Barbara Sue (Starbird) Grover

Barbara Sue (Starbird) Grover, 74, St. Francis died Sunday, December 5, 2021, at St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, OK.   

She was born December 25, 1946, in Powell, WY to Frank “Bud” and Leona (Kelsey) Starbird.  As a young child, her family moved to Watsonville, CA where she graduated from Watsonville High School in 1965.  She attended Wayne’s School of Beauty before traveling to Germany, where she met the love of her life, Michael R. Grover.  They were united in marriage on January 19, 1969, in Leoti, KS and celebrated 52 years of marriage.  She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses before opening her own used book store in Colby in 1992.  Barbara was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, intricate thread crochet and collecting teapots and pitchers.   She loved learning, especially words and vocabulary, doing word puzzles and reading the bible. 

Survivors include her husband, Michael, of St Francis, daughters:  Trinity Atherton (Darrin) of Hays and Leanna Hoeme (Isac) of Scott City and son:  Shannon Grover (Raquel) of St Francis, grandchildren: Ethan Atherton and Gabriel Atherton, of Hays, Samantha Hoeme of Scott City, Randee Grover of Denver, CO and Ryan Grover of St Francis, brother:  Charles “Chuck” Starbird of Reno, NV and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers:  Donald Starbird and Rodney Starbird and her sister, Patricia (Starbird) Atkins.    

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church in St Francis.  Inurnment will take place at a later date.  The family suggests memorials to Cheyenne County Hospital in her name.
