Barbara Ann “Bobbi” Norton passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at her
 home in Plainville at the age of 65. She was born in Plainville on 
October 9, 1955 to William and Esther “Ruth” (Larsen) Brickley. Bobbi 
was united in marriage to Don Norton, the couple was blessed with two 
children: Kim and Thomas, the couple later divorced.
 Bobbi was a lifetime resident of Plainville, she attended Plainville
 High School and graduated with the class of 1973. Following High 
School, she was a homemaker for many years and cherished the many 
memories she made with her children while they were growing up. Outside 
of raising her children she later was co-owner of Norton Tractor Service
 for many years and later honored the Brickley legacy by accepting a job
 in healthcare at the Plainville Rural Hospital later known as Rooks 
County Health Center, in Dietary Management. She furthered her education
 at Barton Community College to earn a degree in this field so she could
 pursue her passion of food, service, and family. She devoted 14 years 
to the Hospital and become well known, and very loved by the patients, 
staff, and the community of Plainville. She later accepted a position at
 RedBud Village Nursing Home in the Dietary Department. Bobbi loved the 
residents and her co-workers, she looked forward to her job everyday and
 the residents and staff looked forward to seeing her.
 Bobbi was passionate about her family and enjoyed being close to her
 children and later her grandchildren. She loved her granddaughters and 
looked forward to their growth in their future careers. Bobbi’s cats and
 dogs were also loved like her children and grandchildren. The family 
was unified through a love of each other, food, and of course the Kansas
 City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. She will be remembered through 
her good works, her caring nature, and fierce patriotism with an 
unforgettable social media presence.
 Bobbi is survived by her children, Kim Brown (Dan Bingle) of 
Plainville, KS and Thomas Norton (Megan Bell) of Plainville, KS; 
brother, Ross (Jan) Brickely of Lexington, NC; grandchildren, Emily 
Norton and Elizabeth Brown; nieces, Morgan (Tim) Lendino of Charlotte, 
NC, Samantha Norton of Beloit, KS; nephews, Jamie Smith of Salina, KS 
and Josh (Amber) Smith of Baldwin City, KS, JT (Danielle) Norton of 
Wilcox, NE, Nathan Norton of Kearney, NE; and great nieces and nephew, 
Mary, Matthew, Michel, and Malena.
 She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruth Brickley and a sister, Marsha Brickley Smith.
 A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the 
First Christian Church in Plainville at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be on 
Monday at the Funeral Home from 2 PM until 8 PM with Family Receiving 
Friends from 5:30P to 7P.

Rhonda Lou Blazek, 73, died July 15, 2021, at her home in Salina, 
Kansas.&nbsp; She was born November 17, 1947, in Glendale, Cal., the daughter
 of Chester H. and Anna Louise (Wray) Smith.

On May 21, 1966, she married Edward LeRoy Blazek in Dubuque, Kansas. 
They later divorced, and remarried May 21, 1989.&nbsp; He preceded her in 
death on October 14, 2005.

A lifetime resident of Hoisington, Rhonda was a long time Hoisington 
E.M.S. director, also being employed by Essex, Albert Co-op, Fuller 
Brush and the Women’s Recovery Center.&nbsp; She enjoyed gardening, reading, 
tinkering with computers, and above all, time spent with her 
grandchildren.

She is survived by: a son, Eric Blazek and wife Kristy of Hoisington;
 and a daughter, Chrystie Blazek and husband Rob Teschke of Salina; two 
brothers, Randy Smith of Great Bend, and Ron Smith and wife Christina of
 Hoisington; 10 grandchildren, Austin LaViolette, Nathan LaViolette, 
Ryan Meade, Shannon Meade, Steven Mickle, Karissa Wagner, Kelsea Wagner,
 Kaleb Blazek, Brady Blazek and Ali Jo Blazek; and 17 great 
grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Chet and Louise Smith, 
husband, Ed, an infant son, Paul Lee Blazek, and son, Aaron Lee Blazek.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021, with

