Dianne L. Merz, 74, passed away at Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, CO on July 25, 2021.

Dianne was born on September 9, 1946, in Goodland, KS to Lyman and 
Virgiline (Duell) Amos.&nbsp; Dianne attended and Graduated Goodland High 
School with a diploma in 1964. Dianne then went to Fort Hays for 3 years
 then continued her education in Washburn, KS where she got her 
Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1969.&nbsp; On June 26th, 1966 Dianne 
married Doyl Merz at the First United Methodist Church in Goodland, KS. 
The couple adopted two sons when they were newborns Steven in 1973 and 
Kevin Merz in 1975.

Dianne started her teaching career in 1969 and continued teaching for
 30 years in the Lawrence, KS school district. Dianne retired in 2008 to
 come back to Goodland, KS to take care of her elderly mother.&nbsp; Dianna’s
 passion was her family, Dianne learned to fly and had her pilots 
license where she would fly mostly in Eastern Kansas. Dianne also 
started a T-Shirt business with aviation designs. Dianne enjoyed her 
flower garden, silk screening, cake decorating, Stain glass, and 
reading.

She was preceded in death by her parents and Grandparents.

Surviving family includes her husband Doyl Merz, her two sons Steven 
(Melissa) Merz of Springfield, MO, Kevin Merz of Lawrence, KS. One 
grandchild Robert Merz of Lawrence, KS. Brothers&nbsp; Ron (Kathy) Amos of 
Mound City, MO, Dan (Karen) Amos of Nixi, MO. Sister Linda (Walt) 
Linthacum of Goodland, KS.

Oma Lee Sharp, 84, passed away July 25, 2021, at her home in Great 
Bend. She was born March 12, 1937, in Pawnee county, Okla. to Elmer 
&amp; Myrtle (Broughton) Heilmann. She married LeRoy Sharp in 1981, at 
Great Bend. He died August 7, 2005.

Oma was a route driver for Sunflower Diversified Services until she 
retired. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. She 
enjoyed flower gardening and especially loved her canine friend, Sandy.

Survivors include, her sons, Scott Wilkinson (Maxine) and John 
Wilkinson all of Great Bend, Richard Wilkinson (Ruth) of Garden City, 
and Mike Williams (Amanda) of Hutchinson; her daughters, Teresa 
Hannaford of Emporia, and Kim Mendez (Juan) of Great Bend; 12 
grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Glenn Taylor; 
her husband, LeRoy Sharp; a son, Steven Wilkinson; a daughter, Diane 
Ramos; two brothers, Floyd Heilmann and Raymond Heilmann; and a sister, 
Lela Stillabower.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m.,
 Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Michael Espinosa 
presiding. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.

Dean G. Seems, age 91, passed away on Tuesday July 27, 2021, at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS. Dean was born the son of James &amp; Ellen Gibeau. He was a farmer.

Scott Edward Deines, 46, passed away July 25, 2021, in Great Bend. He
 was born November 16, 1974, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Herman F. Deines Jr.
 &amp; Alice J. (Clark) Deines.

Coming from Colorado, Scott had lived in Great Bend for the last 
three months. He was a construction laborer. Scott enjoyed fishing, 
working on cars and collecting baseball cards. He had many life-long 
friends from high school that he kept in touch with.

Survivors include, his mother, Alice Deines of Great Bend; his 
siblings, Sheryl Stickler of Great Bend, Tammy DiManna and husband Terry
 of Brighton, Colo., Frank Deines III and wife Shannon of Great Bend, 
and Derek Deines and wife Rachel of Firestone, Colo.; and nine nieces 
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Deines Jr.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9:00 p.m. Thursday July 29, 
2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 
to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday July 30,

Gary Dean Cooley, 72, of Hays, KS died 
Sunday, July 25, 2021, at HaysMed - Hays.&nbsp;Gary was born February 12, 1949,&nbsp; in Great Bend, KS to Dean Elmer and Georgia Mae (Schwab) Cooley and was
 a graduate of LaCrosse High School. In 1981 he married Connie Rose in 
Boulder, CO and would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this August 
1.

Gary was a lifelong musician, a member 
of the Kansas Music Hall of Fame, and a co-founder of The Home Cookin' 
Band with his sweetheart, Connie.&nbsp;They could be found performing at 
weddings and single's dances all over western Kansas.&nbsp;Another passion of
 Gary's was photography, as well as spending time with his 
grandchildren, cheering on the KU Jayhawks, the Kansas City Chiefs, and 
Royals.

