Julius Albert Henning, age 95, of Ransom, Kansas, passed away at Cedar Village LTC at Ness City, KS, on November 22, 2021.

Julius was the son of Anthony “Pop” aka “Antone” Henning and Emma 
(Mertens) Henning of Willowdale, Kansas.&nbsp; He was the oldest of 7 
children and was born on the family farm at Willowdale, Kansas, on 
August 25, 1926.

Julius married Melva “Rose” Weber of St. Leo, Kansas, on November 23,
 1948, at St. Leo, Kansas.&nbsp; To this union were born seven children:&nbsp; 
LeRoy, Donna, Kenny, Carol, Joe, Terry, and Jim.

Julius is survived by his children:&nbsp; Donna and husband Delbert 
Bollig, of WaKeeney, Kansas; Kenny and wife Traci of Hillsboro, Kansas; 
Carol Nemechek of WaKeeney, Kansas; Daughter-in-Law, Joby Henning of 
Ness City, Kansas, and Jim and wife Tami of Kingman, KS.&nbsp; He is also 
survived by 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grand-children; and 2 step 
grandchildren.&nbsp; Left to mourn are also his siblings Leonard Henning, 
Vera Henning (wife of Bob Henning), Joan Schwartz, Eugene “Gene” 
Henning, and DeeDee Elsen and husband Jerome.

Julius was preceded in death by his wife Rose on 03-26-2001, his 
infant son, LeRoy, on 05-13-48; his son, Joe, on 01-20-00., his son 
Terry on 07-14-13; his grandson, Jonathan Henning on 08-17-12; and his 
son-in-law Richard Nemechek on 11-13-2020.&nbsp; He was, also, preceded in 
death by his parents, Antone and Emma Henning; his brothers, Robert 
“Bob” Henning and Anthony “Junior” Henning, Jr.; his sisters-in-law 
Rosie Henning, Wanda Henning, and Barbara Henning; and his brother-in 
law Rheinard “Rhiney” Schwartz.

Julius was a devoted husband and father. His whole life was centered 
around his wife, Rose; their children; and their family farm.

Julius &amp; Rose moved to Ransom, Kansas, in May, 1948.&nbsp; Julius had 
to learn a whole new way of farming in Western Kansas.&nbsp; His plowing days
 from Eastern Kansas would not work at all in Trego County, Kansas.&nbsp; 
Julius and Rose were made out of some tough stuff, or they would not 
have survived the floods, the droughts, the hail, and the tornado that 
destroyed all but their house on 05-07-55.&nbsp; With two small children and a
 new baby on the way, they put their heads down and started in cleaning 
up the horrible destruction that the tornado left behind.&nbsp; Not only did 
they lose most of their farmstead and their car that day, but their 
wheat was also hailed out by that storm.&nbsp;

Julius was a lifetime farmer.&nbsp; It was in his blood.&nbsp; He loved tilling
 the soil and planting the crops.&nbsp; He was always out in the field 
digging in the drill furrow to see if the wheat was sprouting and going 
to make it out of the ground.&nbsp; He loved his cattle, too.&nbsp; He took extra 
good care of his livestock and was always making sure that they had 
plenty to eat and lots of water to drink.&nbsp; He was still feeding rounds 
bales to his cattle by himself until February 10, 2021, when a bad 
winter storm hit the area.

Julius was a man of great faith.&nbsp; He and Rose took their family to 
church every Sunday and every Holy Day.&nbsp; If something happened that the 
family could not attend church services, the family did not go anyplace 
else that day either.&nbsp; Julius was always very thankful for any blessings
 that God sent his way. In later years when he could no longer do a lot 
of walking, he would drive up to the St. Aloysius Church in Ransom and 
park his car in front of the church and say his prayers of Thanksgiving 
for his wheat check, his cattle check, etc.&nbsp; Julius was a Knights of 
Columbus Lifetime Member.&nbsp; He served on the St. Aloysius Church 
Committee for many years and also served as an usher for the church for 
many, many years.

Julius was an avid pheasant hunter, deer hunter, and fisherman. He 
and his Dad and brothers would rather fish and hunt than eat.&nbsp; Their 
family visits to see each other were always centered around their 
hunting and fishing activities.&nbsp; When they got tired and it was too dark
 to hunt or fish, they would play five-point pitch.&nbsp; They would play for
 a dime a game and a nickle a set, and the competition was fierce.&nbsp; 
Those were some “wild” and “noisy” games.&nbsp; When they were tired of 
playing pitch, they would all enjoy a good game of dominoes. All of 
these characteristics were passed down to the sons of these men.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Because of an abundance of concern caused by the Covid-19 Pandemic, a
 private family service will be held at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 
Ransom, Kansas, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Julius’s 
burial will be at the St. Aloysius Cemetery in Ransom.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to masses for 
Julius or donations to a worthy cause to be determined by the family at a
 later date.

