Viola Marie Dechant, 88, Hays, died Thursday, November 11, 2021, at HaysMed.

She was born May 28, 1933, in Pfeifer, 
the daughter of Raymond and Helen (Basgall) Holzmeister.&nbsp; In 1951, she 
graduated from Victoria High School.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to 
Herbert P. Dechant on January 5, 1959 in Wichita, and they celebrated 62
 years of marriage.&nbsp; She was homemaker and a member of St. Joseph 
Catholic Church.&nbsp; Viola enjoyed babysitting, visiting with friends and 
family, sewing, cooking, baking, and making homemade noodles.&nbsp; Thursday 
was her baking day, baking pies and various cookies, which she kept in a
 Tupperware container ready for her family to enjoy.

Survivors include her husband Herbert 
of Hays, three sons: Raymond Dechant and wife Lori of Dodge City, Brian 
Dechant of Hays, and Eric Dechant of Hays, two daughters: Joan Freeman 
and husband Sam of Ellinwood and Myra Kreutzer of Hays, one sister: 
Elsie Suppes of LaCrosse, 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson: Curtis Jacob Dechant.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Monday, November 15, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with
 Fr. Richard Daise officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Kansas 
Veterans’ Cemetery, WaKeeney.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 
8:00 on Sunday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Monday, all at Hays 
Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A vigil service and rosary will be at 
6:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.&nbsp;

E. Darlene Ackerman, 89, of Colby, died Monday, November 8, 2021, at 
Prairie Senior Living Complex, in Colby. She was born July 1, 1932, in 
Beardsley, KS, to Loyd and Letha (Yost) Porter. 

She spent her early 
years in Beardsley and then, while still in grade school, moved to St. 
Francis, KS. There she met Bob Ackerman and after graduating high 
school, they were married on February 4, 1951. In 1955 they moved to 
Colby, KS and remained there until 1963, when the family moved to 
Albuquerque, NM. After 10 years in New Mexico, they moved back to Colby.
 After a serious illness in the 1970’s and regaining her health, in 
1980, Darlene and her husband made the decision to start a health food 
business and the Health Cottage, in Colby, was opened. She ran it until 
1995, when her husband died, and then continued operating the business 
with her daughter Kerri, until her retirement. In 1975 Darlene became a 
Christian and attended the Berean Fundamental Church, in Colby. Until 
her death, helping and caring for her family was the most important 
thing in her life. 
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert Ackerman; brother Darwin Porter and sister-in-law Betty Ackerman. 
She is survived by her children, Scott (Patricia) Ackerman, Shawn 
(Jodie) Ackerman and Kerri (Mark) Blatt; brother Ron (Jackie) Porter;

Preliminary Note:
 It really doesn’t matter to me what is published or said about me as 
long the Lord is praised for giving me Salvation. First and foremost, 
Jesus is to be thanked and praised for living among us for about 30 
years and then suffering terribly – probably the worst – and what we 
perhaps can’t imagine – was bearing the shamefulness and ugliness of our
 sins before the Faith. Sins of hurting others, belittling others, 
lording it over others, neglecting others – perhaps much, much worse 
than the common sexual sins or immorality. The Faith, Too, is to be 
greatly praised for sending his son to us. The Holy Spirit – The Spirit 
of the Father the Song – too, is greatly to be praised for being in us 
and directing our thoughts and actions.

Because
 there may be “pressure” on family, however, to publish a somewhat 
detailed obituary, I will write the following. It might prevent some 
time-consuming “research/questioning” – and in a limited time.

Raymond
 Henry Pachta was born July 6, 1932, on a farm east of Belleville, 
Kansas. He made his heavenly journey home on Thursday, November 11, 
2021.&nbsp; His parents were Vincent J. Pachta and Magdalina (Baxa) Pachta. 
He was born shortly after the tornado that took down the Washington, 
Kansas courthouse. Because telephone lines were down, Grandma (Mary) 
Pachta tied and cut the umbilical cord before the doctor arrived.

Raymond was the 5th of nine children: Marcella, Irene, Joseph, Edward, Bernadine, Rita, Vincent, Paul, and John. 

Raymond
 graduated from Republican County grade schools, having attended Prairie
 Home District #86. He attended 2 years of high school in Belleville, 
Kansas. And then entered Conception Seminary, Conception, MO., 
graduating in 1950. 

Sent
 by the Catholic Diocese of Salina to Cincinnati, he attended St. 
Gregory’s and Mount St. Mary’s Seminaries, earning Bachelor and master’s
 degree in philosophy from the ATHENAEM of Ohio. During his final year, 
he was selected to be a student priest, being ordained July 21, 1957, in
 Middletown, OH. 

Raymond
 served at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Salina from 1958-1963. Then he 
served in Concordia &amp; St. Joseph in Cloud County, Kansas until 1971.
 From 1971-1982 he served the parishes in Delphos, Glasco, and 
Meredith.&nbsp; 

Wishing
 to “do the most good possible,” Raymond requested working in the field 
of education.&nbsp; Three summers were spent studying at Catholic University 
of America, Washington D.C., with supplemental course work from 
Marymount College, Kansas State University, and Kansas University, where
 he received certification in teaching, counseling, and administration. 
He taught and established the guidance program at Sacred Heart High 
School in Salina and then served as principal at Notre Dame High School 
in Concordia, Kansas.&nbsp; While serving the parishes of Delphos, Glasco, 
and Meredith, he also provided the needed guidance services at St. 
John’s High school in Beloit, St. Xavier’s High school in Junction City 
and Tipton High school in Tipton, Kansas. He also served on the Salina 
Diocesan school board and the Salina Diocesan Council. During these 
years he often flew his plane or rode his motorcycle to these and other 
various tasks.