Gary is survived by his wife: Connie of
 Hays, KS; sons: Brandon (Sarah) of Hays, KS; Gabriel (Christine) of 
Sonoma, CA; three grandchildren; and a sister: Fran Payne of 
Mississippi.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary Dean Cooley

Craig
 Heald, 58, was born into eternal life on July 24, 2021.&nbsp; Craig was 
raised on the family farm in Minneapolis, Kansas, where he graduated from
 Minneapolis High School with the class of 1981.

He
 attended college at Fort Hays, and later enlisted in the U.S. Air 
Force. He was stationed at F.E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, Wyoming during 
his 22-year career.&nbsp; He served with distinction in several positions and
 earned numerous awards before retiring as the Superintendent of the 
400th Missile Squadron.

Craig
 met and married his wife Heidi in 1990 while they were stationed there.
 After he retired from the military, he continued to serve by becoming a
 teacher.&nbsp; He was a natural teacher and a wonderful mentor to so many of
 his students.&nbsp;

He
 was a member St. Mary’s Catholic church where he and Heidi renewed 
their wedding vows, and he was confirmed in the Catholic Faith in 2018. 
He was a wonderful, caring, devoted, and loving husband to Heidi and a 
genuinely kind person to those he met or knew.

Craig
 recently moved to Houston, Texas to be near his son and his family. He 
continued to teach in Houston bringing his humor and compassion to 
students in class. He was both a teacher and a stable role model to all 
of his students.

He
 is survived by his wife, Heidi; son, Chris (Sara) and grandchildren, 
Ellie Mae and Henry of Houston, TX; parents, Gerald Heald of Winters, CA
 and Llewellen (Lou) (Ron) Weis; sister, Rondee (Clyde) Thrush of 
Minneapolis, KS and brother, Ron (Lisa) Weis of Bennington, KS; nephews,
 Zach (Casey) Weis of Salina, KS and Jesse Weis of Phoenix, AZ; and

Kirk Lyle Mitchell, 56, of Osborne, KS, passed away on Friday, July 
23, 2021, in Osborne County, KS. &nbsp;Kirk was born on September 24, 1964, in 
Smith Center, KS to Doyle &amp; Lola (O'Connor) Mitchell. &nbsp;He was one of
 several children.

Kirk was a cabinet maker by trade. &nbsp;He has worked for Smith Cabinet 
of Farmington, AR, and cabinet maker in Wichita, KS as well as building 
cabinets on his own. &nbsp;Recently, he has been working at Midway Coop of 
Osborne, KS.

Kirk was an outdoorsman. &nbsp;He loved to fish &amp;&nbsp;go hunting, and 
spend time with his fiance', Becky Snook.&nbsp; Kirk was a hard working man 
and was always there for his family or friends, especially if they 
needed any help.

Kirk loved his children and grandchildren. &nbsp;

Kirk was preceded in death by his parents.

Sharon Lee Shaw

Gloria Ann Dockstader, 82, of Bunker Hill, Kansas, died on Thursday, 
July 22, 2021, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Russell, 
Kansas.

Gloria was born on March 18, 1939, on the family farm in Bunker Hill,
 Kansas, the daughter of Guy and Elenore (Sharp) Duvall.&nbsp; The youngest 
of 10 kids she grew up on the farm known today as Duvall Cove and 
graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1957, and later graduated from
 Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; She met fell in love and was 
united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Louis Dockstader on September 14, 
1962 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union Gloria and Robert were blessed
 with two daughters, Patty and Elizabeth.&nbsp; They made their home in rural
 Russell, Kansas, north of Bunker Hill.&nbsp; She worked as a homemaker and 
farm wife, working together with her husband on the family farm. &nbsp;Bob 
preceded her in death on October 05, 2005.&nbsp; After Bob’s passing, for 
many years, she continued to enjoy raising cattle and horses.&nbsp; She also 
enjoyed driving around the country roads, seeing family and spending 
time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving family include her daughters Elizabeth Krape and husband 
Tad of St. Lucie, Florida and Patty Krape of Russell, Kansas;&nbsp; 2

