Robert I. “Bob” Hall, 95, longtime Hays resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021 at the Fort Dodge Soldiers’ Home.

He was born March 28, 1926 in Hays, the son of Robert L. and Edith (Irwin) Hall.&nbsp; He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served in WWII and was a member of the Occupational Forces stationed in Japan following the war.&nbsp; He re-enlisted and served in the Korean War.&nbsp; Bob was a rancher and operated Sweetwater Ranch.&nbsp; On July 1, 1968 he was united in marriage to Leonilda “Nilda” Orth in Salina and they were married 45 years before she died on Jan. 18, 2014.&nbsp; He was a member of the Masons, the Ellis County Rural Fire Department, active in the Civil Air Patrol, achieving the rank of Captain, and a life member of the American Legion and VFW.&nbsp; Bob enjoyed collecting antiques and firearms in his spare time and enjoyed visiting with friends and family.

Survivors include his two sons: Gary L. Hall of Norton and George L. Hall and wife Janet of Liberal, a daughter: Denise Bruce of Newton, two step daughters: Darlene Gansel and husband Richard of Hill City and Patricia Herbig and husband David of Blue Springs, Mo., and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nilda, a son: Robert I. Hall Jr. two sisters: Margaret Stebens and husband Johnny and Mildred Zinszer and husband Richard.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Delbert Stanton officiating.

Burial with military honors by the Hays VFW Post #9076 Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Allen Cemetery. Maurice Dean Jeffries, 86, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 
22,&nbsp; 2021, at the St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was
 born on Jan. 19, 1935, in Modoc, the son of Forrest Franklin
 and Mabel Leoti Shearmire Jeffries.

Dean was a resident of Leoti from 1960 until 2012 when he moved to Scott City. In 
2014 he moved to Garden City.&nbsp; Dean was an AA member for 44 
years.

He was the owner and operator of Jeffries Electric in Leoti
until the late 1990’s when he went to work for Maple Creek Farms as 
project manager for seven years before he retired.

He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witness Congregation in Garden City.

On Aug. 12, 1954, he married Mona Rhea Burgess in Garden City. She passed away on Nov. 23, 2018, in Garden City.

Survivors include his two daughters - Cynthia and Kenneth Becker of
 Garden City, Stephanie and James Fontenot of Garden City; one son - N. James Jeffries of Leoti; one brother - 
Robert and Patricia Jeffries of Modoc; four grandchildren - 
Jennifer and Mark Doll of Garden City, Tori Jeffries of Healy, Jordan Becker of Norman, Okla.; Logan Fontenot of Garden 
City; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, two grandsons - Trax Fontenot, Casey Becker, one great -grandson - Garrett 
Doll.

Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, 
2022, at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Scott City. The

at the Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born on Nov. 9,

 Anabelle Brown Lenz.&nbsp; A resident of Luray, since 2014 moving 
from Garden City. She was a truck dispatcher and truck driver.

She was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Garden City.

On Nov. 8,&nbsp;&nbsp;2008, she married Kenneth A. Kuhn in Garden City.&nbsp; He survives.

Survivors include her husband - Kenneth A. Kuhn of Luray; two step-children - Nathan L. Kuhn of Haleyville, Ala., Sherri L. Slaton
 of Bear Creek, Ala.; one step-daughter-in-law - Edith Hohrmann of 
Waukegan, Ill.; one brother - Virgil Kenneth Lenz Jr. of Las 
Animas, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters - Virgie Schielke and Linda Farris.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m.&nbsp;Friday, Dec. 31, 2021,&nbsp;at the Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.

Corrine L. Kuhn

Ronald N. Haney, 85, joined his mother and father in heaven on 
Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at Leisure Homestead in Stafford. Ronald
 was born on Sept. 20, 1936, in Hutchinson, the son of Phillip 
and Lenora Cole Haney. Ron grew up in Stafford County moving to Colby, when he was 10 developing a love of sports.

During junior high and high school, Ron played all sports Colby had 
to offer. He played football while in college at K-State, with his 
senior year at Fort Hays State. Ron graduated from Fort Hays with a 
double major in biology and health and recreation. Ron and Ramona Cayton
 met on the Fort Hays campus. Ramona needed a ride back to Thomas County
 and a year later on Aug. 3, 1958, they were married in Colby.

