Bradley 
E. Schur, 58, Minneapolis, died Thursday, August 26, 2021, at his home.&nbsp; 
He was born October 20, 1962, in Salina to William and Zoe Ann (Myers) 
Schur.

Brad was a
 1980 graduate of Minneapolis High School and he received his bachelors 
degree from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; He worked at the Hutchinson 
Correctional Facility for 27 years before retiring and moving to 
Minneapolis. He was currently working for the City of Minneapolis at the
 Light Plant at the time of his death.

He was preceded in death by his dad, Bill in 2017; and his brother, Rusty in 2007.

Survivors
 are his mother, Zoe Ann Schur; niece, Mackenzie (Ryan) Jones and their 
two children, Jaxon and Della Raye; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, 
and nephews.

Graveside
 services will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Highland 
Cemetery, Minneapolis. Visitation without family present will be Monday 
from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis.&nbsp;

Karen (Nagel) Behrens, 66, passed away August 26, 2021, at the 
University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. She was born May
 18, 1955, at Great Bend to Harvey &amp; Joyce (Muehlenburg) Nagel. She 
married Ross Alan Behrens on January 31, 1975, at Great Bend.&nbsp; He died 
December 11, 2011.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Karen was a pharmacy tech for 
Wal-Mart. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She enjoyed 
painting, yard work and bird houses. Karen loved to spend time with her 
family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include, her mother, Joyce Nagel; two sons, Michael Behrens
 of Hoisington and Brian Behrens of Wichita; a daughter, Melissa Serrien
 and husband Greg of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Vickie Owston of
 Houston, Tex.; and three grandchildren, Zachary Serrien, Sophie Serrien
 and Jeffery Serrien. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey 
Nagel; and her husband, Ross Behrens.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 30, 2021, at Bryant 
Funeral Home, with Pastor Merle Brockhoff presiding. Memorials have been
 designated to American Heart Association, in care of Bryant Funeral

Phillipsburg resident Lyle W. Allen passed away on Aug. 25, 2021, at the Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 98.

Survivors include his son Patrick of Phillipsburg; two daughters, Michelle Brown of Lyons and Kay Medlin of Virginia Beach, Va.; his step-son Bob Van Allen of Albuquerque, N.M.; two step-daughters, Jeri Schmid of Agra and Barb Polfer of Leawood; his sister Edna Mangum of Jackson, Ga.; six step-grandchildren and numerous step great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 30, in the First Christian Church, Phillipsburg, with Pastor LeRoy Herder officiating. Karen Ann (Hillman) Deutscher, 77, of WaKeeney, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2021.

She was born on Dec. 3, 1943, to Kenneth and Helen (Sproul) Hillman in Norton. She later attended Brown Mackie College in Salina, where she received instruction and training for secretarial work.&nbsp;

On July 22, 1967, Karen was united in marriage to Ronald Deutscher in Ellis, and were together until his passing, just shy of their 50th anniversary.

Together they raised three children. Karen was a wonderful homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and baking, loved gardening, and was an avid reader. She also greatly enjoyed crafting, especially quilting, and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church’s sewing team. Karen was also on the church council, served as a 4-H leader, and was a member of the Literary Book Club and EHU club.HU&nbsp;

Karen is survived by her son Darrin Deutscher (Deanna) of Andover, Kansas; daughters Sonya Rupp (Patrick) of Garden City, and Shelly Essary (Michael) of Basehor; grandchildren Cassandra Wilson (Jason) of Wichita, Derek Kostner (Haleigh) of Wichita, Britney Deutscher of Augusta, Zoe Deutscher of Andover, Adam Deutscher of Andover, Anderson Essary of Basehor, and Archer Essary of Basehor; great-grandchildren Brynn Rains and Everett Knaak; brother Stanley Hillman (Sheryl) of Ransom; sister Lisa Whipple (Marvin) of Pawnee Rock; three nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by both parents, Kenneth and Helen; and her beloved husband Ronald.

A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, at Schmitt Funeral Home, WaKeeney.

Lifelong Sharon Springs, Kansas resident, Orval William Fry, 85, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at the Greeley County Hospital in Tribune.

Orval was born on June 22, 1936, to Lyman Winfield and Ina Mildred (Epperson) Fry.&nbsp; He was one of eight children.&nbsp; He attended school in Sharon Springs, and graduated from Wallace County Community High School in 1954.&nbsp; He then went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1956-1960.

Upon returning from the military, Orval worked as a Diesel Mechanic and had a love for farming and tractors.&nbsp; He was a member of the NRA and he loved to play cards.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother Donald and one sister Colleen Barber.