Just three weeks ago, Bob Prideaux was doing one of his favorite things.
 He was going on an afternoon van ride home to Atwood. Bob and his wife 
Maxine had lived at Prairie Senior Living Complex in Colby, KS for the 
past five years. They liked living there and they and their children 
appreciated the caring staff at the facility. 
Bob had three places he always requested to go to when he got to come 
back home. The request at the top of his list was also the newest 
request, "I want to go see momma and say some prayers". That is of 
course his dear wife Maxine this was the day before she died a year ago 
on November 8, 2020. In 1948 Bob met the love of his life at a 
basketball game at Atwood High School. They figured they were a good 
match when they learned their birthdays were on the same day, June 9th, 
although Bob was a year older than Maxine. They were married on June 26,
 1951, at Sacred Heart Church in Atwood KS. Bob always said, for 69 
years, he married the "prettiest girl on the North divide". Their 
marriage was always a true partnership and they shared a mutual love for
 each other. Prior to getting married Bob was baptized and confirmed 
into the Catholic faith at St John Nepomucene Church, rural Atwood. Of 
this he always said it was the second-best thing he had ever done in his
 life, the first was marrying Maxine. Many years later he said he was 
sitting in the front row of St John Church, in his 4th degree Knights of
 Columbus attire, and he was just overcome with emotion on how a 
McDonald farm boy had done so well to have a beautiful wife, children, 
grandchildren and faith. 
Bob's second request was to go to the home he and Maxine had bought in 
1975 and had retired in. They lived there until moving into the nursing 
home in 2016. Their son bought it from them and Bob loved coming home to
 it. They had other homes throughout the years. Their first home as a 
married couple was on the Prideaux farm south of McDonald. Bob was 
always so proud of this farm and always remained "a farmer at heart". He
 loved to tell stories of farming all his life, running the John Deere D
 for his dad, harvesting with his brother-in-law Boyce Warning and 
sister Shirley using a thresher, or about the terrible winter of 1948-49
 trying to take care of the livestock with his brother-in-law Chuck 
Kenning and his sister Dottie. 
This farm was the home that he and Maxine brought their first babies 
home to. Denise Marie was born September 1, 1952, and Robert Randal 
"Randy" was born July 27, 1953. But times and circumstances changed, and
 the young family decided to move to Atwood where Bob took a job at 
Williams Brothers Supermarket. He would work at the store for the next 
25 years. During this time Bob and Maxine finished off their family with
 Donna Lee being welcomed November 25, 1958, and Roger Bryan being born 
on January 25, 1962. These were busy and happy times for Bob as he and 
his wife raised their children. Bob stayed busy after work helping 
prepare the new Sacred Heart School for his children to attend. Bob 
enjoyed many activities such as bowling, fishing, belonging to the 
Knights of Columbus and later joining the St. Pius X fourth degree 
Knights of Columbus. And finally taking up the sport of golf which Bob 
dearly enjoyed for many years. 
More change came when Bob decided to leave the grocery store and take a 
new position as maintenance man at the Rawlins County Hospital, a job he
 was well suited for as he was certainly a Mr. Fix it and a good 
carpenter. In the latter 1970's, Bob (with the counsel of his wife) 
purchased the Atwood Retail Liquor store, renaming it Prideaux Liquor 
Store. Bob worked hard remodeling and improving the store. He operated 
the business very successfully for many years before selling it to his 
son and daughter-in-law so he and Maxine could travel a little more and 
he could play golf a little more! By the early 1970's Bob earned a new 
title as grandpa. Bob had five grandsons he was always so very proud of,
 Troy, Ryan, Trevor, Tyrel and Logan. He loved to attend their 
activities and cheer them on, especially when they were playing or 
coaching football, a game he also enjoyed playing in high school. Bob 
also dearly loved and was so proud of his great grandchildren, Dylan, 
Madelyn, Matthew, Tucker, Toby, Ellaina and Ellie. 
The third place Bob always requested to go to when coming home to Atwood
 was to look at a two-story house located on the corner of Seventh and 
Blaine streets, “Right there, right there in that northwest upstairs 
corner room......that's where ol’ Bobbie was born” he would say. Robert 
Bryan Prideaux was born June 9, 1930, to Frederick Bryan and Violet 
(Morrison) Prideaux, at the home of his paternal grandparents William 
and Louise (Taylor, Prideaux) Meyers. He had two older sisters, Shirley 
and Dottie and two younger brothers Jack and Duane. He grew up in a 
house located in the north part of McDonald KS. Robert could tell so 
many stories about his wonderful childhood years. He attended McDonald 
grade school and high school graduating with the class of 1948. There 
were six girls and two boys in the class. He would recall running all 
around town playing the game "chalk mark" at night with all the town 
kids, going to his grandparents Meyers in Atwood and coming back to 
McDonald in their model T car and attending the McDonald Church of God 
with them. Staying with his Uncle Henry and Aunt Bertha Prideaux and his
 cousins in the summers always brought back wonderful memories. Three 
weeks ago, Bob looked at that two-story house on the corner where he was
 born and said, “I just cannot believe it has been 91 years ago". 
Robert Bryan Prideaux passed away Sunday November 21, 2021, at Prairie 
Senior Living Complex, Colby, KS, due to chronic kidney failure. His son
 Randy, daughter Donna Prideaux and Grandson Ryan Morrell were with him 
as he breathed his last just as the musical clock in his room played the
 2PM song. Bob was a positive and happy man; he could often be heard 
Auctioneering and Yooddling. His wife, children, grandchildren and great
 grandchildren were the apple of his eye. We love you and will miss you 
dad. 
Preceding Robert in death was his loving wife Maxine; his parents; son 
in law John Morrell; sister Dottie Kenning and brother-in-law Chuck 
Kenning; sister Shirley Warning and husband Boyce; brother Jack and wife
 Marquetta; brother-in-law Raymond Sabatka and brother-in-law Raphael

Logan (Emily) Prideaux; great grandchildren, Dylan Morrell, Madelyn 
Morrell and Matthew Morrell, Tucker and Toby Prideaux, and Elaina and 
Ellie Prideaux; brother Duane (Hazel) Prideaux and sister-in-law Agnes 
Sabatka.

