Norton resident Wilmer E. Severns passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at the Hutchinson Health and Rehab in Hutchinson, KS at the age of 96.

Wilmer was born November 15, 1924, on a farm in Norton County, Kansas the son of Ross E. and Irma H. (Colip) Severns.  He served in the United States Army during WWII.  Upon returning he received his bachelor’s degree from the Manhattan Christian College and began his Christian Ministry, preaching until the age of 93.

He was united in marriage to Eileen Juan Fisher on May 30, 1948, in Norton, KS.  She preceded him in death on January 15, 2015.

Survivors include his daughter Wava Goetz of Great Falls, Montana; two sons Wayne Severns of Auburndale, Florida and Jerry Severns of Hutchinson, Kansas; a brother Virgil Severns of Fairbanks, Alaska; a sister Margaret Leonard of Topeka, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Norton Christian Church in Norton, Kansas at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2021 with Pastor Nate Hagen officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in the Norton Cemetery, Norton.

Friends may sign the book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel, Phillipsburg.  The family will then receive friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Norton Christian Church for visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Norton Christian Church or the Norton Senior Center.