July 22, 2021, at the Homestead Assisted Living Center in Russell, 
Kansas.Gloria was born on March 18, 1939, on the family farm in Bunker Hill,
 Kansas, the daughter of Guy and Elenore (Sharp) Duvall.&nbsp; The youngest 
of 10 kids she grew up on the farm known today as Duvall Cove and 
graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1957, and later graduated from
 Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska.&nbsp; She met fell in love and was 
united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Louis Dockstader on September 14, 
1962 in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; From this union Gloria and Robert were blessed
 with two daughters, Patty and Elizabeth.&nbsp; They made their home in rural
 Russell, Kansas, north of Bunker Hill.&nbsp; She worked as a homemaker and 
farm wife, working together with her husband on the family farm. &nbsp;Bob 
preceded her in death on October 05, 2005.&nbsp; After Bob’s passing, for 
many years, she continued to enjoy raising cattle and horses.&nbsp; She also 
enjoyed driving around the country roads, seeing family and spending 
time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Surviving family include her daughters Elizabeth Krape and husband 
Tad of St. Lucie, Florida and Patty Krape of Russell, Kansas;&nbsp; 2 
grandchildren Ashley Hopper and husband Jeremy of Russell, Kansas and

Betty Joan Bailey Firestone, age 87, of Kearney, Missouri, formerly of 
Colby, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021, at Oak Pointe Senior 
Living. 
Betty was born January 10th, 1934, in Iowa City, Iowa, and grew up in 
Marshalltown, Iowa, Harrisonville, Missouri, and Butler, Missouri. She 
attended college at Central Missouri State from 1952-1954 before moving 
to Kansas City, Missouri where she worked at Katy Drug Store. She then 
attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing from 1955 to 1956. 
Betty was united in marriage to Jim Firestone in March of 1956, in Butler, Missouri. 
In 1957, the couple moved to Kansas City where Betty worked at Hallmark 
Cards. Jim and Betty moved to Sedalia, Missouri, before finally settling 
in Colby, Kansas, in September of 1966, where they made their home and 
raised their family for the next forty plus years. 
In Colby, Betty worked for Montgomery Wards, J.C. Penney’s, Colby Bowl 
and spent ten years at Palace Drug Store. During their time in Colby, 
Jim and Betty owned and operated the Coast to Coast Hardware store in 
downtown, where they proudly served their community. 
Betty attended the First Presbyterian Church in Colby. Betty and Jim 
were huge supporters of the Colby Community College Women’s basketball 
program, Colby High School sports, and the St. Louis Cardinals. She 
volunteered as a Pink Lady at Citizen’s Medical Center and assisted in 
numerous community events and fundraisers. 
Betty enjoyed cooking, reading, listening to music, watching all kinds 
of sports and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. 
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Jim Firestone. She is 
survived by her children, Lealand (Crystal) Firestone, of Wichita, Lisa 
(Bob) Brown, of Kearney, Missouri, and Lorie (Sal Montalto) Firestone, 
of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Jory (Katie) Firestone, of 
Alexandria, Virginia, Talia (Jonathan) Patterson, of Wichita, Kansas, 
Bailey (Scott) McCoy, of Smithville, Missouri, and Camille (Devon) 
Kennard, of Phoenix, Arizona, and eight great grandchildren. 
A Funeral Service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2021,

Betty Joan Bailey Firestone

Norma Jean DeYoung, 92, passed away on July 23, 2021, at the Redbud Village in Plainville, KS. She was born to Frank and Neva (Reese) Noah on March 1, 1929, in Center, Colorado.

Jean was a lifetime Graham County resident. She attended Palco High School and graduated salutatorian with the class of 1947. She was united in marriage to Milfred DeYoung on August 20, 1947, at the Redline Church of God. The couple was blessed with three children, whom they raised on their Redline farm near Palco. Jean was a proud farm wife. She loved living in the country, making sure her home was well-kept and the family was fed with her delicious homemade meals. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano and playing board games. &nbsp;

Jean was a faith-filled woman who devoted her life to her family and the Lord. She taught Sunday School and Bible School classes for many years, made meals for church events, and was involved in mission work. She was a bright light for anyone that met her. Jean had a welcoming smile, a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh. May her legacy be a reminder for us to live through Christ’s teachings, love one another deeply, and laugh often.

She is survived by her children; Marsha (Dale) Newell of Hays, KS, Phil (Jo) DeYoung of Colby, KS, Debra (Scott) Unrein of Denver, CO; siblings, Kent (Jeanine) Noah of Wichita, KS, and Deanna Melendez of Hays, KS; two grandchildren, Ian and Jules Unrein; and a great-grandchild, Sullivan Dean Unrein.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Neva Noah; husband, Milfred DeYoung; and siblings, Frankie Ruder, LaVina Ferrier, and Barbara Warren.