Robert Bryan Prideaux

Edna M. (Soukup) Buehler, Wilson, KS, passed away on November 20, 2021, at the Ellsworth County Medical Center, Ellsworth, KS, at the age of 92. She was born on February 1, 1929, to Frank J. and Albina (Tymer) Soukup. 

She married Dale Buehler on June 15, 1949, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. They were blessed with four children: Gloria, Wes, Lori, and Bruce.

Edna graduated from Wilson High School with the class of 1947. She then attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina, KS, where she earned her teaching certificate. She taught at College Hill School south of Dorrance for two years. Later she worked at the Wilson Nursing Center as a certified nurse’s aide for 20 years. She was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Altar Society and VFW Auxiliary of Russell, KS.

Edna loved flowers and tending to her huge flower garden. She also loved cooking, baking, and quilting. But most of all, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.

Edna is survived by her children: Gloria Martin (Danny) of Joplin, MO, Wes Buehler (Brenda) of Wilson, Lori Pflughoeft (Craig) of McPherson, KS, and Bruce Buehler of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren: Shane Martin (Karla), Jordan Pflughoeft (Rebecca), Mark Pflughoeft (Katherine), and Michelle Staats (Steven); six great-grandchildren; brother, Victor Soukup (Sharen) of Garden City, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Albina; husband Dale; sisters Helen Mikulecky, Leona Scantland, and Irene Healey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wilson. Visitation will be on Tuesday 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home in Wilson.

Milan Spencer Masters, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.&nbsp; He was a lifelong resident and supporter of the Natoma community.&nbsp; He was born September 12, 1936, to Cecil and Lucille (McClellan) Masters on the homestead south of Natoma.&nbsp; He married his high school sweetheart, Dianne Mohler, on January 14, 1956.&nbsp; 

He began his life in business when he opened Masters Oil in 1959, starting when he was 18, in the community he was ever committed to.&nbsp; He expanded their business to Russell, Woodston and Alton.&nbsp; He also served as a USD 399 bus driver for several decades.&nbsp; He was a volunteer firefighter for 40 years.&nbsp; He was awarded the first Citizen of the Year by the Natoma Lions for his dedication to the community.&nbsp; He served on various church committees, the cemetery board, and the city council.&nbsp; His hard work included his love for the land where he farmed/ranched.

His big heart for the community was surpassed only by his love for his family.&nbsp; The marriage of Milan and Dianne was blessed with five children.&nbsp; He is survived by wife Dianne of 65 years, daughter Fonna Schwien of Russell, sons Delwin Masters (Corinne) of Natoma and Brian Masters (Luella) of Burlington, and daughter Coleen Dickinson (Kirk) of rural Natoma; sister Marina Gunn of Leawood, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.&nbsp; He was preceded in death by son Milan Eugene “Gene”, his parents Cecil and Lucille Masters, Gary Gunn (brother-in-law) and Stanley Schwien (son-in-law).&nbsp;

A celebration of Milan’s life will be held at the Natoma gymnasium at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, November 27, 2021.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. on Friday, November 26, 2021, at the Natoma United Methodist Church, with the family present to greet friends from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. Martha Grace Smith-Kennedy was born March 18, 1940, in Dodge City, Kansas to Floye and Joe Leonard. She departed this life on October 7, 2021, after a brief illness, in Woodland Park, Colorado.

Martha is survived by siblings Steve Rohrbaugh (Raylene), Linda Rohrbaugh Diede (Gary), Bill DeGarmo (Randi), Barbara DeGarmo Lohmeier (Patrick), and Laurita DeGarmo Moyer, (Jerry); grandchildren Chris Howard, Tucker Smith, and Korbin Smith; great-grandchildren Jennifer, Nevaeh, Graciee, Aaliyah, and Bentley Howard; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Martha was preceded in death by her mother and father, husbands Aldon (Ike) Smith and Harry Kennedy, children Todd Smith and Linda Smith Miller.

Martha loved her family dearly, as they did her. She never met a stranger; everyone was a friend. Martha was a loving, praying Christian and was truly blessed. She will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell, Kansas.&nbsp; Family will greet guests the day of the service at the mortuary.&nbsp; Cremation has been selected by the family and there will be no graveside service.&nbsp;

Rodney Nicholas Ruder, 70, of Austin, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2021, at the Heart Hospital of Austin, Texas. Rod was born March 26, 1951, in Hays, Kan., the son of Anthony and Armella (Denning) Ruder. He married Donna Morris on June 16, 1973. He was a 30-year manager of Kuhn’s Diamond Jewelers in Hays and most recently was an employee of the Internal Revenue Service in Austin. Rod was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph’s Military Academy in Hays and a 1974 graduate of Fort Hays State University. He was a four-year letterman in baseball at FHSU and was inducted into the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Rod also was a member of the Hays American Legion baseball program’s state championship teams in 1967 and 1968, and he was the coach of the Hays Legion team that won the state title in 1974. He also played for the Hays Larks, a collegiate summer baseball program.&nbsp; Rod was a loyal friend to many past and present Hays area residents. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Hays and a lifetime member of the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association. He also was a dedicated supporter of Catholic education in Hays. Rod and Donna received Thomas More Prep-Marian’s Alumni Service Award in 2000, and they were awarded the Jack Schramm Spirit Award in 2021 by the TMP-Marian Booster Club. John Kirkland, age 66, formerly of Johnson, Kansas, passed away Sunday, 
November 21, 2021, at his home in Chanute, Kansas. He was born April 5,
 1955, in Lamar, Colorado, the son of James and Loretta (Tague) 
Kirkland. 
John grew up in Springfield until the age of 13 when his family moved to
 Johnson. After graduating from Stanton County High School, he served 
in the United States Army. John returned to Johnson and worked for area
 farmers and also the Co-op in Manter until he became an over-the-road 
truck driver. He enjoyed taking care of the family pets, fishing, and 
bowling. John was a member of the VFW Post #11449. 
John married Janet Bradshaw on December 20, 2003, at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson. 
John is survived by his wife, Janet of their home; son, Kole Kirkland of
 Yuma, Arizona, daughter, Toni Kirkland of Leicester, New York, 
step-son, Lawrence Bradshaw of Hays, Kansas; brother, Loyd Kirkland of