In
 the early 80’s Raymond worked as a carpenter’s assistant and farm 
worker, and then as night and weekend supervisor at St Joseph’s 
Children’s Home in Oklahoma City, 1983-1984. He then worked for five 
years in production &amp; parts distribution for El Dorado Industries, 
in Minneapolis, Kansas 1984-1989.&nbsp; His last 15 years of employment 
(1989-2004) was with the State of Kansas as a Vocational Rehabilitation 
Counselor.

On
 February 11, 1984, Raymond was married to Deloris (Gawith) Bergez in 
Delphos, Kansas.&nbsp; They then made their home there. The daughters are 
Jackie Bergez, Rheta (Bergez) Scheib (Jim), Sherry Bergez &amp; Marc 
Steven Bergez (Molly).&nbsp; Grandchildren: Kevin McFee, Austin Scheib 
(Tiffany), Colby Scheib, Kathryn McFee Bowers (Patrick), Corbin Scheib, 
Marc Bergez Jr., Charles Bergez, Nick Bergez (April), and Kaitlyn 
Bergez. &nbsp;Great-grandchildren: 12 and Great-Great Grandchildren: 3.

Raymond
 served on the Delphos City Council in the early 90’s, has been active 
on the local and district level (hearing aid chairman (2004-2007) of the
 Lions Club and has been secretary treasure of the Delphos Museum for a 
number of years.&nbsp; He also served 4 years lay representative from the 
Delphos Methodist Church to the annual conference.&nbsp; He also served on 
the local church administration board.

Concluding
 note:&nbsp; The above may seem like bragging.&nbsp; Motivation, however, is hard,
 if not impossible, to analyze. In the last analysis, it is the Lord who
 knows.&nbsp; I feel that I always - at least, most of the time - wanted to 
be a “good boy.”&nbsp; There was probably pride involved in this. I liked the
 praise. When I first thought of wanting to be a priest, I was too 
embarrassed - or scared - to say anything about it.&nbsp; When I did tell 
Monsignor Brown, he immediately made arrangements for me to go to the 
seminary from then on, it was “the thing I was supposed to do.”&nbsp; 
Homesickness or attractiveness to girls was just not allowed to be 
considered by me.&nbsp; At least when at home during vacations, I’m sure, 
being a seminarian was a matter of pride.&nbsp; I was looked up to and 
admired.

As
 a seminarian and at least in the earlier years as a priest my aim was 
to be “a good priest.”&nbsp; Though I took great pride in the priesthood and 
used it to take advantage of people, impose on them, and Lord it over 
them. I think I hurt many people and in some cases was not a person of 
character, like in some automobile deals.&nbsp; Car dealers treated priests 
very generously. It was easy to take advantage of them.&nbsp;

Even
 in regard to my resignation from the clergy and denomination, though 
the basic reasons were theological - and I have not changed my 
convictions - I’m not so sure pride wasn’t involved to a considerable 
extent - and may still be.&nbsp; I regret, though, my convictions remain the 
same today, as then, in regard to Jesus, salvation, and the church.&nbsp;

-So, for whatever this is all worth - here it is. Probably just praising the Lord, Jesus, especially - is the best!

 Raymond H. Pachta

Richard “Dick” Renfro passed away on November 10, 
2021, at the age of 87.&nbsp; Dick was born on October 6, 1934, in Spearville, 
Kansas, the son of Eugene and Bernice (Sams) Renfro.

He lived in Offerle, KS until 1943, then moved with his parents to 
Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; Dick graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1952.

After high school, he graduated from Kansas State University in 1956 
with a BA degree in business.&nbsp; He was a pitcher and letterman on the 
K-State baseball team, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity.&nbsp; 
He was also a 1974 graduate of The Stonier Graduate School of Banking at
 Rutgers University.

Upon graduation from Kansas State, Dick worked in the Finance 
Department at The Boeing Company in Wichita.&nbsp; It was during his tenure 
at Boeing that he met his bride, Toni, who became his wonderful wife of 
62 years, on a blind date set up by mutual friends on Halloween 1958.

In 1963, Dick joined the IBM Corporation as a marketing 
representative.&nbsp; During his tenure with IBM he achieved five 100% Sales 
Clubs.&nbsp; He and his family moved to Salina in 1967 to open a new IBM 
sales office to cover North Central and Northwest Kansas.

In 1971 Dick joined the National Bank of America as a 
vice-president.&nbsp; In 1978 he was elected to the NBA Board of Directors, 
and in 1979 was promoted to Executive Vice President.&nbsp; In 1986 he was 
elected to the position of President and CEO. &nbsp;

In 1993 UMB Financial Corporation purchased NBA and five other 
central Kansas banks and in 1994 those banks were merged into the 
National Bank of America (UMB-NBA) with Salina as its headquarters.&nbsp; 
Renfro was named President and CEO of the merged bank UMB-NBA.&nbsp; He 
retired from his active duties in 2001, but remained as a member of the 
UMB-NBA Board of Directors.