George Russell 'Rusty' Addleman

Beth Marie (Williams) Scott passed away on July 15, 2021, at the age of 
89. She was born in Smith Center, KS the daughter of Zelma (Bierman) 
and Roy Williams.
 	Beth grew up and attended school in Smith Center, graduating in 
1950. Soon after graduation, she married Sidner Scott on December 31, 
1951. They recently celebrated their 70th anniversary. To this union,&nbsp; were born two children, Cindy and Waverly.
 	Beth and Sid lived on the family farm in Smith County for several 
years, later moving to Boulder, CO where Beth worked as a loan officer 
and bookkeeper for the Boulder Valley School Credit Union for seven 
years, and office manager and bookkeeper for a law firm for twenty-one 
years. After Beth and Sid retired, they moved back to Smith Center 
where they continued farming for several more years. 
 	Beth was a very devoted and active member of the various churches 
she attended. Singing was her passion. She was a member of Garden Lore
 Club, and enjoyed gathering with close friends. 
 	Beth was also a member of the International Flying Farmers and 
Ranchers Organization where she served as International Duchess for one 
year, flying all over the United States and Canada with her husband in 
their small plane, promoting the organization and encouraging the 
spouses to learn to land the plane. She was one of those spouses. They 
were blessed to enjoy the love of travel earlier in their lives and 
added many pins to their travel map. 
 She was very close to her five grandchildren while they were 
growing up, especially supporting them in all their academic and 
athletic activities. In later years, she was a dedicated grandmother and
 great-grandmother.
 	Preceding her in death was daughter, Cindy (Scott) Brennan and 
husband Terry; son, Waverly Scott and daughter-in-law, Jayne (Rietzke) 
Scott; sister Dona Kirby and her parents.
 	She is survived by her spouse, Sidner Scott of Smith Center, five 
grandchildren: Brooke (Scott) McDowell and husband, Darin of Kensington,
 KS, Kyle Scott and wife, Kelly of Sweeney, Texas, Lucas Scott and wife 
Barbara of Germany, Laura (Brennan) Preston and husband, Tyler, of 
Sandpoint, Idaho, and Bryan Brennan, of Estes Park, CO, four 
great-grandchildren: Brillon and Breckyn McDowell, Kynlee Scott and

Joe Martin Gillaspie was born November 26, 1931, at his home in Texas County, OK, the 
second of eight children to Nimrod and Eula Pearl Gillaspie.&nbsp; He 
graduated from high school at Elkhart, KS in 1949 and attended 
Southwestern College in Winfield, KS on a football scholarship. He 
graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1953. He later went on to earn his 
M.S. in Education from Fort Hays State College in 1959.

Joe met Juanita Hardy while attending Southwestern College. They were
 married on June 1, 1952, at the Pratt United Methodist Church. They 
celebrated 68 years of marriage.

Growing up on a farm in the 1930’s Joe learned many skills from his 
father and grandfather and had a reputation in the communities he lived 
in of knowing how to fix about anything. He also learned to hunt and 
fish, which he enjoyed throughout his lifetime.

He taught Industrial Arts and coached football and boys’ basketball 
and track at Hugoton, Coats, and Lewis. After earning his MS in 
Education Joe served as Superintendent of Schools at Vesper, Haviland, 
and Deerfield. Wanting to return to his true love of teaching and 
coaching, Joe and Juanita moved to Rozel in 1969 where he taught 
Industrial Arts, and coached both boys’ and girls’ sports for 23 years 
at Pawnee Heights.

Joe’s nickname at Pawnee Heights was “Papa Joe” and many of the 
students from the other schools picked up on the name, also. He coached 
football and boys’ basketball and track. In 1973 he began developing the
 girl’s athletic program at Pawnee Heights and coached volleyball, 
girls’ basketball, and girls’ track. Throughout his coaching career 
teams he coached won league and regional titles in football, volleyball,
 and basketball, many of the boys and girls he coached in track were 
state medal winners, as well. After retiring, Joe refereed volleyball 
for many years with former players.

Besides teaching high school industrial arts, he also taught a very 
popular adult woodworking class for Barton Community College for a 
number of years. Throughout his adult life he used his woodworking 
talents to design and make furniture, toys and other wooden items such 
as lamps, bowls, and jewelry for family and sold items at craft fairs.

Joe was very active in church and Lions Club for many years in all of
 the communities where the family lived, His volunteer work at Pawnee 
Heights after retiring included keeping the clock at football and 
basketball games, serving as judge in Quiz Bowl, and as a starter at 
track meets.&nbsp; In January 2008 he and Juanita were awarded the Master 
Volunteer Award at the league basketball tournament in Dodge City. He 
also served two terms on the Rozel City Council where he helped the city
 secure a federal grant to complete and furnish the newly built Rozel 
Community Building.

Farming in Pratt and Kiowa Counties with his father-in-law started in
 1952. After his father-in-law retired from farming, Joe, his sons, and 
two brothers assisted him until he decided it was time to retire and 
rent out the land in 1997.&nbsp; He also enjoyed hunting pheasant and quail 
with his Brittany Spaniels and fishing whenever he could for many years.
 Fishing became one of his favorite retirement pastimes.

Joe and Juanita moved to Rozel in 1969 and stayed 45 years. Due to 
health reasons they relocated to South Hutchinson, KS where she lived 
out her last few years.

Joe is survived by his children:&nbsp; Jim (Barbara) Gillaspie&nbsp;of 
Hutchinson, KS,&nbsp;Judy Gillaspie of Tulsa, OK,&nbsp;Jeff (Jeanie) Gillaspie&nbsp;of

Gillaspie, Albert (Kritika) McClure, Chad (Lori) Scates; 
great-grandchildren, Emilee Scates and Rumi McClure, two brothers: 
Morris (Letha) Gillaspie of Douglass, Ks&nbsp; and Don&nbsp; Gillaspie of&nbsp; South 
Hutchinson, Three sisters: Virginia Bracken of Burleson, TX, Belva McBee
 of Tyrone, OK and Betty (Larry) Davolt of Keys, OK.