John Kirkland

Gary Dewayne Barr, 86, died November 20, 2021, surrounded by his 
children and grandchildren, in his home, in Hoisington, Kansas. He was 
born March 3, 1935, at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Herbert G. &amp; 
Ethel Mae (Linenger) Barr. He proudly served in the United States Marine
 Corps from 1952 to 1954.&nbsp;

He was married to Joan Payne in 1954 in Dodge City, they later 
divorced. He then married Carolyn Mae Jones on May 30, 1979, at 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on January 31, 2021.

A long-time Hoisington resident, Gary worked for Rainbow Bread in 
route sales for 37 years, retiring in 1998. Gary was a member of New 
Life Baptist Church, the V.F.W. #3111 in Great Bend, the National 
Appaloosa Club, and was a horse enthusiast.

Survivors include; children, Steven (Debbie) Barr of Cimarron, David 
(Patricia) Barr of Wichita, Kimberly (Eugene) Schneweis of Hoisington,

He was preceded in death by 9 brothers and 2 sisters, and a grandson, Jase Richardson.

Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 3rd, 2021,
 at the New Life Baptist Church, Hoisington, with pastor Denny Lewis 
presiding. Interment will be 2:30 p.m. at the Kansas Veteran's Cemetery,
 Dodge City, Kansas.

children and grandchildren, in his home, in Hoisington, Kansas. He was 
born March 3, 1935, at Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Herbert G. &amp; 
Ethel Mae (Linenger) Barr. He proudly served in the United States Marine
 Corps from 1952 to 1954.&nbsp;He was married to Joan Payne in 1954 in Dodge City, they later 
divorced. He then married Carolyn Mae Jones on May 30, 1979, at 
Hoisington, Kansas.&nbsp; She preceded him in death on January 31, 2021.A long-time Hoisington resident, Gary worked for Rainbow Bread in 
route sales for 37 years, retiring in 1998. Gary was a member of New 
Life Baptist Church, the V.F.W. #3111 in Great Bend, the National 
Appaloosa Club, and was a horse enthusiast.Survivors include; children, Steven (Debbie) Barr of Cimarron, David

Gary Barr

Susan Skeie-Melvin,  63, passed away at her home in Estes Park, Colorado,
 on Thursday, November 18, 2021. 
Susan was born in Hays, Kansas, October 25, 1958.

&nbsp;Her parents were 
Randy and Verjean (Jacobs) Skeie.  She was raised in Boulder, Colorado, 
and remained in Colorado, throughout her life. Susan, also known to some
 as "Sky", graduated from Boulder, Colorado's Fairview High School in 
1977, where she was an accomplished athlete in Track and Basketball.  
She still holds the standing  Long Jump Record for Fairview High School 
at 18 feet, 2 inches, and received the title of "Most Athletic" her 
Senior year. 

 Susan attended the  University of Northern Colorado in 
Greeley, and also received a full athletic basketball scholarship to 
Colorado Mesa University, in Grand Junction, where she graduated with a 
degree in Recreational Therapy.   She married Loren W. Melvin on June 
26, 1982, in a beautiful mountain ceremony near Rollinsville, Colorado. 
After graduating from college, Susan worked for various organizations to
 help elders and those with special needs.  She brought her love of 
sports into those jobs by helping to create various events and 
activities to help them thrive. 

 Susan was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for 
the Lefthand Fire  Department , and  a Volunteer Bell Ringer for the 
Salvation Army during the Holidays. 
Susan was known for her love of family, her passion for trout fishing, 
and was a dedicated fan of the University of Colorado Buffs football 
team and the Denver Broncos.  In addition, she enjoyed spoiling her 
grandkids, fishing, camping, fishing, hiking, fishing, snowshoeing, 
fishing, cross country skiing, fishing...  She had an infectious smile 
and sense of humor, that quite often left people feeling like they'd 
done 100 sit ups from laughing so hard.  An example of her sense of 
humor is that when someone would trip or fall, she would ask them if 
they'd like to see how they looked doing that, and then would imitate 
the fall herself; causing hysterical  laughter. 


Susan is survived by her husband, best friend, and fishing buddy, Loren 
Melvin; her children, Brad (Amber) Melvin; Darin (Katie) Melvin; and 
grandchildren Aden, Grace and Colton Melvin; and Lily and Bear Melvin.  
She is also survived by her sister, Laurel Skeie (Edward) Huesers of 
Lyons, Colorado; her brother, Craig (Rhonda) Skeie of Pinetop, Arizona; 
nieces and nephews. 


She was preceded in death by her sister, Cindy Martinson and her parents
 Verjean (Jacobs) and Randy Skeie. 
Susan will be deeply missed by all who love and laughed with her.

Susan Skeie-Melvin

Mindy Sue Applegate, 59, passed away November 21, 2021, at the Satanta
 District Hospital with her family by her side. She was born on February
 14, 1962, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of David and Mary Lee (Powell) 
Harris.