After college, he taught school and coached various sports for 12 
years. He taught at Herndon, Selden, Sharon Springs and Brewster.&nbsp; In 
1972 Ron and their family moved to Garden City, where he worked for 
Lee construction. He continued his love for sports by being an avid GCCC
 Bronc Buster fan. He encouraged all his children to try their hardest 
and give all sports a chance. His passion for creating beautiful works 
of art out of wood led him to be a life member of the Wood Carvers of 
America group and created a new position at Lee Construction as a 
pattern maker. Later working as a chief pattern maker for AcraPlant.

Along with sports and wood carving, animals were a lifelong passion. 
Ron spent many years with the Garden City Kennel Club. His retirement 
was used driving for Kansas SRS, taking patients all over the state.

Ron spent his final evening watching his grandson coach the Stafford 
High School boys’ basketball team's victory over the Pretty Prairie 
boys. His grandparents and family lived in Pretty Prairie most of their 
lives. We are comforted by the thought that his last night was spent 
enjoying sports and family.

Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ramona Haney of Garden City.
 Son, Rod Haney, and wife Jeanette of Burden. Three daughters, Renee and
 husband Rex Slover of Murphy, Texas, Rochelle and husband JC Smith of 
Stafford, and RaDonna Perrin of Queen City, Texas; 13 grandchildren, and
 13 great-grandchildren.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Phil and Lenora Haney, grandson Ryan Haney and son-in-law Ken Perrin.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 
2022,&nbsp;at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Memorial

Ronald N. Haney

Judy Anne Davis was born Feb. 11, 1938 in Great Bend to Allen Frank and A. Alice (Goodwin) Broadbooks. She passed away Dec. 18, 2021 in Norton, at the age of 83. Judy grew up in Hays, and graduated from Hays High School. After graduation, she married and began raising her family with her husband on a farm south of Plainville. The family moved to rural Norton County in 1964 and she continued raising her four children while working as a high school para-educator and as a nurse’s aide at the medical clinic in Norton. She became a floral designer at a local floral shop, which she then purchased to create her own flower and gift business, Country Garden, which she ran for 20 years.

In 2000, Judy sold Country Garden and opened Brick House Candles &amp; Gifts where she was a tea consultant and tea party hostess. In 2004 Judy retired and moved to Oberlin, where she lived with her daughter Leigh and continued to host tea parties for her family and friends until moving back to Norton in 2011. 

She was a member of the Mid-Century Federated Club for 30 years, the Norton Chamber of Commerce for 20 years, where she served as president for two years, and The Haughty Hatters of Northwest Kansas Red Hat Club. Judy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norton, as well as the Oberlin United Methodist Church and was an active member of United Methodist Women for many years, serving in leadership positions in both Norton and Oberlin. Her passion was Christian education and mentoring young women in the mission of UMW. Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Alice Broadbooks; daughters, Kimberly A. Davis and Leigh Anne Davis; brother, Steve Allen Broadbooks; sisters, Marci Jane Broadbooks, June Marie Kline and Allena Renee Reese; two nephews, one niece and one great-nephew.

She is survived by her children: Barbara Lynn Balser of Salina, Donald (Cynthia) Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Larry Joe Davis of Colorado; grandchildren: Monica Graves of Marceline, Mo., Lisa Lane of Wichita, Erica (Jimmy) Blackwell of Wamego, Sarah Davis of Austin, Texas, Madeline Davis of Scottsdale, Ariz., Kallista Davis of Colorado, and Gabriell Davis of Colorado; great-grandsons, Steven and Jayson Graves of Marceline, Mo.; sister Malia (Harold) Westbrook of Alexander; brother-in-law, Norman Kline of Norton; sister-in-law, Helen Broadbooks of Blanchard, Okla., and many nieces, nephews, and friends. A celebration of life service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2022 at First United Methodist Church in Norton. A private family inurnment will be at the Oberlin Cemetery, Oberlin.

Judy Anne Davis

Richard Lee Shimanek, 84, of Leoti, passed away tragically on Dec. 16, 2021 from injuries he incurred while trying to save his house and farm from a prairie fire.