Bobby C. Maltby, 93, passed away July 15, 2021, at Great Bend Health 
&amp; Rehabilitation Center. He was born on December 24, 1927, at 
Tonkawa, Okla. to Clyde O. &amp; Minnie E. (Burch) Maltby. He married 
Arbutus Ann Basgall on June 23, 1962, at Loretta, Kan.

A current Great Bend resident, Bobby had previously lived in Midland,
 Tex. and Oklahoma City, Okla. He was an accountant for Atlantic 
Richfield and later BP, until he retired in 1981. Bobby was a member of 
Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He was a 
veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II and
 the Korean Conflict, and was a very talented guitar, violin and banjo 
player.

Survivors include, his wife Arbutus "Boots" Maltby of Great Bend; and
 numerous beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 
parents; and a sister, Donna.

A Rosary will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, July 17, 2021, followed
 by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m., all at St. Rose of Lima 
Catholic Church in Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS and
 Father Terrance Klein presiding. Interment will be in the Great Bend 
Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the United States Navy. 
Memorials have been designated to Prince of Peace Parish, in care of 
Bryant Funeral Home.

11, 1948, she was united in marriage to her forever love, Charles C. 
McDonald, at the First Baptist Church in Council Grove. Their precious 
bond was evident and shined throughout their 68 years of marriage. He 
preceded her in death on April 8, 2016.&nbsp; She was a member of Cornerstone
 Southern Baptist Church.&nbsp; Carol was a homemaker, a volunteer at Hadley 
Hospital, and enjoyed working with others at local elections.&nbsp; She loved
 her family and especially loved caring for them.

Survivors include her two daughters - 
Peggy Flanders and husband Bill of Fort Davis, TX and Susan McDonald of 
Russell, a brother - Alan Heidel of Atlanta, GA, four grandchildren, ten
 great grandchildren, two great-great grandsons, special earthly angel -
 Brenda Evans of Hays, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband - Charles, precious infant daughter - Mary Colleen 
McDonald, and a sister - Gaila Hendren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on
 Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, with 
Pastor Jason Murray officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in Mt. Allen

Carol J. McDonald

George Alan Winter, 81, passed away January 5, 2021, at Wesley 
Medical Center, Wichita. He was born September 24, 1939, at Wichita to 
Edgar &amp; Edna (Miller) Winter. He married Mary Lee Ryan December 21, 
1963, at Hays.&nbsp;

He grew up near Boyd and graduated from Hoisington High School in 
1957. He attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, where he got his 
masters degree in education and met his wife Mary. They moved to Great 
Bend in 1964 and he taught industrial arts at Otis Bison High School 
until 1978. He started Winter Home Construction which he ran for forty 
years before retiring in 2018. He was a member of First Assembly of God 
Church and liked gospel music. He enjoyed working and going to the farm 
as well as spending time with his family. He loved to connect with 
others and offer help and encouragement to those in need.

Survivors include, his wife Mary Lee Winter; a daughter, Lisa Vance 
and husband Judd of Wichita; a son, Brad Winter; a sister, Arlene 
Anderson of McPherson; and two grandchildren, Sara Vance and Erin Vance.
 He was preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 23, 2021,
 at Great Bend Cemetery with Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. Memorials 
have been designated to Almost Home or Central Kansas Dream Center, in 
care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Phillipsburg resident Martha Kellogg passed away July 14, 2021, at the 
Phillips County Hospital in Phillipsburg at the age of 98.&nbsp; She was born
 April 17, 1923, in Sachsenflur, Germany.

Survivors include her daughter Karolyn Kellogg of Hutchinson: 2 sons,
 Kenneth of Andover &amp; Robert of Valley Center; her brother Carl 
Zollman of Phillipsburg; 7 grandchildren &amp; 11 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 19, at 10:30 a.m. in the 
Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Stuttgart, with Pastor Lee 
Bennight officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Emmanuel Lutheran 
Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9:00 Saturday &amp; Sunday at the 
funeral home with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Jeffrey Allen Robb, 62, passed away on July 9, 2021, in Oberlin, KS. He was born on February 13, 1959, in Denver, CO.
 Jeff grew up in Denver and graduated from Adams City High School in 
1977. Jeff loved to fix up old cars and trucks. He also loved to 
garden and help his brother, Mike, on their ranch in Norcatur. Jeff was
 very talented at carpentry and all-around a great handy man. He helped
 build custom homes in Aspen, CO. In his spare time, he would run 
rivers in Colorado, he did that for 50+ years. Jeff was inducted into 
the Boatman’s Hall of Fame in 2015 for being an exceptional River Raft 
Guide.
 Jeff had the biggest heart and would do anything for anyone. He 
especially loved his daughter, Shanan, and was very excited to be a 
grandpa in November. 
 He is survived by daughter Shanan (Braxton) Miller of Wilsonville, 
NE and brother Mike (Terri McDonald) Ferguson of Bend, OR and a future 
grandchild.