Mindy spent her childhood in Protection, graduating from Protection 
High School in 1980. She then attended St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge 
City, where she played basketball. Mindy graduated with a Bachelor of 
Arts degree in English education in 1984. After graduation, she took a 
job with Arrowhead West in Dodge City. In 1987, Mindy made the move to 
Montezuma where she taught seventh and eighth grade English and junior 
high physical education. Since athletics were a part of her life as 
well, she gladly jumped into coaching junior high girls volleyball, 
basketball, and track. Mindy also received a Master of Arts degree from 
Fort Hays State University in 1995.

On July 2, 1988, Mindy was united in marriage to Mark Applegate. They
 made their home in Montezuma, raising two sons, Gabe and Eli. South 
Gray High School was formed, and Mindy became the high school English 
teacher and school improvement coordinator. When the opportunity arose 
in 2001, Mindy made the move to Southwest Plains Regional Service Center
 in Sublette as an educational consultant. Mindy never stopped learning 
nor leading. She was passionate about sharing her knowledge, leadership,
 and skills with others. Mindy also served as an outreach educator for 
Dodge City Community College for teaching Public Speaking and English 
Comp. Mindy cherished her time with family and friends. Whether 
keeping the score book or cheering in the stands, Mindy was considered 
the “Basketball Mom” for her sons and many other athletes. For over 30 
years she served as Mark’s assistant not only in life but also on the 
sidelines. Grandsons, Andrew and Declan also found a special place in 
her heart.

She is survived by her husband Mark of Montezuma; two sons, Gabriel 
Applegate of Lawrence and Eli Applegate and wife Brooke of Dodge City; 
two grandsons, Andrew and Declan Applegate; siblings, Marcie Charles and
 husband Marc of Dodge City, and Mitchel Harris and wife Judy of 
Ingalls, many nieces and nephews, a host of friends and numerous 
students. Mindy is preceded in death by her parents and a niece Megan 
Charles Kramer.

Funeral service will be held at South Gray High School Gymnasium, 
Montezuma, on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 10:30 AM with Mr. Jeff 
Hiers presiding. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Montezuma. 
Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Montezuma on Friday, 
November 26, 2021 from noon to 8:00 PM. with the family present from 5-7

Carol attended high school &amp; Junior College in Clarendon Texas. She
 married Fred Cary on November 1, 1968. He preceded her in death. 
She was the County Clerk in Wichita County for over 27 years. She was a
 member of the Christ Covenant Church. She enjoyed her family, being 
outside, and her pets.

Dolores Faye Depperschmidt, 87, was born to Frank and Doretta (Butler) 
Soderlund at Kanona, Kansas, on October 10, 1934. She passed away with 
her family by her side on November 20th, 2021 in Oberlin, Kansas. 
 Dolores graduated from Decatur County High School in 1954 and later 
that year she was married to Al J. Depperschmidt. Throughout their 
marriage they made their home in Dresden, Kansas. 
 Over the course of her career she worked in the food system at the 
schools of Leoville and Clayton and as a co-owner of the Dresden Thrift 
Shop. She was a part of the Daughters of Isabella group and the Altar 
Society. In her free time Dolores made quilt blocks for the Disabled 
American Veterans. She enjoyed embroider, reading, scrapbooking and 
loved watching rodeos. 
 She is survived by her sons Mark and David, daughter-in-law Carla, 
grandchildren Heather, Leia and Jason, great grandchildren Zachary, 
Olivia, Kiera, Clayton and Quinn and other family and friends. She is 
preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons and four brothers.

Martha Jane Cline, 55, passed away November 19, 2021, at Research 
Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. She was born on June 5, 1966, at 
Hoisington, to Basil &amp; Lou Ann (Brinson) Fitzpatrick. She married 
Roy Cline in Great Bend on January 26, 1990.

A lifetime Barton County resident, Martha was a 15 year 
employee/manager at Club 1 Fitness. She also had previously worked in 
the Environmental Services department at Larned State Hospital and as a 
custodian for USD 428. She was a member of CrossPoint Church of Great 
Bend, where she taught children’s church and facilitated a Bible Study. 
She enjoyed raising her kids and grandchildren, and was also known to be
 a “mom” to many other children.&nbsp; Martha especially loved to spend time 
with her family.

Survivors include, three daughters, Amber Cline and Katrina Cline, 
both of Great Bend, and Dessa Cline of Junction City; two brothers, 
Russell Hunter of Great Bend, and Buddy Fitzpatrick of Mo.; a sister, 
Debra Richardson of Tex.; two grandchildren, Lydia Miller and Katara 
Leon; her grandcat; and a large extended family. She was preceded in 
death by her parents; and a brother, David Hunter.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial 
services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 
Cross Point Church in Great Bend, with Clay Boepple presiding.

Betty Lynette Musick was born on March 25, 1942, in 
Concordia, Kansas to B. Russell Alcorn and Della La Verta (Wheeler) 
Alcorn.&nbsp; She graduated from Concordia High School.&nbsp; After one year at 
Fort Hays State University, she married Richard DeWitt.&nbsp; Three sons were
 born to this union: Steven, John, and Dennis.

Betty earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of 
Nebraska at Lincoln.&nbsp; She taught English, Sociology, and Spanish in 
Lincoln and Franklin, Nebraska and Concordia and Scandia, Kansas before 
moving to the Cloud County Clerk’s office where she served for thirty 
years, twenty-four as County Clerk.&nbsp; Betty was very active in the Kansas
 County Clerks’ and Election Officials’ Association, serving on many 
committees for various Kansas state departments and officers.&nbsp; As State 
President of the CC&amp;EOA, she was instrumental in creating the 
continuing education program for County Clerks at Wichita State 
University.

