wonderful host he was.

To say Maribeth was extremely proud of the kind of people her children became and the families they have is truly an understatement. Maribeth repeatedly said how grateful and blessed she was to have the children she had and that she “didn't know what she would have ever done without them.”Her 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren were honestly her prized possessions. She enjoyed spending time with them playing games, teasing them and creating laughs galore with each of them. Her great-grandchildren became a whole new generation to share her life and love with and she tried to show that in as many ways as she could with the miles between them but mentioned many times how she “wished she lived closer to them all so they could get to know her better.”Maribeth was also very close to her many nieces and nephews as she watched them all grow into adults. Maribeth always made time for anyone in the family who needed a shoulder to cry on, advice, or just to have someone to hang with when needed.

She was preceded in death by her great grandparents Robert and Pauline Roberts; her parents Ernest and Waneta Middleton; her forever love Gerold Delehoy; her sisters, Glenda Seibert and Gayle Allen; and her youngest son Dustin Delehoy.

Shirley Jean Svaty, 88, of Lucas, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024.

Shirley was born on January 28, 1936, on the family farm in Lincoln County. She was one of eight children born to Clyde and Velma (Yarnell) Mettlen. She grew up in the Lucas area. She attended Lucas High School.

Shirley was united in marriage to Melvin Svaty on August 24, 1952, in Lucas. Their union resulted in 4 children, Lori, Lynn, Melvin, and Michael.

Shirley became a homemaker on her and Melvin’s farm north of Lucas, but, she was so much more than a homemaker. She was an amazing quilter, she taught herself to paint pictures and was always designing something for her husband Melvin or son Michael to build. After her children were grown and left home Shirley ventured off the farm to work at many of the businesses in Lucas, including but not limited to; Lucas Nursing Home, K-18 Cafe, Luray-Lucas Elementary School, Troy’s Grocery, Hay Plant, and others. Shirley was known for being a hard worker, rarely did you see her sitting and doing nothing.

Shirley’s surviving family includes; daughters Lori (Gary)Ward of Lucas, and Lynn (Gene) Angel of Paradise, son Michael (Stephanie) Svaty of Sylvan Grove; sisters Bernadine Minear Lincoln, Joan (Tony) Farndale San Carlos, California, brother Larry (Verna) Mettlen Lincoln, 9 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces &amp; nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Merle Svaty, son Melvin Merle Svaty Jr., Son in Law Gary Gene Ward, grandson Joshua Ward, brothers, William Alexander Mettlen, Billy Jack Mettlen, Max Robert Mettlen, Delmar Mettlen, and her parents.

Laura Marie (Waechter) Heeke, 94, born in Kearny County, Kansas on Feb. 3rd, 1930 to Leland and Della (Elliott) Waechter, went to be with our Lord on June 25th, 2024. She grew up in the Menno Community south of Lakin, Kansas in Kearny County with her 3 brothers, Walter, Carl and Harold and her sister Freda. She attended primary school in a one-room school house nearby, St. John’s High School Academy in Winfield, Kansas, graduating in 1947, and St. John’s College.

On September 7th, 1950, she married Merle Heeke. She and Merle made their home in Lakin, Kansas then moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1960, where they raised their eight children.

She is survived by seven daughters, Jeanne (Lyndon) Lange of Victoria, Texas, Barbara (Steve) Hawkinson, Carol (John) O’Donnell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ellen (Gregg) Graham of Monument, Colorado, Janeece Heeke of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Janelle (Eddie) Neuman of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Beverly (Kevin) Scott of Monument, Colorado; her daughter-in-law Linda (Heeke) Rahjes of Kensington, Kansas, her brother Harold Waechter of Garden City, Kansas, 14 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, her son, Dennis Heeke, and sons-in-law Steve Hawkinson and Eddie Neuman; brothers, Walter Waechter and Carl Waechter, and sister Freda McVey. As a homemaker, she spent many years being involved in her husband’s and children’s lives as a wonderful cook, an expert pie-baker, a 4-H leader, a seamstress, a driving instructor, and so much more.

Her patience, kindness and friendliness welcomed anyone into her home as if they were family. She was very intelligent and had a passion for education which she instilled in her children. She and Merle spent many summers traveling with the family and eventually on their own, making it to all 50 states. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and they loved her sense of humor and yummy breakfast!

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where services will be held. Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday July 13, 2024 Lakin Cemetery in Lakin, Kansas with Rev Peter Tran officiating. Friends may call from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM Saturday prior to the service at Garnand Funeral Home in Lakin. James P. Grossardt, D.V.M. (age 76) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas died Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

Jim was born December 26, 1947 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Harold C. and Vivian E. (Radenberg) Grossardt. He graduated from Claflin High School in 1965 and later earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1971 from Kansas State University.

 </figure>James P. Grossardt, D.V.M. (age 76) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas died Wednesday, July 3, 2024.Jim was born December 26, 1947 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Harold C. and Vivian E. (Radenberg) Grossardt. He graduated from Claflin High School in 1965 and later earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1971 from Kansas State University.Jim served as rank of Captain in the Army Veterinary Corp from 1971 to 1973, stationed at Fort Snelling, St. Paul, MinnesotaOn May 28, 1972, he married Linda A Hoffman in Lawrence, Kansas. A daughter Jill and son Mark were born to this union.In 1974, Jim purchased a mixed animal veterinary practice in Minden, Nebraska and was a solo practitioner for forty years. He was a member of AVMA and NVMA. Jim served on the Minden school board for eight years as well as serving on the Minden Opera House board. His love of music was expressed through the Minden Community Players where he performed in many musical productions. He was a member of the Minden and Siloam Springs Rotary clubs for over 45 years.Jim was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Minden, Nebraska and the New Life Church in Kearney, Nebraska. Throughout this time, he served as a lay pastor, board member, and 3rd grade and senior high Sunday school teacher. He served as an AWANA leader, with Walk to Emmaus retreats, and during Summer camps at Camp Comeca.Upon retirement, volunteering made his life rich. He was a volunteer at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital Auxiliary in the material management department as well as New Life Ranch and Siloam's community Joy Choir.