Walter James "Jim" Gaumer, 75, died July 13, 2021, at Bridgehaven 
Retirement Center in Lawrence, Kansas. He was born Christmas Day, 1945,
 fourth child of James A. and Garrah (Bainter) Gaumer at Norton, Kansas.
 Jim grew up in the Jennings, Kansas community where he was 
affectionately called “Jimmie”. He graduated from Jennings High School 
with the class of 1964 later attending Kansas State University, 
Manhattan, Kansas and Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas. He was a
 member of the National Guard.
 Always a “farm boy," he joined his parents in farming, ranching and 
the dirt construction business, Gaumer Terracing, which continued until 
failing health forced his retirement in 2011.
 In 1967 Jim married Judy Beth Bainter, daughter of Gayle C. and Ruth
 M. (Carstens) Bainter at the McGraw United Methodist Church, rural 
Dresden, Kansas. They were the parents of three children: Adam Gregory,
 Amy Sue and Nathan James. They resided at Jennings, Kansas until 1973 
when they purchased the farm belonging to Wesley &amp; Fern Gaumer 
located southeast of Oberlin in Custer Township. In 2011 they sold the 
farm and Judy moved to Oberlin and Jim moved to Tecumsah, Kansas. Jim 
and Judy later divorced.
 In retirement, Jim enjoyed woodworking and camping with Amy and Nathan and their families.
 Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his son Adam Gregory; and 
sister and brother-in-law Betty (Gaumer) and Carl Fitzgerald.
 Jim is survived by daughter Amy (Clayton) Erickson, Tecumseh, 
Kansas, son Nathan (Rebecca) Gaumer, grandchildren, Alix, Chase and 
Isabelle Erickson, Emma, Athena and Natalia Gaumer, Great grandchildren 
Rosie, Reid and Malea, siblings Dale (Karen) Gaumer, Noblesville, 
Indiana, sister Mary Arnold, Aurora Colorado, and friend, Sue, Topeka,

Gayona “Gay” Ramsey, 86, of Greeley, CO, formerly of Colby, KS, died 
July 6, 2021. She was born January 26, 1935, in Calico Rock, Arkansas, 
to E.O. and Agnes Woody. Gay grew up in Dyess Colony Arkansas. Chopping 
and picking cotton was her childhood. 
Gay followed her parents to Colby, Kansas in late 1952. There she met John Ramsey. They were married May 5, 1954. 
Gay devoted the rest of her life to her husband, three children, nine 
grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and two great-great 
grandchildren. 
Gay was preceded in death by her parents E.O. and Agnes Woody; her 
husband John R. Ramsey; her daughter Deanna Gay Ramsey, and two great 
grandchildren Rayanna Harsh and Aaron James Brown. Gay is also joining 
her brother, five sisters and several nieces and nephews in that 
Unbroken Circle in the Sky. 
Gay is survived by her two sons Benny and Randy Ramsey; daughter in laws
 Patty and Debbie; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Adrienne, Clint, Sarah,
 Aaron, Cody, Brandon, Erica and Taylor; seventeen great grandchildren 
and two great-great grandchildren. 
Gay never met anyone she didn't love and care about. Hate was beyond her
 comprehension, anyone who knew her, enjoyed these gifts from her.

Gayona Ramsey (Woody)

Douglas “Doug” Edward Stape, 66, passed away July 13, 2021, at Pawnee
 Valley Community Hospital, Larned. He was born January 1, 1955, at 
Jeanette, Pa., to Robert &amp; Edna (Wampler) Stape. He married Diane 
O'Malley November 4, 1993, at Winchester, W Va.&nbsp;

A resident of Great Bend for the last 14 years, Doug was a cook for 
McDonald's. He loved to watch wrestling and the Pittsburgh Steelers 
football. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and listening to music. He 
was a Veteran of the United States Army. Doug especially loved spending 
time with his family.

Survivors include, his wife, Diane Stape of the home; a son, Nicholas
 Stape of Larned; a daughter, Sarah Ankney of Greensburg, PA; two 
brothers, Robert Stape of Tenn., and Allan Stape and wife Collette of 
Mich.; and three grandchildren, Maygan, Colleen and Kiara. He was 
preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 
Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 
p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2021, 
at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. 
Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Dodge Veteran's Cemetery, 
Dodge City with Military Rites conducted by United States Army Honor 
Guard and the American Legion 8th District Honor Guard.