In 1988 Betty met and married the love of her life, Karl Douglas 
Musick.&nbsp; Together Betty and Doug spent many years serving Veterans 
through the VFW and Auxiliary.&nbsp; Betty retired in 2005 and the couple 
moved to Salina where Betty volunteered as a USD 305 English as a Second
 Language teacher.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.&nbsp; 
Surviving her are her husband Karl Douglas Musick; sons Steven (Barbara)
 DeWitt, Bennington, John DeWitt, Salina, and Dennis (Jennifer) DeWitt, 
Abilene; brothers Ben (Dee) Alcorn, Wichita, and Marion (Jackie) Alcorn,

Betty Lynette Musick

Alfred Henry “Fritz” Sauer, 97, died Wednesday October 27, 2021, at St. 
Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born January 7, 1924,&nbsp; in Antonino, Kansas, the son of Anton George and Pauline (Rupp) Sauer. 
Fritz grew up on the family farm near Antonino, Kansas until his 
enlistment into the US Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served in WWII 
and upon his honorable discharge he worked in the shipyards of Alabama 
for a short time. He moved to Garden City and worked with his brother in
 construction before starting his own company (Fritz Sauer 
Construction). It was here that he met his future wife of 70 years. 
Fritz and Carolyn were married August 2, 1949, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. 
Fritz built many custom homes, schools, storefronts, and prominent 
structures in Garden CIty and Southwest Kansas. Later in his career he 
had the privilege of working for Winger Cattle Company in Johnson, 
Kansas until his retirement. He was well known for his perfection, work 
ethic, values, and integrity. Fritz enjoyed hunting, fishing, and 
spending time with his family and friends. 
Survivors include two daughters Patty Carr of Waco, Texas and Deb Foltz 
of Garden City, Kansas; four grandchildren, and thirteen 
great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife- 
Carolyn (Goodin) Sauer, brothers- IA Sauer, and Joe Sauer, and 
sisters-Irene Leiker, Katie Dodson, and Albertine Stewart. 
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Monday November 29, 2021, at

He was a farmer and spent his lifetime in the Vincent and Victoria Kansas area.&nbsp; He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Vincent, Kansas and the Victoria Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree.&nbsp; He moved to St. John’s Health Care Center, Victoria, Kansas in 2005, then to St. John’s of Hays Care Center, then to Via Christi Village Care Center in Hays, Kansas.

Survivors include two brothers, Eugene Kippes, Hays, KS; Lloyd Kippes and wife, Benita, Edmond, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roy Kippes; two sisters, Pauline “Pearl” Leiker and Rita Pfeifer.

Joyce Ann (Fullerton) McElroy, the daughter of William 
and Ruby (Hancock) Fullerton, was born on January 4, 1942, in Montrose, 
Kansas. She passed away on November 21, 2021, at the Bob Wilson 
Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas, at the age of 79. 
Joyce grew up in a very large family of 17 siblings and was a graduate 
of Montrose High School, class of 1960. She then moved to San Rafael, 
California, and married Roger McElroy. 
After their first son Curtis Eugene was born, she didn’t think that 
California was a place to raise children so they moved back to Randall, 
Kansas, to be near family. One year later, Gregory Allen was born and 
then they headed west to Menlo, Kansas, just in time for their oldest 
son to start pre-school in Colby. Both boys attended a few years of 
elementary school in Rexford, Kansas. Adding two girls to the family, 
Gina Susanne and Kimi Lynn were born. In 1971, they moved to Johnson, 
Kansas, where they raised their children. Joyce had the ability to find
 ways to keep her children busy and learn how to make money. At a young
 age, they delivered the Garden City and Dodge City newspaper, sold 
seeds, had a fireworks stand and many other endeavors. As everyone left
 home to pursue life, she enjoyed taking her oldest grandkids to 
Colorado and Silver Dollar City when she was able. 
Joyce was most known for her clothing store, RJ Western Wear that she 
owned for many years. She enjoyed the craft of stamping names on 
leather western belts and visiting with all of her customers. Throughout
 her lifetime she was an EMT and Nurse’s Aide for Stanton County, a Girl
 Scout leader, a supervisor for 17 years at Grant County Feeders, a 
meter reader for Pioneer Electric, and a rural route postal carrier 
until four years ago when she moved to Ulysses, Kansas, where she 
resided until her final day. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ruby; brothers, 
Roy, Donald, LaVern, and Dean; sisters, Bernice and Neva; and four 
infant brothers and one infant sister. 
Survivors include her children; Curtis McElroy of Tulsa, OK, Greg

Robert “Bob” Waugh, 89, of Goodland, KS, passed away November 15, at 
his home following a life well lived. He was born in Emporia, KS, and 
grew up on his family farm in Olivet, KS. He attended country schools 
until high school where he excelled at athletics and catching the girl. 
He met Margaret when her mother came to teach at Olivet High School, and
 they were together until her passing in 2009.&nbsp; Bob and Margaret married
 on March 22, 1952.&nbsp; Seven children were born to the couple: Cathy 
Manhattan, KS; Bob (dec); Tom (Wendy) Ocean Shores, WA; Marcia Honer 
(Ron dec) Missouri City, TX; Lynn (Richard Fogg) Manhattan, KS; Mike 
(Monica) Spearfish, SD; Scott (Trischa), Goodland, KS. &nbsp;

Early in his life he farmed and worked at Globe Union in Emporia, KS 
until its closing, and then began studying at Emporia State University 
where he earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science in Education 
degrees. &nbsp;During this time Bob and Margaret moved to Reading, KS, where 
he was self-employed as a farmer and “the best TV Repair guy” in the 
region. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree in 1966 the family moved 
to Goodland, KS, where he was an excellent educator at what is now 
Northwest Kansas Technical College. He was also the teacher/coordinator 
of the DECA program at Goodland High School. He taught business 
education at the Goodland “Vo-Tech” for more than 30 years and retired 
in 1995.