Richard was born and raised on a wheat farm near Hennessey, Okla., where he lived with his eight siblings and learned the value of hard work. He played football for Hennessey High School where he was an all-conference guard and carried on his school spirit by teaching the school fight song to his kids and grandkids.

He was drafted into the United States Army and served as a radio operator and was chosen to be on the rifle team. Richard worked multiple jobs in the oil and gas business and custom harvested for 19 years.

He married his beautiful bride Mary Peggy Brenny on Nov. 26, 1964 at St Joseph’s in Hennessey, Okla. Richard and Mary Peggy settled in Kansas where they dedicated Richard’s last 44 years to raising a family and farming.

Richard had an infectious smile and laugh. He talked to everyone he encountered (sometimes in Czech). He loved his family and friends fiercely and would travel many hours to be near them. He was a great storyteller, hard worker and was always fixing something. His generous heart was always reaching out to those in need, even if it was a stranger on a street corner.

He loved elk hunting and trout fishing in Colorado and spent many summers camping and boating with his family. Richard was a Wichita County Commissioner, baseball coach, 4-H tractor instructor and avid gun collector.

Richard is survived by his wife Mary Peggy, four children Melinda Shimanek Shively (Tim), Aurora, Colo., Melissa Shimanek Ginther (Doug), Hays, Brian Shimanek (Kristin), Montgomery, Texas and Chris Shimanek (Erin), Boca Raton, Fla., 13 grandchildren, Madi, Drew, Grant, Hailey, Kenton, Grace, MaKayla, MaKenna, Allie, Gabe, Noah, Emmett and Sammie, and four siblings Bernie Shimanek, Jim Shimanek, Rose Ann Shimanek Schovanec, and Danny Shimanek. &nbsp;Richard was preceded in death by his parents Bunk and Fannie Shimanek, his brothers Ernie and Steve Shimanek and sisters Alice Shimanek Jones and Betty Shimanek Hudson.

The family will have a viewing at Price &amp; Sons Funeral Home in Leoti from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a vigil and Rosary on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s in Leoti, followed by his funeral on Dec. 28 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s.

There will be a luncheon at St. Anthony’s hall immediately following the burial.

SunPorch in Dodge City. He was born on April 23, 1937, in Hays, the son of George and Opal French Gruver. A resident of Dodge 
City, since 2019. Moving from Topeka, he was a retired 
agronomist.

He was a member of the Topeka Bible Church in Topeka, and the Church of the Nazarene in Dodge City.

On Aug. 11, 1962, he married Patty Jean Landon in Dighton. She survives.

 Harold White, 66, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakin of 
natural causes on Dec. 18, 2021. A lifetime resident of Lakin, “Bill” 
was born on Oct. 24, 1955, to Harold E. White and Thelma F. Stout.

He
 attended school in Lakin, graduating in 1973 from Lakin High School 
where he excelled in his classes. After graduation, he attended and 
graduated from Garden City Community College and then graduated from 
Fort Hays State University, with degrees in accounting and business administration. He was employed as an insurance agent for Kearny County 
Farm Bureau, then worked for many years as an antique dealer at Antiques
 'N Things in Lakin. As an infant, Bill was baptized at the First 
Presbyterian Church in Lakin.

An avid amateur astronomer, Bill traveled with a tour group by bus to
 Manitoba, Canada to observe the total solar eclipse in Feb. 1979. Other
 special interests included reading anything he could get his hands on, 
science, vintage and antique cars, and collecting scale models of cars, 
airplanes, and lighthouses. One of his high school friends said he was 
often more intelligent than the teachers in school. A favorite quote of 
Bill's was: “ I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the

Survivors include his one brother - David T. White and wife 
Katherine, Lakin. Nephews Timothy D. White and wife Tonya, Lakin, and 
Adam B. White, Lakin. Great-nephews: Edan, Levi, Dane, and Theo White, 
and great-nieces Jennabelle, Desi, and Tatum White, all of Lakin.

Bill 
was preceded in death by his parents, paternal grandparents Ernest and 
Elizabeth White of Lakin, and maternal grandparents, William and Violet 
Stout of Linden, Iowa.

Per Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family 
graveside service will be held in the spring. There will be no calling

She is survived by her sisters, Linda Miner, Edith "Billie" Boyd, and Mary Storer.

