Matthew Charles “Matt” Schillig Jr., of Stratton, CO, passed away August
26, 2021 at the age of 68. He was born April 2, 1953 in Iowa City, IA
to Matthew Charles, Sr. and Betty Ruth (Pokorny) Schillig.
Matt grew up in Iowa City, IA area and graduated from high school in
1971. He married Cynthia Marie Grieser on June 14, 1978 in Anamosa, IA.
He retired from the Kansas Department of Transportation after 30+
years. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing. Matt had a passion for
horticulture, cultivation, and gardening.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cynthia and sister,
Rebecca “Beck” Schillig. He is survived by his sons, Aden (Sara)
Schillig of Texas City, TX and Steven (Stacy) Schillig of Stratton, CO;
four grandchildren, and siblings: Betty (Bill) Halleran of Riverside,
IA, Barb (Gary) Carlson of Anamosa, IA, Karen (Bruce) Barnekow of Mason
City, IA, Shirley (Greg) Harland of Kalona, IA, John (Tracy) Schillig of
Easton, KS, and Kristine (Juan) Sandiford of Nassau Bahamas.