Shortly after moving to Goodland, Bob and Margaret purchased a travel
 trailer and they were off on adventures! Over the years the family 
explored the western states; upon retirement Bob and Margaret enjoyed 
traveling across the country visiting national parks, presidential and 
other museums, as well as visiting friends and relatives all over the 
US. For hobbies, Bob loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting, reading, and
 spending time with family and friends.

Bob could fix almost anything from minor machine repairs to household
 repairs, and also “fixed” people who needed special attention. He was 
kind and generous to all, and while he might give someone a hard time, 
he would always come through.&nbsp;

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one son Bob, his beloved 
wife Margaret, son in law Ron, his sister Carol Bradshaw, brother-in-law
 Paul Michael, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Bob is survived by one sister Louise Michael, brother-in-law Richard 
Bradshaw, six of his children, ten grandchildren: Kari, Brad, Karina, 
Matt, Nick, Benjamin, Dayelle, Trace, Bryan, and Charles and seven 
grandchildren Hunter, Tatum, Kinzlee, Ellie, Calvin, Greyson, Bennett, 
and Kennedy (arriving early 2022),&nbsp;and numerous nieces, nephews, and 
cousins.

until its closing, and then began studying at Emporia State University 
where he earned both his Bachelor and Master of Science in Education 
degrees. &nbsp;During this time Bob and Margaret moved to Reading, KS, where 
he was self-employed as a farmer and “the best TV Repair guy” in the 
region. Upon completing his bachelor’s degree in 1966 the family moved 
to Goodland, KS, where he was an excellent educator at what is now 
Northwest Kansas Technical College. He was also the teacher/coordinator 
of the DECA program at Goodland High School. He taught business 
education at the Goodland “Vo-Tech” for more than 30 years and retired 
in 1995.Shortly after moving to Goodland, Bob and Margaret purchased a travel
 trailer and they were off on adventures! Over the years the family 
explored the western states; upon retirement Bob and Margaret enjoyed 
traveling across the country visiting national parks, presidential and 
other museums, as well as visiting friends and relatives all over the 
US. For hobbies, Bob loved hunting, fishing, trap shooting, reading, and
 spending time with family and friends.Bob could fix almost anything from minor machine repairs to household
 repairs, and also “fixed” people who needed special attention. He was 
kind and generous to all, and while he might give someone a hard time, 
he would always come through.&nbsp;Bob was preceded in death by his parents, one son Bob, his beloved 
wife Margaret, son in law Ron, his sister Carol Bradshaw, brother-in-law
 Paul Michael, and numerous other relatives and friends.Bob is survived by one sister Louise Michael, brother-in-law Richard 
Bradshaw, six of his children, ten grandchildren: Kari, Brad, Karina, 
Matt, Nick, Benjamin, Dayelle, Trace, Bryan, and Charles and seven 
grandchildren Hunter, Tatum, Kinzlee, Ellie, Calvin, Greyson, Bennett, 
and Kennedy (arriving early 2022),&nbsp;and numerous nieces, nephews, and

Robert 'Bob' Waugh

After a brief hospital stay, Bill Claussen quietly passed away the evening of November 19th, 2021.

William “Bill” Frederick Claussen was born July 14th, 
1940, in Spearville, KS, to Victor and Florence (Stein) Claussen. Bill 
grew up South of town with his siblings, Darrel, Corrine, and Richard. 
Bill often regaled us with the tale of a big, ol’ mean rooster who would
 chase the kids around, refusing to let them gather the eggs. Until one 
day when he went after it with a baseball bat! After that, the rooster 
left them alone to gather eggs in peace.

Bill married Ann on July 14th, 1962. He never had to worry
 about remembering their anniversary since it was his birthday! They 
lived on the farm where they farmed and ranched for nearly 59 years. Ann
 preceded Bill in death earlier this summer on July 8th, 
2021. During their life together they raised three children: Tonya, 
Doug, and Curt. Bill loved fishing and made many memories with his 
family fishing in the creek, at Cedar Bluff lake- where he also taught 
the kids to water ski, and during the yearly trips to Buena Vista, 
Colorado to trout fish.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Florence 
Claussen, his brothers Darrel and Richard Claussen, his sister Corrine 
(Claussen) Eaton, and his wife Annette (Zurbuchen) Claussen. He is 
survived his children Tonya Claussen Wyles, her husband Jack and their 
children Sammi and Kola of Buena Vista, CO; Doug Claussen, his wife 
Rachel and their children Gavin, Zach, Brooke, Luke, and Will, of 
DeSoto, KS; Curt Claussen and his son Cash of Kansas City, MO; and his 
brothers-in-law, John Zurbuchen of Spearville, KS and Arlen Eaton of 
Dodge City, KS, and sister-in-law Kathy Claussen of Colorado Springs, 
CO.

Bill was a strong man who lived a quiet life. He often said that he 
felt the presence of God in nature, not church. He loved to watch the 
crops grow and made lots of trips around the sections to see them.&nbsp; He 
marveled at the beauty of the new wheat sprouts early in the morning as 
the rising sun sparkled in the dew. If you find yourself reflecting 
about Bill, take a walk in the country, go on a mountain hike to find 
the perfect trout stream. Feel the breeze, the sun, and the gentle 
rains. Soak in the smells and enjoy the sounds. Walk in a field, grab a 
handful of the fertile soil, and breath in the scent. At night if you 
look to the sky, you’ll see the lights of heaven shining through the 
stars. That is where Bill felt closest to God, and where we can feel 
closest to him as we remember all the good times and the love he gave us
 all.