He is survived by his four sisters; Emelie McAlister of Odessa, MO, Arlene (Joe) Henderson of Colorado Springs, CO, Linda Gates of Alabama and Karen (Truman) Haynes of Springfield, MO; one brother Freddie (Sandy) Fry of Myrtle Beach, SC and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021, at 10:30 AM MT at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church with Pastor Galen Crippen and Reverend Paul McNall officiating.&nbsp; Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Tara Dion King, 48, of Hays, passed away in her home on Aug. 23, 2021.&nbsp; Tara was born on May 24, 1973, to Thomas Clay King and Sandra Cromwell King in Hays.

Tara was educated in Hays and, due to her love of education, graduated from FHSU. She enjoyed time with her family and was quite an accomplished angler. Together with her love of fishing, she also enjoyed time outdoors camping. She enjoyed crafts and sewing, and was a lover of animals, slightly favoring cats over dogs.

She is survived by her son: Wesley Wheeler; Companion: Mark Wheeler, both of Hays; mother: Sandra King, Lincoln, Kan.; Father: Thomas (Shanna) King, Salina; Sister: Mandy Thrasher, Wilson; together with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Graveside services will be at the&nbsp;Milo Cemetery in Barnard on Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow in Barnard.

Tara Dion King

Janet Lorene Crockett of Lewis, 87, passed away August 24, 2021, at Grand Plains Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Pratt.

She was born Oct. 9, 1933, in Coats, Kan., the only daughter of Cecil Orland and Letha Pearl Hicks Fisher. They moved to the family farm outside Fellsburg in 1936.

Janet attended grade school in Fellsburg Jr. High in Centerview, and graduated high school in Trousdale in 1952. She attended K-State University for one year majoring in home economics and then married Floyd Daniel Crockett on Aug. 9, 1953 in Kinsley, and made their home on the north side of the same section of land as her parents where they farmed and raised cattle. They had three daughters, Brenda Renee, Candi Denise, and Shala Maureen.

A lifetime area resident, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, both of Lewis. Janet loved camping, boating and skiing at Cedar Bluff Lake almost every weekend in the summers, except for wheat harvest. It was a favorite family fun time. Janet loved all things summertime, including her love for flowers, trees, gardening, a good glass of ice tea and long summer days!&nbsp; She was an excellent cook, spent many hours in the kitchen and loved cooking meals for her family and others. She loved her family fiercely and spent time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as possible!

She and Floyd just celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Other survivors include: three daughters, Brenda (John) Roenbaugh, Lewis, Candi (Bruce) Russell, Stillwater, Okla., Shala (John) Kosir, Edmond; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Tara) Roenbaugh, Tawnya Roenbaugh, Daniel Russell, Dax Russell, Drew Russell, Shane Pritchett, Marissa Kosir, Lily Kosir; and three great-grandchildren, Aiden Roenbaugh, Carson Roenbaugh, Avery Roenbaugh.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, at Lewis United Methodist Church with Pastor Melissa Naylor and Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2021 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Fellsburg Cemetery, Fellsburg.

Former Sharon Springs, KS resident, George Duane Basgall, 87, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, in Denver, CO.

He was born on February 1, 1934, at Wallace, Kansas, the son of Anna Marie “Mary” (Urban) and Alexander Basgall.&nbsp; He was the 8th of 10 children; Gene, Edwin, Willie, Dolores, Bert, Norbie, Juanita, twin sister Margaret and Bernice.&nbsp; He graduated with the class of 1951 from Wallace County Community High School in Sharon Springs.&nbsp; He served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1956. &nbsp;

George worked for many years at the swimming pool in Sharon Springs and in Oakley.&nbsp; After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he taught school in Park, Kansas and in Boulder, Colorado for many years.&nbsp; He also worked for the Road Department for the City of Boulder.&nbsp; He was a member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Boulder.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.

He is survived by his sister Juanita Wostenberg and a sister-in-law Vonna Basgall both of Sharon Springs, Kansas, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 10:30 AM at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Sharon Springs with Father David Michael officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 30, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT with a Parish Rosary Service beginning at 7:00 PM at the Church in Sharon Springs.