June graduated from Downs High School class of 1957.

She was a&nbsp; "June-of-all-trades" including owning Cady's Casual's Dress Shop, insurance agent, CNA at Osborne County Hospital, caregiver at Beloit Juvenile Facility for Girls, and custodian for Osborne Public Schools.&nbsp;

She enjoyed cooking, gardening, yard work, going to auctions, and spending time with her family.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Her dry sense of humor and wonderful home-cooked meals will be missed by many.&nbsp;

June was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bill, and three sons: Trae, Tim, and Tom. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Judith A. Johnson.

at Citizens Medical Center, in Colby. He was born April 9, 1937, in 
Atwood, to Frank and Helen (Mergenmeier) Cersovsky. 

Maurice was a 
United States Army Veteran. He loved the country and had a sharp mind 
for business and finance, which served him well as a lifelong farmer.

On
 June 15, 1974, Maurice married Barbara Williams. Maurice enjoyed food, 
especially German and Mexican food. He was a talker, loved people, and 
enjoyed visiting with others at the coffee shop. He also loved to 
travel. Trips to California and Canada, were some of his favorites. 
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; wife Barbara and siblings,
 Paul Cersovsky, Rosalie Cersovsky and Robert Cersovsky. 
He is survived by his children, Tina (Jerry) Carpenter, Manhattan, Kan., 
Shelly (Scott) Rochester, Baldwin City, Mike (Saima) Richards, 
Omaha, Neb., Bret Richards, El Cajon, Calif. and Lisa (Carlo) Cersovsky, 
Oakville, Ontario, Canada; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and

Simon Cousins, 74, of Oakley, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at the
 Logan County Hospital. He was born on Nov. 29, 1947, in Colby, 
to Harold and Velma (Dawson) Cousins, of Oakley.

He graduated from 
Oakley High School in 1965. He married Ginger (Kinne) Cousins on March 
5, 1970. Simon served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1969 and the U.S. 
Army Reserves from 1969 to 1973. He was a member of the Kansas Army 
National Guards from 1973 to 1997. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. 
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Cousins, of Oakley; 
brother Randy Cousins, of Branson, Mo., and niece Michelle Lynn Cole, of 
Broken Arrow, Okla. 
He is survived by his wife Ginger Cousins, of Oakley; children,

5, 1970. Simon served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1969 and the U.S. 
Army Reserves from 1969 to 1973. He was a member of the Kansas Army 
National Guards from 1973 to 1997. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. 
He was preceded in death by his father Harold Cousins, of Oakley; 
brother Randy Cousins, of Branson, Mo., and niece Michelle Lynn Cole, of 
Broken Arrow, Okla. 
He is survived by his wife Ginger Cousins, of Oakley; children, 
Marvin Cousins, of Oakley, Wesley “Wes” Cousins, of Wichita, and 
William “Bill” and Wendy Cousins, of Hoxie; mother Velma “Mae” 
Cousins, of Oakley; brother Richard Cousins, of Oakley; sisters 
Sheryl Cousins, of Snellville, Ga., and Sandy and Gary Cole of Broken 
Arrow, Okla.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many

Margery Jean Frusher, age 101, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 17, 2021, at Cedar Village, Ness City, Kansas. She was born Nov. 3, 1920, in Salina, to Vance and Bessie Magdalena (Sloan) Russell.

She was raised on the family ranch, west of Fredonia and graduated from Fredonia High School in 1938. After finishing business school, she enrolled at K-State University in 1941 where she met William A. “Bill” Frusher. They married Oct. 16, 1943.&nbsp; After Bill was honorably discharged from the Navy, they returned to Ness County to help with the family farm. Bill and Margery had four sons. Bill passed away on Sept 10, 1957.

After her sons were in school, Margery graduated from St. Mary’s of the Plains with an elementary education degree. She taught at the Bazine Grade School for 20 years.

Margery was very active in many organizations and clubs. She was a lifetime member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Delta Cappa Gamma and DAR. She joined the Ness County Historical Society in 1990 and served as president for 13 years. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed the Reading Group.

Margery was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Ness City and taught ladies’ Sunday school for many years.

Margery was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William A; her son, William J; brothers, Orlin and Lee; sisters, Dorothy Ann, Betty, and Margaret.