Jeanette, Pa., to Robert &amp; Edna (Wampler) Stape. He married Diane 
O'Malley November 4, 1993, at Winchester, W Va.&nbsp;A resident of Great Bend for the last 14 years, Doug was a cook for 
McDonald's. He loved to watch wrestling and the Pittsburgh Steelers 
football. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards and listening to music. He 
was a Veteran of the United States Army. Doug especially loved spending 
time with his family.Survivors include, his wife, Diane Stape of the home; a son, Nicholas
 Stape of Larned; a daughter, Sarah Ankney of Greensburg, PA; two 
brothers, Robert Stape of Tenn., and Allan Stape and wife Collette of 
Mich.; and three grandchildren, Maygan, Colleen and Kiara. He was 
preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be held 1:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday, July 18, 2021 at 
Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 
p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 19, 2021, 
at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. 
Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Dodge Veteran's Cemetery, 
Dodge City with Military Rites conducted by United States Army Honor

JoAnn Frances Leiker died Saturday, June 13, 2020, in hospice near her family in Lake Worth, Florida.

She was born Jan. 4, 1941, in Ellis County to Alois and Rosa Ruder.&nbsp; In 1959, she graduated from Girls Catholic High School.

On September 17, 1960, she was united 
in marriage to John H. Leiker in Hays, and they celebrated nearly 60 
years of marriage. &nbsp;She worked in the Ellis County Courthouse for many 
years until the family moved to Denver in 1973, where she worked as an 
accountant and owned her own accounting business.&nbsp; She was a founding 
member of Spirit of Christ Catholic Community Church in Arvada.&nbsp; JoAnn 
was the life of the party, loved to be social, went on several cruises, 
and loved traveling the world.

Survivors include her husband John, 
three daughters: Jacqualyne Leiker-Worters (Randy Worters), Janelle 
(Darrell) Downs, and Janine Leiker (Ed Harrison), and three 
grandchildren, Amber Worters, Jared Downs and Trina Downs.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents; three sisters, Merilda Dinges, Esther Ruder and Norine Nemecek;
 two brothers, Vernon Ruder and Victor Ruder; father and mother-in-law: 
Henry S. and Regina Leiker, two brothers-in-law: Danny Leiker and Louis

JoAnn F. (Ruder) Leiker

David Edward Armbrister, age 80, died 
Friday, May 7, 2021, at his home in rural Trego Co., Kansas after a short
 battle with cancer.&nbsp; &nbsp;He was born April 29, 1941, in Hays, Kansas at St.
 Anthony Hospital to Ed and Martha (Sauer) Armbrister.&nbsp; He attended 
grade school in rural Trego County through 8th grade where his mother 
Martha had been a school teacher and then graduated with the Class of 
1959 from Ellis High School. He met Mickey Ruth Foster when he was a 
patient at Hadley Hospital where she worked.&nbsp; He married Mickey Ruth 
Foster September 6, 1969, she preceded him in death April 21, 2015.

David began farming his family’s farm 
at a young age until his passing. He loved feeding, checking and 
watching his cattle grow. He loved planting, and harvesting his wheat 
and milo crops with all his family helping with the harvest as well as 
many others through the years. He also loved spending time with his 
family, grandkids and great grandkids showing them the family farm. He 
enjoyed his time visiting with family, friends and about anyone who 
wanted to take the time to converse.&nbsp; He started his Basic Training in 
Ft. Leonard Wood, MO on Jan. 6th, 1964 then completed his training Feb. 
27th, 1964 and finished his final training at Ft. Carson, CO. He then 
joined the National Guard 995th Maintenance Company in Hays, KS and 
attended many of the 995th Maintenance Company reunions in recent 
years.&nbsp; He was a member of the American Legion Post in Hays, KS and also
 a member of St. John Lutheran Church rural Ellis. He served for a 
period of time as a board member at the Golden Belt Coop Ellis, KS.

He is survived by his children, 
daughter, Davon Armbrister and significant other Mark Harbold, Ellis; 
sons, Michael (Gennie) Armbrister, Ellis; and Darin Armbrister, Ellis.&nbsp; 
Grandchildren, Kourtney (Skyler) Talkington, Ellis, KS; Aaron 
Schinstock, Washington DC, Brody and Bryce Armbrister, Ellis, KS; Alexa 
and Adam Armbrister, Hays, KS, Bailey (Keeli) Harbold, Hutchinson, KS,

David Edward Armbrister

Terry Allen Batt, 54, of Thornton, Colorado, passed away Monday, July 5, 2021, in Thornton.

Terry was born October 23, 1966, in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; One of two sons born to Garry and Ellen (Boxberger) Batt.&nbsp; He grew up in Russell and graduated from Russell High School Class of 1985. He graduated from Fort Hays State University with Honors, receiving the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges with outstanding merit and accomplishments.

Terry was employed with KOCH Industries in Wichita, Kansas out of college. Later he was employed with AQUAILA Energy in Kansas City, Kansas. In 2004, he was appointed the President of the South West Petroleum Inc. In 2010 he relocated to Thornton, Colorado and was employed with NGL Energy Partners LP as Senior Credit Manager.

Terry became a member of the Polka Kings Band in 1979, and enjoyed his musical career with his father, brother and many others.&nbsp; He was the organist of the Annunciation Church in Denver, Colorado.&nbsp; He also played with various bands in the Denver area.&nbsp; He was also very active with the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (Volga Germans).