Dick led a balanced life, and he was very active in community affairs
 and organizations. He knew the value of community and humbly accepted 
volunteer leadership roles that have helped shape Salina and the region 
in many different levels and areas.&nbsp; Among his activities were: First 
Presbyterian Church— where he served as Elder, Deacon and Trustee, as 
well as devoted member of the choir. K-State Alumni Association where he
 proudly served as the National President, and on the Board of 
Directors. K-State Athletics, Intercollegiate Athletic Council serving 
as Alumni Representative for 6 years. Salina Area Chamber of Commerce 
serving as Chairman, and two terms on the Board of Directors. Salina 
Airport Authority where he served as Chairman and on the Board of 
Directors. Salina Country Club, where he served as President, and three 
terms on the Board of Directors. Farmers State Bank (McPherson) Board of
 Directors. Rolling Hills Zoo Board of Directors. Downtown Lions Club, 
served as President, and on the Board of Directors. Salina Baseball 
Enterprises serving on the Board of Directors for 17 years. Member of 
the Kansas Bankers Association, served on the Governing Council. And 
finally, Member of the Salina Gridiron Club. 
Dick was Co-chair of a 1990 task force to promote the funding of the 
merger of Kansas College of Technology and Kansas State University (now 
K-State Salina).&nbsp; Project passed by a 2-1 margin and at the time 
generated $5.3 million to assist in the merger.

In 1983, at the request of Jack Hartman, K-State basketball coach, 
Dick successfully organized an exhibition game between the USA 
Pan-American team (Hartman was coach) that included Michael Jordan and a
 group of NBA players. Nearly 7,000 fans attended on a hot July evening 
at the Bi-Centennial Center (aka Tony’s Pizza Event Center).

But most of all Dick was known for his welcoming nature and kind 
heart. He never met a stranger, and genuinely had an interest in others 
and graciously lent support whenever he had the opportunity.

Dick was a dedicated family man, filled with love who always was 
there to guide, mentor and nurture. He was very proud of his family and 
all their accomplishments.&nbsp; He was proud of Toni in her role in together
 raising their 3 sons, and her success as a financial advisor and 
community leader.&nbsp; He enjoyed coaching and watching his sons Craig, Cary
 and Clark in their early years and watching them succeed professionally
 in their adult lives and respective careers.&nbsp; He adored his bond with 
his favorite daughter in law Amber and her devotion to the family.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;

Dick and Toni waited patiently into their marriage to become 
grandparents, and they were blessed with the birth of their triplet 
granddaughters, Addison, Mallory and Claire in 2006. He was 
affectionately known as “Papa” to his granddaughters and their friends. 
He radiated with love and affection when doting about them to anyone 
that he met.&nbsp; Papa could be found in the front row of all their events, 
recognitions, and recitals with a beaming smile. Addison, Mallory and 
Claire have brought so much joy to him and Toni. He took great pride in 
seeing them grow into beautiful, talented and active young ladies.&nbsp; And 
lastly, grand-dogs Rafa and Seve’ have been such an integral and 
enjoyable part of the family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Bernice (Sams) Renfro, and his sisters Virginia Woodside and Delores Frost. 
Survivors include wife, Toni, sons Craig of Salina, KS, Cary of Topeka, 
KS and Clark (Amber) of Salina, KS, granddaughters Addison, Mallory and 
Claire, grand-dogs Rafa and Seve’, nephew Larry Frost, nieces Lannie 
Kern, Sharon Hill and Jackie Tullous.

A Funeral Service and Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m.

Department at The Boeing Company in Wichita.&nbsp; It was during his tenure 
at Boeing that he met his bride, Toni, who became his wonderful wife of 
62 years, on a blind date set up by mutual friends on Halloween 1958.In 1963, Dick joined the IBM Corporation as a marketing 
representative.&nbsp; During his tenure with IBM he achieved five 100% Sales 
Clubs.&nbsp; He and his family moved to Salina in 1967 to open a new IBM 
sales office to cover North Central and Northwest Kansas.In 1971 Dick joined the National Bank of America as a 
vice-president.&nbsp; In 1978 he was elected to the NBA Board of Directors, 
and in 1979 was promoted to Executive Vice President.&nbsp; In 1986 he was

Richard 'Dick' Renfro

Roger Duane Stremel, 83, died November 10 at his home. He was born April 13, 1938, in Hutchinson, KS to Jerome F. and Maxine (Griffin) Stremel.

Roger graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1956. He earned his associate's degree from Hutchinson Community College in 1958 and then earned a bachelor's degree from Emporia State Teachers College in 1962. Roger married Janis Libby on February 28, 1959, in Hutchinson. He began his 38-year teaching and coaching career at Ellinwood High School where he taught math and coached football and track. He also attended Colorado State University and earned his master's degree, attending on a National Science Grant.