Lucida "Luci" Agnes (Walters) Sullivan, age 78, of Olathe, Kansas passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Luci was born on January 22, 1943, in Hays, KS to Celestina Hertel and Fidelis A. Walters. She graduated from Girls Catholic High in 1961. Then attended Fort Hays State University, earning a B.S. in elementary education in 1966.

She married Terrence Sullivan on June 4, 1966, and moved to Pittsburg, Kansas, in 1970. After retiring in 2008, she moved to Olathe, Kansas, where she enjoyed being close to her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Jill M. Ney (Jeff) of Overland Park, Kansas; two sons, Jeffrey A. Sullivan (Amanda) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and Ryan J. Sullivan (Melissa) of Falcon, Colorado; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Erma, and one daughter Carrie.

Visitation will be from 10:00 - 10:45 am on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 21650 W. 115th Terrace, Olathe, Kansas. Rosary will follow at 10:45, then Mass at 11:00 with Fr. Michael Hermes as celebrant. Luci's remains will be interred at Leavenworth National Cemetery at a later date in a private ceremony.

Ralph Frederick Voss, 78, of Hoover, Alabama, passed away Friday afternoon, July 23, 2021. He was born April 7, 1943, in Lyons, Kansas, to Albert Frederick and Irene Adams Voss.

His education in the public schools of Lyons and Plainville, Kansas, Fort Hays State University, and the University of Texas at Austin prepared him for his lifelong career as an educator.

Voss taught at the high school in La Crosse, Kansas; Texas A&amp;M University at Commerce; Atlanta Junior College; and the University of Utah before serving for 31 years at the University of Alabama. His academic specializations included Rhetoric I, Composition, and American dramatic literature, and he authored writing textbooks, books about the American playwrights William Inge and Tennessee Williams, and a book about Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, as well as numerous articles in his academic specializations.

Voss was the recipient of the Eugene Current-Garcia Excellence in Scholarship Award given by the Association of English Teachers of Alabama; the Distinguished Tennessee Williams Scholar Award given by the Tennessee Williams Festival of Columbus, Mississippi; and the Jerome Lawrence Award for Distinguished Contributions to the American Theater, given by the William Inge Theater Festival. He was nominated three times for the University of Alabama Judy Bonner Excellence in Teaching Award, given by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

Among his lifelong interests were maintaining friendships with people he knew from everywhere he had ever lived and worked, popular music, singing, strumming his guitar, and going to movies. He loved to read biographies and histories, and after his retirement in 2009 he continued to teach senior courses and make presentations for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute's Greater Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama chapters. He was a regular participant at the William Inge Theater Festival in Independence, Kansas; and Tennessee Williams Theater Festivals in Columbus and Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Voss is survived by his wife, Glenda Weathers of the home in Birmingham, Alabama; sons, John Voss of Knoxville, Tennessee, Walker Voss of Hays, Kansas, and Collin Voss of Cullman, Alabama; and four grandchildren, Alexandra and Zachary Voss of Knoxville, and Kyler and Kash Voss of Hays.

Cindy Laverentz, 56, died Saturday, July 24, 2021, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City.

She was born June 1, 1965, at Dodge City, the daughter of Richard 
James and Marie Helen (Baier) Millershaski.&nbsp; She was a graduate of 
Ingalls High School and received her Associates Degree from Garden City 
Community College.&nbsp; She was a lifetime area resident, she worked at Kids
 World Day Care in Cimarron and was a school bus driver and worked in 
grounds maintenance for USD 477 in Ingalls for many years.&nbsp;

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Ingalls and enjoyed arts
 &amp; crafts, crocheting, going to the lake and Peanuts Cartoons.

Survivors include: 3 sons, Scott Laverentz, Woodward, Tom Laverentz, 
Woodward and Rick Laverentz, WaKeeney; her mother, Marie Millershaski, 
Ingalls; a granddaughter, Thea Laverentz; 4 brothers, Bruce Millershaski
 and wife Karrie, Montezuma, Gary Millershaski and wife Jana, Lakin, 
Ralph Millershaski and wife Pam, Ingalls and Greg Millershaski, Ingalls;
 her sister, Sandy Myers, Cimarron; and several nephews and nieces.

Rosary will be at 7:00 pm Thursday, July 29, 2021, at St. Stanislaus

Wilda Jean Jantz, 86, departed this life on July 22, 2021, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas.