Margery is survived by sons, Stephen Frusher and his wife, Margaret of Rapid City, S.D., David Frusher of House, N.M. and Thomas Frusher and his wife, Susan of Ness City; sister, June Huerter of Kansas City, Kan.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Lisa Kum Soon Polkinghorne, 59, passed away Dec. 18, 2021, at her home peacefully in Great Bend. She was born on July 20, 1962, at Seoul, South Korea, to parents Dong Cheul and Kyung Rae Kang. She married Bruce Polkinghorne Sept. 1, 1984 at Radcliff, Ky. They were married for 37 years.

A long-time Great Bend resident, Lisa worked in the cafeteria at Fuller Brush and most importantly, a stay-at-home mother. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She enjoyed walking, exercising, knitting prayer shawls, and having coffee with her friends. Lisa especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include, her husband Bruce Polkinghorne of the home; a son, Luke Polkinghorne of Grand Junction, Colo.; a daughter, Stacy Dobratz and husband Shaun of Great Bend; two brothers, David Cho of California and Kwong Yong Cho of Seaol, South Korea; two sisters, Chin Soon Mollohan of North Carolina, and Kum Ok Cho of Seoul, South Korea; two granddaughters, Mikkayla Kouba and Reese Dobratz; and another grandchild on the way. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Young Hoon and Jae Hoon.

Charlotte Ann Werth, 84, Hays, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2021 at her home.

She was born June 29, 1937 on the family farm east of Munjor, the oldest daughter of Clarence and Helen (Windholz) Herl.&nbsp; She was a 1955 graduate of Girls Catholic High School.

On Oct. 11, 1955 she was united in marriage to Donald P. Werth in Munjor, and they were married nearly 63 years before he died on June 1, 2018.

From 1955-1956, she was secretary for the Ellis County engineer. She went on to manage the recordkeeping for the family farm and oil pumping work, and she later worked at the St. Anthony Hospital Gift Shop.

In addition to helping run the family farm, Charlotte’s biggest impact to the family was her emphasis on the Catholic faith.&nbsp; Like many other mothers raising families in the ‘60s and ‘70s, Charlotte was good at producing a lot out of a little and teaching her children to do the same.

She volunteered throughout the community with the St. Anthony’s Auxiliary, Good Samaritan Auxiliary, St. John’s Auxiliary, and with 4-H as a project leader.&nbsp; She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the St. Francis Church Christian Mothers, and took Holy Communion to the homebound.&nbsp; Charlotte was very organized and enjoyed genealogy, baking, photography, painting, crafts, and growing plants, flowers, and vegetables. She loved her family, attending daily mass, and in every aspect of her life put God first.

Survivors include her three sons: Ronald L. Werth and wife Mary Margaret of Hutchinson, Richard J. Werth and Janice Goff of Hays, and Randal C. Werth and wife Michelle of Hays, a daughter: Renee Michaud and husband Gerard of Hays, two sisters: Marilyn Dreiling of Hays and Arlene Weigel and husband Eugene of Gorham, grandchildren: Anne Werth, Phillip Werth, Ryan Werth and fiancé Jessica Yarmer, Shelly Werth, Jennifer Jaymes and husband Bryon, Randi Gerstner and husband Derek, Monica Michaud, and Hannah Michaud and fiancé Matt Shobe, great-grandchildren: Trexton Murphy, Keegan Copelan, Bryson Werth, Corbin Werth, Weston Werth, Maxwell Gerstner, Dalton Werth, Zoe Gerstner, Bentley Gerstner, Atlas Jaymes, and Nevaeh Jaymes, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, and brother-in-law: Dennis Dreiling.

Robert E. “Bob” McQuilliam, 82, Hays died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by family.

He was born Dec. 15, 1939 in Hutchinson, the son of Lloyd and Dorothy (Scheele) McQuilliam. In 1957 he graduated from Hutchinson High School. He served in the National Guard.&nbsp; 

From the age of 16, Bob worked in the flour milling industry, retiring in 1995.&nbsp; After his retirement, he was a bus driver for USD 489 and earned the honor of Employee of the Year his first year.