Roger loved the outdoors and spent many years hunting, fishing and playing golf. With his wife Jan of 62 years, they traveled the world for over 30 years taking 93 trips to six continents, 35 countries, all 50 states, and all 30 MLB ballparks where they loved to spend time with travel companions they met over the years. Roger served on the Ellinwood City Council, Ellinwood Library Board, and the election board. Roger was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1187 and Grove Park Golf Club. He was a devoted husband, a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He was preceded in death by daughter Tami in 2001, his parents, and brothers Richard and Jerome Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Janis; three sons, Scott and Julie Stremel of Wichita, Dan and JoEllen Stremel of Dodge City, and Doug Stremel and wife Eliza Darmon of Lawrence; nine grandchildren, Meghan (Matt) Edmunds, Josslyn (Jason) Miller, Alec Stremel, Jenna (Carson) Watt, Zakary Stremel, Connor (Sara) Stremel, Jared (Taylor) Stremel, Ryan Stremel, and Lauren Stremel; two step-granddaughters, Tess Nichols and Maeve Nichols; and nine great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Sadie and Hudson Miller; Libby, Kenzie and Charlie Watt, and Wesley, Emerson and Wyatt Edmunds with one more on the way; brother Robert (Lexie) of Denver; and his sisters, Sharon (Norman) Utz of Houston, and Linda (James) Fleming of Nickerson; sister-in-law Suzan Stremel of Kirksville, MO.

The vigil will be Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 15 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Bishop Ronald M. Gilmore, Rev. Doris “Ricki” Margreiter Garey, 94, passed away October 26, 2021.

Doris was born to Jacob and Hulda (Remus) Margreiter on August 30, 1927, at Cawker City, Kansas.  After graduating in 1945 from Cawker City High School, Doris enrolled in Colorado Women’s College in Denver, CO and then transferred to the University of Kansas her junior year.  She attended a summer semester at Mexico City University and then graduated from KU.

Surviving family include: daughter, Ann Garey of Downs, and daughter, Susan Grayson and husband, Cabell of Washington DC; grandsons, Paul and wife, Maddy Grayson and Bill and wife, Emily Grayson, all of Washington DC; great grandchildren, Cabell, Violet, and Bob, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, daughter, Janis, her parents, brother, Mark and sisters, Christine and Ruth

Doris and Paul enjoyed traveling (including a trip to Egypt) and golfing.  Doris was an avid reader and enjoyed many clubs and organizations that she participated during her adult life.

Ray Chadwell

Stanley Wancura was born September 16, 1940, to Willie and Clara Wancura
 in Atwood, Kansas. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on 
November 8, 2021, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, at the age of 81. 
In his younger years, he lived on the family farm near Ludell where he 
worked hard helping his dad with daily farm tasks. He graduated from 
Atwood High School in 1958 and shortly after, proposed to the love of 
his life at the Atwood Dime Store. Stan and Verda Headrick married at 
the Federated Church in McDonald on December 28,1958. 
Stanley worked at the Ludell elevator, Rawlins County Road &amp; Bridge,
 Tubbs and Bush Ford in Atwood and later Tubbs and Sons Ford in Colby, 
Unruh Auto, and UPS (one of the first drivers hired in the state of 
Kansas), until he and Verda opened their NAPA store in 1976. He was a 
member of the First Christian Church in Colby and belonged to the Colby 
Chamber of Commerce. 
Over the years, they enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Canada, 
California, and Alaska. Along with traveling for family events, they 
loved trout fishing, hunting, and camping together. For their 50th 
anniversary, Stan and Verda enjoyed an Alaskan cruise with their four 
children. Stan and Verda enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. 
They were blessed with four children, Deanna Krannawitter, Debbie Moos 
(companion Todd Miller), Tim (fiance Angie Johnson) Wancura and Dana 
(David) Batt; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica, Aimee, Amanda, JC, 
Jonathan, Austin, Anna, and Paul David; sixteen precious 
great-grandchildren, and two precious great-great-grandchildren. Other 
survivors include sisters, Gertie (Ted) Kastens, Charlene (Jack) 
Shelton, and Cindy (Kevan) Trenkle, and many nieces, nephews, and 
cousins. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law 
Dorothy Headrick; son-in-law Mark Krannawitter; sister-in-law Valyne 
Dirks, and great-granddaughter Tesla McLaughlin. 
Stan proved every day that working hard included sacrifice and 
throughout the years showed those around him the quality of having a 
strong work ethic. Stan worked the hardest at the end of his life by 
making the ultimate choice to join those who passed before him to walk 
alongside Jesus in the gardens of Heaven. 
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday, November 12, 2021, at Baalmann 
Mortuary, Colby. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 
13 at the mortuary with burial in Beulah Cemetery, Colby. Per Stanley’s

Stanley Wancura

Michael J. Anschutz passed away on November 9, 2021, at the Ellsworth 
County Medical Center in Ellsworth, KS at the age of 52. He was born on 
July 8, 1969; and was adopted to Donald “Mert” and Loyola (Peterka) 
Anschutz in Ellsworth.
 Michael grew up in Wilson, KS and graduated from Wilson High School 
in 1987. He then attended NCK Technical College in Beloit, KS for 2 
years. He moved back home and worked for Victor Brothers Auctions for 
many years. He also spent many years showing cattle through the American
 Milking Shorthorn Society where he was rewarded the Past Dual-Purpose 
Breeder of the Year in 1998. He could always be found at the Kansas 
State Fair and many other state fairs, where he showed his shorthorns. 
He also salvaged metal and iron.
 Michael was a friend to many. He enjoyed helping the children at 4-H
 and was asked to become an honorary member for all his years of service
 to them. He loved playing cards with his father late into the night and
 watching the Chiefs and KU on television. He was known for his sharp 
memory as he could remember dates like no other.
 Michael will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but the 
celebration of his life and memories will never be forgotten. For to 
each one of us who had the privilege of knowing him, he leaves a legacy 
of true kindness, deep caring, and devoted love.