She was born March 10, 1935, in Utica Kansas, the daughter of Hubert Wayne and Alice Amelia Lohoff Deighton.

An area resident since 1980, she was a Mental Health Aide at Larned 
State Hospital. She was a member of the Larned United Methodist Church, 
VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, Dodge City 
Boot Hill Bells, Beta Gamma Sorority, and the Rebekah Lodge where she 
was the youngest to hold the honor of Noble Grand. She loved to visit 
and treasured her time with family and friends. Wilda truly loved her 
pets, especially her cats and dogs.&nbsp;&nbsp; Playing cards, gardening, bird 
watching, cooking, baking, and traveling were her favorite past times.

On April 26, 1985, she married the love of her life, Bruce Jantz, at Miami, Oklahoma; he preceded her in death on April 2, 2008.

Survivors include: two daughters, Pamela (Kenny) Adams, Pueblo West, 
Colorado, Lisa (Randy) Jacobs, Scott City; step daughter, Leann (Kevin) 
Simmons, Larned; step son, Mark Jantz, Garden City; four grandchildren, 
Jeremy (Racquel) Jacobs, Azure (Aaron) Miller, Tara (Shane) Dohrmann, 
Nick (DeDe) Adams; six step grandchildren, Ty (Allisa) Racette, Brandon 
Racette, Michael (Emily) Racette, Chad (Molly) Simmons, Christa (Mike) 
Reed, Brett (Tonya) Simmons; fourteen great grandchildren: Micah, Judah,
 Lily, Elijah, Kohen, Kinley, Kade, Kase, Connor, Coulter, Zoe, 
Brekston, Bentley, Briley; and seven step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother, Bobby Deighton, and a great grandson, Keaton Miller.

Memorial graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, August 30, 
2021 at Larned Cemetery with Jeremy Jacobs, presiding. Inurnment will be
 in Larned Cemetery.

Birney Joseph Feldt passed away at Parker Adventist Hospital, Parker,

 On April 19, 1980, in Leoville, Kansas, Birney married the love of 
his life and best friend, Virginia (Zodrow) Feldt. They were blest with
 two daughters, Angela and Erin. 
 After 36 years of living and raising their family in Hoxie, Birney 
and Virginia made the difficult decision to leave the only place they 
had ever called home to embark on a new journey in Kearney, NE. 
 Birney had many hobbies that kept him busy. He always had a passion 
for farming and raising animals. He loved raising cattle and pigs. He 
was co-owner of Elevated Pastures, a custom poultry and pork farm in 
Colorado. He enjoyed playing golf and visiting new golf courses. In 
the spring, Birney would enjoy fishing and going to the lake. He enjoyed
 opening weekend of pheasant hunting with friends and family. His 
biggest joy, however, came from spending time with his wife, Virginia. 
He loved his wife, girls, and grandchildren, and they were the most 
important thing in the world to him.
 Birney was a member St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Hoxie, 
Kansas; Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Kearney, Nebraska; Our Lady of 
the Visitation Catholic Church, Elizabeth, CO, Knights of Columbus, and 
Hoxie Golf Club. 
 Birney is survived by his daughters Angela Paulsen and her husband 
Jeff of Lincoln, Nebraska; Erin Bieker and her husband Brent of 
Elizabeth, Colorado; grandchildren, Hayden Bieker, Jacob Paulsen, Tessa 
Bieker, Jace Paulsen; his mother, Leona Feldt, brothers, Terry Feldt and
 wife Kathleen, and Tom Feldt and wife Paulette, Hoxie, Kansas.
 He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Feldt; father, Robert Feldt, and in-laws Seraphine and Florence Zodrow.
 A funeral service is planned for Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the St.

Robert Louis Berens, age 90, of WaKeeney, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021, at Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital. Robert was born December 9, 1930, to Louis and Rose (Hazelhorst) Berens in Collyer, Kansas.&nbsp;

After graduating high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1951, proudly serving his country in Korea before his discharge in December of 1954. On October 16, 1962, Robert was united in marriage to Joan Ziegler, and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage. To their union, two children were born. Robert loved his farm and took great pride in his work and his cattle.

Robert was a member of the VFW, American Legion, and church council. He was on the board of directors for the Federal Land Bank, served as a volunteer firefighter, and loved sports, especially those involving K-State. He also loved to dance with his wife, adored his grandchildren, and loved to spend time with them, and enjoyed having hunters out to the farm every year to visit and chat with them. Robert was a very kind and loving father, and will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.