On Nov. 18, 1995, he was united in marriage to Susan S. “Sue” Leuck in Hays, and they were married 26 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and for a short time was on the Pro Bowling Circuit. Bob loved his ‘57 Chevy, which was his pride and joy. He was known to be frugal when shopping and enjoyed fishing and traveling with Sue.

Survivors include his wife Sue of Hays, son: Michael McQuilliam and wife Kerryn of Lindsborg; daughter: Kristine Jackman and husband Doug of Chicago; son-in-law: JT Penner of Newton; three sisters: Nancy Costigan-Talbott and husband Bill of Hays, Judy Anderson and husband Phil of Loveland, Colo., and Sue Oglesby of Wichita; six grandchildren: Jon Penner, Anyssa Pepe, Andrew Jackman, Abigail Jackman, Camden McQuilliam, and Kinnon McQuilliam; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Jo Wright

Karlene Kay Schenk, 83, died Dec. 19, 2021, at Azria Health of Great Bend. She was born Oct. 21, 1938, on the family farm south of Dorrance,, the daughter of Edwin and Donalda (Ivie) Kraus.&nbsp;

On Feb. 12, 1958, she married Donald D. “Shorty” Schenk, in Olmitz.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1980.

Karlene was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and Altar Society. She worked for more than 20 years cooking and cleaning for Father Ultan Murphy.&nbsp;

She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Hickel and husband Jim of Claflin; son, Randy Schenk of Great Bend; brothers, Dale Kraus and wife Connie of Ellinwood, Donnie Kraus and wife Patty of Madras, Oregon; and Leonard Kraus of Oregon; sister-in-law, Beverly Kraus of Denver; and one grandson, Dylan Hickel of Claflin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three sons, Darrell, Ronnie and Larry Schenk; and a brother, Francis Kraus.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz, with Father Stephen Dabanka presiding. Friends may sign the book now and until service at the funeral home.&nbsp; There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place.

She was born Oct. 21, 1938, on the family farm south of Dorrance,, the daughter of Edwin and Donalda (Ivie) Kraus.&nbsp;On Feb. 12, 1958, she married Donald D. “Shorty” Schenk, in Olmitz.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1980.<figure>

She worked for more than 20 years cooking and cleaning for Father Ultan Murphy.&nbsp;She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Hickel and husband Jim of Claflin; son, Randy Schenk of Great Bend; brothers, Dale Kraus and wife Connie of Ellinwood, Donnie Kraus and wife Patty of Madras, Oregon; and Leonard Kraus of Oregon; sister-in-law, Beverly Kraus of Denver; and one grandson, Dylan Hickel of Claflin.She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three sons, Darrell, Ronnie and Larry Schenk; and a brother, Francis Kraus.A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at St. Ann Cemetery, Olmitz, with Father Stephen Dabanka presiding. Almena resident, Joanne L. (Moreland) Miller passed away Dec. 20, 2021 at the Norton County Hospital in Norton at the age of 78.

Joanne was born Oct. 16, 1943 in Omaha, Neb., the daughter of Lloyd and Gladys (Gipe) Moreland. She attended school in Almena.

On Dec. 24, 1960 she was united in marriage to Larry Miller.&nbsp; They had one daughter, Teresa.

Joanne worked at the Norton State Hospital for several years as a LMHT and then for Northern Valley Grade School as a para and school secretary until her retirement in 2006.

Joanne was a member of the Almena Congregational Church and was an active member of the women’s fellowship.

Joanne dearly loved her family and friends. She enjoyed having them to her home for coffee and brownies. Christmas was her favorite holiday and she loved decorating for it.

She was preceded in death by her father Lloyd Moreland; mother Gladys Peters; brothers Richard “Dick” Moreland, William “Bill” Alexander, and Lyman Delimont; and sisters Loretta Groom and Marilyn Garrison.

Survivors include her husband Larry Miller of Almena; daughter Teresa Randolph and husband Len of Jennings; two grandchildren Sean Fritz and wife Tammy of Lincoln, Neb. and Janelle Tanking and husband AJ of Overland Park; and two great-grandchildren Jace and Brielle; along with many other relatives and friends.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 27 in the Logan Christian Church with Pastor Troy Buss officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Olliff-Boeve Memorial Chapel Facebook page.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Rooks County.