County Medical Center in Ellsworth, KS at the age of 52. He was born on 
July 8, 1969; and was adopted to Donald “Mert” and Loyola (Peterka) 
Anschutz in Ellsworth.
 Michael grew up in Wilson, KS and graduated from Wilson High School 
in 1987. He then attended NCK Technical College in Beloit, KS for 2 
years. He moved back home and worked for Victor Brothers Auctions for 
many years. He also spent many years showing cattle through the American
 Milking Shorthorn Society where he was rewarded the Past Dual-Purpose

Martin Douglas Stites, (Doug to all who knew him) passed away on Saturday, November 6th, 2021.&nbsp;

Doug was born on March 30, 1948, in 
Hays, Kansas, to Lawrence and Hortense (Tiny) Stites.&nbsp;He graduated from 
Hill City High School then attended Fort Hays State University until he 
was called to serve his country in Vietnam where he was stationed at Nha
 Trang from 1969-1970. In 1976, he became a founding Broker of Farmland 
Auction and Realty in Hays, KS.&nbsp;

Doug enjoyed many hobbies such as golf,
 fishing, and wood working.&nbsp; One of his greatest joys was driving around
 town in his side-by-side visiting friends. Doug embraced the community.
 Not only did he enjoy meeting new people, but they became fast friends.
 He had a way of making all his friendships long lasting and meaningful.
 And for that, will truly be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Becky
 of 53 years, children, Greg M. Stites (Kristina) and Heather A. 
Pfannenstiel (Andy Mergen), two grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. 
He is also survived by his older brother Mark Stites (Theresa) and 
sister Trish Moore (Milt) along with several nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM

Doug Stites

Lafe D. “Dean” Poe passed away on November 6, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in
 Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 62. He was born on March 24, 1959, to 
Lafe D. Poe and Ruth A. (Swindler-Poe) Post in Pratt, KS. He was 
married to Elizabeth (Goff) Poe; they later divorced. They have three 
grown children: Christopher, Michael &amp; Britteny. 
 Dean attended schools in Gillette, WY and Stafford, KS. He was a 
welder by trade, just like his beloved father (with the same name). Dean
 last worked for Payton Machine &amp; Supply, Inc in Borger, TX. 
 Dean is survived by his sons, Christopher Poe and Michael Poe, both 
of Guthrie OK; daughter, Britteny Pace (Anthony Martinez) of Albuquerque
 NM; brothers, Thomas Hodges of St. John KS and Terry Hodges of Tenino 
WA; sisters, Cheryl Baldwin of Borger TX, Sandy Odle of Stafford KS, 
Tammy Poe of El Dorado KS and Angel Fasulo of Zurich KS; as well as five
 grandchildren, Arianna, Chance, Jace, Gabriella and Tiarra. 
 He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Harley Sherman and Emma
 Mae Poe and Jack and Margaret Swindler; parents, Lafe D. Poe, Ruth A. 
Post and step-father, Doyle L. Post. 
 One memory of Dean was all the kids goofing around in the yard at 
212 S. Buffalo in Stafford, KS. Just wrestling and playing as kids do 
until somebody got “hurt”, then the boys got yelled at to stop picking 
on the girls. That house no longer stands, but the memories will never 
fade. 
 As a youngster, Dean did not like to go to school. This started back
 in elementary school when Mom would drop Dean off at school and later 
the school would call her asking where Dean was. Mom would find Dean at 
the edge of the playground up in a tree hiding. This was Dean, ornery. 
This not wanting to go to school continued until his sophomore year when
 he could finally decide for himself school just wasn’t for him. 
 Dean took up bowling with Mom, mostly. His bowling ball is red, white &amp; blue. Totally Dean style. 
 When the family moved to Stafford KS, Dean had a black dog named 
Clyde and a Persian white cat named Bonnie. Again, totally Dean. In 
Dean’s later years, he had his beloved dog named Willow who was 17 years
 old when he buried him in his back yard. He also had several cats that 
he loved.
 Dean liked to watch country western shows on television. He liked to
 work on things or “tear stuff up” as some would say, but he always 
meant well. He loved his family as we did him. 
 A private family service will be held at a later date.

November 9, 2021, with her husband and daughters by her side, at 
Hillsboro Community Hospital, Hillsboro, Kansas. She was born in Haven, Kansas on October 17, 1940, a daughter of Helen (Nicklaus) and Joseph Riedl. Sharon attended St. Johns Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Hoisington High School, Hoisington, Kansas in 1958. 
 Through the years Sharon worked as a Account Clerk for the Larned 
Correctional Facility, Larned State Hospital and Larned Courthouse. She 
also worked as a Owner and Operator of Economy Hearing Aide Center, 
McPherson, Kansas for the last 13 years. Sharon was a member of Foursquare Church and the American Cancer Society. 
 She enjoyed camping, fishing, going south for the winter, cooking for 
her family and loved spending time with her friends and family. 
 Sharon was a loving wife, mother, grandma and GGMa, who loved the Lord.
 Her greatest joy was knowing her family also loved the Lord! 
Sharon Kay Riedl was united in marriage to Brett Sohl on March 4, 1983 
in Larned, Kansas. The couple established their first home together in 
Larned. She is survived by her husband Brett Sohl, of 
McPherson, Kansas; her children, David Huddleston and his wife Sue, of 
Elk City, Oklahoma, Kerri Barnard and her husband John, of Hays, Kansas,&nbsp; and Kristi Campbell and her husband Rick, of Americus, Kansas; her 
brothers Martin Riedl and his wife Vicki and Bert Riedl and his wife 
Loretta. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Tiffany 
VandeKopple(Jon), Jason Fenwick(Amanda), Tyson Couchman(Kathy), Nathan 
Campbell, Cody Campbell and Caitlin Njogu and 8 great grandchildren. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents.