Connie Fulkerson, 66, of Manhattan, died August 20, 2021, at Good Shepherd Homecare and Hospice in Manhattan, Kan.
 Constance Eileen Nelson was born Sept. 12, 1954, in San Diego, 
Calif., to Paul R. and Barbara J. (Haskin) Nelson, while her father was 
in the Navy.
 Because of her father's work with Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., 
she and her family lived in numerous towns: Topeka, Wichita, Pratt, 
Abilene, Salina, Hutchinson, Kansas City, Kan., and Webster Groves, Mo. 
Connie was an active member of the Girl Scouts for 10 years.
 She graduated from Buhler (Kan.) High School in 1972, earned an A.A.
 degree from Hutchinson Community College in 1974 and a B.A. in English 
and journalism from Fort Hays State University in 1977. She was a 
yearbook editor and photographer at all three schools.
 After graduation, she worked for about two years as co-editor of the
 weekly Bucklin Banner and Protection Post newspapers in western Kansas.
 She then moved to Hastings, Neb., where she worked for the Cornhusker 
Press, a professional printing company.
 In 1982, she started working as a production coordinator for Student
 Publications, Inc. (now the Collegian Media Group) at Kansas State 
University. 
 On Aug. 2, 1986, she married the love of her life John Walter 
Fulkerson at the First Christian Church in Manhattan, Kan. He preceded 
her in death on June 14, 2001. They had one son, Alex, born June 7, 
1989.
 When the Journalism Education Association moved its national 
headquarters to K-State in 1988, she was asked to be its administrative 
assistant and bookstore manager. During her years with the organization,
 she also helped plan the biannual national conventions and was a copy 
editor for the organization's Communication: Journalism Education Today 
magazine. She retired after 32 years at JEA in 2020 and was the 
recipient of the organization's highest honor, the Carl Towley Award, in
 recognition of her outstanding contributions to scholastic journalism 
and exemplary work to improve journalism education.
 Genealogy was her favorite hobby for more than 40 years, and she 
enjoyed sharing her research with family members and connecting with 
distant relatives through genealogy websites.
 Survivors include son Alex (Courtney) Fulkerson and their two 
children, Centerville, Ga.; brothers: Daniel (Sandra) Nelson, Columbia, 
Mo.; John (Sonia) Nelson, Costa Rica; and Andrew (Jennifer Lindsey) 
Nelson, Eugene, Ore.; sister: Jeanne Kennedy, Tecumseh, Kan.; and

Connie Fulkerson

Elmer Joe Hanks, 99, died Tuesday August 24, 2021, at the Lane County 
Hospital in Dighton, Kansas. He was born June 14, 1922, at his family 
farmhouse six miles south of Pendennis in Lane County, Kansas. He was 
the son of Albert Ross and Vera Susan (Overholt) Hanks. 
Joe was the youngest of five children and spent his early childhood at 
the family farm on Scout Road. During the Great Depression, when farming
 became difficult, Joe’s family moved to Garden City. His father trucked
 produce from Colorado to Western Kansas and Joe attended Garden City 
Public Schools by day and worked an evening paper route delivering the 
Hutchinson Herald, The Dodge City Globe, and The Garden City Telegram, 
even during dust storms. Once the rain returned, the farming and economy
 improved, and the family moved back to Lane County. 
After graduation from Utica High School in 1940, Joe attended Sacramento
 Junior College, in California where his brothers were then farming. 
After a year, he returned to Kansas and began majoring in botany at Fort
 Hays State College. He was there less than a year when the U.S. entered
 World War II. As part of the “Greatest Generation,” he enlisted in the 
Navy and was sent to Midshipman’s School in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. He
 attended officer training at Columbia University, New York City and was
 later commissioned to the USS Alpine APA 92. This ship transported 
troops to Guam, Guadalcanal and Leyte, in the Philippines for invasions 
against the Japanese. Joe was injured in service when a kamikaze plane 
hit the ship. For this, he was awarded a Purple Heart. 
On May 17, 1946, Joe was honorably discharged from duty and went on to 
enroll at Kansas State University on the GI-Bill. At K-State he met his 
first wife Roylynn LaRosh. The two were married in rural Osbourne County
 on June 17, 1947. 
Joe and Roylynn took over operations at the Hanks family farm and 
together developed a shorthorn milking herd. Joe was an active member of
 the Dairy Herd Improvement Association and the Southwest Milk Producers
 Association of which he became director. The two soon found themselves 
raising a family of four. Along with their farm work, their lives 
centered around their children’s 4-H activities and church. They were 
named Kansas Master Farmer and Farm Homemaker in 1975. 
For several years Joe taught the latest conservation practices to young 
farmers in Lane County through Kansas State Extension. He served on the 
board of the Lane County Extension Council, the Agricultural 
Stabilization and Conservation Service, as well as the Wet Walnut 
Watershed Board. He also taught Sunday School for more than 20 years at 
Dighton United Methodist Church. 
In 1982, he and Roylynn moved to Dighton but Joe continued to manage the 
farm. Joe and Roylynn were married for 48 years before she passed in 
1995. 
In 1996, Joe met his second wife, Helen Prose Metzker. The two were 
married in Montanna and together they designed and built a new home east
 of Dighton. It was there that they started a two acre orchard where 
they grew a variety of fruit and nut trees and began the community 
tradition of Punkin Patch Day. Each fall Joe and Helen would invite 
local school children to their home to pick pumpkins and enjoy cider 
made from apple trees grown in their orchard. Helen and Joe were married
 for 25 years, she survives. 
Other survivors include his children: Constance Hanks (Gregory Foxx), 
Van Hanks (Stacy Shorer), Gloria (Stan) Bray, and Son-In-Law, John 
Koehn. Five grandchildren, Andrew (Leah) Koehn, Sarah (Eric) Koehn Frey,
 Kirk Bray, Emily Hanks (Les Lynch), Adam (Megan) Hanks, and seven great
 grandchildren. 
With his marriage to Helen, they added to the family, Helen’s two 
children Rebecca (Brian) Hansen, and Rob (Donna) Metzker. Six 
grandchildren, Derek Hembree, Jennifer (Nathan) Howard, Ryan (Andrea) 
Hembree, Erica (Alex) Hansen, Frank (Erin) Hansen, Gunnar Hansen, and 
four great grandchildren. 
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brother’s Leon, Lawrence, 
Gerald, and a sister Ruth, his first wife Roylynn and daughter Jill 
Hanks Koehn. 
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30pm Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 
the United Methodist Church in Dighton, Kansas with Pastor Darrin 
Hammond officiating. Services will also be streamed Facebook Live via