Terry’s surviving family includes his parents, Garry and Ellen Batt of Russell, Kansas; brother, Tom Batt (Sandy) of Russell, Kansas; two nephews, two great nieces and a great nephew.

Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Esther Batt and Sigmund and Rosa Boxberger.

Celebration of Terry’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 16, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.&nbsp; A private family burial of ashes will follow at a later date at Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery.&nbsp; No visitation will be held.&nbsp;

Wanda Mae McFarland, 95, died July 11, 2021. She was born on April 4,
 1926, on the family farm near&nbsp;Milan, KS. She was the 5 th of seven 
children born to Oran &amp; Edna Sellers. Wanda attended Milan 
high&nbsp;school where she met Ervin. They were married on Feb. 8, 1943.

Wanda was a war time bride and spent four months worrying while Ervin
 was a POW in Germany. Wanda and Ervin lived in several 
Kansas&nbsp;communities and ended up in Valley Center. They raised four 
children: Merlin, Terry, Larry &amp; Lisa. Wanda retired after 17 years 
from Stearman Aircraft in Valley Center. Wanda&nbsp; sold AVON for 36 
years&nbsp;until she retired at age 94. She was in the Avon President’s Club 
for 36 years for sales of more&nbsp;than $10,000 in a year.

Wanda and Ervin began attending the Milan Church of Christ early in 
their marriage. Church&nbsp;became an important part of their lives finding 
church homes when they lived in Hays, KS and&nbsp;then at Northside Church of
 Christ when they moved to Valley Center. Ervin and Wanda were&nbsp;among the
 Founders of the Valley Center of Christ about 1975. After that church 
closed, she&nbsp;returned to Northside Church of Christ where she remained a 
member until her death.&nbsp;

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, 
Ervin; her parents Oran &amp; Edna Sellers: siblings, Lorraine&nbsp;Hogue, 
Meryl Sellers, Marvin Sellers, Maxine Ellison, Oran Sellers Jr, &amp; 
Evelyn Carr. She is also preceded&nbsp;by 3 nieces, 3 nephews, and 1 
grandson, Mitch Carrithers. 

Wanda is survived by her children: 
Merlin&nbsp;(Nita) McFarland of Kingman KS, Terry (Donna) McFarland of 
Westerville, Ohio, Larry (Brenda)&nbsp;McFarland of Kansas City, MO. &amp;

Joe was born July 19, 1956 to John E. and Edna M. (Meyer) Russell in

On July 22, 2005 he married Vicky Fields in Goodland.&nbsp; They moved to 
Goodland in 2012 and he worked as a truck driver for Helena Chemical.&nbsp; 
Joe enjoyed car shows, construction and spending time with his family 
and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Linda Stoudt.&nbsp;

Joseph E. Russell

Keith Gerard Zerr, 63, of Gove, KS, died Friday, July 9th, 2021, at Gove
 County Medical Center, after a difficult and well-fought battle with 
colorectal cancer. He was born in Oakley, KS; the fourth child to Peter 
C. and Blanche Zerr. 
Forever in a hurry to get where he was going, he was nearly born in the 
car on the way to the hospital. As a child, he enjoyed playing games 
with his siblings and cousins. Keith remembered having very few toys in 
those days, so they played many of the “classic” games—baseball, 
football, Red Rover, kick-the-can, tag, and hide-and-seek, just to name a
 few. Keith’s favorite games were the ones his sister, Lynette, just 
made up, and of course, the miniature farm that he and his brother, 
Darren, created under the backyard trees. Some of Keith’s favorite 
memories were the family vacations with the Joneses that covered almost 
every inch of the state of Colorado. Until his last breath, Keith and 
his family were very close. In addition to his three brothers and one 
sister, Keith had more than 70 cousins, and each and every one of them 
held a special place in his heart. 
Keith graduated from Wheatland High School in May of 1976. From there he
 attended Fort Hays State University to pursue a degree in agribusiness,
 which he earned in 1980. Keith returned home to continue working with 
his father on the family farm near Gove, where he went on to meet the 
love of his life, Jacky Heier. They were later married in May of 1986 
and went on to have five children. 
Growing up, Keith remembered his family enjoying music—and soon, music 
became a large part of his life too. He first enjoyed the piano and then
 the saxophone. At Fort Hays State, he was introduced to his favorite 
instrument: the guitar. Not counting family and the Lord, this hobby was
 the love of his life. Through the years, he played in several bands, 
singing, and playing guitar, and was lucky enough to form lifelong 
friendships along the way. Ultimately, his passion and talent earned him
 his nickname “Keith Guitar Zerr”—which stuck with him ever since. His 
favorite guitar experience was playing for Mass at St. Agnes, and his 
biggest regret was having that cut short just as he was getting the hang
 of it. 
Keith felt very fortunate to have had a successful career in 
agriculture. This labor of love was largely successful because of his 
loving and understanding wife, Jacky; a wonderful partner in his older 
brother, Kevin; a solid foundation laid by his parents and grandparents;
 and finally, the dedicated efforts of his children. 
Keith is survived by his wife, Jacky Zerr, of Gove, KS; his five 
children, Jordan Zerr, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jason (Whitney) Zerr, of 
Grainfield, KS, Kenton (Jennifer) Zerr, of Overland Park, KS, Kaitlyn 
(Keaton) Knott of Leawood, KS, and Kirsten Zerr (fiancé Collin Schmidt) 
of Overland Park, KS; his grandchildren, Liam, Eli, and Natalie Zerr 
(Jason and Whitney’s), Luca and Noah Zerr (Kenton and Jennifer’s); his 
mother, Blanche Zerr, of Quinter, KS; and his four siblings, Dennis