On June 15, 1929, Berta Lou Bleam was born to Ralph &amp; Dorothy 
(Heller) McFarland. &nbsp;Older brother Arvid was proud of his baby sister. 
&nbsp;Berta passed away on November 5, 2021, at Parkview Care Center at the 
age of 92.

As a child she enjoyed playing with her dolls &amp; playhouses. 
&nbsp;Sometimes Arvid would talk her into playing "Cowboys &amp; Indians" or 
"Cops &amp; Robbers." &nbsp;Berta attended Columbia Grade School, a rural one
 room school. &nbsp;The school was one mile from home, &amp; she walked it 
every day, weather permitting. &nbsp;She graduated from Glen Elder High 
School in 1947. &nbsp;She took the Normal Training Course &amp;&nbsp;started 
teaching in the fall of 1947. &nbsp;She taught for 3 years. During this 
time, she met &amp; dated Carl Zemke. &nbsp;They married on June 9, 1951. 
&nbsp;They lived on a farm 5 miles north of Hunter, Kansas. &nbsp;Carl died July 
1, 1964, at the age of 35.

That fall, Berta enrolled in Brown Mackie Business School in Salina. 
&nbsp;After she completed her course work, she worked at the Beloit Hospital 
in the Medical Records Department. &nbsp;Later, she went to work for Dr. A. 
L. Scherer in Osborne. &nbsp;It was there she met Robert "Bob" Bleam. &nbsp;They 
were married May 12, 1968.

Berta &amp; Bob lived in Osborne. &nbsp;Berta continued working &amp; Bob 
drove back &amp; forth to the farm daily. &nbsp;After Dr. Scherer moved from 
Osborne Berta worked briefly at Parkview Care Center &amp; then the 
Osborne County Register of Deeds office. &nbsp;She retired January 1, 1995. 
&nbsp;Beloved husband Bob passed away November 3, 2015.

Berta was a member of the Osborne United Methodist Church &amp; the Church's Evening Circle.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands Carl Zemke &amp; 
Bob Bleam; brother &amp; sister-in-law Arvid &amp; Geneva McFarland; 
sister-in-law &amp; husband Margaret &amp; Roy Hanson, &amp; nephew 
Larry McFarland.

Survivors include nieces &amp; nephews, great nieces &amp; great nephews &amp; many close friends.

Hanford 'Hank' Lloyd Payne

Guy Deal Bolen, 89, died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS after being in critical care following a fall.

He was born April 27, 1932, at a farm in southeast Wallace County, the son of Lester and Georgia (Huffman) Bolen. He attended and graduated from Prairie View (Kahle) Grade School. He then attended Wallace County Community High School for a short period of time. Guy held numerous jobs in the area eventually settling on the job he started at age 10, farming. Guy was known as a master welder and was always looking for ways to fix things. &nbsp;

On June 8, 1952, Guy and Marlene J. Barton were married. They lived in the Harrison Flats area of Wallace County all of their married life except for nine months when they lived in Denver CO.&nbsp;

Guy was a lifelong member of the Dinas Community Church and was chairman of the building committee when the new Dinas church was built. At the time of his death, he was still taking care of the building. He was part of the reenactment with the Fort Wallace 7th Calvary Unit. He served as a board member of the Farm Home Administration. Guy and Marlene helped open up the American Agriculture Movement office in Wallace County and traveled to Washington D.C. to help fight for parity. Other memberships included: NRA, Farm Bureau, and Wallace County Cruisers. He lived his life as a strong Christian. Although he could not serve in the military due to a childhood knee injury, he supported the military troops and was always proud of his country.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Emery and Pauline Barton, his sisters: Betty Bender and husband Edward, Bonnie Knouse Barton and husbands; Delmar Knouse and Tom Barton, brothers: Keith Bolen and wife Frances, and Bill Bolen and his son-in-law and farming partner, Gary Cox.&nbsp;

Surviving family includes his wife of 69½ years, Marlene Joy (Barton) Bolen. Son Bryan (Edna) Bolen of Sharon Springs, KS and their children; Bryan Daniel Bolen, Kimberly (Craig) Hoisington, Melissa (Todd) Thompson, Miranda (Lance) Cloyd, and Brandon Bolen. Son Bruce (Emily) Bolen of Sharon Springs, KS and their children; Lester (Kinsey) Bolen and Tamela (Jed) Lake. Daughter Belinda Cox, Wallace KS and sons: Ryan (Heidi) Cox, Braden (Kaylee) Cox, and Joel Cox. Nineteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. One sister, Marie and her husband Gary Walker of Marysville TN and one sister-in-law, Marlene C. Bolen of Sharon Springs and many nephews and nieces.&nbsp;

Marlene was the love of his life. They loved having family and friends in their home on the farm. His favorite hobbies included restoring old vehicles, tractors, and anything antique. He loved to give children rides on whatever he restored. He loved Christian and Country Western music. He also loved fishing and camping. Guy and Marlene loved spending time with long time friends Ted and Ada Turley and family. Ted preceded Guy in death.&nbsp;

Guy was very proud of the family farm, and he and Marlene were the 4th generation caretakers of this section of God’s earth. His pride and joy was the 100 plus year old barn that is the focal point of many pictures. They were very pleased when daughter Belinda and her husband Gary became the 5th generation and grandson Braden and his wife and children became the 6th &amp; 7th generations. He will be missed by everyone, but is now walking with Christ on two good legs and maybe even riding a bike!