Elmer Joe Hanks

David Lynn Graham, 68, of Leoti, KS, formerly of Norton, passed away 
August 24, 2021 at the Wichita County Health Center in Leoti. He was 
born June 3, 1953 in Portsmouth, VA to Robert Neil and Janet (Rife) 
Graham.
 David grew up in Aurora, CO and was a 1971 graduate of William C. 
Hinkley High School. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in 
accounting from the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he was a 
member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After graduation he took his CPA
 test and passed the first time, which is an outstanding accomplishment.
 David began working with the IRS in Huron, SD and then was transferred 
to Rochester, MN but decided he wanted to be closer to family, so he 
moved back to Colorado.
 While he was in Colorado working for an oil and gas company, he met 
his first wife Cynthia Miller and to that union their son, Tom, was 
born. In 1988, David decided to move his family to Norton for a job 
opportunity at Mapes and Miller. He eventually took a job with Nex-Tech 
where he was the Revenue Administrator and he retired after almost 25 
years. 
 In 1994, two families were made whole with the marriage of David and Debbie Bailey. 
 David, an avid CU Buffalo fan, enjoyed playing family cards games, 
he especially had a passion for Bridge and enjoyed competing against 
Debbie in a game of gin rummy. He also enjoyed reading and was an avid 
history buff, he always had random facts to share and was never without a
 quick comeback or joke. His love of gardening was apparent but only 
when it came to planting one. Most of all, David loved spending time 
with his grandkids and dogs. 
 David was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Graham; brother, 
Tom Graham, and sister, Susan Ruttell. He is survived by his wife, 
Debbie of the home; father, Robert Neil (Penny) Graham of Lakewood, CO; 
sons: Tom Graham of Hays, KS, Brent Brooks of Colby, KS, and Marc Brooks
 of WaKeeney, KS; daughter, Kayleigh (Craig) Berning of Leoti, KS; 
grandchildren: Ryker Graham, Kellen, Cameron, Payton, Parker, Porter, 
Paisley, and Preston Brooks and Collin Berning; sisters, Sally (Mike) 
Garcia of Lakewood, CO and Sandy (Greg) Brenner of Lodgepole, NE and 
many nieces, nephews and extended family members. 
 A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 
10:30 am at the First Church of God in Norton. Burial will be held at

 David, an avid CU Buffalo fan, enjoyed playing family cards games, 
he especially had a passion for Bridge and enjoyed competing against 
Debbie in a game of gin rummy. He also enjoyed reading and was an avid 
history buff, he always had random facts to share and was never without a
 quick comeback or joke. His love of gardening was apparent but only 
when it came to planting one. Most of all, David loved spending time 
with his grandkids and dogs. 
 David was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Graham; brother, 
Tom Graham, and sister, Susan Ruttell. He is survived by his wife, 
Debbie of the home; father, Robert Neil (Penny) Graham of Lakewood, CO; 
sons: Tom Graham of Hays, KS, Brent Brooks of Colby, KS, and Marc Brooks
 of WaKeeney, KS; daughter, Kayleigh (Craig) Berning of Leoti, KS; 
grandchildren: Ryker Graham, Kellen, Cameron, Payton, Parker, Porter, 
Paisley, and Preston Brooks and Collin Berning; sisters, Sally (Mike) 
Garcia of Lakewood, CO and Sandy (Greg) Brenner of Lodgepole, NE and 
many nieces, nephews and extended family members. 
 A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 
10:30 am at the First Church of God in Norton. Burial will be held at 
1:30 pm Saturday at the Jennings Cemetery. Visitation will be from

Marsha Eloise McGillivray of Goodland, age 83, passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021.&nbsp;

She was born April 23, 1938, in Sherman Country, the daughter of 
Theodore “Pug” and Elma (Radar) Lohr.&nbsp; Marsha grew up and went to school
 in Kanorado, she graduated from Kanorado High School in 1956.&nbsp; On 
September 23, 1956, she married Garland “Kayo” McGillivray in Baumholder,
 Germany while he was serving in the United States Army.&nbsp; They also 
lived in Liberal, Kansas and Kenai, Alaska before they returned to 
Goodland in 1996.&nbsp; Marsha worked as a bookkeeper for Kenai Schools in 
Alaska along with many other bookkeeping jobs over the years.&nbsp;