Robert is survived by his wife Joan; son Glenn (Lori) Buchholz of El Dorado, Kansas; daughter Melissa (Max) Atwood of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren Morgan Buchholz of Nashville, Tennessee, Brandon (Julianne) Atwood of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Gregory Atwood (and fiancé Cali) of Gardner, Kansas; and sisters Darlene Stenzel of Overland Park, Kansas, Joan Deges of Aurora, Colorado, and Karen Coons of Sebastian, Florida.

Those preceding Robert in death are both parents; and sisters Mary Lou Goetz, and Gloriann Goodman.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 29, 2021, at Christ the King Catholic Church in WaKeeney with Father Charles Steier as celebrant.

 Isabel (Householter) Breault, age 101.5, of Concordia, passed away on 
Friday July 23, 2021, at Mt. Joseph Senior Village, after a short stay.&nbsp;
 She was born on January 4, 1920, in Rice, Kansas to Debolt M. 
Householter and Hattie Evelyn (Cross) Householter.&nbsp; Her uncle, Dr. 
Hebert Doty, delivered her at the Rice home.&nbsp;

Gertrude
 graduated from Concordia High School in 1938. She then attended Emporia
 State Teacher's College for one year. After that, she moved back to 
Concordia and worked at the law firm of Stanford and Brummett as a 
secretary. The following year, she began working for Concordia Ice and 
Cold Storage Company as a bookkeeper for over a decade. In 1962, she 
began a career at Kansas Power and Light Company, where she stayed until
 her retirement in 1989.

Gertrude
 belonged to VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Women of the 
Moose, Women’s Division of the Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Church 
Altar Society, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Board 
Member National Orphan Train, Finesse Bridge Club, Delta Dek Bridge 
Club, Red Hat Society, and was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help 
Catholic Church for nearly 80 years. Gertrude received many awards in 
her lifetime including:&nbsp; 2011 Leon Gennette Lifetime Achievement Award 
for community service, held various offices in all her organizations, 
and volunteered countless hours to many worthwhile charities in 
Concordia.

Gertrude
 married LeRoy Sylvester Breault on November 9, 1942. They made their 
home in Concordia.&nbsp; To this union, five children were born:&nbsp; Anne 
Loretta Stone, Concordia; David Lee, Tallahassee, Florida; John Paul, 
Concordia; Dr. Mark Edward, Jamestown; Catherine Marie (Kevin) Harris, 
Beloit. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Lori Samuelson, 
Denver CO; Bria Scott (Adam), Minneapolis KS; Dustin Breault (Dr. 
Dorothy), Concordia, KS; Bradyn Breault (Sheryl), Topeka, KS; Destiny 
Bowers (Brice), Concordia, KS, Trask Breault, Jamestown, KS; Paxton 
Harris, Hays, KS; Camden Harris, Hays, KS; Blayne Harris, Hays, KS; and 
one step-grandchild; Chad Harris (Megan), Dallas, TX. Great 
grandchildren are Alexa, Mason, and Elle Scott; Tierney, Teagan, and 
McKenzie Breault; Keygan and Miley Breault; Georgianna, Lollie Mae, and 
Minnie Bowers; Ziley Hope; and Colby Harris.

Gertrude
 loved reading, traveling, playing bridge, and volunteering around 
Concordia. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends and family; 
especially eating out and enjoying all sorts of desserts! Her favorite 
gift was receiving cards and she saved every single one.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, parents Debolt and Hattie, and her infant sister, Patricia.

 Gertrude I. Breault

James R. Lofland, 95, passed away July 24, 2021, at Hospice House, 
Hutchinson. He was born April 7, 1926, in Stafford, KS, the son of James
 P. &amp; Leah (Keesling) Lofland. On June 18, 1949, he married Joyce L.
 Mohr in Wichita. She died October 5, 2019.

James lived most of his life in Great Bend. He worked for American 
Electric until he retired in 1986. He was also self employed with Jim’s 
Lawn Service and continued working his business into his 80’s. James was
 an active member and trustee of Central Baptist Church and a member of 
the American Legion Post #180. He always had a story to tell and anyone 
who met him most likely heard one or two of them. James was a veteran of
 the United States Navy, having served during WWII.