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 10:30 AM MT at the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church with Reverend Paul McNall and Pastor Galen Crippen officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow in the Dinas Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM MT at Koons-Russell Funeral Home in Sharon Springs.

 </figure>Guy Deal Bolen, 89, died Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS after being in critical care following a fall.He was born April 27, 1932, at a farm in southeast Wallace County, the son of Lester and Georgia (Huffman) Bolen. He attended and graduated from Prairie View (Kahle) Grade School. He then attended Wallace County Community High School for a short period of time. Guy held numerous jobs in the area eventually settling on the job he started at age 10, farming. Guy was known as a master welder and was always looking for ways to fix things. &nbsp;On June 8, 1952, Guy and Marlene J. Barton were married. They lived in the Harrison Flats area of Wallace County all of their married life except for nine months when they lived in Denver CO.&nbsp;Guy was a lifelong member of the Dinas Community Church and was chairman of the building committee when the new Dinas church was built. At the time of his death, he was still taking care of the building. He was part of the reenactment with the Fort Wallace 7th Calvary Unit. He served as a board member of the Farm Home Administration. Guy and Marlene helped open up the American Agriculture Movement office in Wallace County and traveled to Washington D.C. to help fight for parity. Other memberships included: NRA, Farm Bureau, and Wallace County Cruisers. He lived his life as a strong Christian. Although he could not serve in the military due to a childhood knee injury, he supported the military troops and was always proud of his country.Preceding him in death were his parents, his father and mother-in-law, Emery and Pauline Barton, his sisters: Betty Bender and husband Edward, Bonnie Knouse Barton and husbands; Delmar Knouse and Tom Barton, brothers: Keith Bolen and wife Frances, and Bill Bolen and his son-in-law and farming partner, Gary Cox.&nbsp;Surviving family includes his wife of 69½ years, Marlene Joy (Barton) Bolen. Jean K. Yanda, age 66, of Ellis, Kansas, passed away Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, and VFW Auxiliary all of Ellis. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, arts and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Joseph of Ellis; a son, Dean Yanda of Ellis and daughter-in-law Emily Yanda of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Jessica Smith and husband Jon of Baltimore and Amanda Cross and husband Casey of Hays; as well as two grandchildren, Ayden, and Ella Yanda. Jean K. Yanda

Stanley Wancura was born September 16, 1940, to Willie and Clara Wancura
 in Atwood, Kansas. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family on 
November 8, 2021, at Citizens Medical Center in Colby, at the age of 81. 
In his younger years, he lived on the family farm near Ludell where he 
worked hard helping his dad with daily farm tasks. He graduated from 
Atwood High School in 1958 and shortly after, proposed to the love of 
his life at the Atwood Dime Store. Stan and Verda Headrick married at 
the Federated Church in McDonald on December 28,1958. 
Stanley worked at the Ludell elevator, Rawlins County Road &amp; Bridge,
 Tubbs and Bush Ford in Atwood and later Tubbs and Sons Ford in Colby, 
Unruh Auto, and UPS (one of the first drivers hired in the state of 
Kansas), until he and Verda opened their NAPA store in 1976. He was a 
member of the First Christian Church in Colby and belonged to the Colby 
Chamber of Commerce. 
Over the years, they enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Canada, 
California, and Alaska. Along with traveling for family events, they 
loved trout fishing, hunting, and camping together. For their 50th 
anniversary, Stan and Verda enjoyed an Alaskan cruise with their four 
children. Stan and Verda enjoyed 63 years of marriage together. 
They were blessed with four children, Deanna Krannawitter, Debbie Moos 
(companion Todd Miller), Tim (fiance Angie Johnson) Wancura and Dana 
(David) Batt; nine grandchildren, Sarah, Jessica, Aimee, Amanda, JC, 
Jonathan, Austin, Anna, and Paul David; sixteen precious 
great-grandchildren, and two precious great-great-grandchildren. Other 
survivors include sisters, Gertie (Ted) Kastens, Charlene (Jack) 
Shelton, and Cindy (Kevan) Trenkle, and many nieces, nephews, and 
cousins. Stan was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law 
Dorothy Headrick; son-in-law Mark Krannawitter; sister-in-law Valyne 
Dirks, and great-granddaughter Tesla McLaughlin. 
Stan proved every day that working hard included sacrifice and 
throughout the years showed those around him the quality of having a 
strong work ethic. Stan worked the hardest at the end of his life by 
making the ultimate choice to join those who passed before him to walk 
alongside Jesus in the gardens of Heaven. 
Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday, November 12, 2021, at Baalmann 
Mortuary, Colby. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November