Keith Gerard Zerr

James Francis Schmidt passed away 
peacefully on January 22, 2020 in Scottsdale, AZ. He was 97 years of 
age.&nbsp;Jim was born on April 22, 1922 in Hays, Kansas&nbsp;to Jacob A. and 
Elizabeth Schmidt.&nbsp; He graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy in 
Hays, and served in the U.S. Army from June, 1942 to 1945 where he was 
stationed in New Guinea during WWII. He rose to the rank of Captain and 
was awarded the Bronze Star. He served as C.O. in the Kansas Army 
National Guard in Council Grove, KS.&nbsp; He married Lillian Mae Keberlein 
on January 21, 1946 in Topeka, KS. &nbsp;

Jim had a highly successful career as 
manager of the D S &amp; O Rural Electrification Association in Solomon,
 KS from 1954 to 1987 and represented the Kansas Electric Cooperatives 
in Washington, D.C. &nbsp;He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and 
Lions Club in Solomon, KS.

He was a loving husband, father and 
grandfather. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Schmidt, of Sun 
City West, AZ, his son, Terry Schmidt and his wife, Mary, and three 
grandchildren, James, John and Margaret of Scottsdale, AZ.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Mae Schmidt.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, July 16, 2021&nbsp;at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Catharine, KS. &nbsp;Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Catharine with military honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard.&nbsp;&nbsp;

James Francis Schmidt

The world is a lonelier place with the passing of Bonnie Sue 
Jeffries-Evans-Samson, 81, of Ludell, KS, on July 12,2021 at McCook 
Community Hospital. Bonnie was born May 31, 1940, to Marion and Eva 
(Yeo) Jeffries of Atwood, KS. She was the middle of two other sisters, 
Alberta and Marian Ellaine. 
Bonnie graduated from High School, in Atwood, KS, in 1957. She went to 
Denver, CO to pursue her license in Cosmetology, where she met William 
(Bill) Evans. Bonnie and Bill married on June 28, 1960 and were married 
for 32 years. During their marriage, they had 3 daughters, Becky, 
Barbara, and Beverly. Affectionately known as the ‘B”-Hive. 
After Bonnie and Bill divorced, Bonnie went on to earn her Associates 
Degree in CAD Engineering at the age of 55 and worked at Boeing for the 
next 5 years. 
Sometime in 2008, Bonnie moved back into the Atwood area (Bird City). A 
couple of years later she ran into her old classmate, Richard Samson. 
They were married on January 26, 2013. Her comments were that God 
brought them together and she passed happily in love. 
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Alberta and Marian Ellaine. 
She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Samson; her children, 
Becky &amp; Gerald Lister, of Greeley, CO, Barbara &amp; Les Steiner, of
 McDonald, KS, and Beverly Evans &amp; Mark Ramser, of Brighton, CO;

Lidia Elizabeth Hurst, 21, of Topeka, KS passed away on July 9, 2021. 
She was born October 16, 1999, in Colby, KS to Jared Hurst and Tiffany 
(Fletcher) Hurst. 
Lidia attended Rawlins County High School and received her high school 
diploma from the Thomas County Learning Center in 2018. She attended 
Paul Mitchell School of Cosmetology in Wichita, KS. She was currently 
continuing her education taking online courses from Central Christian 
College of Kansas majoring in psychology. 
Lidia loved and cherished her family and friends above all else and 
enjoyed spending time with them creating memories they will forever 
cherish. She was a stunningly beautiful and kind young lady with a 
contagious smile that loved to travel and made lifelong friends 
everywhere she went. She had an outgoing, bubbly, silly personality 
(cows go meep!) that had the ability to make the people around her 
smile. 
Lidia who also went by Wiea, Squidia, Lider and Liea, loved creating and
 using nicknames for those she loved such as Her Monsters (Maci and 
Callen, after they outgrew being called the babies), Tafferin or Baby K 
(Kathryn), Guppy (Callen), Maci Moo Moo. Samiososa (Samuel). She would 
also often refer to her parents as Merm and Paco. 
She is survived by her parents Jared and Jennifer Hurst and Tiffany 
(Fletcher) Hurst; her siblings, Matthew Hanzlick, Kathleen (Jeremiah) 
Taulborg, Samuel, Kathryn, Maci and Callen Hurst; her grandparents,

Lidia Elizabeth Hurst

William Terry Blake, 81, passed away July 10, 2021, at Diversicare of
 Larned. He was born September 4, 1939, in Larned, to William Ralph 
&amp; Wilma (Keeton) Blake. He married Connie (Howell) Schuld November 
6, 1959, and they later divorced after 20 years of marriage. He then 
married Alice Darlene (Bridwell) Short March 14, 1981, in Garden City.