Marsha was a member of the United Methodist Church of Goodland.&nbsp; She 
enjoyed playing golf, bridge, sports and spending time with her family 
and friends.&nbsp;

Preceding her in death were her husband; parents; son, Scott; and 
sisters, Dorothy Mangus, Phyllis Billenwillms and Gladys McBride.&nbsp;

Surviving family includes her sons, Greg (Patricia) McGillivray of 
Franklin, WI and Tod (Shannon) McGillivray of Soldotna, AK; four 
grandchildren: Alex of Tucson, AZ; Tyler, Kodi and Kalyn of Sodotna, AK;
 and her brother Ted (Darlene) Lohr of Castle Rock, CO.&nbsp;

Marsha Eloise (Lohr) McGillivray

Gerald "Jerry" Olson was born on June 25, 1945, in Oberlin, Kansas. His 
parents were Gilbert Steen and Evelyn (Lorenson) Olson. He attended the 
Laing country school and later attended Decatur Community High School, 
graduating in 1963. He died on August 24, 2021, in Oberlin, Kansas, at 
the age of 76.
 Following graduation, Gerald operated his family’s farm, located 
south of Herndon, Kansas, with his mother. He married Connie May, 
daughter of Elbert and Wilma (Wurm) May on January 20, 1979. He 
continued to farm until 2011 when he became ill and retired.
 Gerald was known for his great sense of humor, smile, and boisterous
 laughter. He loved his farm and his family, especially his 
grandchildren. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and later, St. 
John’s Lutheran Church, of Oberlin.
 He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Elwood May and John Andrews.
 Survivors include, his wife Connie, sister Janice (Olson) and Bob 
Baer; brother-in-law, David May; sisters-in-law, Eunice Andrews and 
Jeanie May; daughters, Kelly (Olson) and Sam Stone, and Wendy (Olson)

Gerald 'Jerry' Olson

William "Bill" Charles Borneman, 62, a resident of Gooding, Idaho,&nbsp; died from a farm accident at the family farm in rural Gooding County.

Bill was born on May 5, 1957, in Quincy, California, the son of 
Frank and Dorothy (Garms) Borneman. He was raised and educated in Quincy
 until 1972 when the family moved to Gooding, Idaho. The first grain 
crop on the Gooding farm needed to be harvested, so asking the locals 
“who is the best combiner around?” they were referred to Jim Bright and 
his Gleaner A’s. Bill was thoroughly impressed! During his time 
attending Gooding High School he became active in FFA, and the budding 
love and fascination of Gleaner combines fueled his FFA project of 
starting a custom harvesting business, his first combine, a Gleaner C, 
was purchased.

He graduated from Gooding High School in 1975 and that summer 
answered a “help wanted” ad in the recently discovered High Plains 
Journal and joined a custom harvesting crew from Oklahoma that ran 2 
brand new Gleaner M combines. Following that experience he joked that 
before he died he wanted to be a Texan, Okie, or a Kansan. He attended 
and graduated from Eastern Idaho Vo-Tech with a diesel mechanics 
certificate in 1977. He later went on and worked for various implement 
dealers in Idaho and Colorado before returning to the family farm to 
pursue custom harvesting and equipment repair and salvage.

In 1983, Bill met Donna Huber and they were married on June 23, 
1984 in Gooding. A year later they began farming and since then they 
have worked side by side the duration of their marriage. In June of 
1989, their daughter Sarah was born and son Robert was born in August 
1990. In 1993, they purchased a homestead and grassland in Ransom, 
Kansas and moved in 1994. This is when Bill began the business of used 
farm equipment sales, and was rather pleased to then get the High Plains
 Journal even earlier so he wouldn’t miss out on all the bargains. They 
resided there until 1999 when they bought their Edson, Kansas farm. Bill
 continued with the equipment sales and did small-time custom 
harvesting, and later took over farming the Edson farm. &nbsp;In 2018, 
following the passing of his mother, Bill and Donna returned to Gooding 
to manage the family farm.

Bill is survived by his wife of 35 years, Donna of Gooding and 
his daughter, Sarah of Hays, KS and son, Robert of Edson, KS, his sister
 Kathy Spooner of Moss Bluff, Louisiana, his cousins Herb, Gary and 
Gayle Garms, and Tom and Jim Borneman, his many brother and 
sister-in-laws and many more nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy.

Bill will be remembered for his vast collection of Gleaner 
combines, Oliver tractors, his thrill of a good auction (and running to 
get the next bargain at the other auction ring), his willingness to help
 a fellow man, his story telling, and not knowing a stranger.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a Hospice 
organization of your choice or to plant a tree in remembrance, or to 
spend on that pile of junk wagon goodies or a Gleaner combine at an 
auction so Bill doesn’t have to take it home.