Kayla Lynn Campbell

It is with deep sorrow and much love that the family mourns the passing 
of Joseph Robert LeClair of Norton, Kansas on November 7, 2021 at the 
age of 27.
 Joseph was born on November 18, 1993 at 9:35 pm at the Good 
Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska to Starla and Jeff LeClair. He 
was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Edmond Ks.
 Joseph attended grade school at Eisenhower Elementary in Norton, 
Kansas. He attended Junior High in Norton and participated in football, 
basketball and ran hurdles and long jumped in track. Joseph attended 
High School in Norton for his Freshman, Sophomore and Senior year 
participating in basketball and track and field. Joseph's junior year he
 lived in Sublette Kansas attending Sublette HS and played basketball. 
His family remembers that during a game in Sublette he broke his nose 
and ended up in the ER. This year was also the days Joseph sported the 
Mohawk. Joseph graduated from high school in 2012. Joseph attended for a
 short time Fort Hays State University and NCKTC in Hays majoring in 
business.
 Joseph was currently employed by Tim and Dave Sprigg on Bullseye 
Ranch and D&amp;C Cattle Company in Norton, KS. He spent years prior 
working for his Grandpa Joe on Sproul Farms in Edmond, KS.
 Joseph enjoyed this past summer on the lake fishing in his boat. He 
was a lover of all animals. He was in the process having a friend help 
him break his horse Daisy. He also had Dolly who was a dog he rescued, 
that lives at his grandparents farm in Edmond Kansas.
 He loved spending time with family and was an excellent model for 
his Neice Natalee, so she could practice her makeup skills. Joseph had a
 knack to take any situation and make you laugh or smile. He lived with a
 big heart and was always willing to help anybody in their time of need.
 Joseph helped his Grandpa Joe tend to the Edmond Cemetery. He also 
helped them garden and plant the flower beds at their farm.
 His cousin Jeremy stated that he was the tallest member of our family.
 He will be dearly missed by his friends at Freedom of Choice in Norton Kansas.
 He will be lovingly remembered by his parents Starla LeClair of

Joseph Robert LeClair

Larry Leon Guinn, 83, passed away on Nov. 5, 2021, in Aurora, CO. He was
 born on Sept. 25, 1938, in Oberlin, KS to Bruce and Dorthea (Bowser) 
Guinn.
 Larry grew up in Oberlin and graduated from DCHS in 1956. He was on
 the Oberlin football team that went undefeated in 1955. He was also the
 state wrestling champion his senior year. After high school he went to 
Fort Hays State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Education
 in 1962. He then moved to Denver, CO area where he was a PE teacher 
and coached both wrestling and football for 30 years. In 1967 he 
married Barbara James and to that union they had a son, Scott. Larry 
had the hobby of buying old cars, fixing them up and trading for 
something else. He also loved watching and talking about his favorite 
sports teams.
 Larry is survived by wife, Violet Guinn of Aurora, CO; son; Scott 
(Brook) Guinn of Anderson, SC; grandsons; Skyler and Alex; brother; Gary
 (Marjorie) Guinn of Oberlin, KS, he is also survived by several nieces 
and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Bruce

 </figure>Larry Leon Guinn, 83, passed away on Nov. 5, 2021, in Aurora, CO. He was
 born on Sept. 25, 1938, in Oberlin, KS to Bruce and Dorthea (Bowser) 
Guinn.
 Larry grew up in Oberlin and graduated from DCHS in 1956. He was on
 the Oberlin football team that went undefeated in 1955. He was also the
 state wrestling champion his senior year. After high school he went to 
Fort Hays State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Education
 in 1962. He then moved to Denver, CO area where he was a PE teacher 
and coached both wrestling and football for 30 years. In 1967 he 
married Barbara James and to that union they had a son, Scott. Larry 
had the hobby of buying old cars, fixing them up and trading for 
something else. He also loved watching and talking about his favorite 
sports teams.
 Larry is survived by wife, Violet Guinn of Aurora, CO; son; Scott 
(Brook) Guinn of Anderson, SC; grandsons; Skyler and Alex; brother; Gary
 (Marjorie) Guinn of Oberlin, KS, he is also survived by several nieces 
and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Bruce

Larry Leon Guinn

John Wayne Akard, 80, passed away November 6, 2021, at his home in 
Great Bend. He was born on March 2, 1941, at Delta County, Texas, to 
Wayne &amp; Daisy (Simpson) Akard. He married Linda Mudgett on December 
27, 1968, at Mesquite, Tex.

A resident of Great Bend for the last 9 years, John was formerly of 
Arthur City, Tex. and Foley, Mo. He was a Pastor for Bible Holiness 
Church. He loved performing God's work and his children.

Survivors include, his wife, Linda Akard of the home; a son, David 
Akard of Great Bend; two daughters, Christy Romero and husband Aaron of 
Cimarron, and Angela Gordon and husband Curtis of Wichita; a brother, 
Jerry Akard of Paris, Tex.; a sister, Dot Dankowski and husband Herb of 
Paris, Tex.; five grandchildren, Erica McEnulty, Caleb Romero, Travis 
Gordon, Corey Gordon, and Eric Gordon; and one great grandson, Grayson 
Forrest. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jessie 
Cockrum, Jean Hambright, and Greta Easley; and a sister in law, Anna 
Akard.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Thursday, 
November 11, 2021, at Bryant Funeral Home, with service at 2:30 p.m., 
Thursday, November 11, 2021, with Pastor Curtis Gordon officiating. 
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Great Bend. Memorials have
 been designated to Great Bend Bible Holiness Church, in care of Bryant 
Funeral Home.