Every farmer puts his land to rest for the winter. On springs horizon
 it is brought back to life. God has put this farmer to rest, and with a
 spring in his step, Ann in hand, he walks the horizon to a new life.

Vigil service will be at 7:00 pm Monday, November 29, 2021 at St. 
John the Baptist Church, Spearville.&nbsp; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am 
Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the church with Fr. John Forkuoh 
presiding.&nbsp; Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Spearville.&nbsp; 
Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral 
Chapel, Dodge City.

Glendora G. Schmidt was born on July 19, 1927, to Dan and Dauvina 
Schmidt, Pawnee Rock, Ks. She died at home at the age of 94. She married
 Gene Schmidt on August 25, 1948.

Surviving are Becky (Jim) Cram, Salina, Ks., Rodney (Patty) Schmidt, 
Larned, Ks., John Schmidt, Pawnee Rock, Ks., Karl (Emily) Schmidt, 
Overland Park, Ks., Janet (Randy) Naus, Calhoun, Ga.; brother and 
sister-in-law: Jerry and Toni Schmidt, Harvard, Ne; 11 grandchildren: 
Marc Cram, Sara Schebo, Seth Schmidt, Shea Lopez, Somer Talkington, 
Jessica Schmidt, Nathan Schmidt, Allison Nicholson, Rachel Auten, 
Madison Naus, Taylor Naus and 4 great grandchildren: Kass Brennakate 
Fynch, Rowen and Lenna Nicholson, Owen Meade and Maris Auten and 
numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband, her parents, a sister, Norma

Glennie graduated from Pawnee Rock High School and worked at Dillions
 in Larned before becoming a farm wife and mother. She was active in her
 children’s activities, especially 4-H. As the children grew older, she 
worked for the 1st National Bank Larned as a teller and later
 for Carr Auction. She also loved caring for her grandchildren. An avid 
reader, Glennie had many friends and loved talking to them especially to
 share a good joke or story. She was a woman of strong faith and 
belonged to the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

A visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, November 26, 2021,&nbsp; at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00
 p.m.

Lynette Dea Gallentine, 55, passed away November 19, 2021, at OU 
Health - University Of Oklahoma Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla.&nbsp; 
She was born October 25, 1966, in Great Bend, to Carl and Dolores 
(Bauer) Maddy.&nbsp; Lynette married Jerry Gallentine June 30, 2018, in 
Oberlin.

Lynette, a resident of Clayton since 2018 coming from Barton County, 
was a long time devoted nurse. She had recently worked at Logan Manor, 
Logan, previously working at Diversicare, Larned, Clara Barton Hospital,
 Hoisington, and The Children's Clinic, CKMC, and Great Bend Health and 
Rehabilitation, all of Great Bend. She enjoyed Mickey Mouse collectibles
 and decorating, but especially cherished her time with family and her 
wiener dog Gretta.

Survivors include her husband Jerry of the home; parents, Carl and 
Dolores Maddy of Logan; one son, Gannon Radenberg and his companion 
Brooke Oleson of Lenexa; one daughter, Taryn Mitchell and husband Jack 
of Great Bend; one granddaughter, Emersyn Mitchell; two brothers, Steven
 Maddy and wife Clairissa of Wichita, and Mike Maddy of Larned; one 
sister, Terri Kennard of Wichita; step son, Stephen Gallentine of

Wilma Ross, 87, Hays, died Saturday, November 20, 2021, at her home.

She was born November 21, 1933, in 
La Crosse, the daughter of William and Philomena “Minnie” (Kuhn) 
Schafer.&nbsp; Wilma attended grade school in La Crosse, was a graduate of 
La Crosse High School, and she graduated from nurses training at St. 
Anthony School of Nursing in Hays.&nbsp; She played an important role in her 
family when she took charge of caring for her siblings after their 
father died at a young age and her mother worked outside the home.&nbsp; As a
 nurse, her desire was to take care of people in a humble, caring manner
 and seeing them get well.&nbsp; She worked for 35 years as a nurse manager 
on the surgical floor at Hays Medical Center as well as at other 
hospitals.&nbsp; She then worked at the Orthopedic Office for five years.&nbsp; On
 February 11, 1956, she was united in marriage to Alan Ross at St. 
Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hays.&nbsp; They celebrated 55 years of marriage 
before he preceded her in death on December 22, 2011.&nbsp; She was a member 
of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and enjoyed playing 
Pinochle, casino trips, buying shoes, traveling with her husband Alan 
while he was a tour and activity bus driver, exercising at the Rec 
Center, and watching FHSU and TMP-Marian athletics.

Survivors include her son: Brian Ross 
and wife Peggy of Liebenthal, a grandson: Mark Ross of Houston, TX, a 
sister: Donna Schmidtberger and husband Dan of Hill City, and numerous 
nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her 
parents, husband: Alan, a son: Mark Ross, two brothers: Jim and Bill 
Schafer, a sister: Sylvia Rohr, and her sweet lovable puppy: Sammie.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 
10:00 am on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Immaculate Heart of Mary 
Catholic Church, with Fr. Nick Parker officiating.&nbsp; Burial will follow 
in St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp; Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on 
Friday and from 9:00 am until 9:45 on Saturday, all at Hays Memorial 
Chapel Funeral Home.&nbsp; A vigil service and rosary will be at 6:30 pm on