Keith Burgess, age 90, passed away at the Park Lane Nursing Home in 
Scott City, Kansas, on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. He was born on October 
5, 1930, in Garden City, Kansas, the son of Wade Hampton and Letha 
Adalene Phillips Burgess. He was a lifetime resident of Scott City. He 
was a certified flight instructor and worked as a farmer and aerial 
applicator.

On December 3, 1950, Keith married Betty Jean Graham in Scott City, Kansas. She survives.

Keith was a member of the United Methodist Church of Scott City, 
served on the Coop Board, the city council, and the airport board.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, his daughter, Susan &amp; Terry 
Rose of Scott City, Kansas, one grandson, Neil &amp; Jenny Rose of Scott
 City, Kansas, two granddaughters, Darci &amp; Brent Cain of Ellis, 
Kansas, and Breva &amp; Josh Spencer of Manhattan, Kansas, three 
great-granddaughters, Jacy Rose of Scott City, Kansas, and Tara Rose of

Cindy Louise Stillwagoner, 71, passed away August 25, 2021, at 
Diversicare of Larned. She was born October 9, 1949, at Hays to Victor 
Lang Sr. &amp; Minnie (Staab) Lang. She married Richard Stillwagoner on
 January 18, 1971, at Great Bend.

Cindy graduated Marion High School in Hays and the Dominican School 
of Nursing in Great Bend. She was a RN at CKMC in the operating room, 
and the office nurse for Dr. William McAllister and Great Bend 
Internists. She was the owner of the Ceramic Corner. She was a member of
 Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society 
and St. Rose and Dominican Alumni Association. She especially loved 
spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband, Richard Stillwagoner of the home; a 
son, Marc Stillwagoner and wife Melinda of Mansfield, Tex.; a daughter, 
Rebecca Smith and husband Matt of Meridian, ID; and four grandchildren, 
Lillie Stillwagoner, Luke Stillwagoner, Danielle Smith and Natalie 
Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Victor Lang,
 Jr.; and a sister, Norma Buckler.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, August 27,

Norman Howard “Norm” Staats, 84, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at his 
home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born August 24, 1937, in Stafford, 
Kansas, the son of Leo Herschel &amp; Daisy Maxine (Brown) Staats. 
 Norman grew up and attended schools in Sylvia, Kansas. After 
graduating from Sylvia High School he attended and earned a Master’s 
degree from Kansas State University. On August 30, 1959, he married 
LuEtta Jean Berschauer in WaKeeney, Kansas. They moved to Garden City 
in 1960 and have lived in Garden City since. Norm taught at Garden City
 High School for a short time. He then taught at Garden City Community 
College for 39 years. He also started the Rodeo program at the college 
and served as Rodeo coach for 33 years. Norm was a member of St. James 
Lutheran Church of Garden City, the Kansas National Education 
Association, the Kansas Vocational Association, Alpha Tau Omega, and 
ROTC at Kansas State University. Norman’s hobbies include woodworking, 
gardening, and traveling with his family. 
 Survivors include his wife LuEtta Staats of the home; 4 children

 </figure>Norman Howard “Norm” Staats, 84, died Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at his 
home in Garden City, Kansas. He was born August 24, 1937, in Stafford, 
Kansas, the son of Leo Herschel &amp; Daisy Maxine (Brown) Staats. 
 Norman grew up and attended schools in Sylvia, Kansas. After 
graduating from Sylvia High School he attended and earned a Master’s 
degree from Kansas State University. On August 30, 1959, he married 
LuEtta Jean Berschauer in WaKeeney, Kansas. They moved to Garden City 
in 1960 and have lived in Garden City since. Norm taught at Garden City
 High School for a short time. He then taught at Garden City Community 
College for 39 years. He also started the Rodeo program at the college 
and served as Rodeo coach for 33 years. Norm was a member of St. James 
Lutheran Church of Garden City, the Kansas National Education 
Association, the Kansas Vocational Association, Alpha Tau Omega, and 
ROTC at Kansas State University. Norman’s hobbies include woodworking, 
gardening, and traveling with his family. 
 Survivors include his wife LuEtta Staats of the home; 4 children 
Kevin (Anitta) Staats of Wamego, Kansas, Brian (Tanya) Staats of Great

Larry Erwin Burmeister, 77, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 
Andbe Home in Norton, KS. He was born August 27, 1943, in Ellsworth, KS 
to Erwin and Elvera (Steinhaus) Burmeister.