James is survived by his children, Janna Huschka and husband Kurt of 
Hutchinson, Jill Hopper and husband Derrel of Arvada,&nbsp;Colo., Jerry 
Lofland and wife Paige of Great Bend, and Jackie Goosen and husband 
LoWayne of Freeman, SD; his sisters, Darlene Unruh of Houston, Tex., and
 Mayme DuBois of Oberlin; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 
James was preceeded in death by his parents; his children, James Lofland
 and Julia Barnes; his brother, Arthur Lofland; and his sisters, Pauline
 Crowley, Alice Biskeborn, Letha Luther and Elise Hiss.

There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Memorial 
services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Central 
Baptist Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

 </figure>James R. Lofland, 95, passed away July 24, 2021, at Hospice House, 
Hutchinson. He was born April 7, 1926, in Stafford, KS, the son of James
 P. &amp; Leah (Keesling) Lofland. On June 18, 1949, he married Joyce L.
 Mohr in Wichita. She died October 5, 2019.James lived most of his life in Great Bend. He worked for American 
Electric until he retired in 1986. He was also self employed with Jim’s 
Lawn Service and continued working his business into his 80’s. James was
 an active member and trustee of Central Baptist Church and a member of 
the American Legion Post #180. He always had a story to tell and anyone 
who met him most likely heard one or two of them. James was a veteran of
 the United States Navy, having served during WWII.James is survived by his children, Janna Huschka and husband Kurt of 
Hutchinson, Jill Hopper and husband Derrel of Arvada,&nbsp;Colo., Jerry 
Lofland and wife Paige of Great Bend, and Jackie Goosen and husband 
LoWayne of Freeman, SD; his sisters, Darlene Unruh of Houston, Tex., and
 Mayme DuBois of Oberlin; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. 
James was preceeded in death by his parents; his children, James Lofland
 and Julia Barnes; his brother, Arthur Lofland; and his sisters, Pauline
 Crowley, Alice Biskeborn, Letha Luther and Elise Hiss.There will be no visitation, as cremation has taken place.&nbsp; Memorial 
services will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Central 
Baptist Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

William Theodore “Bill” Francis passed away on Thursday July 22, 2021, at the Ellsworth County Medical Center at the age of 87.
 He was born in Lucas, Ks to Theo “Red” and Ethel (Searle) Francis on June 8. 1934.
 Bill graduated from Lucas High School with the class of 1952, 
shortly after he was united in Marriage to Twila Naegele on his Birthday
 June 8, 1952. The couple was blessed with three children: Russ, Karma 
and Glenda.
 He resided on the farm south of Lucas as a farmer and Dairyman for 
over 40 years. If he wasn’t farming or milking Cows he was traveling to 
farm machinery sales trying to find a “Good” buy or following sporting 
events. Some of his farm buying ventures was flying in his Cessna plane 
that he and his best friend purchased together.
 Bill also had a love for Music. He would grab his guitar and play 
with numerous country bands in the area. After retiring from farming, he
 pursued his singing with one of his dear friends and started a band 
known as “The Good Ole Boys."&nbsp; A few years later his daughter joined the
 group and they became known as B &amp; G Country.
 To those who knew him well, he was always willing to lend a helping 
hand and offer a humorous comment making people laugh and smile!
 He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo and Ethel Francis, one Grandson Clint Francis and a brother-in-law Paul Kelly.
 Survivors are Twila Francis of the home in Lucas; children, Russ 
Francis, Karma Habiger, Glenda (Mark) Buttenhoff of Lucas; sister, 
Almeta Kelly Sylvan Grove; four grandchildren, Jade Ward, Kayla 
McGinnes, Logan and Layne Buttenhoff; two great grandchildren, Chalee 
and Gage Francis.
 A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 10:30AM at the funeral home in Wilson.

Lifelong, Goodland, KS resident Robert “Bob” Anderson Bradshaw Jr., 84, passed away at this home in Goodland on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

Bob was born on July 15, 1937, in Goodland, KS to Robert Anderson and Caroline Alice (Ming) Bradshaw.&nbsp; He attended and graduated school in Goodland .&nbsp; On June 2nd, 1957 he married Velta Marie Farr in Raton New Mexico.

Bob was a lifelong farmer and rancher.&nbsp; He especially had a love for cattle, and was a member of the American Cattle Association.&nbsp; He also loved going to Cripple Creek, Black Hawk and the National Western Stock Show.

