Patricia A. 'Pat' Weigel

Patricia A. “Pat” Weigel, 89, Hays, died Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Ellis Good Samaritan Society.

She was born January 16, 1933, in Salina, the daughter of Walter Joseph and Ruth (Platt) Eitel.  IN 1951, she graduated from Salina High School.  She was united in marriage to Roland Dean Hammett in 1952 in Salina, and they celebrated 15 years of marriage before he died in 1967.  On May 19, 1989, she was united in marriage to Virgel Lee Weigel in Hays, and they celebrated 32 years of marriage.  She was a wonderful mother, homemaker, loved Russell Stover Chocolates, had a special love for the daycare children where she worked.  Pat was a member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.  She was a baseball, softball, and volleyball fan, often attending her grandchildren’s games.  She enjoyed baking and made delicious chocolate pies, hot fudge, and beautifully decorated cakes.  Pat had a deep faith and love for her family and loved her dogs Bailey and Sadie.

Survivors include her husband Virgel of Hays, two sons: Douglas Hammett and wife Beverly of South Africa and Ronald Hammett and wife Stacey of Allentown, PA, three daughters: Rhonda Larscheid and husband Donald of Topeka, Kristi Carson and husband Tim of Topeka, and Susan Hammett of Hays, a stepdaughter: Becky Woodard and husband Paul of Arlington, TX, 18 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roland, two brothers: Walter and Howard Eitel, one sister: Betty Dunbar, and a stepdaughter: Brenda Gabel.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, with Fr. Damian Richards officiating.  Inurnment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time at the funeral home.