Larry was a longtime resident of the Wichita, KS area before moving
 to Hill City a few years ago. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, and eating
 ice cream and most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his kids 
and grandkids.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Burmeister of Hill City;
 son, David Burmeister of Hill City; daughter, Kathy and Arthur Ebner of
 Densmore, KS; son, Benjamin Burmeister of Las Vegas, NV; grandson, 
Lonnie and Desiree Woods of Logan, KS and their children, Brayton and

Marsha Lynn McConnaughy, 79, passed away August 24, 2021, at her home
 in Bennington, Neb. She was born March 9, 1942, at Great Bend to John 
&amp; Helen (Damon) Hoge. She married Clarence McConnaughy at Great Bend
 on October 14, 1961. He died July 9, 2012.

A longtime Dodge City resident before moving to Bennington in 2012, 
Marsha was a bookkeeper for WW Manufacturing, and upon her retirement, 
served as a paraprofessional for Comanche Middle School in Dodge City. 
She was a &nbsp;longtime girl scout leader and especially loved spending time
 with her family.

Survivors include, a son, Kyle McConnaughy and wife Kerry of 
Bennington, Neb.; and three grandchildren, Connor, Corey and Kelsey. She
 was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence 
McConnaughy; and a brother, Michael A. Hoge.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 29, 
2021 at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m.,
 Monday, August 30, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry 
Schumacher presiding. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, 
Great Bend.

Lifelong Kanorado, KS resident Alan Lee Billenwillms, 68, passed away at this home in Kanorado on Saturday, August 21, 2021.

Alan was born on March 11, 1953, in Burlington, Colorado, to Boyd Merl 
and Phyllis (Lohr) Billenwillms.&nbsp; He was one of four children.&nbsp; He 
attended school in Kanorado and Goodland and graduated from Goodland 
High School in 1971.&nbsp;

He worked many years as a rural route mail carrier for the Postal 
Service as well as a farmer.&nbsp; He was involved in the Goodland Elks Club,
 Lions Club and the Goodland Alcoholics Anonymous.&nbsp;

On November 11, 1994, he married Linda Prochaska in Denver.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one son Mikey Billenwillms, 
two sisters Terri Armbruster and Bunnie Baker, as well as one cousin 
Mikey Mangus.

He is survived by his wife Linda of the home in Kanorado, one 
daughter Kim (Frank) Miller of Seibert, CO, one son Jeff (Carrie) 
Parrish of Centennial, CO, one brother Tom (Cynthia) Billenwillms of 
Kanorado, KS, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren, as well 
as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.&nbsp;

There will be no services held at this time.&nbsp; A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Dennis 
Charles Sidener was born to Leo and Ruth Sidener in Ada, Kansas on 
October 18, 1936, the middle of five children. &nbsp;Dennis passed away 
Monday, August 23, 2021 in Manhattan.

He attended K-12 grades in Ada and was baptized in the Ada Antioch Baptist Church.

After 
graduating from Ada High School, he attended Fort Hays State University 
graduating in 1958 with a bachelor’s degree in education.

He was united in marriage to Laurel Charlene Mauk at the United Methodist Church in Delphos, Kansas on June 9th, 1957.&nbsp;

Following
 his college graduation from Fort Hays State, he moved to Agenda, Kansas,&nbsp; to begin his career of teaching woodworking and coaching high school 
football, basketball and track. He moved to Enterprise Kansas in 1961 
teaching one year at Enterprise High School before unifying with the 
Chapman, Kansas, school district in 1962. At Chapman, he taught Junior High
 Industrial Arts, and coached High School Football, 8th Grade basketball and track.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Continuing
 his education, he graduated from Kansas State University in 1965 with a
 Master of Science degree and Counseling certificate. &nbsp;In 1981 he 
transitioned from the classroom to the Guidance Counselor and Athletic 
Director position at Chapman Junior High until his retirement in 1998.

He 
resided in Enterprise, Kansas, for 55 years attending the Enterprise 
United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, member of the 
administrative council and a ready volunteer for many church functions.&nbsp;
 He also served on the Enterprise City Council and was a summer league 
baseball coach for many years.

In 2017, Dennis and wife Laurel relocated to Manhattan, Kansas for their retirement home.

Dennis is
 survived by his wife Laurel, son Brad Sidener and wife Marilyn, 5 
grandchildren: Rachelle Swearingen and husband Ray, Sara Meng and 
husband Justin, Matthew Sidener and wife Brooke, Theodore Budden and 
wife Emily and Mark Sidener; and six great grandchildren; 2 brothers: 
Richard Sidener and wife Lucille and Rodney Sidener; 1 sister: Charlene 
Nichols, and other nieces and nephews.

He is 
preceded in death by his parents, sister Norma Prochaska and husband 
Albert (Pro), sister-in-law Betty Sidener and brother-in-law Harold 
Nichols. &nbsp;

Dennis Charles Sidener

Scott Alan Bruggeman, 54, of Charlotte, NC died peacefully August 21, 
2021 with his wife Dani by his side. Scott was raised in Selden, KS, and
 graduated from Golden Plains High School. 