Surviving family includes his wife Velta of the home in Goodland, his children Cynthia (Mike) Hoelting of Kansas City, KS, Robin (Mike) Ginther of Overland Park, KS, Rod Bradshaw of Salina, KS and Debbie (Ronnie) Reed of Goodland, KS.&nbsp; He is also survived by his 7 grandchildren; Heather (Chris) Handlin, Michael Hoelting, Jr., Clayton Ginther, Ryan (Megan) Bradshaw, Tyler (Katelyn) Bradshaw, Marysa (Justin) McCartney and Austin Bradshaw, as well as 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10:30 AM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Goodland with Pastor Brent Flanders officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery.

Robert 'Bob' Anderson Bradshaw Jr.

Bernice Amelia (Ruder) Unrein, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 17, 2021, in Overland Park, KS.

Bernice was born August 3, 1928, in Hays, KS, to Carl and Rosa (Rupp)
 Ruder and delivered by her future father-in-law, Dr. Gerard Unrein. 
Bernice grew up on the family farm south of Hays and her parents 
eventually moved to town when she was in high school. She graduated from
 Girls Catholic High School in 1946 and worked as a telephone operator 
until her first child was born.

Bernice met the love of her life, Francis Alfred Unrein, in high 
school and they were married on June 7, 1948, in Hays. They were happily
 married for 69 years until Francis’ death in 2017. To this union 
brought four children Keith (Sandy), Overland Park, Marybeth (Warren) 
Harwick, Ft. Worth, TX, Kevin (Jyl) Chanute, and Robin (David) Hagedorn,
 Mission.

Upon Francis’ graduation from the University of Kansas School of 
Pharmacy, job opportunities in Norton and Oakley brought Francis and 
Bernice back to North Central Kansas and eventually Francis purchased 
his own store, Unrein Drug Store, in Plainville, KS, their home for the 
next 59 years. Francis and Bernice owned and operated the drugstore 
until Francis’ retirement in 1991.

Throughout her life, Bernice was an active member of the Rooks County
 Health Center Auxiliary, volunteering in the gift shop, Sacred Heart 
Catholic Parish, and later Curè of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood. She 
was a devoted wife to Francis and mourned his loss every day. She loved 
being a mother but her role as a grandmother and great grandmother 
brought her the most joy. &nbsp;Bernice also enjoyed cooking, gardening, 
close friendships, hosting family get-togethers, embroidery, knitting, 
and making sure everyone had something to eat or drink (even in her 
final days.) You could often find Bernice and Francis on the golf 
course, relaxing on their patio, and watching the KU Jayhawks and golf 
on tv. Bernice loved and defended fiercely those close to her.&nbsp; With 
perseverance, she survived breast cancer, a stroke, moving to Kansas 
City in her 80s and embracing life after Francis’ death. She had a 
beautiful smile, joyful laugh, rosy cheeks and great hair. She loved her
 family, her faith and friends, but nothing compared to the love she had
 for Francis.

Bernice was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Francis, 
brothers Marcellus, Alphonse, Julius and Norman, sisters Irene Munsch, 
Mary Rose Dreiling, and Alma Keaton, and son-in-law, Alan McClure. She 
is survived by her sister, Lorraine Arnold Cook of Denver, CO; her four 
children and spouses, and many extended relatives. Bernice was a loving 
“Mimi” to her grandchildren Lindsay (Jonathan) McPhail, Fairway, Kelly 
(Drew) Nicholls, Georgetown, Grand Cayman, and Spencer McClure (Erin 
Horn), Ft. Worth, TX. She was also the proud “Great Mimi” of great 
grandsons, Kai and Keiran McPhail, and great granddaughter, Astrid 
McClure.

Visitation will be at Curè of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road,
 Leawood, Kansas 66206, on Tuesday August 3, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., 
followed by a rosary at 10:45 a.m.&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial will follow

Bernice Amelia (Ruder) Unrein

Phillips County resident Terry L. Kipp passed away at his home on July 22, 2021, in Long Island, KS at the age of 70.

Terry was born January 8, 1951, in Phillipsburg, KS the son of Sam and Lela (Weinman) Kipp.

Survivors include his wife Jayne Jarvis of Long Island, KS; son Adam Kipp of Phillipsburg; daughter Tara Marshall of Hays, KS; sisters Mary Jackson of Phillipsburg, KS and Becky Whitney of Prairie View, KS; and three grandchildren of Hays, KS.

Cremation was planned.&nbsp; A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, in the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg, KS, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating.