Terry graduated from Rozel High School in 1957. He attended Fort Hays
 State University to become a CPA but after a year he changed his major.
 Moving to Great Bend from Pawnee Rock in 1986, Terry was a farmer. He 
also had worked in the construction business as well, until he retired 
in 2003, having worked for Larned State Hospital and Marlette Motor 
Homes. He was a former member of Extreme Hope Christian Fellowship 
Church, current member of Eagles Lodge #647, and enjoyed fellowship at 
the BPOE Elks Lodge 1127.&nbsp; Terry enjoyed fishing, hunting elk and 
sitting in his favorite chair, from his grandmother, in his front yard, 
watching the world go by.&nbsp; In his younger years, Terry enjoyed singing, 
along with his brother and two sisters, with the “Singing Blakes”.

Survivors include, his wife Darlene Blake of the home; his children, 
Jeff Blake (Chris Shelton) of Kansas City, Mo., Jill Eckfeld (Greg) of 
Warrensburg, Mo., and Jon Blake of Pittsburg; two stepsons, Kenneth 
Short (Tammy), and Donald Short, all of Great Bend; “forever daughter”, 
Debbie Lamb of Great Bend; his siblings, Sheryl Carmichael of Norman, 
Okla., Dan Blake of Dallas, Tex., and Sandy Blake of Norman, Okla.; 
seven grandchildren, Trista Calhoun (Sam), Nikki Blake, Cody Blake 
(Ashley), Brenton Blake (Kimberly), Benjamin Blake (Jessica), Kendra 
Veyon (Joel), and Kasey Vera (Joel); eight great grandchildren; four 
step grandchildren, Merry Releford, Darcy Short Nye, Andrea Short, and 
Kendra Vonfeldt; fifteen step great grandchildren; and his canine 
companion, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his father, William Ralph 
Blake; and mother and step father, Wilma and Herman Dirks.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 
15, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from

 </figure>William Terry Blake, 81, passed away July 10, 2021, at Diversicare of
 Larned. He was born September 4, 1939, in Larned, to William Ralph 
&amp; Wilma (Keeton) Blake. He married Connie (Howell) Schuld November 
6, 1959, and they later divorced after 20 years of marriage. He then 
married Alice Darlene (Bridwell) Short March 14, 1981, in Garden City.Terry graduated from Rozel High School in 1957. He attended Fort Hays
 State University to become a CPA but after a year he changed his major.
 Moving to Great Bend from Pawnee Rock in 1986, Terry was a farmer. He 
also had worked in the construction business as well, until he retired 
in 2003, having worked for Larned State Hospital and Marlette Motor 
Homes. He was a former member of Extreme Hope Christian Fellowship 
Church, current member of Eagles Lodge #647, and enjoyed fellowship at 
the BPOE Elks Lodge 1127.&nbsp; Terry enjoyed fishing, hunting elk and 
sitting in his favorite chair, from his grandmother, in his front yard, 
watching the world go by.&nbsp; In his younger years, Terry enjoyed singing, 
along with his brother and two sisters, with the “Singing Blakes”.Survivors include, his wife Darlene Blake of the home; his children, 
Jeff Blake (Chris Shelton) of Kansas City, Mo., Jill Eckfeld (Greg) of 
Warrensburg, Mo., and Jon Blake of Pittsburg; two stepsons, Kenneth 
Short (Tammy), and Donald Short, all of Great Bend; “forever daughter”, 
Debbie Lamb of Great Bend; his siblings, Sheryl Carmichael of Norman, 
Okla., Dan Blake of Dallas, Tex., and Sandy Blake of Norman, Okla.; 
seven grandchildren, Trista Calhoun (Sam), Nikki Blake, Cody Blake 
(Ashley), Brenton Blake (Kimberly), Benjamin Blake (Jessica), Kendra 
Veyon (Joel), and Kasey Vera (Joel); eight great grandchildren; four 
step grandchildren, Merry Releford, Darcy Short Nye, Andrea Short, and 
Kendra Vonfeldt; fifteen step great grandchildren; and his canine 
companion, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his father, William Ralph 
Blake; and mother and step father, Wilma and Herman Dirks.Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, July 
15, 2021 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., 
Friday, July 16, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home with Chaplain Jeffrey Owen
 presiding. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend.