After graduating college 
Scott moved to Phoenix, AZ where he lived and worked for many years 
before moving to Charlotte to continue his career as a technical 
engineer. 
 Scott was a larger-than-life personality and was the type of person 
who never met a stranger; he always had a smile to share or a hand to 
help. He gave a 100% to anything he did in life. He didn’t believe in a 
bucket list, his outlook was, “why wait, let’s plan it and make it 
happen!” He lived a full life although a short one and commented on 
several occasions that if anything were to happen to him, that he would 
have no regrets. The world is a better place because of having him in 
it. Scott loved being with his family and spending time with his 
friends. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten. 
 In addition to his wife Dani Bruggeman of Charlotte, NC, Scott is 
survived by his parents Carlene &amp; Darrel Bruggeman of Selden, KS; 
his brother Greg Bruggeman, wife Traci and their son Will of Selden, KS;

Colton Cade Lane, 16, of Munjor, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, at his home.&nbsp;

He was born May 8, 2005, in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a junior at Victoria High School where he was active in football, FFA, FCCLA, and V-Club.&nbsp; He was also involved in 4-H from a young age and enjoyed showing his animals at the county fair.&nbsp; Colton loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Colton was a free-spirited young man who loved spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; He had a very caring soul and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone.&nbsp; He loved working on his dirt bike and fixing up junk.&nbsp; He was a true country boy and enjoyed going to his grandpa’s farm, especially riding his Mexican bucking pony, CJ.&nbsp; Colton enjoyed rodeos and helping his sisters at barrel races.&nbsp;

 </figure>Colton Cade Lane, 16, of Munjor, passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021, at his home.&nbsp;He was born May 8, 2005, in Hutchinson, Kansas.&nbsp; He was a junior at Victoria High School where he was active in football, FFA, FCCLA, and V-Club.&nbsp; He was also involved in 4-H from a young age and enjoyed showing his animals at the county fair.&nbsp; Colton loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Colton was a free-spirited young man who loved spending time with family and friends.&nbsp; He had a very caring soul and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone.&nbsp; He loved working on his dirt bike and fixing up junk.&nbsp; He was a true country boy and enjoyed going to his grandpa’s farm, especially riding his Mexican bucking pony, CJ.&nbsp; Colton enjoyed rodeos and helping his sisters at barrel races.&nbsp;He is survived by his parents: Chelsea Dickey and Bill Werth of Munjor, an older sister: Cadence Dickey, a twin sister: Callie Lane, little sisters: Cidnee and Cashlyn Werth, and a little brother: Canyon Werth all of Munjor, grandparents: Cindy Dickey of Hays, Marc Dickey (Chris) of St. Louis, MO, and Kevin and Patty Werth of Hays, two uncles:&nbsp; Alex Dickey of Albuquerque, NM and Jeremy Werth of Hays, great grandparents: Janis Baker of Hays and Kenny and Elaine Werth of Schoenchen, and many great aunts, great uncles, and cousins.&nbsp;He was preceded in death by his great grandfather: Lyle Baker, cousin: Jordan Schreurs, and uncle: Michael Werth.&nbsp;Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at Hays First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Colton Cade Lane

Velma Marie Carver, 90, Liebenthal, Kansas, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas.

Velma was born July 5, 1931, in Rush County, Kansas, the daughter of Reinhold A. And Emma (Wolf) Herrman.&nbsp;

She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Altar
 Society, both of Liebenthal, and the VFW Auxiliary, La Crosse, 
Kansas.

On April 2, 1951, she married Raymond E. Carver at St. Joseph’s 
Catholic Church, Liebenthal.&nbsp; He preceded her in death February 
19, 2010.

Being married to a 20 year United States Navy veteran, Velma, Raymond
 and their family lived in California, Washington, D.C., Hawaii, and 
Illinois before making Rush County, Kansas, their “forever home."

Survivors include:&nbsp; one daughter, Vel Rae “Sis” Starkey, Liebenthal, 
Kansas; three sons, Rick Carver (Midge), Superior, Colorado, Patrick 
Carver (Patty), Liebenthal, Kansas, Scot Carver (Virginia), Colby, 
Kansas; 24 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; five great great 
grandchildren; one brother, Ron “Ronnie” Herrman (Theresa), Austin, 
Texas; and two sisters, Marilyn Randa (Harold), Manhattan, Kansas, and 
Karen Jarmer, Bay City, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, 
Paula Hayes; one son, Douglas Carver; one granddaughter, Audrey Carver; 
and three brothers, Leroy Herrman, Vernon Herrman, and James “Artie” 
Herrman.

Church visitation will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 9:00 
A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.&nbsp; A
 rosary will be at 9:15 A.M.&nbsp;

Memorial service will be Saturday, September 11, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. 
at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, with Father Stephen
 Dabanka officiating.&nbsp; Inurnment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 
Liebenthal, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to Vel 
Rae Starkey to assist with expenses, or St. Joseph’s Heritage Fund, 
Liebenthal, Kansas.
